Floating Debris Is From Missing Air Asia Jet - Or Is It

As a wave of comment on internet news suites about the similarities between the disappearance of an AirAsia Airbus, flight QZ8501 on a routine trip from Jave to singapore and the equally inexplicable disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the same area en route from Kuala Lumpur nine months ago, it was quite predictable that while there remains no trace of MH370, this time floating debris and bodies have been found at the alleged crasah site.

For reasons of sensitivity new organisations are quite properly not publishing images of the bodies, however images of the 'floating debris' from the wrecked plane have been widely circulated. Problem is, what is shown does not look like wreckage from an aircraft, it looks like junk that could have come from any of the small, overloaded boats of dubious seaworthyness that sinks in the waters of the Java Sea while carrying refugees / asylum seekers / impoverished migrats in search of a new life.

Given the strangeness of the circumstances surrounding the aircraft's disappeance (a large, modern airliner of a type with an excellent safety record simply disappeared off radar with no trace), bloggers like Boggart Blog were entirely justified in asking during the 72 hours between the loss being reported and news of the debris, WTF was going on.

Now the story that is supposed to quell rumour and gossip is actually raising more questions. And then there's this:

AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes dumped 944,800 shares in Tune Insurance Holdings Bhd, the organization that provides travel insurance for AirAsia passengers, just days before the disappearance of Flight QZ8501.

On December 26, the Malaysian Insider reported that Fernandes, the founder of Tune Group Sdn Bhd which owns AirAsia, had sold a total of 944,800 shares in Tune Insurance Holdings Bhd, with 850,000 shares being dumped on December 22, and the other 94,800 being sold the day after.

According to its official website, Tune Insurance Holdings Bhd is “an insurance product manager” for AirAsia in which “insurance products are sold to (AirAsia) customers as part of their online booking process.”

The share prices of AirAsia and Tune Insurance Holdings both fell on the first day of trading after the disappearance of Flight QZ8501, with the former shedding 12.9 percent at one point. Tune Insurance Holdings lost 0.6%.

Fernandes decision to dump the shares less than a week before AirAsia Flight QZ8501 disappeared over the Java Sea prompted some to speculate that he may have had prior knowledge of the incident.

“Did Fernandes know his company stock was about to take a hit? The timing is suspicious,” asks Heavy.com, adding, “If so, it indicates knowledge of an impending attack on AirAsia.”

The International Business Times adds that the move has prompted many to voice the theory that Fernandes, “possibly knew about an impending attack on one of the company’s aircraft.”

The story bears some similarity to the unusual market activity in airline stocks that preceded the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. An “extraordinary” amount of ‘put options’ – speculation that a stock price will fall – were placed on United and American Airlines in the days leading up to 9/11.

We can only speculate as to the reasons Mr. Fernandez sold a big portion of his holding in Air Asia and the timing of the same, and at this stage one opinion is no better than another. What we do know is that the sell off happened, that much is a matter of public record as required by stock exchanges around the world. Given the timing of the sale, to suggest it is pure coincidence is stretching our credulity a little too far.

Other sources are saying the accident may have been due to a pilot / air traffic control worthy of amateurs. The pilot however was a vastly experienced flyer who knew the area and understood the conditions.

The plane’s pilot then asked to increase altitude from 32,000 to 38,000 feet due to the weather conditions, but the request was denied because there were six other planes in the vicinity. The pilots were instead approved to increase their altitude to 34,000 feet. Within three minutes, the plane had disappeared from radar contact entirely.

Unconfirmed secondary radar data of the plane’s flight reportedly show the plane was climbing toward 36,000 feet, at a speed of 353 knots, or approximately 650 kilometres per hour. Geoffrey Thomas, a Sydney-based aviation expert, said that, if true, this would be below the minimum safe speed for this altitude.

“The QZ8501 was flying too slow, about 100 knots [160 kilometres per hour]... too slow,” he told the British Daily Mail. “Essentially the plane is flying too slow for the altitude and the thin air, and the wings won’t support it at that speed and you get a stall, an aerodynamic stall.”

According to the newspaper, aviation experts have suggested that a build-up of ice on airspeed sensors, known as pitot tubes, might have given the pilots an incorrect speed measurement. False speed measurement due to icing is known to have contributed to the crash of Air France Flight AF447 on June 1, 2009 over the South Atlantic Ocean. The plane’s pilots were known to be manoeuvring to avoid storm clouds.

Thomas also said that the Airbus 320 is not equipped with the latest radar system for measuring storms and this may have led the pilots to misjudge the storm’s severity

Missing Aircraft: Does This Ring Any Bells

Another airliner carrying a large number of civilian passengers has gone missing in the area between Indonesia and Malaysia. Here is what is known so far from the news feeds. As you read it, make a not of how far you get before the bells start ringing.

As yet we know nothing for sure and there may indeed be nothing strange about this disappearance. But the number of similiarities with the ill fated Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 flight MH370 are remarkable to say the least.

For those who missed the coverage, here is what is known so far.

Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ8501, an Airbus 320-200 carrying 155 passengers and seven crew, lost contact with Jakarta air traffic control at 6:17 a.m. (2317 GMT on Saturday). No distress signal had been sent, said Joko Muryo Atmodjo, an Indonesian transport ministry official.

On board were 155 Indonesians, three South Koreans and one each from Singapore, Malaysia and Britain, plus a French pilot, the airline said in a statement, correcting earlier information. Tatang Kurniadi, head of Indonesia's National Committee of Safety Transportation, expressed hope of locating the aircraft quickly and said it was too early to detect any of the so-called electronic pings from its black box recorder.

"We are using our capacity to search on sea and land. Hopefully we can find the location of the plane as soon as possible," he told a news conference."What I need to emphasize is until now, we have not found out how the plane fell or what kind of emergency it was."

Indonesia AirAsia is 49 percent owned by Malaysia-based budget carrier AirAsia (AIRA.KL), which has had a clean safety record since it began operating 13 years ago. The AirAsia group also has affiliates in Thailand, the Philippines and India. The aircraft had accumulated approximately 23,000 flight hours in some 13,600 flights, according to Airbus (AIR.PA).

The pilots of QZ8501 "was requesting deviation due to en-route weather before communication with the aircraft was lost," the airline said in a statement. Singapore, Malaysia, Britain, South Korea and Australia offered to help in the search and any investigation. Malaysia said it was sending vessels and a C130 aircraft while Singapore had also sent a C130. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said a P3 Orion aircraft was on standby if needed.

Influential Germans Appeal Against Another War In Europe

While the establishment friendly mainstream media has been obsessing about the collapse in oil prices and celebrating, somewhat prematurely we fear, the demise of Vladimir Putin's regime in Russia, while the more fanciful economic pundits have been burbling about the latest round of all time high stock markets (take it from me these are down to low volumes of stocks and shares being traded, algorithm manipulation by the geeks and companies buying in their own stock because the more of its own stock a company holds the less shareholder scrutiny it can be subjected to), a group of prominent Germans involved in politics, economics, culture and the media were less concerned mainstream sensationalism and crowing about how Obama had crushed Putin (he hasn't and the Germans know that) than by something that poses a much bigger threat to the immeditate future of Europe: the threat of the Obama administration pushing us into a war with Russia.
In an open letter published in Germany's Die Zeit (German language web page), numerous famous and respected Germans including a former president and former prime minister write "Wieder Krieg in Europa? Nicht in unserem Namen!", or, roughly translated, "War in Europe Again? Not in Our Names!" An English translation of some of the letter can be found here (.pdf format). The instigators of the appeal were Horst Teltschik (CDU political party), advisor to then-Chancellor Helmut Kohl at the time German of reunification; Walther Stützle (SPD political party), former Secretary of State for the Ministry of Defense; and Antje Vollmer (Green Party), former Bundestag Vice President. Teltschik said the aim of the initiative is to give a political signal that the justified criticism of Russia’s Ukraine policy should not wipe out all the progress that we have made in the past 25 years in relations with Russia.” Below is an excerpt of the original letter.

"Nobody wants war. But North America, the European Union, and Russia are inevitably driving towards war if they do not finally halt the disastrous spiral of threats and counter-threats. All Europeans, including Russia, are jointly responsible for peace and security. Only those who do not lose sight of this goal can avoid fatal actions.

The Ukraine conflict shows that the quest for power and domination has not been overcome. In 1990, at the end of the Cold War, we all hoped that it would be. But the success of the détente policy and the peaceful revolutions allowed people to become lethargic and careless. In both East and West. The Americans, Europeans, and Russians all lost, as their guiding principle, the idea of permanently banishing war from their relationship. Otherwise it is impossible to explain either the West’s eastward expansion without simultaneously deepening cooperation with Moscow—a policy which Russia sees as a threat—or Putin’s annexation of Crimea in violation of international law.

At this moment of great danger for the continent, Germany has a special responsibility for the maintenance of peace. Without the will for reconciliation of the people of Russia, without the foresight of Mikhail Gorbachov, without the support of our Western allies, and without the prudent action by the then-Federal government, the division of Europe would not have been overcome. To allow German unification to evolve peacefully was a great gesture, shaped by the wisdom of the victorious powers. It was a decision of historic proportions.

Once the division of Europe was overcome, permanent peace and security, from Vancouver to Vladivostok, should have developed, as had been agreed by all the 35 heads of state and government of the OSCE member states in November 1990, in the “Charter of Paris for a New Europe.”. . . This goal of postwar policy has not been achieved to this day. People in Europe are forced to live in fear once again.

We, the undersigned, appeal to the Federal Government of Germany to assume its responsibility for peace in Europe. We need a new policy of détente in Europe. This is only possible on the basis of equal security for all and mutually respected partners. The German government is not pursuing a go-it-alone policy, as long as it continues to call, during this stalemate, for calm and dialogue with Russia. The need of the Russians for security is as legitimate as is that of the Germans, the Poles, the Baltic States, and the Ukrainians.

We must also not push Russia out of Europe.... Since the Congress of Vienna in 1814, Russia has been a recognized global player in Europe. All who have tried to change that have failed violently, the last being the megalomaniacal Germany of Hitler, which set out in 1941 to murderously subjugate Russia.

We call upon the members of the German Bundestag, delegated by the people as their political representatives, to deal appropriately with the seriousness of the situation. . . . Whoever is constructing a bogeyman, putting the blame on only one side, is exacerbating tensions, when the signals should be for de-escalation.

We appeal to the media, to more scrupulously adhere to their obligation to provide unbiased reporting than they have hitherto done. Editorialists and leading commentators are demonizing entire nations, without fully taking their histories into account. Any journalist experienced in foreign affairs would understand the Russians’ fear, since members of NATO in 2008 invited Georgia and Ukraine to join the Alliance. It is not about Putin. Heads of state come and go. What is at stake is Europe.

On October 3, 1990, the Day of German Reunification, Federal President Richard von Weizäcker said: “The Cold War has been overcome, and freedom and democracy will soon be in place in all countries. . . . This is a challenge. We can achieve it, but we can also fail. We are facing the clear alternative to unite Europe or fall back again into painful historical examples of nationalist conflicts in Europe.”

Until the Ukraine conflict, we here in Europe thought we were on the right track. Today, a quarter of a century later, Richard von Weizäcker’s warning is more apropos than ever."
It is necessary to understand here that a classic war of armies confronting each other is no longer possible, mutually assures destruction is still the constraining factor. The lunatic Jihadist Barack Hussein Obama may think he can make a speech that will turn aside Russian and Chinese missiles but hi generals will hold him back. It is no longer practical to talk in terms of invading, occupying and subjugation enemy nations.
The great mistake the west has made, as demonstrated by the hack on Sony Corp in December 2014, is that we have made far too much of our infrastructure and commerce dependent on a single, extremely vulnerable technology, the internet. Russia's mistake has been to allow its economy to become far too dependent on oil and gas. But don't over simplify, Western economies are economically vulnerable while Russia and China have heavy commitment to internet technology.,/p>
These then are the theatres of war that the coming battle for global dominance will be constested in. The posturing with battle fleets, ICBMs and mobile missile launchers is just traditional theatre.

Rape Horror In Swedish Muslim Ghetto

Civil unrest is becoming a regular occurrence in Stockholm's immigrant ghettos

When I worked in Sweden's capital Stockholm in the late 1990s it was one of the diminishing number of cities where a woman could go out aloner at night and feel relitavely safe. Sure there was street crime and sex crime in Sweden but not on the scale I see reported now.

Here's the latest report of a moral outrage, and like so many others it reflects on the loonytoons Open Doors immigration policy insisted upon by the nation's cross party ruling elite. These people of course live in the expensive suburbs and only look down from their ivory towers on a view of Swedish society that has been airbrushed by a liberal media.

Read this story and ask yourself is it ant surprise hardline immigration party the Sweden Democrats are on the rise in Scandinavia's largest nation just as anti - immigration parties are changing the landscape in the United Kingdom (UKIP), France (Front national) Italy (Lega Nord and Five Star movement), Austria, Denmark, Greece, Hungary and, lagging behind somewhat but catching up rapidly, Germany.

The risk of being raped in Sweden during one’s lifetime is one out of four (if every raped woman is only raped once), which is probably equal to the risk of being raped in countries in war, such as Iraq or Syria. When it comes to rapes, Islamized Sweden is already in a state of war. Sweden does not publish statistics on immigrant crime. If we want to have a hint about who is committing these tens of thousands of rapes and other types of sexual assaults yearly, we can turn to another Scandinavian country, Sweden’s neighbor Norway, the country most similar to Sweden. Here 100 percent of all attack-rapes (rapes where the attacker and the victim did not know each other beforehand) in the last five years in Oslo were committed by immigrants from “non-Western” countries. In Stavanger, a major Norwegian city, 90 percent of rapes are committed by “immigrants.”

Those statistics, from a Danish television news channel relate to a particularly horrific sexual assault that took place on 19 June near. A group of Muslim men gang-raped the girl while one, who has not been identified, put a gun to her face and threatened to kill her if she did not stop screaming.

When they had finished raping the girl, the gunman pressed the barrel of the weapon into her vagina, causing damage and heavy bleeding. Two of the men then drove the girl to a basement room in Rinkeby where they gang-raped her again.

The following morning the victim escaped from the basement and was found by her father who had been looking for her.

He found her sitting on a lawn, in a state of shock, crying and in panic with bloodied clothes. He told police she seemed scared as hunted prey and just wanted to get away,” the court judgment in the case reads.

The victim was so traumatized by the incident and afraid the perpetrators might attack her again, she has been forced to move to sheltered accommodation.

The District Court of Solna (a working class suburb Stockholm suburb with a large immigrant population) sentenced a number of immigrant men to serve prison sentences for the aggravated rape. One of them, a 21-year-old, was sentenced to five years in prison, while a 19-year-old gets two and a half years in prison. A 18-year-old was sentenced to youth custody for a year and four months since he was under 18 when the crime was committed.

It is, is it not, amazing that only a week before this article was posted, we were reporting the Sweden's social democrat Prime Minister attacking as racists those who criticize his immigration policy of welcoming any murderers, rapists, thieves, extortionists, human traffickers, muggers, drug pushers and general bastards to evade justice in their own nations and go so Sweden (where the intellectual left it seems will grants them licence to brutalise, exploit and steal from working class Swedish people so long as they promise never to commit crimes against the elite.

Was Sony Cyber Attack A Virtual False Flag

There's something smelly about the latest news story from America's war on peace. Was the North Korean cyber attack that caused the release of a movie widely rumoured to be a total lemon to be cancelled all that the US mainstream media presented it as.

The first thing that struck me was whether a backward country like North Korea had the capacity to launch such an attack. So I looked at this brilliant animated map on ip Viking, showing in real time active cyber attacks all around the world.

(great animated map but you need a powerful computer if you want the mobile graphic map to load quickly, otherwise a bit of patience is needed.) The first thing that struck me was that no attacks were coming from North Korea (as one would expect from a country whose telecommunications system relies on the medium of wet string stretched between empty tin cans).

That was before the weekend. My view was backed up today when the Anonymous group of hackers stated that North Korea was not, indeed could not have been responsible for the attack (although they may have paid western hackers to do it for them ;) Hacking collective Anonymous says FBI is lying over N.Korea attack on Sony.

Long before the FBI made it official, North Korean blame for the attack against Sony was taken as a given. Even if the best reason to credit Kim Jong-Un’s goons was because it just sort of feels right and Hey, that movie is about North Korea, most people following the story—both in and out of the media—ran with the story. It happens to be a very politically convenient story, featuring the world’s favorite cartoon henchman at the lead.

But independent, skeptical security experts have been poking holes in this theory for days now. Evidence provided by the FBI last week in an official accusation against the North Korean government was really more of a reference to evidence—all we got were bullet points, most of them rehashing earlier clues. It still doesn’t seem like enough to definitively pin the attacks to North Korea.

Take away the wreckage and the bodies and the alleged cyberattack waged by North Korea on the USA and Sony Corp in retaliation for Sony's new movie launch, Interview, a story about an inept chat show host being dispatched by The Pentagon to PyongYang on a mission to assassinate North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim, and the whole episode starts to resemble the saga of Flight MH17. Consider:

MH17:
USA engineers a coup d'etat in Ukraine then realises it has put a bunch of neo Nazi thugs in charge of a strategically important country.

Embarrassed by the extremism of its puppet government in Kiev and Ukraine's failure to deal with pro Russian separatists, the USA looks for an excuse for direct military intervention in Ukraine.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 is shot down while overflying Ukranian conflict zone. USA President Barack Obama claims to have irrefutable evidence Pro - Russian separatists and Moscow are responsible but fails to produce any evidence.

Russia produces loads of evidence pointing to the Kiev government being responsible for the atrocity.

Numerous eyewitnesses and technical experts come forward to state that the Ukrainian military were responsible. America goes back to arming and funding Kiev thugs as they conduct a genocide campaign against ethnic Russians in Ukraine.

Interview:
Sony makes a shite film about an alleged terrorist state that regularly threatens to launch nuclear attacks against the USA but in reality has trouble launching a campaign to feed its people.

Sony communications networks are hacked, forcing the entertainment corporation to cancel the release of Interview. Barack Obama claims to have irrefutable evidence that North Korea was responsible for the attack but fails to produce any evidence.

China produces evidence suggesting the attack did not come from North Korea while Guardians of Peace Hacking group claim they carried out the cyber attack from within the USA.

Notice a pattern here? You will when you remember a very similar sequence of events unfolded over the ISIS takeover of north west Iraq, the Syria poison gas incident, the overthrow of Gadaffi in Libya and so on all the way back to the non existent Weapons Of Mass Destruction that were used by G Dubya Bush and A C L Blair to justify the invasion of Iraq and overthrow of Saddam Hussein (another American excercise in Imperialism that turned into shite.)

We are at war, dear reader, but not with foreigners. We the punters are under attack from our own governments, the useful idiots who support them and the global elite who pull their strings.

China Stumps Up To Help Beleagured Russian Economy

As predicted in The Daily Stirrer Currency Wars page, China was never going to stand aside and let the American and Arabs governments trash the economy of its ally Russia. We knew this because several of our writers, chiefly economics expert Phil T Looker (yes that name is a pun, Ken does not wish to publish his real name on the web for professional reasons) has contributed on the orchestrated attempt by Russia, China and Iran to see the US dollar replaced as the global reserve currency (the petrodollar).
In fact Phil. predicted last week that what we were seeing is a currency war because all parties know a shooting war between the major military powers would be far too destructive. now, as usual, Phil is proved correct as we learn that China is preparing to bail out Russia, after its oil - reliant economy was hit last week by the collapsing price of crude.
Russia is not only an of China but a major trading partner and the other major force behind the BRICS economic bloc (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and a strategic partner in the political chess game aimed at achieving geo-political dominance. The USA has long fancied being the global hegemon, as economically dominant on a world scale as The Roman Empire was around the Mediterranean region two thousand years ago.
The Americans looked to be in the stronger position but as usual overplayed their hand. It should have been obvious to Washington strategists that China would support the Russians as the USA tried to inflict economic damage in retaliation for Moscow's support of Assad in Syria and Putin's obduracy in refusing to yield Ukraine to NATO and the EU after Washington had engineered the coup that overthrew the elected government.
Bloomberg reported that during Vladimir Putin's recent visit to the far east, two senior Chinese government officials offered support for Russia in its efforts to defend the the rouble without depleting foreign-exchange reserves. China pledged to provide help if needed and remains confident Russia will overcome its economic problems, Foreign Minister Wang Yi was quoted as saying in a Dec. 20 report by Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV.
“Many Chinese people still view Russia as the big brother, and the two countries are strategically important to each other,” said Jin Canrong, Associate Dean of the School of International Studies at Renmin University in Beijing, referring to the Soviet Union’s backing of Communist China in its first years. “For the sake of national interests, China should deepen cooperation with Russia when such cooperation is in need.”
In fact as was reported in another part of our internet cloud, the Russian economy is in far better shape than the USA which has only staved off economic collapse over the last few years by massive borrowing which now gives it an almost unsupportable debt burden. It is only the fact that the USA holds the global reserve currency that now keeps its economy afloat. Russia on the other hand has very little sovereign debt (see link above "China would support the Russians) and holds substantial gold and dollar reserves which could prop up its currency in the short term. With China offering support in terms of trade (that excludes using the dollar) it appears that the mainstream media's crowing about the demise of Russia has deafened us to the 31% surge in the value of the Ruble in the last few days.

A Third Of Italian Voters Are Ready To Back Anti-immigrant Party

Southern Italy; beautiful but economically backward.

More than one a of Italians - including many in the insular and deeply conservative south - will consider voting for the anti-EU, anti-immigration Northern League, a poll showed on Sunday (21 December, 2014). The rapid rise of Lega Nord in Italian politics mirrors the success of other parties such as UKIP in the UK, Frances Front National, Denmark's danish peoples' Party, The Sweden Democrats and Germany's AFD. Elsewhere long established right and wing nationalist parties are enjoying a resurgence as anti E U, anti - globalisation feeling grows.

Matteo Salvini, the youthful leader of the former regional party of Northern Italy, confirmed his status as the rising star of Italian politics with approval ratings of 35 percent in a Demos & Pi poll published by La Repubblica newspaper - up five per cent on November. Salvini, 41, who launched a bid to extend his party's appeal to the poorer south of the country earlier in the month, came second in the poll to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, 39, who it said has the confidence of exactly half of Italians.

Slavini's rise is often compared with that of France's Front National, the leader of which, Marine Le Pen has been successful in guiding the FN closer to the mainstream in a bid for power. Salvini has a more difficult task overcome Italy's much wider regional divisions however. His party was founded in response to demands that the wealthier north, which he calls "Padania", be allowed to break away and become an independent state outside the EU.

(A regular critic of my anti - EU stance commented recently that when he visits Europe 'everybody' feels Britain would be foolish to try to leave and no other country has a significant political force in favour of quitting. This person loves to talk about the fact that he 'works in a university', so it is entirely understandable that he is totally out of touch with reality. Only the politicians, public servants and others who eat our taxes claim there is no support for breaking up the EU because they are scared that if one nation leaves the whole gravy train on which they ride will be derailed.)

The Lega Nord has traditionally held the portion of Italy south of Tuscany in contempt. Polls now seem to indicate the political centre of gravity shifting south on the back of Salvini's popularity. In fact, 19 percent of voters in the centre of the country said they would vote for it - one per cent higher than in its northern heartlands - with seven percent of southerners saying they would support it.

Italy has seen an unprecedented surge of immigrants this year, with more than 150,000 rescued from rickety boats attempting to reach its southern shores from north Africa. The burden of treating so many illegal immigrants humanely and payng them benefits according to E U rules is crippling Italy's already weak economy and fuelling both anti - immigration and anti - E U feeling.

We are accustomed in our libertarian blogs, The Daily Stirrer and Boggart Blog, to mentioning the Five Star Movement led by Beppe Grillo whenever the topic of anti E U feeling in Italian politics is in the news. This is perhaps unfair to Italy's oldest anti EU party, Lega Nord, (The Northern League,) led by the rising star of the Italian right Matteo Salvini.

While it is probably unfair to describe Lega Nord as 'right wing' (they are Libertarian) the party is a strong opponent of the cultural Marxism of European and American consensus politics.

One of the Norther Leagues problems is that since its founder, Umberto Bossi, always pursued a separatist agenda, arguing that the highly industrialised north of Italy should split from the economically agrarian and politically conservative south, the party was seen as a regional political force only. Now however, The Northern League has launched a political campaign aimed at winning support in the southern regions, with a view to eventually forming a national government.

Though previous designs on making the regional party a nationwide force have failed, the party is gambling on Salvini's popularity, his anti-immigration, anti-EU stance and the growing feeling that further integration of EU member states being demanded by Brussels threatens national sovereignty and cultural identity, to turn them into a national force.

"We will make it into power. I don't know when, but we will get there," Salvini told reporters at a press conference launching the campaign..

Party leaders said membership in the new effort is open to any Italian not already in office, though politicians' bids to join the movement will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Salvini said it is an attempt to avoid "recycling" certain politicians who may be hoping to take advantage of the party's momentum, which is being spurred by his steadily growing popularity. (Now who do we think he could be referring to? Signor Berlusconi perchance?)

A recent poll ranked Salvini just behind Prime Minister Matteo Renzo on Italians' list of favourite political leaders. His rise has been compared to Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Front in France.
Salvini is a fan of Le Pen, who has softened the hard-right image of her party and broadened its appeal as voters across Europe have turned to populist parties in a backlash against the Brussels bureaucracy and the economic gloom engulfing much of the euro zone.

Immigration Problem Moves Swedish Politics To The Right

One of the reasons I started to use this blog more after it had lain virtually untouched for years (amassing only about 3000 page views in six years) was that I wanted to brink a more international flavour to my family of blogs and web pages. I was driven towards this course by the attitude among people who call themselves 'liberal and 'progressive' that only one set of beliefs and values is socially acceptable. This Pensée Unique (to give the blog a foreign flavour) embraces several principles which its supporters (most of whom claim they are atheists) cling to with the fervour of religious zealots. One of these is that all immigration is good. To hear Pensée Unique fanatics in the anglosphere screeching when this dogma is challenged one might think the UK and USA are the only nations where government sponsored mass immigration by people who have no intention of integrating socially or culturally is seen as a problem by significant numbers of ordinary citizens.

Sweden's Christian Democrats: Cut refugee benefits.

In response perhaps to the rising popularity of Sweden's new, right of centre political party, the Sweden Democrats who anti - immigration stance is striking a chord with many ordinary, working class Swedes who feel their country is being given away to foreigners by an unrepresentative 'liberal elite' that control national politics, the well established Christian Democrat party has shocked academics and media luvvies by moving sharply against immigration as the country approaches a General Election in March.

The Christian Democrats have announced proposals to reduce the cost of the asylum process in Sweden, arguing that cuts are necessary to maintain "the legitimacy" of the system.

"I am tired of the fact that all discussions [of immigration] start and end with the SwedenDemocrats," Christian Democrat leader Göran Hägglund said on Thursday.

The Christian Democrat's proposals include reducing the level of benefits paid to refugees seeking asylum in the country and the introduction of temporary residence permits.

"This is a problem with which we have not achieved sufficient success," Hägglund said referring to the high levels of unemployment among newly-arrived immigrants in comparison to people born in Sweden.

Hägglund explained that his party, which suffered heavy losses in last September's election, would like to see the changes in order to "preserve the legitimacy" of Sweden's immigration policy.

Among the proposed measures is a proposal that new immigrants be able to earn up to 100,000 kronor ($13,000) tax free per annum for their first five years in Sweden. At the same time the party proposed a reduction in introduction benefits.

While Hägglund underlined that the proposals were not a question of "closing the border", the move was welcomed by the Sweden Democrats (SD), who have proposed a dramatic reduction in immigration to Sweden.

"This paves the way for a more informed debate about immigration," acting party leader Mattias Karlsson said on Thursday.

Karlsson added that the proposal could make it easier for SD to side with the Alliance if they were to win the upcoming extra election.

The Christian Democrats, which form part of the four-party Alliance opposition, are reported to have acted alone in the matter while the Moderates and the Liberal Party have welcomed the discussion.
