Polish Leader Kaczynski Says European Union Must Change Or Disband

Press Agencies Agence france Presse (AFP) and Reuters reporting  that Jaroslaw Kaczynski leader of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, speaking in an interview published on Monday by German Newspaper Die Welt said The European Union will collapse if it fails to reform.

With EU political leaders and bureaucrats bitterly

divided over how the political crisis caused by Britain's vote to leave the EU should be dealt with and differences widening on defence, economic and immigration

After more than a half century of calls for closer integration leading eventually to the abolition on member states and the creation of a federal superstate, many commentators now fear the former free trade bloc that has increasingly become a political entity risks disinegration.

“The continent is changing rapidly and, as I see it, not for the better,” Kaczynski was quoted as saying in German newspaper Die Welt.

"The rise of populist parties across the continent, such as the Alternative for Germany, the National Front in France and anti-European parties in the Netherlands among others could cause the EU as it is to burst," he said.

“Either we reform the EU or it collapses.”

Kaczynski’s Law and Justice party is a nationalistic , and has divided opinion with its movement that shook EU federalists when it completely ousted the previous pro - EU conservative government from Poland's parliament at the last election. Like all anti - EU, pro - national - sovereignty parties it is often described at extreme right wing by its critics although it is in no way authoritarian, has a classical liberal social outlook and it's EU policy  is built on the consolidation of power in the elected governments of member states.

Eastern European countries like Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia – known collectively as the Visegrad group, have demanded that the extension of powers vested in the unelected bureaucrats of the European Commission be reined in as a consequence of Britain’s vote to leave the bloc.

Kaczynksi said Poland had put forward in unofficial talks suggestions on how to change the EU’s treaties to strengthen nation states.

While European citizens are increasingly at risk of arrest for "hate speech" and "xenophobic remarks" (both terms for which there is no legal definition in any state of Europe,) the law does not apply equally to all Europeans, the ruling elites it sems can say what they like about whom they dislike.
