Dutch Farmers Resisting The Transition To The New Normal - Civil Unrest Breaks Out On Belgium Over Rising Prices

Dutch Farmers Protest Against Lockdowns And Globalism

Since the rise to prominence of The World Economic Forum which now claims to have penetrated the governments of all major nation and global corporations with its cultural Marxist ideology, governments in the liberal democracies have been openly revealing their subservience to the billionaire psychopaths of Big Finance, Big Pharma the Gates and Rockefeller Foundations, BlackRock and the military-financial-industrial complex behind the ‘Great Reset’, ‘New Normal’ or whichever other benign-sounding term is used to dress up the crisis and current restructuring of capitalism and the brutal impacts on the lives and incomes of ordinary people.

In late 2019 and early 2020 (due to collapsing financial markets immediately prior to COVID) and during the COVID era of lockdowns, mask mandates, forces closures of buinesses trillions of dollars were handed over, (via COVID-relief packages,) to elite interests while lockdowns and restrictions involving loss of income and jobs were imposed on ordinary people and small businesses. The winners were the global corporations like Amazon, Big Pharma and the tech giants. The losers were small enterprises, communities (Main Street is not just a place we go to buy stuff, it is a social hub too,) and the bulk of the population, deprived of their right to work and the entire panoply of civil rights their ancestors struggled for.

In August 2020, a report by the International Labour Organization stated that COVID policies had severely disrupted economies across the world with estimated losses of productivity equivalent to nearly 400 million full-time jobs in the second quarter of 2020.

The restrictions and closure of the global economy predictably hit the poor hardest – the 1.6 billion informal (low-income) economy workers, representing half the global workforce while the elites were unscathed.

In India, the effects of lockdown drove about 230 million people into poverty. A May 2021 report by Azim Premji University highlights how – to survive lockdown – the poorest 25% of households borrowed 3.8 times their median income, as against 1.4 times for the top 25%.

Meanwhile, the rich were well taken care of.

According to Left Voice:

“The Modi government handled the pandemic by protecting the profits of big business and prioritising the fortunes of billionaires over safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of workers.”

But this approach was not limited to India. Between April and July 2020, the total wealth held by billionaires around the world grew by 25% to $10+ trillion.

Due to financial COVID ‘relief packages’, governments are now under the thumb of global banking interests more than ever before and the post-COVID era is ushering in crushing austerity measures due to the complex terms on which loans were made, especially in Africa and the Global South where the poorest nations are found. This was the inevitable consequence of closing down the world economy as many of us inhabitants of Planet Reality warned, but our posts in internet forums are increasingly censored by big Tech because THE TRUTH is now calssed as misinformation and legal but harmful. The disastrous consequences of lockdowns wereomething that was known beforehand and devised to benefit the hegemonic interests of the World Economic Forum and their undemocratic geopolitical goals.

What we are witnessing is an economic reset – which policies carried out under the guise of preventing  COVID helped set in motion. This reset includes energy and food ‘transitions’ and is tied to a ‘green’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda and emerging green bond financial markets that will be highly profitable for banks and investors. Moreover, current sanctions placed on Russia are helping to disrupt food and energy markets thereby accelerating the planned changes.

As part of the ‘food transition’, we hear much talk of ‘precision’ agriculture driven by AI and cloud technology. Farmerless farms and driverless machines are to become the norm. This transition involves commodity crops – patented, genetically engineered seeds doused with chemicals –  cultivated for ‘biomatter’, manipulated by biotech companies and constituted in giant vats into something resembling food.

This is part of the brave new world being promoted by the self-labelled ‘visionaries’ associated with the World Economic Forum – an Orwellian future where capitalist ‘liberal democracy’ has run its course.

To sell this to people, ‘smart’ is key to the sales pitch – smart cities, smart interconnectivity, smart agriculture and so on. A ‘smart’ digital world encompassing almost everything, not least ‘precision’ surveillance of the population – its behaviour, its dissent or conformity, its digital money and its purchasing.

Integral to this is the financialisation of nature and an ESG agenda linked to the ‘green profiling’ of nations, companies and individuals and their carbon footprint. A green imperialism (no doubt forced through on the back of debt-related conditionalities) to ensure countries (and people) comply with sustainability/net-zero goals that are used to facilitate highly profitable technologies and fresh business models.

For instance, how could countries demonstrate their ESG ‘green’ credentials while maintaining their international credit ratings? Perhaps by allowing herbicide-resistant GMO commodity crop monocultures that the strategically influential GM industry and its lobbyists misleadingly portray as ‘climate friendly’.

Or maybe by displacing indigenous peoples and using their lands and forests under the guise of ‘carbon sinks’ for global corporations to ‘offset’ their pollution and claim ‘net-zero’ status.

With this in mind, let us turn to the current farmer protest in the Netherlands, where there is a plan to remove farmers from the land, using concerns over the environment as justification.

On one hand, there is the official government narrative that this ‘transition’ is needed to reduce animal-based agriculture and the meat industry’s dangerous emissions. This is where the ‘food transition’ comes in: ‘precision’ agriculture, fewer farmers and fake-meat made in a lab – sold as climate-friendly which is anything but, given that it will rely on intensive commodity cropping and long-line supply chains for biomatter.

On the other hand, however, the Dutch government’s official narrative of reducing nitrogen and ammonia emissions by transforming farming can easily be used as cover for a standard ‘land grab’ to line the pockets of property developers and investors as part of the vision for a mega ‘tristate’ city – mentioned in the 2017 article Dutch investors launch new marketing programme for NL: Tristate City.

Dutch campaigner Willem Engel is reported on the Rio Times website as saying that, under the guise of climate protection, the way to get there seems to be through forced expropriation. He claims that the Dutch government is not seeking to eliminate about a third of its farms for environmental reasons. Instead, it is about the construction of Tristate City, a megalopolis with a population of around 45 million extending to areas of Germany and Belgium.

Engel says that the so-called ‘nitrogen crisis’ is fictional, a purely political issue to reshape the country’s landscape. He argues that the largest nitrogen emissions are not caused by agriculture but by industry.

This is not to imply that the Netherlands is to become a country totally buried under concrete. But much farmland is strategically important to industry and housing. The tristate concept is based on a giant unified ‘green’ urban region ‘smart’ enough to compete with the massive metropolises we see in Asia, not least in China.

Of course, the food transition and the tristate concept are not mutually exclusive and can both be regarded as integral to the overall ‘sustainability’ agenda. Either way, the type of corporate environmentalism, economic reset and corporate-led ‘food transition’ currently being promoted globally has little to do with protecting the environment. It is a financially lucrative agenda that has co-opted the terms and concerns of genuine environmentalists.

That much has been made clear by investigative journalist Corey Morningstar who has described the nature of and links between the  corporate-billionaire interests driving this process in her revealing multi-part article ‘The Manufacture of Greta Thunberg’.

In finishing, let’s turn to the official tristate city website where it states:

Dit model heeft geen enkele relatie met het stikstofbeleid van de Nederlandse overheid!”

Translation:

“This model has no relation to the nitrogen policy of the Dutch government!”

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands visited with disgruntled farmers on Thursday to hear their pleas for help as the globalist government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte attempts to institute EU-driven green agenda goals that could see up to a third of livestock farms in the country shut down.

The royal couple of the Netherlands toured the Deurne region on Thursday, where they met with representatives of the De Peel national park, which is one of the EU designated areas that the government of Mark Rutte wishes to impose nitrogen emission limits on.

The King and Queen were reportedly greeted by dozens of inverted Dutch flags hanging on the fences surrounding the park, a symbol of the farmer protest movement against the green agenda.

Voicing apparent support for the protest movement, King Willem-Alexander said: “The Netherlands cannot do without farmers. It’s not like, we have a problem and you have to solve it. It’s not us against them. The appreciation has to come again and it’s nice to be able to talk with you here.”

According to a report from the Omroep Brabant public broadcaster, the constitutional monarch’s words pleased many of the farmers present, with one farmer, Frank Rooijakkers saying: “I think he will really talk to Rutte in The Hague” on their behalf.

Explaining his situation to the King, Rooijakkers said: “I have a great interest in clarity. In June we will be told that the nitrogen must be halved. It is now September and there is still no clarity about how it should be tackled and that is not expected. We always have to think two steps ahead of political decisions.”

Pig farmer Henriette Driessen also voiced her concerns to the King, questioning if farmers like her are “still wanted in the Netherlands?”

“We have been working on reducing nitrogen in Brabant for a while, but I get the feeling that we are only being pushed back,” she said.

Another pig farmer from the area, John van Paassen, told the King that he was forced to shut down his business, saying: “You sign a piece of paper that you can never be a pig farmer again. That is very difficult.”

The Dutch agriculture minister has resigned amid a tumultuous summer of protests by farmers over pollution regulations.

Henk Staghouwer, who held the position for only nine months, announced his departure on Twitter.

He later told reporters that he wasn’t the right person for the job and would be resigning.

The country’s lucrative agriculture sector has been in crisis since a 2019 court ruling forced the government to slash emissions of nitrogen oxide and ammonia, which livestock produce.

Thousands of agricultural workers have staged protests, blockading cities with tractors and burning hay bales along major roads.

“Farmers and fishermen need certainty about where the sector is headed so that they can invest and do business,” he said.

Staghouwer had just returned from Brussels, where he negotiated an agreement with the European Commission to scrap a Dutch exemption to manure spreading limits.

The Netherlands -- along with Denmark, Ireland and the Flanders region of Belgium -- are allowed by the EU to exceed caps on how much manure farmers could return to their fields.

This is due in part to the country’s comparatively small land area.

Brussels wants to phase this exception out because the Netherlands has failed to meet EU water quality standards.

Staghouwer had been tasked with transitioning the sector away from intensive farming practices and buying out farmers to reduce total emissions.

“I respect his brave decision,” Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte wrote on Twitter.

Staghouwer’s role will temporarily be taken on by former Dutch agricultural minister Carola Schouten.

Dutch farmers protest after being 'hurt very hard' by nitrogen emission targets

Dutch farmers are continuing to protest government plans to halve nitrogen emissions by 2030, a move which they claim will put many out of business.

The Netherlands is the world's second largest exporter of agricultural goods, but intensive farming methods and a high population density mean that nitrogen levels have started to reach illegal levels – prompting the Hague to take action.

The Dutch government says the targets are essential to protect the country's air, water, soil and biodiversity – specifically insects, which it says are vital to agriculture.

Farmers, though, say they have invested a lot in being environmentally friendly and that the new measures will "hurt very hard."

Meat and dairy farms are responsible for 41 percent of the country's nitrogen emissions through animal waste.

And the plans to halve nitrogen emissions by 2030 could mean that over 11,000 farms would have to close, with another 17,000 farmers having to reduce production, and so meaning a dramatic restructuring of Dutch agriculture.

There has been a summer of protests in the Netherlands by farmers.

"For the first time in my life I went to a demonstration," said dairy farmer Henk Schoonvelde. "I went with my tractor over the main roads, it was really crazy to do, we were with thousands of tractors.

"The reason is, in my opinion, this government uses the nitrogen problem for other things. The Netherlands is very crowded and full and they need space – the farmers, we have land and they want to use our land."

The Farmers Defense Force has said that the Dutch agriculture industry is already one of the greenest in the world.

Jos Ubels, vice-president of the Farmers Defense Force, said: "The targets that our government is putting up now, they are hurting the farms really hard because we invested a lot in the environment, in animal friendly production.

"We can see that we are in the top five of the most environmentally-friendly ways of production in the world, so we did a lot already. But we're all family farms and we spent millions on this, so we need to make that money back."

Dutch Farmers Protest As Government Tries To Slaughter 30% Of Their Livestock To Meet Climate Goals.

Farmers in The Netherlands have taken to the streets and have been duking it out with police, as the Dutch governments is forcibly trying to sequester farms and kill-off livestock in order to meet their climate initiatives.

This article was originally posted on June 30th. New information and commentary has since been added.

In September of last year The WinePress reported that the Dutch government released their proposals kill 30% of the nation’s livestock supply, in a bid to reduce their nitrogen runoffs and emissions.

Agriculture minister Carola Schouten confirmed that forced sales of emissions rights or land would be a last resort, but said some emitters “cannot carry on [as they are] so we must ensure that we have the rules that are necessary.”

A snippet from that report

The Dutch nation is home to over 100 million cattle, swine, and chickens.

Two months ago The WP also reported that the Dutch government is investing lab-grown faux meats for sale and consumption.

Farmers Not Backing Down

But many of the farmers and ranchers in The Netherlands are not willing to comply with the government’s move to ruin their operations.

Dutch media, along with the government, have condemned and frowned upon these farmers for resisting the government’s agendas.

‘The government has admitted that some farms will have to shut down in areas which are particularly vulnerable to the impact of nitrogen-based pollution, much to the fury of radical farmers, known as the Farmers Defence Force,’ Dutch News reported on June 19th.

Over a week ago the farmer’s protest began to grow in strength and number, as leaders of these coalitions and others involved began to start visiting the homes of the politicians involved in this scheme, to the point where the politician’s children were reportedly scared by their actions, to which one of the group’s leaders, Mark van den Oever, called nature minister Christianne van der Wal’s children “p******” for being scared.

Our country is run according to the rule of law, not the rule of the tractor.

Said D66 parliamentary party leader Jan Paternotte

Demonstrations began on the 22nd, with anywhere from 20-30,000 protestors hitting the streets to rebel against the government’s compulsory climate edicts, leading to schools closing and road traffic being redirected.

We have always said we want to be part of constructive talks, but if you see the plan two years later, and nothing has been done with our contribution, then we have just been wasting time.

Protest organizer and dairy farmer Jeroen van Maanen told local news

Netherlands News Live has reported that continued blockades around the nation have led to logistical backlogs and delays, as deliveries are missing their flights and destinations on time, along with street traffic backed-up as well.

Farmers have been blockading roads with their tractors and haybales on different roads and highways. The groups have alerted the public that there will be delays due to their protests.

How Dutch protests ignited a global backlash to the ‘green’ war on farmers

Farmers drive tractors on the southern motorway towards Auckland city during a protest against government regulations on November 21, 2021, in Auckland, New Zealand

ALMERE, The Netherlands (RealClearInvestigations) – Farmers in the Netherlands reduced nitrogen pollution by nearly 70 percent through a voluntary system. But the government says that is not enough and is demanding that they cut pollution by another 50 percent by 2030.

By the Dutch government’s own estimates, 11,200 farms out of the roughly 35,000 dedicated to dairy and livestock would have to close under its policies; 17,600 farmers would have to reduce livestock; and total livestock would need to be reduced by one-half to one-third.

The Dutch government has demanded that animal farming stop entirely in many places. Of the over $25.7 billion the government has set aside to reduce pollution, just $1 billion is for technological innovation, with most of the rest for buying out farmers.

This effort has sparked a fierce backlash among Dutch farmers, who argue that the government seems more interested in reducing animal agriculture than in finding solutions that protect the food supply and their livelihoods.

“Why would you buy out farmers or reduce livestock when you have the possibility to invest in innovation?” asked Caroline van der Plas, the founder and sole Member of Parliament for the Farmer-Citizen Movement party, or BBB in Dutch. “The car industry innovated for the past 40 years. There aren’t fewer cars and the cars we have are cleaner. We even have electrical cars. That’s what I think is so crazy. Why don’t we treat the farmers just like the car industry? Give them time to develop solutions or innovate? We can produce food in a much more efficient and cleaner way if we do that. And it’s much cheaper also then by buying out farmers.”

Farmer protests in the Netherlands come at a time of heightened global food insecurity created by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a major wheat exporter.

The Netherlands is the largest exporter of meat in Europe and the second largest exporter of food overall by economic value in the world, after the United States, a remarkable feat for a nation half the size of Indiana. Farm exports generate nearly $100 billion a year in revenue. Experts attribute the nation’s success to its farmers’ embrace of technological innovation.

The Netherlands is just one of the countries where governments are pushing for sharp limits on farming. Canada, for example, is seeking a 30 percent reduction in nitrogen pollution by 2030. While the Canadian government says it is not mandating fertilizer use reductions, only pollution reductions, experts agree that such a radical pollution decline in such a short period will only be possible through reducing fertilizer use, and thus food production. The cost to farmers would be between $10 billion and $48 billion.

“If you push farmers against the wall with no wiggle room, I don’t know where this will end up,” said Gunter Jochum, president of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association. “Just look at what’s happening in Europe, in the Netherlands. They’ve had enough of it.”

Where the proposed Dutch restrictions are driven by land and air pollution concerns, the Canadian restrictions are driven by the desire for strong action on climate change. But greenhouse gas emissions from farming pale compared to those from energy. Where carbon emissions from farming in Canada rose 87 percent to under 8 metric tons between 1990 and 2020, emissions from oil and gas production tripled, adding 69 metric tons of carbon dioxide, during the same period. With the pollution, however, came more food. Canada’s spring wheat yields increased over 40 percent during the period.

The most dramatic consequences of government intervention occurred in Sri Lanka, where a 2021 fertilizer ban led to a massive reduction in yields, sparking starvation and an economic crisis that brought down the government in July. Because agriculture is a source of greenhouse gases, the efforts by the governments and the backlash they are fomenting may be a harbinger of a global crisis.

Protest breaks out in Belgium over skyrocketing energy costs

People in Belgium take to the streets in 'a national day of action over increased cost of living.

Thousands of people from all over the country descended on the Belgian capital Brussels on Wednesday for "a national day of action" to protest against skyrocketing electricity, natural gas and food prices and the government's inaction in the face of this perfect storm of crises. The protestors also wanted to draw attention to the sharp hike in the cost of living.

City offficials and senior police Officers said that around 10,000 took part but in line with custom and practice in EU states when commenting on anti EU protests this is probavly a vast underestimate. People from across the country joined the protest, carrying banners reading "Life is much too expensive, we want solutions now," and "Everything is going up except our wages," or chanting "Freeze prices, not people." City traffic and public transportation was disrupted.

EUROPEAN GOVERNMENTS, CITIZENS GEAR UP FOR WORSENING ENERGY CRISIS

A Belgian opinion poll this week suggested that 64% of respondents are concerned that they will not be able to pay their electricity and gas bills, which have more than doubled over the last year, while 80% of said they are already trying to make energy and water savings.

Do We Have A Winter Of Civil Disobedience Ahead?
As many people in Britain slap on the apres sun gloop in the wake of what passes for a heatwave in these cool cloudy climes, our inept politicians caught with their pants down by unusual weather as usual have heard that that winter is coming and are making plans for a coldwave. We are in the grip of an energy crisis at the height of summer.
