The story that is frontrunner in mainstream news today concerns the pressure being put on Spain because the Spanish government offered to allow a flotilla of Russian warships to refuel en route to Syria. The US government and NATO officials say that on arriving off the Syrian coast the fleet will be used for bolstering the bombing campaign against the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo.Spanish newspaper El País reported that the Spanish ministry of foreign affairs was reviewing the permit issued to the Russian flotilla to stop at Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on the coast of north Africa. Politicians and military figures condemned the support from a NATO member as "scandalous," and "wholly inappropriate," while the head of the alliance indicated Madrid should rethink the pit stop.
We are now hearing that Spain will withdraw the offer after pressure from NATO and the USA.
Once again one is gobsmacked by the hypocrisy and blatant dishonesty of western leaders, who are now relentless in pursuit of war with Russia and China. While we do not know how Russia will deploy its ships in the eastern Mediterranean, we do know that more Syrian civilians in Aleppo have died under bombardment from US backed terrorist groups (Obama's beloved moderate rebels) than from Russian air strikes on the rebel held part of the city.
Supporters of Barack Obama and his anointed successor Hillary Clinton will no doubt howl in outrage at any suggestion that these two 'liberal neo-con hawks should bear any responsibility for the chaos in Syria, while it is certain mainstream media in the USA & Canada, Britain and Europe will not waste a single word on covering a report published by Amnesty today, which reveals that civilians are dying as a direct result of US airstrikes.
USA must come clean about civilian deaths caused by Coalition air strikes in Syria

US-led Coalition forces carrying out air strikes in Syria must conduct thorough investigations into reports of civilian casualties from its operations and disclose their findings, said Amnesty International. Eleven Coalition attacks examined by the organization appear to have killed some 300 civilians during two years of strikes targeting the armed group calling itself Islamic State (IS).So far the US authorities have provided no response to a memorandum Amnesty International sent to the US Department of Defense on 28 September 2016 to raise questions about the conduct of Coalition forces in Syria. The memorandum compiles and analyzes information from
various sources, including eyewitnesses to attacks, which suggests that US Central Command (CENTCOM), which directs Coalition forces in Syria, may have failed to take necessary precautions to spare civilians and carried out unlawful attacks that have killed and injured civilians.
“We fear the US-led Coalition is significantly underestimating the harm caused to civilians in its operations in Syria,” said Lynn Maalouf Deputy Director for Research at Amnesty International’s Beirut regional office.
“Analysis of available evidence suggests that in each of these cases, Coalition forces failed to take adequate precautions to minimize harm to civilians and damage to civilian objects. Some of these attacks may constitute disproportionate or otherwise indiscriminate attacks.
“It’s high time the US authorities came clean about the full extent of the civilian damage caused by Coalition attacks in Syria. Independent and impartial investigations must be carried out into any potential violations of international humanitarian law and the findings should be made public.”
Amnesty International has reviewed publicly available information from local human rights organizations and monitoring groups as well as media reports, and where feasible it has interviewed eyewitnesses, carried out analysis of satellite imagery, photographs and video evidence, to piece together as much detail as possible about the circumstances of 11 US-led Coalition attacks in which evidence suggests as many as 300 civilians were killed. To date CENTCOM has only acknowledged one single such death in these attacks.
With the aim of achieving that goal, Washington began funding and training various Al Qaeda affiliated extremist groups and providing them with technical advisers and training until the ragbag terrorist force eventually coalesced into ISIS.
So instead of trying to demonise Russia as an imperialist power, the USA should accept full credit for the war in Syria and all the deaths that have resulted from it.
