Starmer's Support For Palestine His Biggest Mistake In A Year Filled With Big Mistakes

WTF was Keir Starmer thinking of when he uttered that imbecilic  threat to recognise a state of Palestine unless Israel meets his demands? Not only does The Prime Wimp demonstrate once again his tenuous grip on reality, if such a policy succeeded it would work against the interests of its own citizens,  and constitutes an abysmal betrayal.

First, the Dickhead of Downing Street has commanded the Jewish state to end the war in Gaza. Would that be with or without its hostages, Prime Minister? With or without Hamas remaining in power? If Israelis remain in captivity and Hamas remains in place, further rounds of bloodshed are a certainty, and the suffering will be handed on to future generations. These are the hard realities that the Israelis must face. But the Jewish state was born in conflict and is perhaps destined to remain in conflict.

Secondly, the PM wants Israel to allow the United Nations to retake control of aid distribution. But the reason Jerusalem intervened was that it believed the UN was working hand-in-glove with Hamas, which was taking much of the aid and selling it at inflated prices, raising the money it needed to pay its fighters.

According to Israeli intelligence, ten per cent of UN employees in Gaza, about 1,200 men, are card-carrying members of Hamas or Islamic Jihad, and terrorists have made good use of UN facilities. About 12 members of UN staff were allegedly involved in the October 7 atrocities.

The UN aid operation was keeping Hamas in power. Without that source of income, the jihadi grip on the Strip was weakening. That is exactly why Hamas made returning aid to UN hands a key negotiating demand.

Any leader recognising Palestine as a state certainly isn’t a realist, they’re not even an idealist, but they are 100% appeasers playing politics with people's lives and aparently unaware of Israel's pivotal role in maintaining the delicate balance in the middle east. However the point all these appeasers of Islamic extremism , whose number includes Starmer, Macron, Carney and Merz have missed is that now let so many Jew-hating Muslims into their countries in their pursit of 'woke' kudos, they’re forced to bend over for Islam or face the consequence of terrorist action against their own nations and people.

Islamic Fundamentalist Government In Syria Attacks Minorities - We Told You This Would Happen

 

When the Syrian government of basar Al Assad fell in late 2024, after militant forces backed by certain western powers launched a surprise offensive and took control over Damascus in a matter of days the Syrian military, which under Assad's Alawite Muslim regime, had protected Christian, Jewish, Yazidi, Druze and Kurdish minorities, collapsed and has been replaced by new security forces composed of assorted Islamic fundamentalist former jihadist groups.

The situation in coastal Syria deteriorated last week with clashes between the new security forces and local militias, described in Western media as loyalists of former President Bashar Assad, reported. The violence has been centered in areas populated by Alawites, an ethnoreligious group the former president belongs to. While commonly described as an Islamic sect, Alawites are regarded negatively by hardline Islamists, who believe them to be apostates subject to extermination. 

Numerous extremely graphic videos circulating online purport to show militants with the new security forces torturing and executing civilians, including women and children, in broad daylight. At least 1,300 people, including more than 800 civilians, have been reportedly killed in the cities of Latakia and Tartus over the past three days. Syria’s de-facto leader and former head of the jihadist force HTS Ahmed al-Sharaa has condemned the violence and promised to hold those harming civilians accountable.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has denounced “radical Islamist terrorists, including foreign jihadis” for massacring members of Syrian minority groups, including Christians, Druze, Alawites and Kurds.

Boggart Blog did warn that once the western hegemonic cartel had deposed Assad his admittedly authoritarian regime would be replaced by something far worse.

 

Extremist "Rebels" In Syria Backed By US, UK and Israel. False Flag Revolution To Achieve Regime Change?

The fall of the Assad regime in Syria took everyone by surprise. The sheer speed of the government's collapse as an entire army walked away from the raggle - taggle gang of jihadi rag heads driving at high speed south in some very modern and expensive looking military vehicles (possibly supplied by tge USA and its NATO allies via crooked Ukrainian oligarchs,) and meeting little resistance until they reached Damascus, was stunning. 

But who are the winners and losers? Does this now weaken Iran thus tempting the U.S. and Israel to take a second shot at it? Or will Israel now target Iran’s allies in the region now that the Shia Crescent no longer has a lifeline highway which can be used to supply Hezbollah in Lebanon?

All of these questions remain unanswered as we start to hear of atrocities carried out by HTS (the terrorist group formerly known as Al Nusra and now hailed by western leaders as moderte freedom fighters,) against Syrian Christians, Jews, Alawite, Yazidi and Druze minorities we must wait to find out whether these jihadists from Idlib have the political skills to feather their own beds with regional players. Perhaps within Syria, it might be harder as already, at the time or writing, the HTS is already fighting key towns in the north which are controlled by Turkey’s main foe, the PKK, or should we say the YPG as it is known – the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which is largely made up of Kurds, with a minority of Syrian army defectors thrown into the mix.

HTS are also engaged in eastern Syria with the remnants of ISIS and various other rebel groups each trying to grab their own bit of the disintegrating nation.

The clash in the north now is interesting as the Kurds own the key part of Syria which has both the oil and the best agricultural land. Surely, one would argue that Jolani will now move to kick out the Kurds, even though their backers – the USA – are his as well. It is often the case that rival groups in Syria who are both on Uncle Sam’s payroll fight one another. But the scale of this potential conflict is huge and should not be underestimated.

Syria is flat broke. Its economy is tatters as a result of yers of western backed civil war and economic sanctions, with government soldiers only earning 7 USD a month in local Syrian pounds, probably one of the world’s most devalued currency in the last decade. interesting 

More interesting is the way it was a Turkish leader often despised by U.S. officials who took the place of the Saudis and Emiratis who, in 2006, just after the embarrassing 34 day war in Lebanon which gave Israel a bloody nose, assured Dick Cheney that America would never be seen to be actually funding the most brutal terror group in the Middle East to fight its dirty wars. 

America, under Obama, actually gave Al Quada, ISIS and its affiliates hundreds of millions of dollars to fight Assad once the CIA had officially given approval to the plan to topple the Syrian dictator in 2014. It was actually U.S. government policy to overthrow Assad with Syria always seen, even back then, as the weakest link in Iran’s sphere of power and influence. More significant of course is that Obama is a (closet) Sunni Muslim, the Syrian regime were Alawites, and as is always the case with religious fanatics, the worst crime in the eyes of a Sunni zealot is not to be a non - Muslim but to be the wrong sort of Muslim.

The downfall of Assad is most significant, in terms of salient points it raises, or myths it debunks, for the fact that western media will no longer be able to ignore the Westsernbankrolling of the most gruesome, horrific terrorists in the world while standing in line with the Charlie Hebdo funeral procession and condemning the Ariana Grande Manchester concert bomb. Despite mainstream media putting in a sterling effort in an interview with former Al Qaeda hit man Jolani to sanitise his past and present him as an enlightened secular leader, the cat is out of the bag.

It’s really about relationships. How to keep them, how to win new ones and how to lose them.

Ironically, it was Assad in the end who was the weakest link. He refused to have his army trained both by the Russians and then later by the Iranians. He decided that his longevity was via Israel, and so cozied up to the UAE who helped him with the lobbying in DC which some believe was working. Assad was actually trying to make himself the spy who came in from the cold with his Washington contacts rather than stay with the Russians and the Iranians. Given that it was Russia who saved him from a humiliating defeat in 2015 when most western hacks were already writing his eulogy, perhaps there is a lesson there for regional leaders.

But most leaders don’t learn lessons. In recent years relations between Assad and Erdogan swung from one high point to the other. Assad could have worked with Erdogan on destroying the SDF and take back the territory. There was an offer there. Yet Assad was blinded by his own dogma and vanity which is perhaps the key point which he has in common with Erdogan.

The Turkish leader now must reevaluate himself and his country. On the one hand, he has earned a great many points with both the U.S. and Israel, the latter being an arch enemy which has served his political narrative for some time, particularly recently. Does Erdogan now fulfil his dream of having a government in Damascus which is made up of Ottoman type functionaries and the same ideology? Or do both Israel and the U.S. now cast Erdogan aside thinking they have no longer any use for him, a move, in itself which would spark a full-scale civil war in Syria between these two main players.

The Saudi Power Balance Is At A Tipping Point

We have reported several times on the drift of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia away from a theocratic monarchy that was willing to tolerate western values and morals for the sake of doing business towards becoming an isolated, fabulously wealthy and dangerous sponsor of terrorism in the cause of spreading a fundamentalist version of Islam as widely as possible throughout the world.

The present ruler, King Salman is over 80 years old, ailing and though nominally the supreme ruler, cannot be said to truly be in charge of anything beyond his own body functions (assuming he IS in control of his body functions,). The recently elevated next in line, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is an extremist  and a jihadist, who supports a literal interpretation of The Koran and would seek to impose Sharia law in all nations where there is a Sunni Muslim majority.

The problem is the man who was bumped down the pecking order resents his demotion, still has a lot of influence and has the support of the CIA. In other words he's still a contender.

After his successful elevation to Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS) has now been appointed by King Salman to be in charge during the monarch's holiday to Morocco. The King’s holiday comes at a time of relative instability in the Kingdom, as the effects of the removal of former Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Nayef at the end of the Ramadan period continue to linger.

King Salman’s choice to award his son the position of Crown Prince was expected, but insiders are warning that his predecessor still holds a great deal of influence. To put MBS in charge during this already very volatile period in the Gulf, as the Saudi-led alliance continues to up the pressure on Arab neighbor Qatar, is feeding into uncertainty.

The Crown Prince also faces pressure due to the lack of progress in his personal prohject, the Yemen War (against the Shia Muslim Houthi rebels and their backers, Iran), the failure of the Saudi strategy to stabilize the oil market, and the Qatar crisis, triggered by MBS' decision to blockade the tiny state by land, sea and air, have put a major dent in the confidence of Saudi Arabia's trading partners. The impact of these problems is being kept at bay by the enormous financial reserves of Saudi Arabia, but as the list of failing MBS initiated endeavors grows, his position in the Kingdom is under increasing pressure.

At the same time, rumors are spreading that the health of King Salman has further deteriorated. Sources in Saudi Arabia have suggested that King Salman is even considering abdication in the next few months to put MBS on the throne. The current rule of MBS during the King’s holiday could be a taste of things to come.

As mentioned above the position of MBS as nominated successor is not entirely secure, a significant group of royal family members oppose the position of MBS in general and are scared he might declare their regular shopping expeditions to harrods in London or Gallieries Lafayete in Paris to be unislamic. Further opposition exists within the old guard of the security forces, with Miteb Bin Abdullah, currently head of the Saudi Arabian National Guard, seen as a possible target for removal. The National Guard is regarded, if used by the opposition, as a real threat to MBS in general and is very loyal to former King Abdullah’s entourage. The Guards were not mentioned in the latest Royal Decree, a sign of their importance and power within the Kingdom. All together it suggests the defeat of ISIS in Syria and Iraq is a long way from the end of the middle east's current round of local wars.

Mad Dog Gaddafi Warned Of Islamist Attacks On Europe If His Regime Was Ousted ...

So what did our western leaders, notably the FUKUS axis (France, UK, US) do. They fucking killed him and turned his country into a failed state where the breakdown of law and order and the lack of a coherent government has allowed Islamic extremism to gain a foothold and prosper.

Back in 2011, in a phone call with Tony Blair, lasting half an hour, Gaddafi tried to prevent the regime change bombing campaign led by barack Obama and the USA, warning that if his regime was overthrown Islamic torrorist groups would use Libya as a conduit to infiltrate and attack Europe. Gaddafi insisted he was trying to defend Libya from al-Qaeda fighters. The presence of al-Qaeda terror cells would later be superceded by the rise of the so-called Islamic State.

"We are not fighting them, they are attacking us, " he said, "I want to tell you the truth. It is not a difficult situation at all. The story is simply this: an organisation has laid down sleeping cells in North Africa. Called the Al-Qaeda Organisation in North Africa... The sleeping cells in Libya are similar to dormant cells in America before 9/11

"They have managed to get arms and terrify people. people can't leave their homes... It's a jihad situation. They have arms and are terrorising people in the street."

In a second call made a little over four hours later, Gaddafi told Mr Blair: "I will have to arm the people and get ready for a fight. Libyan people will die, damage will be on the Mediterranean, Europe and the whole world. These armed groups are using the situation [in Libya] as a justification - and we shall fight them." a transcript of the converstation, published in 2016 revealed.

 Former British Prime Minister Blair made two calls to Gaddafi to try to negotiate the dictator's departure from Tripoli as civil war engulfed the nation. Three weeks later, a Nato-led coaltion that included Britain, began bombing raids that led to the overthrow of Gaddafi. The dictator was finally deposed in August and murdered by a mob two months later.

In the calls Blair told Gaddafi: "If you have a safe place to go you should go there because this will not end peacefully and there has to be a process of change, that process of change can be managed and we have to find a way of managing it.

"The US and the EU are in a tough position right now and I need to take something back to them which ensures this ends peacefully."

Mr Blair ended the call by saying: "i would like to offer a way out that is peaceful... keep the lines open."

Gaddafi's warnings appear to have been born out. Libya has collapsed following his overthrow. The country remains in the grip of civil war, with three rival groups each claiming to be the legitimate government, and much of Libya's territory is in the control of Islamist extremists linked to the ISIS  .

Terrorists sent by Isil to France were responsible for the attacks on Paris in November 2015 amid growing concern jihadists are crossing into Europe from north Africa and the Middle East.

As Aleppo Falls ISIS Fighters Regroup To Recapture Palmyra

Reports coming from Russian military advisers in Syria claim 4,000 Islamic State aka IS, ISIS, ISIL, Daesh terrorists, equipped with tanks (now what bunch of turkey's did they get those from we wonder?),armoured vehicles, and modern artillery are staging an offensive to retake the Syrian city of Palmyra after regrouping following retreats from Aleppo and Mosul in Iraq, the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria says.

According to Russian sources, the terrorists have also benefitted from considerable reinforcement, including heavy military hardware from the regions of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.

“IS has dispatched a considerable force to Palmyra from the area of Raqqa, where militants, backed by the US and the international coalition ceased combat action against the terrorists this week,” the statement by the Russian military says. The Reconciliation Center notes that the Syrian Army and their Iranian allies are engaging the jihadists in combat.

"Despite heavy losses in manpower and hardware, the terrorists seek to gain a foothold in the city while the Russian Air Force is not conducting airstrikes against residential areas in the city of Palmyra," the statement reads.

Palmyra was seized by IS in 2015, however in March this year Syrian government forces reinforced by troops from Iran and backed by Russian air support, managed to liberate the city. On Saturday night however, the Syrian Army, backed by Russian air strikes, managed to repel several attacks on Palmyra, killing up to 300 jihadists, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Also on Saturday, terrorists reportedly entered some of Palmyra’s districts forcing the Syrian troops to withdraw from some of their positions. According to AP, citing the activist-run Palmyra Coordination network, jihadists gained footholds in the northern and northwestern districts of Palmyra.

Back in October, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that terrorists “were fleeing from Mosul to go to Syria.”

Meanwhile, the IS news agency Amaq has claimed that the jihadists have seized the city completely. In particular they claimed IS has control of the ancient castle in Palmyra, which overlooks the city.

In an interview with Russia Today, British journalist Martin Jay alleged that some of the fighters now attacking Palmyra might indeed have come from Iraq.

"Mosul in the early months of the campaign was quite open and there were many so-called rat runs for ISIS fighters to leave the city and headfor ISIS controlled territory. I think in the first few weeks of the campaign when it was first announced by Prime Minister Abadi in Iraq, many fighters fled and moved to different areas across the border in Syria," Jay said.

He noted that the fresh battle for Palmyra could take "quite some time" and in fact become a "prolonged" one. To prevent Russian aircraft from helping Syrian government forces, terrorists might also go deep into residential areas and take people there hostage. using them as shields.

"That's the tactic that worked for them from the very early days, you know, use civilians as buffers against air strikes." Jay also noted that Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) might use the attack on Palmyra [listed as UNESCO heritage] as a PR tool since "the world cares a great deal [more] about Palmyra than it probably does about Aleppo, and ISIS knows this."

Snowflake Alert: Students Say 'Suck It Up, Pussies' Is A Hate Crime

Day after day the news in the USA features more stories of the wailing and gnashing of teeth being generated by the special snowflakes on college campuses who were sure the war - goddess Hillary Clinton had a divine right to lead the USA because she talked of quality, multiculturalism and human rights. The snowflakes ignore the fact that Hillary promised to start World War Three in order to depose the evil tyrant Assad in Syria, because this brutal dictator had violated the human rights of a bunch of vagina multilation, head amputating, wife beating, daughter murdering, human organ noshing religious extremists who use rape as a weapon of war.

The snowflakes, who have to be told what to think, are quite happy to support a genocidal, homophobic, sexist jihad because 'multiculturalism' but are 'triggered' to an emotional crisis by any defence of or support for western values on the grounds that respect for women, tolerance of religious diversity, or acceptance of homosexuality might be a better way of running a society than medievalist third world barbarism.

But then it does not take much to 'trigger' the special snowflakes who populate the education system from high school to the most elite universities. A bunch of whining wimps at Edgewood College in the ultra-liberal bastion of Madison, Wisconsin have reportedly been triggered by a post-it note which sent them running for their 'safe space' by suggesting that they should stop whining about the election and just "suck it up, pussies."  The story was reported in Campus Reform.

The 'pussies' in question claim the note was constitutes a "hate crime" by the college's "diversity offices" and students with knowledge of the incident were encouraged to contact campus police. However it would be wrong to give readers the impression that the easily triggered 'pussies' are all students. A message from Edgewood's Vice President for Student Development, Tony Chambers, a man of non European ethnicity, pinned the blame for the "hate crime" on Donald Trump (are we really to believe the President - elect has nothing better to do than run round colleges sticking up post - it notes to trigger easlily offended special snowflakes like Chamers,) saying that it is part of a growing trend of "covert micro-aggressions and overt macro-aggressions" that have "taken on new fervor in higher education since our national election."

Part of his message reads:

“Over the past week, there have been increasing reports of hateful acts on college and university campuses across the country.  Covert micro-aggressions and overt macro-aggressions appear to have taken on new fervor in higher education since our national election.  The frequency, boldness, and severity with which hateful acts have been occurring has, for many, signaled a new era of intolerance, fear, and mistrust in higher education.”

“A great deal of fear, sadness, and anger among students, faculty, and staff resulted, especially for those that gather in the [office space].  The message was hateful and harmful toward members of our community. It violated every value that this institution considers to be at its core.”

Our message to Chambers and cocksucking paskudniaks like him: Grow the fuck up or resign from you job, join an order of Buddhist monks and fuck the fucking fuck off to Tifuckingbet or somewhere. And that mate is by mu standards a micro aggression, a macroaggression is when I rip somebody's head off and ram it up their arse.

Russia Has Called the War Party's Bluff, Now Washinton Looks Spineless And Hillary Clinton Sounds Insane

From the Clinton power and influence for sale racketeers, with enthusiastic backing of the corporate/military/media complex in the USA to the British establishment and its corporate media mouthpieces, the European Unions unelected bureaucrat leaders and 'we'll-say-anything-if-the-money-is-right academics, the Anglo-American, self-appointed “leaders of the free world” are racking up demonization of Russia and “Putinism” to pure incandescence in their quest for a profit generating war with Russia, which these idiots believe will not only achieve a massive depopulation while generating vast profits from selling us poor taxpayers Cruise Missiles as a million dollars a bang, but will secure global dominance for the US globalist corporate cartel


Don't be taken in by this fear and panic generating exercise, global war is not going to break out after the November 8 US presidential election. The carefully constructed layers of outrage and loathing are a bluff. Let me show you an example of how war propaganda is being used to dupe the gullible into supporting the status quo from Information Clearing House.

The current issue of The Economist magazine – supposedly the most influential news and current affairs magazine published in Britain, though the extent to which this is really the case is open to doubt – carries on its cover a picture of a demonic looking Putin that goes beyond anything I have ever seen.

This picture is neither funny (such as pictures of Hitler in the British media during the Second World War famously were) nor factual (as pictures of Soviet leaders during the Cold War were). It is instead hideous and grotesque, showing a monster from a bad horror film.

That this image is profoundly shocking and dehumanising should not need saying. As such it fulfils the classic function of war propaganda, which is to dehumanise the enemy to make his killing acceptable. Certainly the publication of such an image cannot be explained in any other way.

What is however most shocking about The Economist’s cover is that in Britain it has provoked so few complaints or objections.

It should go without saying that any such depiction of the leader of any other country or nationality would in Britain today provoke a storm, with many people rightly complaining that the image was dehumanising and racist. However if the image is one of the leader of Russia nothing of the sort happens.

I recently wrote a piece for The Duran in which I spoke of how racist stereotyping of Russians in Britain and in the West is the one form of racist stereotyping which remains not only permissible but actually fashionable.

Indeed the cover of this week's Economist provides grisly confirmation of this, the image is not particularly shocking and is similar to a picture demonizing former British Labour Party Prime Minister Tony Blair used by a Conservative newspaper during one of Blair's election campaigns. The differences are Putin is a foreign leader, not a British politician engaged in fighting an election, partisan politics should not be part of a build up to war, and The Economist presents itself as an august academic journal rather than a downmarket tabloid.

But for those who are almost persuaded that only a warmogering hawk like Hillary Clinton can save us from Russian aggression, let's look at how things in the middle east, starting with with the Russian naval task force in Syria, led by the officially designated “heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser” Admiral Kuznetsov, which will be stationed in the eastern Mediterranean at least until February 2017, supporting operations against all strands of Salafi-jihadism.

The Admiral Kuznetsov is not an aircraft carrier was the war hawks in Britain have described it, though fully equipped with anti-ship airborne defense systems (short range aircraft), artillery and anti-submarine warfare systems – and able to defend itself against a vast array of threats, unlike NATO vessels, it is heading for the coast of Syria to boost Russian forces ability to defend against a US first strike and subesquent attacks on territory held by the Assad government.


Predictably, NATO is spinning the alarmist narrative that “all the Russian Northern Fleet”, along with the Baltic Fleet, is on the way to the Mediterranean. These are lies; only part of the Northern Fleet is heading for Syria, and with the USA installing launch bases for missiles with nuclear strike capability in Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania the Baltic Fleet ships are not going anywhere and Russia is beefing up its missile defence capability in its Baltic enclave Kaliningrad.

As for Syria, when the capabilities of this Russian flotilla are matched with the S-300/S-400 missile systems already deployed in Syria, Russia, in response to Hillary Clinton's ill advised (and stupid) pledge that on becoming president she will declare a no fly zone over Syria (thus leaving aircraft of the USA and its allies to bomb what's left of that country to ruin as they did in Libya, Putin, without revealing his hand, has played his aces and established a de facto no fly zone over Assad held territory, at the same time neutralising the firepower of the US Sixth Fleet.

That should put into perspective the impotence of the rent boy president as he minces around Washington trying to talk up the Russian threast, and the stupidity and reptillian anger of his anointed successor as she screams for more war, more death and more donations to the corrupt clinton Foundation.

Another problem for Washington is the Pentagon backs the YPG Kurds, who are not in favor of regime change in Damascus, knowing that if Assad falls, fanatical theorcrats will replace him and will launch a genocide against the Christians and secular Muslims of Kurdistan, while the CIA and The White House have since 2011 been funding, arming and training the human organ noshing, head amputating savages of Obama's beloved “moderate rebels”, the Al Nusra front (like ISIS, Al Qaeda affiliates.

Barack Obama does not like making difficult decisions, it is (like just about everything else) not one of his strengths) so the decision on Syria will fall to Hillary Clinton. Unilaterally declaring a no fly zone is not an available option, because Russia is already doing it. And if she decides to “punish the regime”, Moscow already telegraphed, via Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov, there will definitely be “consequences” for imposing a “shadow” hot war.

Washington, of course, reserves for itself a “first-strike” nuclear capability, which Hillary Clinton fully supports (Donald Trump does not, and for that and using words like 'pussy' he’s also demonized by warmongers in the USA and its NATO allies). If we allow the current hysteria to literally go nuclear, then we must consider the matter of the S-500 anti-missile system – which effectively seals Russia's air space; Moscow won’t admit it on the record because that would unleash a relentless arms race.

Sun Tzu doesn’t do first-strike and nether does Vladimir Putin, that's why despite three years of Washington's provocations, the world is not at war.

How Media Distorted Syrian Ceasefire’s Breakdown

One of the constant themes of this jorunal has been the constant misrepresentation of world events, particularly the conflicts in the middle east and Ukraine to skew public perceprions and persuade voters and taxpayers that Russia and China pose a serious threat to the security of western nations. While we have no particular reason to feel any loyalty towards Russia, we do not believe that vast nation or it's leader Vladimir Putin pose any threat to the west. In fact it is the western powers, NATO and the European Union, and the Obama administration in the USA that have constantly sought to provoke Russia and China. 

Coverage in western media of the conflict in Syria, the failure of US and NATO efforts to contain ISIS, the Russian intervention and subsequent breakdown of the partial ceasefire in Syria has illustrated the way in which corporate news media distort public understanding of a major story that has implications for the whole world and could possibly develop into a global conflict. The problem is not that key events in this saga are unreported, but that they have been downplayed, the significance to the west glossed over so that the threat posed by the ongoing conflicts is minimised in the perception of people who rely on mainstream (print and broadcast) news.

One key event most people in the USA and Europe are blissfully unaware of was the major offensive launched in April by Al Nusra (Barack Obama's beloved 'moderate rebels, though in reality they are every bit as brutal and bloody as ISIS) alongside US-backed armed opposition groups. The offensive received minimal coverage in British, US and European 'quality' newspapers, ignored by more populist titles and hardly mentioned on TV news. Even the most diligent news junkie however, would not have read that the offensive broke the back of the partial ceasefire. On the contrary, they would have gotten the clear impression from following the major newspapers’ coverage that  systematic violations by the Assad government doomed the ceasefire from the beginning.

The Obama administration of course had no interest at all in defeating ISIS and Al Qaeda affiliated groups, Washington's priority, their only goal in fact, was to depose Assad and install a puppet government in his place. In this they were supported by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. 

Corporate media heralded the ceasefire agreement as a great triumph for Obama and his Secretary Of State Jophn Kerry when it was negotiated by the United States and Russia in February, 2016. The  Los Angeles Times (2/2/16) called it “the most determined diplomatic push to date aimed at ending the nation’s almost five-year conflict.” 

The “partial cessation of hostilities” was to apply between the Syrian regime and the non-jihadist forces, but not to the regime’s war with Nusra and with ISIS. The clear implication was that the US-supported non-jihadist opposition forces would have to separate themselves from Nusra, or else they would be legitimate targets for airstrikes, something the Russians had always been very clear about.

The fact that the US backed so - called 'moderate rebels' that were Washington's CIA-backed proxy, providing armed opposition to Assad, was in fact Al Nusra  and the jihadist Nusra Front was an issue US media studiously avoided mentioning. The link was exposed in British and European media where some well informed people were starting to worry that provoking Russia by attacking its ally Assad, while supporting those trying to overthrow his regime was not the wisest approach to the middle east crisis. 

 US and NATO Syria policy has been dependent on the military potential of the Nusra Front or Free Syrian Army or any of the names the jihadists have given themselves for leverage on the Syrian regime. The 'moderate rebels' were unable to operate in northwest Syria without support from jihadists and from the Islamist regime led by President Erdogan in Turkey. This central element in US Syria policy, which both the government and the media were unwilling to acknowledge, was a central obstacle to accurate coverage of what happened to the Syrian ceasefire.

The problem of framing the failure to deafeat ISIS as a triumph for US foreign policy began as soon as the ceasefire agreement was announced. The New York Times published  a news analysis on the wider issues that were raising tensions between the Obama administration and Russia and to “the gaping loophole” in the Syria ceasefire agreement: the fact that “it permits attacks against the Islamic State and the Nusra Front, an Al Qaeda affiliate, to continue.” The notion that the 'moderate rebels' of the Free
Syrian Army were separate from ISIS had by then been largely discredited.

Hawks in Washington argued the terms of the ceasfire meant Russia could continue to strike United States-backed rebel groups without fear…of Washington’s doing anything to stop them.

On the same day the Wall Street Journal reported that Obama’s “top military and intelligence advisers did not believe Russia would abide by the ceasefire in Syria and wanted to ready plans to increase pressure on Moscow by expanding covert support to rebels fighting the Russia-backed Assad regime.” For two of the country’s most prominent newspapers, it was thus clear that the primary context of the Syria ceasefire was not its impact on Syria’s population, but how it affected Washington's geopolitical ambitions for global hegemony. In 2012 or 13 we reported that the Syria conflict was in fact a US / NATO engineered proxy war with Russia.

Contrary to western propaganda about Russian intentions to take advantage of the agreement to hit US-supported Syrian opposition groups, as soon as the partial ceasefire agreement took effect on February 27, Russia released a map that designated “green zones” its air force would not strike. The green zones, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, corresponded with Syrian opposition groups that had signed on to the ceasefire. Furthermore, Russia stopped bombing the Nusra-controlled areas of northwest Syria, instead focusing on ISIS targets further west, a scenario Pentagon spokesperson Jeff Davis confirmed on March 14.

But instead of separating themselves from Al Nusra, the US-supported (i.e. controlled) armed opposition joined forces with ISIS affiliated Al Nusra and its jihadist allies in a major offensive aimed at destroying the ceasefire. 

British middle east expert Charles Lister, a Foreign Offive adviser  on Islamic extremism in Syria, has reported being told by the commander of a US-backed armed group that around March 20, Nusra officials began a round of meetings with non-jihadist opposition groups from Hama, Latakia and southern Aleppo, including those supported by the United States, to persuade them to participate in a major offensive against the Assad regime, rather than in a ceasefire and political negotiations.

The media, having ignored the events leading up to the collapse of the ceasefire enthusiastically reported  the offensive launched on April 3 by Al Nusra and its “moderate” allies, heralding it as the turnaround in the course of conflict that would finally persuade Russia to abandon its ally and lead to the downfall of Assad. 

The Los Angeles Times reportted  a “punishing attack” by The Free Syrian Army and several “so-called moderate rebel factions” on the town of Al Eis, southwest of Aleppo, “overlooking the M5 highway, a vital artery connecting the Syrian capital, Damascus, in the southwest of the country, with the government-held city of Homs, in west-central Syria, and Aleppo in the north.”

Associated Press reported that anti - Assad forces, together with US-supported factions in the Syrian opposition had “seized government positions in heavy fighting in northwestern Latakia province.” The story quoted Zakariya Qaytaz of the US-supported Division 13 brigade as telling the agency through Twitter: “The truce is considered over. This battle is a notice to the regime.”

The Nusra-led offensive was a decisive violation of the ceasefire, calculated by Washington to anger the Russians, whose intervention with their allies in Iran had halted the advance of ISIS in Syria and Iran, effectively frustrating the Moscow led policy of isolating the jihadists. It led to continued high levels of fighting in the most heavily populated area of  north west Syria, and Russian planes returned to Al Nusra controlled territory for the first time in nearly three months. Yet after the first reports on the offensive, Syria almost vanished from mainstream media until July. No US newspaper followed up over the story of vicious and destructive fighting, although British and European news did report events but with a strong anti Assad, anti Russian bias. Nobody on either side of the Atlantic took the time to analyze its significance in terms of US policy, or Washington's true motives in arming, funding and supporting “legitimate” armed opposition groups in trashing the ceasefire.
