Conflict Kicking Off Again In Libya

Reports from Libya confirm that the conflict between rival groups claiming to be the legitimate government is escalating again. Heavy battles continue to rage in Tripoli as rival factions duel for control of the Libyan capital. The assault on the UN-backed government (which has little support among the Libyan people) is led by a Misrata commander whose success in the anti-Gadaffi rebellion was secured by the 2011 NATO intervention.

There have been sporadic clashes in Tripoli for months, after a lull in fighting which had beguin in 2011 after the falll of the Gaddafi regime, but things bacame more serious on Friday (26 May) and there was fierce fighting throughout Saturday between militias loyal to the self-proclaimed National Salvation Government (GNC) and forces loyal to the internationally-recognized Presidential Council (PC) which presides over the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) which has little support among the Libyan people..

This latest flare - up began after the GNC’s militia’s top commander, Salah Badi, launched an attack on the GNA-allied Central Security militia in an attempt to recapture parts of the capital, the Libya Herald reported.

Mad Dog Gaddafi Warned Of Islamist Attacks On Europe If His Regime Was Ousted ...

So what did our western leaders, notably the FUKUS axis (France, UK, US) do. They fucking killed him and turned his country into a failed state where the breakdown of law and order and the lack of a coherent government has allowed Islamic extremism to gain a foothold and prosper.

Back in 2011, in a phone call with Tony Blair, lasting half an hour, Gaddafi tried to prevent the regime change bombing campaign led by barack Obama and the USA, warning that if his regime was overthrown Islamic torrorist groups would use Libya as a conduit to infiltrate and attack Europe. Gaddafi insisted he was trying to defend Libya from al-Qaeda fighters. The presence of al-Qaeda terror cells would later be superceded by the rise of the so-called Islamic State.

"We are not fighting them, they are attacking us, " he said, "I want to tell you the truth. It is not a difficult situation at all. The story is simply this: an organisation has laid down sleeping cells in North Africa. Called the Al-Qaeda Organisation in North Africa... The sleeping cells in Libya are similar to dormant cells in America before 9/11

"They have managed to get arms and terrify people. people can't leave their homes... It's a jihad situation. They have arms and are terrorising people in the street."

In a second call made a little over four hours later, Gaddafi told Mr Blair: "I will have to arm the people and get ready for a fight. Libyan people will die, damage will be on the Mediterranean, Europe and the whole world. These armed groups are using the situation [in Libya] as a justification - and we shall fight them." a transcript of the converstation, published in 2016 revealed.

Former British Prime Minister Blair made two calls to Gaddafi to try to negotiate the dictator's departure from Tripoli as civil war engulfed the nation. Three weeks later, a Nato-led coaltion that included Britain, began bombing raids that led to the overthrow of Gaddafi. The dictator was finally deposed in August and murdered by a mob two months later.

In the calls Blair told Gaddafi: "If you have a safe place to go you should go there because this will not end peacefully and there has to be a process of change, that process of change can be managed and we have to find a way of managing it.

"The US and the EU are in a tough position right now and I need to take something back to them which ensures this ends peacefully."

Mr Blair ended the call by saying: "i would like to offer a way out that is peaceful... keep the lines open."

Gaddafi's warnings appear to have been born out. Libya has collapsed following his overthrow. The country remains in the grip of civil war, with three rival groups each claiming to be the legitimate government, and much of Libya's territory is in the control of Islamist extremists linked to the ISIS .

Terrorists sent by Isil to France were responsible for the attacks on Paris in November 2015 amid growing concern jihadists are crossing into Europe from north Africa and the Middle East.

It is widely known that the U.S.-led NATO intervention to topple Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 resulted in a power vacuum that has allowed terror groups like ISIS to gain a foothold in the country.
Despite the destructive consequences of the 2011 invasion, the West is currently taking a similar trajectory with regard to Syria. Just as the Obama administration excoriated Gaddafi in 2011, highlighting his human rights abuses and insisting he must be removed from power to protect the Libyan people, the Trump administration is now pointing to the repressive policies of Bashar al-Assad in Syria and warning his regime will soon come to an end — all in the name of protecting Syrian civilians.

But as the U.S. and its allies fail to produce legal grounds for their recent air strike — let alone provide concrete evidence to back up their claims Assad was responsible for a deadly chemical attack last week — more hazards of invading foreign countries and removing their heads of state are emerging.

This week, new findings revealed another unintended consequence of “humanitarian intervention”: the growth of the human slave trade.

The Guardian reports that while “violence, extortion and slave labor” have been a reality for people trafficked through Libya in the past, the slave trade has recently expanded. Today, people are selling other human beings out in the open.

“The latest reports of ‘slave markets’ for migrants can be added to a long list of outrages [in Libya],” said Mohammed Abdiker, head of operation and emergencies for the International Office of Migration, an intergovernmental organization that promotes “humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all,” according to its website. “The situation is dire. The more IOM engages inside Libya, the more we learn that it is a vale of tears for all too many migrants.”
The North African country is commonly used as a point of exit for refugees fleeing other parts of the continent. But since Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011, “the vast, sparsely populated country has slid into violent chaos and migrants with little cash and usually no papers are particularly vulnerable,” the Guardian explains.

One survivor from Senegal said he was passing through Libya from Niger with a group of other migrants attempting to flee their home countries. They had paid a smuggler to transport them via bus to the coast, where they would risk taking a boat to Europe. But rather than take them to the coast, the smuggler took them to a dusty lot in Sabha, Libya. According to Livia Manente, an IOM officer who interviews survivors, “their driver suddenly said middlemen had not passed on his fees and put his passengers up for sale.”

“Several other migrants confirmed his story, independently describing kinds of slave markets as well as kinds of private prisons all over in Libya,” she said, adding IOM Italy had confirmed similar stories from migrants landing in southern Italy.

The Senegalese survivor said he was taken to a makeshift prison, which the Guardian notes are common in Libya.

Those held inside are forced to work without pay, or on meager rations, and their captors regularly call family at home demanding a ransom. His captors asked for 300,000 west African francs (about £380), then sold him on to a larger jail where the demand doubled without explanation.

When migrants were held too long without having a ransom paid for them, they were taken away and killed. “Some wasted away on meager rations in unsanitary conditions, dying of hunger and disease, but overall numbers never fell,” the Guardian reported.

“If the number of migrants goes down, because of death or someone is ransomed, the kidnappers just go to the market and buy one,” Manente said.

Giuseppe Loprete, IOM Niger’s chief of mission, confirmed these disturbing reports. “It’s very clear they see themselves as being treated as slaves,” he said. He arranged for the repatriation of 1,500 migrants just in the first three months of this year and is concerned more stories and incidents will emerge as more migrants return from Libya.

“And conditions are worsening in Libya so I think we can also expect more in the coming months,” he added.

As the United States government continues to entertain regime change in Syria as a viable solution to the many crises in that country, it is becoming ever-more evident that ousting dictators — however detestable they may be — is not effective. Toppling Saddam Hussein led not only to the deaths of civilians and radicalization within the population, but also the rise of ISIS.

As Libya, once a beacon of stability in the region, continues to devolve in the fallout from the Western “humanitarian” intervention – and as human beings are dragged into emerging slave trades while rapes and kidnappings plague the population — it is increasingly obvious that further war will only create even further suffering in unforeseen ways.

New Report Shows How Hillary Clinton Sold Obama on Regime Change in Libya

We have tried not to take sides in the US Primaries campaigns to choose the parties' candidates in November's presidential election. We British get rather irate when Barack Obama or John Kerry starts lecturing us on how we should stay in the EU because while it may be in Washington's best interests for Britain to be in the EU, most of us feel it is not in the best interests of the British people.

We that in mind, it is perfectly understandable that U.S. voters get annoyed when British liberals start saying "You must not vote for Donald Trump, or voices from Britain's right say "You must not vote for Bernie Sanders. So, because this is a world news blog we have tried to report on Sanders and Trump from the perspective of amused onlookers watching the panic these two mavericks are causing for the political and media establishment.

The candidate we do make an exception on however is the truly horrifying Hillary Clinton. We have no compunction about lobbying against Hillary as responsible citizens of the world who put the interests of people in the USA, Europe and the third world, especially the third world because they struggle to take care of themselves, ahead of the interests of a global wealthy elite who profit from war and are quite prepared to use financial muscle to make sure corporate profit wins out over public interest.

So US voters, vote for who you like, but be warned about what you and the rest of the world are in for if this awful woman becomes your president.

A new in-depth report from The New York Times damns former Secretary of State to perdition for her role in committing the US government’s to involvement in the war in Libya. Previous reports show Clinton leading the push for the USA to enter what was a small, local war and overthrow former Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi, but this report with on-the-record comments numerous current and former Obama Administration officials offers a line by line account of how Hillary nagged Obama into getting involved.

The most prominent name cited is that of former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, who claimed that the decision to go to war in Libya was heavily influenced by Clinton. Gates says her input made the difference in a “51-49” decision that ultimately destroyed Libya, turning what had been Africa's most prosperous and civilised nation into a failed state with no coherent government, and allowed ISIS to gain a foothold in Africa.

The analysis supports the view that Hillary Clinton learned nothing from the Iraq War debacle. According to the NYT, “The lessons of the Libya experience have not tempered her more aggressive approach to international relations.”

Who can forget Hillary's infamous quote on the ignominious death of Gaddafi, "We came, we saw, he died". It is a sentence that exposes what a first crass bitch she is. Make no mistake, Hillary Clinton is the war candidate in 2016.

Another part of the report claims that after a meeting with Westernized Libyan exiles in what appears to be an eerie parallel to the Ahmed Chalabi con, Clinton became convinced that Libya could become a thriving democracy if Gaddafi was overthrown. She then worked tirelessly to ensure the US jumped into the war, pushing back against then-Defense Secretary Gates, National Security Advisor Tom Dolan, and Vice President Joe Biden, who wanted to stay out of the conflict. Hillary was obsessed with the idea of bombing the small nation (pop 5,000,000) which she probably thought was an easy win for the USA with allies France and the UK (the FUKUS axis) after the Bush era debacles of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gates even recalled telling President Barack Obama and others in on the Libya meetings that he and the Pentagon had more than enough responsibilities with the Iraq and Afghanistan missions, saying, “I think at one point I said, ‘Can I finish the two wars I’m already in before you guys go looking for a third one?’”

The answer was no, Hillary had OCD about war and bombing third world counties. Though there was no solid intelligence on what exactly Gaddafi would or would not do regarding the opposition, then-Secretary Clinton began aggressively lobbying other countries to support the war effort and help the rebels in Libya. Another Vietnam style quagmire quickly followed in Syria of course, and that trigger another flare up of hostilities in Iraq where the USA had been engaged for ten years when Libya kicked off.

UK Troops Set To Join Forces From USA and France In Libya

It has not been confirmed yet but we are hearing that one thousand British soldiers are preparing to deploy to Libya, with the UK government, the Pentagon and the government of France currently working out details of an intervention intended to stop the acvance of ISIS affiliated Islamic extremist groups on Libya's oil fields and strategically important refineries and ports on the Mediterranean coast.

It is not clear if this deployment is in addition to the 1000 British personnel reported to be in Libya in 'supporting roles' to one of the three rival groups claiming to be the legitimate government, or a contingent of combat troops in an escalation by the FUKUS axis of western involvement in the civil conflict that resulted from the ill - advised and incompetently managed bombing campaign to overthrow the Gadaffi regime.

Since the campaign led by France and the USA (Obama will join any war) which deposed the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya, under Gaddafi the wealthiest and most advanced nation in Africa) has largely collapsed. Its cities are in ruins and its economy no longer functions. Furthermore the failed state is now faced with a serious refugee crisis as economic migrants from sub Saharan Africa use the lawless land as a route to Europe where they hope that by posing as refugees from Syria they will be housed, paid social benefits and given western women. Libya has become home to a branch of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) estimated to be 3,000-strong.

"There is the risk that ISIS fighters could make the crossing, mixing in with refugees," French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Sunday.

Le Drian has been lobbying for military action, but conceded "everyone is aware of the danger of transferring to a new conflict in Libya the conflict in the Levant [Iraq and Syria] where we are starting to see some positive elements."

The Times (UK) reports that the 1,000 UK troops would be deployed as part of an Italian-led 6,000-strong formation to provide training to Libyan troops but that seems unlikely as Libya does not have a functioning military command. The rumor of further British involvement in Libya comes a day after it was announced a 12-strong UK military team has deployed to South Sudan as part of a UN peacekeeping mission there.
