Prime Minister Burnham Caves As Trump Says Chagos Deal Is Terrible

Andy Burnham is reviewing the Chagos Islands deal after Donald Trump said it was “terrible” in their first face-to-face meeting.

The Prime Minister said he was doing “everything possible to find a resolution to the issue”, opening the door to scrapping the deal he “inherited” from Sir Keir Starmer.

Mr Burnham reversed his position after a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in which the US president suggested he should review the 'ridiculous' agreement.

Trump has said in the past the UK agreement to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius is  “an act of gross stupidity” and that Andy Burnham is “going to be looking at it”.

Speaking at his first meeting with the UK Prime Minister on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the US president said the move to transfer ownership of the British Indian Ocean Territory was “ridiculous”, describing it as “a very important piece of real estate, militarily and strategically”.

It is often difficult to agree with Donald Trump but "terrible" is the right word to describe the deal which was brokered by 'Human Rights' shyster lawyers, all of them long term associates of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Hand the islands over to a country that only has a claim because we happened to administer them together during the empire, a country that has ties to China and then lease them back at an exorbitant rate we can't afford and at the same time, the actual people who lived there, the Chagossians, are left without a say. Terrible, one has to wonder what was in it for the lawyers who drafted the deal. 

The Government’s plans to cede sovereignty of the remote archipelago and then pay billions of pounds to lease back the joint UK-US military base on the largest island of Diego Garcia has been on hold since April in the face of opposition from the White House.

Asked by a reporter from The Daily Telegraph about Britain’s plans to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, Mr Trump said: “I don’t support it. I think it’s terrible. It was a terrible deal... strategically it’s very important.”

He added: “It’s amazing how strategic it is, and I think the Prime Minister is going to be looking at it”. Mr Burnham nodded in agreement and replied: “Yeah.”

It’s almost beyond parody that we’ve reached a point where Burnham needs a foreign leader to tell him not to give away British territory (seemingly against the wishes of the local population), and squander £35 billion of our money leasing a small part of it back. I’m glad there was someone at the table who was willing to stand up for the interests of the British taxpayer.

To lose one Defence Minister may be regarded as a misfortune, to lose two looks like carelessness!

 (Title paraphrased from an Oscar Wilde epigram.)

Early this morning today looked like being no worse than usual for Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Then came the news that a senior member of his government, Defence Secretary John Healey, had resigned. In a polite resignation letter Healey revealed that Starmer's recent talk of increasing defence spending and building up our depleted armed forces had just been the usual empty talk from an empty man. Tasked with producing a spending programme for rearmament the treasury, fifedom of Starmer's right hand woman Rachel Reeves, had been dodging the issue for over a year  

Healey's resignation letter accused the Prime Minister of failing to “meet the moment” over his long-delayed proposals to boost military spending and of rendering Britain incapable of defending itself. 

Well OK, at least Healey departed with some dignity, unlike the other recent resignation, Wes Streeting who flounced out like some wannabe diva, threatening to challenge Starmer for the Labour Party leadership before slamming the door behind him, high heels click - clacking on the pavement as he stomped off.

If that had been all the day would, by Starmer's standards, still not have been too bad. But Murphys law states that no matter how bad things are, they can always get worse. And they did.

Before even the ink had dried on the note Starmer penned to Healy thanking him for his service, the deputy Defence Minister Al Carns handed in his resignation. 

Former army officer Carns, who is being mentioned as a potential Labour leadership contender, accused the Prime Minister of “failing” the military by refusing to commit more money to the Defence Investment Plan (DIP).

He said: “We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it’s done. We are failing on both.

“I’ve spent my whole time in government making the case that Britain and NATO must prepare to defend our borders. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces.”

Carn’s resignation letter is more damning than Healey’s because it doesn’t just criticise the problems of underfunding of our defence forces but actually addresses the fact that those who work and contribute tax are in essence being ripped off and the country is extremely vulnerable and the people see not future for themselves.

Do these people not understand we have no money to spend on trivia like defending the realm. The government has to prioritise important things like sucking up to the EU, Net Zero, paying China's ally Mauritius to take the Chagos Islands off our hands, funding and housing 'asylum seekers', subsidising electric car owners and donating money to 'pride' events.

Thanks to the misguided economic and social policy over the past 40 years we have lost our entrepreneurs and we have less less taxpayers who just complain !!

If we start spending money on nonsense like defence how are we going to fund the welfare bill for those who are better off not working and how on earth can take defence spending away from the couple of hundred thousand migrants (that we know about,) arriving each year . God help those poor fighting aged males who arrive in small, inflatable boats each week ( day) since Keir smashed the gangs.

Trump Claims US Progress In Talks With New, More Reasonable Regime In Iran. Iran Denies All Knowledge Of Talks.

 US President Donald Trump today gave observers the impression that he is himself suffering from the legendary Trump Derangement Syndrome as he severed all links with reality in claiming he is making "great progress" in negotiations with a "new and more reasonable regime" in Iran, but again threatened to blow up Iranian power plants if a deal is not reached soon.

While America's erstwhile European allies clutch their pearls and mutter nervously about imposing regime change Trump knows there is no such thing s International Law. What he does not know apparently is that even a Tiger tries to avoid confronttion with a poionous snake. 

We’ve had regime change,” Trump said. “If you look already because the one regime was decimated, destroyed. They’re all dead. The next regime is mostly dead. And the third regime, we’re dealing with different people than anybody’s dealt with before. It’s a whole different group of people. So I would consider that regime change.” 

None of these claims are anywhere near true and suggest Trump has gone crazy. 

The problem with Trump's rhetoric is that while some senior figures have been killed the regime is still in place so his claim of having achieved regime change is no more valid than his claim to have obliterated Irans air and naval defences. 

Against this backdrop and reports that Washington has been negotiating with the “real powerbroker” in the regime, Western policy circles have concluded a new strongman has emerged in Tehran. All attention has turned to the obvious contender: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Iranian parliament and veteran of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – the regime’s ideological army. 

The problem is nobody outside Iran and few people inside the theocratic nation have any idea who leads that regime and what their attitude towards America and the west is. But in Iran, the obvious answer is rarely the right one. While the egotistical : Mohammed Bager Ghalibaf has been playing to the gallery, a far more sinister figure is reported to be pulling the strings: Ahmad Vahidi – the new IRGC commander-in-chief who is a Khamenei absolutist.

Unlike Ghalibaf, Vahidi has stayed out of the spotlight since the outbreak of war.  However independent reporters still inside Iran suggest he is a key cog in the regime’s chain of command and his survival is essential to its continuity and is likely to adopt polices that will produce a far more radical and extremist Islamic Republic that even people in the wider Islamic world dislike.Vahidi has unmatched experience and influence across the regime’s military, intelligence, and bureaucracy.

Western policy circles have concluded a new strongman has emerged in Tehran. But new stongman or no, a new threat and a further escalation of Iran's potentia;l threat to the west is emerging. On Wednesday, an unnamed Iranian military official was quoted as saying: “The Bab a-Mandeb Strait is among the most strategic straits in the world, and Iran has both the will and the capability to pose a fully credible threat against it.”

Entering conflict with Yemen-based Houthis in Bab al-Mandeb, which translates into English as Gate of Tears Strait may prove difficult for US military 

Strong winds, crosscurrents, reefs and shoals have made the Bab al-Mandeb Strait one of the most perilous of shipping chokepoints and that is without having to content with missile and artillery fire from Houthi guerillas .

The Gate of Tears – its Arabic translation – connects the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. It now has another threat in the form of Iranian-backed Houthi rebels spoiling to join the war in the Middle East.

On Saturday, the terror group – which has a history of holding trade hostage in Bab al-Mandeb by firing missiles at ships – boasted of launching ballistic missiles at Israel.

So it appears the U S President was talking his usual bollocks in claimimg progressin his talks with Iran, peace in the middle east is as far away as ever and probably further away that it was at this poni lst week.nA spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces’ Central Staff commented:
 
“Trump is an unstable and often deceitful individual who has inflicted enormous damage on the peoples of the world.
 
He has repeatedly threatened Iran with ground operations and the occupation of islands in the Persian Gulf. He is under the influence of the Mossad due to his past actions, making him a tool in the hands of the Zionist entity’s leadership.
 
He is considered one of the most dishonest world leaders, inconsistent in his positions, and therefore cannot be trusted. He has been given significant powers despite his short-sighted decisions, which have drawn the American military into deadly crises.
 
American troops are in a state of fear and retreat, resorting to civilian and service facilities in the region, yet remain vulnerable to attack.
 
The American leadership is far from the battlefield, while it demands steadfastness from its soldiers, while Trump demonstrates a contradiction between threats, retreats, and calls for war, and then negotiations.
 
His policies have caused grave harm to the people of America, Europe, and countries around the world, especially in West Asia.
 
The only language he understands is force, and any threat of military action against Iran will be met with a decisive response, as his forces have long been prepared for such a scenario.
 
Any aggression or occupation will result in a humiliating defeat and heavy losses for the aggressors.
 
The American leadership must review Iran’s history and learn from the fate of all who have attempted to attack it, and not lure its troops into illusions that lead to their destruction.
 
The Iranian armed forces confirm their complete readiness to crush any possible attack and confidently await the moment of confrontation. “We stand with you, shoulder to shoulder.”

Which really sums up the position Trump has put himself and the western alliance in. At this stage no one knows how the war will end.

Here is the stark sad reality. A peaceful resolution now or in the future is not possible period. Either Trump finishes the job now or later there will be a far worse dilemma. Iran has never been, and never will be, willing to give up what it considers to be, its God given mission which includes the destruction of Israel. 

Israel knowing this will not risk letting this happen. In the meantime, the west will be target to the extent is assists Israel. Who is right, and who is wrong is not material to the discussion. Its a fight to the death. A zero sum game.

Obama and Biden lived in a fantasy world thinking diplomacy and reason would win out and the result was a more embolden, stronger and aggressive Iran (doing what it thinks it correct). Bottom line is: game on and whoever has the strongest will and determination will win. Right now the answer is unclear and Trmp's brain fog is never going to make it any crearer.

Military Experts Advising Trump Overlooked Iran's Mosquito Fleet - Taking Kargh Istand Is Not An Easy Option For Winning The War

The Telegraph today carried a story headlined: "The tiny island of Kharg that could let Trump beat Iran without sending a single soldier," claiming to offer insight into the latest thinking of 'experts' on how to progress the war on Iran. Like most war stories it took a simplistic view of what could be a near impoosible task. 

When serious export of Iranian oil started it was soon met by a problem. Iran’s coast is relatively shallow. Big tankers have a lot of draft. It was thus troublesome for Iran’s oil industry to deliver large loads of crude oil to big ships.

The answer to this problem was Kargh Island a tiny, flat, featureless islet surrounded by  deep water, some 15 miles off the Iranian coast. The government in Tehran, incollaboration with the oil companies built a termina able to load very large crude oil carrying vessels on the island. Today  90% of all Iran's petroleum products are handled by the Kargh Island Terminal.

For decades dimwit American politicians and military leaders have dreamed of fetching Kharg to thereby get control over Iran’s oil production: In an interview with a British newspaper back in 1988, an up-and-coming New York property mogul named Donald Trump was asked about his plans for the future. 

Never one to be lost for words he, boasted that he might one day run for president and vowed to win back “respect” for America on the world stage. He also had stern words for  the theocratic regime of Iran’s Islamic Republic, already a sworn enemy of America in the wake of the 1979 US hostage crisis.

“They’ve been beating us psychologically, making us look a bunch of fools,” Trump told The Guardian. “One bullet shot at one of our men or ships, and I’d do a number on Kharg Island. I’d go in and take it.”

Several figures of the current Trump administration have likewise opined that the taking of Kharg would give the U.S. a hold over all Iranian oil exports – now and in future.

However  the American leadership is skirting some serious optic problems which have  been vastly underplayed in US & western media, and so are effectively unknown to the population at large. These factors point to a long war, energy shortage and a global economic crisis.

 JCOS (Joint Chiefs of Staff) Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, yesterday emphasized three U.S. objectives in Iran: destroying Iranian ballistic missile and drone capability, striking ‘deeper into Iran’s military and industrial base’ and continuing to decimate Iran’s navy to allow maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.”
 
Aside from Iran’s Navy being far from the sole obstacle effecting Hormuz Maritime traffic, the Pentagon must eventually deal with the presumed destruction of all or most of their regional bases – which, again, few people outside government and the military know anything about. 

Kargh Island for example is too close to the mainland to be taken easily, modern shore based artillery located many miles back from the coast could easily reach ships attacking the island. Hormuz, already partly blocked by Irainan Navy ships sunk by US and Israeli bombing raids is effectivly closed to shipping from hostile states and could remain so for many months, causing prolonged chaos in the global economy Iran was never going to be a pushover.

And in both cases there is an even more deadly threat to the naval personnel manning the ships inolved in leading the allied advance. Iran has developed, or rather revived, an unconventional naval strategy known as the “Mosquito Fleet.” Instead of relying only on large warships to defend its waters, Tehran has focused on builing a fleet of hundreds — possibly thousands — of small, high-speed attack boats designed to challenge much larger naval forces in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. 

The term “Mosquito Fleet” refers to a large number of small, fast, heavily armed boats operated mainly by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC Navy). These boats are: Equipped with anti-ship missiles, Capable of speeds between 50 to 110 knots (approximately 90–200 km/h,), Small enough to maneuver quickly and approach larger vessels. Because of their speed and size, they can rapidly close in on larger warships, launch missiles, and retreat before facing a full counterattack. 

Iran’s Mosquito Fleet strategy is specifically designed to exploit the vulnerabilities of a billion-dollar carrier like the USS Abraham Lincoln. Shore based Iranian commanders conceal large groups of these fast-attack crafts in civilian fishing ports, specialised underground maritime bases carved into the Persian Gulf cliffs, and even simple truck trailers.
 
These vessels can be wheeled out, launched from a random beach, and begin attacking a tanker or destroyer within minutes. The U.S. cannot target every garage along a 1,300-mile coastline. Iran possesses thousands of these boats, many of which are now unmanned kamikaze vessels packed with hundreds of kilograms of explosives.
 
While a U.S. destroyer’s Aegis combat system may be one of the best in the world, it has its limits. If 50 boats attack from 50 different directions simultaneously, the ship’s guns simply can’t pivot quickly enough to engage them all. It only takes one boat getting through to cause a USS Cole-type disaster.
 
A U.S. Hellfire missile costs approximately $150,000, while a single Iranian speedboat may only cost about $20,000. If the U.S. has to fire 500 missiles to stop a swarm, they end up spending millions to destroy plastic boats. Iran can produce these vessels faster than the U.S. can manufacture high-tech missiles.
 
Trump and Wright both made high-profile claims regarding naval escorts and unblocking the Strait of Hormuz. When Wright deleted his post and the Navy confirmed that no escort occurred, it sent a clear signal to the markets and Tehran that the U.S. is currently unable or unwilling to enter the kill zone of the narrow straits.

Military Analysis Say Prepare For Long War As Iran Proves To Be No Pushover

 

On Day 5 of the Trump's ridiculously named Operation Epic Furry which was conceived to prepare Iran for regime change, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared the US is "winning,"  signalling that additional American forces are ready to be deployed to Iran and vowing Washington will take "all the time it needs" to secure 'victory'. But but a major public backlash against the campaign is gathering momentum rapidly as the reality that Iran is proving no pushover (as this blog warned last year) is beginning to dawn on the American population.

However not everybody is confident of a quick resolution. In a statement released earlier this week Russian military leaders warned that the conflict in Iran could extend over a prolonged period, reflecting concerns about the ongoing U.S.-Israeli military actions and Iran's determined response. 

President Trump himself suggested an open-ended timeline, but expressed that four or five weeks should do the job. Americans, however, might recall similar pledges were made at the start of the Iraq war, which ended up being a 20 year occupation and bloody quagmire. Recall that in 2002, Bush's then Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld declared of impending Iraq operations: "Five days or five weeks or five months, but it certainly isn't going to last any longer than that...It won't be a World War III." With that in mind, Hegseth for the first time Wednesday suggested up to eight weeks.

Iranian state media is reporting that the death toll from U.S.-Israeli strikes has climbed to at least 1,045. US losses stand at (at least) six service members killed, with several critically wounded, but CENTCOM has yet to issue a new Wednesday casualty update. It also announced that a planned late-night ceremony in Tehran honoring Iran’s slain supreme leader was abruptly postponed, officially due to "logistical issues".

The problem is US government and military leaders in The Pentagon did not think though the attack properly. They assumed a quick campaign of air strikes to soften up the Iranians, then the ever aggressive Kurds in northern Iran being activated to commit suicide against the Iran's Republican guard, and with the theocratic regimes best troops otherwise occupied a surprise incursion by Israel's IDF to take Tehran and game over. 

Well that's my guess, but if it's anywhere near right the Americans did not factor into their plan the Strait of Hormuz. 

Some 20% of the global supplies of oil, LPG and fertilizers have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had long announced that the Strait would be closed if the country would come under attack. It has held to its promise and made American claims to have opened Hormuz look ridiculous. A few small ships have since tried to pass through the Strait but were stopped by Iranian strike impacts. Ship insurance companies have stopped to provide cover for any passage of the Strait.

After occupying Iraq for 20 years in this century Washington appartently still does not understand the geographic facts of the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint. Here it is in picture form:

 

Given the geography of the area it is easy to see why even with more that half its navy subk or disabled Iran can effectively close the strait to large ship and keep it closed. The terriain on either side of the waterway is mountainous and barren, idea for mounting a stealth campaign using mobile artillery and drones to attack shipping, do the damage and then move quickly leaving western aircraft to bomb rocks and hills.

Trump is talking crazy nonsense when he floats ideas like providing US and NATO warships to escort commercial vessels through the strait? Even crazier stuff like US boots on the ground when anyone with the slightest understanding of US force levels in the region know it would take half a year of build-up to make that even a remote possibility?  

Well, we can assume everyone in the Administration and the Pentagon are a bunch of idiots who leap before looking. This view is compatible with the delusions of a certain population that is victim to a particular mass psychogenic illness. They find this view comforting since it means that simply changing which team has the ball in the US political show will fix everything.
 
Or we could assume that the Administration never really intended things to turn into a shooting war and the whole naval and air power buildup was just a bluff to add leverage to imperial bluster. But then something happened and the bluff was called. But who called it? Not the Iranians, of course. I think it is fairly obvious who forced the Empire’s hand, but I will leave that as a question for discussion. I’ll just say that it is a really bad idea to bluff like that when you are partnered with the very most psychotic of psychopaths. 

We Boggart Bloggers are not seeing any viable way for the West to engage in a land war against Iran. Based on the adage that a ship cannot beat a fort and that air-only campaigns don’t win wars it then the decisive means comes down to economics and by close association logistics. The West was convinced that economic means we’re going to crush Russia, it has proven to be a failure. Unless someone can show how Iran can be defeated via economic means, when Iran's biggest customer for its oil and produce is China there is no way for Iraq to be defeated quickly.That said, Iran cannot defeat the West. It looks like becoming a long war as some of Trump's military experts predicted

 Israel could be the key, via air strikes. However air strikes can have a significantly greater affect on Israel’s (and the West’s) ability to wage war on Iran.

Individual battles are great for conversation pieces but the true objective is the war. Russia has shown that the West is incapable of militarily defeating a true opponent; and for the economic angle it is the same (Iran has weathered and adjusted to economic forces against it). Strategy matters. 

Support from Russia and China is there as needed to win the war , logistics, strategy and intelligence. Unlike with Syria, Iran WILL accept support.  Assad’s mistake was that he thought he could get back into good graces of the West and feared that having any significant support from Russia would negatively affect that pursuit- Assad, educated in an elite English school had too much of a Western brain, a problem he shares with US and European leaders who simply do not understand the fanatical mindset of Islamists.

Did Trump Really Endorse Starmer's Chagos Giveaway Or Was He Just Stalling

 

Mainstream media' latest fake news frenzy got under way yesterday with hysterical reports that President Trump had flipped his position on UK Prime Minister Starmer's deal to give away The British Indian Ocean Territory (The Chagos Islands,) to Mauritius and then rent it back from them. Given the strategic importance of Diego Garcia, the biggest island in the Chagos archipelago, Trump was right to describe the deal as an act of gorss stupidity. 

As usual the TDS sufferers are quick to criticise, slow to read or listen, analyze and understand. Donald Trump did not actually express support for Starmer's Chagos deal. The American diplomatic (and correct,) position on Chagos is that the deal is a matter for the UK government, although the US has a vested interest in what happens. 

Trump has simply explained what he will do if it all goes pear shaped. As things stand right now it looks as if Starmer  may no longer be in a position to force the deal through parliament if they have decided to park it up until after the May elections.

Starmer’s treasonous handover of the Chagos Islands cannot be done without the express permission of the US government, apparently because of the 60-year-old treaty between the UK and US. Also, Trump may not have the authority to abrogate a treaty without consulting Congress. And right now, with tensions rising between the USA and Iran's Islamic theocracy, it looks as if the Diego Garcia base has never been more important for the west.

After former MP Andrew Bridgen’s astonishing revelations on X (also reproduced below)about the Chagos Fraud, thanks to a heroic whistleblower from Scotland Yard, I wonder what Starmer & his Trilateral Commission cronies offered Trump for his sudden U-turn. Surely not money, since Trump is already a billionaire and Starmer is so tight fisted he evel let's other blokes buy his wife's sexy knickers for her. Greenland perhaps?

 

 

I think we should reserve judgement and think about what Trump actually said. For me the key phrase was “it’s the best deal he could make.”

Donny then went on to say that the USA would not hesitate to step in at any time if Washington thought US interests are threatened. None of this is saying, “it’s a great deal for everyone concerned,” but more like: “C’mon guys, its a lousy deal but this is Starmer we’re talking about. What did you expect?”

It sounded to me like stalling until we find out if Starmer is still going to be Prime Minister by the end of this month. Or the case may be that US diplomats have advised Trump to back off until the Mandelson business has blown over, I mean if you’re going to kick a supposed ally while he’s down don’t do it when the world is watching.

With the extent of Epstein’s and Mandy’s links to China now coming to light we might have a long wait before the situation is finally clear.
