EU To Dump Planned Ban On Internal Comustion Engine Cars - Another Nail In The Coffin Of Net Zero

The European Union (EU) has today announced it will abandon plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, according to EU lawmaker Manfred Weber, president of the European People’s Party. It’s a major shift from the bloc’s previous committment to phase out combustion engines entirely by 2035, after recent rumours that the ban might be pushed to 2040.

Instead of a full ban on the sale of new ICE vehicles, car manufacturers will now face a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 90% for new cars from 2035 onwards, rather than 100%. There will also be no mandatory 100% target from 2040, Weber told German tabloid Bild.

Weber said this decision ensures that petrol and diesel engines currently manufactured in Germany may continue to be produced and sold.  This will save tens of thousands of jobs in the automotive sector.

EU governments such as Germany and Italy, and carmakers, including Volkswagen, Renault, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Stellantis, had been lobbying for more flexible rules,” he added. “This sends a strong signal to the entire automotive industry.”

It also sends a strong message to Britain's leading eco-nutter, the Minister fot Net Zero Ed Miliband and to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, both of whom had made their ambition for UK to 'lead the world to Net Zero' the foundation on which they built their future career plans. Since around the time Labour was elected it has been clear that Net Zero and the whole climate catastrophy scam was in a state of collapse as the pseudo science on which it is bssed was exposed as completely fabricated.

Who would have thought that we would be thanking the Germans and the Italians for an outbreak of common sense but, notwithstanding that, this is without any shadow of a doubt the best news of 2025. The ridiculous EV targets, together with the threatened fines for non achievement (none of which have ever been paid by the motor industry in spite of no targets having been met), were commercial suicide to anyone with half a brain.

Ed Milliband’s mad plans will now have to be abandoned and, as a result, we will all be richer, warmer and better fed. The reaction of the eco Nazis will be the usual cries of impending Armageddon but, at long last, we can now look forward to the return of some sanity (and possibly Ed Milliband’s early departure which would be the icing on the cake).

Net-zero was only ever an ambition  based on flawed estimates  of how the transition away from hydrocarbons to a totally electrically powered industrial, commerial and domestic system could be delivered. The mathematical modellers who formulated the estimates completely failed ti consider how we would generate and distribute the vastly increased amount of electricity that would be needed to meet demand.

Counries outside the UK have moved on from wind turbines which were never reliable and certainly not net-zero) they are also realising that bankrupting your economies while achieving absolutely nothing is just a waste of £$€billions.

The core UK energy plan for replacing hydrocarbons will have to be nuclear (mini and micro NOT large systems) for electricity and gas for the economy the country and industries. Now that we have emerging mini nuclear there is no point buying more uneconomc and unreliable wind turbines from China. We can also avoid spending billions on unnecessay infrastructure (that is not net-zero either).

Once again the UK is trailing the field by a long way, having hamstrung ourselves by allowing 'woke' ideologues to dictate energy policy. Even the  EU, mired as ever in bureaucracy is ahead of us. Amazingly they have finally taken a common sense approach.

The UK  economy is now in an recession, what do you think will happen when Millibrain demolishes our industries like the car industry (our biggest export to the EU and US). 2028 will start a full blown economic collapse as we lose nearly a million jobs.
