UK Households shell out more than £500m to switch off wind turbines

Rachel Millard, Daily Telegraph, 9 May 2022

The cost of switching off wind turbines jumped to a record last year as the UK’s cable network and storage capacity struggled to keep up with the amount of electricity generated. Bill-payers were forced to shell out £507m last year alone to cover the costs of switching off turbines when it is too windy for the grid to handle and bringing on gas supplies instead. It is a 70pc jump on a year ago, according to the consultancy LCP, which calculated the figures.

Turbines are asked to turn off if they are generating more electricity than is needed locally at the time or the electricity grid can carry to other areas of demand. The total figure is mostly made up of the cost of procuring gas-fired and other supplies instead of using wind, with gas prices soaring since last August as a result of global shortages.

However, the figures highlight the complications of managing the electricity grid at a time of more varied sources of energy including more intermittent sources such as wind and solar power. It comes as soaring household energy bills mainly due to high gas costs have helped trigger the deepest cost of living squeeze in a generation. Continue reading >>>

Healthy young people are dying suddenly and unexpectedly from a mysterious syndrome - as doctors seek answers through a new national register

Blacklisted News, 9 May 2022

People aged under 40 are being urged to have their hearts checked because they may potentially be at risk of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

The syndrome, known as SADS, has been fatal for all kinds of people regardless of whether they maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle.

SADS is an 'umbrella term to describe unexpected deaths in young people', said The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, most commonly occurring in people under 40 years of age.

The US-based SADS Foundation has said that over half of the 4,000 annual SADS deaths of children, teens or young adults have one of the top two warning signs present.

Those signs include a family history of a SADS diagnosis or sudden unexplained death of a family member, and fainting or seizure during exercise, or when excited or startled, reported news.com.au.

French President Macron: “Vaccinate Everything That Can Be Vaccinated”

Robert Kogon, Brownstone Institute, 9 May 2022

n another sign that the campaign of C-19 vaccination in Europe is far from over, French President Emmanuel Macron suggested last week that the appropriate response to the crisis in France’s overstrained emergency healthcare services is to “vaccinate everything that can be vaccinated.”

“Vaccinate everything that can be vaccinated,” Macron said, “because we avoid the virus. That’s the best response for unburdening the healthcare system and having a healthy population. So, we’re going to continue to work on this aspect.”

Macron’s word choice has attracted particular attention in the French Twittersphere and other online media, since he literally said that it was necessary to vaccinate “every-thing” (tout ce) and not, say, “everyone” (tous ceux) that can be vaccinated. But even if he had chosen to refer to people as people rather than things, the very idea of “having to vaccinate” people clearly denies them agency – to say nothing of any possibility of informed consent.

A clip of Macron’s remarks, which were broadcast on the French news channel BFM TV, is available here. They form part of more wide-ranging remarks, complete video of which does not appear to be available online.

But another extract posted on the BFM website appears to show the immediate lead-up to the “vaccinate everything” comment and suggests that Macron was responding to a question, more precisely, about whether reintegrating hospital staff who were suspended for having refused to get vaccinated against Covid-19 might help to address staffing shortages in French emergency rooms ...
