The US Government Plans to Genetically Engineer Plants to Spy on People

The Daily Stirrer has always believed scientists are insane, the ideas they throw up get whackier as time goes by. And they always, ALWAYS, are more concerned with showing off how clever their science is than with thinking about its less welcome consequences. One of the most fashionable (and therefore most attractive to science wankers,) areas of research currently is Genetic Modification. Potatoes have had their DNA sliced with genes from a shrimp to give is prawn cocktail flavoured chips,rs food crops have had their DNA tweaked so they are not harmed by herbicidal pesticides, thus wiping out pollinating insects so the crops fail just as surely as if they had been eaten by caterpillars.

And these entirely predictable consequences are always completely unforeseen by scientists, who dismiss the questions of non scientists who can actually see what's staring them in the fucking face by saying, "You're not a scientist so you can't understand how science works."

The answer to that of course is "Maybe not, but we can see how your pesticides are working."

The latest example of whako science is funded by DARPA, the people who brought you the experiment in training soldiers to kill goats by staring at them. These people are now genetically engineering plants to spy on us.

The government’s newest surveillance program will use plants as instruments of data collection, according to a new report from the military’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The program is specifically intended to assist operatives on the battlefield. The project, named Advanced Plant Technologies (APT), seeks to turn plants into next-generation surveillance technology.

In a statement, the agency said:

“The program will pursue technologies to engineer robust, plant-based sensors that are self-sustaining in their environment and can be remotely monitored using existing hardware…detect[ing] the presence of certain chemicals, pathogens, radiation, and even electromagnetic signals.”

DARPA will use gene-editing techniques to reconfigure plants to make them capable of reacting to certain types of stimuli in the environment. These plant-based sensors are self-sustaining and will be remotely monitored by the government agency. While the program will affect the plants’ genomes, it will not alter their ability to thrive in their natural environments.

“Plants are highly attuned to their environments and naturally manifest physiological responses to basic stimuli such as light and temperature, but also in some cases to touch, chemicals, pests, and pathogens,” said APT program manager Blake Bextine in the agency’s press release.

“Emerging molecular and modeling techniques may make it possible to reprogram these detection and reporting capabilities for a wide range of stimuli, which would not only open up new intelligence streams, but also reduce the personnel risks and costs associated with traditional sensors.”

DARPA, sometimes called the Pentagon’s Brain, has long been known for developing innovative but arguably dangerous technologies, including weaponized Agent Orange, covert data mining, anti-protesting weapons, and specially trained war mercenaries. With regard specifically to surveillance and data collection, DARPA has collaborated with the NSA to monitor video game players, developed biosurveillance tools, produced the notorious Total Information Awareness system. That system was responsible for the NSA’s PRISM program, which violated the civil liberties of millions of Americans.

These programs all started under the auspices of benevolent innovation. Once again, we see the complex dynamic between facilitating national security and preserving civil liberties, as one can easily question whether these plant censors could be used for domestic data collection or if they could be modified for other means.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which has acted as a sort of de facto technological watchdog over government and corporate programs, has previously issued critical statements regarding DARPA and other government agencies like the NSA. In one instance, they listed several questions for researchers exploring new and potentially dangerous technologies, including considerations about their security and whether or not they can be exploited. They concluded:

“To be clear, we’re not saying that researchers should stop innovating in cases where the answers to those questions are more pessimistic. Rather, we’re saying that they may want to take precautions proportional to the risk.”

They have urged experts in the field “to fully think through the ramifications of new research as it’s conducted.”

When it comes to developing new forms of surveillance, if we can be certain of anything, it’s that the government will not voluntarily relinquish its self-appointed power to monitor its citizens — so vigilance on everyone’s behalf is necessary.

Saudi Royal Family Members Involved In Child Sex Slave Trade

Since the disappearance of four year old Madeline McCann, the daughter of a British couple on holiday in Portugal in 2007 many people have believed the little girl was kidnapped and sold to Arab human traffickers / slave traders. Such people have been dismissed as conspiracy theorists. Though there is absolutely no evidence to support another theory that the girl's parents were somehow involved in her disappearance, they have deservedly been excoriated for leaving three very young children sleeping in an unsecured apartment as they sat eating and drinking with friends fifty yards away.

While this blog holds the view that it is now unlikely the world will ever know what happened to Madeline we do not subscribe to any of the theories. The re - emergence of a slave trade across the Mediterranean since 2000 however, does make kidnap theories more feasible, especially when those profiting from the trade have connections powerful enough to make evidence and witnesses disappear.

And we should not forget that Saudi Arabia, where public executions by stoning and beheading are still common, where a wife or daughter who disobeyes her husband or father and where it is socially acceptable to keep slaves (just don't tell agents of western governments,) is part of a different world to the one we citizens of liberal democracies inhabit.

Tier 3 countries are “countries whose governments do not fully comply with the maximum standards and are not making significant efforts to do so.” In 2006, 2007 and 2008 Reports, the US State Department continues to designate Saudi Arabia as a Tier 3 country.

Could Italy's Banking Crisis Drag Down Mario Draghi?

The latest banking crisis in Italy risks focusing scrutiny on the leadership of both the Bank of Italy and Italy’s financial markets regulator Consob. The decision to give the central bank’s current Chairman Ignazio Visco a fresh six-year mandate despite his having presided over one of the worst banking crises in living memory (and as Italy usually has a banking crisis every two days, that's an achievement, has started a tug-of-war between political parties and the president, who makes the ultimate decision on who to appoint as central bank chief.


The first to point the finger was Italy’s former premier Matteo Renzi, who, in an effort to distract from his own party’s part in the collapse of Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) perhaps, called into question the supervisory role of both the Bank of Italy and Consob during Italy’s banking crisis.


Silvio Berlusconi, a key player in the center-right coalition whose party came out on top in recent elections in Sicily, was next to join the fray. “The Bank of Italy did not exercise the control that was expected of it,” he told reporters in Brussels in response to a pointed question about Visco.


As the controversy grows, it risks drawing the role of Visco’s predecessor, current ECB President Mario Draghi, into the spotlight. Many of the key events that helped pave the way to Italy’s current crisis took place during his mandate as governor of Italy’s central bank. And now the skeletons are beginning to crawl out of the closet.


It was recently revealed in a Milan court case that in 2010 Italy’s central bank, run by Draghi, knew that MPS’ management had papered over a loss of almost $500 million in 2010 and failed to report it. It’s not the magnitude of the loss that matters, but how it was done and who knew what and when. Bloomberg:


    A 2010 report from the Bank of Italy … shows inspectors were aware that a 2008 trade struck with Deutsche Bank AG was the mirror image of an earlier deal Monte dei Paschi had with the German lender. The Italian bank was losing about €370 million ($431 million) on the earlier transaction, dubbed Santorini, as of December 2008. The new trade posted a gain of roughly the same amount and allowed losses to be spread out over a longer period, the document shows.


One of the main reasons was to hide the losses racked up from MPS’s purchase in late 2007 of Banca Antonveneta, a mid-sized Padova-based bank. This still-opaque deal is arguably the most important banking scandal in Italy of the last ten years, and it directly paved the way to the collapse of MPS.


In its quest for growth at any price, MPS paid €10 billion for Antonveneta, over 50% more than the €6.6 billion Spanish lender Banco Santander had paid just months prior as part of its joint acquisition (with Royal Bank Scotland and Belgian bank Fortis) of Dutch giant ABN Amro. Santander was happy to hold on to the Brazilian side of ABN Amro’s business while hastily disposing of the Italian “assets.”


For Monte dei Paschi it was an ill-timed disaster, just as the purchase of ABM Amro’s disparate other parts had been for Royal Bank of Scotland and Fortis, both of which would end up receiving taxpayer-funded bailouts to stay alive once the post-Lehman hangover hit Europe.

In Escalating War Of Words, Saudi Crown Prince Calls Iran's Ayatollah "New Hitler Of The Middle East"

Saudi Arabia's powerful, and controversial, 32-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as we warned earlier in the year when he was elevated to his currrent status, has in a few months has made more local (and foreign) enemies than most of his predecessors accumulated over a lifetime, appears to have decided he does not need to wait any longer for the final war that will cement the global supremacy of his particularly unpleasant brand of Islamic extremism.

In an interview with the New York Times' Thomas Friedman, which covered a wide range of topics including the recent power grab anti-corruption campaign, to Donald Trump, to the Saudi social and religious revolution, bin Salman (MbS to his friends,) called the Ayatollah Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran “the new Hitler of the Middle East". This signals his intention to escalate the war of words between the arch-rivals. For his part, Khamenei has referred to the House of Saud as an “accursed tree”, and Iranian officials have accused the kingdom of spreading terrorism.

MbS, who after the recent night of the long knives purge anti corruption campaign is also now the Saudi defense minister and holder of any other job he fancies, slapped down the ISIS card and suggested the Islamic Republic’s alleged expansion under Ayatollah Ali Khamenei needed to be confronted.

“But we learned from Europe that appeasement doesn’t work. We don’t want the new Hitler in Iran to repeat what happened in Europe in the Middle East,” the paper quoted him as saying.

As reported previously, tensions between Iran and the Saudi Kingdom were ratched up again this month when Lebanon’s Saudi-allied Prime Minister Saad Hariri resigned in a television broadcast from Riyadh, citing the influence of Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon and risks to his life. Hezbollah called the move an act of war engineered by Saudi authorities, an accusation they denied.

The NYT subtitled the Friedman interview "The crown prince has big plans to bring back a level of tolerance to his society", which is ironic considering MbS, a supporter of the most intolerant version of Islam, the fundamentalis Wahhabi sect, just rounded up most of his country's wealthiest and most liberal citizens and gave them an ultimatum: your money or your freedom. And speaking of extortions, the Crown Prince said that 95% of of suspects agree to a "cash settlement", adding that the public prosecutor expects govt to recover about "$100 billion in settlements."

Saudi Arabia desperately needs cash: with oil refusing to rise to its previous level of $100/barrel, Riyadh is hard-pressed to continue funding its ongoing war of aggression against neighboring Yemen, now in its third year. As happened in Syria where President Assad's forces, backed by Iran and Russia defied the terrorists of ISIS, a movement supplied by the USA and NATO and funded by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. So far Saudi Arabia's mercenaries have failed to to defeat the Iranian-aligned Houthi movement that seized broad swaths of the country.

Salman told the New York Times that the war was going in its favor and that its allies controlled 85% of Yemen’s territory. Which of course, is meaningless: the Houthis still retain the main population centers despite the war effort by a Saudi-led military coalition which receives intelligence and refueling for its warplanes by the United States.

Some 10,000 people have died in the conflict, largely thanks to weapons made in the US.

Ominously, Bin Salman said in May that the kingdom would make sure any future struggle between the two countries “is waged in Iran." Now that Israel is openly on the side of Saudi Arabia in the upcoming middle-east war, said Iran-based "struggle" may be imminent.

Iranian warships to head for Gulf of Mexico

In a move that can only be seen as a deliberate isult to the USA, the Iranian Navy will soon be sending a flotilla of warships to visit Latin America and the Gulf of Mexico, Iran's newly-appointed naval commander has said. The move will be a demonstration of the country’s ability to project power far beyond its shores.

In his first press conference in Tehran since being appointed, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said that Iranian naval forces will cross the Atlantic and stop over at friendly South American countries before flying the Iranian flag in the Gulf of Mexico, local media reported on Wednesday.

“Our fleet of warships will be sent to the Atlantic Ocean in the near future and will visit one of the friendly states in South America and the Gulf of Mexico,” Fars news agency quoted him as saying.

Earlier this month, former navy chief and now deputy commander of the Iranian Army Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that it was a crucial objective for the Iranian Navy to be able to project its power far beyond the shores of Iran. There is no apparent reason for Iran's navy to leave the Indian Ocean, but vessels were sent to join the Russian fleet off Syria at the height of hostilities there, and US ships have regularly sailed close to Iran's territorian waters in the Persian Gulf.

“Sailing in open waters between Europe and Americas should be the navy’s goal, which will be realized in the near future,” Sayyari declared.

Khanzadi also announced plans to revitalize the Iranian Navy’s hardware with upgraded vessels and helicopters, as well as a new ship and submarine fleet which will be unveiled within the next year. Khanzadi added that a new Peykan-class Separ (shield) missile-launching corvette would join the country’s Caspian Fleet next week, and that there are also plans for Navy to build an airport in the southern port city of Jask.

In 2014, Iran announced that it was sending its vessels to the Gulf of Mexico, located between the eastern coast of Mexico and the southern American states of Texas, Florida and Louisiana. The intention was to protest the constant US presence in the Persian Gulf, the Navy 5th fleet’s Bahrain base having occasionally led to confrontations.

In July, a US Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and another warship fired warning shots at the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats, which the IRGC described as “a provocative and unprofessional move”, before leaving the area. Several days earlier USS ‘Thunderbolt’ fired several warning shots from a heavy machine gun in response to an Iranian vessel’s “provocative actions,” according to Pentagon officials, but Iran claimed the American vessel had moved towards an Iranian naval ship and fired two shots in an attempt to intimidate the crew.

"They Went After The Women Who Came Forward" - Former Obama HHS Secretary Exposes The Clintons

The “post Weinstein," post sex world world in which we now find ourselves in,  dozens of prominent figures in showbusiness, politics, and the media across North America and Europe have been accused (often without any evidence being produced against them of a wide range of sexual attacks on women, ranging from full on rape and groping to simply making a slightly risque comments.

 After decades of society turning a blind eye to the excesses of the rich and famous, suddenly we have been drawn into a malestrom of moralism. And the great and good, having known about creeps like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Bill Cosby,  politician Michael Fallon, director Michael Winner and a host of others, have looked the other way until now.

Most remarkable cases of this 'liberal' selective sight and hearing have been those in which many celebs who have been voluble in their attacks on Donald Trump because he once said "pussy" were quite happy to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the vile crimed of exiled director and paedophile Roman Polanski, even campaigning for the pervert who fled to USA after being convicted of anally raping a twelve year old girl and are now, even as they compete with each other to condemn Weinstein, are part of an ongoing campaign to allow Polanski back into the USA.

The biggie however, the one who has escaped not only prison but any censure time and gain is the predator president Bill Clinton.

  From groping all the way to rape, powerful establishment figures are being outed as sexual predators across the country, with the mainstream media declaring that all accusers must, at least initially, be believed.

Amazingly, at the same time, mainstream media talking heads have either specifically ignored the numerous allegations against Clinton or actually claimed that his accusers are discredited and cannot be believed. (Keep in mind all other accusers are automatically assumed to be telling the truth.)

With that being said, it was only a matter of time before that dam broke as well and now, with a series of explosive comments by an Obama and Clinton ally, one can hope that Bill Clinton may finally be brought to justice with Hillary forever shamed for her role in attacking the women who came forward.

In an interview conducted on a CNN podcast by former Obama chief adviser David Axelrod, former Obama Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius opened up about the cover-up and subsequent attacks on the women who accused then President Clinton in the 1990’s.

“Not only did people look the other way, they actually went after the women who came forward and accused him, dragged them through the courts and trashed their lives” Sebelius stunningly detailed. Keep in mind this is a fact that the alternative media has reported on literally hundreds and hundreds of times while being attacked as right-wing conspiracy theorists for doing so.

“And so it doubled down on not only bad behavior but abusive behavior. And then people attacked the victims,” Sebelius continued.

Sebelius made clear that her criticism extends directly to Hillary Clinton herself who was widely known to be the driving force behind the attacks on her husbands accusers.

An article written about the podcast by CNN couldn’t hide from the fact that this is absolutely Hillary’s problem as well.

Sebelius extended her criticism to Hillary Clinton, and the Clinton White House for what she called a strategy of dismissing and besmirching the women who stepped forward - a pattern she said is being repeated today by alleged perpetrators of sexual assault - saying that the criticism of the former first lady and Secretary of State was “absolutely” fair.

Sebelius noted that the Clinton Administration’s response was being imitated, adding that “you can watch that same pattern repeat, It needs to end. It needs to be over.”

The comments came during a conversation with David Axelrod on the latest episode of “The Axe Files,” a podcast produced by the University of Chicago Institute of Politics and CNN.

Of course the democratic Party's rabidly left wing, anti-Trump network couldn’t simply report on Sebelius’s comments without also attacking Republicans who have seemingly done the exact thing that the network has defended the Clinton’s for doing.

Like Donna Brazile, Sebelius will be attacked by The Clinton Crime Syndicate’s army of media shills and then be pressured into backtracking a few days later when she is reminded of all the people (approaching 40 now I think,) who have died in mysterious circumstances after threatening to testify on Clinton crimes. The guy who committed suicide by shooting himself in the back, and the one who shot himself through the had TWICE spring to mind.

Regardless, the cat is out of the bag. Both Bill and Hillary Clinton (as well as the entire machine around them) actively and purposefully attacked the numerous women who accused Bill of everything from groping to rape.

But those of us to pay attention instead of blindly believing all the propaganda pumped out by CNN have known that for a long time.
