Forget The Recession, Some People Are Not feeling The Pinch

Some say the nations of the developed world are heading towards another crash followed by a recession. Some say we have been in recession since 2008 and only financial prestadigitation has created the illusion of any recovery.

We say that as far as the ordinary punters are concerned we have been in recession since 1991, with government and banks propping up failed economies by printing money and inflating asset values to underwrite their ruinous borrowing. But not everybody does badly when there is an economic downturn.

What Is All That War Aid Money Really being Used For

No matter how much money we throw at the third world, things never seem to imporove (image source)

The marketing hype accompanying wars becomes progressively more boring and predictable. Whenever a "coalition of the willing" of western governments and their rather unsavoury regional allies deploys military intervention, it is certain the USA will call for an international effort to help the poor and European Union will host or participate in a “donors’ conference”. These grotesque charades have become a feature of the Afghan campaign since 2001. When Gaza was bombed for three weeks in late 2008 and early 2009, the EU rushed to get involved. In Libya in 2011 The USA, France and the UK (The FUKUS axis) ganged up on little libya (OK, a vast land area but population 5 million counts as little against the millions of UK and France and at over 300 million population, the USA is in the big league in every respect (including their waistlines).

Do little countries like Libya, medieval backwaters like Yemen or strategically important but politicicaly insignificant tyrannies like Syria really threaten the security of the west? We think not. So why must the western nations alwayd be at war? Could it be that war is good for business, cruise missiles at a million dollars a pop, fuel for aircraft and tanks, munitions, uniforms, prostitutes ... all funded by the taxpayers. No wonder the money men like war.

And what of all that foreign aid doled out to the tyrants that do cooperate with the plundering of their nations resources by western corporations. Surely you did not think it went to feed and clothe the poor did you?

The Power of Positive

The Power of Positive
When I was in rehab learning to cope with the consequences of a brain haemorrhage (rehab is not just for those suffering from having too much fun for too long) well meaning but very serious little people would come up to my bed and say "you must be positive."

I was always positive, some days I was positive I would get better, other times I was positive I wanted to go home and die.

Positivity is an overrated quality. Misery is good, we all need misery to keep us grounded. What is so wrong with being negative after all we live in a negative universe, let loose a few atoms with positively charged protons instead of negatively charged electrons (aka anti - matter) and in a million years or so, two shakes of a comet's tail in cosmic terms, the Universe would have gone pffffht!

Sometimes all the positive crap really gets up my nostrils. Be cheerful, look on the bright side? Why? I am not against happiness per se its just that being a pragmatist I reckon that in order to know we are happy we have to experience unhappiness. And if we never knew we were happy, if we never had the hope that things could get better how depressing would that be?

Don't you hate it when people ask "is your glass half full or half empty?" People whose glass is always half full have an air of desperation, as if they are trying to cover a great void inside them. Think about it logically. Is your glass half full or half empty? You bought a drink, you drank and with luck enjoyed half of it. Stop fretting over what people think of you and enjoy the other half before it goes rancid. What good is half a glass of stale whatever to anybody? You can always get another drink if you want more when that is gone.

There, see what I mean. Your glass is not empty, your drink has simply relocated to where it can do most good.

Another one that winds me up is "it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." Bollocks! Anybody who says this in the hope of consoling a dumpee is obviously incapable of love and probably of experiencing any powerful emotion. Half the fun of falling in love in the anticipation of that glorious wallow in self pity that follows being dumped. Anybody who has loved truly, madly, deeply and been dumped will know the only cure is abject misery accompanied by large doses of strong drink. "I will never love again," wails the dumpee, "for I could never find another who is nearly so wonderful. And with that they throw themselves into bottle after bottle of beer / wine / vodka without ever stopping to ask if the glass is half full or half empty. The obligatory vow to withdraw from society and follow the celibate path of a hermit lasts just until the next time an attractive stranger makes eye contact and ventures a half smile.

Misery is like germs. Those never exposed to it do not build an immunity and so when their bubble is eventually burst they have nothing to cushion their fall.

In business too the line between positive thinking and delusion is drawn faint and fine. Is it more positive to say "we did not achieve the outcome we hoped for but many valuable lessons were learned," or "it was a cock up from start to finish." It should be simple of course, but whole libraries of serious little books have been written on the subject of positive thinking or the art of lying to ourselves. One such, dedicated to teaching us to model ourselves on "highly effective people" stresses the importance of always "positioning ourselves to take advantage of our opportunity." OK, here's a situation, its early evening and you just got out of work. You had a hell of a day and missed lunch. You pass a fast food restaurant and the smell of frying makes your mouth water. Do you position yourself to take advantage of an opportunity to consume a portion of minced lips and arseholes with onions and relish on a bread roll, or do you grab a burger?

OK so you are a corporate type and you are sitting consuming your portion of minced lips and arsehole and reflecting on your day. It was disappointing to miss out on that promotion. Do you think "I know my value and will resolve to market myself in the corporate environment more effectively in future." This is actually the attitude of a lost soul, somebody prepared to swallow all the corporate bullshit we are spoon-fed. The truly positive person would think "they can stuff their bloody buggering job up their corporate holes, I'd rather starve than swallow any more of their bullshit."

In short, people who try to place every experience in a positive context are afraid of facing reality. They hide their insecurities in a thin skin of conformist attitudes thus sacrificing their individuality. Sadly they also miss out on half of life's rich tapestry. Maybe they should seek counselling.

Please Don't Burn Our Shithouse Down

I think it is fair to sat we in the celtic fringes of Britain, northern England and the west country, Scotland, wales and Northern Ireland we never quite as besotted with Margaret Thatcher as our neighbours in the Anglo Saxon south east. While those Germanic folks loved having a bossy madam giving them orders, we celts are more independent. This enabled us to be more objective about what was going on. The Scientific Dictatorship

President Eisenhower warned against the dictatorship of a scientific elite in his farewell address in 1960. Authors like H G Wells and philosophers such as Bertrand Russell were predicting such a system if totalitarian global government was inevitable to maintain human progress late in the nineteenth century.

And now those with 'eyes to see and ears to hear' (as the Biblical phrase goes) can observe politicians in collaboration with the academic community and a cartel of big banks and corporations are moving the world in that direction. What did I tell you? Never trust a fahkin' scientist.

When a scientific dictatorship was first mooted over a century ago the great obstacle to "going beyond existing permissions" as supporters of global government coyly put it, in imposing authoritarian laws without having to seek the consent of voters was seen as the rights and freedoms enshrined in the US constitution.

Apparently those rights and freedoms are no longer seen as a problem because in February 2012 a group of American scientists called for the establishment of a global totalitarian government in which unelected academics would work alongside elected representatives to 'engineer compliance with new social and behavioural norms' the goal of which would be saving the planet from ecological disaster.

United Nations Warns Of A New Food Crisis

Environmental disasters and speculative investors are to blame for volatile food commodities markets, says UN's special adviser.

The world may be on the brink of a major new food crisis caused by environmental disasters and rampant market speculators, the UN was warned today at an emergency meeting on food price inflation.

The UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) meeting in Rome today was called last month after a heatwave and wildfires in Russia led to a draconian wheat export ban and food riots broke out in Mozambique, killing 13 people. But UN experts heard that pension and hedge funds, sovereign wealth funds and large banks who speculate on commodity markets may also be responsible for inflation in food prices being seen across all continents.

The Daily Stirrer has been warning of the consequences of food price inflation since we began publishing. Our economics expert John De Roe repeatedly outlined the effects a speculative bubble in food commodity futures was likely to have on the living standards of people in the developed world and the humanitarian disasters that were likely to unfold because of it in poor nations.

In addition to rising prices the effect on food supplies of climate chaos is adding to the plight of the hungry. Once again we have to say that at the root of the problem is over population. Until governments and supra national organisations like the UN understand that current agriculture and technology cannot support a global population nearing seven billion. Instead of G20 leaders blethering about a global economic policy and a global culture and all the rest of their one-world, utopian, oligarchic collectivist nonesense they have to talk about a global birth control policy. In the western nations we, at grassroots level, have a self imposed population control ethic thanks to materialism and self interest. Birth rates are falling in almost all the developed nations.

Somehow our leaders must find a way to overturn the conventional wisdom of ancient cultures that big families are wealth and show people with modern healthcare two or thee children per couple is enough to sustain any society and it is large families that keep people in poverty. It will not be an easy task but if the world leaders fail or try to duck the issue by talking about crackpot 'scientific' solutions we will have to embark on a controlled cull of surplus human beings. Starting with the world leaders.

The Age Time Bomb

The Daily Stirrer has warned many times of the various time bombs that are ticking in the basement of our bloated society. Forget climate change, it was a diversion, a phishing expedition by scientists and bureaucrats to see how much money they could persuade gullible and fear driven politicians to pump into expensive vanity projects the aim of which was not to save the planet but to win Nobel Prizes and other prestigious awards and "secure a place in history."

Climate change is a problem but it is not our biggest nor our most urgent.

The biggest problem is overpopulation, solve that and the climate will take care of itself.

Next on the list is ageing. Medical science expects to be thanked for curing or controlling many potentially fatal conditions enabling us to live longer. Unfortunately they have not cracked the problem of age induced infirmity. The burden of caring for the elderly infirm is straining the social infrastructure of developed societies.

The £388 billion cost includes that of social care, unpaid care by relatives and the medical bills for treating dementia.

The figure is expected to rise rapidly in the coming years but governments are woefully unprepared to meet the challenge, said the World Alzheimer Report 2010.

Experts at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and King's College London examined the cost of dementia care and found that, if it was a country, it would be the world's 18th biggest economy.

And if it was a company, it would be the world's biggest by annual revenue, way above Wal-Mart (£265.6 billion) and Exxon Mobil (£200 billion).

Campaigners already warned that the costs of caring for people with dementia are on the rise, mostly due to people living longer.

Dementia Costs Equal 1% Of World Economyem>In the UK at the moment according to figures quoted in a BBC documentary, The Young Ones, last week one in five of people over seventy needs either full time or part time care. In the 1980s and 90s the elderly infirm, those not able to live independently, were moved to municipal care homes. These were impersonal and bureaucratic so eventually the emphasis was shifted to one on once care in the home. While better for individuals this was enormously expensive for the taxpayers and also distorted the state of the employment situation by vastly expanding the proportion of people employed by the state as against those working in true revenue generating industries.

The nineteenth century social reformer William Cobbett referred in his writing to tax eaters. It is an appelation we would do well to reclaim. Reducing unemployment by appointing vast numbers of tax eaters. To do that is to merely massage the statistics. We are left then with a conundrum for the science lovers to choke on. How do we now stop people living so long they become a burden on society? Or more to the point what is being done to ensure that as people live longer they do not become a burden on society? If half the population are over a million years old and the other half are busy caring for them who is going to grow food, build houses, make machines etc.

Euthanasia is not going to play well with the voters so the only alternative is rather that governments continuing to promote a dependency culture to return to a social system in which people are not given unrealistic expectations.

Listen carefully to the climate change alarmists, pay the same kind of forensic attention to the virus alarmists, the terror alarmists and all the rest. Their scaremongering is always full of might and possibly and could and maybe. Their predictions are based on mathematical models not reality.

Mosquitos, Mad Scientists and Ethics

Scientists are talking about using genetically modified mosquitos to deliver vaccines. Vaccines and diseases at the same time? I suppose it is efficient at least.

Mad scientists are a fictional stereotype you might think, they exist in Bond films, pulp fiction anf B movies. Think again. A group of mad scientists have come up with a scheme to use genetically modified mosquitos with antigens in their saliva to eradicate illness by vaccinating the world by biting everybody.
Mad Japanese scientists have reaffirmed my faith in human collective insanity. Rather than world domination they are pursuing the goal of world vaccination. These nuts, as reported in the April issue of “Insect Molecular Biology”, claim they have developed a method of making mosquitoes into flying syringes full of vaccine.

The project involved adding an antigen (a compound that triggers an immune response) to a mosquito’s saliva. In theory when the new, antigen enriched mosquitoes select a tasty human for lunch, instead of infecting their dinner with malaria, yellow fever or a number of other diseases ranging from lethal to mildly inconvenient, the pesky insects will be inoculating the people they are dining on against those or other diseases.

Only a scientists would be unable to see at least a million of the flaws in this idea.
