France Plunged Into Chaos As Macrons Third Government Inside A Year Collapses Amid Multple Crises

France's National Assembly voted to collapse the government on Monday, ousting François Bayrou as prime minister by 364 votes to 194 in a confidence motion. President Emmanuel Macron has ignored calls for him to resign and  will not dissolve the assembly and call an election to solve  France’s political crisis.. Instead it was announced he will appoint a new prime minister “in the next few days.”

Mr Bayrou is expected to hand in his resignation on Tuesday, leaving Mr Macron scrambling to find the seventh prime minister of his presidency. The President's office said he “takes note” of the result and would appoint Mr Bayrou’s replacement “in the next few days”.

The move suggests the French president will continue to ignore growing calls to dissolve parliament, resign, and call a general election to vote in a new government. Instead he will try to appoint a consensus figure to pass a budget in the deeply divided national assembly according to most French political commentators.

However, there are serious doubts over whether any nominee will be able to pull together a working coalition.

The Socialists, who only command 66 seats in parliament, have offered to run the government at the risk of losing the support of the conservative Republicans.

Marine Le Pen, whose National Rally is the biggest single opposition party, urged Mr Macron to call fresh snap legislative elections to break the political deadlock on Monday evening, calling them “not an option but an obligation”.

But what has brought France to this dire state of affairs? The Cost of Living? Immigration? The Economy? Unemployment?

France has been facing economic meltdown for some time unless and the main reason Macron appointed Bayrou was due to belief that he could pull together enough support to pass an austerity budget and bring under control Eurozone’s worst deficit, set for 5.4 per cent of GDP this year, by Oct 15. This parlous state is a humiliating blow for a man once dubbed “the Mozart of finance”.

Meanwhile, revolt is brewing via a viral movement called “Bloquons Tout” (“Let’s Block Everything”) that aims to shut down France on Sept 10. A leaked Paris police note has warned of potential “violent actions, sabotage and operations against strategic sectors of the economy” in what instigators hope could kick off a fresh insurrection in the style of the “gilet jaune” (“yellow vest”) protests – this time against planned budget cuts.

Protesters have been discussing blocking train stations, picketing oil refineries and walking out of supermarkets without paying. “It’s a horizontal movement with no leader – everyone does what they want,” said an intelligence source, describing the anger as widespread with “meetings everywhere – in villages as well as big cities”.

“The images will not be pretty,” said one police official.

Britain is close to a similar state at the moment with civil unrest over immigration, concerns about the effect on the economy of a burgeoning welfare bill, weak, vacillating leadership, ideologically dogmatic policies like net zero damaging the economy, and now a political scandal which threatens to plunge the governing party into disarray. Germany has a lame duck government with small, extremist parties threatening to collapse the ruling coalition in order to push through policies that are deeply unpopular. Netherlands, Belgium and Spain are ruled by dysfunctional coalitions brokered by the EU in order to keep Eurosceptic, nationalist, right-of-centre parties out of power in definance of the popular vote.

Every western country is becoming ungovernable because the political class everywhere has been feigning blindness when the political shift to the right is mentioned and  nationalism in domestic politics, denying the threat of Islamism, and buying their populations off with totally unsustainable benefits. This is a vicious circle because the benefits make people not want to work and therefore more Islamists are required to enter each country.

Ironically, throughout Europe everybody, except for the people who sit in government, knows the status quo is unsustainable and that we have to change but no one appears to be willing to accept change when it affects them. As a  civilisation, we are deluded and selfish. Put very simply, we need growth to pay for our borrowing; to achieve growth we have to ease the burden of taxation; to be able to lessen the tax burden we have to pare back state spending in all areas except defence and education. We therefore have to cut the welfare budget and and reform pensions. There is no other real and effective policy.
