THE DEATH SPIRAL OF THE LIBERAL DEMOCRACIES

 

 

In nearly every European Union member state, public spending, and in particular spending on welfare and benefits, is accelerating at all levels, from municipalities and social insurance systems all the way up to the European Commission, while the economy of the private sector at best stagnates and its industrial core sectors visibly erode.

The economic imbalance, in which a contracting private sector is  unable to finance a continuously expanding state apparatus and the state has to plug the gap by continuous borrowing, is already  causing  in the bond markets.  Yields (real interest rates obtained when governments have to sell their bonds for less than face value, have been rising steadily for years, making the servicing of government debts increasingly expensive. As long as financing the needs of public  spending continues to grow under the ruling ideology of an all-encompassing state this financial burden will fuel the need for ever higher taxation and a destructive race among parties of government to squeeze taxpayers at every level. Such an irresponsible approach to financial polit can only result in economic chaos.

But it seems that like America's Democrats, European liberal leaders are prepared to throw away their citizens' prosperity for the sake of virtue signalling.

Naturally, when it comes to fleecing European taxpayers, the European Commission will be at the front from the starting signal. Brussels is currently preparing its seven-year budget framework, set to exceed €2 trillion beginning in 2028.

Apollo News recently reported that the European Parliament is even demanding a further 10 percent increase in this budget ceiling. Excess, wastefulness, and a complete detachment from economic reality are driving the EU’s relentless search for new sources of tax revenue.

To this end, Commission President Ursula von der Squeeze'em-til-the-pips-squeak commissioned the Center for Social and Economic Research (CASE) last year to produce a study examining the potential of a wealth tax across the entire EU. 

There is no point in any attempt at a “redistribution” policy, so long as the central redistribution mechanism which leads to an ever increasing wealth gap remains in place: an above zero inflation target.

THIS is the reverse robin hood, distributing wealth from the lower, middle, and upper middle class all the way to the top.

When “money” (or currency, rather) continually loses value (by design!), and “assets” increase in value, then the defining characteristic is how your wealth is split. The closer to the top of the food chain you are, the faster you get rich. This is by design, and nothing can stop it so long as we don’t have sound money with a zero inflation target.

The fiat money system and bank laws grant financiers like Larry Fink and the banks ways to leverage their wealth into multiples of what the capital investment really is. Obviously, the political machines running Europe are following suit but without oversight. The ability of government to borrow against future revenues allows almost infinite short-term revenues. And,  the exceptional power to change laws allows the politicos to think they MAKE the future by over spending revenues. 

They starve the golden egg-laying goose to allow more spending and when the health of the golden goose becomes questionable the bond markets apply rising interest rates. The politicos become tone deaf and resort to further starvation of the goose. 

Government refuses to take heed and instead resorts increasingly short-changing the food going to the golden-egg-laying goose. The goose lays fewer eggs and the government punishes the goose by reducing the quality of the food (reduction in the value of the currency). 

When that causes still fewer eggs, the government resorts to plucking the goose through wealth and inheritance taxes. No surprise, the goose produces even fewer eggs. Just watch what happens not just to cities like NYC but to whole countries around the world (Cuba, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, etc.) Total control over taxation by government ends up as self-indulgence by government that ultimately kills the goose. 

Only the USA is somewhat protected by its role as issuer of the dominant reserve currency. 
While the BRICS+ bloc have plans to engage in currency wars with the aim of promoting the Chinese Yuan as a reserve currency to rival the dollar such a project would take decades to make any serious impact on the balance of world trade

Because other nations will always need to buy dollars to settle international trades, US government agencies and commercial ventures can dictate prices.

And that is how the European Union and other nations like UK and Japan have thrown themselves into a death spiral. But with the governments of the EU and the rest of the developed world hooked on virtue signalling policies like Open Borders and Net Zero, the will to take those hard decisions that could break a nation out of the death sipn just does not exist.

Speaking during the final day of the Commons debate on this year's budget, Labour backbenchers demanded a U-turn on the controversial proposals fom last year's that prompted tractor protests in London and other cities by farmers.

Plans to introduce a 20% tax on farm estates worth more than £1m from April 2016 have drawn people from rural communities to London in their tens of thousands, with many fearing huge tax bills that would force small farms to sell up for good. Consequently Reeves has become the runaway winner of The Most Unpopular Politucian award

Higher Taxation, More Restriction Of Free Speech As Germany's Communist - Conservative Government Takes Charge

 

Over the past few years this blog has chronicled the efforts of Germany's far left political establishment to deny the democratic will of the people and in collaboration with the EU hierarchy in Brussels, keep the centre - right, Eurosceptic, anti - globalist AfD party its rightful place in government.

Now, despite their becoming the second largest party in the recent election, AfD have again ben shafted as the nominally conservative but politically Cultural Marxist CDU form a coalition with their erstwhile political opposites, the formerly centre left but now neo - Maoist SDP, supported by a rag bag of extremist, eco - nuts, and authoritarian fringe parties as they desperately try to cling to power.

The new government looks like being even more catastrophic for Germany than the previous one, which with its addiction to high tax and apparent distaste for business and profit turned the country from Europe's economic powerhouse into yet another EU economic basket case.

On his substack, A Plague Chronicle, German blogger Eugyppiys writes: 

The Federal Republic has boarded an express train to green socialist purgatory. There is no other way to describe what is happening here.

First, we had the shocking debt brake overhaul, via which the CDU and the SPD signalled their bizarre wish to reprise the hated politics of the traffic light, only in more extreme form. Among other things, this overhaul involved amending the constitution to include the goal of ‘climate neutrality’ by 2045. Leading greens are now hoping this amendment will open the way for litigious environmentalists to compel the further deindustrialisation of Germany over the coming two decades.

Then, as if to confirm the ongoing DDRification of the Federal Republic, the alleged Stasi collaborator and former leader of the Socialist Unity Party Gregor Grysi delivered the inaugural address to the 21st Bundestag.

Now the preliminary results of the coalition negotiations between the CDU, the Bavarian CSU and the Social Democrats are making their way into the press, and they are really a thing to behold.

In the run-up to the elections, all kinds of people told me that the CDU would take charge and we’d see a correction to the Right. The worst abuses of the traffic light would be put to bed, green politics would go on the back burner and the Government would begin to emphasise economic policy and migration restriction. It wouldn’t be totally satisfying, these people told me, but things would get better.

It is now safe to say that these people were retards and that they were totally and laughably wrong. What awaits us is not a political correction but rather the traffic light on speed. We are going to get an absolute witch’s brew of tax hikes, deficit spending, industrial subsidies and political repression. If even half of these plans are realised, the coming Government is going to make its predecessor look like a beacon of liberal freedom and fiscal responsibility. Germany is just one example within a Europe - wide trend: Europe is economically, culturally and spiritually bankrupt. Increasing debt, struggling economy, mass migration, low birth rates, insane policies and among the political leadership a general lack of ideas about how the problems could be solved.

Something in the continent broke, its hard to say when when, but somewhere between the end of World War 2 and the signing of the Maastricht treaty which turned a free trade and economic cooperation bloc of nations into a purely political entity, the European Union.

Destroying the small farmer: Another Policy From Starmer & Co That Echoes The Bolsheviks

 

Angered by Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves inheritance tax grab on their property, British farmers are planning a breakaway inheritance tax protest after the National Farmers’ Union (NFU), threatened with legal sanctions by the authoritarian government declined to back a mass demonstration in London on November 19th.

The NFU has urged people to stay away from the streets of London on the day of its planned lobby event, on which has been capped at 1,800 members.

Who wants to be a Millionaire presenter Jeremy Clarkson was among hundreds of farmers who had planned to travel to London to protest alongside the event on Nov 19. But the NFU wrote to members on Wednesday, saying only the 1,800 who had registered to attend its event at the Church House conference centre in Westminster should attend.

A separate group of farmers has now applied for permission to hold a protest march on the same day, and hopes to bring thousands to the city. The the protests, which a intended to have the same effect as farmers protests across Europe last year against a similar attack by EU officials on the farming industry, and which forced the EU to back down on punitive fuel taxes and 'green' regulations which would have forced many farmers to destroy half their livestock.

Farmers will have to pay inheritance tax on estates worth more than £1 million under changes, introduced in the Budget, which have been criticised as disastrous for family farms.

Nigel Farage accused Labour of trying to “destroy the family farm” with the tax raid.

There are ominous parallels between Labour's attack on independent farmers and the Bolsheviks’ destruction of millions of Russian kulaks almost 100 years ago. The kulaks were the richer peasants who fiercely opposed Bolshevik rule. They emerged as natural leaders in their village communities and represented a rival authority to the absolute power of the Marxist state.

The Soviet government began by increasing the taxes imposed on them and mounting a campaign of propaganda to vilify them as enemies of the people. They ended by wholesale expropriation of everything the kulaks owned, starvation, deportation to Siberia, imprisonment and execution.  It is doubtful SStarmer or any of his snivelling sidekicks would have the Testicular Fortitude to go that far, but their four months in power to date have shown unprecedented hostility towards farmers, rural communities and the white working class in general. And with four years and eight months to go who knows where it will end.

It’s impossible to say what will be the full effect of the removal of the protection of farmers from inheritance tax which has been government policy since 1976. But it is unlikely to be beneficial for family farms, rural communities, food production or the beauty of England’s remaining countryside, created and maintained by generations of the very people who are this government’s sights.

However, in view of a careless remark by one Labour MP that putting farms out of business would free up land for more important things gives us grounds to suspect this was a deliberate ploy by Labour to free up land for solar and wind farms, then will what’s left will be auctioned off to globalist corporations or the wealthy to receive green subsidies or tax breaks for 'rewilding? 

The sad fact is that we obviously need our farmers to produce food for our own people, but clearly Labour would rather we were entirely dependent on imports from the EU, maybe in an attempt to force us back into the EU. Starmer and Labour cannot be trusted to deliver on anything that would benefit the people of this country, they have their own  totalitarian, Marxist agenda. 

With luck Trump will really embarrass them in the coming months and years, to expose SStarmer and his party for what they really are, a far-left Marxist, socialist, selfish woke idiots who couldn’t organise a heavy drinking session in a fermentary! Just like the US, Britain needs fixing too, but Labour are going in the opposite direction to what is needed, and so need to be challenged on every ridiculous policy they come up with and ideally, removed from power before they completely ruin our country? 

How much damage has to be done before people wake up to the reality? They MUST be held to account for their lies, such as the emerging true costs of Net Zero which will ruin us all.

UK Farmers Threaten Shitfest Protests Over Labour Government's Attack On Their Industry

Before the election when Labour was campaigning as the low-tax, business friendly party, the then Shadow Environment Secretary Steve Reed reassured the Country Land and Business Association conference: “We have no intention of changing Agricultural Property Relief (an exemption on inheritance tax for farm property.”) He twice confirmed Labour wouldn’t alter the tax relief as the CLA’s president stressed it would “in a single swipe would take small farms out”…

Following the government's decision to renege on this pledge which was revealed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves in this weeks Budget, we hear farmers groups are already planning the kind of protests seen in EU nations last year over an EU decision to put 'Net Zero' ahead of food prouction and tax European farmers so heavily while imposing stringent restrictions on their activity many would be forced out of business.

We hear rapid efforts are currently underway to organise gilet-jaune-style protests among disparate farming groups on the back of Reeves’ budget measures, a camaingn similar to the protests last year that forced the EU to back down on plans to tax farmers. The National Farmers Union is already organising a protest rally in Westminster for Tuesday 19^th November.

One protest organiser told media representatives: “We haven’t seen this kind of anger in among farmers since the Countryside March.” Co-conspirators will remember the 400,000-strong rural protests back in 2002 which threatened to topple Blair…

Alongside an expected massive petition there are likely to be organised marches. One incensed farmer tells Guido:

“I look forward to bringing my tractor and other agricultural machinery to Whitehall, and maybe also to Labour’s conference in Liverpool next year. If Labour wants to close down family farming we’ll close down Labour first. They have lied through their teeth about supporting farmers and deserve to be held to account.”

Another says that this is “going to make food more expensive for everyone. Farming is already tough, and piling on these costs will force smaller farms out of business, which will mean fewer local options and higher prices at the store. People need to understand that when we struggle, the whole country feels it at the dinner table.” The CLA now estimates that capping APR at £1 million will affect 70,000 UK farms. The policy is predicted to have the effect of “damaging family businesses and destabilising food security.“ £1 million is a low estimate – huge farm conglomerates will be the only ones able to absorb theincreased costs of produing food.

Rural sources say if farmers and the public get their act together we should expect to see “buckets full of farmyard slurry getting dumped on parliament” before too long in a rerun of the shitfest protest staged by French farmers in Touloue last year. Reeves may come to regret this one…

Labour's Manifesto For Growth Will Only Grow Debt And Bureucracy

A week after taking over from the clueless Conservative government, the first policy moves we saw from Keir Statmer's Labour administration were a move to restore planning targets, a policy the Conservatives abandoned in 2021, and the creation of a National Wealth Fund that has so little money it will make no difference to anything. By contrast, the last four finance minister to take office after a long spell in opposition made big, bold reforms in their first few days. 

The blunt truth is that now, a hundred days into their tenure, and despite years of preparation,  Prime MinisterKeir Starmer, Chancellor Rachel Reeves and the rest of the government clearly haven't a clue. its obvious they don't even understand what Britain's problems are let alone how to go about solving them. 

When a party just been elected with a landslide majority, a new government has the opprtunity, during its honeymoon period, to seize the moment, and announce major changes in policy that will make a reshape the economy and bring about social change. We were told, perhaps slightly too often, that Starmer would deliver 'the change' Britain needed and Reeves would be an ambitious, hyperactive finance minister, assembling the most expert minds in the country to deliver growth, create new partnerships with industry and draw major global investors into a “stable” country, all driven by something called “securonomics”, whatever the heck that might mean. 

When politicians resort to talking about delivering change without being specific on what change they intend to deliver, it is always a bad sign.

So how’s that delivering change thing going? Not so well apparently. A few days ahead of her first budget, Reeves' plans have been thrown into disarray. Having already had to water down plans to tax the wealthy, and increase Capital Gains Tax, only to find the rich people she hoped to fund 'change' from were leaving the country in droves while the 'eperts she had surrounded herself with had miscalculated the cost of state pensions increases by £100 million.

By the end of the week, we had the launch of the National Wealth Fund which, despite the presence of that financial titan Mark Carney, seemed to add up to £7bn of subsidised investments, a sum so tiny in relation to a £3 trillion economy as to make no difference to anything. And that was the entire package.

 

Like all socialist movements, Labour is utterly clueless when it comes to encouraging innovation and new business and both are vital to a healthy economy. Yet they bang on about the wealthy or even the super rich as some dastardly boil that must be lanced. Labour's political DNA is tax and spend. They will never acheive their idealistic goals with this mentality or by prioritising 'human rights' over economic efficiency. Compared with the two countries I referred to the UK isn´ t even in the race  

It's not really a hatred of the rich. Billionaires, multi-millionaires, wealthy virtue signalling actors and business owners get a total free pass and actually get feted. It's people in the low to middle categories who want to better themselves and put in extra effort to make some progress who get slapped down by socialist politics of envy. 

Enlightenment era philosopher Jean Jaques Rousseau said. "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains", In the late 17th C the enchained were the populace governed by tiny, unelected and self serving aristocracy - in France at least. Nowadays, it seems, people are "born free" but are STILL enchained - despite the enlightenment - this time by socialism [ a dogma often fulled by envy] and its dubious notions of, equality, diversity and inclusivity which together add up to the authoritarian goal of making everybody the same. Personal liberty and individual sovereignty have been eroded , community replaced by social division and equality is impoverishing all of us except the financial and political oligarchs who control a system which more closely resembled George Orwell's Big Brother regime than any socialist utopia dreamed of by the founders of the Labour and Trade Union movement.

Labour's equality laws are pernicious as are its tax polices to re distribute wealth & discourage work .

People haven never been born equal - they have different talents , motivations and skills and these differences need to be reflected in outcomes - although they do have obligations to their neighbours and equal opportunity fostered. When the early socialistds and lraders of the classical liberal movement talked of equality they meant equality of oportunity and equality before the law, not having equal outcomes forced on us by an all powerful, paternalistic state.
