When the web was stil quite young and I was - well not as old as I am now, nerds naively believed that Google was the greatest search tool because Google would find 1 million results for their searches whereas tools like Yahoo, Alta Vista and Excite might only find around 100k. But were Google's results valid?
At that time the corporate motto was "Don't Be Evil," to which I, because I had been involved with internetworking technologies long before the World Wide Web came along, would comment that they only published part of that motto, the full version being "Don't be evil, that's our job," because while Google proclaimed its support for concepts like 'free speech,' in fact its purpose was never to provide open access to all the information in the world but to restrict access to information The Powers That Be did not want t, I mean who is ever going to he public to access.
At the time this was achieved by simply bumping sites spreading such info. way down the results list. Who is ever going to delve through even 1000 propaganda items to find a nugget of truth, let alone a million.
Now of course we freethinkers (officially known in government and corporate circles as 'conspiracy theorists,' are organised and have our own networks within the WWW where we can share the inconvenient truths that challenge and debunk official lies, it is not enough to subsume our websites deep under listings of thousands of propaganda items. So it ,has been rebranded as 'Misinfoemation' and we are even seeing attempt by governments to criminalise the publication for such content (basically anything political parties or their corporate paymasters and the billionaire psychopaths of Silicon Valley and Wall Street do not like.
And guess with Internet search company are at the forefront of attempt to curtail our freedoms:
Google’s New Patent: Using Machine Learning to Identify “Misinformation” on Social Media
from Reclaim The Net, 28 December 2023
If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net.
Google has filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for a tool that would use machine learning (ML, a subset of AI) to detect what Google decides to consider as “misinformation” on social media.
Google already uses elements of AI in its algorithms, programmed to automate censorship on its massive platforms, and this document indicates one specific path the company intends to take going forward.
The patent’s general purpose is to identify information operations (IO) and then the system is supposed to “predict” if there is “misinformation” in there.
Judging by the explanation Google attached to the filing, it at first looks like blames its own existence for proliferation of “misinformation” – the text states that information operations campaigns are cheap and widely used because it is easy to make their messaging viral thanks to “amplification incentivized by social media platforms.”
But it seems that Google is developing the tool with other platforms in mind.
The tech giant specifically states that others (mentioning X, Facebook, and LinkedIn by name in the filing) could make the system train their own “different prediction models.”
Machine learning itself depends on algorithms being fed a large amount of data, and there are two types of it – “supervised” and “unsupervised,” where the latter works by providing an algorithm with huge datasets (such as images, or in this case, language), and asking it to “learn” to identify what it is it’s “looking” at. ... Politicians Are Offering A Trade, Safety For Freedom. But What Are We Really Trading Away?
It's the age old confidence trick, politicians and the elites offter a straight choice between security of freedom and all the risks it entails, then amplify those risks with scaremongering propaganda. In the case of the COVID crisis it has worked so far, with enough people accepting the need for masks, lockdowns and killer vaccines to make The Great Reset seem feasible - but time is running out and people are waking up ...
Big Tech tyranny is the biggest threat to democracy in our era
This weeks main story, pushing Coronavirus aside at last, has been the attempt by Twitter to censor U.S. President, classifying his somewhat rabid tweets as misinformation. For a few days now we have been seeing unconfirmed reports that the Brazilian military, which strongly supports right wing leader Jair Bolsonaro, has taken action to overturn the result of the recent election which was narrowly won by far - left former President Luiz Ignatio Lula da Silva (Lula), was corrupted by extensive vote rigging by Lula's supporters. This follows news that Brazil's Supreme Court, which Lula packed with his communist supporters during his presidency, refused to authorise and investigation into strongly evidenced claims of vote switching
AI experts are increasingly afraid of what they’re creating
In 2018 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Google CEO Sundar Pichai had something to say: “AI is probably the most important thing humanity has ever worked on. I think of it as something more profound than electricity or fire.” Pichai’s comment was met with a healthy dose of skepticism. But nearly five years later, it’s looking more and more prescient. Will The Online Safety Bill Protect Free Speech Or Assist Censorship?
The UK Online Safety Bill is presented to parliament for its final reading next week. Secretary of State for Digital Culture Michelle Donelan announced this morning that the controversial “legal but harmful” clause has been removed and thus free speech has been protected. Anti self-harm activists and groups opposinthe Gay BLTQ movement's push for paedophile equal rights and the sexualisation of children don’t like it one little bit, though free-speech enthusiasts should take no comfort from that. The Bill puts into legal jeopardy anything that creates “a material risk of significant harm to an appreciable number of adults in the United Kingdom”.
Switzerland’s environmental agency announces national moratorium on 5G
This blog has warned about the health risks of 5G wireless technology before, almost from the moment it was announced people who understand this technology (and two out of the three of us do,) have been saying that while there is always a risk from electro – magnetic radiation, with earlier technologis it was easily manageable if a loittle common sense was deployed. The exponentially higher intensity of 5G frequencies however, takes the health risks to humans to a whole different level.

TECH EXPERTS CALL FOR A BAN ON FACIAL RECOGNITION SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOGY.
There has been a huge increase in the use of facial recognition technology by police and businesses in the UK despite independent studies raising concerns about human rights violations, anddiscrimination, and numerous incidences of entirely innocent people being identified as criminals or people of interest in connection with crimes.
Legal Complaint Filed Against Food Retailer’s “Orwellian” Facial Recognition Surveillance SystemA report last week that a major UK retailer, The Co - Operative Society (Co - OP) was planning to install in - store surveillance systems with facial recognition capabilities, supposedly to reduce shoplifting by repeat offenders, caused quite a stir in the media and the privacy protection community. Privacy rights campaign group Big Brother have denounced the scheme which would capture and store biometric scans of “thousands of shoppers” is “unlawful” and “Orwellian in the extreme.”
Be Afraid: Facial Recognition Technology Is Stalking Our Public Spaces
Here is more evidence of just how dangerous and out of hand this creeping surveillance architecture is becoming. An investigation by Big Brother Watch has uncovered a facial recognition ‘epidemic’ across privately owned sites in the UK. The civil liberties campaign group has found major property developers, shopping centres, museums, conference centres and casinos using the technology in the UK.
