There Is Only One Way Ukraine Can End The War

 

As Ukraine's much hyped counterattack has failed to achieved the and momentum that hoped for by American and NATO leaders  including President Volodymyr Zelensky who admitted it was "slower than desired", and a range of soldiers interviewed by BBC and Sky News television reporters t on different parts of the  long (probably too long given the depletion of Ukrainian military manpower,) frontline have blamed minefields laid by Russian troops for that delay. Well as is often said, in any wartruth is the first casualty.

"Of course, it slows down the movement of troops," said the commander of a nine-man sapper squad with the call sign Dill. He'd just finished a de-mining mission on the nearby frontlines to the east of the tiny, ruined village of Predtechyne, outside Bakhmut. He laid out an array of deactivated Russian mines on the ground beneath a tree, taking care to make sure he could not be spotted by Russian drones overhead.

"The enemy has no mercy for their own soldiers. They're used as cannon fodder. But we're trying to move forwards with the minimum of casualties," said the Lieutenant Serhii Tyshenko from the 3rd Assault Brigade, speaking from the shelter of a nearby bunker.

 The only way the war can now end in anything but total and crushing defeat for Ukraine is if the regime in Kiev surrender. Given the vague and often contradictory nature of reports on conditions inside Ukraine it is impossible to guess how close the Ukrainians are to that, or even if they are close to it at all.

It is likely then the war will go on inside Ukrain, with NATO supplying weapons and humanitarian aid but unwilling to engage in direct, armed conflict with Russia.  The stated goals of the West and those of Russia are so totally opposite, with the west hoping to cause the ousting of Putin and thus achieve regime change in Moscow, weakening Russia in the process while Russia wants to secure its southern border and prevent Ukraine becom, ing part of NATO which would enable the Americans to open military bases and site long range weapons close to Russia's border, that it's difficult to see how there can be any negotiated settlement.

Even more so now that the war aims of Russia seem to have extended. At first they were after little more than a modified implementation of Minsk 2. But the blunt Russian statement of aims at the very beginning showed that there was more to it than that. "Demilitarisation and denazification" could scarcely have been done only with a Minsk 2 type arrangement. Even the later peace proposals did not go that far. 

It all seemed so straightforward in April 2022 when both side were prepared to discuss a settlement brokered by Turkey's President Erdogan, before UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was dispatched by Washington to Kiev to tell the Ukrainian regime that they were not to enter peace talks with Moscow without permission from Washington.

But the main point is that any settlement of this conflict that might have been on the table dealt only with a possible settlement in Ukraine. However, the Russians appear to have recently extended their demands by linking the conditions for a settlement to their European security demands made in 2021, perhapd because of the west furnishing Ukraine with the means to attack targets within Russia..

A settlement between the NATO powers and Russia that involved only Ukraine could have been achieved. Something might have been cooked up and slathered in enough of the sauce of convoluted diplomatic language to save face for the Western politicians and met Russia's demands. It is hard to imagine how, but the diplomats and PR men are highly skilled at bending words so the necessary exit route might have been found for both sides.

But any settlement that leads to the West budging on those European security demands would mean the withdrawal of American missile bases close to Russia's borders in former Soviet republics such as Estonia and Lithuania, and also relocating concentrations of NATO troops further away from the Russian border. There is no way that could be done without a loss of face for the Western politicians that no diplomatic obfuscation could conceal.

So if the Russians are serious about linking any settlement to those 2021 demands there will be no settlement arrived at. Such intransigence on both sides can only mean this conflict will be decided on the battlefield and not at thenegotiating table. There can be no armistice until one side or the other collapses into dystopian, failed - state chaos. The conflict is now "existential" for both NATO and Russia and one side or the other has to lose.

It's been pretty obvious to me since February 2022 which side will be defeated. The military and economic reality is that Ukraine cannot win unless no matter how much help they get from the liberal democracies of the west unless and until NATO commits to sending in ground forces rather than just suppying weapons for the Russians to destroy. And NATO is unlikely to do that because it would make nuclear engagement not just possible but inevitable.

On top of that the west has its own problems, we have seen France crash and burn this week, the USA and UK are in societal breakdown and Germany is on the way to becoming an economic basket case while leaders of all three instead of dealing with domestic problems obsess over 'woke' idiocies like 'net zero', transgender rights, and imposing alien values and traditions on indiginous populations in order to make immigrants feel more welcome.

There are too many unknowns when it comes to Ukraine itself for and meaningful discussions of a settlement that would leave Ukraine mostly intact. We simply don't know how much more of the daily pounding the Ukrainians themselves will be prepared to take or how many more soldiers must die or be incapacitated before the people turn on the government and say 'NO MORE'. We don't know how effective the ultra-nationalist indoctrination of the last few years has been. We don't know how strong a grip the Zelensky and his neo - Nazi bosses have on public opinion in Ukraine. We don't know, in spite of all the floods of speculation, whether there are any factions in that administration that might be in a position to force a change of direction from the current fight-to-the-last-man philosophy.

However, despite daily reports in western mainstream media trying to convince us the Ukrainian counter offensive is rapidly advancing towards Murmansk and Vladivostock, we know that the Ukrainians are taking horrendous losses and that from a rapidly diminishing population base.  Not only are military personnel dying, ordinary civilians are leaving in droves, mostly for Poland, Romania and other EU member states. All of this, such as it is, suffices to give us any firm basis to speculate when or if whether the Ukrainians themselves will call a halt. We do know that a country in extremis tends to fight on. In 1945, when it was obvious as could be that their war was lost. And the fact that we, correctly, now view their cause as wrong doesn't mean those German patriots didn't fight like heroes. 

This alone ought to be enough to prompt the United Nations to step in and deploy a peacekeeping force to avert a humanitarian disaster on a scale unprecedented since Word War 2.

Florida’s Surgeon General Releases A Blistering Indictment Of COVID Vaccine And The People Who Promoted Them

Dr Joseph Ladapo, the Florida Surgeon General this week released into the public domain a letter in which lambasted health officials, not just in his home state, or the USA but around the world over their promotion of the mRNA Covid vaccines. The government, he said, ‘has relentlessly forced a premature vaccine into the arms of the American people with little or no concern for its possible adverse ramifications’.

The letter was addressed to Drs Robert Califf, head of the Food and Drug Administration, and Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, both leading medical  and health policy agencies of the US government. Lapado wrote: ‘Your ongoing decision to ignore many of the risks associated with mRNA Covid-19 vaccines, alongside your efforts to manipulate the public into thinking they are harmless, have resulted in deep distrust in the American health care system.’

As reported earlier this year, numerous independent senior American scientists have called for a ‘bipartisan, scientifically minded Covid-19 commission so the public health disaster of the past three years is not repeated’. They face an uphill struggle in achieving that aim because the political establishment, Big Pharma cartel and all their hired lackeys in the healthcare and media industries cannot now admit they were wrong, having for so long dismissed ll of us conspiracy theorists or anybody who questioned COVID project fear propaganda or pseudoscientific vaccine evangelism as a conspiracy theorist or anti - vaccine nutcase.

 However Ladapo’s no-holds-barred letter means that at least some of Florida’s 22.6million  citizens have a chance of knowing the jabs are not ‘safe and effective’, as the British public are constantly being told. And an encouraging trend is emerging as more and more medical professionals who were silenced at the height of the pandemic by authoritarian censorship, or fear of having their careers and reputations destroyed, are now talking and writing about their fears that releasing these hurriedly developed, improperly tested vaccines which used a gene editing technique that had previously been abandoned due to the catastrophic results observed when they were tested on animals.

A fully tested vaccine, or any medicine, would, on release, be backed by proven, verifiable data from a prolonged and rigourous testing process, nor does the manufacturer, if they have confidence in their product demand a total immunity from prosecution for their staff and especially senior management. 

In the case of COVID vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson, the mRNA experimental vaccine was pushed as the ONLY cure for what was natural flu with a small modification making it deadly to a larger number of especially vulnerasble people. The manufacturers, academics, politicians and medical professions knew that the side effects were the real killer, they knew that treatment with ventilators would kill, but still they wanted the experiment to be carried thru - what vaccine was ever produced and released on the public before mRNA that required continuous “booster” shots t,he gift that keeps on giving as far as manufacturers profits are concerned. 

The pandemic, we can see now was a hoax, a propaganda exercise, and the push to vaccinate the world was an experiment pure and simple, the medical authorities fully supported it, especially as it was driven by the corrupt World Health Organiation (WHO), the lockdowns were not meant to save lives but to increase the spread within a family pool and to wreak economic havoc, making people more dependent on government as a means of squashing dissent. We now have a mutant gene within the genetic gene pool, and no-one really knows what damage is being done, what areas of the bodies natural immune system have been compromised, but one thing is definite, the Big Pharma Three are planning their batch of experimental cures, and the fools in charge will once again, give immunity and claim that the “cures” are modern miracles.

US-Saudi Petrodollar Deal Breaking Down as Russia Grabs Upper Hand

The recently minted Saudi-Russia-China oil alliance, which paves the way for international oil trades to be settled in a currency of the vendors choice effectively spells the end of the 'Petrodollar' system, an agreement concluded in the early 1970s between Saudi Arabia, as the world's largest oil exporter, and the USA, issuer since the Bretton Woods agreement of 1945, of the main global reserve currency for international trade.

This development has the potential to cause all kinds of trouble for the US economy, which has been propped up for decades by the US$ status as reserve currency, because it enabled the USA to dictate to nations and organisations needing to buy dollars to settle their trades, what price the USA would pay for its imports and how much its trading partners would pay for US exports.. At the OPEC+ (Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Cpuntries,) meeting earlier this month the decision by member states to cut crude output, for the second time since President Joe (Where am I, what's going on,) Biden flew to Saudi Arabia last summer to plead with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to increase oil output may be just the start of the oil producers revenge, after they have watched advanced nations try and fail to find alternative ways to power their economies which would have destroyed the oil producers revenue streams.

The April 2 announcement caused oil prices to spike by about $5 a barrel. OPEC’s projections on future demand show that the cuts will widen the supply shortfall later this year as futures contracts made before sanctions were applied to Russian oil exports expire. That means oil prices will go up further, with the usual knock on effects on food and manufactured goods, inflation will rise even faster, and recession risks become greater because consumers spending more on energy  and food will have less to spend on consumer goods. Worse, in spite of sanctions Russia is still managing to sell its oil via middle men in China, Iran, India, Pakistan and the Gulf States so Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, gets a bigger war-chest to fund his attack on Ukraine.

But what does the OPEC+ move tell us about the likely future for oil prices.

In a world of shifting geopolitical alliances, Saudi Arabia is breaking away from Washington’s orbit and cosying up to China and Russia which in addition to its detente with the traditional enemy and rival regional power Iran, is very bad news for businesses and citizens in the developed nations. The Saudis set oil production levels in coordination with Russia. When they wanted to ease tensions with regional rival Iran, they turned to China to broker a deal with the US left out of the loop. Western influence over the oil cartel, in other words, is no longer absolute and appears to be waning fast.

But while The White House  expects OPEC+ members  to dance to Washington's tune, all have their own priorities, from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s ambitious plans to reinvent his economy, to Putin’s war. Any extra revenue they get from charging more for oil will help and also serve China's long term aim of replacing the US$ as reserve currency with a trading system of its own creation.

Asked about concerns that OPEC+ has twice cut production since Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia, a State Department spokesperson said the administration is focused on controlling domestic energy prices and ensuring US energy security, adding that the US views production cuts as inadvisable given ongoing market volatility.

Meanwhile, the threat of competition from US shale fields, a deterrent to price hikes in the past, has receded. And while there’s a global effort to reduce fossil-fuel use — and higher prices will accelerate that effort — the dash to drill in the last year shows that the zero-carbon economy remains in the realm of wishful thinking than an achievable target in the short term.

However for the global economy, lower oil supply and higher prices are doubly bad news. The major exporters are the big winners, of course. For importers, like most European countries, more expensive energy is a double blow — dragging on growth even as inflation rises. Bloomberg Economics’ SHOK model predicts that for every $5 increase in oil prices, US inflation will rise by 0.2 percentage point, which  at a time when the Federal Reserve is struggling to bring prices under control is not welcome.

There are three key reasons why more such shocks may be in store: The geopolitical shift, the maturing of shale, and the Saudi spending splurge.

For decades, the US-Saudi “oil for security” pact has been the foundation of of the energy market.  Symbolized by the 1945 meeting between President Franklin D. Roosevelt and King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud, aboard a US cruiser in the Suez Canal, the deal to make US$ the reserve currency later gave the US access to Saudi oil in exchange for guaranteeing the kingdom’s security.

But the pact is no longer what it once was: 

In 2018, Washington Post columnist and Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

In 2019, Joe Biden — then a presidential candidate — threatened to turn Saudi Arabia into a pariah state and halt arms sales.

In 2021, early in the Biden presidency, the US government published an intelligence report assessing that Crown Prince Mohammed, the kingdom’s de facto ruler, was responsible for the Khashoggi assassination.

In October 2022, OPEC+ lowered oil production by 2 million barrels a day — less than three months after Biden flew to Riyadh seeking an increase. The White House blasted the move as “short-sighted.”

Last month, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to restore diplomatic ties in a deal brokered by China and signed in Beijing. The Saudi government has also agreed to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization – a group with China and Russia at the helm, and seen as a rival to Western institutions,  as a “dialogue member”.

"The Saudis are looking for an aggressive hedge," said Jon Alterman, director of the Middle East Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based think tank. "Given what the Saudis see as a radically unpredictable US policy, they think it's irresponsible not to look for a hedge. And by radically unpredictable, you're looking at a US policy that changed sharply between Obama and Trump and Biden."

In the aftermath of the April 2 move, Saudi officials said it was motivated by national priorities rather than any diplomatic agenda.

“OPEC+ has succeeded now and in the past in stabilizing oil markets, and contrary to claims by Western and industrial states this has nothing to do with politics,” former Saudi oil ministry adviser Mohammad Al Sabban said, according to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper

India Takes A Leading Role In De-Dollarization

Reuters reported last Wednesday that “India’s Oil Deals With Russia Dent Decades-Old Dollar Dominance”, which highlighted the growing tendency of those and many other nations using national or or third-party currencies to settle cross border trades thus sidelining the US$ which has dominated international trade since the 1970s. 

The dollar was adopted as the primary reserve currency for international trade in 1945, and the petrodollar was established became the medium for oil trades as a result of an agreement in 1971 between the USA and Saudi Arabia.

The growing use of national or third part currencies is something significant that everyone involved i  international trade or finance should pay attention to. We reported in our currency wars feature soon after Russia’s (ahem,) special military operation began that the West’s sanctions, imposed with the aim of destroying the Russian economy, “could erode the dollar’s dominance”. Naturally we were written off as crazy conspiracy theorists for holding such an opinion but ...

Lo and behold, that’s precisely what happened, with India of all countries accelerating de-dollarization through its non-dollar-denominated energy deals with Russia. 

Since India decided that supporting US / EU sanctions was not in its best interests, Russia has become India’s largest supplier of oil and over the past year has provided a whopping 35% of that country’s needs. India is also the world’s third-largest oil importer and fifth-largest economy. having recently overtaken the UK to occupy that spot. Their new energy ties, and particularly the growing de-dollarization dimension of their deals thus must have effects all around the world.

This refusal to support sanctions or openly demonstrate support for Ukraine does not signify any anti-American sentiment on India’s part since everything is purely motivated by the pursuit of that country’s objective national interests. Delhi had no choice but to distance itself from dollar-denominated energy trades  with Moscow due to Washington’s illegal sanctions on nations that trade with Russia. Its leaders were not going to plunge the world’s most populous country into an economic crisis just to please the Dementia Joe and his whacko administration by eschewing the import of discounted oil from Russia or sacrificing the revenue earned from its exports to Russia.

By defying American pressure upon it to unilaterally concede on those aforementioned objective national interests, India’s economy ended up growing at twice the pace of China’s, which contributed to catapulting that country to the forefront of the  global systemic transition to multipolarity

. India is now well placed to establish itself as the de facto leader the Global Global South in helping fellow developing countries balance between U.S. hegemony  and the  Sino-Russo Entente. However, in spite of claims made by Dementia Joe, Boris Johnson when he was Prme Minister, Emmanuel Macron and leaders of other NATO / EU member states that the world was closing ranks around Ukraine, emboldened by the stances of Russia and China (which has its own little contretemps with the Biden administration over Taiwan, while the EU's 27 member states, the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan and New Zealand (for what its worth), are supporting Zelensky's futile war, the rest of the world seems happy with a 'business as usual' relationship with Russia.

Had India complied with the US’ illegal sanctions, then the New York Times wouldn’t have recently admitted that their sanctions failed as the West’s efforts to “isolate” Russia politically also had. It was largely due to India's truly independent grand strategy that this latest phase of the New Cold War

 didn’t end in the collapse of Russia's economy and the restoration of unipolarity, which would have been detrimental to India and every other developing country’s interests while you could have safely bet your life savings that the Americans would have taken advantage of the loss of Russian oil and gas exports to EU member states to well and truly shaft the major European economies.

Seymour Hersh Nord Stream Bombshell Report Attacked By USA and Zelensky Fan Club

 Veteran  investigative journalist Seymour Hersh published a bombshell report on Wednesday (8 February,) in which he alleged that the United States was behind the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline system last year, citing a single unnamed source "with direct knowledge of the operational planning."This is not news to  most of us as people from a industrial, political, or economic backgrounds, applying the principle of 'cui bono' (who benefits,) quickly identified the USA as the prime suspected, probably aided and abetted by one of their NATO allies in the region.

According to Hersh's report published on his new Substack, the September, 2022 attack on the Russian - owned gas pipelines which carried around 30% of the gas Germany needed to keep the home fires burning and the wheels of industry turning was effected by the U.S. Navy "under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22" and with assistance from the Norwegian navy and secret service.

Last June, with the authorization of President Joe Biden, U.S. Navy divers planted "remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines," Hersh reported.

White House security spokesman Adrienne Watson,quickly denied U.S. involvement, telling the Russian state-owned news agency TASS that Hersh's reporting was "false and complete fiction." The White House gave the same statement to Reuters and to Hersh himself, who over the course of his career has famously exposed U.S. forces' massacre of hundreds of Vietnamese civilians exposed the torture of detainees at the U.S-run Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.The reporter stood by his story however, and asserted that his source is totally reliable, hinting that there is more to be revealed about US involvement in European affairs.

It does not matter whether Hersh knows more than he is telling. In any story like this, whether deliberately leaked or actively researched, there will be a grain (actually a very, very large slice) of the truth. So here's how we Boggart Bloggers think things stand:

It seems everyone knows that the USA was behind the action, whether practically or only by instigation. Were it otherwise how could American gas suppliers have had a fleet of Liquid Natural Gas tankers ready to start shipping gas to Europe to replace the lost Russian imports. Most well informed people in Germany, including many business leaders have accepted this and it is likely the Russians or someone in Germany has evidence to prove it.

So as readers we need to think rationally to try to sort out which parts of Hersh's story are the red herrings. I think that it is reasonable to assume that 75% is true, but the issue is sorting out which 25% is not.

Our guess is that the US sources would be anxious to protect their anonymity, and if it was a US plane that triggered the explosion to protect U.S. interests by throwing Norway to the lions. They would also probably be keen to protect the UK, since if they shit on the Brits there are a lot of secrets regarding covert operations known to MI6 and any serious rift could lead to all sorts of embarrassing leaks. So Norway is sacrificed instead of the UK, and perhaps because it is felt that Russia is less likely to retaliate against Norway.

One serious issue for the USA, that nobody is discussing, is just how reliable is the UK these days. The huge social shifts that has seen Rishi Sunak elected as PM indicates that the Angloshpere connection is weakening. Yes Sunak is probably in the pocket of the USA as is Starmer, but what about the nation as a whole. Economically the UK is in a bad place and it would be expedient to dump on weak Norway, than risk further destabilisation in UK.

All of this might seem idiotically convoluted, but compared to the usual machinations of governments, diplomatic staff and state security agencies it is comparatively straightforward, and in the light of  the initial response of the USA and NATO members to the sabotage of the pipelines, which was you may remember, to accuse the Russians of sabotaging their own pipeline, an asset via which a highly significant slice of their export revenue was earned, it starts to look quite feasible.

Europe On Course For Economic Suicide By Sanctions and Net Zero

The sanctions imposed by European Union member states, the UK, Switzerland Norway and other NATO member states against Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine in February this year will rank in as the biggest self inflicted kicks in the bollocks throughout recorded history, and the best example in living memory of the disastrous consequences of how not thinking things through properly can result in disastrous unintended consequences. 

 While seeking to punish Russia by cutting off gas and oil imports, European Union politicians, in their zeal to embrace the groupthink and follow the crowd, managed to overlook the fact that their embracing the groupthink on climate change and 'net zero' energy policies they had made Europe dependent on Russian energy supplies , with absolutely no fallback position and that the only people to suffer were those imports shut down would be the people of Europe and European national economies.

Egged on by the American idiot - president, 'Dementia Joe Biden,' European leaders charged ahead with sanctions on imports of energy, fertilizer and other essential commodities, confident that the Russian economy would collapse in days and Vladimir Putin would have no option to to agree a ceasefire on whatever terms NATO saw fit to offer. USA led NATO terms because, let's be honest, this was never a war between Ukraine and Russia, it was the long planned proxy war between the USA and Russia fought on Ukrainian soil and using Ukrainian army personnel as cannon fodder and Ukrainian civilians for target practice.

Russians however play their own games and make up the rules as they go along and The Kremlin simply pivoted to the south and east and found plenty of new buyers for its oil, gas and other commodities in China, India, and elsewhere. In fact, Russia’s state-run Gazprom energy company has reported that its profits have increased by 100 percent in the first half of this year.

Russia's economy is booming while Europeans are facing a freezing winter , food shortages, power cuts, hyper - inflation, a cost of living crisis and economic collapse. All because of the false belief that sanctions are a cost-free way to force other countries to bow to your diktat.

What happens when the people on the shitty end of these stupid policies see energy bills skyrocket as the economy grounds to a halt? They become desperate and take to the streets in protest, civil unrests further disrupts the economic and social fabric.

This weekend thousands of Austrians took to the streets in a “Freedom Rally” to demand an end to sanctions and the opening of Nord Stream II, the gas pipeline on the verge of opening earlier this year. The protestors demanded government action to curb the rising cost of living and the insane increases in energy costs..

Some people condemned the Austrian government for failing the people and called for the lifting of “suicidal sanctions” against Russia and for Austria to break ranks with NATO and declare neutrality. Others condemned NATO’s belligerent nature, which is pushing Europe towards an unprecedented militarization. Austrian newspaper Heute quoted local police as saying the number of people at the scene was expected to reach 30,000.

Similar protests took place in Prague, the Czech capital, last Saturday (September 3). According to local sources, more than 70,000 Czechs poured into Wenceslas Square, to complain that the Czech government had failed to solve the energy crisis and should resign.

After the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Western countries increased sanctions on Russia, disrupting the supply of energy markets and causing European energy prices to soar. After Russia recently announced the indefinite shutdown of the “North Stream-1” gas pipeline, the European energy crisis has further fermented.

Not only that, the Group of Seven (G7) also wants to set a price cap on Russian natural gas. The Russian side responded that it would not work in a non-competitive environment, and Gazprom would completely cut off its supply to EU countries.

Even the Washington Post, a cheerleader for escalation throughout the conflict, was forced to admit that sanctions on Russia are not having the intended effect. In an article yesterday (15 September), the paper worries that sanctions are inflicting “collateral damage far beyond the intended target, potentially even hurting the very countries that impose them. Some even worried that the sanctions intended to deter and weaken Putin could end up emboldening and strengthening him.”

This is all predictable. Sanctions kill. Sometimes they kill innocents in the country targeted for destruction and sometimes they kill innocents in the country imposing them. The solution, as always, is non-intervention. No sanctions, no “color revolutions,” no meddling. It’s really that simple.
