UK admits sending paratroopers to Ukraine After Parachute Regiment Soldier Killed By Hostile Fire

 

Lance Corporal George Hooley of the Parachute Regiment has been named as the British soldier who died on active service in Ukraine by the UK Ministry of Defense. This publicly acknowledges for the first time that the UK's elitie  paratroopers have been operating inside Ukraine. Twenty - eight-year-old Lance Corporal Hooley was killed in what the ministry described on Tuesday as a “tragic accident” while observing Ukrainian forces test a new defensive system “away from the front lines.”

There are conflicting reports about the incident but independent sources (i.e. not influenced bu UK government propaganda,) suggest it appers to have been caused by hostile fire, possibly a drone strike. A source in the ministry is quoted as saying that it is the first official UK military casualty in Ukraine.

Last year, the UK admitted that a “small number of personnel” were serving in a supportive role in Ukraine. London has been one of Kiev’s chief arms suppliers, and more than 56,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained under the British-led Operation Interflex. Earlier this week Europe's 'three stooges', UK Prime Minister Starmer, French President Macron and Germany's Chancelor Merz met Zelensky in London to formulate plans to derail President Trump's latest peace initiative and prolong the slaughter. The only good thing that might come of  Corporal Hooley's sacrifice it that it may serve as a wake up call to British voters exactly what Starmer's ambition to get our country directly involved in war with Russia would mean, not just for professional soldierrs but also the millions of young men who would necessarily be conscripted, and of course for civilians as bombs and missiles behand to fall on British cities.

Many of us in alt_media have argued since 2022 that Europe has no obligation to support a shithole country like  Ukraine, the recent scandal resulting from the exposure of massive corruption in Zelensky's government is evidence that there is nothing to be gained by sacrificing more British lives to support a bunch of neo - Nazi crooks, yet here we are doing so, with Prime Minister Starmer anxious to get us more deeply involved (probably as a means of deflecting scrutiny from the mess his government are in while Trump dimisses Europe's weak leaders and deals directly with Moscow. 

According to the Russian Telegram channel ‘Rybar’, which covers the Ukraine conflict, at least 99 British men and one woman are said to be part of an “International Legion of Territorial Defence of Ukraine.”

At least 40 UK citizens have died fighting for Ukraine since 2022, according to The Telegraph.

Russia maintains that Western countries’ arms deliveries and training programs make them de facto participants in the conflict. Moscow has said it will treat any foreign troops on Ukrainian soil as legitimate targets.

Having troops in Ukraine risks being seen as NATO involvement. If we are sending soldiers , for any reason, we should have a debate in Parliament about it first.The last thing we need is to be dragged into a war we have neither planned for nor can curently affford. Once again, we have to ask, as with the Blair 'Dodgy dossier", are we being told the truth by our government?

Situation in Bakhmut is "much worse than officially reported," Ukrainian soldiers say

 

Only a month after Ukraine's military General Staff confidently stated that any withdrawal of troops defending the 'meat grinder' stronghold o Bakhmut in the the nations eastern Donbas region, currently largely occupied by Russian forces was "out of the question," the narrative has suddenly shifted amid reports that the Russians are shelling Ukrainian positions around the clock, and independent reports say that throughout the months of fierce fighting around the city Ukrainian losses of personnel have been many times those of Russia's military. Simultaneously complaints from Ukrainian front line soldiers leaking out of he tightly controlled war reporting machinery tell of of not enough weapons or ammo supplies to keep pace with the Russians. 

President Zelensky in fresh remarks on the situation has admitted for the first time that besieged Bakh mut is running out of options and Ukraine may soon have to withdraw its defending forces and surrender the city to the occupiers.

A CNN reporter revealed that Ukrainian soldiers in Bakhmut have described a worsening situation on the ground as Russian forces continue to apply pressure to capture the city.

“The situation in Bakhmut is very difficult now. It is much worse than officially reported,” a soldier who didn’t want to be named told CNN on Tuesday. “We should add another 100% difficulty to the official reports. In all directions. Especially in the northern direction, where the orcs [Russians] have made the biggest advance.”

The soldier refuted Russian claims that Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut had been cut off and were unable to get supplies into the city.  

“The Khromove [settlement] is the key for the defense of the city. When it is captured, only one Bakhmut - Kostiantynivka road will remain to supply the city,” the soldier explained. “It is already under the enemy's fire control, and if the enemy captures it, supplies will be impossible.”

Despite the obvious difficulties, the soldier said Ukrainian forces would continue to defend the city as long as possible. “The city will be defended until the end, no matter what. We all understand that we are holding on and dying to win time for a counteroffensive in the spring,” the soldier also said. “We cannot give up every city without a fight,” he said.

Another soldier referenced only by his call-sign Kyivan, described a similar situation in a video posted on social media.

“As of the morning of February 28, the situation around the defense of Bakhmut is quite difficult,” Kyivan, who used to be based in Bakhmut said, citing information he is getting from colleagues inside the city. A third soldier speaking alongside Kyivan described the battles in Bakhmut as “hellish,” but added that Ukrainian soldiers were “holding everything.”

 Such loyalty to the cause is understandable when so many comrades have laid down their lives in the 'meat grinder' of Bakhmut but there have been conflicting reports of gun battles deep within the city itself, as Russian forces have it nearly fully encircled, and move in to mop up pockets of resistance as the NY Times also confirms:

Reuters too, for so long faithful to the narrative of Ukrainian success has, for the first time presented a headline on Tuesday which put the situation for the Ukrainian defenders in stark terms: "Russians tighten noose on Ukraine's Bakhmut," the news service reported.

On Monday Zelensky had described that "The enemy is constantly destroying everything that can be used to protect our positions for fortification and defense. Our soldiers defending the area around Bakhmut are true heroes." Some soldiers cited in local reports are vowing to fight till the end, as military reports get more and more desperate.

It may seem foolishly heroic of the Ukrainians to have held on so long when it was clearly inevitable months ago that Bakhmut must fall, but while the official narrative has been that the city is of little importance, military experts have said it is the key to Russia's securing the whole of eastern Ukraine. The next few weeks will reveal who is right on that.

Within the past days he also said for the first time that he won't seek to hold the city "at any cost" - which is an oblique way of admitting Ukraine has suffered a staggering loss in manpower in its efforts to defend the city.

THE THIRD WORLD WAR

This blog was posted ten years ago. How little has changed other than the labels we stick on the bad guys. As you read this blog, whenever you counter the word Iran, substitute Syria and when you read Bush, make it Obama. Round and round we go on the propaganda carousel.

A headline in one of today's papers, over a picture of an overturned and burned out tank in which six U.S. soldiers and an interpreter told us that Iran is orchestrating an offensive aimed at driving the Americans and British out of Iraq.The story that followed reported that new alliances have been forged between Sunni insurrectionists (they're not insurgents, OK, they'e bloody insurrectionists) and Shia militia, Al Quaeda terror groups and Syrian geurillas have increased the strike capabilities of the Iraqis.

This is the response to Bush's surge of course.

Loyal readers of Boggart Blog and Little Nicky Machiavelli blog will recall we predicted about a year ago that the conflict would escalate towards full scale war in late 2007 or early 2008 as defeat for the religious right in the U.S. Presidential elections started to look certain.

Earlier this year we reported that U.S. and British troops had been carrying out covert operations inside Iran with the aim of stirring up unrest.

Now our discredited and deluded politicians are trying to fool us by crying foul when the Iranians retaliate.
It is time we took to the streets to put an end to this insanity before we are counting our dead in hundreds rather than tens each week.
