Iran Tightens Grip On The Gulf As Mosquito Fleet Bites Foreign Commercial Oil Tankers

 

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi today (12 March 2026) denied reports that Iran was laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Takht-Ravanchi's remarks come days after the US said it had struck multiple Iranian vessels, including 16 minelaying vessels operating near the Strait of Hormuz.

"Some countries have already talked to us about passing the Strait, and we have cooperated with them," the Deputy FM was quoted as saying by AFP. "As far as Iran is concerned, we feel that those countries that joined the aggression should not benefit from safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz."

News sources in the middle east report that India has agreed passage for 28 ships through the strait, but this is not confirmed.

UK Defense Secretary John Healey said the reports had become "clearer and clearer that the Iranians may have started mining in the strait."

 Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba says the closure of the Strait of Hormuz should be continued as a tool to pressure the enemy as reports from Reuters and other international sources suggested Iran has begun marine mine laying operations to further block sea traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

He additionally stated that "all US bases should immediately be closed in the region and those bases should be attacked." 

Attacks on US bases in the Gulf region and as far away as the Mediterranean have been ongoing this week, as the cross Gulf drone and missile strikes continue, most recently in northern Iraq, and around Erbil. 

On the question of base attacks, he claimed that Iran "only" targets military bases and sites, and says this will continue. However, he did try to assure angry Gulf neighbors, who have been pummeled by Iranian missiles and drones for close to two weeks now, that Iran believes in "friendship with our neighbors". 

The message, which may have been released in response to reports that the Ayatollah had been seriously injured in a bomb strike and was in a coma, further praises 'martyrs' of the Islamic Republic and is one that emphasizes Iran is not backing down, despite the immense daily US-Israeli bombings so the economic outlook for the west is grim as we face a months long oil and energy crisis. 

He also 'thanked' regional militias for their 'support' - at a moment Shia Iraq militant groups are said to be launching strikes on US targets inside neighboring Iraq. Ominously, the new Ayatollah is warning of opening "other fronts". 

Elsewhere in The Gulf two oil tankers were struck overnight in the Gulf asas Iran intensified its attacks on foreign ships across the region. The vessels were reportedly hit by small, fast, remote-controlled boats on Iran's Mosquito Fleet, in effect marine drones laden with explosives. The attack took place in Iraqi waters, with footage showing one of the tankers ablaze.

Iraqi authorities said oil Iraqi ports had “completely stopped” operations following the attack, hours after Donald Trump insisted the United States had already won the war.

The attacks sent oil prices soaring  on Thursday, with crude hitting more than $100 (£80) a barrel, despite record releases of strategic crude reserves to dampen one of the worst oil shocks since the 1970s. New threats of an attack on Iran's vital Kharg Island oil terminal by  Trump have been taken as proof that the US leadership has gone mad. 

The two tankers - carrying cargos of extremely flammable naphtha and condensate,  - were attacked while present in loading area.Tanker ZEFYROS was scheduled to head to Khor Al-Zubair Port on March 12 to load additional 30,000 tons shipment of naphtha. This incident negatively affects Iraq’s security and economy and also represents a threat to safety of maritime navigation and oil activities within Iraqi territorial waters, SOMO says.

According to an Iraqi port official speaking to the Reuters news agency, authorities have successfully evacuated 25 crew members from the two ships. Despite these efforts, the fires have remained ablaze on both vessels.

One tanker, which was flying a foreign flag, is believed to be American, though its specific nationality has not been confirmed. The attack took place within Iraq’s territorial waters, but no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

It turns out that perhaps the area is not as "safe" as President Trump said it was. And as a reminder, the US Navy already said it was 'too dangerous' to escort tankers through still.

As a result of these hits on tankers, Iraq one of the first Persian Gulf majors to start reducing oil production after the near-closure of Hormuz, closed its oil ports,  followed by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia as Iran tightened its grip on the entrance to the Gulf. The cuts forced forced the International Energy Agency to act with a co-ordinated release of 400 million barrels — a historic drawdown that is significantly higher than the volume that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Oil prices are surging higher on the news with WTI back above $91 - now up on the week and 20% higher than yesterday's lows.

Did Trump Really Endorse Starmer's Chagos Giveaway Or Was He Just Stalling

 

Mainstream media' latest fake news frenzy got under way yesterday with hysterical reports that President Trump had flipped his position on UK Prime Minister Starmer's deal to give away The British Indian Ocean Territory (The Chagos Islands,) to Mauritius and then rent it back from them. Given the strategic importance of Diego Garcia, the biggest island in the Chagos archipelago, Trump was right to describe the deal as an act of gorss stupidity. 

As usual the TDS sufferers are quick to criticise, slow to read or listen, analyze and understand. Donald Trump did not actually express support for Starmer's Chagos deal. The American diplomatic (and correct,) position on Chagos is that the deal is a matter for the UK government, although the US has a vested interest in what happens. 

Trump has simply explained what he will do if it all goes pear shaped. As things stand right now it looks as if Starmer  may no longer be in a position to force the deal through parliament if they have decided to park it up until after the May elections.

Starmer’s treasonous handover of the Chagos Islands cannot be done without the express permission of the US government, apparently because of the 60-year-old treaty between the UK and US. Also, Trump may not have the authority to abrogate a treaty without consulting Congress. And right now, with tensions rising between the USA and Iran's Islamic theocracy, it looks as if the Diego Garcia base has never been more important for the west.

After former MP Andrew Bridgen’s astonishing revelations on X (also reproduced below)about the Chagos Fraud, thanks to a heroic whistleblower from Scotland Yard, I wonder what Starmer & his Trilateral Commission cronies offered Trump for his sudden U-turn. Surely not money, since Trump is already a billionaire and Starmer is so tight fisted he evel let's other blokes buy his wife's sexy knickers for her. Greenland perhaps?

 

 

I think we should reserve judgement and think about what Trump actually said. For me the key phrase was “it’s the best deal he could make.”

Donny then went on to say that the USA would not hesitate to step in at any time if Washington thought US interests are threatened. None of this is saying, “it’s a great deal for everyone concerned,” but more like: “C’mon guys, its a lousy deal but this is Starmer we’re talking about. What did you expect?”

It sounded to me like stalling until we find out if Starmer is still going to be Prime Minister by the end of this month. Or the case may be that US diplomats have advised Trump to back off until the Mandelson business has blown over, I mean if you’re going to kick a supposed ally while he’s down don’t do it when the world is watching.

With the extent of Epstein’s and Mandy’s links to China now coming to light we might have a long wait before the situation is finally clear.

Trump's Tariffs On EU Trade Are More Political Than Protectionist

 

 

Last Friday, (May 23) US President Donald Trump slapped a staggering 50% tariff on European Union goods, which will take effect from 1 June 2025, unless the EU agrees to significant changes in its trade policies. The escalation has kicked off  and a diplomatic crisis destabilised financial markets.

Trump’s proposal aims to reduce the EU’s huge trade surplus with the /USA ($550 billion in annual exports to the US, compared to $351 billion in US exports to the EU in 2022) which as has long been acknowledged, is mostly due to unfair trade barriers and protectionist policies operated by the EU to restrict inward trade to the bloc. Trump's outrageous tariff, given his style of politics, is probably a stunt which aims to force Brussels to renegotiate its terms for trading with the USA. 

The announcement is the latest in a list of aggressive trade rhetoric, where tariffs are proposed but sometimes softened when the target nation agrees to negotiate. The EU, the world’s largest trading bloc and an important ally of the US, now faces a reckoning over it's trade policies.

Typically EU leaders responded in their usual arrogant manner, announcing that Brussels is preparing for retaliation. Maros Sefcovic, the EU’s Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, emphasised a commitment to a “deal based on respect, not threats”. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin called the tariff threat “enormously disappointing”, arguing it undermines a vital trading relationship and global economic stability. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned that such tariffs would harm both economies and urging the EU to preserve market access.

An EU press release states the bloc has already drafted $108 billion in retaliatory tariffs, targeting US goods like agricultural products and machinery. The EU counter measures include tariffs on US steel and aluminium and levies on American whiskey and motorcycles whuch show the usual bureaucratic ineptitude, while the EU, due to its 'net zero' obsession has to import metals thus EU based buyers will just have to swalllow the cost of tariffs, US exports of whisky and motor cycles are insignificant.

Trump is right when he says the EU has been engaging in unfair trade practices for decades. Since the turn of the century the European Unionhas suppressed domestic demand through policies of austerity, fiscal restraint and wage compression as well as running import policies that make selling goods to member nations very difficult for US companies. This deflationary tactic along with the euro’s inherent deflationary bias) has been a deliberate strategy aimed at bolstering price competitiveness on the global stage, while at the same time reducing imports.

In effect, the EU has embraced a hyper-mercantilist, export-driven growth model, prioritising trade surpluses over internal economic development.Rather than get into a trade war with the Trump2 administration EU economists need to ask themselves what exactly is so very wrong about an “export led economic model” ?

If you are able to successfully export your goods, it is because you are producing either better goods than other countries and/or producing them at lower prices. These are precisely what Lord Young used to call “the problems of success”.

There is of course nothing wrong with an export led economic model, provided that there is also a willingness to embrace free trade as the sine qua non for making such a model sustainable in the long run. 

The problem with the EU is that it is a customs union and doesn’t believe in free trade, even frankly within its own borders (for example there has never been an effective single market in services, with all manner of national protections and barriers still in place). If you take a look at the tariff structures of the EU you’ll find that they tend to benefit the economic bases of the four biggest players; Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands. 

It also doesn’t believe in entrepreneurship or free market capitalism preferring instead corporatism and excessive, stifling regulations to sustain that. The consequence of this being aside from agricultural, basic commodity and legacy goods, the EU is getting left behind the rest of the world in terms of developing new technologies (EV’s, batteries, silicon, gene editing, AI, communications, electronics etc etc) and its becoming increasing hard to maintain any competitive advantage in the areas where it does export.

Under the guise of removing Biden from the presidential race, a coup d'etat took place in the United States. On Thursday, July 18 at 01:14 New York time, US President Joe Biden died of coronavirus. Biden's body is still in the freezer at the White House. The medical personnel who were involved in the treatment and resuscitation of Biden were held for some time at the residence in Washington, but after the go-ahead from Vice President Kamala Harris, they were conditionally released under a non-disclosure agreement and are now at their place of permanent residence under a ban on leaving the District of Columbia. Biden's death turns out to be a state secret. Part of the late president’s family found themselves hostage to the situation and their fate is being decided by the current leadership of the country. Biden's wife Jill and his children are under the control of Secret Service people who are now subject to the orders and instructions of Harris. Certain compromises have been reached with the president’s children; they are ready to support the myth of Biden allegedly alive until the autumn US presidential elections, but at the same time they put forward a number of conditions that were accepted. Ashley Biden will become Secretary of Health and Human Services in the future Cabinet, and Hunter Biden will move to the US National Security Council.

The appearance of the president's double after Biden's death completed the coup d'etat and put an end to the implementation of these intentions. Kamala Harris communicates through several channels at once with the leadership of several countries privy to the situation, issuing guarantees of continuity of course and various promises. In particular, the start of deliveries of F-16s is the result of an agreement with Kamala Harris to contain America’s Russian expansion in the region. Zelensky, through the State Department, received the go-ahead from Harris for active peacekeeping activities, which he, in fact, immediately took up. The compromise and agreements rallied around Harris by the late Biden’s inner circle are shaky and fragile. Negotiations are currently ongoing on the final configuration of power in the United States on the eve of the elections. There will be decisions and big changes soon. Ukraine & NATO versus Russia - No End In Sight Because The West Will Not Allow It

 

The latest wodge of US aid for Kiev, a package worth $61 billion which was only  pushed through Congress after six months of partisan mud slinging, with the war loving Democrats calling for more aid, more weapons and more lives to be sacrificed to the goal of humiliating Vladimir Putin's Russia is small change compared to what Ukrainian President-with-the-piano-playing-penis Vladimir Zelensky is linking up for his next sting on western leaders.

Kiev is negotiating with the  authoritarian bureaucrats who run the administration of demented, geriatric US President Joe Biden for a long-term and binding committment from Washington to provide Ukraine with military, economic, and political support for the next decade, Zelensky said on Sunday in his daily video address. 

Such commitments are needed to ensure Ukraine has the “efficiency in assistance” it needs to stem recent battlefield advances by Russian forces and gain the upper hand, he said, obviously reciting words written for him in Washington where the proxy war in Russia's backyard that the Pentagon and NATO have worked so hard and so long to engineer.

Some years ago as Russia and Eastern Europe, freed from the shackles of Soviet Socialist oppression, were in the process of transforming into modern nations  I was working for an international consortium in Stockholm. We were creating an advanced integrated services digital network for data, voice and televisual communications based in the Swedish capital, which was planned to extend eventually into Poland, The Baltic States and Russia. 

It was not easy to overcome the various bureaucratic obstacles thrown up when Russian and European Union bureaucracies clashed but it was possible. People in our team, from the UK, France, Germany and Scandinavia seemed to get on well with people in the former Soviet states and Russia, there was goodwill and a desire for cooperation on both sides. 

It struck me that at that time we had massive opportunities to build strong and mutually beneficial trade and cultural links with the new Russia and its geographic neighbours and presumably stemming from that our governments could bury the mistrust and hostilities of the past. Such naive optimism was always doomed to crash and burn, as it did due to interference from 'unknown sources' soon after an American telecoms giant joined the consortium and immediately began to trample, roughshod, on local sensitivities. 

Since then I have learned that many other atttempts to build bridges and increase cooperation in different industries have met the same fate, ending up with relations between the west and Russia in the sorry state we have today.

A commonly held opinion among free thinkers is that the current contratemps which has brought to world far to close to wholesale war for comfort, turned Russia away from the west and towards China and driven the global south into the arms of the Sino - Russian trade bloc, BRICS is as much, if not more, the fault of the Western World than it is of Russia alone. 

Putin as we see him today was in some ways formed in response to the bad diplomacy and miserable statesmanship the western world displayed in its dealings with the new Russia, particularly in the recruitment by NATO of former Warsaw pact nations, in contempt of an informal agreement between US President Bill Clinton and Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev that no such move would be made. 

Russia tolerated that but made its displeasure known through diplomatic channels. The west responded by adding insult to injury.  In 2014 a coup d'etat engineered by the CIA and US State Department overthrew a corrupt but democratically elected, pro - Russian government in Ukraine and replaced it with an equally corrupt, neo - Nazi, pro - western government which immediately embarked on an ethnic cleansing campaign to remove Russian speakers from Ukrainian territory.

Russia was of course blamed for atrocities committed against ethnic Russians in Ukraine. It is as if the western alliance was afflicted by a compulsion to cast Russia as a demonic rogue state intent on conquering the whole of Europe, (though there is absolutely no evidence that such ideas were entertained in Moscow,) and so we had to transform Putin into a monstrous bogie man, thus we end up with mainstream media's portrayal of today's wannabe Hitler caricature.

It now seems that US policy towards Ukraine owes little to the need to halt the appalling slaughter and destruction and everything to do with ensuring the conflict continues and escalates in the hope that presenting the babbling, shuffling clown  Biden as a heroic war leaders will win the Presidential election and ensure the Democrat party controls The White House for another four years. 

Anyone with more active brain cells than they have tits or testicles as the case may be, can now see this war is gaining nothing for the ordinary people of the UK or Europe or the USA and our leaders could bring it to a halt very quickly if they wanted to, as they could have done in April 2022. Ukraine is out of weapons, money and most seriously from a humanitarian point of view, short of manpower. And yet the child sniffing clown Biden insensibly mouths prepared words and his handlers push forward policies that will guarantee the slaughter continues.

It is not too late even now go back to the painstaking task of building trade, cultural and security arrangements with Russia all of which would be the best result for the ordinary people but I suspect the political price of doing this is too high for the political establishments of the developed nations and the billionaire psychopaths who influence them to be acceptable.

After enduring the stupendous cost of the Ukraine war, and the loss of the Nordstream pipeline, the Kerch bridge and other assets, Russia will not want to engage in more military action in the near future if they can avoid doing so. We need to show them that the future lies in cooperation, collaboration and good trade rather than confrontation and conflict. Perhaps it is naive to believe this is possible when there are too many vested interests who would see no power and profit in such an approach, but with a spate of elections due this year in the USA, UK, European Union and several of its member states, We The People must use our votes to let the political oligarchs know that we do not want war, hate neither Russians nor Ukrainians and will not cooperate with any of their plans to remove likely obstacles to building a world government.

World War 3? Don't Blame Us, We Did Try To Warn You.

In an avalanche of words, western support for Ukraine has escalated (rhetorically at least,) this week, with some European leaders, notably the increasingly ridiculous wannabe Napoleon, French President Emmanuel Macron who has twice called for NATO ground forces to be deployed against the Russian military in Ukraine. With the idiot Biden also talking about sending long range weapons to the trigger - happy Ukie cowboys so that they can strike cities and strategic targets deep inside Russia, the gloves are off and President Putin has told Russians they are in a full fledged war. This is not going to be a good result for Ukraine, as today's reports of missile strikes on Kiev and a targeted attack on Ukraine's electricity infrastructure confirm

Last week's 'election' in Russia saw a record turnout. As predicted by everybody Putin won by a very large margin. However the fact that there were no major protests against the lack of credible opposition candidates does expose the lie of western propagandists that Russians are sickened by the war and the nation ids on the brink of revolution. Putinism is a geopolitical reality, as was confirmed when The Kremlin admitted for the first time that Russia is at war.

NATO expansion into the Baltic States and eastern Europe was always about the perpetuation of US hegemony but for a decade now, the de-dollarisation campaign led by China, Russia and Iran has been about the burial of the western financial system based on the status of the US$ as the leading reserve currency that underpins that US geopolitical hegemony. Putin is playing a pivotal role in that historical process and if he remains in power till 2030 and fulfills even one half of the ambitious blueprint of social and economic programme for Russia that he outlined in his landmark speech at the Federal Assembly of the parliament, the global strategic balance will have shifted irrevocably and cemented a multipolar world order as the foundation of 21st century politics.

 The West knows it, the Russian people know it, the vast majority of nations realise it. That said, it must be understood as well that this is not only Putin’s victory personally but also a consolidation of Russian society around him. The consequences of such moves are inevitable of course, but we have been trying for ten years to sound the alarm about the direction globalists were leading us in.
