German Farmers target nation's vice chancellor in subsidies protest

Angry farmers drive through the city in a convoy, with a poster reading "OLAF? [ referring to Chancellor Scholz ] Oath of office forgotten?" blocking the ferry port in Schluettsiel on the North Sea coast

German farmers angered by cost-saving plans impacting the country's agricultural sector blocked the EU state’s vice chancellor from disembarking a ferry on Thursday, in a protest that was criticized by both government and opposition figures. The farmer's ager was triggered by financial cutbacks imposed by EU policy on member state’s agricultural industries have.

Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, a Green Party politician who also serves as Germany’s economy and climate ministernd has made himself unpopular by forcing loonytoons Green encironmental policies on the fragile coalition that governs Germany, was prevented from getting back to dry land after returning to the mainland from the offshore island of Hooge, where spent the Christmas and New Year break. A police spokesman said farmers blocked the landing stage in Schluettsiel, forcing Habeck to return to the island.

More than 100 farmer took part in the blockade according to the police statement, with around 30 officers on the scene, some of whom used pepper spray to quell the disturbance.

SDP Party leader and Chancellor Olaf Scholz has been heavily criticised heavily by farmers after his unpopular government announced plans to cut back agricultural sector subsidies as part of a broader package intended to plug a €17 billion ($18.6 billion) deficit in Germany’s 2024 budget. Farmers staged a massive protest in Berlin last month, when the city was gridlocked by slow moving tractors disrupting traffic flows on the main roads and busiest streets. The German Farmers Union and have promised there will be further demonstrations which will continue until Chancellor Scholz and the government change course.

A spokesperson for Habeck told DPA that he would have been happy to discuss the subsidies row with the farmers, but that “the security situation did not allow for a dialogue with all farmers,” later adding that an “offer made by Minister Habeck to talk face to face with individual farmers was unfortunately not accepted.”

On Thursday (January 4) the government announced it would partially roll back the planned measures. It said it would retain car-tax exemptions on farming vehicles, while also introducing reductions in fuel tax for diesel used in agricultural settings.

The German Farmers’ Assocation rejected all the government’s amendments, that the politicians must engage in collective negotiations with the industry and not with individuals and that protests planned for next week would go ahead as planned.

An aide of Chancellor Scholz, Steffen Hebestreit, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the blockade of Habeck’s ferry was “shameful and violates the rules” of a functioning society. Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said the protest “discredits the cause of many farmers who demonstrate peacefully.”

Meanwhile, Hendrik Wust of the opposition Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) wrote on social media that “this transgression is absolutely unacceptable” and that the incident “must have consequences.” These comments reveal the growing alienation of Germany's political establishment from the people

Germany’s budgetary changes were forced on the governing coalition when its highest court reversed an earlier plan to cut by €60 billion ($66 billion) funds originally earmerked for sectors damaged by the Covid-19 pandemic to other measures, including climate-change mitigation.

Germany Forcing Farmers To Use LESS Fertilizer To Satisfy EU’s Green Agenda

Germany haemorrhaging cash to keep country running on as ‘net zero’ becomes zeroeconomic activity
Germany was so desperate to achieve 'net zero' CO2 emissions that for years the country's government closed its fossil fuel-fired and nuclear power plants, replacing those plants with wind and solar power — as well as impoorting huge volumes of natural gas and oil from Russia. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, when NATO (aka the U.S.A.) mandated that the West impose retaliatory sanctions on Russia, including a ban on importation of Russian gas and oil, Germany found itself in a hole:

Germany is Now A “Total Dictatorship” Says Dutch Journalist
A Dutch journalist has claimed that Germany is now a “total dictatorship”. This may seem like a case of the pot calling the kettle black given the Dutch government's plan to evict up to 3000 farmer from their land and return those acreages 'to nature' in a bid to lead the way among EU member states, to enforce total compliance with the latest loonytoons EU climate policy which requires EU members to reduce that dangerous pollutant nitrogen, which accounts for 78% of the air we breathe ...

Common Sense Prevails: Germany Is Dismantling Wind Turbines To Make Room For Coal Mining
We have learned vial a piece in OilPrice.com that turbines at a wind farm in western Germany are being dismantled to allow for the expansion of open cast coal mining operations at an adjacent site. The propsal to increase output at the Garzweiler open-pit lignite coal mine has been described as a “paradoxical” situation given that in recent years the German government has been pushing ahead with the closure of coal and nuclear generating plant to appease its nutty but powerful Green party ... Another EU Member State's Globalist Government Collapses
We have recently been happy to report the victory of Georgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy, the defeat of Sweden's Social Democrat led coalition by a centreist group which includes the Eurosceptic Sweden Democrats, the resurgence of Germany's AfD and France's Rassemblement National. But somehow The Netherlands seemed immune to this trend. In spite of threats of a political upheaval, Prime Minister Mark Rutte somehow managed to stay in power election after election.

Minister's Claim That 40% UK Energy Comes From Renewables Is Technically Illiterate
Britain's newly installed Secretary of State for Energy, Grant Shapps, is still learning the job so perhaps we should cut him some slack, but even so a statement he made on our energy supply today shows astounding ignorance of technical details relating to his portfolio.
Answering a question in Parliament this morning about Britain's ability to reach its target of getting 40% of our energy needs from sustainable sources, Shapps sneered that it was not possible for us to reach 40% now as we already get 43% from wind. Unfortunately the sneering sarcasm was misplaced but served to reveal the man in charge of energy policy does not know the difference between energy and electricity.
