Double Blow To Irish Woke Wonks - Voters Reject ‘Progressive’ Reforms to the Constitution By Big Majorities

11 March 2024,

Picture: The Platform

Simpering, limp wristed Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar whose government has faced protests because it is claimed they govern in the interests of the Dublin Gay Mafia liberal elite and ignore the collective opinion of the Irish people, suffered two major blows to his ambition to turn deeply conservative Ireland into the wokest country in Europe last weekend.

Varadkar admitted on Saturday that voters had delivered “two wallops” to the government, which, led by Leo himself, had pushed for a "Yes" vote on a pair of March 8 referendums.

Almost 68% of Irish voters rejected the so-called “Family Amendment,” referendum which would have removed a clause about the importance of marriage and family to society from Ireland’s 1937 constitution and legally redefined “family” as either “founded on marriage or on other durable relationships,” thus erasing words like woman and mother from the constitution.

The woke wakerati all over the developed world are of course obsessed with replacing gender specific nouns and pronouns with neutral terms. While screeching about the 'right' of people to be legally recognised as whatever they 'identify' as, they are determined to rob the majority of us if indentities we inherited at birth and are perfectly happy with.

The other topic on the voting paper, the so called “Care Amendment,” which would have removed a clause noting that the “state recognizes that by her life within the home, woman gives to the state a support without which the common good cannot be achieved," was rejected by an even bigger majority, with 74% of voters saying "No".

Ireland’s main political parties and other influential groups along with most of the media strongly backed the well-funded referendum initiative, while conservative groups and the country’s Catholic bishops urged a “No” vote on both measures.

“This decision by the Irish electorate sends a powerful message about the importance of preserving foundational values in the face of sweeping societal changes,” A spokesman for Family Solidarity, an Irish conservative group that advocates for traditional values which opposed both the constitutional amendments, said in a statement Saturday.

“This victory is not just a rejection of a specific referendum proposal; it is a declaration by the people of Ireland that the core unit of society — the family based on marriage — must remain protected and cherished. It underscores a collective desire to maintain the integrity of societal values that have long been the bedrock of our nation.”

Critics of the amendments argued that the bill — the vote for which took place on International Women’s Day — removed terms like “women” and “mother” from the constitution while introducing the vague term “durable relationship,” the meaning of which was hotly debated.

The “Care Amendment” in particular would  also have removed an article of the Irish Constitution that said “the state shall, therefore, endeavor to ensure that mothers shall not be obliged by economic necessity to engage in labor to the neglect of their duties in the home.”

The above clause has recently been a major irritant to men like Varadkar and his 'husband'

These offending clauses were to  have been replaced by an article noting that the state will “strive to support” the care that “members of a family” give to one another “without which the common good cannot be achieved.” Clearly that was intended to pave the way for same sex parents and transgender parents to have equal status with natural parents.

“The people of Ireland have spoken and given this government and the parties in opposition a walloping,” Sharon Keogan, an Independent Irish senator, posted on X (formerly Twitter.)

“Women do not want to be reduced to non-gender language,” she said. “I, for one, did not view the erasure of the words ‘woman’ or ‘mother’ as something worthy of being progressed. Thankfully this country agreed.”

EU Panic Grows As Quitaly Fears Spread

Quitaly? Will Italy follow Britain out of the EU?

With a referendum in Italy, ostensibly on constitutional reforms but perceived as a referendum on the leadership of the ruling elite, looming in November and the anti - globalisation,  pro sovereignty Five Star Party growing in popularity all the time, their latest boost coming earlier this week when Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi binned the previous city authority's proposed bid to host the 2024 Olympics, saying that solving everyday problems such as garbage disposal and homelessness must take priority over vanity projects.

Should the constitutional changes be voted down, and the against campaign is showing a comfortable lead in opinion polls at the moment, it will put a Quitaly in-out referendum, similar to the so called Brexit vote that kick off the process of Britain leaving the European Union, at the top of the agenda.

This blog, along with many other commentators, including mainstream media publications have predicted since the creation of the single currency system which in 2001 saw seventeen member of the 28 member Union adopt the Euro as their common currency EU. Until the last five years however, all the talk in the EU's Brussels headquarters and the European Parliament in Strasbourg was of closer economic and political integration. So what's changed you might well ask. What is it that has turned things around and made the unthinkable into the inevitable?

The European Union has evolved, or devolved to be accurate, from a simple a free trade pact among a few countries to a giant, dysfunctional, overreaching bureaucracy. I say 'devolved' because as a free trade club, the European Economic Community seemed a benign and positive thing. The truth is from the start, from its inception as the Common Market, the EU was intended to eventually become a single, federal superstate based on the ideas of Adolf Hitler's Nazis and a few other deeply unpleasant global view thinkers.

Free trade is an excellent idea of course. However, you don't need to legislate or regulate free trade, that’s almost a contradiction in terms. A free trade pact between different governments is unnecessary for free trade. An individual country interested in prosperity and freedom only needs to eliminate all import and export duties, all import and export quotas, and all subsidies be they for boosting exports or protecting domestic industry. When a country has duties or quotas or uses subsidies as a form of protectionism, it is not interested in free trade, only in boosting its own economy at the expense of others. Businesses should trade with whoever they want for their own advantage.

The Eurocrats, unelected bureaucrats who first inflitrated the management structure of the EU (we will refer to 'the EU' rather than using the various designations that have been used over the life of the organisation. , instead, created a trade treaty the size of the Tokyo  telephone book, regulating everything to the most minute detail. The problem with the European Union is the ruling bureaucrats claim it is about free trade, but really it’s about somebody’s arbitrary idea of “fair trade,” which amounts to regulating everything. In addition and constraining member states to trade only with those nations that comply with the labyrinthine rules and regulations dictated by Brussels bureaucrats. Brussels has become another highly stratified bureaucracy on top of all the national layers local layers for of bureaucracy the average European business to deal with.
The European Union in Brussels is composed of a class of bureaucrats that are extremely well paid, have tremendous benefits, and have their own self-referencing little culture. They’re exactly the same kind of people that live within the Washington, D.C. beltway, London's Westminster Village and in the United Nations Plaza in New York. They believe in the infallibility of 'experts', the omnicience of managerialism and the supremacy of statistics.

The EU was built upon a foundation of sand, a belief that statistics and psychology could manipulate people into cultural conformity and social regimentation. Global view thinkers, such as eugenics advocate Richard Coudenhove - Kalergi believe the lower strata of society, the masses, were not capable of thinking for themselves. Thus the 'European Project doomed to failure from the very start, the idea that all would become subservient to collectivist ideology was idiotic because the Swedes and the Sicilians are as different from each other as the Poles and the Irish. There are linguistic, religious, and cultural differences, and big differences in the standard of living and shared aspirations.

Artificial political constructs can never last because they must marginalise the masses. The EU is great for the “elites” in Brussels, but has restricted the freedoms of average citizens, most visibly in recent years, in the cause of accommodating huge numbers of unskilled, uneducated and culturally inflexible third world immigrants who demand their host nation changes to assimilate their cultural and social mores.

Meanwhile internal pressures are acting to drive member states apart politically. Tying the currency used by the weakest economies of the Union to the German industrial powerhouse was a folly as great as pitting a donkey against a thoroughbred racehorse in a race. In Spain, the Basques and the Catalans, angry at the way their regional and ethnic cultures have been eroded by E U rules want to split off, in the UK, the Scots want to make the United Kingdom quite a bit less united, and in Quitaly there has been talk of the indistrialised northern states separating from the agrarian south. It is necessary remember that before Garibaldi created the modern nation, Italy a geographical area comprising scores of city states, dukedoms and principalities, all speakin local dialect variations of the Italian language. The same was true of Germany only united by Bismarck in 187O.

Citizens of Venice voted by a large majority to separate from Italy a couple of years ago. In the South Tyrol region, where 70% of the people speak German, a strong independence movement as sprung up. There are separatist movements in Corsica and a half dozen other departments in France. Even in Belgium, the home of the EU, the chances are that French speaking Wallonia and Flemish Flanders will separate sooner rather than later.

The chances are better in the future that the remaining countries in Europe are going to fall apart as opposed to being compressed together artificially by the often touted policy of 'ever closer integration' proposed by its accredited founder Jean monnet, and the aforementioned Coudenhove - Kalergi.

And as globalists like to describe themselves as liberal and progressive, from a philosophical point of view, the target should not be a single world government which only benefits the “elite” but many small individual governments of culturally, economically and socially coherent mini - states. That would be much more in line with the classical liberal principles of individual freedom personal development that an all powerful, hierarchic bureaucracy forcing conformity and social engineering on people.

Brexit will be the pebble that starts the avalanche, other countries will begin to move towards leaving the EU. Italy looks like being the next at the moment. All of the Italian banks are truly and totally bankrupt at this point and while Italian banks were never the most stable, the current situation is due entirely to the national enconomy being tied to the Euro. The only possible way to save Italy is to get rid of the euro and leave the EU.

EU’s Juncker under pressure to resign after Brexit vote

Source: EurActiv

EU Commission President Jean - Claude Jucker gets down to the serious business of running Europe (image source)

Pressure is building on Jean-Claude Juncker to resign as President of the European Commission following the UK referendum, with the Czech Republic leading calls for him to “change the habits” of the  executive after last week’s Brexit referendum in the UK.
Juncker is not the “right man for the job” and should resign, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomír Zaorálek said on Monday (27 June).
The Czech minister said someone in the EU institutions should take “responsibility” for last week’s vote by British citizens to leave the EU.

“Right now I can’t see the European Commission chairman as the right man for the job,” Zaorálek told Czech television.

Asked whether Juncker had decided to resign or not, EU Commission chief spokesperson Margaritis Schinas said the answer was in two letters, and the first one was “N”.

Asked by EurActiv.com about the consequences of the Brexit vote on the European Commission, Schinas replied it was not the EU executive who called the UK referendum.

“So the ones who must draw conclusions from this are the ones who called the referendum,” Schinas said.

EurActiv spoke to other diplomats from Eastern Europe, who didn’t go as far as calling for Juncker’s resignation.
But one admitted his country could join a motion to sack Juncker at a two-day EU summit opening in Brussels tomorrow (28 June)

– “if there was such a motion”.

“The situation is changing by the hour. We need to send messages to our public that yes, we can change Brussels, so that it listens. There were many things done wrong and we must talk about that openly,” a diplomat from Central Europe told a group of journalists.
Juncker is blamed in particular for the harsh statements he made on Brexit – saying “out is out”  – and his push to start divorce negotiations immediately with the UK.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel sees things differently and appears in no rush to pressure UK Prime Minister David Cameron to trigger Article 50, which would open a two-year negotiation process to withdraw Britain from the EU. She sees the possibility that to rush the process could destabilise Europe.

EU Will 'Gradually Unravel' With or Without the UK - MEPs

Two senior members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have gone on record as saying it does not mater if UK voters choose to leave the EU or Remain in the referendum on June 23, the European Union must radically reform or it will "gradually unravel". Unfortunately as has been demonstrated and as is programmed in its history which goes back the the Nazi regime in 1930s Germany, the EU cannot reform. It was designed to be a bureaucratic dictatorship that would eventually subsume all Europe's member states and can be nothing else.

Read a free e-book about Hitler's role in founding the EU online or download as a .pdf

The UK referendum will be the biggest test of public opinion on the EU for more than 40 years. Recent municipal and regional elections in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Austria have indicated a growing anger with EU bureaucracy and authoritarianism across Europe, but the signs are the UK vote will be an establishment stitch up resulting in a victory for Remain.

This would be similar to what happened in a recent government election in Austria when opinion polls sowed an anti EU candidate comfortably ahead but the result, a narrow victory for the pro EU candidate was secured by a late surge in postal votes. Legal repercusssions of the result are still going on as analysts found that in several districts over 100% of those entitled to vote did so (In one district 149% or registered cast their votes and all the votes cast were for the pro - EU candidates. That of course is typical of elections in a tyranny or bureaucratic dictatorship.

The ruling EUronazis, the European Commission are frightened by the growing Euroskepticism which is not confined to Britain but runs throught the twenty eight member states, so they will pull every dirty trick they can to thwart efforts to free the UK of some of the bureaucracy of Brussels. And if all else fails, then they will act on what one of the most brutal tyrants in history, former Soviet leader Josef Stalin said: "It's not who votes that counts but who counts the votes."

Netherlands MEP Hans van Baalen, a spokesman for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe party president, wrote — in an opinion column on EUObserver:

"The UK is a crucial ally of the Netherlands in the EU and provides a counterweight against French-German dominance. Moreover, the Dutch and Brits are pushing in Brussels for the same agenda: eliminating unnecessary regulation, empowering national parliaments on European legislation (red card), completing the internal market and negotiating more free trade agreements to foster economic growth and jobs. "

Meanwhile, Guy Verhofstadt, the former prime minister of Belgium and leader of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) of the European Parliament has said:

Le référendum britannique doit être le point de départ de la refondation de l'#Europe, quel que soit le résultat du scrutin

(The British referendum must be the starting point of remaking the Europe, whatever the result of the vote.)

Van Baalen said: "The UK offers an historic opportunity to rebuild Europe, improve democratic functioning and makes for more effective governance. The only way forward is the way of reforms. The deal brokered by UK Prime Minister [David] Cameron and the other 27 EU member states needs to be implemented, preferably with, but if necessary, without the Brits".

At the February European summit, Cameron won a series of concessions from other member states, on the grounds that as the hub of the British Commonwealth and holder of one of the four global reserve currencies, britain needed more financial flexibility than other EU nations, although the EU Commission said it would block any attempt to implement the reforms.

Chief among the reforms discussed was the right to withhold in-work benefits for EU migrant workers in the UK for up to four years. The referendum debate has been dominated by the issue of migrant workers — not all from within the EU — and their ability to claim generous welfare benefits.

Cameron also proposed reducing bureaucracy, making it easier for EU member nations to trade with non EU nations, the non-discrimination of non-Eurozone members and the 'red card' agreement that allows member states to veto proposed EU legislation in future.

Verhofstadt said the UK would be "stupid" to withdraw from Europe, saying the EU should change to one that "really works" with a much smaller European Commission — which currently has 28 portfolios — reduced to 12, a smaller government and a European border and coast guard and defense community. This is contradictory, if the EU needs to reform but will not reform (and if reforms were agreed in principle there are twenty eight different ideas of what reforms would work best) then Britain would be wise to quit as soon as possible.

Little Englanders Jibe Lost The Debate And Probably The Referendum For Camereon

In spite of the crude and bungled attempt to rig last night TV debate, with ITV placing race-baiting plants in the audience whose task was to shout down Nigel Farage with idiotic accusations, and appointing a weak moderator who allowed REMAIN supporters in the audience to talk over Farage but was quick to cut off the several audience members whose questions had Cameron waffling, the UKIP leader was judged the winner.

The main thing we learned from the debate is that the establishment will try to rig the referendum. 150% of people elegible to vote by post actually casting votes perhaps?

It was easy to pinpoint the moment Cameron lost the debate and his job too in all probability. it was when he referred to LEAVE supporters as "Little Englanders". Not only did he antagonise a lot of undecideds, he showed one again how far out of touch with the public mood he is. And by using the term Little Englanders in entirely the wrong context (as lefties have for years) he showed he's a lazy bastard who can't be arsed doing his research.

The "Little England" movement originated among manufacturers in Manchester and found support among journalists such as Goldwin Smith and politicians like William Gladstone, one of the founders of the UK Liberal Party. The movement objected to the protectionist stance of Canada exemplified by the tariff increase of 1859. The manufacturers resented paying taxes to defend a colony that took few British goods when Canada could be absorbed by the United States, which was an independent country and Britain's best customer outside Europe. Canada had some importance as a supplier of wheat and timber to Britain, but its climate and northerly location meant that it had no significance for Manchester's cotton industry.

There was also a social element to the movement. The Manchester School resented the Empire for providing sinecures for the sons of the aristocracy when the same money could be used for tax breaks and public spending projects at home.

The Little England stance was adopted by the Liberal Party and embraced by its rising star Gladstone (1809-1898), a social reformer who opposed many of Britain's military adventures in the second half of the 19th century and was particularly incensed by the behaviour of Britain's colonial administrations towards naitive populations. Gladstone, though devoutly religious, did not accept the need to impose British religious and cultural traditions on people in the colonies.

The Little Englander movemement is particularly associated with opposition to the Second Boer War (1899–1902). For example, Arthur Ponsonby wrote of the Liberal leader Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman's opposition to the Boer War: "The impression one got of him from the Press in those days was… that he was an unpatriotic Little Englander"

In a nutshell then, Little Englanders were opposed to political or cultural colonialism and therefore were true believers in diversity.

In other words, the Little Englander movement was a left-of-centre, "progressive" movement of its day.

Quitaly? Will Italy follow Britain out of the EU?

With a referendum in Italy, ostensibly on constitutional reforms but perceived as a referendum on the leadership of the ruling elite, looming in November and the anti - globalisation, pro sovereignty Five Star Party growing in popularity all the time. Should the constitutional changes be voted down, and the against campaign is showing a comfortable lead in opinion polls at the moment, it will put a Quitaly in-out referendum, similar to the so called Brexit vote that kick off the process of Britain leaving the European Union, at the top of the agenda.

The Brexit vote, the decision by a democratic majority in Britain to leave the European Union has sent shockwaves around the world. Not only does the EU now face a tsunami of departures, the usurpation of democracy by 'experts' ( technocrats ) has been challenged and exposed as a sham.

Dutch Referendum This Week Shows why We Should Leave The EU.

Few of you were aware probably that there is an EU referendum vote in The Netherlands this week. Silicon Valley's War On Free Speech: Google Plays Politics

Google, the biggest search company on the internet by huge margin, has, after allegedly to collaborate with the unelected EU Commission to influence the British Referendum vote on continued membership of the increasingly authoritarian bureaucratic dictatorship that is emerging from what was sold as a simple free trade arrangement between European Nations, buried a popular eurosceptic website on the second page of search results on the topic, the website’s founder, Dr. Richard North has claimed.

He said the Internet giant is "corrupt" (we've been telling you that since 2005, and its not just Google; Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and most ISPs and cellular networks also collaborate with governments and supranational bureaucracies to pervert democracy and advance an agenda that would impose on us a global, totalitarian government.) North's remarks also implied Google supports a pro-European Union (EU) agenda, just one day after the EU revealed it is working with Facebook, Twitter and (Google-owned) YouTube to promote “alternative narratives” it supports.

Just yesterday, Google’s public policy and government relation’s director, Lie Junius, said the firm was, “pleased to work with the [European] Commission” – the EU’s unelected executive arm.

Over seventy per cent of Internet searches are made on Google (eff knows why, it's a shitty search technology). It is the primary source of information for low - infoprmation voters today and has been estimated to command the power to decide the voting preference of 80 per cent for some demographics, particularly those under the age of forty.

Its role in the tight-run EU referendum, therefore, could be influential.

So when the popular and eurosceptic EUReferendum website recently disappeared off Google’s first page of results on the topic – after being the top result for the topic on search engines for more than a decade – eyebrows were raised. But Google has a long record of penalizing sites which promote political points of view that differ from the politically correct prejudices of the semi - autistic nerds who control the company.

EU Referendum was founded in 2004 by author and researcher Richard North and was rated by the Financial Times as the UK’s most influential political blog in 2006. It remains the top result for the topic when searched on Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing (and rates highly on DuckDuckGo, Good Gopher and StartPage.

But on Google now, it appears as either the 13th or 15th result, on the second page – below three government pages on the topic, four links to the pro-EU Guardian and Independent newspapers, one to the BBC, and just one to the more eurosceptic Telegraph.

EU Cuts Growth Forecasts as Big Economies Falter

The EU has cut its optimistic forecasts of economic growth for all member states in 2014 and 2015 to less than 1% of GDP per annum. UK Conservative Politician Says Referendum Is An Establishment Stitch Up

The EU referendum campaign is really starting to warm up now as various polls show wildly different figures for the REMAIN and LEAVE campaigns. Nobody really knows why but telephone polls tend to show big leads for REMAIN while online polls are indicating narrow leads, with upward momentum for LEAVE. What this might suggest other than that REMAIN supporters are the kind of clowns who spend all their time dicking about on their smartphones and who will be unable to vote unless somebody sends them an app that will make up their minds for them is unclear.

While the REMAIN campaign is based totally on fearmongering (if we leave the EU nobody will want to be our friend), the LEAVE people are not short of that commodity either, but at least their claims have some basis in reality.

Britain will be unable to stop Turkey from becoming a member of the European Union (EU), the Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Penny Morduant, has said. Predicting that up to a million Turkish people could come to the UK unless Britain votes to leave the EU in June, declared that the EU referendum is an “establishment stitch-up”.

This may be a coincidence but earlier today we were reporting on another stitch up perpetrated by EU agencies and the political establishment of a member state, in this case Austria, where after holding a solid lead with only twelve per cent of the votes to be counted, the anti - immigration, anti - EU candidate was narrowly beaten amid evidence of voting irregularities (149% voter turnout in one area with a high immigrant population).

Speaking on BBC television, Ms. Mordaunt said it was very likely that a million Turkish migrants would come to the UK over the next eight years if the British public opt to stay within the EU, in part because of the "migrant crisis." Turkey has a population of around 80 million. Mordaunt pointed out that Home Secretary [Theresa May], a supporter of Remain, made a speech earlier in the campaign revealing EU plans to extend Europe's economic community way beyond the geographical borders of the continent and into eastern Asia and north Africa and questioning the merits of the EU having a land border with Syria, Iraq and Iran and visa free travel arrangements with Egypt, Lybia and Algeria.

Morduant shot down the notion that the British people had a veto on whether Turkey joins, saying "We are not going to be able to have a say." What she means is we will not get to vote on it. Although the British government does have a veto on Turkey joining the EU, Mordaunt made it clear that Gayid Cameron has expressed his enthusiasm for getting Tukey into the EU, shortly after Cameron's bum chum Obama had said Turkey belogs in Europe (this showing that history and geography are not among his adademic strengths either)thus the British people would not be consulted on the matter. She added: "This is a matter for the British people I think to decide and the only shot that they will get at expressing a view on this is in this referendum."

As the Prime Minister David Cameron has made it clear that he welcomes Turkey joining the EU, Ms Mordaunt’s suggestion is that the veto would go unused, against the will of the British people. She agreed with Andrew Marr’s suggestion that the EU referendum is turning out to be “an establishment stitch up.”

Her comments directly contradict those of David Cameron, who has insisted that Turkey will not be joining the EU any time soon. Slapping down Ms Mordaunt yesterday, he joked that it will be the year 3,000 before Turkey is able to join.

"It is not remotely on the cards that Turkey is going to join the EU any time soon,” he told ITV’s Robert Peston shortly after Mordaunt’s interview.

"They applied in 1987. At the current rate of progress they will probably get round to joining in about the year 3000 according to the latest forecasts."

The traitor and war criminal Cameron is a two faced shit however. Officially, the government supports Turkish accession, a position which a Downing Street spokesman confirmed this morning has not changed. The spokesman added: “The Prime Minister has made it clear that he would veto any new country joining the EU if it wasn’t in Britain’s interests” – a statement which suggests the Prime Minister is attempting to spin his way out of the hole his love of the EU and glonalism has dug for him.

Leave campaigners have asked why, if the government is likely to veto Turkey joining the EU, we are contributing to Brussels spending £2 billion on helping Ankara to prepare their application. "If it isn’t on the cards why are taxpayers footing the bill for it already?” a spokesman for the official Leave campaign said. "As with so much in the referendum the remain campaign are saying one thing now before the vote but are planning for the exact opposite after 23 June."

Commenting on Cameron's double talk, former Foreign Secretary Lord Owen added: "Only 9 weeks ago David Cameron committed the country at the European Council to re-energise the accession process of Turkey into the EU. The EU is continuing the preparatory work for Turkey at an accelerating pace with all of this going forward in parallel."

Britain's Choice: Democracy Or Eurocracy

Democracy in the European Union: The people = one vote, the bureaucracy = millions of votes - because, and I quote, "The people are not intelligent enough to understand complex issues".

As we have commented before, it is not just a large section of British public opinion that want's to get our country out of Europe. Last week voters in The Netherlands voted by a big majority against the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, which would be a step towards fast - tracking the accession of war torn, economic basket case Ukraine to full membership of the EU, and is being pushed by Brussels.

There is little chance the Dutch vote will be acted on, the European Union's ruling bureaucracy has previously shown its contempt for the democratic process and public opinion, notably in the rejection of an Irish referendum a few years ago that rejected The Lisbon Treaty, an agreement which transferred sovereign rights from elected parliaments to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, and in the way democratically elected Greek and Italian governments were replaced by EU appointees after refusing to adopt punitive austerity measure imposed by the EU, after the economic crisis engineered by the EU Commission and the global bankers brought about the near collapse of those nations.

It may not be generally known among voters of the twenty eight member states but The EU is embarked on an irrevocable expansionist agenda that would see the ruling bureaucracy spread its tentacles into Africa and the middle east. Foremost among the expansion targets are the terrorist state Turkey and another economic basket case, Georgia

But at least voters in The Netherlands had the opportunity to make their feelings known. Unfortunately, Latvians do not have the kinds of opportunities the Dutch do, suggests Juris Paiders, the head of the Latvian Journalists' Union.

Commenting on the Dutch vote in an op-ed for Latvia's nra.lv news hub, Paiders wrote that when it comes to democracy, the Latvian people don't have the same opportunities the Dutch.

"If such a non-binding referendum was held in Latvia, I am absolutely confident that the majority of the government's ruling coalition would simply spit on its results." This view is based on precedent according to Paiders. "This already happened [in 2003] when 80% of Latvians rejected our country's participation in the Iraq War, while the Latvian elite was at the forefront of the warmongers. Ultimately, Latvia was drawn into the war, the justification for which was falsified, and as a result, the region's security suffered."

Fortunately, Paiders continued, "the Netherlands is not Latvia. In Latvia the political elite, step by step, is liquidating democratic values. In Latvia, referendums and other forms of direct democracy are being replaced with a system of totalitarian punishments and prohibitions. Conversely, the Netherlands' largest parties have promised to take the will of the people into account."

"The Dutch referendum explains well why the ruling coalition in Latvia is so afraid of democracy. When referendums are factually banned, the political elite can do whatever it wants with the country. It can reduce spending on health and education, and allocate more funding for politically corrupt procurement schemes. It can [also] agree to speed up the EU's federalization, and remove all national boundaries, in spite of the attitudes of the majority of the people."

That's his opinion of the state of democracy in Latvia and it is not very encouraging. Many readers may jump to the conclusion that the former Soviet republic has not really wrapped its head round the basic concepts of democracy yet. But that would not be fair, because what is described as applying in Latvia is typical of the way the increasingly authoritarian bureaucracy in Brussels envisages the future of European member states' democratic governments, as mere rubber stamp wielders for decisions made in camera by the faceless people in the 'shadow government. Read more on the contempt in which European Union leaders hold the principle of democracy HERE, HERE and HERE.

Brussels Reaction to Dutch EU-Kiev Deal Vote Heats Up Brexit Issue

Brussels reaction to Dutch EU-Kiev deal vote brings to mind the way the unelected Kommissars who run the EU cynically dismissed the Irish referendum result that rejected the Lisbon treaty and further inflames the Brexit issue.
Though the vote in the Netherlands was only to ratify the EU / Ukraine association agreement, a step towards the accession of Ukraine to full EU membership it was widely seen as a test of public opinion on a number of issues, including the immigration crisis, the increasing encroachment of Brussels on national sovereignty, the failure to agree common policies on unepmployment, economic slowdown and response to the miiddle east war, while EU regulations hamstring any attempts to resolve those promlems locally.
