EU facing food crisis as Super El Nino Hits Harvest

by Xavier Connolly, 20 August 2026

A huge slump in crop yields will lead to higher grocery bills for consumers and more inflation, economists have warned, as Europe's hot dry summer looks set to drag on into the autumn. All this comes on top of the European Union's efforts to put farmers out of business in pursuit of their loonytoons net zero ambitions

Damaged corn in a field, San Daniele Po, Italy, June 23, 2026.

Farmers' organisations and GovernmentAgriculture departments across the Europe have warned of sharp drops in yields after  the continent has been hit by successive heatwaves this summer. Economists have said the losses are likely to push food prices higher in the coming months and will make many small farms, already hit by authoritarian EU measures, unable to make a profit from producing food.

June and July were among the hottest and dryest on record in western Europe, according to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, which warned of a “continued risk of heatwaves affecting much of Europe” through August and into September.

In France, one of the EU’s largest grain producers, groundwater reserves  are severely depleted across much of the country by early August that crop yields are expected to be significantly lower, according to the national geological survey.

In an extraordinary early forecast, Coceral, the industry body representing the cereals, oilseeds, rice and olive oil sectors, cut its estimates for grain crops in European countries, including the UK, to 286.6 million tonnes. This is around 9 million tonnes lower than its June estimate of 295.5 million tonnes and almost ten per cent down ob the 310 million tonnes harvested in 2025.

The outlook for maize has deteriorated further, with Coceral warning that heat stress is now affecting pollination in key growing regions. Further losses may be realised, as additional hot weather is forecast across other parts of the EU during the critical late summer growing period. These figures all point to food shortages and price inflation in the coming winter.

Tom Lancaster, land, food and farming analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said: “The June heatwave and drought came at a terrible time for European cereal farmers, hitting crop development and reducing yields across the continent. This will hit farmers in the pockets and undermining European food security at the same time.

But while the problem is obviously serious, far too many 'experts' are simply blaming 'climate change' without doing any research, even though numerous scientists have now broken ranks and said climate change is natural and there is no crisis. If so call climate change has caused this summer's drought and the resultant impact of water shortages on food production, what caused the one 50 years ago when global warming was not yet a thing.

The long, hot Summer of 1976 happened in the middle of an unusually cold decade, supposedly leading climate scientists of the day to warn of an imminent  new ice-age. How do the Warmageddonists  explain that?

Last Week WeWere Told The Rules Based Order Had Died - But It Has Been A Zombie For Decades

Attendees listen to President Donald Trump's remarks during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, January 21, 2026.
Picture: National Review

Late  last week, (January 19 to 23,) the most elite of the political and business elites gathered in Davos, Switzerland, for the annual jolly of the World Economic Forum. Apart from the usual waffle on themes like global cooperation, innovation, and sustainable growth, net zero, the oportuniies offered by AI and the quality of the obscenely expensive wines, foods and prostitutes on offer, there were a few shocks to the delicate systems of the gathered self - aggrandisers.

Shocks had been guaranteed from the moment US President Donald Trump announced he would attend. That alone was enough to trigger an outbreak of pearl clutching among the liberal chatterati.

The first and perhaps biggest shock came when Trump reiterated his claim that the USA had to take control of Greenland for the sake of western security.

It was not the first time Trump had said that the United States intends to take Greenland, one way or another. Before the Davos gang convened Washington had threatened to impose tariffs on European allies that resisted the move, and had threatened that the USA would pull out of NATO. Everybody knows that without American military strength the alliance is as significant as a gnat's fart in the hurricane force winds of Storm Donald so NATO’s obituary was proclaimed yet again. The United States, we are solemnly informed, can no longer be trusted as an ally and that it is even a predatory state. The West is finished.

Cue panic. Cue Davos. Cue the anguished cries of people who have not had to think seriously about the global power balance since the mid-1980s are suddenly faced with the prospect of conflict in the middle east and Iran causing economic chaos by closing the Strait of Hormuz, the spread of Chinese influence in Asia and Russian influence in Africa and the break up of NATO and the EU.

All of this reached something of crescendo last week when Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking with unusual frankness, acknowledged that the so-called liberal rules-based order was over. “Let me be direct,” he stated. “We are in the midst of a rupture not a transition.”

Carney delivered a frank assessment of how he views the direction of the world economy when he said international law and the longstanding U.S.-led, rules-based world order is over and middle powers like Canada must pivot to avoid falling prey to further "coercion" from powerful actors.

Carney said multilateralism and the "architecture of collective problem-solving" — relying on institutions like the World Trade Organization, the United Nations and Conference of the Parties (COP) for climate talks — has been "diminished" and countries have to accept they may have to go it alone more often than in the recent past.

"Many countries are drawing the same conclusions. They must develop greater strategic autonomy: in energy, food, critical minerals, in finance and supply chains.

"A country that cannot feed itself, fuel itself or defend itself has few options. When the rules no longer protect you, you must protect yourself," Carney said which unintentionally confirms that the USA claim on Greenland, a frozen wilderness with no food prouction, no industry, no economy other than handouts from Denmark and a population of 67,000.

Something that is not often mentioned but might become significant as Trump, having opened negotiations on Greenland, turns his attention to Iran, what comes after it is the Soviet parallel at the heart of Mark Carney’s Davos speech: he wasn’t just critiquing Western alliance politics, he was drawing on a very specific late-communist logic to illuminate how contemporary international order operates.

In that speech Carney explicitly invoked former Czech President Václav Havel’s The Power of the Powerless and its greengrocer parable about how late Soviet communist regimes were sustained through ritual compliance with a known falsehood rather than genuine belief, and adapted it to describe the U.S.-led “rules-based international order” as a similar “pleasant fiction” that middle powers have long performed support for despite knowing its selective application and coercive elements to gain access to trade, finance, and security.

Carney quoted Havel’s idea of “living within the lie,” stressing that the system’s power derives from performative pretense and that its fragility is exposed when participants refuse the script. He used this to urge countries and firms to “take down their signs” — reject the illusion of mutual benefit in economic integration, acknowledge the order’s hollowness, and build genuine coordination and strategic autonomy amid great-power rivalry rather than bilateral accommodation with a declining hegemon.

But the real question is not whether Carney is right about the passing of the “rules based world order" but why it has taken so long for people like him to notice. The answer lies in a comforting illusion: that American power had, post-1945, somehow transformed itself from self-interest into benign liberal principle.

As anyone who possesses a degree of familiarity with the history of American foreign policy will tell you, Trump's intention, (aka The Donroe Doctrine,) to disrupt the 'rules based order' so beloved by bueucrats like Carney and Keir Starmer is nothing new, the United States has always acted in its own interest. It has always treated international law as conditional. It has always exempted itself from rules it helped design when those rules became inconvenient. This is not a Trumpian innovation. It is how great powers behave. It is how the US has behaved for decades since the end of World War II, and how Britain behaved between the end of the Napoleonic Wars to the end of World War One, which left us seriously weakened and the USA grew economically and in military power. The American imperium has always been an axis of hypocrisy rather than an axis of democracy.

What has changed is not the way America exploits its power, but the moment at which the West's delusion of a liberal consensus, has finally been forced into daylight, as has the widespread depravity and corruption of the ruling elites with the release of the Epstein files..

Starmers Biggest Humiliation Yet As Trump Opposition Forces UK To Drop Chagos Handover Bill

 https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AA1UEptM.img?w=1200&h=928&m=4&q=65

 Diego Garcia (Picture:MSN.com )

Sir Keir Starmer has been forced to drop his Chagos Island Bill, which would have sealed the handover of the British Indian Ocean Territory, including the island of Diego Garcia with its huge and strategically important UK /US airbase after the US President forcefully expressed his country's opposition to the deal.

Trump, who had previously seemed happy with the Chagos deal, furiously condemned Britain's proposal to transfer the Indian Ocean archipelago to Mauritius earlier this week, describing it as "an act of great stupidity". Reports from Washington suggest the President had not previously been informed of the importance of Diego Garcia to US and UK security in the Indian Ocean area.

The blocking of this deal is the latest indication that Trump is ready to quit the United Nations and its many agencies, which in recent decades have repeatedly shown a bias towards left wing tyrants and terrorist states, and a definite anti - American / British approach to solving problems.

The legislation to move the deal forward had been scheduled for debate in the House of Lords on Monday but was postponed on Friday evening, according to The Telegraph.

The delay followed a  Conservative motion tabled on Friday morning, urging postponement of ratification to prevent potential violations of international law.

Conservative Members of Parliament (MPs) had raised concerns that proceeding would breach a 1966 UK-US treaty that enshrines British sovereignty over the island chain.

Reacting to the news, Dame Priti Patel said: “This is a major victory for everyone standing against Keir Starmer’s disgraceful Chagos Surrender.

The claim that this deal is an “immoral surrender” by the Starmer government is incorrect, negotiations were formally launched in November 2022 by the then-Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly while the Conservative government was in power. Going back further than that, the British position on Chgos Archipelago had become legally and diplomatically difficukt on the world stage since 2015, when the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which is part of the International Court of Justice ruled that: the UK’s “Marine Protected Area” around Chagos was illegal. This was followed by a 2019 advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) (basically a bunch of left wing lawyers who would not recognise justice if it ran up to them and pulled their pissers.), which stated that the UK’s detachment of the islands from Mauritius in 1965 was unlawful and that decolonisation was incomplete.

In spite of the fact that the only tenuous link between Mauritius and The Chagos, which are separated by 1000 miles of Indian Ocean, is that both were classed as British Overseas territories, these rulings were reinforced by the UN General Assembly and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS). Lawyrs opine that had the UK continued to ignore these international verdicts, it would have faced immediate court injunctions that could have rendered the operation of the Diego Garcia base illegal, effectively locking the US and UK out of their own facility.

The UN resolution gave effect to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which demanded that the UK “withdraw its colonial administration … unconditionally within a period of no more than six months”.

The Big Question about that of course is who could have enforced the ruling if Britain or the USA had managed to find a leader or Defence Secretary with the tesicular fortitude to say 'boo' to the UN lawyers and bureucrats? Not Keir Starmer, that's for sure.

The Perils Of Centralized Power
We show how the increasing centralization of power has led to the public becoming disenfranchised and feelinf unable to control their own lives. it has also facilitated the growth of a culture of corruption and cover up in public life, the justice system, education, the churches and other areas where the elite have become remote and out of touch with the citizens they serve.

As Starmer Challenges USA On Greenland Trump Lashes Out Over UKs Chagos Islands Giveaway

In a U - turn worthy of Two Tier,Free Gear, He's Queer spinning - Starmer himself (he pirouettes faster than a ballerina on speed,), The US President today executed not just a U - turn but a 70 mph handbrake turn as Trump accused Sir Keir Starmer of “giving away” the Chagos Islands to Mauritius “for no reason whatsoever” in an “act of great stupidity” – despite the deal having previously been (somewhat half heartedly,) endorsed by himself and his administration.

The US President said that “there is no doubt that China and Russia have noticed this act of total weakness” by Britain in the Chagos Islands. He then claimed Starmer's spineless sellout of British interests over Diego Garcia to justifies his atttempt to annexe or purchase Greenland for the United States, urging Denmark and his European allies to “do the right thing”

The UK Government hit back almost immediately and insisted that the Chagos deal was backed by their closest allies including the US, and showing that Starmer's far left administration will go to far greater lengths to support 67,000 seal slaughtering snow shovellers that they will to defend the interests of 67 million British citizens.

Trump ranted in a Truth Social post today: “Shockingly, our ‘brilliant’ NATO Ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to give away the Island of Diego Garcia, the site of a vital US Military Base, to Mauritius, and to do so FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER.

“The UK giving away extremely important land is an act of GREAT STUPIDITY, and is another in a very long line of National Security reasons why Greenland has to be acquired by the USA. Denmark and its European Allies have to DO THE RIGHT THING.”

The US President is due in Davos, Switzerland later this week for the World Economic Forum  (WEF) where he insists he will hold talks with European leaders about acquiring Greenland. Danish officials have decided skip the event in Switzerland this year which is of no matter because while nominally the colonial ruler of Greenland, the Greenlanders hate them and have only held back from declaring full independence because the ice bound island has no economy if the handouts from Copenhagen dry up.

Funny how The British Government can stridently insist that only Greenlanders can decide the future of Greenland when they signed a treaty in May last year to hand  sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius which is over 1000 miles away and has never had any political connection to the Chagos archipelago. The 'deal' will oblige Britain to lease back the strategically important military base on Diego Garcia for £101 million a year. It should be noted that the recently ousted Mauritius government, which made the deal, was a close ally of communist China.

Critics of the Chagos deal believe Trump has never before been given the full picture of the risk it would pose to US operations in the Indian Ocean, but now US Diplomats have carified the importance of Chagos. And now he knows he has made it clear he disapproves.

The current western European political class is a bunch of poodles in thrall to the US democrats and/or the UN (whoever the originator of the the mad policy ideas propagated by both happens to be). The most effective way Trump could solve this problem is to cut off the head which sits in the USA.

Trump, his inner circle and his followers don’t talk about the western European political class or even the EU but about Europe, which they see as an obstacle to world domination rather than a continent filled with people, a political class, or  a confederation of states.

For geographical reason alone, Russia can no more launch a successful military invasion of Greenland than could China and that either country would be willing to provoke a global war by attacking a NATO member state is … eh … an interesting theory. Presently, it’s the government of the USA which seeks to dismantle a NATO member state and not Russia or China. However Greenland's political leaders (of whom I have a very low opinion as stated previously,) appear to have been cosying up to China as they simultaneously been ramping up hostility against Denmark. Could it be these naive clowns think they can cut a deal with China to provide the CCP with a base from which to strike at both The USA and Europe.

Reasons To Believe Are Wearing Thin: The Benefit Of The Doubt Is Cracking

Everything The Science Whores Told You About Eating Fat Was A Lie.
We have been telling you so for years, but at last the world seems to be cathing up with The Daily Stirrer. Another independent study confirms that the scientists ('A sack of rogues bought and paid for with corporate gods' to paraphrase Burns) have been lying about the health risks of eating saturated fat. It's process vegetable fat, created in laboratories by scientists and other synthesized foods that damage human health.

Walmart’s Greed: Dodging Billions in Taxes, Paying workers peanuts
Walmart Stores is America’s top-earning corporation. In 2013, its revenues were $473 billion, yet it only declared $16 billion in profits. Bizarrely Americans subsidize Walmart because its low-wage employees receive an estimated $6.2 billion annually in Food Stamps, Medicare and other anti-poverty benefits. Meanwhile Walmart has parked $21.4 billion in untaxed profits offshore and is lobbying to cut U.S. corporate tax rates.’

Are Europe And USA Drifting Apart Over Warmomger President Obama's Aggressive Attitude To Russia?
The entire foreign policy of the Obama Administration in the USA is based on having its European alliesd give a veneer of respectability to America's warmongering, economic imperialism and blatant bullying of smaller nations. But has the rent bot President overreached himself in trying to bully Russia's Vladimir Putin?

Another Big Result For The 'Conspiracy Theorists' - US CIA Corrupts Western Journalists.
Ever wondered why anybody trying to report news truthfully or initiate intelligent discussion is branded a conspiracy theorist, especially if their news or opinion is critical of the American government of American business interests? Vaclav Klaus, the free world's last honest politician: the West’s lies about Russia are monstrous.
There are few people in politics who will say in public the things that really think, thanks to the hypersensitivity of the American political establishment and their enthusiasm for bombing the crap out of anyone who upsets members of their anointed minorities. Its refreshing then to learn of comments made by veteran Czech Republic leader, putting the boot into the cowardly mealy mouthed sum who pass for conservative and libertarian politicians in the English Speaking countries.

NHS 'at mercy of predatory US healthcare firms' if controversial Washington trade deal goes through
The whole world seems to be wising up to Washington's fascism and designed on creating a global empire. So how come our Conservative / Lib Dem coalition government is still sucking up to the American's and trying to be the corporate imperialists best friends when the rest of the developed world is distancing itself from the increasingly sinister Obama Administration?

The Perils Of Centralized Power
We show how the increasing centralization of power has led to the public becoming disenfranchised and feelinf unable to control their own lives. it has also facilitated the growth of a culture of corruption and cover up in public life, the justice system, education, the churches and other areas where the elite have become remote and out of touch with the citizens they serve.

The Hate And Prejudice The Bourgois Left Find Acceptable
The neo - fascist left are quick to jump on any of the forbidden pejudices, racism, sexism, homophobia, islamophobia and so on. But as we have seen, they find pejudice and hated againt Christians and white Europeans quite acceptable. The bourgeois metropitan set might think that is acceptable but where I come from it's called hypocrisy.

Ukip takes on free market corporatists: Britain's immigration debate gets interesting
Immigration was the subject of the big debate at UKIP's conference in doncaster today. With the Rotherham paedophile scandal which involved Muslim men in the immigrant community abusing young white girls as open sore in South Yorkshire politics at the moment the topic was long overdue for serious debate. One of the reasons the Rotherham scandal happened was the politically correct left scremed racism whenever issue was raised. Immigrants are not above the law.

Centralized power - the worst of all possible worlds
The centralization of power over the past few decades in nations of the developed world has led to the evolution of a sociopathic managerial class formed mainly from the old petite bourgoisie who have now gravitted to public sector careers where their delusions of social status and the unaccountability of office lead them to abuse such power as they have.

Julian Assange Loses Appeal: British High Court Accepts U.S. Request to Extradite Him for Trial

Press freedom groups have warned Assange’s prosecution is a grave threat. The Biden DOJ ignored them, and today won a major victory toward permanently silencing the pioneering transparency activist. In a London courtroom on Friday morning, Julian Assange suffered a devastating blow to his quest for freedom. A two-judge appellate panel of the United Kingdom’s High Court ruled that the U.S.’s request to extradite Assange to the U.S. to stand trial on espionage charges is legally valid.

EU "Sounds Alarm" Over New US Sanctions On Russia; Germany Threatens Retaliation
Late on Friday (21/07/17), Congressional negotiators agreed to advance a cross - party bill that would punish Russia for its (alleged) interference in the 2016 election according to the Wall Street Journal. Trump's Tariffs Are About So Much More Than Greenland

Donald Trump's moves in relation to taking over Greenland are not about territory or mining rights, the reality is they have all been about deterrence. European members of NATO have neglected defence issues for three decades and are now seen to be weak and ineffectual militarily. While I do not see Russia as a direct threat to western Europe because despite all the efforts to demonise Putin by mainstream media, the causes of the war in Ukraine went beyond local animosities and concern NATO expansionism rather than Russian imperialism.

What the war has done however is expose the wests weakness and the dependence of Europe on the USA for its defence. The real point of Trump's threat to impose tariffs is to remin European leaders how dependent they are on Americal military strength.  Europes main military powers have been so busy 'saving the planet' and civilising the third world they have neglected their defence capabilities to the extent that none is capable of defending their own biorders.

‘An Atlantic community paralyzed by its military inferiority in Europe could only wring its hands as [Sino-Russian] power and influence moved unimpeded into the so-called Third World, portions of which provide the materials upon which the industrial, economic, and social health of the industrial West depend.’ - Conflicting Modernities, Cambridge University Press (no longer available online or to purchase)

That is where we stand. The U.S.A has had enough of this.

What are the European nations threatened with tariffs doing now? Wringing their hands and blethering about 'rules based order,' because that is all that they are capable of.

The goal of the EU is to forge its own order of world commerce, in large part to counteract Trump’s expansive protectionism. But Team Trump is suspicious of Europe’s willingness to accommodate China’s agenda.

Trump wants Greenland, and will break NATO to get it, but the greater game is over the future of a wider world.’ Without the USA, the rest of NATO cannot even defend themselves let alone Greenland.

The EU set out in an anti U.S. direction some time ago. Britain under the Labour Party has thrown its lot in with the EU and appears, certainly in the matter of the new Chinese embassy in London, to be accommodating China’s agenda. Denmark has, within it embassy in Beijing a representational office for Greenland.

‘Basically, both Greenland and the Faroe Islands have been present in China for two years…The representation is housed in the buildings of the Danish Embassy in Beijing and will be particularly dedicated to political, cultural and also economic cooperation between the largest island in the world and the most populous country in the world. Accordingly, some business representatives from Greenland were also present at the opening.’

https://polarjournal.net/greenland-opens-own-representation-in-china/

Socialist fascist government by unilaterally disarmed countries, accompanied by much hand wringing, is economic and national security suicide. However the shared consensus and unanimity of the 'West' has evaporated.

The harmony and unity of individual Nation States has been assaulted by Democracy being subverted in the veiled campaign of International Socialism, or as they like to pretend to call it, Globalism.

Britain, at least, should be grateful to President Trump for making this ever more apparent.

Trump Hits Richest European Nations With Tariffs Over Resistance To Greenland Deal

In the first major crisis in US-UK relations since the Labour government came to power in 2024, US President Donald Trump, having already threatened to quit NATO if members do not support him on Greenland, today announced a 10 per cent tariff on all goods sent to the US by Britain and its European allies from Feb 1. The levy will increase to 25 per cent on June 1, unless Britain and seven other major European economic powers agree to let The USA take control of Denmark's semi auonomous territory, Greenland.)

As well as UK and Denmark the levy will aply to Germany, France, Norway, Finland, Netherlands and Sweden.

Trumps announcement triggered a round of outraged pearl clutching from the political maiden aunts who lead the affected nations. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he would be “pursuing this directly with the US administration” although what effect this personality - deficient nonentity thinks he can have is a mystery.

French President Emmanuel Macron was more forceful (well at least his wife has balls even if he doesn't,) saying of the tariffs of the tariffs: “No intimidation nor threat will influence us.” He probably means the cheese eating surrender monkeys will do what they uually do.

Trump’s move will force Sir Keir and other leaders to either suffer the economic consequences of an international trade war or agree to cede land belonging to a Nato ally, threatening the future of the security alliance. If they had a grain of cmmon sense beteen them instead of blethering about international law they would recognise that with Europe having recently shown itself to be totally ineffectual militarily and politically and Greenland, with its wealth of mineral resources being vulnerable to pressure from hostile powers, they should be talking abot a deal with the USA on the basis of security guaratees for mineral rights.

Economists have warned that the new tariffs could push Britain into recession if they were kept in place long-term and with most European nations in de facto recession even though creative accounting is masking the dire state of their economies they are not in any position to stand on their principles.

Mr Trump said: “This tariff will be due and payable until such time as a deal is reached for the complete and total purchase of Greenland.”

This is just bluster of course, Trump is merely laying out his opening gambit in what would necessarily be long and complex negotiations for a deal over Greenland. The US president has for the past few months been ramping up his threats to seize the Arctic island either through force or a deal, saying Europe has insufficiently defended the strategic territory that he claims is coveted by China and Russia.

A big puzzle in the equation is why Denmark is so determined to preserve the status quo around Greenland. The Danes, like other Scandinavians, are a politically correct bunch and may think they are preserving the rights of Greenland's Inuit population to continue their traditional way of life unmolested. However the Inuit have for years been pressing for full independence so there is evidently not much graitude for Denmark's political and financial support over the centuries.

The Danes are not stupid - though the Inuit may be, unless they they think they may get a better deal from Russia or China that Europe and the USA. If that is the case then they are not just stupid, they're idiots.

Something that none of the media coverage of Trump’s desire to control Greenland seems to mention is that Greenland has large deposits of rare earth minerals that so far it’s decided not to mine for “environmental” reasons. Although a lot of rare earths are used in “renewable” energy generation such as wind turbines which Trump isn’t interested in they’re also used in a lot of computers/electronics including a lot of military systems. China currently controls 85% of the world’s supply of rare earths and in terms of national security this is a major problem for the US. All this and the security question will ensure Trump will get Greenland eventually. If we liken the manoeuvres to a game of poker, Trump has four aces and Europe has no cards to play.

We Boggart Bloggers, having discussed it over a couple of pints in The Albion earlier, suspect that Trump’s main reason for wanting to control Greenland is to ensure the US has sufficient amounts of essential raw materials.

We are not soothsayers or mind readers but beteen us have vast experience and based on knowledge of past events feel there may well be secret talks going on to arrange a deal whereby Greenland permits mining and in return for US security guarantees American investors and commodity traders can buy the output at preferential rates.

Talk of military action or buying Greenland may well just be a tough opening position in negotiations, as we have suggested bove, to try and force a deal whereby Greenland remains part of Denmark and the US gets rare earths and oil exploration rights..

What seems strange in Smarmer's response is he was so eager to giveaway our strategically important Indian Ocean territory (the Chagos Islands,) to a client state of communist China and not only that, to PAY Mauritius for taking it off our hands, many billions of pounds we cannot afford, yet our virtue signalling PM is absolutely adamant that Denmark must not sell Greenland and sends a powerful military fore of ONE squaddie to Greenland as our contribution to defending the island. Perhaps Kommie Keir has been told by his Chinese masters that in addition to approving plans for their spy hub super embassy in London he must to do all he can to deliver the world's biggest island into their hands.

Trump Suggests US Will Pull Out Of NATO If Europeans Oppose Him Over Greenland

Donald Trump speaks to reporters on the South Lawn before boarding Marine One at the White House

Donald Trump has hinted the US may leave NATO if allies don't help him acquire Greenland (Image: Getty)

US President Donald Trump has hinted the United States could pull out of NATO if European members of the North Atlantic alliance don't agree to America taking  control of Greenland. The President was asked on Friday (January 16) if he would pull out of the mutual aid alliance if other members don't help him acquire control of the semi-autonomous Danish territory (population: 50,000). It is widely known of course that Trump regards other leaders of NATO member states as weak and ineffectual.

The President commented:  "NATO has been dealing with us on Greenland. We need Greenland for national security very badly. If we don't have it we have a very big hole in terms of national security, especially in terms of the Golden Dome."

He has also warned that the US may impose economic sanctions on any nation that supports Denmark. That would inevitably incur a reciprocal action fron the EU

The Greenland question is tearing apart the NATO alliance. Though the vast land area of the world's biggest island (mostly inside the Arctic Circle,) only has a small population and much of its surface is either permafrost or sheet ice, the territory is believed to contain vast reserves of oil and gas and of mineral deposits which will be vital as governments continue to push towards replacing combustible fuels with electric power. The faux - outrage of NATO leaders is all the more surprising as the alliance's General Secretary Mark Rutte has warned members to prepare for war with Russia.

After holding talks with vice-president JD Vance and secretary of state Marco Rubio on Wednesday, Danish foreign minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen warned of a “fundamental disagreement” with the US over Greenland’s status and inaugurated a working group to bridge the gap.

Europe has responded to Trump' incendiary comments by meeting fire with with hot air. France has spearheaded the deployment of a token contingent of European forces to Greenland and warned that a US seizure or the island would imperil trade with the EU.

Polish prime minister Donald Tusk declared that American military intervention in Greenland would be “the end of the world as we know it.” There is also growing chatter about the rollback of European intelligence sharing with the US and a suspension of US-EU trade negotiations.

While European leaders have coalesced around the opinion that Trump’s threats towards Greenland are serious, there is still a potential off-ramp that can avoid a worst-case scenario. Instead of engaging in fiery rhetoric that provokes Trump towards escalation, Europe should seek out a deal, a grand bargain solution that acknowledges American concerns and keeps Nato intact.

America’s primary motivation for acquiring Greenland is to prevent the island from becoming a haven of Russian and Chinese influence. While Trump’s assertions that Greenland is flooded with Russian and Chinese vessels are exaggerated, America’s national security concerns are not wholly without foundation. As the ongoing situation in Ukraine has shown, Europe is invapable of defending anything. Since the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the cold war European leaders have cut back on defence spending and relied on US military strength for protection as the threat posed by eastern powers appeared to diminish. Now China and Russia are resurgent it seems Trump is trying to realign the world order before China does it.

Streamlining America’s return to at least one of its existing but somewhat run down bases on the island could help convince Trump that outright annexation is unnecessary. In response to Russia and China’s enhanced coordination in the Arctic, Europe should consider new customised military readiness exercises with America and increase intelligence sharing about Moscow and Beijing’s intentions. Musings about security partnership decoupling should be replaced with calls for increased collaboration.

However the issue is clearly not about bases. The 1951 agreement pretty well allows the US carte blanche over that. So it must be something else. Is it mineral rights? Is it simply ego? If we take his comments at face value, Trump is prepared to destroy NATO to get Greenland. But observing as somebody familiar with negotiating techniques in business it seems to me the President is merely setting out his position for negotiating a deal. Instead of carrying on like a bunch of maiden aunts who have accidentally logged on to Porn Hub, Leaders of EU Nations, UK, Norway and Canada should get together with Denmark and instead of simply saying 'No' and blethering about 'international law' put together a proposal acceptable to NATO. Denmark and as far as possible the Greenlanders but with a little common ground that can form the basis for negotiation..

Instead of such  businesslike approach, they feign outrage and intheir responses to Trump insult and provoke him. He’s now threatening anyone who supports Denmark with increased tariffs. Denmark cannot defend Greenland, it is a socially and tevhnologically advanced nation but has a population of around 6 million and an area of about 25,000 square miles. The native (Inuit) population of Greenland want ull independence and should they gain it, seem to think the major powers would let them continue their traditional way of life while sitting of £$€trillions worth of natural resources. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they are politically naive rather than stupid.

Trump is neither naive or stupid ... hate him as much as you like, but accept the truth of this ... and while his approach may be blantanly ained as advancing American economic interests, Europe's leaders, who are both naive and stupid as well as being to arrogant to be aware of their naivete and stupidity, NATO without the USA cannot hold the line against China and Russia. We have seen these two nations gain control in Africa, South East Asia and South America. What makes anyone think they can't do the same in Greenland?

In November, the Russian defence ministry reportedly inaugurated plans to create a new Arctic fleet to ensure the safety of the Northern Sea Route. China has simultaneously plotted an expansion of its Polar Silk Road infrastructure along this route.

A more robust Russian military footprint in the Arctic could increase the risk of hostile actions around Greenland’s GIUK Gap and disruptions to Trans-Atlantic supply chains. China’s track record suggests that it could transform civilian infrastructure investments into dual-use facilities that carry out espionage and reconnaissance.

Instead of dismissing these threats as fabrications, Europe should work with Washington on mitigating these concerns. Building on the 1951 US-Denmark treaty’s provisions, the EU should encourage Greenland to allow expansion and modernisation  of American bases. The Sondrestom Air Base in Kangerlussaq aided America’s early warning efforts during the Cold War and the Narsarsuaq Air Base assisted refuelling efforts during the Second World War.

While Trump has not yet publicly tied his takeover ambitions in Greenland to critical minerals, a rare earth deal could dissuade him from unilateral action. Greenland possesses at least 25 of the 34 EU-designated critical minerals and its harsh terrain means that it would profoundly benefit from US extraction technology.

Trump’s incendiary rhetoric about Greenland has provoked righteous anger throughout Europe. Now is the time to compartmentalise those emotions and strike a pragmatic deal with Washington that saves Nato.

Planned Chinese Super Embassy In London Set To Be Blocked As Residents And Lawmakers Rebel And White House Expresses Concern

Picture: Telegraph

As London residents and businesses prepare to turn the tables on the government of Keir Starmers National Socialist British Workers Party after Starmer's far left goons have tried to use 'lawfare' againt opponents and critics to suppress discission of their many failures, it now looks as if one of the government's sacred cows, the  new “super-embassy” that Labour had promised to allow  the government of China to build in central London could be blocked by a five-year legal challenge.

A residents’ group, tacitly backed by businesses in the area has vowed to bring legal action and are willing to go to the Supreme Court if Sir Keir Starmer approves the embassy next week. This could tie up the project in legal proceedings until after the next general election due in 2029, which, according to latest polling figures, Labour looks set to lose. The Conservatives and Reform UK are on record as saying they would cancel planning permission  for the embassy if the case was still held up in the courts and they won power.

It comes after UK news media on Monday revealed unredacted drawings showing 208 secret rooms beneath the site of the old Royal Mint in central London.

One of the drawings reveals an underground chamber measuring up to 40 metres across and two to three metres deep, which will sit alongside fibre-optic cables transmitting data between the City of London and Canary Wharf.

Professor Anthony Glees, a professor of intelligence and security at University of Buckingham, said it would be “absolutely mad” to allow China to build its embassy in a place where so many communications cabes vital to national security could be vulnerable to espionage.

Speaking on LBC Radio he said: “You can see from the plans how close rooms run to those cables - they can be tapped very easily.

“There are also heating systems suitable for large servers. In my view, this would not just spy on the UK, it would become the Chinese intelligence spy hub for the whole of Europe.”

The hot-air extraction systems raised alarm bells because it suggests the area could possible accommodate heat-generating equipment such as advanced computers for potential espionage, The Telegraph reported.

The government's willingness to let the project go ahead in the light of this new information demonstrates beyond doubt that Keir Starmer is a greater threat to Britains's national security than Russia or Chona.

China’s controversial plans to build a mega-embassy at Royal Mint Court, opposite the Tower of London, are expected to be approved by ministers later this month after the Home Office and Foreign Office raised no formals objections on security grounds. In view of the opion from security experts this surely amounts to dereliction of duty by thise two departments of state. The decision to allow China to go aheads has been as controversial as The Chagos Islands giveaway and both these actions suggest Starmer has no intention of acting in the interests of Britain.

A government decision on the embassy being built has been delayed several times and is now expected on January 20 before Sir Keir Starmer is due to travel to Beijing at the end of the month.

But a group of MPs from his own party have sent an urgent letter to Prime Minister Starmer to reject the development. We must hope this, added to the growing pressure on Starmer to step down due to the profound unpopularity of the party under his leadership and the almost universal loathing of the man himself.

The government is expected to approve the plans before Sir Keir Starmer is due to travel to Beijing at the end of the month
Picture: Reuters/Tower Hamlets Council

Sections of the plans showing the underground chambers are redacted in all publicly available versions, however The Telegraph and other publications have now revealed the unredacted documents.

According to reports, the plans show that China intends to demolish and reconstruct the chamber’s outer basement wall immediately adjacent to the fibre-optic cables.

The White House is decribed as being “deeply concerned” by Labour’s plan to approve a Chinese “super-embassy” with a secret basement metres from sensitive cables.

A senior Trump administration official raised fears that China could exploit the UK’s critical infrastructure after The Telegraph on Monday revealed unredacted drawings showing 208 secret rooms beneath the site of the old Royal Mint in central London.

Despite the apparent security risk, Sir Keir Starmer is expected to approve the embassy before the Jan 20 deadline.
