Digital ID - High Tech Cattle Tags For Humans

 

Sir Keir Wanker and the rest of  the current Labour Government, egged on by Tony Blair and associates, have exhumed the remains of Digital ID system and breathed life into the corpse by claiming such a system of social control will, by persuading law abiding citizens to surrender their rights and civil liberties, somehow solve the crisis of illegal immigration via a ‘BritCard’ – a way of tracking via a smartphone app, the activities of UK citizens, which all residents will be required by law to carrry if they wish to access government controlled systems and services.

An online petition to Parliament has reached 2.7 million signatures within days of being launched, and opponents of the scheme are hammering home the point that such a system would destoy the concept of privacy, become a threat to free speech and pave the way for a system of social credit scores based on the Chinese Communist Party's favourite tool of social control.

We’ve heard it all before. This is a gentle reminder that in 2021, the then Prime Minister Boris Johnson along with his government and opposition cheerleaders attempted to roll out ‘vaccine passports’ and mandatory vaccinations to deal with Covid. However, they soon realised this wasn’t a popular policy with NHS staff and the wider public, and after fierce pushback both policies were effectively dropped in early 2022 – after losing 40,000 care workers resigned from their jobs rather than accept being tracked 24  hours a day, an exodus which has had enormous consequences for Britain.

One might think that a group of intelligent (allegedly) people would learn from this and other similar episodes that the population will not readily accept digital authoritarianism, but the people we speak of are politicians and scientists, the former criminally incompetent and the latter (with a few exceptions,) certifiably insane.

Digital ID cards will do nothing to quell the flow of illegal immigrants and the criminal gangs that smuggle them into the country. We already have National Insurance numbers, most have driving licences, and many have passports. Then there's the Electoral Roll and NHS number, do any of them keep us 'safer'? Do we feel more 'protected' for their existence? Not really. Such things just 'allow' us to exist - at a cost.

And to gain access to the dubious benefits of a Digital ID system you will need a cellphone of sorts - a specific sort. And forcing us all to have a cellphone would ease the abolition of real money and the creation of a cashless society.

I  know several people who have no cellphone and no computer of any kind.  Others may have a basic phone but no computer. One runs a viable busines that uses cash, and pays suppliers with cheques. Another person, a friend, is a freelance cleaner (she's quite well off but is one of those weird people - her own description - who absolutely loves cleaning.) Her cellphone is a Nokia 8210, good but no apps, She will accept card payments or bank transfers but a few years ago threw her smartphone away because it annoyed her so much.

This lady, from a farming family, has another job she loves. One day a week she works at the local cattle market. The cattle that go through the auction ring are all tagged with RFID chips. Cattle tags are a legal requirement as cattle cannot speak for themselves the way humans do. And luckily for them they cannot carry smartphones so their movements can only be traced when a human equipped with a special device reads their tag. 

Digital ID is a way of tagging us, but compelling us by law to carry our phones at all timmes, and by using a smartphone app our identification data can be tied to banl accounts, point of sale systems in shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and pubs while sensors in public spaces which reord our presence and are linked to the GPS system follow our every move and by using proximity scanners can even identify with whom we speak. The dangers of over reliance on technology are now great, but if enough of us reject these obsessively controlling politicians, refusing to play their deadly games, voting against them and opposing whenever and wherever we can, this insanity can be defeated.

Dumbphone Sales Soaring As Users Reject "Intrusive" Smartphones

 If we're honest there isn't much that is really smart about smartphones other than that they are smarter than most of the people who use and subsequently become addicted to them. When it is commonly known that national government intelligence agencies are filling up petabytes of hard disk space with recordings  of private conversations and stored text messages, photos, videos and selfies of people's genitals, and tracking their ordinary citizens who, in the cause of spreading 'woke' values embraced by Californian bllionaire - psychopaths, have been re - evaluated as a greater terrorist threat than actual foreign terrorists, one has to wonder if it is the phones that are smart or the people addicted o them who are incredibly dumb.

What I'm saying is that in an era of total surveillance when privacy is at a premium it is, is it not, unwise to lay out a small fortune in order to possess (you never actually own them in the truest sense,) a more sophisticated gadget for spying on you than any of your friends. I have to say here I have a smartphone myself, an entry level Nokia One plus, but being a retired computer and networks specialist I have 'tweaked' it somewhat, thus (intentionally) disabling most of its so called smarts.

 The calculator and stop watch feature get used, otherwise the only apps that remain on it are the ones essential to running its basic functions of making and receiving phone calls and texts. Beyond that there is only a sat - nav app that warns me when a speed camera or cop car is nearby. But I have a few decades experience of tweaking computer systems behind me - and if my son and daughter had not bought me the phone a year ago I might still have been using the ancient Nokia bought around 2005.

I'm not alone in resenting the intrusiveness of smartphones, some people have had enough of the constant interruptions, reminders, nudges and adverts relating to things discussed in private conversations and are throwing their smart phones into the trash and replacing them with "dumbphones" instead.

An example is seventeen-year-old Robin West, who according to the BBC is an anomaly among her peers: "she doesn't have a smartphone." Instead of scrolling through apps like TikTok and Instagram all day, she uses a so-called "dumbphone".

People who had a cell phone in the late 1990s (and I was an early adopter, I've had one since the 1980s, they were always annoying but for professional reasons having one was essential,) are all too familiar with these; for everyone else these are basic handsets, or feature phones, with very limited functionality compared to say an iPhone. For the most part, you can typically only make and receive calls and SMS text messages. And, if you are lucky, listen to radio and take very basic photos, but definitely not connect to the internet or apps.

Robin decided to ditch her former smartphone two years ago. While looking for a replacement handset in a second-hand shop she was lured by the low price of a "brick phone". Her current handset, from French firm MobiWire, cost her just £8. And because it has no smartphone functionality there is no monthly contract or data bill to eat up the cash.

"I didn't notice until I bought a brick phone how much the smartphone had taken over my life," she says. "I had a lot of social media apps on it, and I didn't get as much done as I was always on my phone."

The Londoner adds that she doesn't think she'll ever buy another smartphone. "I'm happy with my brick - I don't think it limits me. I'm definitely more proactive."

According to BBC, dumbphones are enjoying a revival. Google searches for them jumped by 89% between 2018 and 2021, according to a report by software firm SEMrush. And while sales figures are hard to come by, one report said that global purchases of dumbphones were due to hit one billion units last year, up from 400 million in 2019. This compares to worldwide sales of 1.4 billion smart phones last year, following a 12.5% decline in 2020.

Meanwhile, a 2021 study by accountancy group Deloitte said that one in 10 mobile phone users in the UK had a dumbphone.

It seems there is still hope for humanity.

Little-Known Facebook Feature Causing Users to Think Twice About What They Say

The debate over Internet privacy and the responsibility social media companies should carry in protecting user privacy never ceases to spark controversy — among both users and tech insiders. But while Facebook, one of the most popular social media networks, struggles with accusations of news suppression and even fraud, a new report on the network’s microphone settings is reigniting past fears of surveillance that were never fully addressed.

According to University of South Florida Professor Kelli Burns, Facebook is a huge part of the lives of smartphone users. Due to this widespread addiction, Burns explains, “Anytime you’re using your phone, any kind of information that you’re putting into your phone, looking at on your phone, Facebook can access that.” But details regarding what you’re doing or what you’re browsing while on Facebook are not the only type of data the Silicon Valley giant can access. The social media’s microphone feature, which can be enabled by the user via Facebook’s settings, is also listening.

A few months back, a Facebook user took their concerns over the microphone settings to Reddit. The post quickly went viral, prompting Facebook to issue a statement on the matter. According to the social media network, the company does not “record your conversations.” Instead, the statement claimed, if the user chooses to turn the microphone feature on, Facebook will “use your microphone to identify the things you’re listening to or watching based on the music and TV matches we’re able to identify. If this feature is turned on, it’s only active when you’re writing a status update.”

But According to ABC’s WFLA, Burns might have been able to prove Facebook isn’t telling the whole story behind this technology.

“We tested the theory with Kelli, and even we were surprised by what we found and saw.
“Kelli enabled the microphone feature and talked about her desire to go on safari, right down to her mode of transportation. ‘I’m really interested in going on an African safari. I think it’d be wonderful to ride in one of those jeeps,’ she said aloud, phone in hand.

“Less than 60 seconds later, the first post on her Facebook feed was a safari story that seemed to pop up out of nowhere. Turns out, it was a story that had been posted three hours earlier. And, after mentioning a jeep, a car ad also appeared on her page.”

This test, the news organization contended, demonstrates how Facebook picks up “buzz words” in order to show that particular user ads and posts matching their interests. The fact the professor made those comments after turning the feature on may serve as an example of how easily Facebook can trick users into giving the company access to their private conversations.

Though Facebook claims it does not store or share user information, the very existence of the technology may give hackers, including government-backed security experts, a reason to explore private data further, putting the privacy — and even safety — of Facebook users in danger. What’s more concerning about this issue is the company’s previous association with the U.S. National Security Agency’s PRISM program, which gave federal agents access to users’ private data, including, emails, photos, and instant messages, among other things. While Facebook’s more recent claims concerning user privacy regarding the microphone feature might be legitimate, the company’s former cooperation with NSA officials could indicate the feds may seek to explore the microphone feature — whether Facebook agrees with them or not.

Smart TV manufacturers like Samsung have recently been forced to publicly address privacy concerns after news broke the technology was listening to users’ conversations. As the same users learn Android Smart TVs may also present vulnerabilities that give hackers the ability to record what they do, other members of the tech industry, like Facebook, might also face growing obstacles and skepticism from users.

In contrast, though Apple has aligned with the federal government in at least one case, the company was widely praised for standing for privacy rights in a legal standoff involving the FBI over the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone. But unlike Apple, whose hesitation regarding lobbying practices has earned negative attention from Congress in the past, Facebook has a relatively cozy relationship with Washington. Whether this relationship is mutually beneficial to both parties — and whether Facebook will respond like Apple has — remains to be seen.

New German Government Smartphone Spyware Will Monitor Citizens’ Calls, Typing AND See Through Their Camera Lenses

The German Interior Ministry has formally revealed that they have created a new “Bundestrojaner” or government trojan horse software that will enable security agencies to track the smartphone activities of anyone that inadvertently downloads it according to German media. We understand Chancellor Merkel's government has also adopted an “off the shelf” tool from a company which is said to help authoritarian regimes track their citizens.

(Well we have tried to warn you of the direction the German government was travelling in when we started referring to The Chancellor as Hausfrau - Volksfuhrer Merkel, drawing a parallel with comedian Barry Humphrey's character, "Housewife - Superstar Dame Edna Everidge. Though Dame Edna is not real, Merkel seems to have become similarly deluded.

The Trojan Horse software the German government is using disguises itself as something innocent like a free screen saver or game. Once the user opens the file the malicious code infects the target computer, often allowing a third party access to all kinds of information and enabling them to record keystrokes, browse files and even remotely control the computer.

The Federal Data Protection Commissioner Andrea Vosshoff has said that the testing of the software has been completed and that it will be used to follow the movements and actions of suspected criminals and others.

The government tried to reassure concerned citizens by saying that the software only has the capacity to monitor communications and not have access to sensitive files. Critics of the project, aware that the government has openly discussed the possibility of criminalising opposition to the government's 'open doors' immigration policy and opponents of EU political integration, fear the malware could theoretically gain access to anyone’s computer files, personal sensitive information without the person ever being aware that they had been infected with the malware.

Green Party deputy head Konstantin von Notz said, “We do understand the needs of security officials, but still, in a country under the rule of law, the means don’t justify the end.”

This is not the occasion on which the German government has used a trojan horse program. In 2011 the government created similar malware in secret without the knowledge of the public. A hacker group called “Chaos Computer Club” discovered the plan and leaked details to the press causing a scandal. The lawyer of a person whose computer was infected by the trojan told the German press the government had planted it on his client’s computer as he was going through customs at Munich airport.

FinFisher Gamma-International is the company that has developed the latestsoftware called FinFisher or FinSpy. They are based in the UK and in Germany and specialise in developing spyware for governments and law enforcement agencies.

They have been at the centre of many civil liberties scandals when oppressive regimes have used their software to spy on political opponents and human rights activists. Egypt used the software during the Arab spring to help identify and 'neutralise' people critical of the Mubarak regime. Germany, which presents itself as a liberal Social Demoracy now joins countries like Bahrain and Indonesia who are alleged to use the software, according to a report by University of Toronto based Citizen Lab(but as anarchist intellectual Mikhail Bakunin warned Karl Marx in the 1870s, socialist governments will always become more oppressive that the old despotic monarchies).
