Should The U.S. Government Default On Its Debt And What Will Happen If It Does

The level of indebtedness of U.S. federal, state, and local governments, some corporations has been a concern for Central Banks, The IMF, the World Bank and BIS (The Bank Of International; Settlements aka The Masters Of The Universe) for a significant time now and most people are bored by the topic if they are aware of it at all. Economists have been taking of debt as a problem for so long without anything drastically bad happening they have become the boys who cried wolf. Or have they?

Governments have colluded with bankers and financiers to make their debts appear manageable for so long that like gluttons at a feats, the public think the food will keep coming forever. U.S. government debt has become an abstract; it has no more meaning to Joe Average than the prospect of an asteroid hittinmg the earth in the next thousand years.

Many economists, Krugman their leader, are sure debt does not matter. We still hear ridiculous sound bites, like “We owe it to ourselves,” that trivialize the long term effects on the lives of billions of people who do not spend their lives on a university campus or in a private dealing room in their mansion, of printing money.

Actually, some people owe it to other people. There will be big transfers of wealth depending on what happens. More exactly, since Americans don’t save anymore, that dishonest phrase about how we owe it to ourselves isn’t even true in a manner of speaking; we owe most of it to the Chinese and Japanese.

The fact is that while the US government owes the $17 or 18 trillion of the national debt to the Citizens of the USA, and the British government likewise owes the £1.5 trillion of national debt to UK taxpayers (and so on around the world's debtor nations)these amounts are only the tip of the iceberg.

Another chestnut is “We’ll grow out of it.” That’s impossible unless real growth is greater than the interest on the debt, which is questionable. And at this point, government deficits are likely to balloon, not contract. Even with artificially low interest rates. GDP, the only economic measure quoted these days, is not a measure of the health of an economy but of how much money is churning around in it. So if a government let's in a million migrants, pays them all £ $ or € 300 per week in benefits to fund essentials, they have grown GDP by 300 million a week. But the economy has not grown at all, all that has happened is the government has taken 300 million in taxes and paid it out in benefits.

OK, you see the flaw in that kind of economics, but we are not finished. The million migrants take their £$€300 and spend it on food, clothes, fuel, other stuff and, say 10% is taken in Value Added Tax (VAT is 20% but not all goods are liable), that means the GDP grows by another £$€290 a week.

Then the businesses that the money is spent with must buy replacement stock to keep the shelves full, pay rents, fuel costs, wages etc. By the time the government has taken its cut again, lets say £$€250 is added to GDP which has now grown by £$€840 all without one penny or cent being added to real wealth.



As a former business finance consultant I have been saying since we started The Daily Stirrer in 2009, governments should default on not just some, but all of its debt for three very obvious reasons and a host of more occluded ones. Foremost is we need a debt reset to avoid turning future generations into serfs. Second is to punish those who have enabled the State by lending it money. Third is to make it impossible for the State to borrow so irresponsibly in the future, at least for a while. A nation such as Greece should never have been allowed to get into the state it is in, the USA should have had a ZZZminus rating years ago.

Why you might well ask, if we owe the money to ourselves? The problem is we don't really owe the money to ourselves. Governments raise money by printing bonds and selling them, with the nation's central bank apparently buying most. But if the government's revenue / expenditure account is running at a deficit, the central bank has two options, to print money thus devaluing the currency and destroying savings, pension funds and asset values and causing inflation which reduces the spending power of wages and earnings. Or we can refuse to pay 'ourselves' i.e. the central bank) the interest due on treasury bonds it holds, which means the central bank does not have the funds to pay international banks which hold its debt.

The cycle of borrowing can only go on like this for so long before the interest owed on outstanding debt becomes to great to repay, at that point citizens become serfs, working to pay the master's (government's) debt while having only a subsistence lifestyle.

The consequences are too grim to think about and the timing hard to predict. The USA has been bankrupt for two decades but has stayed afloat because it holds the de facto global reserve currency. Recently however, Russia, China and Iran have recruited many nations totally pissed off with US high handedness to their effort to dump the US$ as reserve currency and creat a new monetary unit based on a basket of currencies. When (rather than if) that happens, the USA is finished and the day of the debtor nation is over.


Perhaps governments can somehow continue to borrow amounts that ought not to be possible. But creditors will look for repayment. Either those creditors will walk away out of pocket (in the case of default), or the holders of dollar denominated investments will be left with worthless paper (in the case of hyperinflation), or most likely the taxpayers’ pockets will be looted (bank deposits confiscated, pension funds dissoves, investment trusts looted), or worst case a combination of all three. Whatever the final outcome, the story will not have a happy ending for Joe Average and his family and friends .

Germany: Migrants’ Rape Epidemic

Last week Pam Geller a document from a German refugee center describing an epidemic of rape against women and children at these centers for migrants. According to this document women are “assigned a subordinate role” and unaccompanied females are treated as “fair game.” Many of these women, according to the document, are fleeing “forced marriage” and/or “female genital mutilation.”

It’s the same hate culture as is behind the Muslim child grooming and rape gangs in the UK.

The media narrative on this invasion is disgusting using children as human shields to sell the big lie much the way Hamas does.

Some German towns are already majority Muslim

On August 18, a coalition of four social work organizations and women’s rights groups sent a two-page letter to the leaders of the political parties in the regional parliament in Hesse, a state in west-central Germany, warning them of the worsening situation for women and children in the refugee shelters. The letter said (translated by fatsally):

“The ever-increasing influx of refugees has complicated the situation for women and girls at the receiving center in Giessen (HEAE) and its subsidiaries.

“The practice of providing accommodations in large tents, the lack of gender-separate sanitary facilities, premises that cannot be locked, the lack of safe havens for women and girls — to name just a few spatial factors — increases the vulnerability of women and children within the HEAE. This situation plays into the hands of those men who assign women a subordinate role and treat women traveling alone as ‘wild game’.

“The consequences are numerous rapes and sexual assaults. We are also receiving an increasing number of reports of forced prostitution. It must be stressed: these are not isolated cases.

“Women report that they, as well as children, have been raped or subjected to sexual assault. As a result, many women sleep in their street clothes. Women regularly report that they do not use the toilet at night because of the danger of rape and robbery on the way to the sanitary facilities. Even during daylight, passing through the camp is a frightful situation for many women.

“Many women — in addition to fleeing wars or civil wars — are also on the run for gender-related reasons, including the threat of forced marriage or genital mutilation. These women who face special risks, especially when they are on the run alone or with their children. Even if they are accompanied by male relatives or acquaintances, this does not always ensure protection against violence because it can also lead to specific dependencies and sexual exploitation.

“Most female refugees have experienced a variety of traumatizing experiences in their country of origin and while on the run. They are victims of violence, kidnappings, torture, rape and extortion — sometimes over periods of several years.

“The feeling to have arrived here — in safety — and to be able to move without fear, is a gift for many women…. We therefore ask you…to join our call for the immediate establishment of protected premises (locked apartments or houses) for women and children who are travelling alone….

“These facilities must be equipped so that men do not have access to the premises of the women, with the exception of emergency workers and security personnel. In addition bedrooms, lounges, kitchens and sanitary facilities must be interconnected so that they form a self-contained unit — and thus can only be reached via lockable and monitored access to the house or the apartment.”

Assad Says Europe Is Responsible For Refugee Crisis: "If You're Worried About Them, Stop Supporting Terrorists"

As the tide of refugees fleeing Syria’s bloody civil war, swelled by African economic migrants masquerading as Syrians continues to tear the European Union (EU) apart, and as Brussels struggles to formulate a coherent policy for handling the crisis as member states go their own way with measures to close border crossing points, divert migrants to other member nations, or plunge into civil unrest while airhead leaders make politically correct noises about letting millions come, public opinion is outraged and there is civil unrest in the streets of their cities. Nobody seems to know however what the EU's unified response should be, or even if a unified response is possible, new media writers have made a concerted effort to ensure the world is aware that it was Western intervention in Syria that created this crisis in the first place.

This makes it all the more tragically ironic that Europe is now set to use the flow of asylum seekers (with the drowned body of a Syrian toddler as the mascot) to justify dropping more bombs on Syria. All this has been done in a doomed effort to destabilize a stable, secular, totalitarian regime the West felt no longer serves US interests does not adhere to the principles of progressive liberaslism (unlike Saudi Arabia of course) and which is much too cosy with the Kremlin, and Gazprom, which Washington feels holds far too much influence over European energy policy thanks to Russia’s huge natural gas reserves. (Washington does not want any nation except the USA to be able to influence E U economic policy.)

Russia now has troops on the ground near Latakia and warplanes in the sky over ISIS held territory and has called on the US led coalition to form a realistic fighting force to defeat ISIS. Washington finds itself in a tough position, show itself to be sympathetic to the ideal of perpetual war or support the regime it sponsored, armed and trained to be its proxy in overthrowing Assad.

People are beginning to wonder why Russia has in two weeks been able to build a forward operating base and prepare to help Assad's troops to drive back ISIS and reclaim the whole of Syria while the US led allies, NATO partners which, if you believe propaganda, leads the global war on terror and the effort to drive Islamic extremism out of Syria, has managed to do next to nothing to check the advance of the rag tag army of fanatics, religious zealots and nutters.

The explanation is that the Obamaland is only interested in deposing Assad, and a Russian-assisted mission to destroy Assad’s opposition doesn’t advance the cause of US Global hegemony and once the Islamists are dealt with, it is hard to see how the Russians could be convinced it was in their interests to step aside and let US 'advisers' orchestrate some pastice of a democratic system that would exclude Assad's supporters. So the conflict will continue and so will the the flow of refugees to Europe.

As thw world is awakening to the scenario described above, Putin is keen to exploit the situation by...well, by telling the truth about the US’s strategy for bringing about regime change. Read what he said yesterday at a summit of former soviet States And to the University Professor who though he was being smart, when a short time ago he informed me that Russian leaders have a poor record with telling the truth, I say (though I know its wasted effort, univerity professors these days all seem to have a PhD in Stupid) that western leaders don't have a good track record on truthfulness either, but both types will tell the truth when it serves their interests.

German Authorities Claim Economic Migrants Are Saying They Are Syrian Refugees To Get Into The Country

The shock renewal by Germany of border controls was, it turns out, a consequence of Hausfrau Merkel's ill - advised decision to announce that all Syrians arriving in Germany would be welcomed, a stupid move, probably aimed at sucking up to the terrorist - loving Obama administration in the USA, that was doomed to end in disaster from the outset.

Since Syrians seem to have been granted a privileged status among the many thousands of undocumented travellers intent on getting into Europe in order to claim welfare benefits or join jihadist cells,, suddenly everyone applying for asylum is saying they are Syrian.

In a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Minister of the Interior of the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lorenz Caffier, confirmed suspicions about the origin of many supposed Syrian refugees. “At least a quarter of refugees who say they have come from Syria are not from Syria, but from other Arab or African countries,” Caffier told his audience.

Caffier’s statement echoes the experience of Rainer Wendt, head of the German Police Union: “Almost without exception, every refugee pretends to be a Syrian when in fact, many come from other countries, even from sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.

“All present themselves as Syrians,” said a police officer stationed in Bavaria to Spiegel Online, “even if they are obviously black Africans.”

Hungary speeds up fence building as criticisms of its 'no more migrants' policy mount

With the criticisms from Austrian and German leaders still echoing through the strets of Prague, likening their treatment of undocumented travellers who are trying to enter the country illegally to Nazi holocaust deportations, the Hungarians have been rushing to finish their razor-wire fence along the Serbian border.

The Hungarian government is also fast - tracking new laws criminalising illegal immigrants, and also deploying the army along the border to deal with migrant gangs trying to break through the border fence. It is an attitude that is attracting widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally.

Ironically both Germany and Austria have in the past few days scrapped their open borders and announced entry controls on non - EU nationals trying to cross their borders. It seems then that Germany and Austria are blaming Hungary for their immigration crises when in fact the faulkt lies with the EU itself for failing to enforce its own laws.

The Schengen zone, within which borders are open under EU law, was only ever intended to facilitate free movement of E U member state nationals, not to allow people who enter the EU illegally to go wherever they wish once they have illegally entered an E U nation.

“Either we continue to build these borders and treat people with brutality, deploying the army and putting them in detention camps, or we have to accept that asylum seekers will continue to try to come to Europe and have to be treated in a humane manner to claim their legal right to asylum,” said Human Rights Watch’s Peter Bouckaert.

In order to speed up the fencebuilding the Hungarians have pressed prisoners into service, with the southern section now forecast to be finished by September 15.

It Is Now Confirmed That Russia Is Sending Hi - tech Military Hardware To Syria

Many people have been saying since 2008 that Barack Hussein Obama, the man with no verifiable past, who came from nowhere to be shoehorned into the Presidency of The United States of America, was never the peacemaker, joybringer and aquatic pedestrian he was presented as, although his campaign was a masterpiece of propaganda and mass manipulation, Obama is in fact more of a neo Con than George W Bush, he is an ego on legs who would do anything to make himself look important.

Being aware of what the corporate money men needed to get themselves out of the economic mess they had created, I predicted that President Obama would bring the world to global conflict. Well we're not quite there yet, but on that metaphorical clock that is ticking down towards doomsday, we are about one millisecond from midnight.

Russian hardware on its way to help Bashir Assad's army in their fight against the mighty air strength of - erm - ISIS or somebody.

Moscow claims transfer of military equipment is meant to help combat against ISIS, but the presence of air defense systems in Syria may stoke tensions with Israel.

REUTERS - Moscow is sending an advanced anti-aircraft missile system to Syria, two Western officials and a Russian source said, as part of what the West believes is stepped-up military support for embattled President Bashar Assad. The Western officials said the SA-22 system would be operated by Russian troops, rather than Syrians. It was on its way to Syria but had not yet arrived.

"This system is the advanced version used by Russia and it's meant to be operated by Russians in Syria," said one of the sources, a Western diplomat who is regularly briefed on U.S., Israeli and other intelligence assessments.

A U.S. official separately confirmed the information.

The Russian source, who is close to the Russian navy, said the delivery would not be the first time Moscow had sent the SA-22 system, known as Pantsir-S1 in Russian, to Syria. It had been sent in 2013, the source said.
"There are plans now to send a new set," the source said, without detailing how far along the process was. However, the Western diplomat said the version of the SA-22 on its way to Syria was newer than previous missile systems deployed there. Syrian officials could not be reached for comment.

Brazil dumped down to 'junk' credit rating by Standard & Poor's

BRICS nation Brazil saw its investment-grade credit rating downgraded by Standard & Poor's to "junk" status. The US agency explained that political turmoil and the failure of President Dilma Rousseff's government to tackle growing debt was behind the decision.

Brazil was awarded an investment-grade rating by S&P in April 2008, when the country's economy was on the rise. Sliding commodity prices and austerity have created a recession in the years since then.

Ms Rousseff's socialist government had implemented austerity measures in a bid to avoid such a downgrade.

S&P has downgraded Brazil - Latin America's largest economy - sooner than had been expected. The move is likely to cause a crash on the Brazilian stock market.

The Brazilian experience should serve as an example to other developing nations and emerging economies of what happens to nations that do not toe the US line. A sensible leader would now accelerate moves to ally Brazil with Russia and China.

Russia Warns Washington Of "Unintended Incidents" In Syria

Yesterday, Thursday evening our news feeds picked up the latest development in the soap opera that is the Obama administrations waggering effor to make Russia back down from is's stance of supporting Assad and let the rent - boy President satisfy his bloodlust in bringing Syria’s horrific civil war with bombs and drone strike on Syrian civilians.

The Reuters report revealed that according to an Israeli defense source, “hundreds of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are on the ground in Syria fighting alongside the Russians to support Bashar al-Assad’s depleted forces as they battle to regain control of the country."

If confirmed that would answer a question which has been hanging over this issue for a while: How long will Iran remain on the sidelines and allow the Houthis to be routed in Yemen and Assad deposed in Syria, and will Tehran join Moscow in announcing the time for rhetoric is past and only direct action can resolve this Obama sponsored carnage?

Reports of Iranian military involvement follow speculation about the nature of Russia’s military buildup near Latakia where US “intelligence” and a series of unnamed “Lebanese sources” claim Moscow is essentially preparing for a full-on push to rout any and all domestic opposition to the Assad regime. Russia claims (rather predictably) that the purpose of the build up is to supply and distribute humanitarian aid.

What we do know is the war of words between US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Rusian opposite number Sergei Lavrov has intensified over the past several days. Here's how Lavrov characterizes the exchange:

“Kerry was also pushing the very strange idea that supporting Bashar Assad in his anti-terror fight only strengthens the positions of ISIS, because the sponsors of ISIS would pump even more arms and money into it,” Lavrov said.

“It's an absolutely upside-down logic and yet another attempt to appease those who use terrorists to fight dissenting regimes,” the Russian FM said, mentioning US attempts to cooperate with varrious extremist groups in Syria over the past few years.

“It's a colossal mistake that the US-led [anti-ISIS] coalition never considered interaction with Syria, not even information exchange,” Lavrov said. “I cannot comprehend this logic, or rather absolute lack of logic.”

“We help not only Syria, we also provide weapons to Iraq and other countries of the region that find themselves on the frontline with the terror threat. Equally for Iraq and other countries, we do so without any political preconditions,” Lavrov said.

Today (Friday 11 September), Lavrov wound it up a further notch with some very serious-sounding (but hilariously overstated,) soundbites delivered to a press conference in Russia.

At a news conference, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia was sending equipment to help Assad fight Islamic State. Russian servicemen were in Syria, he said, primarily to help service that equipment and teach Syrian soldiers how to use it.

Russia was also conducting naval exercises in the eastern Mediterranean, he said, describing the drills as long-planned and staged in accordance with international law.

Lavrov blamed Washington for cutting off direct military-to-military communications between
Russia and NATO over the Ukraine crisis, saying such contacts were "important for the avoidance of undesired, unintended incidents".

"We are always in favor of military people talking to each other in a professional way. They understand each other very well," Lavrov said. "If, as (U.S. Secretary of State) John Kerry has said many times, the United States wants those channels frozen, then be our guest."

"Be our guest", which, unless the true meaning is lost in translation sounds as if the Kremlin telling Washington that it Russia does not have a problem with the Western powers' aircraft getting into a scenario where Russian and French, UK and US (FUKUS axis) jets accidentally ending up in dog fights in the clear blue skies over Syria.

With bated breath we await Kerry's response which will almost certainly contain the words "very" and "concerned" before he beats a hasty retreat to change his underpants.
