Has Putin Has Pushed Europe Into Economic Depression, Hyperrinflation and Currency Collapse?

Though it was entirely predictable and indeed had been expected for some time, the news over the weekend that the Nord Stream 1 pipeline which feeds gas from Russia to northern Europe via The Baltic route had been shut down completely by The Kremlin in retaliation for the continued financial and military support given by NATO and EU member states to Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. The European Commission, governing body of the EU, immediately put the community on something close to a war footing, imoing war economy style regulations. Russia then made clear its position, that unless sanctions are dropped, no gas will *ever* flow through Nord Stream 1 again. The potential economic damage began immediately as the EURO ( € ) dipped below US$0.99 for the first time in 20 years.

Nord Stream pipeline pumping station (Picture: insurancejournal )
Benchmark Dutch TTF gas was up hugely at first before closing ‘only’ 17% higher on open recognition that while much bad news is now priced in, Europe is really in the economic war this blog has warned of since February, just days after Russian troops crossed the border into Ukraine.

Russia’s move is so blatant as to amount to an official declaration of war. There is no way European propaganda can spin this as a temporary situation due to ‘technical issues’ with the pipeline.  This is a case of Putin and Russia's allies holding a gun to NATO and the EU’s head, such is the extent of European dependence on Russian natural gas. So was OPEC+ agreeing on a token 100,000 barrel a day cut to production. So was Iran saying no to the nuclear deal unless the IAEA backs off from investigating the serious breaches of the last nuclear deal it didn’t stick to.

Assuming Europe cannot retreat from its current total committment to prolonging the war in Ukraine by continuing to provide the neo - Nazi nutters in Kiev with money and military hardware, that means a severe recession with very high inflation, and if anything were to happen to gas flows via Ukraine, which could easily occur as Russia has not yet deployed its air power in this conflict, Europe would need to make swingeing cuts to energy consumption in order to avoid unplanned ‘gas outs’ and electricity rationing.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck  said: “Expect the worst.” As mentioned yesterday, existential choices now need to be made, because due to political virtue signalling 'net zero' pledges made by NATO and EU governments, and foolhardly transitioning to unreliable and intermittent 'sustainable' energy sources there may not enough energy to go round. It is time for politicians to stop sucking up to the unwashed crustries of the green lobby and prioritise the needs of the people.

First, Germany is to delay mothballing some nuclear reactors – so common sense at gunpoint.

It is unlikely Europe and the UK will not ration energy because it means the staggering bills already being seen will continue to rise, and then stagflation, incession, or ‘inpression’ (an inflationary depression). They may instead subsidize businesses and households even if that means wholesale energy prices march even higher. Whether any will have the testicular fortitude to admit the folly of the past two decades and recommission coal and gas fired generators really depends on the extent of the public backlash.

Germany’s latest EUR65bn energy bailout is already providing such a subsidy but the trouble with such stop - gap policies is they only kick the can down the road; so will Sweden’s and the Netherlands’ measures, and France’s and Spain’s: and Brussels is talking about an EU-wide energy price cap. Only part of these subsidies will flow from windfall taxes on the energy companies which are raking in vast profits from the current shortages. Taxes also remove the industry capital needed to invest in new energy supply. New UK PM Liz (Chuckie)Truss, just selected with an underwhelming 57% mandate of a tiny Tory electorate, has also floated Covid-furlough sized spending to cap business and household energy bills; and huge tax cuts; and a 2.5% trend GDP growth rate target. Good luck with the latter.

Borrowing or printing money to pay for imported energy (in dollars), while running rising twin deficits is a great way to destroy one’s currency – which means higher inflation, and not transitory currency weakness but permanent inflation and the destruction of people's savings and pensions.

So we see that while mainstream media in Europe and North America continues to push the 'Ukraine is winning' narrative to justify the huge cost to western nations of supplying Ukraine with high tech weapons and ammunition, an objective analysis of the real war reveals that as long as Russia can continue to provide the distraction on the ground in Ukraine to deflect the attention of citizens of Ukraine's allies, economically Putin and his allies are destroying the west and further shifting the balance of geopolitical power to the east.

Jingoistic Western Triumphalism Will Not End The War In Ukraine Or Cripple Putin, But It Is Crippling Western Nations
As the war in Ukraine grinds on and Russia steps up its economic war against the west and in particular The European Union, claims made recently by the idiotically 'woke' leaders of Europe's main economic and military powers that the West has a once-in-a–generation chance to severely weaken Russia’s capabilities, both militarily and geopolitically, look increasingly hollow. Putin's critics have cited 'Western unity' as one of the main reasons why Russia will be economically destroyed and politically humiliated when the Ukraine's military finally claim victory.

Debunked: The Great Renewable Green Delusion
The war in Ukraine has not caused the global energy crisis of early 2022 byt merely exacerbated it. And now their loonytoons 'net zero' green energy policies have failed they are biting the hand that feeds them.

Putin, Macron To Hold Urgent Talks To Halt Military Escalation In Ukraine
Even though the leaders of Ukraine itself are talking down the threat of war with Russia over the breakaway region of Donbas, America and Britain are still beating the war drums and demonising Russian leader Vladimir Putin. British Government Laundered Fake U.S. 'Intelligence' On Ukraine
The British government on Saturday accused Russia of organizing a plot to install a pro-Moscow government in Ukraine, as the Kremlin masses troops near the Ukrainian border. Do We Have A Winter Of Civil Disobedience Ahead?
As many people in Britain slap on the apres sun gloop in the wake of what passes for a heatwave in these cool cloudy climes, our inept politicians caught with their pants down by unusual weather as usual have heard that that winter is coming and are making plans for a coldwave. We are in the grip of an energy crisis at the height of summer. Last week, it was reported that the UK government is laying down plans for a “reasonable worst-case scenario” including blackouts for industry and even households. And this is as energy prices spiral out of control to new records every day.

The Truth About Coal And The Lies Of The Elite
So much for all the COP 26 banter late last year. Let me remind you. The elites all flew in on their private jets and promptly told us we’re all (royal we) getting off fossil fuels and killing coal.So how’s that turning out? The usage of coal is now at record highs:

Official Advice - Prepare For Blackouts This Winter

The UK government is putting plans together for days of organised blackouts this winter, in what they call a "reasonable worst-case scenario" for energy shortages, according to reports in manstream media. Naturally they are blaming this on the embargo on importing gas from Russia but in reality Britain has never imported any more than a small amout of its gas from Russia. The real reason politicians and energy company CEOs are panicking is entirely due to their obession with obtaining all our energy from intermittent sources like wind and sunshine ...

Is Russia Selling Its Oil To The World Through An Obscure Egyptian Port?
As this blog predicted when NATO and EU member states shot themselves in the foot by reacting to Russia's invasion of Ukraine with sanctions that prevented Russia from selling oil, gas and vital raw materials to the countries that needed them most, the NATO and EU member states, the Russians have had no problems finding alternative customers for their gas and oil and no problem getting oil into the world's commodity markets through the back door.

We The Good Guys Versus They The Bad Guys Reporting Does Not Make Sense For The Ukraine Crisis
Mainstream media reporting of the conflict in Ukraine has disappointed. Perhaps I was naive to suppose that lessons might have been learned from the hits their print sales and online traffic rates took as a result of their handling the COVID pandemic But instead of focusing on the most obviously newsworthy aspect of the build up to and escalation of the war, Russia’s view of NATO expansion into Ukraine and even further to Georgia and Kazakhstan, news reports have simply demonised Russia and portrayed Ukraine as the good guys.

Boris and Biden Can't Blame Ukraine War For Energy Crisis
With typical arrogance and condescension towards the people who elected them Boris Johnson, Joe Biden and their respectiive presstitutes are trying to spin the energy crisis Europe and North America are currently facing as somehow being linked to the conflict in Ukraine and therfore blame is being attactched to Russia and Vladimir Putin. Do they really think we are stupid enough to believe such unmitigated bollocks? ...

Europe Suffers In Biden's Proxy War

by Phil T. Looker, 3 September 2022

We are in a game of chicken with Russia , while the proxy war with Russia the hawks in Washington DChave yearned for these past twenty years is being fought in Ukraine, to the immense cost in cash of taxpayers in the USA and NATO member states and in lives for the citizens of Ukraine, Russia, aided by China, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Iran, Turkey and many other large population nations that have not joined in the western sanctions, is desroying the pro - Ukraine alliance economically.

Our leaders are all totally insulated from the consequences of getting involved, even indirectly, in this conflict, they have no skin in the game, until the next round of elections

Biden (or his administration) has been responsible to a large degree in encouraging Putin to invade Ukraine, because shutting off the XL pipeline caused the recent oil price surge. The late Senator John McCain said this of Russia: “Russia is an old gas station, masquerading as a country”. All Russia does is oil and gas , plus some raw materials too. That somewhat understates the range of the Russian economy but there is some truth in it. Russia exports raw materials and grain.

The way to undermine Putin’s ambitions is to open up the oilfields and gas fields so eagerly abandoned by the west in our leaders eagerness to earn green kudos from the tree huggers. Drill for oil, frack for oil and gas, recommission wells closed and capped because in the face of cheap Russian imports they were unprofitable. Get the oil  and gas prices down and ensure energy stability with controls in place to ensure that spinless politicians, fearful of upsetting the noisy but numerically insignificant eco - warrior contingent can never again make us dependent on a potentially hostile power for the means to keep ourselves warm and well fed. This is where demented Joe Biden and cunt - struck Boris Johnson have made a series of enormous mistakes, and Biden in particular has handed Putin on a platter a lot of financial power.

When oil prices got to U$150 a barrel in 2008, Putin took Georgia. Oil prices settled but then in 2014 the price went to U$100, and Putin annexed Crimea. With the fracking revolution under first Barack Obama (in betrayal of the idealogues who voted for him,) and then  Donald Trump led to the USA being self sufficient in oil and natural gas, the oil price dropped to between U$25 to U$45 a barrel. You never heard from Putin.

In the past year the oil price has jumped from U$50 to U$100 and Putin made around U$85bn in profit from that. He is using that money to finance his war in Ukraine. The lesson is ‘crank uo the oil pumps and open the gas taps.'

Biden and Boris Johnson have been doing exactly the reverse in pursuit of unrealistic 'net zero' policies. Johnson refused to issue more oil and gas licences in the North Sea, fracking is still in limbo, and the enormous reserves around the Outer Hebrides are untapped. Johnson (or whoever suceeds him now he has been disgraced,) and Biden by keeping oil and gas in short supply and price high, are helping Putin.

America could produce 15m barrels of oil a day, but currently is only pumping 11.5m Why? More oil in the market and the price goes down and Putin is stuck in Ukraine. The North Sea, with 24 billion barrels of oil left in known reserves and estimates of another 40 billion yet to be exploited,  could make Britain self sufficient in oil and gas for at leasy half a century, and our islands still stand on a foundation of high quality coal

The answer to thwart Putin is to get the oil price down. Reinstate the Keystone pipeline, get drilling in Alaska, the North Sea and Outer Hebrides.

However none of this will be allowed in 'woke' world. The people acting as puppeteers of poor demented Joe Biden are intent on humiliating Russia, wrecking the Russian economy and engineering the overthrow of Vladimir Putin, with the added bonus that once these goals are achieved their corporate, globalist cronies will be able to step in and 'annexe' Russia's massive mineral, hydrocarbon and metal resources.

Putin's regime may be odious but he is popular in Russia and the economy is doing just fine. A large and increasing balance of payment surplus, strongest currency bar none this year, declining inflation, massive gold reserves and an absence of sovereign debt combines with those natural resources and a well organised agricultural sector make Russia virtually unassailable to external actions such as economic sanctions and trade embargos. The Kremlin circumvents NATO / EU sanctions by selling petrocarbons to India and China for much more than before the war; (some of which is then resold to Europe for a healthy profit for the counties!).

Meanwhile our sanctions on Russia have created huge hikes in energy inflation threatening the shut down of the UK/European countries creating mass unemployment and poverty. Meanwhile Putin works closely with China and other BRICS countries to work on a new payment system bypassing SWIFT sanctions - oh and now Saudi is flirting with joining the BRICS club. Putin is a very capable opponent, and our policies are harming us much worse than it is harming him.

Eating Mashed Bugs, Drinking Recycled Sewage? Are Biblical Prophecies Coming True?

 2 Kings 18:27 (King James \version)

"Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?"

Stop Freaking Out About Drinking Recycled Poo-Water, Expert Says

The head of the UK's Environment Agency says that people need to be 'less squeamish' about drinking "toilet-to-tap" water from treatment plants, as countries and states around the world move towards recycling sewage.

According to a Sunday op-ed in The Times, Sir James Bevan writes that "drinking recycled sewage is the future."

"The recent rainfall hasn’t changed the underlying position in this country: many parts are likely to stay in drought for months, and if we have a dry winter then next year will be even more challenging," Bevan writes. "We will need to be less squeamish about where our drinking water comes from. Part of the solution will be to reprocess the water that results from sewage treatment and turn it back into drinking water — perfectly safe and healthy, but not something many people fancy."

Bevan's op-ed comes as US water supplies are under strain due to an ongoing, and worsening drought which has resulted in ten areas being given drought status by the Environment Agency.

Because of this, he says that people simply need to "change the way they think about water," and "treat it as a precious resource, not a free good."

"If we are going to get there, we are all going to have to think differently. Some of these measures will be unpopular, so future governments will need to show political will," he said.

Earlier this year, Singapore's water agency launched a beer made with recycled sewage water in order to raise awareness over the country's water security issues (and probably to mask the taste of poo).

Last month we reported that Los Angeles County is considering a similar move to recycle wastewater to taps.

"There’s been a public health legacy where sanitary engineering practices and regulators considered sewage a waste, it was something to be avoided, something to be feared," said Brad Coffey of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. "Now that we have the technology … the public, the regulators, the scientific community has much greater confidence in our ability to safely reuse that water supply."

The plan hinges on the State Water Resources Control Bord, which legislators have tasked with developing a set of uniform regulations by Dec. 31 which would govern potable reuse.

"This is going to be the future of L.A.’s water, the future of the state’s water supply," said Gonzalez, who added that the Headworks project could come online within the next five years.

LA's plans are much bigger than that, however - as the city has set out to recycle 100% of its wastewater by 2035 per a pledge made by Mayor Eric Garcetti several years ago.

In order to achieve this, LA's Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant - which currently only treats wastewater so it's clean enough to release into Santa Monica Bay - must be completely converted into an advanced water purification facility which produces water that's clean enough to consume.

What else are you going to use to wash the bugs down, after all?

G7 Lunacy: Plan to cap Russian oil prices hand more power to China and Putin

2 September 2022   by Eggbert Nobakon

Vladimir Putin enjoying jerking Europe's srings over gas supply (Picture: Telegraph)

Today's news informed us that leaders of the 'G7' nations (a group which likes to think of itself as made up of the world's most economically powerful nations although China (2) and India (5) are not members while Canada (9) and Italy (10) are) have agreed to  impose a price cap for purchases of Russian oil in a bid to slash Putin’s energy revenues and ease the global energy crunch.

In a joint statement G7 finance ministers announced the goal was to block the transportation of all Russian oil sold above a certain price. The ministers said the plan would be implemented  in line with EU sanctions on Russian oil set to take effect on December 5.

The statement, which notes that all EU nations will have to sign off on any sanctions changes, did not specify a level  at which the cap will be set.

The G7 plan, the latest, and likely to be the most ineffectual to date in the US / NATO / EU attempts to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, would allow buyers of Russian oil under the agreed cap to continue getting crucial services like financing and insurance for tankers. Unfortunately the people who dreamed up this idiocy overlook the fact that sipping capacity, trans - ship transfer facilities and insurance are all available from finance centres in Dubai, Singapore, Mumbai, Shanghai, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, all of which are outside the jurisdiction of the USA, NATO and the EU.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen doubled down on the EU's shooting itself in the foot, shooting herself in  both feet by saying the bloc should impose a price cap on Russian pipeline gas to foil what she described as Putin's attempts to manipulate the energy market.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Moscow would turn off gas supply to Europe if Brussels pushed ahead with a price cap which aptly illustrates the desperate mess the western economies have got themselves into.

Recent trade statistics show Russia was selling more than 40% of their oil to China and India, a lot more than before the war. India and China are then selling it on at an eye watering profit to commodity traders who disguise its origins and sell it into western commodity markets. Thus the price cap will only result in consumers in the nations that have imposed sanctions on Russia paying much more for everything because energy costs have a knock on effect right through the supply chain.

A couple of days ago Moscow agreed a deal with the Japanese and Hungary, and in today's papers it's reported that Austria is toying with buying gas from Russia - and on Russian terms. Putin's regime is odious, but Putin is playing his hand well.

Sanctions already imposed aren't working, Russia sells oil to China/India and what is now called the global south at reduced rates. There is zero reason for them to follow the 'west'. Indeed, even straight after the invasion, it was clear that most of the world was not following the west's sanctions. Meanwhile EU member states and the UK, USA and Canada, Australia and Japan, thanks to their governments complete mismanagement of the Russia / Ukraine crisis, are already facing three domestic crises, food shortages, energy shortages and an inflationary spiral which is driving millions of families into poverty.

As for the non sanctioning nations, the  BRICS bloc (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa,) is set to be made infinitely more powerful by the addition of oil - rich Saudi Arabia. In real time we are witnessing the dividing of the world into 2 blocks, and I fear that we are in the block that will become considerably poorer, and won't even succeed in its goal of winning the USA's proxy war with Russia currently being fought in Ukraine.

This price - cap project is an incredibly stupid move by the G7

7 of the wealthiest, whitest countries in the world with a combined population of less than one third of the planet believe they are capable of dictating to the 6 billion or so on the rest of the planet when those G7 nations are dependent on BRICS members for energy, staple foods, raw materials and manufacturing capacity

The unintended consequences of this ill thought - out move are beyond imagination

Over the medium term it’s likely to give impetus to moves  already under way by China, Russia, India, Turkey and a number of Middle East and African nations to set up alternative financial structures and governance structures, which will have huge international ramifications led by the USA.

It won’t work out well and predictably so because the people who formulated it obviously do not understand how the business they want to manipulate actually works

The international oil trade does not work by shipping lorry loads of oil overland. Commodity dealers make contracts for quantities of oil at agreed prices. So a million barrels of Russian oil sold to a commodity trader in India, China, Singapore or Dubai need not go anywhere near the country where the buyer is based.

Evidence has been widely published in mainstream media revealing that Russian oil is being mixed with Syrian oil, Quatari oil and oil from other sources and sold in the spot markets of the west with the country of origin shown as that from which it was last exported.

This latest idiocy is just more theatrical posing from clueless western leaders. Had these clowns not embraced green and 'net zero' lunacy over the past decade or two we might not now be in the situation of depending on Russia for energy supplies.

The Americans are in cahoots with Zelensky and have really suckered the EU and U.K. into taking the pain over Biden’s proxy war with Russia. This war has made almost all USA energy sources profitable and Biden immediately ordered the frackers to frack despite signing up to net zero.He has also made the US fertiliser industry profitable and filled the order books of the US weapons industry and its supply chain. And his next move is likely to be authorising oil extraction in Alaska's arctic regions.

What is Europe and the U.K. getting in return?

The True Cost Of The Green Energy Boom Is Now Being Realized
For four decades we have been fed a constant stream of propaganda assuring us that green energy was the only way forward if we wanted to secure supplies of the energy essential to a modern society while preventing the environmental catastrophes that would be the inevitable consequence of climate change caused by the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emitted by human industrial, commercial and social activity. ... Soaring Lithium Prices Putting Transition To Electric Cars In Doubt
With battery quality Lithium Carbonate regularly trading at above $US70,000 per ton the impact of this soaring cost of the essential material in batteries for electric vehicles is starting to impact the push to abandon fossil fuels . Worse still, analysts are predicting lithium prices will continue to rise as demand for electric cars and goods vehicles grows.

An Energy Crisis In Tandem With A Food Crisis On Top Of An Economic Crisis And A War. This Cannot End Well.

1 September 2022

The most disturbing thing about the current global mess is the interconnectedness of all the concurrent crises, because the way they are feeding into each other is making each individual case, and the whole, worse.

The curtailment of gas supplies to Europe, (with Germany, the European Union's biggest economy, being hardest hit,) has contributed to the energy crisis but we should not forget the role in the energy crisis played by politicians obsession with 'net zero' and the idea that the sophisticated economies of developed nations can get all the electricity they need, twenty four hours a day, 365 days a year from sources that are 'clean' but unreliable and at best intermittent.

Politicians are determined to blame the current war for energy shortages in Europe and soaring energy prices around the world but the foundations of the crisis were in place long before Russia invaded Ukraine. And Russia's weaponization of energy has brought those variables to light over recent months.

Natural gas is becoming increasingly expensive, with Dutch TTF futures more than 1,000% higher than a year ago, and more pain could come as Russia's Gazprom shuts down Nord Stream 1 this week, allegedly 'for repairs' but more likely to further weaponise its position as the indispensable supplier of energy to EU member states..

Electricity costs, too, have soared, mainly because so many nations have abandoned gas and coal as fuel for generators and shut down nuclear installations under pressure from the green lobby they can no longer service the needs of commercial and domestic consumers at times of peak demand.

"Last week Europe awoke to a bitter truth: the energy crisis is here to stay," a Bank of America analyst wrote Monday. But America is not immune to the problems. Though The USA does not import coal or oil from Russia, the unavailability of these commodities to nations which imposed retaliatory sanctions in support of Ukraine following the Russian invasion has forced up prices on commodity markets in London, New York, Dubai, and Singapore.

Now, EU nations are scrambling to find alternative resources, with coal in particular emerging as a key commodity. A few months ago the UK government extended the life of the coal fired generating plants at West Burton and Radcliffe on Soar and last month also contracted the operator of Drax to extend the life of that coal fired plant until 2024. Plans are also being considered to recommission several more power stations fuelled by coal. Germany is also in the process of reviving coal generated electricity.

These moves mark a reversal for Europe, as it has been EU policy to close down coal plants for years due to climate initiatives.

"Before the war, Europe had wanted to be a leader in decarbonizing, and that's worked out to a certain extent with wind and solar, but they made a choice to place significant reliance on Russia in order to claim progress towards net zero," industry analyst Rob Thummel noted.

He added that, after years of underinvesting, coal is now harder to access and more expensive.

Nonetheless, Europe has little choice other than to fire up shuttered plants because that offers a faster solution than trying to build brand new LNG facilities, while nuclear plants take up to a decade to progress from planning to completion. It is likely take the continent of Europe several years to rebuild generating up the infrastructure to get out of the crisis.

Russia is not only a key supplier of energy, it is also the worlds largest supplier of raw materials for commercial fertilizer. As we approach the end of summer 1922 harvest yields are expected to be down significantly because from March this year exports of those raw materials have been banned by Russia in retaliation for sanctions imposed by NATO and EU member states.

Next year however, the fertilizer crisis is likely to send food prices higher, further adding to the already crippling increase in living costs that is driving millions of families into poverty and destitution. And yet the main military powers in the west (USA, UK and France - the FUKUS axis,) by suplying Ukraine with increasingly expensive and sophisticated weaponry seem to be determined to prolong the war rather than working to bring both sides to the negotiating table.

All this plus the aftermath of the COVID pandemic hoax, with its economically disastrous lockdowns and social disruption has combined to create the financial crisis of 1922. Skyrocketing inflation and higher interest rates are setting the stage for a massive global financial crisis. The world’s major economies are staring at a steep recession.

According to the financial data agency, Namoura countries, including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Canada, Australia, and the Euro-zone, are heading into a recession by the end of 2022. Several of these countries are already in recession at the beginning of September.

The usual way nations try to control inflation is by raising interest rates, but tightening money supply can only impact growth and growth is the only way out of recession. So is the serpent about to eat its tail?

The financial storm forming over te developed world will be global in its effects and could wreck nations economically and politically. Ski Lanka has already fallen into insolvency and civil unrest. As major countries, both rich and poor alike, continue to amass immense debts, the possibility of a global meltdown looks inevitable.

Spurred by the easy money policy placed post the financial crisis 2008-09, central banks have pumped cheap money into economies and governments have elevated spending. Even before the COVID pandemic, governments were lending and spending far too heavily. For example, before the pandemic, the public debt of the world’s 70 poorest nations had gone up by 18% of the GDP. However, experts believe the level of indebtedness here was vastly understated. Thus experts fear that Sri Lanka’s catastrophic economic collapse is a peek into what may unfold in other nations soon.

In spite of the imminent threat of deep and long lasting recession threat, the binge-borrowing by governments of both rich and poor countries continues unabated.

Today, Japan’s debt is proportionately over twice that of the United States which is itself a crippling burden on American taxpayers. However, the Bank of Japan still sticks with its virtual zero interest rate policies. Moreover, the scale of money printing will almost certainly send the already wobbly Yen into a tailspin before the end of the year.

Currency and bond traders fear that this might trigger a financial contagion that will hit the currencies of other deeply indebted Asian economies. However, the crisis can also mushroom in Europe, given the European Central Bank (ECB) continues to buy a massive amount of bonds and a third of EU member states are already economic basket cases.

Furthermore, the US economy is slowing, which will be a drag for the rest of the world. Unfortunately, though, the IMF, the  for financially tlender of last resort for sinking nations, is imposing counter-productive prescriptions, including:

  • Currency Devaluation might worsen the spiking inflation
  • Higher Taxes that will cripple recovery

Today’s world lacks leaders who grasp the simple principle that stable money and low tax rates are fundamental for fast recoveries. In contrast, the Biden Administration is still trying to raise taxes. Even the already imploding global food crisis is worsening due to the Russia-Ukraine War.

Rising borrowing costs, inflation, and debt are all contributing towards economic collapse. According to European sources Belarus is on the verge of defaulting on its debt, as are at least a dozen additional countries—including Russia, Suriname, Zambia, Pakistan, and Lebanon.
