Iran Is Again Willing To Talk About Opening The Strait Of Hormuz Maybe - But Only On Their Terms

Contributed by an Iranian student in UK who wishes to remain anonymous. (Editied for typos and grammar by Boggart Blog.)

It was reported this week that during talks at the recent session of the UN General Assembly Iran repeated its proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz:Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister, told reporters at a press briefing that the proposal closely mirrored the commitments laid out in a so-called memorandum of understanding that was struck between the United States and Iran in June but quickly unravelled.

He said Iran was ready to begin putting the plan into effect as soon as Washington agreed to it.

“We have introduced a plan to the United States through the intermediators that if certain conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz would be open on the end of the seventh day and talks would restart,” Mr. Araghchi said.

The offer is a return to the MoU which is then to be executed in a compressed timeframe:

Iranian officials said that while the proposal was effectively the same as the memorandum of understanding made in June, it was designed to move at a much faster pace. In the earlier agreement, a 60-day time frame was set for reaching nuclear negotiations.

Under the conditions that Iran has set for the agreement, according to Mr. Araghchi, during the seven days all hostilities would end, including in Lebanon; the U.S. would release Iran’s frozen assets — estimated at at least $12 billion — waive sanctions on Iranian oil and lift the naval blockade on Iran. Then, on the last day, the Strait of Hormuz would be opened.

Almost as soon as Washington had officially welcomed the proposal the Iranians denied having made it. However it seems the regime in Tehran is interested in resuming negotiations because Foreign Minister Araghchi has announced he will stay in New York until Monday, presumably to facilitate further talks.

It could be argued at this juncture that the USA and developed nations of the west need a settlement more urgently than Iran as disruption of marine traffic via Hormuz, through which a significant proportion of the world's oil and gas supplies flow is now causing fuel shortages and increasing living costs for western consumers.

A lot of media and political attention is focused on Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Aragchi’s performances in New York last week, based on the false assumption that they represent the actual position of the Iranian state.

This is simply not the case and that was made clear in Pezeshkian’s address to the BRICS group representatives last week.  That pair are more interested in being ‘friends’ with America than advancing the Islamist agenda of the theocratic regime..

Pezeshkian made a big speech on the topic of ensuring that BRICS nations can transfer international funds outside the SWIFT system so they cannot be sanctioned. In he speech he urged that every currency possible be brought into the system so that a foreign investor who wished to can invest in Iran’s businesses.

These developments suggest there is a rift in Tehran between secularists who want an end to the conflict so that normal trade relations with the rest of the world can resume and the Ayatollahs who remain as aloof and isolationist as ever.  Meanwhile the people many of who voted for Pezeshkian about 18 months ago, now disagree entirely and have learned at considerable cost, that Iran cannot possibly trust ‘the west’ especially the USA to do anything other than attack them and steal their resources.

The problem is the so-called ‘reformists’ who have maintained this contradictory position since the 1980’s as they have been seduced by wealth.  That is not the bulk of the people, the military or the religious authorities but government officials seduced by the prospect wealth to be had from corrupt corporate deals – same falsehoods as the rest of the world has faced since time immemorial. Trump certainly wants to gain control of Iran's oil and gas resources but another certainty is that little of the revenue to be earned from those resources is likely to filter down to mid - ranking state officials.

In Iran’s case the sell off has been prevented over the years by Ayatollah Khamenei and his supporters who believes that security comes from everyone in the region feeling secure, hence the work of the late General Solemani.

To gain a better understanding of this mindset watch this documentary which sums up the post revolutionary history. Titled “Khamenei’s Last Move” and scripted by Jedaal TV’s founder Ali Alizadeh the video covers the political in-fighting Khamenei had to overcome to build Iran’s impregnable defenCes.

Houthis Warn West Against Supporting Saudi Arabia In Yemen’s Growing War

For a quarter of a century, the USA been telling us to wait for their war against Iran, and we have been telling them that Iran would win. Here we are and though Iran has not won yet they have successfully resisted US air attacks and lunched a few air strikes of their own that have cost the USA dearly. As conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza and The Persian Gulf drag on could this be the tipping point that sets the world on a path to war?

And as anybody with more than one functioning brain cell would have predicted, Iran has weaponised The Strait Of Hormuz, the narrow sea passage at the entrance to The Persian Gulf through which around 25% of the world's petrochemicals (including oil and liquid petroleum gas must be moved by giant ships, vulnerable to attack by Iranian artillery batteries placed on the high ground of Iran's mountainous coastline overlooking the 20 mile wide strait.

Were that the full extent of the situation we could report that Trump's war on Iraq had ended embarrassingly for him, in stalemate. However over the past couple of weeks a new front has opened in the war as Iran backed Houthi militias have reignited a years old conflict with Saudi Arabia, attacked the east - west oil pipeline through which the Saudis had been diverting oil exports ftom the Gulf coast to the Red Sea.

The Houthi, officially known as  Ansar Allah are warning western against joining Saudi Arabia in Yemen’s revived civil war, telling The Associated Press on Sunday that the group has assured the Trump administration that it won’t attack U.S. vessels in the Red Sea.

Mohamed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthis’ political bureau, said Washington reached out to the rebels after their rapid advance down Yemen’s western coast to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait earlier this month have then control of the route in and out of Saudi Arabia's Red Sea oil ports, the alternative route through the Suez Canal being unsuitable for the vast tankers which transport oil and gas.

The magnitude of this project is increased by the deteriorating situation for the western economies in Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump last weekend said his administration has “had discussions” with the Houthis, but did not say when. “The Houthis called us, and they don’t want to fight with us,” he said. “They would much prefer not having us involved, and they’re letting most ships go through.”

Others say the US Government has gone mad.

The more we learn about the Houthis, the less surprising it becomes that the group should have embarrassed the US Navy in 2024 and 2025 (in a foretaste of the second Iran war, Washington simply gave up firing its expensive missiles at Houthi forces), and fought a large Sunni-Arab coalition to a standstill between 2015 and 2019. Despite intense bombardments, and serious battlefield defeats, the Houthis have retained Sana’a, Yemen’s capital which they conquered in 2014.

Only the Israelis, who briefly got into a missile exchange with the Houthis in 2025, have managed to deter them: they went after the Houthis’ oil supplies, energy infrastructure, ports, airports, and, perhaps most important, senior personnel. Sure enough, the Houthis stopped firing at Israel.

Either way, it’s little wonder that the Houthis are now back, seizing land along the Red Sea littoral and the islands of Perim and Greater and Lesser Hanish, thereby putting into jeopardy Saudi Arabia’s capacity to export oil via its east-west pipeline.

Without outside support, Sunni Yemenis would have had no chance on the battlefield against their Shi’ite countrymen. The Houthis have received some support from Hezbollah and Iran — but not nearly on the level that Sunnis have received from foreigners since the Sixties.

Because of the long lasting conflict with the Saudis, Yemen has been one of the worst humanitarian catastrophies in the first quarter of this century. But the poorest Arabs are about to beat the richest, the nerve centre of Islamist terrorism all the way back to 9/11 and beyond. The Saudi alliance with Turkey and Pakistan has failed its first test, the allegation that Mecca and Medina were about to be bombed has been dismissed out of hand by an Islamic world that would have exploded if anyone had believed it.

Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz, Ansar Allah controls the Bab al-Mandab, and we either make peace with those facts, or we shiver and starve. This is called defeat, a common consequence of either backing the wrong side or interfering in matters that did not concern one. Never again let the trade unions or anyone else be accused of the latter when we involved ourselves in foreign policy. From the petrol pump to the pumping of blood, we pay the price.

‘We’re Not At War With Russia,’ Germany's Chancellor Scholz tells Warmongering French Ouanqeur Macron
Though Macron's recent posturing as a reincarnated Napoleon by calling on his fellow European leaders to send troops to fight alongside the Ukrainian military may have been nothing more than an ill - advised attempt to deflect attention from online conspiracy theories that his wife Brigitte is, or was at some time in the past, a man, the ploy, if that is what it was, has backfired.

Total Defeat Of Ukraine By Russia Is Only A Matter Of Time
Financial Times columnist and founder member of the Vobblyvoddymyr Zelensky piano playing penis fan club, Gideon Rachman has a talent for stating the obvious which he displays in a recent article on the state of play in the Ukrainian conflict 'Ukraine and its backers need a credible path to victory - archived. As the Financial Times is behind a paywall with no monthly allocation of free articles, below is a sommary of the most importyant section:

Is The West About To Abandon Ukraine?
n a fresh interview with Germany's national television service ARD on Saturday (2 December,) NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned viewers to prepare for for more "bad news" from Ukraine. Asked for his opinion on whether the situation will worsen for Ukrainian as winter sets in, after the much hyped summer counteroffensive turned into a catastrophic failure he responded, "Wars develop in phases.

The War In Ukraine Is Entering A Significant Phase - SitRep
With all the other troubles in the world its easy to overlook the news from Ukraine which suggests that conflict is entering a a crucial phase as the western allies find it inceasingly difficult to keep up with Kiev's demands for cash, weapons and ammo. Big Serge has a rather long situation report on Substack and it will not make happy reading for the Zelensky fan club in the west:

Game Over For Zelensky - NATO andEU Officials Urge Ukraine To Seek Peace
As this blog predicted early last month, following the catastrophic failure of Ukraine's 'counter offensive' to push Russian troops out of their country, American and European leaders who have previously been solidly behind the doomed Ukrainian war with its powerful neighbour, are rapidly going cool on their pledges of unlimited support for puppet - president Zelensky and his far - right masters.

Ukraine's Military Commander Admits Counter - offensive Has Failed And The Battlefield Position Is Stalemate
Since Russian troops crossed the border into Ukraine, back in February 2022, those of us who questioed the Russia bad, Ukraine goood narrative have been targeted by torrents of abuse hurled by pseudo - patriots and armchair soldiers, and called a 'Kremlin stooges', Russian agents', 'Putin supporters', and enemies of freedom. Ukraine Too Corrupt To Join The EU Says Former EU Leader Juncker
Former EU Commission President and world class oenophile Jean-Claude Juncker, stated this week in unusually blunt terms that are perhaps a sign of the times, that Ukraine is not ready to join the EU due to its being "corrupt at all levels of society," the former European Commission president, said in unusually blunt language during an interview with Germany’s Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper this week.

There Is Only One Way Ukraine Can End The War
As Ukraine's much hyped counterattack has failed to achieved the and momentum that hoped for by American and NATO leaders including President Volodymyr Zelensky who admitted it was "slower than desired", and a range of soldiers interviewed by BBC and Sky News television reporters t on different parts of the long (probably too long given the depletion of Ukrainian military manpower,) frontline have blamed minefields laid by Russian troops for that delay. Well as is often said, in any wartruth is the first casualty.

Who Blew Up The Nordstream Pipeline
So whodunnit? Sabotage of undersea gas pipe will escalate tension and move the world closer to nuclear war, but who is behind it, Russia in a bid to put more presure on Europe, Ukraine in an attempt to drag NATO into direct action, or the USA using a CIA false flag event to advance its own agenda.

Has Putin Has Pushed Europe Into Economic Depression, Hyperrinflation and Currency Collapse?
Though it was entirely predictable and indeed had been expected for some time, the news over the weekend that the Nord Stream 1 pipeline which feeds gas from Russia to northern Europe via The Baltic route had been shut down completely by The Kremlin in retaliation for the continued financial and military support given by NATO and EU member states to Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. The European Commission, governing body of the EU, immediately put the community on something close to a war footing, ...

Is Russia Selling Its Oil To The World Through An Obscure Egyptian Port?
As this blog predicted when NATO and EU member states shot themselves in the foot by reacting to Russia's invasion of Ukraine with sanctions that prevented Russia from selling oil, gas and vital raw materials to the countries that needed them most, the NATO and EU member states, the Russians have had no problems finding alternative customers for their gas and oil and no problem getting oil into the world's commodity markets through the back door.

Jingoistic Western Triumphalism Will Not End The War In Ukraine Or Cripple Putin, But It Is Crippling Western Nations

As the war in Ukraine grinds on and Russia steps up its economic war against the west and in particular The European Union, claims made recently by the idiotically 'woke' leaders of Europe's main economic and military powers that the West has a once-in-a–generation chance to severely weaken Russia’s capabilities, both militarily and geopolitically, look increasingly hollow. Putin's critics have cited 'Western unity' as one of the main reasons why Russia will be economically destroyed and politically humiliated when the Ukraine's military finally claim victory.

European Union Is Again Close To A Meltdown As Eurozone Economy Collapses

Russian Long Range Missile Test Fuels Nuclear War Fears As NATO Pushed Ukraine To Escalate Conflict
Russia tested its latest intercontinental ballistic missile yeserday, the Satan II has a range of 10,000 miles and can devastate an area of 250,000 square kilometers according to military experts. Bizarrely commentators in mainsteam and online news services portrayed this as a sign of weakness by Russia, though the same people cheered when Joe (Dementiaman) Biden threratened a nuclear response if Russia crossed his 'red lines' in Ukraine ...

We The Good Guys Versus They The Bad Guys Reporting Does Not Make Sense For The Ukraine Crisis
Mainstream media reporting of the conflict in Ukraine has disappointed. Perhaps I was naive to suppose that lessons might have been learned from the hits their print sales and online traffic rates took as a result of their handling the COVID pandemic But instead of focusing on the most obviously newsworthy aspect of the build up to and escalation of the war, Russia’s view of NATO expansion into Ukraine and even further to Georgia and Kazakhstan, news reports have simply demonised Russia and portrayed Ukraine as the good guys.

Boris and Biden Can't Blame Ukraine War For Energy Crisis
With typical arrogance and condescension towards the people who elected them Boris Johnson, Joe Biden and their respectiive presstitutes are trying to spin the energy crisis Europe and North America are currently facing as somehow being linked to the conflict in Ukraine and therfore blame is being attactched to Russia and Vladimir Putin. Do they really think we are stupid enough to believe such unmitigated bollocks? ...

Even If The War In Ukraine Ends, Sanctions Will Stay - So How Bad Will The Food Crisis Get?
Western leaders, desperate to show their own countries they were taking a firm stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, were quick to impose economic sanctions ... so quick in fact that they acted before they had though things through. While freezing Russia out of the global finance system they have exacerbated the wests energy crisis, while Russia's retaliatory ban on raw materials (fertiliser) exports will create extra problems on top of those we already had ...

Europe's Depleted Gas Storage Might Not Get Refilled Ahead Of Next Winter
While mainstream news reporting of the conflict in Ukraine continues to pump out a torrent of anri - Russia, pro - war propaganda the catastropic effects of this war that could so easily have been avoided are not mentioned. Prepare For Fuel Shortages And Cost Of Living Rises As Gulf War Spreads To The Red Sea

As the conflict between the USA and Iran flares up again arount the Strait of Hormuz, th vital marine passage through which most of the oil and petrolium products of the middle east must pass on the way to world markets, Yemeni  Houthi militias (Ansar Allah,) have seized the strategic Red Sea port city of Mokha from Saudi-backed pro-government forces, military sources and witnesses say.

The Iran - aligned Houthi, who have taken control of most of Yemen's southern coast threatened that they would target vessels from Saudi Arabia, which has relied on the Red Sea for oil exports since the US and Israel's war with Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf  also forced troops of the Saudi backed official government of Yemen to withdraw from Perim island in the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the entrance to The Red Sea, effectively giving the Houthi forces control of the other main passage for Saudi oil..

Footage from the seized Bab el-Mandeb coast shows a Houthi fighter at Hisn Murad declaring “We don’t need missiles. We don’t need drones.” He says artillery along the Murad coast and on Perim will stop non-compliant vessels and “cut any and all shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb now,” and that the Houthis will dig in on Perim after seizing it.
This disruption to the two waterways is already affecting the price of oil and petrolum products and having a knock on effect on the prices consumers must pay for almost everything.

Perim splits the strait at its narrowest point into two channels. The main shipping lane runs between Perim and the Djibouti coast, about 25 kilometers wide, and the smaller channel between Perim and the Yemeni mainland is under 3 kilometers. Yemen’s Houthis now hold the mainland shore and the island in the middle, putting both lanes inside the range of ground fire,

The strait is the southern gateway to a key shipping route that links Asia and Europe via the Red Sea and Suez canal. However the canal cannot accommodate the million ton supertankers which now move the bulk of middle east oil and gas to the industrial and commercial centres of South East Asia, Europe and The Americas.

Ansar Allah controls the most important Mayyun Island in the Middle of Bab el-Mandeb and Dhubab, a small coastal town in the Taiz Governorate of southwestern Yemen, after al-Mocha. Ansar Allah controls approximately 8.1 million barrels per day crossing Bab el-Mandeb, 8% of global LNG trade and 30% of global container traffic, according to the World Bank.

No Israeli or Saudi ships are being allowed through Bab el-Mandeb.

What makes this latest development more serious is the Houthis display an extremely high degree of organizational cohesion that is very rare in the Muslim world. The Houthis currently control a population of around 20 million in Yemen (the internationally recognised government is in exile in Saudi Arabia,) yet they are able to field an army of several hundred thousand to one million. This army is highly combat-effective. The soldiers are driven by religious conviction or in many cases fanaticism, and willpower

It has now been confirmed that the crucial 'Hormuz bypass' East-West oil pipeline through which the Saudis had been pumping iol from the fields on the Persian Gulf coast, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates across Saudi Arabia to ports on the Red Sea has been hit by Houthi artillery and is on fire at a point about 80km to 100km from town of Al Mesba'ah.

Amid speculation that the attack is another Houthi strike on Saudi Arabia's oil trade, CNN in a new Friday report cites two US officials who've given confirmation that the pipeline was struck by projectiles on late Thursday. These reports suggested the missiles which damaged the pipeline originated in Iran although unconfirmed reports say the missiles mat have been launched by Tehran backed groups in Iraq. According to the report:

An early analysis found that pump stations, which are located next to the pipeline itself, were hit, one of the US officials said. A satellite image taken Friday appears to show extensive fire damage at one pumping station, and an image of a different pumping station, taken Thursday, showed a small fire sending up plumes of thick, black smoke.

With the pipeline still burning it is impossible to estimate how repairs to the might take. Meanwhile the Strait of Hormuz, though not officially closed is carrying about ten per cent of its usual traffic levels.

This handout satellite image taken by Planet Labs PBC on September 11, 2026 shows a general view of an infrastructure site after it was damaged by fire southeast of Medina along the general route of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline (Petroline).

Saudi Arabia Bids For Islamic Globalisation
soon after the suicide bomb at The Manchester Arena, I felt obliged to defriend someone on facebook, whom I have known online for around ten years. So what did this sweet lady, who writes books on medieval witchcraft and calls herself a pagan, do to piss me off? She showed herself to be a hypocrite by posting a whinge about people reacting with anger and 'hate' to this latest atrocity; "I'm all about compassion, I will not stand by and see Muslims victimised because of this." Oh yeah? And what about the dead and injured victimised by a muslim extremist?

The War With Iran Is On - No It's Off - No It's On Again

The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre (UKMTO) reported late on Tuesday afternoon that it had received imformation about a tanker being hit by an Iranian drone and sustaining "minor structural damage" while passing through the  Strait of Hormuz., the gas and oil transit chokepoint at the entrance to the Persian Gulf.

The agency said no casualties or environmental impacted had been reported so far and that the vessel was "continuing to its next port of call".

Around 40 minutes earlier, UKMTO said another tanker was reportedly struck by an "unidentified projectile" in the Strait, taking "structural damage". Again no casualties have been reported, it added.

The agency is investigating the incidents and advised vessels in the area to proceed with caution.

Early on Tuesday morning, a third ship reported being hit in the region by an "unknown projectile on the port side," causing a fire, per UKMTO.

According to the agency, the ship was sailing south out of the Strait, close to Limah, Oman. Again, it said there were no recorded casualties or impacts to the environment.

Iran's Fars News Agency claimed one of the ships struck in the Strait is the Al-Ruqayat, which was targeted after allegedly ignoring IRGC navy warnings while passing through the Strait's Omani route. Tehran has said only its approved route through the Strait of HOrmuz is safe. The elite Iranian IRGC resiment did not directly claim the assault, but The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had fired at two commercial ships.

Majed Al Ansari, a spokesperson for Qatar's foreign ministry, has condemned the attack on the Qatari tanker, calling it an "unacceptable attack on the security & safety of international maritime navigation".

Ansari added that the government of Qatar held Iran "fully legally responsible for this attack & for any resulting damages & consequences".

The Strait of Hormuz has been at the centre of tensions between Washington and Tehran and is a key part in the "memorandum of understanding" agreed by the two sides in June, but constant violations suggest a deal to end the war is as far off as ever

Iran had effectively closed off the Strait after the US launched military action against Iran in February, sparking chaos in global energy markets. Iran's latest violations of the fragile ceasefire come as the world waited for President Trump's response to attacks on commercial shipping at the end of last month. Many commentators opine that negotiations will collapse and full scale war will erupt again as Iran continues to weaponise the strait against The USA and Israel.

Brent crude oil rose 1.4pc to $73 a barrel following the strike, which Iranian state television said happened after the liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker ignored warnings. Crude oil and Brent is still lower than when the Iran war started and the Gas price before the Ukrainian War started. Yet our petrol is 20p a litre higher and The Energy Cap is 30% higher. We are being totally ripped off and shop prices continue to rocket dur to the transport and energy costs. The cost of living crisis is being ignored by the media but it's forcing millions into debt or poverty.

Oil as a commodity is INCREDIBLY cheap. Just look at a 25 year timeline and take inflation into account. It is the stinking greedy Government that is milking us.

And UK's crazy 'Minister for Net Zero' Ed Miliband is hellbent on locking us into the highest electricity prices in the developed world.

Does Trump's Crazy Rhetoric Suggest He Plans To Nuke Iran?

https://as1.ftcdn.net/v2/jpg/05/49/64/38/1000_F_549643864_CRjKVdZ2hkWztULBmdYwxm7ROu84wwRE.jpg
Nuclear explosion (Picture - adobe stock image )

American President Donald Trump inexplicably gambled the future of the world and his own political legacy on achieving regime change in Iran. From last summer's first shouts in the campaign to replace the theocratic regime this blog warned that Iran was not some third world failed state which could easily be rolled over.

Now Trump's Iran gamble, which was always a risky bet, is poised on a knife edge, the Iranian's have so far given as good as they get in terms of air and drone strikes, have invoked asymmetric warfare by weaponising the Strait of Hormuz through which, when shipping can move freely through it, approximately a quarter of the worlds oil, natural gas and petroleum products are distributed..

At first, in the opening days of the current round of hostilities most conservative opinion in the USA was behind Trump but currently, five weeks into the war, it is getting harder to find commentators who are backing him to the hilt. Even some of his more usually supportive backers are getting cold feet. Andrew Day in American Conservative is worried that Trump might use nukes in Iran:

A new rhetorical theme emerged last week, when Trump threatened to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages”. The phrase is associated with Curtis LeMay, who served as Air Force chief of staff during the Vietnam war. LeMay is known for something else too: his promotion of nuclear weapons and complaint that Americans had a “phobia” of using them.

Trump doesn’t seem to share that deranged perspective, but nuclear anxieties are growing thanks to his belligerence. Two weeks ago, a United Nations representative resigned from his post and leaked the disturbing information that “the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran”. Days earlier, officials from the World Health Organisation told Politico they were worried about a possible nuclear attack.

If Trump decides to go further and actually push the big red button, at least one of his main advisors likely wouldn’t object. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has echoed Trump’s threat to send Iran back to the Stone Age, and he says US armed forces should aim for “maximum lethality, not tepid legality”.

As Trump's threats and claims have become crazier day by day it looks as if nuclear is on the agenda. Many American commentators think there is a strong likelihood the US will use a nuclear weapon. Who is going to object? America's NATO allies in the UK and Europe have surrendered the right to do that because of the way they hve distanced themselves from the whole escapade. Russia and China are Iran's allies but it is unlikely they would risk all out war with The USA over Iran. Both would probably instigate moves to have America censured by theUnited Nations and then take a PR advantage of the situation since their leadership is not crazy like ours is (in the US).

There is no certainty that the Iranians, like the Japanese will surrender should the US use a weapon of mass destruction, more likely they would retreat and allow a US occupation and then wage guerilla warfare for years, knowing that the American public do not like US soldiers returning home in body bags.

Will there be someone in the US government able to stop such a thing? We shall see. This is an existential struggle for Iran but also for the American global hegemony. If the US allows Iran to win that would be the beginning of the end of the Petrodollar Empire as many are predicting.

Trump's Rant About Iran's Obliterated Air Defences, Navy And Ability To Pursue The War Was Quickly Shot Down

by Arthur Foxake, 5 Aprul 2026

Donald Trump said that unless Iran opened the Strait of Hormuz, 'they won't have any power plants and they won't have any bridges standing'

In a bad tempered rant laden with expletives Donald Trump has threatened to strike more of Iran’s critical infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened by Tuesday.

Ludicrously claiming Iran's air defences had been obliterated on a weekend when at least three American aircraft were shot down by those 'obliterted' air defences did nothing at all to boost the President's credibility, not that he had much of that left anyway.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one ... Open the f---ing strait, you crazy b-----rds, or you’ll be living in hell – just watch! Praise be to Allah,” Trump ranted on Truth Social.

This latest threat is likely to have exactly as much effect on the people Trump only days ago called 'the new, more reasonable regime, as all his previous ones. Closing the sea entrance to The Persian Gulf was always Iran's secret weapon since the regime seized control of the vital waterway at the start of the conflict, only allowing ships from friendly countries to sail through it.

The US president previously gave Tehran a 10-day window to agree to a deal to end the war and reopen the strait. When that deafline passed  he appeared to extend that deadline to “Tuesday, 8:00 PM” in a social media post and insisted a deal with Tehran could still be struck as soon as Monday.

We can only wait to see what happens on Tuesday when the strait remains closed.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has said that they can sustain the Strait of Hormuz closure for years and will cut US military logistics, a senior security official told Iranian broadcaster Press TV, citing the sea-based supply of regional American bases.

Though the 2026 crisis has so far affected mainly The Gulf States and east Asian nations, if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened it will eventually hit Europe harder than a couple of years of the special military operation. Europe has become the main victim of the US /Isreali coalition’s war with Iran, and it is preparing for the worst period since 2022, as well as sharply increased fuel costs.

The data is interim, but with oil rising by $20-30 (for example, from $85 to $110, which has been observed over the past couple of weeks) and the EU’s oil imports at around 10 mbpd, daily spending increases by $200-300 million per day. This will result in €70-100 billion in additional oil costs by the end of the year.

Even without extreme peaks, the growth of LNG contracts and spot prices gives +10–20% to the current base – or €40–70 billion of additional costs. Thus, with Europe's energy infrsstructure already at crisis point due to the obsessive pursuit of Net Zero, energy losses alone will amount to €110–170 billion. The rise in energy prices leads to a decline in industrial performance. This primarily affects the chemical, metallurgical, and fertilizer industries.

But the financial crisis will be worse than the energy crisis.

In a moderate scenario, they could fall by 5-15% (underproduction and capacity conservation), which would result in a loss of €120-200 billion in industrial output. Additionally, the side effects of inflation would result in another €80-120 billion in losses due to domestic demand. The decline in indices (STOXX 600) by 6-10% per month (according to Reuters) is not only a concern for speculators, who would lose €800 billion to €1.2 trillion on paper.

There is also a real effect, underinvestment. It will amount to €50-100 billion.Even without an extreme scenario, Europe will have to unearth its budgets to compensate for prices and support industry. It all depends on generosity, but €50-100 billion in additional expenses can be seen.In general, the total losses of the EU from the US war in Iran will amount to €410-690 billion by the New Year. Because even if the war ends quickly, many of the Gulf’s production facilities have already been destroyed, and key LNG infrastructure will take a year or more to repair.

This means that energy prices will not drop to their previous levels. Additionally, if Trump continues to wage war, with oil prices exceeding \$120 and gas prices fluctuating, the EU’s net losses could exceed a trillion euros per year. By the way, from the beginning of the special military operation to Iran, the transition to new energy rails and the associated production problems (the German company BASF has shut down in Germany and moved to China), the EU’s total losses were estimated at €2.0-2.4 trillion in cumulative economic effects.

This includes overpayments for energy (€700-900 billion), reduced production (€600-800 billion), and subsidies (€650-750 billion).Europe has lost about €2+ trillion of economic resources over the past 3-4 years, and the damage could exceed a trillion per year. The situation has become worse because energy has become structurally expensive, rather than temporarily expensive.

In fact, Europe is transitioning to a new model of expensive and not always physically accessible energy, with the relocation of energy-intensive industries outside the EU (deindustrialization) and an increased dependence on imports. This includes not only energy but also energy-intensive goods.

When the reality of all this finally dawns on European virtue-signalling-obsessed leaders it will be too late for them to staep back from this journey to civilisational suicide they have put their countries on.

Iran - US Peace Talks Dead - Well We All Knew They Were Stillborn

by Arthur Foxake, 3 April 2026

Peace talks between the US and Iran aimed at ending the middle east conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping have reached a “dead end”, mediators have said. A spokesman for theThe Islamic Republic regime told negotiators from third-party countries attempting to mediate negotiations that US demands were “unacceptable”, according to The Wall Street Journal. Tehran said it was unwilling to meet US officials in Pakistan in the coming days as planned.

Islamabad had hosted initial talks to end the Gulf war alongside foreign ministers from Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, which were never attended by the US, Israel or Iran.Officials from Turkey and Egypt are still considering new venues for talks, including Doha or Istanbul, and are also looking at fresh proposals to overcome the deadlock, according to the mediators.

Negotiations have stalled since Donald Trump, the US president, presented Tehran with a 14-point peace plan that was deemed unrealistic by the Iranian regime.

Iran has now gained leverage for its negotiating position by closing the entrance to the Persian Gulf and disrupting global oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Though Trump is making ridiculous claims about his ceasefire ending the war and having crushed Iran, the US that is more keen on a peace deal as Iran has the advantage here, and to the Ayatollahs who lead that country every war is a holy war and they are never going to meekly roll over.

Trump can bomb them back to the stone age which would be a war crime since it targets civilians, but that will take a lot of bombs and a lot of time because Iran has a huge land area. However provided Iran can fire the odd drone or missile or launch a small, fast, heavily armed boat from its mosquito fleet periodically at tankers in The Gulf, no insurance will be possible and the Strait of Hormuz remains shut.

With Russia and China supporting Iran with weapons and technology the greatet risk of escalation for the USA is that, having seen the weakness of the western alliance, the BRICS powers might just decide the opportunity to destroy American economic dominance is too good to miss.

The west can expect elevated gas, food and oil prices for a long time, government debt will become more expensive, living costs - already at crisis level due to misguided Net Zero policies - will continue to rise and the global economy will be plunged into recession.

There is now no way out of this for Trump without regime change  and though he claimed the reigime had been destroyed the old guard are still in place, this is why the USA needs a negotiated peace. The only other way to end the war os a land invasion which requires hundreds of thousands of troops and offers no gurantee of success. There would be a 50 / 50 chance of another forever war like Iraq, Aghanistan or \vietnam.

The White House and The Pentagon have miscslculated badly here, this blog warned Iran would be no pushover and most military experts said the same. The tolerance for pain from the regime is much greater than  Western poplations are prepared to put up with. I am no fan of the Islamists and have felt for a long time that Iran's theocratic regime needed to be dealt with however this is not going to end well for Trump or the global economy
