We Told You Provoking Russia Was A Bad Idea: Germany Is Shutting Down As Energy Crisis Paralyzes Economy

 

Avreport to Financial Times  confirms G that as we have warned (and been called conspiracy theorists and Putin supporters for our trouble,) Germany is now rationing fuel for heating, dimming street lights and closinf public swimming pools as the impact of its energy crunch brought about by the failure of 'green' energy policies and its sanctions on Russia and their retaliatory actions arising from the war in Ukraine start to hit hard. Everything from industry to offices, leisure centers and residential homes is being subjected to pressures.

Germany's creeping paralysis is exacerbated by the huge increase in gas prices triggered by Russia’s move last month to sharply reduce supplies to Germany. Russian retaliation for EU sanctions has plunged Europe’s biggest economy into the worst energy crisis since the oil price shock of 1973 (see "What's Unfolding In Europe In Recent Days Is A Fresh Big Negative Supply Shock")

With electricity prices rising to new, record levels almost every day, gas importers and utilities are fighting for survival while consumer bills are going through the roof, with some warning of imminent hyperinflation and warnings of a return to the days of wheelbarrows full of cash that resulted from similar mismanagement of the economy under the Weimar Republic in the 1920s, a social catastrophe that triggered the rise of the Nazis.

“The situation is more than dramatic,” said Axel Gedaschko, head of the federation of German housing enterprises GdW. “Germany’s social peace is in great danger.”

Unfortunately, as tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine escalate with NATO, Washington and the EU seemingly set on a course for all out war with Russia, German officials fear the situation could quickly get worse. On Monday July 11, Russia is shutting down its main pipeline to Germany, Nord Stream 1, for 10 days of scheduled maintenance. Many in Berlin fear it will never reopen.

Commenting on the infamous July 22 day when Russian  is expected to resume flowing, DeutscheBank's Jim Reid writes that "while we all spend most of our time thinking about a global recession, I suspect what happens to Russian gas in H2 is potentially an even bigger story. Of course by July 22nd parts may have be found and the supply might start to normalise. Anyone who tells you they know what is going to happen here is guessing but as minimum it should be a huge focal point for everyone in markets."

The bank also warns that "if the gas shutoff is not resolved soon this would lead to a worsening energy disruption with material effects on economic growth, and of course much higher inflation."

Anticipating the worst case outcome, Germany last month took its first step towards rationing gas when economy minister Robert Habeck activated the second stage of the country’s gas emergency plan. “The situation on the gas market is tense and unfortunately we can’t guarantee that it will not get worse,” he said on Tuesday. “We have to be prepared for the situation to become critical.”

Habeck, who says he is now taking shorter showers, has appealed to the population to save energy — and municipalities and property owners have heeded the call.

Earlier today, Vonovia, the country’s largest residential landlord, said it would be lowering the temperature of its tenants’ gas central heating to 17C between 11pm and 6am. It said the measure would save 8 per cent in heating costs.

A housing association in the Saxon town of Dippoldiswalde, near the Czech border, went a step further this week, saying it was rationing the supply of hot water to tenants. From now on they can only take hot showers between 4am-8am, 11am-1pm and 5pm-9pm.

“As we announced in our general meeting, we have to save for the winter,” a notice in the affected blocks reads.

Such measures could become routine in the coming weeks.

Some have already taken measures. The district of Lahn-Dill, near Frankfurt, is switching off the hot water in its 86 schools and 60 gyms from mid-September. a The city of Düsseldorf has temporarily closed a massive swimming pool complex, the Münster-Therme. Meanwhile, Berlin has turned down the thermostat on open-air swimming pools, reducing their temperature by 2 degrees. In western Germany, Cologne is dimming its street lighting to 70 per cent of full strength from 11pm.

Residential customers are also taking action, reactivating wood-burning stoves and fireplaces. Sales of firewood, wood pellets and coal, as well as of gas canisters and cartridges, have shot up.

Reviving The Covid Scare - New Variants Do Not Kill Or Make People Ill But More Clotshots Are Needed Anyway

Over-50s could get a FOURTH Covid jab in autumn to fend off NHS winter crisis as Omicron drives up new cases and hospital admissions the Daily Mail reports. 

Over-50s are set to be offered a Covid booster jab as early as autumn it was revealed yesterday as health authorities planned the latest 'fightback' against a surge in the number of non - lethal asymptomatic infections by the latest COVID variants.

Around six million people classed as vulnerable or at risk are understood to be in line for a fourth shot as the latest sub-variants of the Omicron strain continue to rapidly spread. However the push to inject people with the non - immunising, highly lethat 'clotshot' will be extended to the over 50s accoring to government sources.

Outbreaks across Europe are being fuelled by Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5, which are thought to be even more infectious than the BA.2 strain that caused infections in the UK to spiral to a record 4.1million in April. Unfortunately for the scaremongers a little research reveals this latest fear and panic campain to be another hoax.

Yesterday’s ONS publication on all cause deaths by vaccination status potentially gives some new insights into what is behind the recent increase in all cause mortality in England following the Spring boosters.

In particular it appears to show that the relative mortality of the vaxed (vaxed mean any dose throughout this post) relative to the unvaxed has worsened since the Spring boosters started (between March and May), although that’s a trend that has been happening for some time. And so the recent high all cause mortality has a significant component related to vaccine damage.

Here is a chart of the relative all cause mortality, measured using monthly age standardised mortality (ASM) from yesterday’s ONS publication. ASM adjusts for age differences between vaxed and unvaxed and reflects deaths mainly in the older population where most deaths happen.

In May 2021 all cause mortality was 1.91 times the rate in the unvaxed as in the vaxed (ASM of 1718.8 vs 901.6 per 100,000)

However non-covid mortality in May 2021 was similarly higher in the unvaxed relative to the vaxed at 1.87 times the rate (ASM per 100,000 of 1,673.4 vs 895.4). Given that an experimental vaccine can’t help with non-covid deaths (noting that there has clearly been no under-recording of covid deaths from when vaccines started) the higher all cause death rate in the unvaxed is not due to any vaccine efficacy.

So the higher rate of mortality in the unvaxed is probably due to the ONS significantly understating the unvaxed population or a selection effect because the general health of the unvaxed is much worse than that of the vaxed. This health (or terminal illness) explanation is unlikely to be the reason as the Norman Fenton etal paper showed as in practice it was the most vulnerable who were vaccinated first.

In March 2022 all cause mortality was 1.24 times the rate in the unvaxed as in the vaxed (ASM of 1,231.7 vs 992.6 per 100,000)

In May 2022 all cause mortality was 1.06 times the rate in the unvaxed as in the vaxed (ASM of 872.9 vs 822.6 per 100,000)

So the relative mortality of the unvaxed relative to the vaxed has reduced from 1.91 to 1.26 to 1.06 times from May 2021 to March 2022 to May 2022.

Some would say we shouldn’t try to unpick the ONS data because it is clearly wrong as indicated above; a reasonable viewpoint. I take a different view. I suggest we should ignore the absolute ONS mortality rates (for reasons implied above) as they likely incorporate an understatement of the unvaxed population. So the current 1.06 rate doesn’t mean the unvaxed are (adjusted for age) dying at a 6% higher rate than the vaxed. And we need to be careful with misallocated deaths occurring in the vaxed in the first few weeks after first vaccination (for reasons Clare Craig and others have given). However if we look at changes to the relative rates of mortality for periods after most of those first vaccinations in those most likely to die have happened then we can glean some information.

In particular the fall in the relative rates of all cause mortality in the unvaxed vs the vaxed from March 2022 to May 2022 is tentative further evidence that the Spring boosters have caused significant damage, rather than the high mortality just being about lack of access to healthcare due to the disastrous pandemic response that affects both vaxed and unvaxed alike.
 
This post is based on my first glance of yesterday’s ONS publication. So I may have made a mistake somewhere. And if anyone spots anything wrong with this logic then I would be interested.

The (Carefully Planned) Global Food Crisis: Dutch Farmers To Protest EU Attck On Food Supply And Their Livelihood

Farmers from all over the Netherlands are to protest policies imposed by their government in collaboration with the authoritarian unelected bureaucrats of the European Union, which if fully implemented would reduce the number of livestock kept on farms in the country by up to 35%.

In a typical example of government / mainstream media propaganda doublespeak, press and broadcast news reports are leading on deceptive headlines  such as “Dutch farmers protest emissions targets”, but this is perfect example of lying by only telling part of the truth.

The policy farmers are protesting against is a 25 BILLION Euro scheme ained at “reducing levels of nitrogen pollution” which taken at face value seems to fit in with the globalist projects to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions (and global population but they do not mention that bit,) by 55%, but the devil is in the detail. The policy is actually an attack on the Dutch farming industry,the government and their European Union paymasters aim to achieve this by (among other things) “paying some Dutch livestock farmers to relocate or exit the industry”.

The reality of this will involve reducing the number of pigs, chickens and cows by about thirty per cent  and that is what the farmers in the picture are being protesting about – a deliberate and planned (in Davos at the World Economic Forum we guess, contraction of the Dutch agricultural sector, destroying the  the livelihood of thousands of farmers, and adding to the disruption of food supplies already cause by the the EU / NATO backed Ukrainian war. As The Netherlands produces a massive food surplus this globalist policy will affect the lives of hundreds of millions of people, fuelling spiralling living costs as well as creating wholly avoidable shortages..

The bigger picture

Claiming the scheme is about limiting nitrogen and ammonia emissions from urine and manure as well as CO2 emissions from livestock farming neatly ties the policy the one of the biggest lies of globalism, that climate change poses an existential threat to human civilisation. However it only takes the slightest degree of scepticism to see this in the broader context of the ongoing Great Reset, of which the created food crisis is a component.

As well as the food surplus it produces, the agricultural sector of The Netherlands is one of the largest exporters of meat in the world and THE largest in Europe. Reducing its output by a third could have huge implications for the global food supply, especially in Western Europe is the equivalent of taking Ukrainian and Russian grain and oil seed crops out of the food supply chain.

Perhaps more troubling is how this could become a precedent for further5 globalist actions against the people of the developed world.

One thing we know for certain about the people behind this whole globalist push to destabilise the societies of developed nations is that they are so lacking in imagination they are utterly predictable, which gives us a big clue as the who we are dealing with. This isn’t the first “pay farmers not to farm” scheme launched in the last year – both the UK and US have put such schemes in place – but a government paying to reduce it’s own meat production? That is a first but it was always going to be the next step.

Like the EU's 'set - aside' of the 1980s and 90s and the more recent 'rewilding' policy which repectively paide farmers not to produce food from good quality land and paid farmers to let prime agrigultural land return to nature, this latest move is completly in line with the globalist strategy for transferring wealth from the propsperous populations of developed nations to poor countries.

That it is ostensibly being done to 'protect the environment' or 'save the planet' or whatever bullshit cliche is in fashion this week makes it a big warning sign for the future. Denmark, Belgium and Germany are already considering similar policies.

Governments and business elites in the Western world seem to be enthusiastically embracing policies cooked up in insanity factories like Oxford (England),  Harvard (USA), Heidelberg (Germany) The Sorbonne (France), Ulm (Netherlands) and other leading Universities around the world.

Such idiocy as paying farmers to reduce the amount of food they produce…while (notionally) threatened with war…in the midst of a recession…facing record inflation as the cost of living spirals, and with food shortages already having led to food rationing.

Does that really make any sense?

That’s almost as crazy as refusing new oil and gas leases while the cost of domestic, industrial and transport fuel and power hit hitting new, record levels every day. Such insanity could only make sense to the kind of people who have spent their adult lives cocooned in universities studying stuff that the real world does not give a flying fuck about.

Indeed, in a world beset by a shortage of fertiliser due to sanctions against Russia and Belarus, one would have to be completely mad to complain about a manure surplus, let alone try to reduce it.

We’re well past the point where any of this could be considered accidental, the elites, those billionaire psychopaths and less rich but equally dangerous wannabees are doing this deliberately. It is part of an agenda that has been in velelopment for over a hundred years.

To put it bluntly, if the Davosocracy - that is the government, banks, global corporations and sura - national bureaucracies of the World Economic Forum were trying to impoverish and starve their own citizens, what would they be doing differently?

Dutch Protesters Pour Manure On Government Offices Over Industry-Killing Regulations

Dutch farmers who have been protesting for weeks over the government's radical plan to cut nitrogen emissions by 50% - 95% by 2030 have taken things to the next level - pouring manure on government offices in response to the plan which would cause widespread chaos - including the death of 1/3 of Dutch farms.

Pissed off protesters became aggressive with police last week, with angry farmers demanding that the Hague backtrack on their 'green' agenda.

Bloomberg also reported last week that several farmers showed up to parliament with cows in tow to protest the policy - with some threatening to slaughter them on the spot.

"If the nitrogen measures are adopted, one of these two ladies [cows] will not go home but will receive a one-way ticket to the slaughterhouse," said farmer Koos Cromwijk in a statement to Dutch news agency ANP outside parliament (via The Counter Signal).

Last week Dutch farmers also blocked the border between Holland and Germany.

Russia Now Demands Rubles For Grain As World's Largest Wheat Exporter

After threatening to do so for a couple months now, Russia has pulled the trigger on expanding the list of commodities for which it demands payment in rubles to now include grain exports, effective Friday per a government legal website.

So now grain, sunflower oil and extracted meal are the next to follow the March decision to charge clients from "unfriendly" countries - including major customers in Europe - in rubles for natural gas instead of the normative dollars and euros.

On top of this move, recently Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev announced that Russia's agricultural products will go to "friendly countries" only, and according to "who needs it most" - a hugely significant statement sure to continue sowing uncertainty and chaos for the global food supply.

Via Farmdocdaily: Russia and Ukraine account for 14% of global wheat production and rank 1^stand 5^threspectively. Both countries are prominent exporters, providing nearly 30% of global wheat exports.  The EU, U.S., and Canada are also major producers and exporters of wheat.  China and India are major wheat producers, but are net importers and provide relatively small shares of global wheat exports.  Other countries with fairly large wheat export shares include Australia (8.4%), Argentina (6.6%), Kazakhstan (4.1%), and Turkey (3.4%).

Russian state media detailed further of the new decree published to a government law portal, "It also provides for a one-year extension of duties to be paid in the national currency in respect of exported sunflower oil and sunflower meal until August 31, 2023."

And further, "As part of the new payment mechanism, the base price for calculating the export duty on wheat will be 15,000 rubles (over $267) per ton."

While Russia has blamed Western sanctions aiming to punish and isolate the Russian economy for blowing back on the global food supply, and especially the Middle East and African countries already heavily reliant on Ukraine and Russia grain exports, G7 countries days ago at their summit in Germany blasted Moscow in a statement for what it called "a geopolitically motivated attack on global food security."

Claims That Ukraine's Retaking Of Snake Island Is A Major Blow For Putin Are Just Propaganda

  

Mainstream media reports echoing the narrative that with this tiny, undefensible rock in Ukrainian hands, the threat to Moscow’s Black Sea fleet will go up, and the risk of an amphibious assault on Odesa will go down, and that Ukraine's victory on Snake Island could be critical to reopening shipping lanes to grain trapped on the docks of Odessa are just more wishful thinking from the globalist community which still believes western sanctions are crushing Russia and Putin's regime will soon collapse leaving the western powers free to seize control of Russia's vast reserves of natrural gas, oil, nitrates (fertilizer,) and agricultural produce.

It is unlikely this hollow victory will spell the end of Vladimir Putin's ambitions to invade southern Ukraine and establish a land corridor from the current Ukraine / Russia border to The Crimean Peninsula and the port of Odessa.

Russia says its withdrawal from Snake Island was because The Kremlin has lost interest in the island which because of the island's vulnerability to missile and long range artillery attack render it strategically insignificant, but this move will make any amphibious assault on Odessa much harder.

Russian ownership of Snake Island made any attempt to export grain from Odesa almost impossible. However claims that Ukrainian occupation of Snake Island - which it will no doubt quickly populate with air and sea defences - has the potential to ease the global shortage of grain are somwhat hyperbolic.

This conflict has become a war of attrition. There are many factors which impact a war of attrition but t two types of military hardware can have a crucial impact. First is long range artillery. And second is the UAVs which really are what make the artillery effective. Because they tell the artillery where to aim.

According to unbiased information Russians are winning the UAV war with the Orlan-10 Unmanned reconnaiance vehicle. The Orlan-10 is very simple machine. A YouTube video shows someone analyzing the technology by taking one apart. And they were laughing at it because parts of it were held together by duct tape and the camera was a just an ordinary Canon camera that anyone could buy. We can laugh at these low - tech solutions but they mean these bits of kit are cheap, and the Russians have thousands of them as a consequence which in turn means the Russians can see everything along the battlefront. That is the half the issue of what is actually killing Ukrainian soldiers.

The drones that the Ukrainians are using are much more expensive and there are not that many of them. The Orlan-10 is basically a hobbyist level of technology. But it works! It's all that is necessary right now.

It should be obvious that wars are expensive and that  with a shaky economy at the best of times the Ukrainian government is desperate to find money which is why their front man Zelenskyyyyyyy the Clown is going round the world holding out the begging bowl. But in asking for more, and more advanced weapons they are shooting themselves in the foot for short-term money.

For example, let's take the farmers on whose grain and oil seed crops the Ukrainian economy is heavily dependent. The economic case for grain production in the Ukraine depended on the ability of brokers to export the grain through the Black Sea by ship. Without that there is no economic case for wholesale grain merchants to conclude futures contracts with producers, thus the market for grain is reduced by something like 75%.  An alternate pathway that might have released exports to the wider world was to ship the grain by rail via EU nations.

Well the Ukrainian government has just increased the cost of shipping by rail by maybe 65%, and that , on top of certain technical obstacles that completely eliminates the incentive to plant a crop. The farmer goes from a situation where if they were optimistic they might visualize making some money and they can justify planting a crop on that basis to a situation where they are definitely going to lose money if they plant a crop.

So that may mean that no crop was planted this year and that is a disaster not only for Ukraine next year but also for that part of the world, particularly north and east Africa, that depends upon food exported from the Ukraine.  And that means they have to switch the grain containers from one national rail system to  another at the border. There have been efforts to lower the cost of doing that, which was mainly all the bureaucratic barriers at the border, since the beginning of the war.

Unfortunately the Ukranian railway gauge is not the same as their friendly neighbours so container wagons cannot be transferred seamlessly. 

That means carriers have to switch the grain containers from one train to the other at the border. There have been efforts to lower the cost of doing that, which was mainly all the bureaucratic barriers at the border, since the beginning of the war. It used to take weeks and sometimes a month before grain container was switched to the other gauge, a process that because of EU bureaucracy can take weeks. Ukrainian exporters are reportedly trying to reduce that to days but the European Union being the authoritarian, bureaucratic nightmare it is, things are not likely to change any time soon.

 All this adds up to a picture that exposes the narrative of 'Brave Little Ukraine standing up to the bully Putin,' as pure propaganda. The conflict in Ukraine is bloody and brutal and despite reports that Russia is losing squillions of fighting men every day while the Azov brigade has only lost a handful of foreign mercenaries and a blind old dog is bollocks. There are significant casualties on both sides but figures quoted by either should be taken with a pinch of salt.

What should really concern us is that NATO and EU member states and the USA are continuing to supply advanced weapons to Ukraine, enabling the neo - Nazi nutters in Kiev to prolong and escalate the war, while Ukrainian civilians are bearing the brunt of the suffering and deprivation that always goes with war.

Faced with rocketing power prices and an angry proletariat, the political classes have amped up their deceptive rhetoric, with wild and fantastic claims that the only way to rein in runaway power costs is to add even more chaotically unreliable and heavily subsidised wind and solar power. When President Biden talks, there may or may not be any connection between what he says and the real world. Yes, you need to give every politician some leeway, since most of what any politician says will fall in the general realm of political exaggeration or hyperbole. But even within the disreputable category of politicians, Biden can take the lack of connection with reality to a whole new level.

You may have your own favorite among Biden’s preposterous statements. For me, the very most preposterous is one that he has been making repeatedly for the past several months, namely that his energy plans, including expansion of wind and solar electricity generation together with fossil fuel suppression, will save American families the very specific amount of $500 per year each. European Union Is Again Close To A Meltdown As Eurozone Economy Collapses

The European Union was in big trouble long before Britain voted to leave in 2016 (and finally left in 2021), the financial strain of a basketload of economic basket case nations relying on Germany's industrial powerhouse economy to support them was starting to fray the threads of unity that held the then 28 member - state together which the loonytoons green energy poicies and politically correct approach to immigration and other social issues imposed by the technocrats in Brussels were dividing nations internally as well as against each other. But somehow the Brussels elite and their loyal supporters in member state governments managed by a mixture of bullying and manipulation to hold thins together.

But they cannot continue business as usual for much longer it seems. The Russia -Ukraine conflict is taking a toll on the Euro-zone and it could result in finally pushing the Union into the abyss. Every problem emanating from Russia's invasion of Ukraine is amplified for the region which was already struggling economically and politically. Soaring energy prices and out-of-control cost of living increases combined with stagnate growth and a growing trade imbalance with China and India you have the recipe for disaster. And then there is the inevitable runaway inflation that is the inevitable result of the insane money - printing exercise formally known as the COVID pandemic response.

A report publishd by Reuters this month shows the Euro-zone year - on - year inflation rate surged to yet another record high in May to to 8.1% in May from 7.4% in April. Energy costs due to the sanctions imposed on Russia in retaliation for the incursion into Ukraine are no longer the only factor pushing up the figure. Excluding food and energy prices, inflation rose to 4.4% year-on-year from 3.9%. This pressures the European Central Bank to bump up interest rates further. Unfortunately with Germany and several other EU nations being forced to ration domestic fuel, while transport costs have led to problems with food distribution and empty shop shelves, such a move ought to be unthinkable. Europe's economic war with Russia has highlighted just how weak Europe is.

Should Ukraine conflict drag on, as it may with EU and NATO member states supplying the suicidal nutcases in Kiev with high tech military hardware thus enabling them to prolong the war, Russia could completely cut off gas to Europe. Currently it appears Russia intends to keep Europe from restocking its storage facilities, which will cause widespread hardship substantially increase Russia’s leverage in the winter months. In the past three months Russia has cut off gas supply to several European countries that refused to pay for gas in rubles and has also substantially reduced the flow through the Nord Stream. This has cut off supplies to France and reduced flows to Germany by some 60 percent.

With inflation at 4 times the ECB's 2% target, policymakers face the toxic mix of raising rates and a shrinking economy. Trapped between galloping inflation, and political instability due to economic chaos and hoping to tame inflation, ECB President Christine Lagarde is moving to raise rates. Some policymakers and economists doubt small moves will be enough, especially since underlying inflation is showing no signs of abating.

Due to supply chain problems in the wake of the pandemic, then as a result of Russia's war in Ukraine, prices have been soaring across Europe. This suggests the years of of ultra-low inflation are at an end. What many economists tried to blow off as a transitory blip prices has now become embedded in the economy. The fear is that once high energy prices filter through into the general economy, inflation will get entrenched and eventually perpetuate a price-wage spiral.

Data from the European Union's statistics agency, Eurostat shows the euro zone's trading account swung to a record deficit in January from a surplus a year earlier as the cost of imported energy increased. The euro-zone's trade deficit in goods, the difference between exports and imports, was 27.2 billion euros ($30.17 billion) in January, compared with a EUR10.7 billion surplus the same month a year earlier.

Euro-zone governments are already facing all these problems, the last thing they need is another refugee crisis on a par with the influx of illegal migrants in 2015. This time the invasion is caused by food insecurity across Africa the Middle East and South East Asia and the threat of an energy-scarce winter as 2022 comes to a close. The EU abandoned all structural reforms in 2014 when the ECB started its quantitative easing program (QE) and expanded the balance sheet to record levels. Considering the above, it is difficult to remain optimistic that The European Union is on the right track. Member nations are aware of this and are becoming more inclined to ignore Brussels imposed policies and go their own way.
