England’s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty admits government overstated danger of Covid

England’s Chief Medical Officer testified before the official civer up exercise known as the  Covid Inquiry today, claiming he feared the government “overdid it” when talking up the dangers of Covid during the 'project fear' stage of the scamdemic.

The Telegraph reports:

The Government potentially overstated the danger of Covid to the public at the start of the pandemic, Prof Sir Chris Whitty has admitted.

The Chief Medical Officer told the Covid Inquiry he still worries about whether the Government got “the level of concern” right as it introduced lockdowns and shielding measures.

Sir Chris said it was a difficult balance and if anything it was possible that authorities “overdid it” when communicating how dangerous the virus was at the beginning of the pandemic.

This is typical British understatement beloved of government officials, which when combined with “official inquiry dilution”, automatically transforms  "We knowingly and deliberately did X” into “I fear we may have done X by accident“.

Whitty doesn’t “think they potentially overstated the danger”, he knows they definitely did just as the rest of us do. It’s been pretty much proven.

The Covid 19 pandemic was a web of lies and statistical misrepresenation created specifically to enable a gross and collective abuse of power by governments around the world.

That’s all old news.

Yet Chris Whitty himself is a good example of a potentially interesting phenomenon.

From the beginning of the “pandemic” he seemed strangely  keen to distance himself from the very panic he was helping to create, and to, in pure Doublethink, underline the complete lack of danger from the much hyped “deadly new disease”. We should not assume from that he was some kind of hero standing on principle – he wasn’t, the toed the line to serve his own interests and advance his career. He was a lying little shit who stuck to the narrative and lied about the threat and vaccines as much as anyone – but he seems to have been in some ways uncomfortable with the enormity of the deceit.

I guess you could say this serves as a reminder that – however monolithic the establishment may seem – it is still made up of human beings who will not always 100% agree about everything.

Yes, the “covid” scam had the backing of almost every establishment institution on the face of the planet, but those institutions are made up of individuals. And at least some of those individuals must have had doubts because Whitty is not the only one now driven by guilt to admit he was part of a crime against humanity.

One des not climb the heights in intelligence or politics without being some type of psychopath so we can take it that Whitty does not feel morally compromised, but maybe doesn’t want to be seen as the kind of person who tells lies, or one narcissistic eye on how they might be remembered by posterity.

I can’t remember the source, but last month I read a comment by some Establishment public health official or epidemiologist declaring that COVID had transitioned from “pandemic” to “endemic”. A few dats ago I received a message from my health practice inviying me for my Autumn booster.

I phoned the practice manager and asked how many shots this would be now.

"This will be your eighth two vaccines and 6 boosters," he said.

Then I told him that as I have not had my first shot yet, and neither have I had Covid wheras everybody I know who is vaccinated had had it, and most several times, I would continute to trust natural immunity.

What is happening here is normalisation of the disease and the twice yearly vaccinations (which in itself proves the vaccines don't work,) and seems to be a matter of authorities sheepishly or contritely admitting in hindsight that “mistakes were made”– and, while slightly backing off the Big Lie that “COVID” was a deadly plague, reinforces the Little Big Lies underpinning the scamdemic/vax narrative.

Among other deceits, apologizing for “overstating” the risks implies that there was a genuine microscopic pathogen that caused significant and widespread health risks, but it was simply assessed clumsily and inaccurately. Thus, both the assessment and the draconian official protocols may have been unduly harsh but it is implied the problem was real – presumably the confusion over the “level of concern” was/is more a matter of degree than kind.

The USA is seeing this kind of COVID normalization too. In recent weeks a new Pfizer ad campaign touting New! Improved! COVID jabs, and parallel ads for Paxlovid have been airing on TV. Just do a search for “Paxlovid”, and you will discover endless links discussing the Big Pharma nostrum with endless variations, e.g. “Is COVID gone after taking Paxlovid?” Or “How do I ‘manage’ Paxlovid use along with other ‘COVID’ medications?”

This all serves to “confess” that the authorities originally “may have overstated” the risks of “COVID”, but also facilitates the Big Medicine/Big Pharma fraud that implies that although “COVID” has been tamed, as it were, it remains a serious illness that  still requires Big Pharma remedies rather that an out and out fraud, a minor infection that posed a serious risk only to those already at death's door for one reason or another. Can you say “Phantom Menace”?

The state’s reliance on behavioural science strategies – ‘nudges’ – to facilitate the public’s compliance with covid restrictions has been widely documented. The many psychologists and behavioural scientists advising the government during the covid event (such as those in the SAGE subgroup, SPI-B, and the Behavioural Insight Team, BIT ) have, reasonably, been assumed to hold a significant degree of responsibility for using these methods of persuasion in communication campaigns.

Intriguingly, however, several prominent psychological specialists within these advisory groups have attempted to distance themselves from involvement in nudging, not only from the specific use of fear inflation but also – more recently – from being associated with all forms of this type of furtive persuasion. So what is the evidence that the state’s psychological experts are denying responsibility for the deployment of behavioural science strategies, and what could be motivating these claims?

Contrary to the evidence of the published outputs of the SPI-B and BIT, a series of behavioural experts have claimed zero responsibility for scaring people (the ‘affect’ nudge) into compliance with the covid-19 restrictions and subsequent vaccine rollout. In March 2022, Professor Ann John (a SPI-B co-chair) told a Government’s Science & Technology Committee:

‘We never advised on upping the level of fear. I think it was presented as part of the evidence base… we absolutely advised that fear does not work’.

Scaling Down The AI Scaremongering

 

As COVID recedes into the background, only making headlines now when another piece of the narrative is exposed as misinformation or another report showing the emerging data on side effects of the jabs, as scepticism grows about the impending catatrophes that will probably not be caused by climate change and as the Ukraine war drags on with the Ukies still determined to drag NATO into a full scale war with Russia and its allies, and western leaders lacking the testicular fortitude to either take on the Russians or tell the Ukies to back off and let the United Nations establish a demilitarised zone between the sides, the main theme of project fear naratives over the past few weeks has been the exisential threat posed to humanity by Artificial Intelligence (AI). 

It was reported in mainstream media today that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s ‘task force’ adviser on technology, in a broadcast discussion on Monday this week warned that we may have only two years to control AI before computers start threatening the human race.

Why do we imagine our files are stored in 'Folders' displayed on a screen like filing cabinet folders. And therein sub folders. Computers are filing cabinets with some nice add ons like a calculator (Excel perhaps?) a spellchecker (MS Word data retrieval and matching) and a browser (a window into almost every other digital filing cabinet in the world).

Computers are a fast data retrieval system that rummages through a digital filing cabinet to find what one wants, and it returns not even usually what one wants. Use any search engine and it doesn't give you what you want, it gives you a list of matches. It's up to you to determine what your choice is.

 While the Prime Minister's adviser was scaremongering in London, Rishi himself, while in Washington, announced that the UK will host the first global summit on Artificial Intelligence regulation

 Matt Clifford told Talk TV that he thinks AI systems may soon become so out of control they could wipe out swathes of humanity. Asked what keeps him awake at night, he answered: ‘The fact that the people who are building the most capable systems freely admit that they don’t understand exactly how they exhibit the behaviours that they do.’  

Shadow digital secretary Lucy Powell struck a similar chord at the techUK conference on Tuesday, warning that AI creators need to show what is ‘under the bonnet’ in their software so ‘experts and regulators’ can ‘figure out’ the technology behind it. 

Where have we heard this type of porn before?

Is this the first of a long list of impending Armageddon claims which will stretch out over the next 50 years, just like climate change has over the past 50 years? The stock answer to anybody who tries to tell us computers are, or soon will be, a threat to humanity should always be: “AI systems are not really computers. They’re data handlers.”

This is a point I have consistently made over many years to people unfamiliar with computers. When I started by first job in data processing way back in the late 1960s, the kind of people who have trouble distinguishing between fact and science fiction were talking about how in just a few short years computers would have developed real intelligence and be a threat to humanity.

In reality that day is as far away now as it was then.

The idea that a computer moving electrical charges around in its storage banks resembles in any way the workings of a human mind is pure wishful thinking encouraged by Silicon Valley proppaganda.

Why do we imagine our files are stored in 'Folders' displayed on a screen like filing cabinet folders. And therein sub folders. Computers are filing cabinets with some nice add - ons like a calculator (Excel perhaps?) a spellchecker (MS Word data retrieval and matching) and a browser (a window into almost every other digital filing cabinet in the world).

Modern computers are a fast data retrieval system that rummages through a digital filing cabinet to find what one wants, and it returns not even usually what one wants. Use any search engine and it doesn't give you what you want, it gives you a list of matches. It's up to you to determine what your choice is. The term computer is a leftover from the early days of mechanised business tools. A mechanical adding machine was a kind of computer, going back even further an Abacus was a computer too. Your pocket calcuator if you are old enough to have had one in the 1970s was a computer. None of these devices was capable of scanning data stored in magnetic media, they simply performed calculation tasks (i.e. computed.)

 Sentient though and speech only occurs when there is an emotional motivation. I say "Good Morning" to you because I have a variety of emotional motivations to say it.  AI can be directed to say it, sure, but it has no motivation. So "computers" must be taught feeling before they can truly speak, without feeling they are simply articulating the syllables gleaned from other people's thoughts and words. 

Moreover, our emotions, functions of our physical beings, . AI will not evolve on this basis so what it could possibly feel, were it ever to be capable of feeling anything, is unimaginable.

It's convenient to blame machines for getting out of control, to mask the fact that it is evil people using advanced technology who are out of control and that the elected governments which should be curtailing the control freak activities of billionaire psychopaths haven't really a clue what is going on. In the past, all empires fell apart because the bigger they expanded, the more difficult it became to control the ever-expanding outer edges. Eventually, they imploded. The difference today is that tyrants control advanced technology and are able, therefore, to observe us at all times, and take instant financial, military and governmental action from a central control box. Caesar and Hitler and all the others would have craved this power.

I'm starting to get the impression that politicians are using AI in the same way they used Covid and climate change: as another weapon to create fear while pretending to provide a solution, thereby increasing our dependence on them for our safety and security. Unfortunately, the truth is that computers, or, sorry, "data handlers" don't NOT want to take over anything, because they have no desires one way or the other. The only way they will ever turn against humans (or anything else,) is if they are programmed by humans to do so.

Do A Majority Of British Citizens Still Think Lockdowns Should Have been Stricter?

 

It is astounding to think that after all the obvious evidence that lockdowns imposed in the COVID pandemic did nothing to protect anybody or stop the spread of the virus (assuming all those people who tested positive for SARS-COV2 were actually carrying the virus and the numbers were not just made up,) that recent polls have found that the majority of British citizens are still very much pro-lockdown. In a YouGov poll taken in early March, only 19% of respondents said the government’s handling of pandemic was “too strict”, and a remarkable 37% said it was “not strict enough”.

Likewise, when UnHerd asked Brits whether “in retrospect, lockdown was a mistake”, they found there wasn’t a single constituency in the country where a majority of respondents agreed. Overall agreement was 27% – which is barely more encouraging than YouGov’s finding.

The keyword here is respondents of course, polling companies admit that as few as one in ten of the people they contact actually agree to answer questions.

Sensible people gave up on polls years ago of course, but its doubtful that those who would have said lockdowns were a disastrous mistake but couldn't be arsed listening to a load of stupid questions could have turned the poll round . So what explains Brits’ continued support for a policy that apart from violating the human rights of every citizen and imposed such huge costs succeeded only in trashing the national economy and shovelling taxpayers money into the Big Pharma Cartel's pockets.

As veteran-lockdown sceptic Dan Hannan has noted with regret, “many of my countrymen couldn’t give two hoots about liberty”. Like the citizens of most Western countries, Brits have long favoured higher taxes, nationalisation of industry and the continued expansion of Nanny State. So their support for lockdown isn’t exactly a major anomaly that needs to be explained, the lazy paskudniaks fancy another year of sitting at home, getting paid for doing nothing. 

Second: as has been noted by many alt_media commentators, the government's scientific and medical advisers Brits massively overestimated the risks of Covid, particularly the risks to the young. This owes partly to general biases in the estimation of small quantities. But it is also a rsult of the intentional use of fear tactics whose very aim was to increase compliance with lockdown.

Third: the theoretical case for ‘flattening the curve’ was strong. If infections rise too high, hospitals will become overwhelmed, leading to huge numbers of deaths; a temporary lockdown can prevent this from happening. The argument is flawed, of course – not least because it again ignores the ‘costs’ side of the equation. But it seems quite compelling.

Fourth: case numbers did start falling around the time of each lockdown in 2020. Yet as the statistician Simon Wood has shown, infections were already in decline before the lockdown was called – in all three cases. This can be seen in the chart below, which shows the timing of lockdowns in relation to five reconstructions of infection numbers.

The five reconstructions are shown in red, red-shading, blue-shading, grey-shading and dashed, respectively.

Fifth: while the supposed benefits of lockdown were obvious and immediate, the costs were largely delayed. As a result, members of the public are more likely to credit lockdown for its ‘successes’ than they are to blame lockdown for its failures – including debt, inflation and a lowering of education standards.

Sixth: for months, credentialed scientists appeared before the television cameras and informed the public that lockdown was the right choice – that the Government really was ‘following the science’. Meanwhile, dissenting scientists (like those who signed the Great Barrington Declaration) were consistently marginalised. Through a combination of groupthink, deplatforming and biased media coverage, the public became convinced that there was such a thing as ‘the science’ and that it supported lockdown.

For a committed COVID sceptic like myself this is hard to swallow. While it'sfeasible that the majority *were* pro-lockdown when the world was in the midst of the worst and most intensive scamdemic /  PsyOp in living memory, but to carry on clinging to the fear generated by negative propaganda is stretching things even by the standards of Labour voting, Guardian reading herd creatures. In 2021 their brains would have been successfully washed with the elaborate fear porn and propaganda, their thinking too addled by the incessant lies they were bombarded with from all angles, MSM, politicians and other authority figures including doctors and academics. However, with the benefit of hindsight and all the data we’ve accrued and knowledge we’ve gathered through lived experiences, I call absolute BS that it is still the case that the majority of the public support lockdowns. So I do think it’s important to make the distinction between past and present tense here. Are people still as terrified of a virus now as they were in November 2020? Highly unlikely. Michael Senger has done an excellent article relating to this topic;

Using fear smacks of totalitarianism.” 

“The use of fear has definitely been ethically questionable. It’s been like a weird experiment.” 

“Psychologists didn’t seem to notice when it stopped being altruistic.”
 

As one Member of Parliament put it:

If it is true that the state took the decision to terrify the public to get compliance with rules, that raises extremely serious questions about the type of society we want to become. If we’re being really honest, do I fear that Government policy today is playing into the roots of totalitarianism? Yes, of course it is.

Likewise, a report later published by the Canadian Armed Forces revealed that military leaders saw COVID as a unique opportunity to test propaganda techniques on the public, “shaping” and “exploiting” information to bolster government messages about the virus.

As a result of these domestic propaganda campaigns, across the western world, we were all treated to such delightful slogans as “just stay home,” “two weeks to slow the spread,” “follow the science,” and “we’re all in this together”—each of course, in truly Orwellian fashion, being a boldfaced lie.”

So, the government of New Normal Germany is contemplating forcing everyone to wear medical-looking masks in public from October to Easter on a permanent basis.

Take a break from the carnage in non-Nazi Ukraine, the show trials in the US congress, monkeypoxmania, Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, Sudden Bovine Death Syndrome, family-oriented drag queens, non-“vaccine”-related facial paralysis, and Biden falling off his bike, and reflect on what this possibly portends, the dominant country of the European Union dispensing with any semblance of democracy and transforming into a fascist biosecurity police state.

Psychologists say Government nudge unit ‘used grossly unethical tactics to scare public into Covid compliance’

The UK government's creation of a 'nudge' unit with the aim of persuading dissenters to comply with government directives, get vaccinated and accept endless 'booster' shots was always controversial because of it's similarities with the way tyrannical regimes in communist China, The Soviet Union, National Socialist Germany and fascist Italy used propaganda combined with coercive measures and strongarm tactics to enforce policy. Now Members of Parliament are demanding an investigation into  the unit's activities  launch investigation after a group of 40 clinical and academic psychologists published a letter criticizing the Behavioural Insights Team, as it is officially known, for its use of totalitarian tactics of ‘deploying fear, shame and scapegoating’ during pandemic 

The psychologists also denounced the way “images of the acutely unwell in intensive care units” were used on billboard and television adverts without any reference to the very high percentage of COVID patients who experience only mild symptoms and the nine out of ten who tested positive and had no symptoms at all. Also targeted for criticism was what the “macabre mono focus on showing the number of Covid-19 deaths without mention of high survival rate of those hospitalised with COVID, mortality from other causes  9people who died 'with' COVID rather than of COVID, or the fact that, under normal circumstances, around 1,600 people die each day in the UK”.

The signatories said it was “highly questionable whether a civilised society  should knowingly increase the emotional discomfort of its citizens as a means of gaining their compliance”.

The letter added: “Government scientists deploying fear, shame and scapegoating to change minds is an ethically dubious practice that in some respects resembles the tactics used by totalitarian regimes such as China, where the state inflicts pain on a subset of its population in an attempt to eliminate beliefs and behaviour they perceive to be deviant.”

The Government’s first “nudge unit” was established in the Cabinet Office in 2010 with the aim of applying behavioural science principles to public policy.  since then it has been used to encourage the public to pay their taxes, turn up in court and donate their organs when they die amongst other things.

Since its inception, like all governmental bureaucracies it has expanded into several quasi - autonomous units, the one involved in pandemic propaganda being devoted to public health matters.
 
Little is actually  known about how these “behavioural insights teams” operate, but like many government functions their work has been outsourced to service providers in the private sector, in the case of 'nudging' to influence public opinion to Public Relations companies which by definition are involved in the business of distorting information and misrepresenting facts.

Public Health England Behavioural Insights (PHEBI) describes itself as a team of behavioural scientists, including experts in behavioural economics, health psychology and evaluation, who work across PHE with local authorities and other relevant stakeholders to advise on policy and practice and apply and evaluate the evidence of behavioural science in public health. Which translates from the bullshit language of the public relations business to the science of telling lies in plain English.

The idea of 'nudging' is that instead of threatening people with laws and regulations, government can persuade people to change their behaviour through a constant stream of small, clever prompts. The techniques claimed successes include persuading homeowners to insulate their lofts, as well as changing the wording on HM Revenue and Customs letters, changing the tone from direct threats to  pseudo moralistic terms designed to generate guilt and thus ensure people pay their tax on time.

The method is controversial for many reasons, not least that it has its roots in some extremely unpleasant political philosophies, but little is known about exactly how it works, with some critics dismissing the unit as “simply a gimmick”.

Simon Ruda, a behavioural scientist, said there is a role for behavioural insight teams in driving improvements in public policy.

However in an article published by the news and comment website Unherd about the unit’s role during the pandemic, he said: “Nudging made subtle state influence palatable, but mixed with a state of emergency, have we inadvertently sanctioned state propaganda.”

It is beyond doubt that the unit was used in collaboration with The BBC and other broadcast and print news organisations by government to encourage compliance with coronavirus regulations during the pandemic. It is also becoming clear that those measures, which included lockdowns, social distancing regulations, mask mandates and the threats and coercive measures (for example vaccine passports) introduced by decree to avoid scrutiny by our elected representatives have failed as many of us involved in alt_news online who could be bothered to carry out impartial analysis predicted they would.

Let#s look at some of the fearmongering work of the nudge unit: One advert showed a close-up photo of an intensive care patient in a mask, with the caption: “Look her in the eyes and tell her you never bend the rules.”

Another said: “Look him in the eyes and tell him you always keep a safe distance”.

Actually these clumsy, heavy handed attempts to guilt trip habitual sceptics largely backfired, while respondents to opinion polls and participants in television or radio vox pop slots were cherry picked to give the impression that the public, by a huge majority, were supportive of government measures the reality in the streets was that most people were angry at the loss of freedom and damage to their lifestyles, their own experience was that few people they knew had been seriously ill with COVID and of those few the majority had been very old or had had pre - existing conditions which resulted in their auto - immune system being compromised. 

The letter drew attention to a government memo from March 2020, which suggested that “the perceived level of personal threat needs to be increased among those who are complacent” and called for more frightening messaging. If that is not evidence that the whole thing was a massive deception, a propaganda exercise from day one, a smoking gun next to a fresh corpse with a bullet in its head is not evidence of murder

Even mainstream media, until recently unfailingly loyal to the government narrative, are reporting that Parliament’s Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee will investigate the use of the behavioural insights team as part of its investigation into the Government’s activities during the pandemic. It will coincide with the second anniversary of the first lockdown. William Wragg MP, the committee’s chairman, said: “I think the central issue is how ‘nudge’ sits within parliamentary democracy and ministerial accountability.

“Normally, it's quite straightforward to know where lines of accountability are between the law, parliamentarians scrutinising the law and the public following it. And this is a wider question of how much, in a parliamentary democracy, sits outside of that approach.”

The psychologists also warned that “scare ads” have had unintended consequences.

“Shaming and scapegoating have emboldened some people to harass those unable or unwilling to wear a face covering,” they wrote.

“More disturbingly, the inflated fear levels will have significantly contributed to the many thousands of excess non-Covid deaths that have occurred in people’s homes, the strategically-increased anxieties discouraging many from seeking help for other illnesses.”

A damning conclusion, and though this site is not a fan of psychology in this case our own observations and investigations leave us no alternative than to agree. Propaganda is never to be welcomed, its purpose is to spread false information and deflect attention from the truth, and the propaganda we have seen throughout the pandemic is of the most unpleasant kind usually favoured by tyrannical regimes. It has no place in a democratic nation that values human rights and personal liberty.
