ero Hedge:
The American embassy in Baghdad has reportedly engaged inbound rocket attacks with its air defense system, the C-RAM which protects aerial threats against the Green Zone.

One of the world’s largest fertilizer producers, Yara (in Norway), slashes production due to skyrocketing natural gas prices
Another European fertilizer manufacturing plant is cutting production due to skyrocketing natural gas prices across the continent.
Yara, based in Norway, is one of the world’s largest fertilizer producers – or at least it was one of the largest fertilizer producers before the ongoing energy crisis destroyed its bottom line.
No longer does it make financial sense to continue producing as much ammonia as before, Yara says, which is raising questions about how Europe is going to grow enough food for survival.

UK Government website says vaccine not safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women
Norman Fenton:TracyK2017 on twitter has alerted a lot of people today to the fact that the UK Government has a website page with this document that was "updated on 16 August 2022" (although as explained below there do not appear to have been significant changes since March 2021). Katy also notes now that people are pointing out that the document has not in fact been recently updated; apparently the wayback machine shows no changes since March 2021. However, this would make things even worse as it means that the Government officials and the NHS have been recommending pregnant women get the vaccine against the official Government document advice.

WEF Proposed Sound Waves For Mind Control In 2018
Great Game India:The WEF is truly one of the most pernicious entities to have ever graced this planet. In 2018 they published an article entitled, Mind control using sound waves? We ask a scientist how it works. Of course, it was scrubbed from their site, but thanks to the Wayback Machine we have the evidence of their technocratic depravity.
Antoine Jerusalem, a professor of engineering science at Oxford University, finds himself in as he researches the potential of ultrasound technology to tackle neurological diseases and disorders. In an interview, conducted as part of the World Economic Forum's annual gathering in the Middle East of scientists, government and business, he tells us more about this growing field of research. Antoine Jerusalem, a professor of engineering science at Oxford University, tells us more about this growing field of research:
"I can see the day coming where a scientist will be able to control what a person sees in their mind’s eye, by sending the right waves to the right place in their brain. My guess is that most objections will be similar to those we hear today about subliminal messages in advertisements, only much more vehement.
This technology is not without its risks of misuse. It could be a revolutionary healthcare technology for the sick, or a perfect controlling tool with which the ruthless control the weak. This time though, the control would be literal." In usual Hegelian dialects fashion, the WEF create the problem, let the mass formation psychosis reaction to the problem play out and then swoop in with the “solution”;

Europe still hasn’t learned from its lockdown debacles
The Spectator:n his fascinating interview in the current issue of The Spectator, Rishi Sunak revealed the black hole at the centre of the British government’s 2020 lockdown policies. The former Chancellor claims that two crucial things were lacking at the time of the lockdowns – political candour and a ‘grown up conversation’ between Boris Johnson’s government and the quarantined population. Two and a half years later, though, there’s been no such conversation, especially in the European countries where the legality of lockdowns has already been questioned.

10 Facts Electric Vehicle Advocates Don't Want You To Know
PJ Media:
There are a host of reasons why the Left is absolutely determined to force Americans out of their privately owned, gasoline-powered cars and trucks and into unreliable public transportation and costly Electric Vehicles (EVs), none of which have to do with “saving the environment.”
The central reason the Left loves EVs is that the process of forcing Americans to convert to electric-powered transportation will destroy forever the incredible freedom and prosperity associated with privately owned gas-powered vehicles. The future will instead be centrally controlled by rich elitists and their corrupt politicians, power-hungry bureaucrats, and ideologically driven “experts.”Continue reading >>>

Farmers in Belgium Attempt to Break Into City Hall Protesting Against EU-Inspired Green Agenda
Breitbart Europe:Farmers in northern Belgium attempted to break into the town hall of Hoogstraten after staging a mass protest in response to the government’s EU-driven agenda to cut nitrogen emissions, as is being attempted in the Netherlands.
The European Union’s Natura 2000 network, which mandates that the 27 member states must protect designated habitats in a “sustainable manner, both ecologically and economically,” and therefore must cut nitrogen emissions — spurring widespread unrest among the Dutch Farmers — has now spread to the heart of the EU in Belgium, with farmers driving their tractors to the centre of Hoogstraten on Monday evening.

Gazprom To Slash NatGas Deliveries To France's Top Utility As Squeeze Worsens

FT via ero Hedge:
On Tuesday, Europe faced a worsening supply crunch after Russian energy giant Gazprom PSJC informed French utility Engie SA that natural gas supplies would immediately be reduced because of contract disagreements, reported Financial Times.
Engie said Gazprom notified it of "a reduction in gas deliveries, starting today, due to a disagreement between the parties on the application of some contracts."
Gazprom's reductions in NatGas over retaliation for sanctions related to its invasion of Ukraine have primarily targeted Germany and eastern Europe but now appear to extend to France. The continent is facing the worst energy crisis in half a century, sending prices of NatGas to record highs on supply shortage concerns ahead of the winter season.

The Fantasy World of Renewable Energy

Learning from history and from our own experience is usually reckoned a sign of wisdom. Strangely, that appears not to be the view of those employed at Carbon Brief. They have published a strikingly foolish prediction that renewable generation such as offshore wind will be vastly cheaper than gas generation in the late 2020s. That is a long way off. History tells us that price booms in oil and gas markets are invariably followed by price busts.
Carbon Brief’s argument is based on bids submitted by offshore wind farms in the latest round of the U.K. Government’s auction of Contracts for Difference (CfD), which were announced in July 2022. Carbon Brief claims that the average price of £48 per megawatt hour (MWh) in today’s money is “nine times cheaper” than the £446 per MWh current cost of running gas-fired power stations. For context, and so as not to mislead the naïve, including those who enthusiastically tweeted approval of Carbon Brief’s article, it might also have noted that the cost of running gas-fired power stations in April 2020 was less than £25 per MWh. That figure was, of course, inflated by the high cost of buying carbon dioxide permits.Continue reading >>>[ Energy: Clean Green Dreams ]

Iran Bombing: Trump Says US Not Seeking To Start A War

The assassination of a popular Iranian general in Baghdad could turn out to be the game-changer in the midle east after years of increasing tensions between between the deep state in Washington and the Ayatollahs in Tehran. Until now, mainly due to the looming presence of Iran's allies Russia and China hostilities have been confined to the proxy war, occasional terrorist outrages such as the attacks on shipping in the gulf and a lot of over the top rhetoric.

The Trump administration has however escalated the situation with with Iran to what is perhaps a point of no return on Friday by ordering a targeted air strike on a convoy leaving Baghdad airport, ostensibly a response to what The White House claims was an organised attack on the US embassy in Iraq by armed militiamen, but looked far more like a planned assassination of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force.

(No linked sources here sorry, the information is all from TV news bulletins or internet news feeds not available to non subscribed users - editor)

The Iranian general and some say 2nd most powerful man in the country was blown up along with 11 other people, including a senior commander of an Iraqi militia backed by Tehran, when their motorcade was hit by US guided missiles.

All day world media have speculated about how and when the inevitable Iranian revenge attack would happen. The government in Tehran must respond to the assassination of Soleimani or lose face internationally. Unconfirmed reports tell us Iranian missiles have hit Ain Al-Assad the largest US military base in Iraq. IRGC Telegram news channel reports 'massive explosions' at the installation. Bear in mind this is an Iranian domestic news source so information from it should be treated with scepticism until conformed by more reliable agencies.

President Trump on Friday said that America does not seek "regime change" in Iran, and that the United States "took action last night to stop a war" by killing Iran's #2 commander, Qasem Soleimani, on Thursday.

A similar report came from reporter Sina Toossi who notes that an Iraqi Twitter has posted a picture of the alleged missile attack on al-Ain base, and notes that Iranian outlet Mehr has also reported massive explosions at the Ain al-Assad military base in Iraq’s Anbar province, the largest US military base in the country.

Speaking from Mar-a-Lago one day after the strike, President Trump said that Soleimani "made the death of innocent people his sick passion."

"We caught him in the act and terminated him," said Trump, adding that The US is "ready and prepared to take whatever action is necessary."

"We took action last night to stop a war."

The Media Says the US Just Liberated Mosul: Here’s What Really Happened

from Antimedia

by

The mainstream media appears to be celebrating ISIS’ recent defeat in Mosul, albeit with some reservations. The media is largely using the word “liberation,” which indicates the people of Mosul have been freed from a monstrous force by a friendly, benevolent one.

In reality, the “liberation” of Mosul paints a dark, horrifying picture of America’s foreign policy when one realizes how ISIS took hold of Mosul in the first place. As Anti-Media in summarized in September of last year, the U.S. allowed ISIS to gain control of Mosul quite deliberately:
We're revolutionizing the news industry, but we need your help! Click here to get started.
“In June 2014, ISIS crossed the Syrian border into Iraq, effortlessly taking the strategic oil-rich cities of Mosul and Baiji and almost making it as far as Baghdad. Amid the terror group’s frightening victory, they uploaded images and footage of drive-by-shootings, large-scale death marches, and mass graves (following the mass executions of Iraqi soldiers).

“ISIS militants claimed massive quantities of American military equipment, including entire truckloads of humvees, helicopters, tanks, and artillery as their own. This was no secret to Washington, or even the world, as the militants photographed and recorded themselves and publicly flaunted their activity on social media.”

Was there a good reason the American military sat on its hands despite knowing full well that this was going on? As Anti-Media explained further:

“What did the U.S. do in response? Nothing. In spite of all the American bases in Iraq and the government’s ability to perform all manner of illicit activity — including assassinating Muammar Gaddafi in Libya using a drone that was flown out of Sicily by a pilot who operated the vehicle from a naval base in Nevada‚ the U.S. couldn’t do anything to stop ISIS rapid advancements. Was there a problem preventing the U.S. military from conducting air strikes? Clearly not, as the U.S. had been launching drone strikes in Pakistan at around the same time ISIS advanced.”

The U.S. allowed ISIS to gain this significant portion of territory before moving into Iraq with an air war that was designed to pave the way for a segued operation into Syrian territory. The U.S. couldn’t justify an intervention into Syria without going into Iraq first, and this was quite clearly the underlying intention of this operation the whole time, as evidenced by the U.S.’ obsession with the Syrian conflict throughout both the Obama and Trump administrations.

Since the U.S. moved back into Iraq in 2014, the U.S. has dropped 84,000 bombs in Iraq and Syria up until the end of May 2017. As Counterpunch explains, this is nearly three times the number of bombs and missiles dropped on Iraq during  George W. Bush’s “Shock and Awe” campaign in 2003.

Monitoring group Airwars’ currently estimates that the minimum number of civilians killed by the U.S.-led coalition’s campaign in Iraq and Syria has reached roughly 4,354 since the operation began in 2014. The number is likely higher, but we will never know the exact total because up until a month ago, the U.S. only had two personnel investigating casualties in Iraq and Syria full time.

Under President Trump, the number of bombs being dropped increased rapidly after Trump gave complete control to the military generals on the ground to call in airstrikes with little oversight. One such air raid in Mosul saw close to 300 civilians die, and the fact that the strike had been called in by Iraqi forces on the ground demonstrates the immense amount of scope that Trump has delegated to call in airstrikes with little regard to international law and the principle of proportionality.

The battle for Mosul also drew in Iran-backed Shia militias, who have been known to terrorize Iraq’s Sunni population (including torturing civilians). No one doubts that ISIS is a brutal and abhorrent group, but the people who are supposedly “liberating” the local population — whether it’s the U.S. military, the Iraqi armed forces, or the various militia on the ground — appear to be no better.

Now that these Iran-backed militias have firmly planted themselves in Iraq, the U.S. is left with an ultimate dilemma of how to kick them out and counter Iran’s expanding influence. In all seriousness, the battle for Mosul is only paving the way for further occupation and laying the groundwork for America to pursue its regional ambitions in its never-ending quest to confront Iran.

According to the U.N., more than 742,000 Iraqis have fled the battle in Mosul, with approximately 10,000 new civilians fleeing every day. For a country that hates refugees, the U.S. certainly plays a significant role in creating an endless supply of them.

And for those civilians still trapped in the city, their lives will never be the same. As Airwars explains:
“According to city officials, as much as 80 per cent of West Mosul has been completely destroyed. Civilians still emerging from the battlefield are often bloodied and starving – traumatised by Iraqi and Coalition bombardments; and by atrocities commited [sic] by ISIS.

“According to reporters accompanying Iraqi forces, the stench of death is everywhere in the Old City – with civil defence officials reporting that as many as 4,000 bodies still remain unrecovered in the rubble. It is likely to be many months before the full death toll is known.”

That is quite the liberation. Even if Mosul really has been “liberated” by the U.S.-backed coalition, no one seems to be talking about the fact that ISIS was only able to conquer strategic areas like Mosul under the safety of the Obama administration’s policies. Leaked audio of former Secretary of State John Kerry when he was a senator confirmed the U.S. was watching ISIS grow, and in turn, the hoped this would bring Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the negotiating table (you can listen to the full audio here).

You can’t target a group as an enemy in one location and view it as a useful proxy army in another. Indeed, ISIS was always a useful proxy force for the anti-Assad coalition, as Kerry admitted.

Essentially, the U.S. allowed ISIS to gain control of large swaths of Iraq and Syria so they could justify interventions in these war-ravaged nations.

As far as the people of Iraq are concerned, there is only one winner here: the military-industrial complex, which secured massive years-long contracts to make, supply, and drop over 84,000 bombs on a territory that never should have been in the hands of ISIS in the first place.

Islamic State Leader Al-Baghdadi Killed Again?

by Arthur Foxake, 16 June 2017

The Russian Defence Department has claimed it has information, which is being verified through various channels, that the leader of Islamic State’s leader Abu-Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed in a Russian airstrike on Raqqa, the last ISIS stronghold in Syria  on May 28.

The strikes targeted a reported meeting of high-ranking Islamic State leaders where al- Baghdadi was due to be present, the Russians say their intelligence services had discovered. The meeting had been called to plan the escape of militants from Raqqa through routes known as through the “southern corridor.”

Sources in Syria report that 30 field commanders and up to 300 militants were killed in the strike, among them the Emir of Raqqa Abu al-Haji al-Masri, Emir Ibrahim al-Naef al-Hajj who controlled the territortweey be the city of Raqqa and the settlement of es-Sohne and the Islamic State’s head of security Suleiman al-Sawah. Any news coming out of Syria should be treated with extreme scepticism of course.
Al-Baghdadi had not identified a successor but two of the aides who have emerged as his likely successors are Iyad al-Obaidi, his defense minister, and Ayad al-Jumaili, in charge of security. The latter had already reportedly been killed in an airstrike in April in al-Qaim region on Iraq’s border with Syria, but ISIS leaders seem to get killed every few weeks only to re - emerge a few weeks later.

The most likely successor of al-Baghdadi would be al-Obaidi. Both al-Jumaili and al-Obaidi had previously served as security officers in Iraq’s Baathist army under Saddam Hussein, and al-Obaidi is known to be the de facto deputy of al-Baghdadi.

The US State Department and the Pentagon have not confirmed either the death of al-Jumaili nor al-Baghdadi. US mainstream media is bending over backwards to prove that al-Baghdadi is still alive and has been hiding in the desert between Raqqa and Mosul with only two of his bodyguards in a pickup truck, but if US mainstream media, a wholly owned subsidiary of the military / industrial complex says he is alive that's probably the strongest evidence that he is dead.

We must not forget it was US mainstream media that gave saturation coverage to the killing by Navy Seals of Osama bin Laden in 2011 when in fact OBL had been dead since 2005 at the latest. This was confirmed by Pakistani Prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007. Speaking to UK TV presenter David Frost, Bhutto states unequivocally that bin Laden died in 2001 as the linked YouTube clip of the interview shows. A few weeks later Bhutto was assassinated.

It is not in Washington’s interests to confirm the deaths of the Islamic State’s top leaders even if it has received credible reports of their demise emerge, because US troops and the allied local militias have mounted offensives against the Islamic State’s strongholds of Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa which have reported caused colossal loss of human lives. It would be grossly embarrassing and destroy what's left of US military credibility to admit that once more Russia has succeeded when American has screwed up.

Conventional munitions and white phosphorous are allegedly being used in large quantities against the residents of both cities, and public opinion is swiftly turning against the ill-conceived intervention in Iraq and the illegitimate US interference in Syria on the pretext of waging a war against terrorism.

According to the Russian and regional media, the US Air Force has been showering Raqqa with white phosphorous, and at the same time, the US has provided a safe exit to jihadists to escape through the “southern corridor” to the oil-rich governorate of Deir al-Zor which has been contested between the Syrian government troops, the Islamic State and the US-backed so-called “moderate” militants (the head amputating, human organ noshing moderates that is.)

Thus it appears that rather than a genuine war to eliminate terrorism, the US-led war in Syria is turning out to be a scramble for territory in order to Balkanize Syria between the Kurds in the north, the Syrian government in the west and the US-backed Sunni Arab militants in the energy-rich east. It does seem however that the Trump administration has abandoned Obama's priority, which was always to oust the Assad regime rather than defeat the terrorists.

If You Want To Know How Reliable Those Syria Gas Attack Reports Are, Read This

We were among the first to point of the flaws in the latest Syria Chemical Weapons Attack narrative after the story broke. While news agencies and mainstream media were reporting that the nerve agent used was Sarin gas we spotted that a news photo of 'White Helmets' first responders were not wearing full hazmat suits as they treated victims, in fact they did not even have proper gas masks and were working in the affected area with skin exposed. sarin is a very potent toxin and kills within minutes when inhaled in low concentrations. It can also kill or immobilise by contact with skin.

But there were the white helmets happily trotting around in overalls, with necks and parts of the face exposed, with no gloves and wearing sandals with no socks. And we are relying on reports from this discredited organisation for news from the gas attack. The pictures could be fake of course. Some say the whole incident was faked and indeed it would not make any kind of sense for Assad to launch such an attack, which allegedly killed 80 people including many women and children. It would of course make perfect sense for the US / NATO coalition to create a diversion from the slaughter happening in Mosul as US and coalition forces work alongside Iraqi troops to liberate Iraq's second largest city from the occupying ISIS forces.

Far greater numbers, including women and children, are dying every day in Mosul but Iraq is nothing to do with Assad, in fact the government of Iraq is, and has been since Saddam Hussein was deposed, an American puppet regime. So attention has to be diverted from that effing fiasco, where the Iraqis, Kurds and Iranians were doing great until the USA interfered and changed the agenda.

So what of that latest gas attack in Syria. Well it bears many similarities with previous chemical weapons incidents in the Syrian civil war for which Assad was initially blamed but which subsequently turned out to have been perpetrated by by US funded, armed and backed Islamic extremists (you know, those 'moderate rebels' Obama liked to blether about, the one who moderately took young Christian and Alawi Muslim girls as sex slaves, beheaded aid workers with kitchen knives and posted video of the act on YouTube and also liked to make videos of themselves cutting the vital organs from people they had killed, and EATING them.

We has to dig deep into The Wayback Machine for the report below:

Hacked Emails Reveal ‘Washington-Approved’ Plan to Stage Chemical Weapons Attack in Syria

Obama administration complicit in war crime?

(sourced from documents published by Wikileaks, originally published by Infowars)

Britam [an Anglo American defence contractor] has admitted that it was hacked but denied that the emails released by the hacker were genuine. Click here for a statement by a Britam spokesman.

Alleged hacked emails from defense contractor Britam reveal a plan “approved by Washington” and funded by Qatar to stage a chemical weapons attack in Syria and blame it on the Assad regime, fulfilling what the Obama administration has made clear is a “red line” that would mandate US military intervention.

The leaked emails, obtained by a hacker in Germany, feature an exchange (click here for screenshot) between Britam Defence’s Business Development Director David Goulding and the company’s founder Philip Doughty;

Phil

We’ve got a new offer. It’s about Syria again. Qataris propose an attractive deal and swear that the idea is approved by Washington.

We’ll have to deliver a CW to Homs, a Soviet origin g-shell from Libya similar to those that Assad should have. They want us to deploy our Ukrainian personnel that should speak Russian and make a video record.

Frankly, I don’t think it’s a good idea but the sums proposed are enormous. Your opinion?

Kind regards
David

The fact that the plan involves delivering a CW (chemical weapon) that is “similar to those Assad should have,” clearly suggests that the idea is to stage a false flag chemical weapons attack that could be blamed on Assad by Gulf states like Qatar and NATO powers.

If the claim that such as plot was “approved by Washington” can be verified, then the Obama administration is complicit in a war crime.

According to Cyber War News, which details the process of how the emails were hacked and includes screenshots of the leaked documents, the hack also uncovered, “extremely personal information,” including copies of passports of Britam employees, some of whom appeared to be mercenaries.

A full list of all the hacked documents can be found here. One software systems administrator who analyzed the ‘header’ details from the email in question concluded, “I have to admit that the email does indeed look genuine….all these facts check out. So with Mythbusters objectivity I have to call this one plausible.”

Online business profiles confirm that both David Goulding and Philip Doughty work for Britam Defence.

Last year, reports began to circulate that that US-backed rebel fighters in Syria had been given gas masks and were willing to stage a chemical weapons attack which would then be blamed on the Assad regime to grease the skids for NATO military intervention.

Soon after in August, President Barack Obama warned that the use or even transportation of chemical weapons by the Assad regime would represent a “red line” that would precipitate military intervention. French President Francois Hollande followed suit, stating that the use of such weapons “Would be a legitimate reason for direct intervention.”

At around the same time, a source told Syrian news channel Addounia that a Saudi company had fitted 1400 ambulance vehicles with anti-gas & anti-chemical filtering systems at a cost of $97,000 dollars each, in preparation for a chemical weapons attack carried out by FSA rebels using mortar rounds. A further 400 vehicles were prepared as troop carriers.

The attack would be blamed on the Syrian Army and exploited as an excuse for a military assault. A March 2012 Brookings Institution report entitled Saving Syria: Assessing Options For Regime Change outlined this very scenario – where a manufactured humanitarian crisis would be cited as justification for an attack.

Yesterday, Israel’s vice premier Silvan Shalom told reporters that if Syrian rebels obtained chemical weapons from stockpiles belonging to the Assad regime, such a development would force Israel to resort to “preventive operations,” in other words – a military strike on Syria.

In December, a shocking video emerged of Syrian rebels testing what appeared to be a form of nerve gas on rabbits, bolstering claims that the rebels had already obtained chemical weapons.

As Tony Cartalucci also highlights, “Mention of acquiring chemical weapons from Libya is particularly troubling. Libya’s arsenal had fallen into the hands of sectarian extremists with NATO assistance in 2011 in the culmination of efforts to overthrow the North African nation . Since then, Libya’s militants led by commanders of Al Qaeda’s Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) have armed sectarian extremists across the Arab World, from as far West as Mali, to as far East as Syria.”

Last month, 29 different US-backed Syrian opposition groups pledged their allegiance to Al Nusra, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group which, as the New York Times reported, “killed numerous American troops in Iraq.

Numerous reports confirm that Al Nusra is the leading front line fighting force in Syria and is commanding other rebel groups. Given their prominent role, allied with the fact that the terror group has been responsible for numerous bloody attacks in Syria, the notion that the Obama administration would approve a plot that could see chemical weapons fall into the hands of Al-Qaeda terrorists could represent a foreign policy scandal even bigger than Benghazi-Gate.

In a related story, the Syrian Electronic Army, a separate hacktivist group, continues to release hacked files and emails from numerous sensitive foreign ministry and military websites belonging to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, including emails sent between these countries.

The Iraqi Invasion opened the Gates of Hell

The root of the conflict in Iraq is the fourteen hundred year-oldold hatred between two Muslim ideologies: Sunni and Shia.
Already, the Sunni force, ISIS has effectively established its own nation state reaching from the north of Syria and Iraq, and aiming for the Persian Gulf. Saddam Hussein’s CIA Interrogator: He Tried to Warn Us, but We Didn’t Listen

by Alice Salles for The Anti Media

After coalition forces captured Saddam Hussein in December 2003, John Nixon, a senior leadership analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from 1998 to 2011, interrogated the former Iraqi dictator. The detailed account of this interrogation is now available to the public in the form of a book, Debriefing the President: The Interrogation of Saddam Hussein.

In the publication, Nixon explains that Hussein was out of touch with the military reality of his own country in his final years. “When I interrogated Saddam,” Nixon told Time magazine, “he told me: ‘You are going to fail. You are going to find that it is not so easy to govern Iraq.’

As Nixon pressed Saddam to explain why, the captured dictator said Americans would soon learn they “are going to fail in Iraq because [Americans] do not know the language, the history, and [they] do not understand the Arab mind.” To the former CIA agent, Saddam’s warning had a point.

In order to “maintain Iraq’s multi-ethnic state,” Nixon told reporters, the presence of a strongman like Saddam in Iraq was necessary. He added:

Saddam’s leadership style and penchant for brutality were among the many faults of his regime, but he could be ruthlessly decisive when he felt his power base was threatened, and it is far from certain that his regime would have been overthrown by a movement of popular discontent.

Reflecting on what he learned, Nixon told Time it was unlikely that “a group like ISIS would have been able to enjoy the kind of success under his repressive regime that they have had under the Shia-led Baghdad government.” He made the case against the U.S. invasion of Iraq, which led to Saddam’s ultimate fall.

According to Nixon, Saddam added that before his ascension to power, “there was only bickering and arguing [in Iraq]. I ended all that and made people agree!‘” Nixon eventually found he had developed “a grudging respect for how [Saddam] was able to maintain the Iraqi nation as a whole for as long as he did,” despite the CIA officer’s lack of sympathy for the fallen dictator.

To Nixon, Saddam Hussein was certainly a brutal dictator, but he wasn’ton a mission to blow up the world, as George W. Bush’s administration had claimed to justify the invasion.”

While many may argue Nixon’s explanation is rather “simplistic,” it undoubtedly reveals that there’s much more to the stories of how the U.S. government justifies invasions and military involvement abroad than meets the eye. In the specific case of Iraq, anti-intervention activists have been on record for years saying the invasion created a power vacuum, making the rise of ISIS more likely to occur.

As countless Iraq war enablers and supporters in the United States continue to defend their actions and claim Saddam had the will and the means to threaten the world, how this war came to be reality is still often ignored. As the former CIA agent Nixon publishes Debriefing the President: The Interrogation of Saddam Hussein, Americans are witnessing a fight between competing narratives as they shape the news the country consumes. These narratives could even impact our foreign and domestic policies. And even now, as we hear yet another account of an insider claiming the U.S. invasion of Iraq was unjustified and damaging, it’s incredible to see much of the media still ignoring what non-interventionists have been saying all along.

Former Russian Leader Gorbachev Warned USA Of Foreign Policy Folly Twenty Years Ago

One of our themes at Boggart abroad is the folly of the USA's foreign policy obsession with meddling in the domestic affairs of sovereign nations. US inteventionism is not new of course, and neither is the parade of people, from bloggers, to maverick journalists in mainstream media to leaders of major military powers eager to warn the USA that meddling in things you don't understand can only end in tears.

Presidents Gorbachev and Reagan brought to an end the era known as Cold War. Recent US administrations seem determined to resume hostilities (Image source: Business Insider)

In the past two decades The United States and its allies, mainly France and The United Kingdom (The FUKUS axis) have launched a military onslaught against any nation or group of nations that seems to stand in the way of US / EU / NATO globalist ambitions which threatens the future of humanity. Ironically, although the politicians and leaders of the corporate / bureaucratic complex (a 21sy century version of the military / industrial complex,) do not do irony, they excuse for these local wars which result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands, the displacement of millions and the destruction of national economies and infrastructures is always that it had to be done for humanitarian reasons. Which is bollocks of course.

Under a global military agenda, the actions undertaken by the Western military alliance (U.S.A - EU - NATO - Israel) in Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Palestine, Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq are coordinated at the highest levels of the military hierarchy. We are not dealing with piecemeal military and intelligence operations. Major military and covert intelligence operations are being undertaken simultaneously in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and the Asia Pacific region.

The current situation is all the more more dangerous than previous interventions as the current conflicts in Syria - Iraq and The Ukraine are in effect a US-NATO proxy war war on Russia, China and Iran. Although mainstream media reporting of the conflicts is the usual gung - ho cheerleading for war, thanks to alternative media the topic is now part of the US presidential election debate with the warmongering crony capitalist 'liberal' Hillary Clinton promising to escalate the conflict as soon as she takes office while her opponent, the much derided businessman Donald Trump has promesed a shift to a non interventionist foreign policy. Insanely, war with Russia, China and Iran is presented as a political and military option to Western public opinion.

The US-NATO military agenda combines both major theater operations as well as covert actions geared towards destabilizing sovereign states. America’s hegemonic project is to destabilize and destroy countries through acts of war, support of terrorist organizations, regime change and economic warfare.

U.S. and NATO forces have been deployed in Eastern Europe including Poland, Romania and Ukraine. In turn, military manoeuvres are being conducted close to Russia’s borders with The Baltic States which could potentially lead to confrontation with the Russian Federation.

The U.S. and its allies are also threatening China under President Obama’s "Pivot to Asia".

As the USA's arrogant leaders stagger from foreign policy disaster to foreign policy disaster, their recent mistakes including Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela and in The South China Sea, failing to learn from past mistakes, Alice Salles at AntiMedia reminds us for how long Washington has been operating a totally dysfunctional foreign policy:

Former Soviet Leader Gorbachev Has A Message the World Needs to Hear

In August of 1991, members of the Soviet Union’s government — who were also hard-line members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) — attempted to take control of the country. What many call a coup attempt failed in just two days.

This month marks the 25th anniversary of the failed effort. During a conversation with Interfax, former Soviet Union president Mikhail Gorbachev spoke openly about the situation of the Soviet Union at the time. But he also seized the opportunity to take a stab at what many in America believe to be one of their country’s worst traits: foreign interventionism.

When the collapse of the Soviet Union seemed imminent, Gorbchev told Interfax, “I told the Americans: you are trying to impose your democracy on the people of different countries, spreading it around like coffee in bags, but we must give the people a chance to make their own choice.”

The “one-legged solutions” imposed by American governments against other nations, Gorbachev added, are inevitable and beyond the president’s power. “Even President Obama,” the former Soviet president said, “democratically elected and enjoying in this regard a significant authority in the country, could not change this course.”
His discontent seems to be rooted in how America reacted to the collapse of the Soviet Union, noting[t]hey did not want the Soviet Union to become a powerful democratic state.”

According to Gorbachev, reforms and changes were already underway, and decentralization of the Soviet Union was only a matter of time. At the time, U.S. officials feared their country’s “policy of unilateral measures … [or] the policy of US domination in global affairs” would not work, Gorbachev added, prompting U.S. officials to push for a total collapse as opposed to letting the country take its own course.

He continued:
And then, when they made a bid for Boris Yeltsin, their goal was the same – to prevent the emergence of Russia as a powerful democratic state. Remember, when the [Soviet] Union collapsed, what was the West’s reaction to this tragic event? They said, ‘this is a gift from God.’ And when Russia was on its back, the US president openly applauded the Russian leadership of the time.”

During the interview, RT confirms, Gorbachev admitted that the union’s downfall was not mainly due to foreign intervention. Instead, he declared, “the country’s authorities and he himself were late with reforms which were strongly needed.” Said reforms included the replacement of “the centralized government planning that had been a hallmark of the Soviet system with a greater reliance on market forces.”

But Gorbachev defended his position by saying that, once the country was getting ready “to launch [reforms], reshaping the entire system of managing the [Soviet] Union … our opponents also knew that tomorrow would be too late” — meaning members of the Western world, including the United States. The former Soviet leader claimed they knew “there were contradictions, that the old shape of the Union no longer” met the needs of the country, and that the USSR “had to be reformed, decentralized, but not destroyed.”
He also added that, by then, he thought “only a fool would try to break it all.” But once he allowed confidence to grow into arrogance, Gorbachev told reporters, things got out of his control.

Twenty-five years after the failed coup, Gorbachev appears to admit that domestic intervention is just as bad as foreign intervention, providing those who are listening with a great opportunity to learn from his own mistakes as a statesman.

While the Soviet Union had a long history of perpetrating crimes against humanity that are often hard to compare to any other brutal dictatorship in history due to their devastating outcome, it’s also important to consider that many may have learned from this tragic episode in history. As a result, many now have a better grasp of human nature and voluntary exchange.

Hopefully, his words on the dangers of intervention — domestic or abroad — will resound with the Russian people, and maybe even with Americans.
