In War Truth Is Always The First Casualty, And That Has Never Been Truer

Two weeks ago, when the Ukrainian army crossed the border into Russia's Kursk region, most well informed commentstors expected the Russia army to repel the Ukrainianexpeditionary force quickly. That did not happen because Russia did not pull troops back from the Donbas front to deal with the incursion but brought troops forward to establish a new battlefront in Kursk. This took several days and gave the Ukies time to dig in, which may have been exactly what The Kremlin hoped for

Though the size of the force Ukraine had made available for the operation was initially undrrestimated it is now thought to be a numberin the range of 10,000 to 30,000. And it now appears the Ukrainian army attack has been stopped though it is still trying to expand what it holds in the very rural area while Russia surrounds it with artillery and bombards the Ukie positions.

We do not know how much truth there is in any of this of course, but while mainstream media continues to parrot the "Ukraine is winning narrative," sources on X and Telegram and a few blogs such as Moon of Alabama and The Duran tell different stories of Ukraine taking heavy losses as their leaders run round like headless chickens.

Be that as it may - the operation, even at first when it seemed audacious enough to succeed in part at least, made no sense at all either strategically or politically and did not even deliver any useful propaganda.

It gave a temporary moral high to the Ukrainian army and may have given Zelenski and the British sponsors of this operation an opportunity to guilt trip the NATO allies into privinding more support to prolong the war.

Moon of Alabama: The plan in Kiev is not to negotiate but to prolong the war and to convince the west to further finance it. This would have the advantage of moving billions of additional dollar from western sources into the various pockets in Kiev with Zelenski and Yermak cashing in the largest share of it.

But all this comes at an enormous cost to the Ukrainian defense in Donbas where Russian forces are advancing ue to Ukrainian efenders having been withdrawn for the Kursk offensive, where they are no just cannon fodder for Moscow's guns.

So what are we to make of mainstream media reports telling us the UKies are still gaining ground in Kursk while Russian forces are retreating in chaos?

There is a pertinent article on pseudo-reporters from the Russian Foreign Ministry, dated 19th August. It regards the presence of western reporters in the Kursk region:

By these manipulations, he clearly showed no sign of sincere repentance for what he did.”

EU Labels Anyone Calling For Peace A "Kremlin Propagandist", Hungarian Minister Claims

The EU’s Foreign Affairs Council usually calls for peace talks between the opposing parties in remote armed conflicts, but the opposite principle is applied toward the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, said Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó while he was in Slovenia on Tuesday.

“Anyone who advocates an immediate ceasefire and peace talks is immediately condemned and branded a Russian spy, a Nazi, a friend of Putin spreading Kremlin propaganda,” the minister said.

Szijjártó said at a panel discussion at the Bled Strategic Forum that the EU is not in good shape today and has weakened a lot in recent years in the areas of security, the economy and energy security.

Russia Intensifies Bombardment Of Ukraine Infrastructure - Millions Without Electricity, Water

Another massive bombardment by Russian long range missiles knocked out critical infrastructure targets in Kyiv, Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities on Monday, again knocking out water and power supplies to millions of people in what, according to Kremlin sources, was a Ukrainian attack on its Black Sea Fleet over the weekend.

As the war grinds on into its ninth month Russia is intensifying attacks on Ukraine's power plants and other key infrastructure. People throughout most of Ukraine are already experiencing power cuts and water rationing as a result of this strategy. Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces carried out "strikes with long-range high-precision air and sea-based weapons against the military command and energy systems of Ukraine."

"The goals of the strikes were achieved. All designated targets were hit," the ministry said in a statement.

The Ukrainuan government claims its air force shot down 44 of more than 50 cruise missiles that were launched by Russia but this was contradicted by a statement from Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal who said Russian missiles and drones hit 10 and damaged 18 targets across 10 Ukrainian regions, mostly energy facilities. Hundreds of communities in seven Ukrainian regions are now without power, he said in a Facebook post Loud explosions were heard across the Ukrainian capital in the early morning as residents prepared to go to work. The emergency services sent out text message warnings about the threat of a missile attack, and air raid sirens wailed for three hours during.

"The Kremlin is taking revenge for military failures on peaceful people who are left without electricity and heat before the winter," Kyiv region Gov. Oleksii Kuleba said. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 80% of consumers in the city of 3 million people were left without water supplies because of the damage to a power facility. Local authorities were working on restoring the supplies as soon as possible, Klitschko said, telling Kyiv residents in the meantime to "stock up on water from the nearest pump rooms and points of sale."

Attacks won't weaken resistance: Ukraine
Andriy Yermak, the head of the office of President Vobblyvoddymyr Bellendskyyyyyy, vowed that the attacks on civilian facilities would not weaken Ukraine's resistance. "We will persevere, and generations of Russians will pay a high price for their disgrace," Yermak said.

Smoke was seen rising from the left bank of the Dnieper River in Kyiv, either from a missile strike or where it was shot down by Ukrainian forces. A resident of the area said he heard four loud explosions that rocked the area. "At first I thought I heard a jet going by, but then I realized it was a missile," said Serhii, who refused to give his full name. "The explosions were so loud! I consider myself experienced and prepared for attacks like this. But it was way too close and loud. I was frightened, really frightened."

Prime Minister Shmyhal said that in the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, emergency power shutdowns were underway.

Five Nation Plan To Divide Syria Into Two States

In a move that exposes exactly where the push to global conflict is being driven from, Turkish media has exposed a plan by five nations to divide Syria into two separate states. The Turkish-language newspaper Star Daily on Monday carried the shocking report that representatives of the USA, Britain, France, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, in secret meeting on Syria held in Washington decided the future of Syria.

It seems strange that no representative from Russia was invited and The Kremlin will hold the casting vote on any action to depose Assad, but seeing the big picture was never one of the main strengths of senior military or foreign affairs staff.

The Star Daily noted that throughout the meeting representatives of the group of five warmongers planned to split Syria in two, adding that the US representatives pressured for forming an autonomous government in Eastern and Northern Syria.

The six-step plan according to Star includes:

1- Forming a “terror state” in Eastern and Northern Syria (alluding to Kurds).

2- Helping the “terror state” reach the Mediterranean Sea.

3- Getting United Nations involved in forming and recognizing the new nation.

5- The US will find an office for the “terror state” at the UN.

6- Persuading Turkey to accept the new plan and end military operations in Northern Syria.

According to the paper, the regions where the "terror state" will be formed will include the oil-rich areas in Deir Ezzur in Northeastern Syria. It added that Pentagon has accelerated plans to disintegrate Syria after Turkey started its Operation Olive Branch against the Kurds in Northern Syria and is trying to link the regions controlled by the Syrian Kurds to the Mediterranean Sea.

The newspaper also cited an earlier report by a The Daily Star Lebanon paper which wrote that it has gained access to an email from the British embassy in the US which reveals Washington’s 5-paragrapth plan to disintegrate Syria.

The al-Akhbar newspaper wrote that the US officials along with their main NATO and middle eastern allies have decided to implement a plan to split Syria and prolong the civil war in the country by continued deployment on the Eastern banks of the Euphrates.

According to a document in the Daily Star Lebanon leak, Benjamin Norman, the diplomat in charge of the Middle East at the British Embassy in Washington, reports in a confidential diplomatic telegram of the first meeting of the "Small American Group on Syria" (United States, Great Britain, France, Saudi Arabia and Jordan), held in Washington on January 11, 2018.

In this five-page document, he reveals the details of the "Western strategy" in Syria: partition of the country, sabotage of Sochi, framing of Turkey and instructions to the UN Special Representative Staffan de Mistura who leads the negotiations of Geneva. An 8 page paper accompanies this, in anticipation of the second meeting of the "Small Group". It was held in Paris on January 23, mainly devoted to the use of chemical weapons and the "instructions" sent by the “Small American Group" to Staffan de Mistura.

Hugh Cleary (Head of the Near and Middle East Department of the UK Foreign Office ), Jerome Bonnafont (Director ANMO / North Africa and Middle East at the Quai d’Orsay), David Satterfield (US Assistant Secretary of State for the Middle East) and Jordanian Nawaf Tell and Saudi Jamal al-Aqeel attended the January 11 meeting in Washington.

David Satterfield confirmed that President Trump has decided to maintain a large US military presence in Syria, despite the victory over the "Islamic State Organization" (Daesh); the cost of this maintenance being set at $ 4 billion annually, although this is contradicted by subsequent statements made by Trump himself, which suggests the US President is at war with the "deep state" not only in Washington but among all the main NATO military powers who seems to have set their hearts on war with Russia and China.

Trump blasts ‘sleazebag operatives’ for ‘Russian blackmail’ smears.

Now that allegations about the Russian government having information about Donald Trump that could implicate him in sex crimes, financial misconduct and being a rich old white man have been proved to be a last, hopeless bid by the Hillary Clinton friendly US media to discredit the President Elect, stand by for reprisals. Donald Trump is a man who understands the meaning of "Don't get mad get even." When someone like Barack Obama responded to an attempt to knife him in the back, it was like a five year old girl throwing a hissy fit.

Donald Trump is a New Yorker, from the borough of Queens, which is, and was, not the most salubrious of the New York boroughs. He knows the value of a pair of shoes with good solid toe caps. And the kick in the balls that is going to be aimed at the liberal media and the security agencies that facilitated the attempted stitch up will probably be followed by a couple of kicks in the ribs and one in the face.

The US president-elect has accused unnamed ‘sleazebag political operatives’(we know who it is, but it would be unethical to break someone else's story) in both parties for publishing the dossier which alleges he has ties to Russia, while pledging a full report on the alleged ‘Russian hacking’ of the US election in 90 days.

Trump took to Twitter to reiterate his denials of the unsubstantiated allegations published by Buzzfeed.

“Totally made up facts by sleazebag political operatives, both Democrats and Republicans – FAKE NEWS! Russia says nothing exists. Probably released by ‘Intelligence’ even knowing there is no proof, and never will be. My people will have a full report on hacking within 90 days!” Trump said.

Well we should no more take the word of the Russian Government as truth any more than we should believe what the US, UK, French, German or any other governments tell us. We're not anti any of them, but people need to understand all governments have to play the same games.

In a press conference, Trump called Buzzfeed a “failing pile of garbage” for publishing the document, which sparked uproar online and in the media because of the salacious details it contained describing Trump’s allleged sexual adventures in Russia.

Trump also refused to take a question from the CNN, which reported on claims that the 36-page document was complied by a former British spy on behalf of anti-Trump forces, had made its way as a two-page synopsis attached to a classified US intelligence into a report presented to President Barack Obama, and later President-elect Trump. The President Elect has previously called CNN a Fake News site.

The Kremlin said on Friday that what Buzzfeed had published “didn’t merit to be called a report.”

“We have finished the discussion of this fabrication,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained. “This is far from being the first such falsehood published, and it is, moreover, really quite base. One simply shouldn’t pay any attention to it, as it is now appealing to the emotional frenzy that is dominating in America at the moment.”

Politicians from both parties in the USA have accused Trump of collaborating with Russia. Presindent Obama and several members of his administration have accused The Kremlin of waging a massive campaign to undermine the democrats campaign and swing the election in favor of Trump by hacking the Democratic Party’s computers and leaking the stolen emails containing damaging information on hillary clinton and the corrupt and unethical dealings of The Clinton Foundation which she heads to WikiLeaks.

Russia has repeatedly denied the accusations, calling them “nonsense,” while the White House has refused to provide any concrete evidence to support its allegations, claiming it was necessary to keep it secret in order to protect the sources and methods of the intelligence communities.

Hacked Emails Leaked By 'Russians' Reveal That 'Crooked Hillary' Clinton Threatened Sanders’ Wife

According to leaked e-mails held by The Kremlin, people working for Hillary Clinton's election campaign "sent their goons to give Jane Sanders (wife of Crooked Hillary's Democratic Party rival Bernie Sanders) the shakedown," in order to end the Bernie Sanders campaign before the convention. Evidence from one of 10,000 Hillary emails Vladimir Putin has gained possession of.

The Clinton campaign needed Bernie Sanders on board before the emails were leaked as they contained evidence that confirming his allegations that the Democratic Party National Committee was rigging the nomination process to ensure Clinton was their candidate. Had he revealed such evidence before the party convention it would have given his supporters the impetus to force debates on every scandal surrounding "Crooked Hillary" and her serial sex criminal husband "Slick Willy" and possibly generated enough momentum to swing the convention behind the "Lock her up" campaign to have Clinton disqualified.

However after the meeting with the Clinton team Sanders unexpectedly suspended his previously gung-ho campaign, and although he refused to wholeheartedly endorse her, he signalled to his supporters that his run for President was effectively over. This should surprise nobody, when we look at how the Clintons deal with people who pose a threat to them, there is a trail of corpses going all the way back to Arkansas in 1983. It is even strongly rumoured that Hillary escaped prosecution over the criminal breaches of national security relating to her non - secure private e-mail server after Slick Willy had a 'purely coincidental' meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch, which left Lynch in no doubt about what to expect if Hillary faced any charges.

Russia government officials have denied DNC claims that Russian state-sponsored hackers are behind the three recent hacks of the democratic Party campaign computer network, with Julian Assange also stating the DNC claim is a politically motivated "lame conspiracy smear". Knowing that Donald Trump will be a lot harder to intimidate than Bernie Sanders (Trump knows where the bodies are buried ad will not hesitate to use that information), the Democrats are desperate to shift the focus of debate away from the scandal and corruption that surrounds "Crooked Hillary" and her husband.

Despite the FBI asking the Kremlin for copies of any emails they have in their possession, officially the Kremlin maintains it has not released anything to anyone, including Wikileaks.

According to The Kremlin, the trove of leaded mails released by Wikileaks could have come from “a huge number of possible sources“, as "intelligence communities around the whole world have copies of Hillary’s emails. Everybody is talking about them."

Senior staff in the Kremlin have been allowed to see the emails, however Vladimir Putin alone has access to them and keeps them on his personal laptop, under lock and key. President Putin is said to be amused by Democratic Party attempts to portray him as the villain, when their own failings are on display for all to see. “They always need a babayka [bogeyman] to frighten people with. I am the Eastern bogeyman, it seems."

Russia's Surprise Withdrawal From Syria? "If We Don't Go Away, We Can't Come back Again."

Russian warplanes: Leaving Syria but for how long?

Although we Boggart Bloggers like to boast we are usually ahead of the news, and in some cases even manage to report news before it happens (and still get it right) we have to admit we did not see yesterday's announcement, following a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Bashir al Assad, of the withdrawal of all Russian army and airforce combat personnel from Syria took us by surprise.

There is no doubt that the withdrawal is not quite what it seems to be, but more likely a tactical move by the Russians. The Kremlin feels it has done enough to secure the regime of President Assad, the remnants of the Sunni Muslim Free Syrian Army are no longer capable of mounting a challenge and the Syrians, along with Shi'ite militias in Iraq and Kurdish irregulars, backed by Iranian Republic an Guard troops ought to be capable of dealing with ISIS whose forces (terrorists rather than an organised fighting force) are dispersing and heading for other failed states and basket case states in Africa.

Thus Putin's move not only draws the sting out of US propaganda from The Pentagon and The State Department that was aimed at convincing the world (and particularly British voters who are making up their minds how to vote in the EU referendum,) that Russia had ambitions to expand its territories in Europe and Asia and this threatened the security of Britain.

Western media are presenting the withdrawal as a move aimed at forcing Assad to negotiate a transition from autocratic rule to a more democratic system. but even such a move could be nuanced, most things that happen in Russian politics are, as Zero Hedge suggests:

On Monday, Putin surprised the world by announcing a partial withdrawal of the Russian military presence from Syria. Moscow’s warplanes, backed by Hezbollah ground troops, had effectively encircled Aleppo where rebels were preparing to make what amounted to a last stand just prior to the ceasefire that took effect late last month.

"I think that the tasks set to the defense ministry are generally fulfilled,” Putin said. “That is why I order to begin withdrawal of most of our military group from Syria starting from tomorrow," he added.

Indeed. Despite President Obama’s early contention that Russia would end up in a “quagmire” in Syria, The Kremlin instead showed what happens when a mishmash of loosely aligned rebels squares off against a modern air force.

Five months and thousands upon thousands of sorties later, the rebel cause has become virtually hopeless. It’s much easier to broker a ceasefire when the enemy has been, for all intents and purposes, decimated.

Now, all eyes are on peace talks in Geneva where there is “no Plan B,” according to United Nations special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

De Mistura has called a political transition the “mother of all issues,” with the only alternative being a return to war. But Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem has shown little willingness to negotiate for the future of President Assad while the main Syrian opposition umbrella group, the High Negotiations Committee looks determined to demand the installation of some manner of interim government devoid of Assad and his top brass.

"[We don't know] who we are negotiating with and what the issues are," Syria's UN representative, Bashar Jaafari complains. All sides probably feel the same way.

Other sources are suggesting the move is a symbolic gesture to the Syrian opposition pill, because while they are involved in negotiations on Syria's future and their US ally in The White House has stepped back, the crushing damage suffered by the anti - Assad guerillas due to Russian air strikes has rendered the opposition groups the west could support completely ineffective.

Not even the rogue state Turkey can support ISIS now so with forces in disarray and their supply lines destroyed they are no longer an "Islamic State" capable of threatening standing armies.

"Assad is clearly not going away anytime soon even if Russia slightly reduces its operations,” Anton Lavrov, an independent Russian military analyst told Bloomberg, adding that “this is clearly linked to the start of negotiations in Geneva [and] it’s a signal to the opposition and an attempt to influence their agreeability.” That underscores our assessment above: the opposition has now seen what can happen when there's a lack of "agreeability," so now Putin will play good cop to his own original bad cop and see if that works to bring the rebels to the table.

Other reports from Syria suggest the general population (a majority of which always supported Assad knowing the alternative was worse) is finding the resolve to resist the terror tactics of Islamic extremists. This from the BBC:

"On Monday, there were reports of demonstrations against the Nusra Front in territory it holds in Idlib province in north-western Syria," BBC reports. "Photos and videos circulated on social media by an analyst with the Brookings Institution think-tank showed supporters of Western-backed rebels marching in the town of Marat al-Numan [and] there were also reports the protestors had stormed a Nusra Front prison, freeing detainees."

Though we are sure this is not the end of the Syria sage, and ISIS are making gains in Afghanistan, Indonesia, Pakistan and many African nations including Libya and Somalia, in the middle east at least it seems things are moving in the right direction.
