Do Not Expect Much From The Russia - Ukraine - USA Peace Talks. The Nature Of War Has Changed

In spite of delegates from Russia and Ukraine meeting with US officials in Saudi Arabia amid hopes finding a path to peace, as long as Ukraine keeps trying to dictate the terms of ceasefire when it is blatantly obvious Russia has the upper hand, while the slaughter on the front line may pause, as long as drones are available the conflict will go on.

The arrival of drones and other autonomous weapons technology has atered the nature of war forever.

Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s defence minister, confirmed on Sunday that talks with the US had begun. The Ukrainian politician said he expected discussions to centre around proposals to protect energy facilities and critical infrastructure.

The Kremlin said a resumption of a Black Sea grain deal would be the “main” topic during its talks with the US on Monday. Some commentators in western mainstream media appear to have interpreted this as a surrender by Russia in the naval conflict but there is no evidence this is the case.

After separate calls with Mr Trump, both Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, and Mr Zelensky agreed in principle to pause attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure.

Mr Zelensky also previously agreed to a full 30-day ceasefire but Putin rejected this and shortly after agreeing to a partial pause in fighting, ordered an attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in the Donetsk region.

Ukraine later responded with attacks against several military targets, including the Kremlin’s Engels military airbase 700 miles deep inside Russia.

Mr Zelensky later admitted the ceasefire was unlikely to come into effect until it had been formally agreed in a document between the two countries.

Ukraine has reportedly prepared a list of targets to give to the US that would be off-limits during any partial truce. So business as usual from the stupid, trigger happy Ukies.

In The Daily Sceptic CGW writes:

The introduction of drones into modern warfare has indeed resulted in significant changes to military thinking – which the West has still to assimilate. It is, for example, interesting that Iran apparently considers the idea of an Air Force composed of incredibly expensive modern fighters to be outdated, preferring a huge fleet of inexpensive drones.

Drones result in massive casualties to both armoured vehicles and military personnel, which explains the slow and careful advance of Russian forces. Russia has certainly suffered significant manpower and equipment losses but so has Ukraine: the morbid count of bodies exchanged by both sides was last well in excess of 10:1, if I remember correctly.

The US strategy of weakening Russia has failed completely since Russia is now militarily and economically significantly stronger than before the SMO, despite – or one could argue – because of the sanctions from both USA and Europe.

“Neither the world nor Ukraine trusts Russia” is absolutely not true. Russia has always kept its word in agreements with Ukraine, including the recent agreement not to attack energy infrastructure (which was immediately broken by Ukraine). And the world outside the West is very happy to place its trust in economic relationships with the country.

Trump may, in the case of Russia alone, play the statesman and demand the two sides stop fighting but who are they fighting against? It is USA that started and continues this proxy war against Russia, using Ukrainians and their country as abject, disposable pawns: to what purpose? Precisely how does USA benefit from a “strategy of weakening Russia”?

As I have written before, Russia is a major source of the world’s resources, would it not be more profitable for USA to encourage good relations with Russia rather than war against the country? Or do you mean Russia should be politically weakened, so that USA can continue playing bully boy in the world’s playground?

The world outside the West is tired of USA’s hegemony. USA has convinced its obedient subordinates in Europe to also wage war against Russia at great expense – again, to whose benefit? Does anyone in Europe benefit from this war? Are you going to once again claim that Russia is about to conquer all Europe, despite being supposedly so weak?

USA is also financing Israel to continue its genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, and to continue bombing almost every neighbouring country: how sick and tired do you think the populations around the world are of USA today? The West is still subject to the propaganda pumped out by its mainstream media but that is not the case in the “Global South”. And now Europe is also experiencing just how little it is valued by USA but our glorious politicians are still stuck in their globalist world, much to our detriment.

Couldn't have put it better ourselves.

Western leaders Still Want To Let Ukraine Join NATO Though Even They Must Know It Would Start WW3
‘When are you going to let us use the Storm Shadow?’ a maimed Ukrainian soldier is reported to have asked Boris Johnson during the former Prime Minister's most recent visit to Ukraine. The young man was referring to the Storm Shadw missiles donated to the Ukie was effort by the UK. His comment was prompted by the mass murderer Zelensky's latest idiotic whine about the US /UK / NATO refusal to sanction the use of such missiles to strike targets deep within Russian territory.

Will Commodities Be The New Reserve Currency As The Death Knell Of The Dollar Sounds?
Many respected economists and market analysts who favour the free markets approach concur that we are heading towards a new economic reality that will see the collapse of the US$ as the default reserve currency, to be replaced not by any other fiat currency such as the Euro or the Renminbi, but by a system in which  commodities are the primary denominator of value. Should this turn out to be the case we can expect an acceleration of the shift in geopolitical power from west to East.

As Russia Steps Up Infrastructure Bombardment Ukie Air Defence Success Claims Are Fake

Throughout the past few months Russian forces have been conducting mass missile and drone strikes against Ukraine targeting, with considerable success according to reasonably reliable sources (nobody truly knows the full situation of the conflict, tht is the nature of war,) while the Ukrainian air defense troops claim they have intercepted and destroyed the majorityof the bombardment and sometimes even claim they have destroyed more missiles and drones than the Russians have launched according to data from United Nations sataeelite data.

After yesterday's wave of strikes which once again inflicted damage on Ukrainian energy infrastructure Ukrainian media repeated such claims:

Russia's largest attack: Ukraine's defence forces destroy over 200 out of 236 Russian missiles and drones - Ukrainska Pravda

Russia launched 236 aerial weapons on Ukraine on Monday, 26 August. Ukraine's air defence downed 102 missiles and 99 attack drones.

Source: Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of Ukraine’s Air Force, on social media.
...
All available weapons and equipment were used to repel the air attack: aircraft, anti-aircraft missile troops of the Air Force, mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian defence forces, and electronic warfare units. A total of 201 air targets were shot down in the air combat: 102 missiles and 99 attack UAVs:
- 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile;
- 1 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missile;
- 1 Kh-22 cruise missile;
- 99 Kh-101, Kalibr cruise missiles, and Kh-59/69 guided missiles;
- 99 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs.

This adds up to a claimed success rate of 80.3% against missiles and 90.8% against drones.

These numbers are fantasy.

The highest strke rate Ukraine could feasibly achieve is probably around 20-25 % (colonel Trukhan cited his expert sources of air defense).

80% of missiles could be the best case scenario, something RUAF could achieve (well, higher), where the trajectory is more-or-less known (not the case in Ukraine where missiles and drones can take rather long detours and approach from unexpected angles, with IRIS-T, Patriot or NASAMS systems then pointing in wrong direction).

Nato radar aircraft from Poland, Romania or Black Sea have tough time covering low flying missiles, let alone drones. Ukraine has to use their air defense radars to scan the low altitudes to see these missiles, which carries a high potential of RUAF discovering and hitting the radar. And there were reports of radars being struck among the attack few days ago.

The number of impacts by incoming missiles registered by locals is a more reliable source to go by, and those amateur observers have filled a long list with information on many hits on strategic targets.  After the several waves of attacks there remained reports of BDA drones circling the central and eastern portions of Ukraine. Will Russia launch an immediate follow-up strike is now the question. Much of the Ukie electrified railway system has been knocked out, and likely needs further degrading; same with the electrical power system. Also, the boasting of having neutralized the Black Sea Fleet was proven to be just that, as many missiles have been launched at the flotilla, but very few have struck targets. How much damage has been inflivted on \russian warships is unclear, but most of those ships are still active and firing on Ukie targets.

Winter Is Coming - As The days Get Shorter And Colder Russia Focuses Attacks On Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

Reports of attacks on Ukraine’s Cherkasy, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskiy, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv regions.

Russia's biggest attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for many months comes on the eve of the autumnal equinox as Ukrainians prepare as well as they can in difficult circumstances for the winter.

Reports from the Ministry of Truth in Kiev said that the attacks launched last night were the biggest maissile strikes on energy facilities for six months. Russia reportedly launched several cruise missiles from strategic bombers from western Russia. The Ukrainian general staff said 43 cruise missiles were launched, while Ukraine’s air defense shot down 36 out of those but given Ukrainian propagandist's propensity for exaggeration of successes and concealment of setbacks if we reverse those figures the result might be closer to reality.

According to data from United Nations satellites monitoring the conflict the greatest amount of damage was caused in western and central Ukraine, and mostly energy infrastructure was hit. Ukraine says many people were injured in one town where a hotel was hit.

At least 18 people, including a child, were injured in air strikes, Ukrainian officials admitted to Reuters

Al Jazeera, which throughout the war has been one of the more reliable sources of information from the war zone reports Russia launched 'more than 20 long range missiles and 20 targets, mostly energy infrastructure sites, including an electricity distribution hub and an oil refinery were hit were hit.

There are now towns and cities without power and the authorities are trying to restore electricity supply as fast as they can.

“Winter is coming. Tonight russia renew missile attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure,” Andrii Osadchuk, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine, wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

The attack occurred weeks before the winter heating season in Ukraine begins. We can expect more attacks of this nature as Moscow, sensing that the western powers, irritated by Zelensky's constant demands for more support, appear to be preparing to cease provinding the means for Kiev to escalate the conflict.

Earlier this week, Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) said it is conducting large-scale preparation for the upcoming heating season.

“In close coordination with the Ministry of Energy, companies and enterprises of the oil and gas, electricity and coal industries are conducting restoration and repair works and preparing the relevant infrastructure for this winter in the conditions of constant military challenges,” GTSOU said on Tuesday.

“Special attention is paid to the reliability of gas transportation on the border with European countries in addition to the usual preparatory measures,” the system operator said.

It looks like being an even tougher winter for Ukrainian citizens than last year.

As Ukraine's much hyped counterattack has failed to achieved the and momentum that hoped for by American and NATO leaders including President Volodymyr Zelensky who admitted it was "slower than desired", and a range of soldiers interviewed by BBC and Sky News television reporters t on different parts of the long (probably too long given the depletion of Ukrainian military manpower,) frontline have blamed minefields laid by Russian troops for that delay. Germany haemorrhaging cash to keep country running on as ‘net zero’ becomes zeroeconomic activity
Germany was so desperate to achieve 'net zero' CO2 emissions that for years the country's government closed its fossil fuel-fired and nuclear power plants, replacing those plants with wind and solar power — as well as impoorting huge volumes of natural gas and oil from Russia. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, when NATO (aka the U.S.A.) mandated that the West impose retaliatory sanctions on Russia, including a ban on importation of Russian gas and oil, Germany found itself in a hole:

Just When We Need It Most, Renewable Energy Disappears
In an encouraging sign of a great awakening, million of people in the UK are now, after a week of brutally cold, absolutely windless weather asking "Why have we wasted so much money on wind turbines and harvesting solar energy."

Official Advice - Prepare For Blackouts This Winter
The UK government is putting plans together for days of organised blackouts this winter, in what they call a "reasonable worst-case scenario" for energy shortages, according to reports in manstream media. Naturally they are blaming this on the embargo on importing gas from Russia but in reality Britain has never imported any more than a small amout of its gas from Russia. The real reason politicians and energy company CEOs are panicking is entirely due to their obession with obtaining all our energy from intermittent sources like wind and sunshine ...

Gigantic Nova Kakhova Dam in Ukraine Blown Up - Each Side Blames The Other As The War Grinds On

A day after Ukraine's much-heralded counter-offensive appears to have failed, almost before it had even begun, a major dam in the Russian-occupied region of Kherson is suddenly bombed, prompting mass evacuations as floods spread across the region.

both sides accuse each other of the attack that puts tens of thousands of homes at risk and might even threaten the safety of Europe's largest nuclear power plant.

However, as Raul Ilargi Meijer writes, twice last year (here and here), Ukrainian officials discussed Kiev's plans to blow up the dam.

Andrew Korybko lays out the real narrative here:

The partial destruction of the Kakhovka Dam on early Tuesday morning saw Kiev and Moscow exchange accusations about who’s to blame, but report from the Washington Post (WaPo) in late December extends credence to the Kremlin’s version of events.

Titled “Inside the Ukrainian counteroffensive that shocked Putin and reshaped the war”, its journalists quoted former commander of November’s Kherson Counteroffensive Major General Andrey Kovalchuk who shockingly admitted to planning this war crime:

“Kovalchuk considered flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper’s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages. The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. He held off.”

Though all mainstream news organisations are running with the sabotage narrative (and of course the "it's the Russians" narrative,) some more considered commentaries are suggesting the dam, already damaged by previous attempts to blow it up, and under unusual levels of pressure since early May when the Ukraine government drained dams further upstream, thus causing water level in Nova Kakhovan to rise above the safe limit.

from Telegram: https://t.me/rezident_ua/18140

The dam was simply washed away by water, due to the destroyed spans, which any person with education understands, the resistance of materials has done its job. Moreover, the fact that the hydroelectric dam stood for so long after the HIMARS missile strikes confirms the qualitative approach of Soviet architects. Now in the information war, each side will try to blame each other, but the dam was filmed by cameras 24 by 7 and the explosion would have been filmed instantly, which means it did not exist.

Sabotage or enthusiastic incompetence? Either way, loss of the dam and the hydro electric power plan it fed is a huge blow to Ukrainian infrastructure although Russia gains nothing from the destruction and will be seriousl inconvenienced by knock on effects as water from the dam supplies most of Crimea's industrial and domestic needs.

Having said that, military experts say the strategic dynamics in the NATO-Russian proxy war in Ukraine still favor Russia. This assessment is based on the observation that Russia’s victory in the Battle of Artyomovsk shows that it’s able to hold its own against NATO in terms of technology and logistics.

Even the New York Times, having steadfastly trumpeted the Ukrainian propaganda line since the war began, has been forced to admit that the West’s sanctions failed to collapse Russia’s economy while endless injections of cash and military hardware from NATO members into the Ukrainian war effort have failed to change the course of the war since Russia's initial strike which Moscow hoped would force Kiev's surrender within days was blocked by unexpectedly fierce Ukrainian resistance. Worse (for the west,) it is impossible to deny the proliferation of multipolar processes in the 15 months since the special operation began. These include German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, former US National Security Council member Fiona Hill, and Goldman Sachs’ President of Global Affairs Jared Cohen.

Apparently these people don't realise that the ship has sailed on getting the Global South to comply with US and NATO diktat. The West’s economic and propaganda campaign failed to coerce the Global South to  support America's sanctions on Russia even among those states that voted in support of hostile resolutions against it at the UN General Assembly. Many of them were arguably inspired by fellow developing country India’s principled neutrality towards the NATO-Russian proxy war, which showed that they can indeed multi-align between the US-led West and the Sino-Russo Entente if they have the political will and diplomatic deftness to do so.

To be sure, most Global South states were already disinclined to support the West due to their resentment over being treated so unfairly by it over the decades, but India proved that it’s possible to defy their pressure without any serious consequences so long as they maintain balance between both sides. India's subsequent refusal to support the Biden administration's New Cold War and Washington's demands demands to unilaterally concede on their objective national interests represented a turning point in global affairs.

Meanwhile water continues to pour through the breached dam and the people of Ukraine, having been chosen for beatification as the sacrifice that would give up its life on the altar of American hegemonic ambitions.

De - Dollarisation: China, Brazil Make Deal To Ditch US Dollar For Bilateral Trades
China and Brazil this week concluded a deal to conduct trade between their nations in their own in their own currencies, ditching the established reserve currency for global trade, US dollar as an intermediary, the Brazilian announced said on Wednesday. This is Beijing’s latest strike against the almighty greenback in its currency war aimed at shifting the balance of geopolitical and economic power from west to east.

Status Report On That War Thing In Ukraine: Nordstream to Bakhmut, electricity and water - December 2022

In the wake of attacks on the on the Stream pipelines, that effectively halted the flow of natural gas which German industry, commerce, agriculture and society relies on, and the terrorist attack on the Kerch Bridge, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken gloated that the attacks were a “tremendous opportunity” to weaken Moscow [...] And shortly after news of the Nord Stream sabotage broke on mainstream media, gas supply companies in the USA were offering to supply Europe with shipments of Liquid Natural Gas carried by supertanker to be sold to European nations at vastly inflated prices.

Who Blew Up The Nordstream Pipeline
So whodunnit? Sabotage of undersea gas pipe will escalate tension and move the world closer to nuclear war, but who is behind it, Russia in a bid to put more presure on Europe, Ukraine in an attempt to drag NATO into direct action, or the USA using a CIA false flag event to advance its own agenda.

Satellite Images Shows Extent Of Ukraine Power Grid Destruction

Western Media's 'Ukraine Is Winning' Narrative Exposed As Pure Propaganda Lies.

Day after day since the war began back in February the narrative peddled by US and European mainstream media is that Ukraine was winning on all fronts and the Russians were taking a terrible beating as their special Military Operation failed.  The recent Russian pull-back of troops to the east bank of the Dneipro River, which was hailed by the west as a great defeat and total hulimiation for Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin was in fact a sound tactical move. With winter approaching it was wise to dig in behind defensible boundaries. The move also indicated a shift in Russian tactics to the one thing the Kremlin had avoided for several months, full spectrum strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure with the aim of knocking out vital services such as electricity, telecommunications and water and rendering transport links unusable.

Initially, Ukraine's media spin suggested that Russia's precision strikes were "ineffective", with western news outlets showing only old images of burned out tanks, craters in streets and some scarred apartment buildings.  There were limited admissions of damage to the power and water grids, but Ukraine claimed that these systems would be back and functional within days.  This did not happen. Ukrainian claims that Russia had lost thousands of soldiers killed or maimed while the Ukrainian military suffered only light losses were also revealed as the opposite of the truth. Reliable sources not linked to either government or to NATO report that while Russia has taken significant losses, Ukraines dead and critically wounded outnumber Russia's by five to one.

It is not surprising then to learn that Ukraine  has suffered far more damage to their utilities than the government and media are willig to report.  Latest estimates, backed by satellite imaery, suggest that  from 60% to 80% of the nation's  electricity grid  is either destroyed beyond repair or unusable while the latest satellite photos of active lights at night support this.  Below, we can see lights across Ukraine on February 24th at the start of the war.

Next, we have an image taken from November 24th.

It appears from the evidence that more than half the nation is in total darkness and the comparison to neighboring countries where the night time images are unchanged is stark.  For the majority of the war Ukraine's power grid, internet, water, gas, and other amenities functioned almost normally, which is highly unusual during an invasion but shows the Russians were exercising restraint .  The reasons for Vladimir Putin's regime seeking to avoid damage to infrastructure are unknown, but public optics are the most likely explanation.  With power resources nearly destroyed, the citizenry of Ukraine is facing a long cold winter with little to no relief in sight.

No doubt the media will portray this as the weaponsiation of winter, though, elimination of infrastructure is usually the first measure of a large scale attack.  It is standard operating procedure for US and NATO military operations for example, as evidenced by what happened in The Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria.  As of now, the coldest winter temperatures have yet to hit Ukraine, with average lows of 21°F (-6°C) in December.  This kind of weather is not a problem with infrastructure intact, but with the grid down there will be chaos.

Water pipes will freeze and bust across major population centers, leaving only well water. The effects of the cold on health will be cumulative, and without heating and electric most other operations including economic activity will grind to a halt.  Ukraine's population will have gone from relative comfort to brutal survival in the span of a couple months.

The next obvious outcome for nations supporting Ukraine is yet another refugee crisis, with millions of people seeking shelter in neighboring countries in order to escape the cold, hunger and lack of healthcare, medicines and basic amenities.  Though mainstream analysts are finally admitting to the grid problem, there is still very little coverage of the actual consequences we are about to witness.  The assertions that Ukraine is "winning" the war would be much harder to sell while at the same time acknowledging the massive economic and humanitarian disaster that is escalating in the wake of Ukraine's stunning run of military successes.

Russia Intensifies Bombardment Of Ukraine Infrastructure - Millions Without Electricity, Water

Russian tanks damaged

Another massive bombardment by Russian long range missiles knocked out critical infrastructure targets in Kyiv, Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities on Monday, again knocking out water and power supplies to millions of people in what, according to Kremlin sources, was a Ukrainian attack on its Black Sea Fleet over the weekend.

As the war grinds on into its ninth month Russia is intensifying attacks on Ukraine's power plants and other key infrastructure. People throughout most of  Ukraine are already experiencing power cuts and water rationing as a result of this strategy. Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces carried out "strikes with long-range high-precision air and sea-based weapons against the military command and energy systems of Ukraine."

"The goals of the strikes were achieved. All designated targets were hit," the ministry said in a statement.

The Ukrainuan government claims its air force shot down 44 of more than 50 cruise missiles that were launched by Russia but this was contradicted by a statement from Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal who said Russian missiles and drones hit 10 and damaged 18 targets across 10 Ukrainian regions, mostly energy facilities.  Do the arithmetic.

Hundreds of communities in seven Ukrainian regions are now without power, he said in a Facebook post Loud explosions were heard across the Ukrainian capital in the early morning as residents prepared to go to work. The emergency services sent out text message warnings about the threat of a missile attack, and air raid sirens wailed for three hours during.

"The Kremlin is taking revenge for military failures on peaceful people who are left without electricity and heat before the winter," Kyiv region Gov. Oleksii Kuleba said. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 80% of consumers in the city of 3 million people were left without water supplies because of the damage to a power facility. Local authorities were working on restoring the supplies as soon as possible, Klitschko said, telling Kyiv residents in the meantime to "stock up on water from the nearest pump rooms and points of sale."

Attacks won't weaken resistance: Ukraine
Andriy Yermak, the head of the office of President Vobblyvoddymyr Bellendskyyyyyy, vowed that the attacks on civilian facilities would not weaken Ukraine's resistance. "We will persevere, and generations of Russians will pay a high price for their disgrace," Yermak said.

Smoke was seen rising from the left bank of the Dnieper River in Kyiv, either from a missile strike or where it was shot down by Ukrainian forces. A resident of the area said he heard four loud explosions that rocked the area. "At first I thought I heard a jet going by, but then I realized it was a missile," said Serhii, who refused to give his full name. "The explosions were so loud! I consider myself experienced and prepared for attacks like this. But it was way too close and loud. I was frightened, really frightened."

Prime Minister Shmyhal said that in the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, emergency power shutdowns were underway.
