Media Silent as Biggest Protests Since nineteen Sixties Sweep France

As the country prepares to host two million visitors at the showpiece Euro 2016 Football Championship in less than two weeks, labor strikes at oil refineries and nuclear power plants; fuel shortages paralyzing
aviation and public transport system; violent street protests; nationwide riots; and a state of emergency until the end of July to cover the Tour de France has proved a major headache for François Hollande — currently the least popular French president since polls began in France. The protests are being called the largest and longest lasting since the French Revolution.

Explosive Trade Union Revolt Plunges France Into Chaos

The first collaborative protest against the Socialist government since Hollande came to power in 2012, kicked off on 9 March. On March 31, nearly 400,000 people took to the streets, disagreeing with the sweeping changes to labor laws; though organizers put the number at 1.2 million.

On April 9, about 120,000 people marched in Paris and across France for a sixth time, protesting against contested labor reforms. Organizers called for yet another strike on April 28, and a massive protest on May 1, Labor Day. Reports of police officers clashing with protesters, deploying tear gas in several French cities, and protesters burning vehicles, smashing windows flooded the Internet.

In his response, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said in the city of Lyon:

“I call on the organizers of these demonstrations to condemn with the same firmness that I do the unrest caused by these handful of thugs.”

Demanding a complete withdrawal of the draft reform bill, French workers stepped up protests, rallies and blockades in the third week of May. As per the latest updates, one in three gas stations across the country run dry, causing long queues at normally well-stocked stations. There are blockades at 5 of France’s 8 oil refineries. Nearly 1/5^th of nuclear power output is cut by striking staff. Since the nation’s electricity supply
has dropped, the government is forced to dig into its emergency reserves.

On May 26, more than 150,000 marched against the government’s plans to make it easier for firms to hire and fire. Reuters reports:

“In the southwestern city of Bordeaux, about 100 people targeted a police station, throwing objects and damaging a police car. In Paris and in the western city of Nantes, bank windows were broken and protesters clashed with police. The next
big day of protests is planned on June 14 [when French senators begin discussing the reform package], four days after the Euro 2016 soccer tournament opens in France. The CGT warned it could be disrupted if the government refuses to withdraw the draft reform bill.”

Although French Prime Minister Manuel Valls is willing to modify some of the proposals, workers’ unions are unwilling to back down. Particularly angry that the government is enacting a constitutional power to bypass parliament to pass the bill, several unions led by one of the country’s largest unions, the General Confederation of Labor (or the CGT),declared in an open letter:

“This week, the actions, the strikes and the blockades by workers from a number of industries to demand the retraction of this labor bill and to obtain new rights show that our determination remains intact.”

Plagued by dismal popularity ratings and high unemployment, President Hollande, who staked his whole term in office on improving life for the country’s struggling youth, says the labor reform is vital to tackle joblessness. Labor Minister Myrian El Khomri, too, defends the new labor law dubbed “the bosses law” by its opponents.

“This law corresponds to the situation in our country. We have an unemployment rate of over 10% the same as it was 20 years ago. It has improved over the last month, however that is not satisfactory. Our country created fewer jobs than other European countries [Between 2013 and 2015, 57,000 jobs were created in France, 482,000 in
Germany, 651,000 in Spain and 288,000 in Italy.] So for me the text and the goal of this reform is to be able to just improve access to employment.”

However, opponents of the labor reform say it will threaten cherished rights and deepen job insecurity for young people by helping companies fire staff arbitrarily. Henry Samuel and Raziye Akkoc of The Telegraph observed:

“The government believes it will create thousands of jobs but the IMF, and the French opposition say the reform doesn’t go nearly far enough to significantly reverse record unemployment, now at 10%, and soaring public debt, due to reach 98% of GDP next year.”

What Lies AheadThis is the first time a Socialist French government has faced a nationwide trade union rebellion in more than 30 years. The left’s opposition to the reforms has been vast, threatening to tear apart Hollande’s own support base.

The proposed reform has compounded the fury of many within the Socialist Party and the further left at what they see as
the treacherous, rightward course of the Hollande-Valls government. The protests have been led by the former Socialist leader, and ‘mother’ of the 35-hour week, Martine Aubry, who has =resigned from all her official positions within the party. Aubry complains that the rewriting of French employment law in line with ‘liberal’ pro-market dogma is a betrayal of the French ‘social contract.'”

An online
petition against the proposed changes has gathered over 1 million signatures, a record in France. According to a recent Le Parisien poll, a majority of French people favor labor reforms, but 70%
oppose the government’s way of going about it.

It will be a political suicide for Hollande if he rolls back the labor reform – he has promised he will not run for re-election next year unless he manages to stem the rise in unemployment. But as The Guardian rightly notes, it is not just Hollande’s political survival at stake, though,
but the image of France itself.

Six-Figure Fines for failing to use the right transgender Gender Pronouns?

This story broke a few says ago, but I was so gobsmacked by the sheer stupidity of this latest idiocy from New Your liberals I spent a week verifying it all. It was a waste of time really, I should have known that no matter how stupid New York and Californian neo - fascist 'liberals' have been in the past, they can always find a way to be even more stupid in the future.

The left was traditionally the politics of Free Speech, Individual Liberty, personal development and self determination. It was the left that celebrated anarchists, non - conformists, eccentrics and outsiders. Left wig writers and performers thrust obscene words and sexually graphic images into the public sphere and left wing critics supported them. I was a member of the British Liberal Party from the 1960s to the 1990s, tolerance and open mindedness were our watchwords, we tolerated homosexuality but saw no need to glorify it, likewise with abortion - Liberal politicians campaigned for it to be legally available, but not used as a routine form of contraception (watch the British move Vera Drake if you want to know the background to that). Conservatives were the ones who insisted on 'decency' and a kind of moral equivalent of foot-binding that produced many emotionally stunted, judgmental, self righteous individuals. A hypocritical brand of Christianity demanded moral regulation, both within the private sector and from the national and local government, to protect the public from being debauched by the dark forces of bohemianism.

Now, in an era of identity politics, leftists are becoming the ones who censor and and call for free speech to be criminalised, invent crimes like 'hate speech' and ban certain words and ideas they find offensive. This has led to some bloggers and new media journalists (and I'm mentioning no names here) dubbing them 'bansturbators' because they get off on banning other peoples' fun.

Breaking the new language rules of the the illiberal liberals is about to become very expensive in New York.

Washington Post correspondent Eugene Volokh recently broke a story revealing that the New York City Commission on Human Rights has issued guidance that employers, landlords, professionals and businesses can now be fined up to $250,000 for not using an individual’s preferred name, pronoun or title, under the New York City Human Rights Law, “regardless of the individual’s sex assigned at birth, anatomy, gender, medical history, appearance, or the sex indicated on the individual’s identification.”

Legal “guidance” for businesses in New York states: “Most individuals and many transgender people use female or male pronouns and titles. Some transgender and gender non-conforming people prefer to use pronouns other than he/him/his or she/her/hers, such as they/them/theirs or ze/hir.” So, if you willfully and/or maliciously refuse to call a person “they” as preferred, you can be fined.

People will be forced to use “ze”, a made-up word that has no meaning beyond subjective personal definitions, to refer to one person, and then required to use a different pronoun for the for the next person of the same gender you encounter tomorrow. And everybody will have to be au fait with the new terms that some groups, particularly blacks and the Gay BLT lobby come up with an a weekly basis. So far, the pronouns for the various types of transgender freaks include “ze,” “xe,” “ve,” “(f)ae” and “per,” and more. Some even insisted on “Mx.” instead of “Mr.” or “Ms.”

This mandated speech code amounts to a rejection of biology that is far more unscientific than rejecting evolution as creationists do, and yet the people who claim they believe in science are quite happy with it not only because it endorses leftist cultural authoritarianism (a form of moral fascism that has no place in democratic regimes)but because it threatens to make criminals of people based on somebody's subjective response to their behaviour.

For a group who claim to be opposed to privilege, this seems very much like creating a privileged Gay, Lesbian and Transgender caste.

“We can’t even display a license plate that says ‘Live Free or Die’ on our car, if somebody objects to the message because it makes 'ze' feel threatened (by others' freedom?) or hurts 'ze' feelings; that’s what a court ruled in Wooley v. Maynard (1978),” Volokh argued. “But New York is requiring people to actually say words that convey a message of approval of the view that gender is a matter of self-perception rather than anatomy.”

What’s more, Volokh warned, the Big Apple grammar police have declared that “refusal to use a transgender employee’s preferred name, pronoun, or title may constitute unlawful gender-based harassment.” Thus under New York state law it is a crime punishable by heavy financial penalties. This is not an empty threat, in 2012, Mirella Salemi, a Manhattan-based lesbian chef at a Mexican eatery, was awarded $1.6 million in damages by a New York county judge, because her employer, Edward Globokar, “threatened her soul” and held employee prayer meetings in the hopes of curing her of her sexuality. The fines were upheld in 2014.

President Obama’s dictatorial imposition of a transgender-bathroom policy for all of the nation’s schools makes it clear that if the rent - boy President's anointed successor managed to stay out of jail and gain the Presidency, the federal government will probably follow New York City. The Obama administration has prioritized gay, lesbian and transgenerr issues throughout its second term and has already taken the view that existing federal sex-discrimination laws automatically apply to "gender identity." The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission views it as illegal under federal law to persistently call employees by the "wrong" (i.e. biologically correct) pronoun.

And what is the correct pronoun for creatures that have their wediing tack cut off? Or for people like bruce - Caitlyn Jenner who hold on to their bits but dress in womens' clothes and 'identify' as women? Personally I call the latter chicks-with-dicks. But then I have no intention of visiting New York any time soon.

Brexit Economic Forecasts Are Nonsense And Pure Scaremongering

The contributors to this blog are fairly solidly opposed to the EU - not just Britain's continued membership of the supranational bureaucratic dictatorship, but to the continuing existence of this pernicious, authoritarian, undemocratic institution per se. We were all happy therefore to see that classical liberal journalist and writer, the estimable Simon Jenkins expose the scaremongering predictions of financial collapse as 'specious'. To be fair, the leave campaign have been prone to exaggeration in their economic forecasts too, but they were put in a position of having to rebut idiotic claims that Britain would not be able to trade with any nations that are EU members and that all foreign investment in Britain would be withdrawn if we vote for Brexit.

One of the worst culprits in the economic scaremongering aimed at bullying us into voting 'Remain' came from the Institute of Financial Services (IFS), an organisation that receives a significant chunk of its funding from the EU. It would be wrong to accuse them of corrupt practice or of distorting evidence, these people are economics academics and as such are probably so detached from reality they actually believe the unmitigated bollocks they talk. The case is that statistics is not a science but a branch of the dark arts, thus one can find evidence that supports just about any economic hypothesis a hippy on the mother of all acid trips could dream up. Sun-spots affect the price of oranges? Certainly, we have a graph that proves it. Prostitutes' knickers and hysteresis-driven fluctuations in the financial markets? Just check out this spreadsheet. All IFS have done is take the assumptions from many economic studies based on mathematical models of the post industrial economies and apply them to a hypothetical situation that probably takes account of about 4% of the correlative factors it ought to. Or as the aforementioned Simon Jenkins put it nailed in the Evening Standard.

The Treasury has, for the duration of the referendum campaign, switched from being a respected economic institution to being a lobbyist for Project Fear. Its notorious apocalypse algorithm looked like a schoolboy spoof, with its subscripts and squiggles “proving” Brexit would cost every household £4,300. (Didn’t the Treasury once prove that EU regulation cost households virtually the same?)
The Treasury thesis appears to be that the shock of Brexit would make Londoners poorer, interest rates higher and deter immigrants and rich foreigners from buying or renting houses in the capital. Prices would therefore fall. That is certainly plausible. Whether this would be a “shock” scenario for most Londoners is surely moot.
We are now entering a world in which economists simply seek predictions to support prejudices. The Treasury assumes that Brexit would lead to a fall in the pound. But surely that would make houses cheaper for foreigners to buy and push at least some prices back up? Why does Osborne not warn of a Brexit “soaring house price shock”?

These imponderables are clearly too great for any sensible person — but not apparently today’s highly politicised Treasury. The wisest remark perhaps comes from Johnny Morris of the estate agent Countrywide, who says simply: “Brexit would be an unprecedented turn of events, with a wide range of possible outcomes.” That is economist-speak for “no one has a clue”.

So, everyone from blokes in the saloon bar to social commentators have worked out that these economic forecasts are drek. If these experts were even slightly honest they would admit we simply don't know what Brexit would bring, but we can cope with it, we coped with world War two FFS.

It is gratifying to know that the scaremongering has backfired, particularly that of HM Treasury, which has face a legal rebuke because of its ignoring the impartiality rule on government departments in political matters, and David Cameron, whose inept attempts to use the government to campaign for the Remain side has put his future as Prime Minister on the line. While Brexit campaigners have been comelled to counter the spurious predictions of economic disaster, fortunately the argument for Brexit which was never about economics has swung back to the issues of sovereignty, legislative authority and the authoritarian, undemocratic nature of the EU. It is cowardly, unpatriotic and immoral to allow British sovereignty to be stolen by a gang of profoundly anti-democratic and unelected EU bureaucrats who believe diversity is something to do with the colour of peoples' skin and are intent on imposing cultural, ideological and religious uniformityon the very diverse peoples of the EU's current member nations. This is about preserving freedom and resisting fascism, not economics.

Russia Loses Patience In Syria, Unleashes Hell On ISIS

According to the reports coming out of Syria, Russian Su-34 jets have destroyed a series of oil production facilities operated by terrorists near Raqqa."Russian Su-34 attack aircraft have destroyed terrorists' illegal oil production facilities in al-Taura located 42 kilometers [roughly 26 miles] to the southwest of Raqqa," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

Raqqa is the self-proclaimed capital of the terrorist group Daesh, aka IS/Islamic State. The city also allegedly served as a hub for terrorist oil convoys making their way into Turkey. As er have reported, Turkey';s President Recep Erdogan was a key player in funding and arming ISIS and members of his family were directly involved in managing the trade in illegal oil. The Erdogan clan is alleged to have made many millions of dollars from their support for terrorism.u

On March 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Aerospace Forces unit had fulfilled its mission in Syria and that its withdrawal would begin the following day. Moscow does, however, maintain a military presence in Syria, as a deadline for a complete pullout has not yet been announced.

Last month, Russian and Syrian Air Forces carried out coordinated airstrikes against Daesh in the province of Raqqa.

With peace talks in Syria deadlocked and conflict still raging in the country's northern part, Moscow is currently proposing a remarkable diplomatic solution to the country's seething ethnic tensions. Having eliminated over 28,000 terrorists since the start of the Syrian operation last September, according to estimates, Russia is now attempting to sideline the USA's ineffectual Obama administration and take the leading role in negotiations on the future of Syria, the Danish newspaper Politiken suggested.

Although the NATO / EU alliance sees Russia as the main supporter of Syria's Assad regime, Moscow, has recently tabled proposals for a new constitution, which would decentralize Assad's power. One of the proposals is to limit the president's term of office to seven years, Danish newspaper Politiken wrote. According to a think-tank under the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian proposal aims at substantially limiting the Syrian president's power to make Assad's resignation unnecessary because his role after a transition period will be nothing but marginal.

Russia proposes that the president should be responsible to the elected parliament. The president will therefore lack any legislative powers, which will be in the remit of an elected parliament. The Russian draft constitution also omits the formerly crucial principle that the Syrian president must be a Muslim, Politiken wrote.

In the draft of a new Syrian constitution, which was recently leaked to the media in the Middle East, Russia suggested that Syria should change its official name from the Syrian Arab Republic to the Republic of Syria, in order to appeal to ethnic minorities such as Kurds and Turkmen, Politiken reported, citing Gulf News.

In the light of this, it seems the latest Russian blitzkrieg on Raqqa, apart from preparing the way for a final assault by Syrian and Iranian ground troops, may also be a means of sending a message to ISIS fanatics that resistance is futile.

Silicon Valley's War On Free Speech: Google Plays Politics

Google, the biggest search company on the internet by huge margin, has, after allegedly to collaborate with the unelected EU Commission to influence the British Referendum vote on continued membership of the increasingly authoritarian bureaucratic dictatorship that is emerging from what was sold as a simple free trade arrangement between European Nations, buried a popular eurosceptic website on the second page of search results on the topic, the website’s founder, Dr. Richard North has claimed.

He said the Internet giant is "corrupt" (we've been telling you that since 2005, and its not just Google; Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and most ISPs and cellular networks also collaborate with governments and supranational bureaucracies to pervert democracy and advance an agenda that would impose on us a global, totalitarian government.) North's remarks also implied Google supports a pro-European Union (EU) agenda, just one day after the EU revealed it is working with Facebook, Twitter and (Google-owned) YouTube to promote “alternative narratives” it supports.

Just yesterday, Google’s public policy and government relation’s director, Lie Junius, said the firm was, “pleased to work with the [European] Commission” – the EU’s unelected executive arm.

Over seventy per cent of Internet searches are made on Google (eff knows why, it's a shitty search technology). It is the primary source of information for low - infoprmation voters today and has been estimated to command the power to decide the voting preference of 80 per cent for some demographics, particularly those under the age of forty.

Its role in the tight-run EU referendum, therefore, could be influential.

So when the popular and eurosceptic EUReferendum website recently disappeared off Google’s first page of results on the topic – after being the top result for the topic on search engines for more than a decade – eyebrows were raised. But Google has a long record of penalizing sites which promote political points of view that differ from the politically correct prejudices of the semi - autistic nerds who control the company.

EU Referendum was founded in 2004 by author and researcher Richard North and was rated by the Financial Times as the UK’s most influential political blog in 2006. It remains the top result for the topic when searched on Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing (and rates highly on DuckDuckGo, Good Gopher and StartPage.

But on Google now, it appears as either the 13th or 15th result, on the second page – below three government pages on the topic, four links to the pro-EU Guardian and Independent newspapers, one to the BBC, and just one to the more eurosceptic Telegraph.

Hundreds of young people from a French socio - political movement we have not heard of before, Génération Identitaire movement have marched through the streets of Paris, protesting against Islamisation, mass immigration, and Islamic extremist terrorism.

The "hipster right" Génération Identitaire group are a notably youthful movement of anti-mass migration activists who engage in direct action.

Génération Identitaire formed in 2012 as the youth wing of the Bloc Identitaire with the aim of "rallying young French and Europeans who are proud of their roots and of their heritage" and opposing "imperialism, whether it be American or Islamic."

In a statement on their website released ahead of yesterday’s event, the group said: “Between Islamist attacks and migrant invasion, the year 2015 has marked a turning point in the contemporary history of our country. The French have been silent for too long… It is time to show our determination to continue to live on our land, under our laws, our democratic values and with respect to our identity.

Germany Hopes To Ease Anti-Russia Sanctions 'to Rescue EU Unity'

Having done more over the past decade to destroy European Unity (which was always something of a fairy tale anyway), Angela Merkel now wants to rescue it.

Hausfrau Volksfuhrer Merkel is not leading a bid by German politicians to devise a plan to lift the anti-Russian economic sanctions the USA's Obama administration bullied the EU into supporting. Berlin plans to abolish a range of trade restrictions imposed at Obama's insistence after Russia annexed Crimea following ethnic cleansing of Russian speakers in the area by the US backed regime in Kiev. Germany hopes that in exchange for removing sanctions Moscow's assistance in the organization of the local elections in Eastern Ukraine will be secured, according to Der Spiegel.

In August 2014, the EU and the US imposed economic sanctions on Russia, accusing Moscow of fueling civil conflict between pro Russian rebels and the neo - Nazi regime put in place after a CIA backed coup deposed the democratically elected government. Russian authorities have repeatedly denied the allegations and in response introduced a food embargo that negatively affected the economies of a number of European countries. In other words, while Obama's sanctions have not affected the USA which has very little trade with Russia, and has been a minor inconvenience to Russia because they can get what they need from non EU countries, a lot of smaller EU nations with fragile economies have suffered damaging effects.

(Sarcasm alert) This if a typical Obama administration foreign policy triumph.

Until now, Germany's position on the removal of imposed restrictions has been not until the Minsk agreements are fully implemented, the article said. Now, however, Berlin is willing to make concessions and ease sanctions if the countries are able to reach at least some progress in the Minsk process. antagonising Russia has hurt Germany, already beset with massive domestic problems, too.

"I have always held the position that the sanctions are not a goal in itself. The easing of sanctions can be discussed if visible progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements is achieved," German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is quoted as saying.

According to the magazine, Berlin is likely to unilaterally lift some sanctions in exchange for Moscow's assistance in the organization of local elections in Eastern Ukraine. However, the move will probably include the removal of a travel ban rather than restrictions which are of actual importance for Russia, such as financial sanctions or sanctions imposed with regard to Crimea.

"In this way, Germany seeks to maintain EU unity and to reconcile the supporters and opponents of the sanctions," the magazine wrote. A few weeks ago we reported that the resistance within EU, mostly among the Visigard group natioons, against the continuation of sanctions is growing. It is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve a common position on this issue, he said. According to the magazine, the most important goal for the German government is to keep unity within the EU so that the Russian President does not get the impression that he can split European countries.

US Senators Attack Attorney General Loretta Lynch For Sanctioning Witch Hunt On Climate Change

US Virgin Islands: Idyllic resorts, not much of an oil industry

Lawyers for Exxon Mobile went to court in Texas last month seeking to block a subpoena issued earlier this year by the attorney general of the U.S. Virgin Islands, which alleging that the oil and petroleum giant is deceiving the public about the effects of climate change demanded the company open its records to Department of Justice lawyers. Exxon responded by claiming that the subpoena is an unwarranted phishing expedition into Exxon's confidential records and as such violates its constitutional rights; "The chilling effect of this inquiry, which discriminates based on viewpoint to target one side of an ongoing policy debate, strikes at the protected speech at the core of the First Amendment" the court filing said according to the WSJ. One has to wonder who might have bribed the banana semi-republic and with what inducements for their Attorney General to be willing to act as the Obama administration's patsy in this latest attack on liberty.

As was reported last year, Exxon found itself on the shocking receiving end of an administration led by a petulant arrested adolescent (and former rent boy allegedly) who has demonstrated many times in his years as President Of The United States that revenge is always high on his agenda when nations or corporations do not comply with his diktat.

Exxon signed an agreement in 2014 which strengthened the oil giant's links with Russia's state-owned oil company Rosneft. At the time the Obama administration was trying to isolate Russia in order to undermine its economy which is heavily dependent on oil exports. The payback, which can be presented as part of Obama's liberal global warming climate change crackdown (which incidentally confers great benefits none other than carbon credit powerhouse Goldman Sachs the most) rather than an infantile exercise in throwing his toys out of the cot, came when the New York State Attorney General launching a sweeping investigation of Exxon mobile to determine whether the company lied to the public about the risks of climate change, or to investors about how that risk might hurt the oil business.

Given that the Attorney General of that global powerhouse the U.S. Virgin Islands AG has now joined in, one thing that has become clear is that Exxon is now being targeted by the US government for its alleged views on climate change, which implicitly run contrary to Obama's. Of course, the Obama administration applying pressure to those with opposing views is nothing new and entirely in accord with the behaviour of Obama's political role models Fidel Castro, Joe Stalin and Idi Amin. The US government's recent admission that it has prsued a policy of targeting of conservatives through the IRS is a recent example of Obama's tyrannical tendencies and an indication that Obama's dream of turning the USA into a dystopian failed state that would not look out of place in Africa will continue if the anointed successor Hillary Clinton managed to survive the challenges of Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump and (with help from the Department Of Justice) the attentions of the FBI.

This push by state Attorney Generals to go after Exxon on climate change (a plan they surely did not think of by themselves), has prompted five US senators to send a letter to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch demanding that in two weeks, the Department of Justice "immediately cease its ongoing use of law enforcement resources to stifle private debate on one of the most controversial public issues of our time - climate change." Or put another way, to cease and desist from pursuing a government - led witch hunt against opponents of failed - president Obama's energy agenda.

As Breitbart comments, the five republican Senators warned the DOJ her that any improper assertion of federal investigatory or prosecution power is an abuse of power. Well yeah, but isn't abuse of power what wannabe fascist tyrants like Obama do best?
