AfD Support Surges In German Regional Elections As Establishment Parties Humiliated

 

After exit polls on the Mecklenberg-Vorpommern and Berlin state elections predicted another humiliation for the CDU led coalition government, hapless German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has vowed to stay in office promising to drive future-proofing economic changes through the legislative process and so halt the rise of the so called 'far right' AfD party despite heavy losses for his conservatives in two state elections, one to the far right and the other to Die Linke, a left-wing extremist party.

Preliminary projections suggested Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), for decades Germany'd dominant party,  may struggle to reach the 5 per cent threshold to enter the state parliament in the coastal region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania when the final result is announced. With the result already confidently predicted to be the worst-ever state for the party, failure to gain any representation in the state parliament would be a disaster a for the CDU / CSU partnership and could easily trigger moved for force Merz to resign..

The anti-immigration, Eurosceptic Alternatif for Germany (AfD) party, recent victors in the Saxony - Anhalt election extended a streak of strong showings by coming in first in the former East German region with nearly 38 per cent, more than doubling its previous score.

In the capital, Berlin, one of Germany’s 16 federal states, the Left party (Die Linke) looked on course to win with about 25 per cent of the vote, ahead of the incumbent CDU by a five-point margin. The AfD made headway there too, with a clear double-digit result.

Merz blamed the polarisation of German society and a “harshening of the political debate” for his failure to pass key reforms on the economy and to stop the rise of the AfD which has been branded a threat to democracy. Merz and his party in collaboration with the socialist SDP party have tried to use this to have AfD banned from the democratic process. On that evidence it is clearly Merz and his coalition partners who pose the threat of a return to fascism in Germany though similar moves are apparent in Britain and throughout Europe.

However he and his two predecessors' suicidal immigration policies, commitment to Loonytoons energy policy in pursuit of Net Zero and  failures to respond to changing economic conditions and  to first close the borders and control illegal immigration against and then to deport fake refugees and asylum seekers, (in reality economic migrants seeking an easy life provided by one of Europe's most generous welfare benefit systems,)  are responsible for the polarisation of German society and the rise of the AfD.

Voters cannot be expected to support a party that virtually invited foreigners to invade their country. Merkel should have resisted the urge to regress back into the dutiful daughter of a Luthern pastor who couldn't restrain herself from issuing a "come one and all" invitation to all suffering souls on earth, and instead fulfilled her adult responsibilities as the PM the citizens had entrusted with both their own welfare and that of their country. The party that refused to rein her in should have expected to become a pariah after the damage its inaction caused finally became painfully obvious.

Palantir's Vision Of A Tech Republic - A Progressive Promised Land or Technofascist Dystopia

 

The US spy tech company (yes that's what they are, AI spies,) Palantir in a bid to promote a book, Tech Republic, witten by Alex Karp its founder, CEO and wannabe pan - galactic evil emperor, published via the company account on X, a manifesto extolling the benefits of American power, predicting a future global technocratic dictatorship and implying some cultures are inferior to others – in what UK Members of Parliament from across the political spectrumPs have called “a parody of a RoboCop film” and “the ramblings of a supervillain”.

“Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive,”  Palantir stated in the 22-point manifesto post on X last week. Well there's nothing works as well as stating the blindingly effing obvious when you're trying to imprss gullible people. The manifesto also called for an end to the “postwar neutering” of Germany and Japan whatever that is.

The post called on the US to reinstate a military draft, saying that “free and democratic societies” need “hard power” in order to prevail. Karp's vision of a free and democratic world involves mass surveillance, facial recognition and AI systems fingering potential criminals so they can be arrested before they can commit any crimes.

It also predicted a future dominated by autonomous weapons: “The question is not whether AI weapons will be built; it is who will build them and for what purpose. Our adversaries will not pause to indulge in theatrical debates about the merits of developing technologies with critical military and national security applications. They will proceed.”

The pronouncement is the most recent of a number of high-profile statements from Palantir and its chief billionaire psychopath who views himself as not simply the head of an artificial intelligence technology  company, but a pundit with important insights into the future of civilisation. Other people whose intelligence is grounded in reality might think he's simply an arse.

Palantir's business model is based on 'scraping' data from all internet connected ststems to build 'large language models' from which the fake intelligence of Artificial Intelligence povides themeans through which authoritarian regimes can control us. The rise of Palantir equals the death of privacy.

The Boggart Bloggers view is that he is trying to get himself into a quasi - political group we often refer to, The Billionaire Pychopaths World Doination Club, an exclusive society forthose incredibly rich individuals who presume their combined wealth can create the technocratic dictatorship they dream of and guarantee them a place on its managing committee. 

In the Palantir “manifesto” we see predictions of the culmination of a US political economy that’s been in global domination overdrive since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The imperialist wars abroad for global hegemony are the flip side of the war against democratic rights/working conditions at home. 

To us ordinary folk who live lives untroubled by megalomaniacal desires for world domination, this ‘manifesto’ reads  more like dystopian fiction than a route map to the promised land. In this age of ‘the tyranny of capital’, it is merely a handbook for how best to hsupport the insane oligarchic class usurp to themselves even more power over the minutae of our lives, contol of wealth ,and the corresponding immiseration of the masses which must accompany it.

Having Demonised Cigarettes, Health Fascists Have Alcohol In Their Sights

 

Global health fascists sem to have decided their New Year Resolution for 2025 is to demonise alcohol in the way they have demonised tobacco over the past few decades. A new  campaign aimed at highlighting the link between alcohol and cancer. is being planned and will be abbounced soon we have heard. The driving force behind this mantra of misery is the soon-yo-be-ex US Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy (pity his name isn't ‘Murphy,’ he'd have a very different outlook if it was,), who says that there is no safe level of alcohol, even the one glass of red wine per day that is often proclaimed as health-giving and life-prolonging.

Mr O'Miserybollocks wants the public to be aware that alcohol causes cancer and is, allegedly, responsible for 20,000 deaths annually in the United States. Alcohol-related cancer, therefore, kills 0.006 per cent of Americans per year. To put that in perspective, dementia kills 0.09 per cent of Americans per year and heart disease 0.21 per cent. Similar ratios of UK and EU citizens are similarly affected.

There is no doubt about the existence of a link between alcohol and cancer, the demon drink  is known to be a contributory factor in seven types of cancer including breast, mouth, throat, pancreatic and liver. But, without appearing too flippant, with approximately 200,500,000 Americans consuming alcohol and only 20,000 per year dying from cancer related to that drinking, and likewise 300,000,000 Europeans and 45 million Britons regularly enjoying a bevvy or two, with similar fatality rates, it could be said that an overwhelming proportion of people who drink alcohol do not die of cancer related to their consumption. Of course, they might fall downstairs, crash their car or get into a fatal scrap. But so might many teetotallers. And of course nobody has done any research into what proportion of non drinkres kill themselves / other people because they can't think of any other way to relieve the boredom.

Miseryguts Murthy wants to make the labels on booze bottles more explicit about the dangers. Currently US containers carry warnings about alcohol-related birth defects and not operating machinery while under the influence. In the UK we have a warning about birth defects in the form of a cryptic depiction of a pregnant woman (could be a man, of course) with a red cross, often jokingly misinterpreted as a warning that drinking may lead to pregnancy although if pregnancy reults from a drinking session it indicates that the male involved has not drunk enough..

Dr Murthy has not specified how ‘informative’ the labels should be but I imagine he has in mind a campaign similar to the one whereby all cigarette packets in the US must carry explicit colour pictures related to tobacco-related cancers. We followed suit in the UK. In Australia they send the anti-smoking message so strongly that you can barely tell which brand of cigarettes you are buying, so festooned is the packet with pathological images. These draconian laws about cigarette packaging do not apply to contrabnd cigarettes smuggled in from Eastern Europe and North Africa and are sold outside or often in pubs by shifty looking men who carry large backpacks. Word on the street has it that most cigarettes consumed in the UK now are marketed through this tyupe of operation.

But what has Murthy has in mind for wine bottles? Given the almost evangelical fervour of the extreme elements of the health promotion brigade, we can well imagine that it is. The wine label business is competitive and can be lucrative. A well-designed label can cost upwards of $1,000 but some of the best labels are described as priceless.

Can we look forward to our admiration of the artwork on the label of an expensive bottle of wine being ruined by the inclusion of depictions of cancerous tissues and dying alcoholics? Will the tasting notes referring to ‘hints of cinnamon’ and ‘notes of lime and melon’ with a ‘fragrant finish’ have to include information on how much you will increase your chances of popping your clogs from breast/mouth/throat/liver cancer if iyou pop the cork and have a sip? It is more than likely they will.

In the duing days of the abysmal Biden administration Murthy has thrown down a gauntlet for the Trump administration to pick up, or not. The incoming President is teetotal and his chosen Health Secretary, Robert Kennedy Jr, is a recovering alcoholic but as libertarians it's more likely they will stick with warning about alcoholism and let people make up their own minds. After all populism is all about being popular and busybodies, especially in government, have never been popular.

They may realise that, while alcohol can be dangerous and there is no definable safe level this is because as individuals we have a wide range of tolerances, as is described in Monty Python's Philosopher Song:

Were all the great philosophers really drunks? Sorry, no idea but most of us are aware that alcohol is enjoyed by billions of people around the world, mostly in moderation. It is a relaxant, a social mixer and the alcohol industry supports millions of jobs worldwide. If there is ‘no safe level’, the Vivek Murthys of this world presumably envisage zero tolerance and wish to ban consumption completely, akin to the campaign against tobacco.his is because they are contol freaks, a highly dangerous addiction from which there is no cure.

As Homer Simpson said, alcohol is ‘the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems’. It may, indeed, be the cause of a few problems but some of our major national and international problems are currently coming from adherents to a religion that prohibits alcohol. One is bound to wonder: Could there be a link?
