Market Panic As US Banking Crisis Spreads

After the dramatic collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) at the end of last week, the biggest US bank failure since 2008, governments and regulators around the world are running around in headless chicken mode, trying to find a way to avoid a descent into turmoil throughout the banking sector and head off any further bank runs as depositors get their money out while they can.

Already, with regional bank First Republic following SVB into insolvency, panic in the market has seen a third  bank in the US fall into the arms of regulators: New York-based Signature Bank, with assets of $110bn, was seized on Sunday night, becoming the third largest bank failure in US history.

In the US, the Fed on Sunday guaranteed all SVB deposits and launched an emergency lending facility, while President Joe Biden pledged to do “whatever is needed” to protect deposits.

After the dramatic collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) last week – the biggest US bank failure since 2008 – governments and regulators around the world are scrambling to avoid a spiral into turmoil and stem contagion.

Already, panic in the market has seen a second bank in the US fall into the arms of regulators: New York-based Signature Bank, with assets of $110bn, was seized on Sunday night, becoming the third largest bank failure in US history.

 US central bank, The Federal Reserve, guaranteed all SVB deposits on Sunday and launched an emergency lending facility, while President Joe Biden pledged to do “whatever is needed” to protect deposits. We can excuse Dementia Joe of course, but every senior banker, accountant, economist and political policy maker ought to be fired if they don't know what is needed. The question that needs to be asked is why these wombat felchers did not do what was clearly needed, long ago.

What confuses global policymakers so much?

The banks create the money first, and then they have to get it back again. Global policymakers don’t notice the claim on future spending power piling up in the banking system.

The banks create the money for loans to buy assets. They do this by turning a claim on future earnings into an asset. As a business banking manager for a major UK bank I created £millions by lending my clients money. Every £ I loaned made the bank £1 richer. The assets sit on one side of the balance sheet and the loans on the other. If anyone defaults the bank can repossess that asset to recoup the money. Everything balances and the system is fine, unless the person negotiating the loan miscalculates the risk and lends money secured against a worthless asset.

Central bankers provide easy money to prop up the markets by issuing treasury bonds at low interest rates. Everything is still fine. Central banks stop providing easy money to prop up the markets. Borrowers can no longer borrown more to cover their interest payments on existing loans. Asset prices fall and suddenly a bank's liabilities are greater than its assets. Nobody wants to buy debt when the debtor cannot pay the interest due and black holes start opening up in the banking system.

The effects are far reaching, Bank credit effectively brings future spending power into today.

Money and debt come into existence together and disappear together like matter and anti-matter. Bank loans create money and debt repayments to banks destroy money. Bank loans create 97% of the money supply

Bank credit effectively brings future spending power into today. They create the money out of nothing for you to spend today, and you make the repayments in the future. When you make the repayments, this destroys money. Interest is the charge you pay for the service of borrowing your own money from the future.

Early success can be achieved at the expense of an impoverished future. Global policymakers just don’t notice the claims on future spending power piling up in the banking system.

Obviously what needs to be done to get us out of the boom and bust cycle is a reform of the regulatory system to ensure that loans are properly secured against real assets with real value and not against fairy dust.

By destroying the two Nordstream pipelines, the United States broke the German and by extension European economy. They did this deliberately.

In Dubai, I was speaking with an escapee from Germany — a very wealthy industrialist, and what he told me was interesting and has been corroborated by many similar discussions.

Germany doesn’t want to fight Russia. Europeans don’t want to fight Russia. Their leadership is doing their damndest to drum up support for it, but on the ground Europe doesn’t want it. This makes perfect sense. Wars are fought by young ambitious powers. Europe is an old man.

Most telling however is that, as this man put it, “How can you believe America is your ally?”

Now, consider all of this just as Seymour Hersh published his research on the Nord Stream pipeline bombings. Here’s his extensive piece on the bombing.

Subsequently, we’ve been subjected to watching the captured media whores scrambling to discredit him, which simply has the Streisand effect and will only do more damage to their already collapsing credibility.

I mention this not only because the bombing was an act of war against both Russia but also against Germany.

Despite what the lamestreet media may be yabbering on about those in positions of power and influence will realise what has happened.

The distrust level will be rising and at some point here, the splintering of Europe will go hyperbolic.

U S Regional Bank First Republic Crashes As America's Banking 'Crisis In Confidence' Becomes Contagious

Shares in America's First Republic Bank's crashed when the New York stock market opened for trading this morning. The crash was triggered by a statement issued on Sunday night that sought to ease investor worries about the bank's liquidity situation in the wake of the failure of Silicon Valley Bank. Shares in the San Francisco based regional bank are down 60% on last week's close.

Customers queue outside a First Republic branch hoping to get at least some of their money out.

In the Sunday night statement the bank claimed that it had more than $70 billion in unused liquidity to fund operations from agreements that included the Federal Reserve and JPMorgan Chase & Co.

"The additional borrowing capacity from the Federal Reserve, continued access to funding through the Federal Home Loan Bank, and ability to access additional financing through JPMorgan Chase & Co.increases, diversifies, and further strengthens First Republic's existing liquidity profile," the bank said, adding that more liquidity is available through the Fed's new lending facility. 

Unfortunately this information, coming only days after Silicon Valley Bank had issued similar assurances shortly before being declared insolvent, failed to assure investors and depositors.

Bloomberg's Ven Ram opined, "The plunge in its shares is classic market psychology at work, with investors starting to question the credentials of any lender that may be remotely in the same category of Silicon Valley Bank," . 

Zero Hedgepointed out over the weekend, "as a result of the SVB failure - one look at what is already taking place at some smaller, vulnerable banks such as this First Republic Branch in Brentwood should be sufficient to see what comes to morrow if the Fed makes the wrong decision today."

Despite the emergency lending program announced by the Fed and Treasury on Sunday to increase the availability of funds to meet bank withdrawals and prevent runs on other banks, fears have not been alleviated as other regional banks, which are sitting on some $620 billion in unrealized losses on all securities (both Available for Sale and Held to Maturity) at the end of last year, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp," continue to experience significant pressure."

How was this allowed to happen? I worked in a British financial institution and do not claim great expertise in the American way of doing things but one flaw in U.S. corporate law allows companies to skew their balance sheet with outmoded accounting methods which maintain asset values at the original level rather than using the more modern, (and better suited to current financial volatility,) mark to market, in which market values current at the closing of an accounting period are used. Thus a company may claim $100 billion in assets against only $75 billion in liabilities, but when assets are calculated to market values only have assets with actual worth of $70 billion thus being insolvent.

Silicon Valley Bank Collapse: Get Woke Go Broke

 

Collapsed tech industry lender Silicon Valley, which collapsed last week as borrowers defaulted on loans and investors withdrew funds is proof of the mantra: Get Woke, Go Broke. News emerging from the wreckage reveals that the  Bank operated without a chief risk officer between April 2022 and January 2023 while the operation's United Kingdom-based CRO stands accused of prioritizing pro-diversity initiatives over her actual role.

This revelation comes after the firm,, which ceased trading on Friday 10 March, became the largest bank to collapse since the 2008 financial crisis - disclosing a $1.8 billion loss in its finances. The news is expected to trigger chaos when stock markets resume trading on Monday.

Last Thursday, March 9, Founders Fund, a prominent venture capital firm founded by billionaire investor Peter Thiel advised its companies to move their funds out of SVB, according to one person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing private information.

SVB Financial Group Chief Executive Greg Becker held a conference call on the same day advising clients of SVB-owned Silicon Valley Bank to “stay calm” amid concern about the bank’s financial position, according to another person familiar with the matter.

Becker held the roughly 10-minute call about 11:30 a.m. Pacific time. He asked the bank’s clients, including venture capital investors, to support the bank the way the bank has backed its customers over the last 40 years, according to the person.

Worries surrounding the lender ricocheted around Silicon Valley on Thursday. There is “a good deal of panic,” said Jenny Fielding, managing partner at the fund, which invests in early-stage companies.

SVB's former head of risk, Laura Izurieta, who formerly performed a similar role for Capital One, left the bank in April 2022. She wasn't replaced until January 2023 when the bank hired Kim Olson, formerly of Japanese bank Sumitomo Mitsui.

But the story here is not the change of personnel, it is that after Izurieta left, SVB's Chief Risk Officer's office in the bank's Santa Clara headquarters stood empty, instead of overseeing and managing risks associated with SVB's European, African and Middle Eastern portfolios, the nominal deputy CRO, Jay Ersapah -- a self-described "queer person of color from a working-class background" -- was busy organising an assortment of woke programs, including a month long LGBT Pride event as she co-chaired SVB's "European LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group."   

On taking over the role of CRO in January, Kim Olsen said, "SVB has an impressive track record of sound growth and remaining true to its strategy of serving the innovation economy. I am excited to lead SVB’s outstanding risk management team and continue to build SVB’s risk management framework and capabilities in this important next chapter of the firm’s trajectory," 

Just six weeks later the bank went broke. For the sake of fairness we must assume Olsen was given misleading information in the handover from her predecessor.

The bank's CEO Greg Becker credited Olson's 'deep and multi-faceted financial services experience as a senior risk leader and former regulator and bank supervisor positions her perfectly to actively manage SVB’s financial and non-financial risks.'

Obviously Kim was not fully conversant with the risks of taking over a job from an LGBTQWERTYIA activist whose priorities were noting to do with the company or its business. In fact in naming Ersapah as a top 100 LGTBQ Future Leader, professional network Outstanding said: 

'Jay is a leading figure for the bank’s awareness activities including being a panelist at the SVB’s Global Pride townhall to share her experiences as a lesbian of color, moderating SVB’s EMEA Pride townhall and was instrumental in initiating the organization's first ever global "safe space catch-up", supporting employees in sharing their experiences of coming out,' her bio on the Outstanding website states.

It adds that she is 'allies' with gay rights charity Stonewall and had authored numerous articles to promote LGBTQ awareness.

These included 'Lesbian Visibility Day and Trans Awareness week.' 

Separately she was also praised in a Facebook post by the group 'Diversity Role Models,' a charity which campaigns against homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in UK schools.

While obviously too busy to oversee financial risk exposure, Jay Ersapah found time to run a program for SVB 'non - straight' employees to share their coming out experiences (Picture Daily Mail)

 

The bank's website says that the CRO at the bank reports to a seven-person committee made up of board members and the CEO.  

One would hope other businesses can learn from the SVB collapse and in future ensure they hire only people whose professional focus is on profit and loss rather that LGBTQ awareness and minority rights. A story that was often told when I was studying economics concerned Lord Northcliffe, founder of lowbrow and sensationalist newspaper The Daily Mail which sold for a penny.

When outraged criticts accused Northcliffe of appealing to the lowest levels of society, he reputedly replied: "And why not sirs, their penny is as good as yours and there's a damn sight more of 'em."

New WHO Charter Could Create A Global Authoritarian Regime In The Name Of Health

 

When it was established in 1948, under the auspices of the newly minted United Nations, the purpose of The World Health Organization (WHO) was that it would act as an advisory body in international health matters. Since 2005 however, the WHO has, through the implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR) as the main compliance tool to ensure that public health emergencies would be handled swiftly, established itself as a supra - national political entity. The COVID pandemic perfectly illustrates how powerful the WHO already is in geopolitics. And it is set to become even more powerful.

A new set of amendments (pdf) to the WHO, proposed by the bureaucrats who represent national governments, was published at the end of 2022, with the aim of increasing the WHO’s power under the guise of the IHR. This, in addition to a newly proposed Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) (pdf) and the addition of a pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response treaty, raises several red flags on the changing role of the WHO , from international health advisory body to becoming a global regime using 'public health' as a cover for superseding the sovereignty of elected governments.

Related to these far reaching measures, the WHO has published a number of amendments to the IHR that will strengthen the it’s power considerably pertaining to global health emergencies. For example, the WHO will have the power to act upon potential rather than actual emergencies, and allow the director-general of the WHO control over the production of medication that may be allocated as he or she deems fit.

Corporate War On Individual Freedom

Throughout history, people have relied on connections within their community friends, family, and neighbors to maintain a healthy social life and the wise woman, shaman, priest or order of monks and nuns for medicinal support. Social connections are important not only for physical and mental  wellness but also for building the trust upon which the foundation of relationships lies. We trust our family, friends, neighbours and so will take their word that somebody offering health support is genuine. Just as trust is vital in relationships with family and friends, in regard to health, it is vital in patient-doctor relationships.

Doctors across many countries and diverse regions have a plethora of different methods to treat something as simple as a cold. Some may give you a flu shot, some may prescribe you some minor medication, and some might even tell you to drink hot soup and get lots of rest. There may also be an unfamiliar remedy from Latin America or Southeast Asia that works just as well as something you could pick up in a European or American. pharmacy. .

The one-on-one patient-doctor relationship has traditionally been the tried-and-true way to establish a health system in any society. Even the current over - used 'evidence-based medicine,' advice from the European Medicines Agency, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UK National Health Service and other health agencies serves as nonbinding recommendations to doctors that give them the right to make their own decisions based on their knowledge of the patient. The bond of  trust between doctors and patients has always been considered incorruptible and demands that doctors practice medicine grounded in ethics and based on genuine medical knowledge, skills, and experience—all things that most doctors still have.

Recently however that bond has been shattered by numerous scandals culminating in the ridiculously hyped COVID-19 pandemic and the mRNA non - vaccines that were allowed to sidestep all safety and ethical oversights in the rush to inject the world with a formula that was never going to make people immune to a relatively minor infection with an infection to fatality rate similar to that of any year's seasonal 'flu. 

Drug and vaccine makes, member of the Big Pharma cartel, powerful health agencies headed by nelected bureaucrats, and health insurance enterprises linked to the banking and finance community are all intertwined, forming a tremendous conglomerate of power. In the name of protecting the people, this manifestation of power has reached an unprecedented level, which was on full display during the pandemic in the form of lockdowns, mandates, the rush of drugs and vaccines, insurance policies determining diagnosis, etc. The doctor / patient personal relationship has been totally corrupted by corporate money and political power.

All of this is apparent in the latest latest proposed reforms to the role and powers of the WHO which should raise serious concerns over whether the WHO is turning into a global quasi-regime.

The newest changes to the WHO's constitution are amendments to the International Health Regulations agreement. The World Health Assembly first adopted the IHR in 1969 to cover six diseases and it has since been revised several times.The amendments to IHR will demand WHO member nations detect, assess, report, and respond appropriately in regard to public health emergencies that can spread on an international scale. During the COVID-19 pandemic, especially during its onset, China demonstrated an aptitude for disinformation and a lack of transparency toward the international community with regard to sharing data, allowing a probe into the origins of the virus, and issues involving the most recent unprecedented spike of infections and death after the country lifted its zero-COVID restrictions.

How in hell's name any sane person could think tinkering with regulations will change the behaviour of nations like China, Russia, Iran, Turkey or North Korea (and that's just the usual suspects,) is a mystery. but then when dealing with bureaucrats, sanity to too much to hope for.

One of the major concerns raised by people who have seen early drafts of the amendments is that the WHO is giving itself the authority to override health measure decisions made by individual nations and grant the organization the capacity to censor what it considers misinformation and disinformation, should the amendments be adopted. This is a serious threat to the sovereignty of every WHO member and, given the lies we have been sold throughout the three years of the COVID fiasco, the safety of every individual living in WHO member states.

At the same time, the WHO’s new amendments change the advisory nature of the IHR to that of law, meaning that the organization will hold just as much power—if not more—as the state legeislature of any mmber state's elected government with legally binding jurisdiction and enforcement capabilities.

These fears are even more worrying because the amendments are vague in nature and leave much room for interpretation. For example, the amendments do not specify the amount of funding countries need to contribute, which could lead to an escalation of corruption in underdeveloped countries.

Another astounding change in the proposal is the removal of “respect for the dignity, human rights, and fundamental freedoms of persons” in Article 3 of the IHR, being replaced with the meaningless terms “equity” and “inclusivity.” Echoes there of demented Joe Biden's idiotic exhortation to Americans to get the vaccine, "Nobody is safe until we re all safe," indicating that the vaccines would not protect against infection, (because of course, if the vaccines worked the vaccinated would have nothing to fear from contact with an unvaccinated person.)

Like buses, you wait over six months for Office for National Statistics (ONS) data and then two publications come along within weeks. On February 21st 2023 it released its deaths by vaccination status data set and on Wednesday it looked at ‘COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness estimated using Census 2021 variables, England: March 31st 2021 to March 20th 2022’.

There has been lots of analysis of the February publication so today I will look at the latest ‘vaccine effectiveness’ data.

But to give you a heads-up, it’s good news – take as many jabs as you can and your life will be extended! We are witnessing the results of a miracle cure. Squirt some in the eyes of a blind man and I wouldn’t be surprised if he could see again.

According to the latest data, vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation for Covid was 52.2% for one dose, 55.7% for a second dose and 77.6% after your booster.

US Invested in mRNA Vaccines for Decades Pre-Pandemic: Study

In the first study to systematically examine the public investments in mRNA vaccines, researchers have found that the U.S. government was substantially invested in mRNA vaccine technology before the COVID pandemic.

Published in the British Medical Journal on March 1, the study found that the government invested $31.9 billion in mRNA vaccines and technologies between 1985 and 2022, of which at least $337 million was invested pre-pandemic.

The government also paid $31.6 billion during the pandemic for vaccine research, production, and vaccines for all Americans, as well as for global donations.

The vast pool of funding has netted Moderna and Pfizer over $100 billion in revenue from sales of COVID-19 vaccines since their launch, an amount 20 times greater than the total budget of the World Health Organization (WHO) for 2020-21.

Altogether, the researchers identified 34 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants that were directly related to mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.

They also identified contracts issued by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) and the Department of Defense.

“[This is] the largest public investment for a disease ever,” Hussain Lalani, a fellow at Harvard Medical School and lead author of the study said.

COVID ‘Not Deadly Enough’ To Justify Risk Of Fast-track Vaccines, Chris Whitty Told Government

The Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty, told the government that COVID is not deadly enough to justify the risk of fast-track vaccines. COVID-19 was not dangerous enough to justify cutting short vaccine trials as the vaccine had to be “very safe”, Chris Whitty advised the Government in the early weeks of the outbreak, it has emerged. Writing on WhatsApp on February 29th 2020, the Chief Medical Officer told Government figures: “For a disease with a low (for the sake of argument 1%) mortality a vaccine has to be very safe so the safety studies can’t be shortcut. So important for the long run.” The estimate of 1% turned out to be an overestimate, as the infection fatality rate in Europe and the Americas was found to be 0.3-0.4%. Chief Scientist Patrick Vallance agreed with this advice and wrote that existing drugs should be relied on instead: “Agree, existing drugs best things to try for this outbreak. Transsexual cosplay has somehow become the reigning social issue of our era, with trans activism taking precedence within government, public schools and even the corporate world. For reasons that defy logic the question of “trans rights” has superseded all other conflicts regarding civil liberties. A group that comprises less than 0.5% of the US population has been dictating the national discussion.

Not only that, but there is reasonable suspicion that a majority of these people are not actually “trans” but are simply joining what they see as an opportunistic trend. Perhaps it’s to get attention they feel they are entitled to. Perhaps it is a way to feel as if they are a part of something historically meaningful as they do little else with their lives. Perhaps it is a play to get special treatment and special protection under victim group status.

Becoming trans is, after all, the easiest way for an otherwise straight white person to climb to the top of the oppression totem pole.  And in a world where being a victim is a currency, that’s a highly valuable option.

Amid Latest Attempts To Spin Defeat As Victory, NATO Proaganda Revives Tge Old Yellow Peril Scare

 

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reported this weekend that China could be on the verge of providing “lethal” support to Russia. In comments to CBS, Blinken said that such aid would cause a “very serious problem” between the U.S. and China. If China provided arms, it would still not overcome serious problems in the Russian military, and Beijing would directly position itself as an adversary of the West.

Appearing on Face the Nation, Blinken asserted that China has already provided “non-lethal support” to Russia 's military campaign in Ukraine. The aid was provided by Chinese companies, but as Blinken noted, “there’s really no distinction between private companies and the state in China, the concern that we have now is based on information from our intelligence services is that they’re considering providing lethal support.”

A White House spokesperson added that if weapons and ammunition are supplied by China for use against Ukraine, "The west will punish China accordingly."

This same 'west' as is going to punish China if it crosses the wobbly and constantly changing redline drawn by Joe Biden (with wife Jill guiding his hand of course,) has over the past twenty five years been infiltrated by the Chinese at all levels. Starting with the offshoring of a majority of our manufacturing industry as political leaders fell over themselves to pander to the communists and misantropes of the Green lobby, we also exported our advanced technology and know-how there. And at the same time China accrued vast amounts of US, EU and UK debt buy buying the treasury bonds that were issued will nilly to fund ridiculously generous welfare and foreign aid policies impemented by virtue signalling left wing politicians.

This punishment on China is to be delivered by the same west that did and does nothing as China builds a worldwide empire (even under the nose of the US in Middle America and Caribbean ) gaining military control step by step over all major shipment routes (ever thought of a Chinese military base at the Falklands just as in Djibouti or Sri Lanka and others), has bought up most of the world's major mines and so on. The west is not even capable of enhancing production of one sort of ammunition  for a war which has lasted a year now. It needs a half a year to organise itself get the heavy battle tanks pledged to Ukraine out of their depots and then half another year until they are refitted for usage:

How successful does anyone think 'the west' can be in punishing China, even in the USA, NATO members and outlying farmsteads like Australia and Japan can get thir arses in gear and actually agre on what to do? 

And should they ever be in a state of readiness to act, they need to be minful of the fact that China is not Russia, and that Russia, so far, has been very restrained in its war in Ukraine. If Moscow had adopted NATO tactics for overthrowing governments it does not like, carpet bombing, use of depleted uranium shells, shock and awe bombardments etc. the only reason that Ukraine would not have been reduced to a bankrupt, corrupt, lawless failed state like Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya by now is that it had been a bankrupt, corrupt, lawless failed state since the US led coup of 2014 replaced a democratically elected government with a pro - western, neo - Nazi regime.
