We Must Hope Mad Ed's Move To The Foreign Office Will Mean The End Of UK Governmednt's Net Zero Obsession

A decade ago, the leaders of the UK's three main political parties, David Cameron (Conservative), Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrat) and Ed Miliband (Labour) signed a pledge that effectively moved the issue of climate and energy policy out of the democratic process.

Although it was not yet enshrined in law, this agreement opened the way for Theresa May to set the Net Zero target in 2019. We were quickly followed down the road to economic disaster by the EU which implemented restrictive laws on climate, energy security and farming. By 2021, our envoy to COP26, Alok Sharma was gleefully blowing up coal-fired power stations and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was boasting of aligning £130 trillion of the world’s financial assets with the Paris Agreement climate goals, or what we might now see as western economic suicide. 

Worse, people well qualified to criticise the crap science behind net zero were cancellled, hounded out of their jobs abd profesions and destroyed if the deviated from the official line on net zero. Fast forward to 2024 and Reform based their General Election campaign on a platform of ditching Net Stupid Zero. The pushback towards common sense did not stop there, earlier this year the current Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch, signalled that the Tories no longer believed Net Zero was achievable by 2050. 

The number of journalists writing about the follies of Net Zero and UK energy policy grown (from almost net xero,) nd scientists were no longer being cancelled for expressing scepticism about the reliability of mathematical models on which the whole climate change case is built. The Net Zero juggernaut no longer looked impregnable, cracks were beginning to appear but progress was slow. Towards the end of 2025 however, Ms Badenoch announced that the Conservative Party plans to repeal the Climate Change Act, which underpins all the Net Zero nonsense.

They have also committed to abolish the Climate Change Committee. And now Mad Ed Milliband, the swivel eyed fanatic who had emerged as leader of the Net Zero cult after being deposed as Labour leader, and in 2024 had become Secretary for Energy and Net Zero in a newly elected Labour government under the hapless Keir Starmer, has been moved to another department in government and the Labour government under a new leader (Andy Burnham,) and with a new, more sane Energy Secretary seem to be embracing the Drill Baby Drill approach to energy secuity. 

In the USA Donald Trump, elected for a second term much to the disgust of lefties and progressives, revered many of the net zero policied of the previous deomcrat aministration and EU member states becant to rebel over draconian measures to force adoption of net zero policies as the disintegration of the climate catastrophe hoax gained momentum.

It is interesting that this change of heart has come from people who have largely never had to wonder about the engineering marvels that had tooccur behind the scenes to ensure the lights stayed on when they turned on their cookers. Perhaps the blackout in Spain and Portugal earlier this year has focused minds on the dangers of too many intermittent renewables on the grid.

We can now, with our national grid under extreme stress on low wind days and imports of electricity vial undersea cables from France, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Norway regularly running at between 20%vand 30% of total UK demans, see that the empty rhetoric of the “Saudi Arabia of Wind” and “Green Energy Superpower” was the triumph of narrative over numbers and optics over substance. These people in wonk-land never had to worry about choosing between heating or eating; were not concerned about increasing energy debt and were totally at ease as heavy industry collapsed. They are ignorant of maths; the closest they have ever come to imaginary numbers is the increasingly implausible cost estimates from the CCC. They are also ignorant of economics as they clapped like seals at the “nine times cheaper than gas” mantra. We should welcome their Damascene conversion but be cautious that their new message might be just as fickle as the old.

As the case for Net Zero crumbles more with every missile fired across the Strait of Hormuz and Kemi’s Conservatives become more scetical of climare science every day Ed Miliband’s claim that Nigel Farage and Reform are “investment crushing, job destroying, bill raising, poverty driving, science denying, Putin appeasing, young people betraying bunch of ideological extremists”. Ironically this description is a far better fit on Ed's fanatical Climate Catastrophe cultists.

I think this is what psychologists call projection. Miliband is accusing his opponents of wanting to do the very same things he is already doing himself. Jim Ratcliff’s INEOS has ended all UK investment because of Net Zero policies pushing up taxes onNorth Sea oil and gas and expensive energy prices. This, of course, destroys jobs too. Miliband is pushing up bills by pressing ahead with Allocation Round 7, extending contracts to 20 years and offering prices that are much more expensive than gas-fired generation, and of course high bills drive poverty. Miliband denies the physics of intermittent renewables and seems totally unaware of the laws of thermodynamics.

Net Zero is not achievable without the huge amounts of copper needed for the cabling, grid equipment, motors, machines, appliances, etc for an all-electric economy/society Worldwide.

Copper needs copper ore and it is estimated that near 700 million tons of ore would be required over the next twenty years – about the same amount mined to date since copper was first invented as a resource by Man.

The biggest indicator in the market place is price – it tells among other things the relationship between supply and demand.

Were Net Zero achievable and on-course, the demand for things made with copper, thus copper, thus copper ore would be huge, and prices of ore would be climbing exponentially.

But that is not the case. In fact ore prices have been easing, showing that supply and demand are about balanced.

Price says, no Net Zero.

This was completely foreseeable. The only way to achieve anything close to “net zero” is to impoverish the British people. The only way people will accept being impoverished is if the government becomes tyrannical.We are talking about real impoverishment here, not just one fewer holiday per year and a smaller car. New Zero would rationing and surveillance at levels worse than those during the Second World War.

All of this should have been foreseen by our political leaders, scientists and opinion shapers and by by anyone with an IQ higher than the average brigk.

Since the people who lead us, the scientists who advise them and the propagandists who shape opinion have IQ's far higher than the average individual (allegedly,) we can only assume that they put personal and class interests ahead of the interests of the British people.

The UK establishment cares about its own power and influence, not just in Britain but around the world. It will sacrifice whoever it needs to sacrifice in order to maintain that power and influence, as it has always done.

Climate change policy has been led by the UK in alliance with the part of the US establishment that it has historically had influence over.

It’s a con job the sole purpose of which has been to try to neutralise the power and influence that oil and gas confers to the nations that have it. Our establishment used to control the oil and gas in the world and have fought hard over the decades to maintain that control. When it was no longer possible, they came up with climate change.

They literally couldn’t care less who they impoverished in the process. UK establishment figures think that those in the population that don’tagree with their ideas – NetZero, mass immigration.- are ignorant scum. They pretty much say it openly when the've had a few beers or done a line or two.

Can Bus Sized Lithium Ion Batteries Power Britain

Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the pretty, peaceful English village of Granborough, Berkshire, has been around for over a thousand years without ever making the headlines on national news although it was mentioned in one of the James Bond films.

All that could be about to change however, the village has been identified as the potential site for not one, but two giant battery installations, "each capable of storing 10.6 Gw," according to the pre - publicity, and a solar farm.Energy companies Statera and Statkraft have applied for planning permission to build two 500-megawatt sites near a new electricity substation, arguing that the plan is needed to facilitate the transition to a decarbonised electricity grid.

The project has, predictably, provoked local opposition. “This might become an industrial area more than the farming land it’s been for the last thousand years,” says Jamie Ingham Clark, of the Claydons Solar Action Group, “Battery storage sites should be on brownfield – they should not take away our ability to grow food.”

Campaigners say they are particularly concerned about fire risk from the batteries, after a major fire at a facility in Liverpool four years ago.

However, they are fighting a David and Goliath style battle.

Across the UK, giant battery installations are being proposed as investors seek to capitalise on Labour’s plan to decarbonise the grid with a wind and solar boom.

The Myth Of Unlimited Cheap Green Power Is Falling Apart

Wind is by far the cheapest form of power and will us a cheap, plentiful electricity far into the future as we can see. We know this is the unquestionable truth because the green blog, the government, mainstream media and that strange, quasi - religious cult The Science tell us so. 

But all this goes against common sense because one does not need to be an engineer or scientist to observe that wind turbines cannot generate electricity when there in no (or too little wind,) and thus the initial capital investment, plus maintenance and transportation (via cables,) costs drives up the price wind farm operators must charge in order to be profitable. 

In the words of Tom Glover, chair of energy company RWE’s UK arm, last week: "No more offshore wind farms will be built unless the Government hikes the guaranteed long-term prices offered to their operators by as much as 70 per cent." 

The energy “market” is not really much of a market at all, not when it comes to green energy. The Government underwrites wind and solar through “contracts for difference” – guaranteeing operators a minimum “strike price”, rising with inflation, for every megawatt-hour of electricity they generate over 15 years. Regulations also coerce suppliers into prioritising buying wind and solar sourced energy over gas, nuclear and coal derived sources. 

The problem now is that wind farm owners and operators will no longer accept the prices offered by government. Last time the Government held an auction for the right to build offshore wind farms, in September, not a single bid was submitted. The maximum strike price the Government offered was £44 per MWh. According to RWE it won’t receive any bids until this is raised to between £65 and £75. 

When we are told almost every day by green blob activists and disciples of The Science that the cost of wind energy is to be falling year on year surely we are entitled to ask WTF is going on. In truth costs were falling then worsening economic conditions, higher commodity prices and rising interest rates, together with reductions in government subsidies for 'green' electricity derailed the plan to lull us into a false sense of security before hitting us with the true cost of green energy and the rest of the 'net zero' lunacy when all the gas, nuclear and coal generating capacity had been decommissioned and there were no alternatives left.

  It is worth noting that with renewable energy, most of the costs come upfront – which makes it particularly reliant on cheap debt.  But this is only half the story. If we are going to have a grid based on intermittent renewables, it is no use looking just at the cost of generation. We have to add on the cost of energy storage, or some other kind of back-up – or else build so many wind and solar farms that we have just enough power at the worst of times, and a super-abundance of it at other times. All are likely to be horrendously expensive. 

Storing energy in lithium batteries, for example, can cost around six times as much as generating it in the first place. Using gas as back-up – as we do now – means we have gas power stations sitting idle for some periods, pushing up the unit cost of generation when they are needed. 'Renewables' cannot be manufactured, installed and maintained without a fully operational fossil-fuel based energy system. In effect they're just an offshoot of the Oil and Coal business, and can exist only as long as we continue to produce fossil fuels. 

Furthermore the Net Zero concept is itself a deluded concept based on faulty politicised pseudo science and is neither achievable nor desirable.The carbon trading schemes are an attempt at global control ,taxation and resdistribution by the back door and as for carbon capture - it is a loony idea that would result in a reduction in the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere over time with disastrous results if we continued to use fossil fuels - which of course we are going to do. 

The question we should be asking is why have a plan for net zero at all? The climate will change and change again, it is what planet earth does. Thousands of years worth of ice core samples, millions of years worth of fossil and geological records show we have no influence on the climate no matter how arrogantly we think that we have. Keep improving our tech and efficiencies in producing energy and we shall have cleaner air to breath and cheaper power so that everyone benefits. Don’t beggar ourselves back to the stone age, only the vested interests who so cleverly set this particular hare running are reaping the rewards. 

 The seductive femme fatale of Cheap Solar and Wind energy is finally exposed for the old brass she always was. Has anyone with the last vestiges of a brain stopped to think about the most basic drawbacks of 'renewables'? 

The sun goes in at night and really only generates good power for about 60-70% of the day so we need vast , highly expensive, planet raping battery storage and solar panels put in place..

The wind only blows for about a third of the year with sufficient force to generate adequate power (as is explained in detail HERE,). Neither the cost or evironmental damaged involved in installing these huge turbines is never taken into account.

Dam fed water power is useful but rivers only really run at a decent force for about a half of the year - (water level too low.) There is some potential in run of river schemes, placing small turbines horizontally wherever there is a weir or flood control device. 

 Tidal power is also quoted , but the tide moves in and out twice a day - and only generates decent power for about 4 hours for each tide - i.e One third of the day. Tidal barrages such as have been proposed for The Severn Estuary, Cardiff Bay, Morecambe Bay and other tidal inlets could be a valuable resource but the green screamers don't sem able to understand the difference between a barrage and a dam. 

The biggest con perpetrated by our loony lefties , greens, just stop oilers etc. is that wind and solar will replace hydrocarbons as our major fuel source any time soon.

What keeps the lights on when the above " efficient , cheap " sources are not working? When the wind does not blow strongly enough (or too strongly for that matter,) when the sun does not shine (or average for 12 hours a day around the world or is at too oblique an angle to the solar panels (yes we can tilt the panels to catch a bit more sun but we can't tilt the sun to achieve the maximum output rates the green blob base their estimates on.

But what has common sense to do with these overtly favour currying political decisions

The chickens will come to roost this winter. In fact today, 30 October 2023,) at 17:00 hrs with darkness fallen and the sun contributing nothing, all those wonderful wind turbines are generating just 17% of our current electricity need. Gas as usual is doing the spadework and delivering 44% with nuclear on 12%, biomass (woodschips) 6% and good old coal providing 4%. Other sources (mostly hydro,) are chipping in 7% and if you are thinking that does not add up to 100%, the rest is being made up by importing electricity via underrsea cables fron France, Netherlands and Norway. If there is a similar scenario to December last year, when a large area of high pressure caused hard frosts and no wind for the windmills, the National Grid had to pay an extortionate emergency price to get supply to keep the lights on. Whilst demand was 37Gw or more according to the National Grid website, windmills were mostly producing less than 1Gw for days due to associated light winds. This year the back up for wind-power is reduced, and in a similar scenario blackouts are unavoidable. It is only when the lights go out, will people realise they have been conned by Boris Johnson and the Green lobby.

Resistance is growing to spiralling domestic energy costs in Britain as more than 75,000 irritated people in the UK have pledged not to pay their electricity bill this fall when prices jump again.

ordinary people will! Together we can enforce a fair price and affordable energy for all," tweeted "Don't Pay UK," an anonymous group spearheading the effort to have more than one million Brits boycott paying their power bill by Oct. 1.
