Full Russian conquest of Ukraine is possible, claims ISW report

According to a report published by the U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW), should the government of Ukraine's ability to continue the conflict collapse, as seems imminent, the total conquest of Ukraine by Russian military forces would be a real possibility, which would necessitate a huge increase in U.S. military presence in Eastern Europe.

This is warmongering bollocks of course, there is no evidence Russia intends or ever intended to do more that wrest control of Ukraine's Russian speaking provinces from the neo - Nazi government in Kiev. In fact, as this blog has reported on many occasions, in April 2022 both Russia and Ukraine were prepared to negotiate a settlement based on terms brokered by Turkey's President Erdogan, and all Russia wanted was a guarantee that Ukraine would remain neutral and not be granted NATO membership. That potential peace deal which would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives from both sides of the conflict, was scuppered when former UK Prime Minister was sent to Kiev by NATO leaders, principally the USA's Biden administration to tell Ukraine that NATO (America) insisted that on no account could Ukraine negotiate with Russia unless Moscow first agreed to all Kiev's (America's) terms. 

Naturally the Russian's were never going to agree to such a stupid demand and Ukraine was told to fight on.

The White House now says funding for Ukraine has run out and whoever is making decisions for demented geriatric president Joe Biden has been increasing pressure on Congress to pass stalled legislation to support the war against Russia. Meanwhile even the most steadfastly pro - Ukraine sections of mainstream media in the US and Europe, including the Washington Post, New York Times, The Daily Telegraph and The BBC have published content declaring that Russia has won the war and for Ukraine to continue its hopeless war is just a waste of lives.

Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), having assessed the current state of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine are even more dramatic, stating that the complete conquest of Ukraine by Russia is not out of the question. Such a development could lead to significant implications for the United States, including the possible need to deploy forces in Eastern Europe they claim.

The report highlights, without stating as much in plain language, the high stakes for the U.S. in what was never anything other than a proxy war, suggesting that the conflict’s outcomes may have broader consequences than commonly perceived.If the purpose of NATO (America,)  backing Ukraine had been to protect democracy, victory for Russia would be an embarrassment for the USA and NATO, but the real reason for the conflict, which is documented in leaked official correspondence but never mentioned in mainstream media reports was to effect regime change in Russia and ideally prompt the break up of the Russian Federation.

This being the case, defeat for Kiev is defeat for Washington.

The summit’s final text (V6 R 210) indicated that natural gas, which is somewhat less carbon-intensive than oil and coal, can play a part in cutting emissions. It also placed CO2 capture and storage alongside renewables and nuclear as key technologies that would drive the transition. What it did not do was show how the world will transition away from 'fossil fuels' without destroying civilisation, sending most nations back to subsistence farming economies and achieving the true goal of all this climate bollocks, which is of course massive depopulation of the planet.

The areas where Big Oil has been making multibillion dollar bets, and whether they truly complement, or actually contradict the pledge for a lower-carbon world is still open to debate. For natural gas it’s largely a question of timing, and for CCS it’s a matter of technological progress.

“We are not going to win the fight against the climate change if we continue to rely structurally on fossil fuels,” said Tinne Van der Straeten, the energy minister for Belgium which still relies on gas for almost a quarter of its electricity production. “Gas as a transition fuel means that you use it as short as possible.”

He might have a point if anybody had as yet proposed an economically viable and politically acceptable alternative to gas, oil and coal.

Gas has been identified by the industry as the cleanest of fossil fuel since it releases less carbon dioxide than coal or oil when combusted (though we get back to the old problem of the climate change lobby which is that CO2 is not a pollutant but an atmospheric gas essential to the existence of all life forms on earth. However, in many regions it’s also responsible for rampant methane emissions, a greenhouse gas that’s 80 times more potent than CO2 (but actually breaks down in the atmosphere very quickly. The COP28 text included a pledge to reduce methane pollution to near zero by the end of decade, and has been widely endorsed by the fossil fuel industry though again nobody has any idea how this can be done without causing immense damage to economic and social structures.

Before the so called deal, which is not really a deal but a wish list compiled by ecoloon activists, there was already a long-running debate about the role of natural gas in the shift to clean energy. Corporate giants including Shell Plc and Woodside Energy Group Ltd. insist it has a role in providing secure long-term fuel supplies. They are making big investments in new projects to pump gas, which for many companies represents a growing share of their overall fossil fuel production.

The fossil fuel industry had a big presence at the Dubai climate conference, unsurprising really as the United Arab Emirates of which Dubai is a part, is one of the world's leading oil and gas producers. The president of this year’s UN-sponsored summit, the United Arab Emirates’ Sultan Al Jaber, also runs the country’s oil company. He managed to broker an agreement that kept Saudi Arabia and other oil producers on board simply by persuading all attending nations, plus  CEOs of major mining, drilling and pumping corporations including Darren Woods of Exxon Mobil Corp. and Toby Rice of EQT Corp. to agree that if CO2 emissions are to be reduced by replacing gas oil and coal with 'sustainable' energy sources the transition must be made in an orderly fashion.

Some governments, such as Japan’s, also insisted that additional investment in gas is necessary to boost energy security, especially after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year sent prices of the fuel to a record high. Firms in Europe and Asia signed 27-year liquefied natural gas purchase agreements with Qatar over the last year. Critics argue that this threatens 2050 net zero targets.

Proponents argue that CCS could help preserve the energy security of fossil fuels without the emissions. Critics say it’s unproven at scale and a convenient fig leaf for Big Oil.

So really, after the $£€billions spent and tons of CO2 emitted in flying all these world leaders and CEOs to Dubai in private jets, and the rest of the 30plus thousand delegates on scheduled and charter flights and putting them up in 5 and 6 star hotels, nothing much has changed. And nobody had the nous to say what everybody in the developed world who was not at the conference knows, that 'net zero' by 2050 is impossible and should be abandoned now before the ecoloons and virtue signallers to drive humanity to collective suicide.

In Washington Zelensky Offers Irrational 'Victory' Pledge While Biden Hedges His Bets

 

Judging by the none too reliable reports of Ukrainian president Vobblyvoddymyr Zelenskyyyyy's latest visit to the White House, the Ukrainian leader is no longer regarded as the Messianic figure he was treated as throughout the war's first eighteen months. The days of the press pool fawning over the little cokehead with the piano playing penis or being in awe at his presence ended with the almost instant failure of the much hyped 'counter - offensive' which was described as the act with would drive Russian troops out of Ukrainian territory completely (Crimea included,) but which actually resulted in Ukraine losing tens of thousands of its soldiers, $£€billions worth of high tech weapons donated by the NATO powers and even more territory to Russia.

Instead at Zelenskyyyyy's latests White house gig the press primarily peppered Demented Joe Biden with questions after lstening incredulously to the former comedian's speech as the pledged for the zillionth time that a Ukrainian victory was imminent and all that was needed for the final push was half a trillion US dollars and every gun, tank, aircraft and ship the entire membership of NATO possesses.

Biden's response struck a more cautious and sceptical tone tone than previous meetings with Zelensky: "I don’t want you giving up hope," the US President told his Ukrainian counterpart. "We’re going to stay at your side." 

Biden's words reflected a very obvious shift of mood in support for Ukrain apparent in the USA and throughout Europe, politicians and the media are starting to acknowledge what We The Punters have known from day one, that the Ukrainian victory narrative - a narrative which as the Financial Times noted Ukrainian citizens themselves are in increasing disbelief of - has always been a pipe dream. Yet Biden still gave out another $200 million of what's left before DoD funding runs dry for the year.

However neither Biden nor Zelenskyyyyy had anything fresh to add as the Russia-Ukraine war grinds on approaching the end of a second full year. Biden said that if Congress fails to approve his defense funding package, as the Republicans have threatened to if The White House does not address the illegal immigration crisis at the southern border,  it would be a "Christmas gift" to Putin. He also said, with a level of foolishness typical of Dementia sufferers, that Russia has failed to subjugate Ukraine. Further, the following contradictory statements were issued on behalf of the US President:

• WE ARE COMING TO THE END OF OUR ABILITY TO HELP UKRAINE
• PUTIN IS BANKING ON THE US FAILING TO DELIVER FOR UKRAINE

During a press conference following the meeting, both Zelensky and Biden dismissed the possibility of Ukraine ceding territory to Russia as the price for achieving an end to hostilities and lasting peace. Notably, Zelensky went so far as to call this most rational of suggestions "insane." Thus Ukrainians (and Russians,) will continue to die needlesly for no reason other than to inflate this diminutive clown's monster ego.

Amid ongoing negotiations between Ukrainian diplomats and lawmakers and US defense officials in Washington on Tuesday, it is becoming blatantly obvious that no breakthrough is expected in terms of Republican Congressmen who control the House of Representatives being persuaded to push through Biden's $106 billion defense aid package, while the administration is equally intransigent on the abandonment of border controls which is allowing thousands of illegal immigrats to flood into the USA every month.  

Meanwhile in the UK mainstream media, military experts and thousands of armchair warriors in internet comment threads are still pushing the 'Ukraine is winning' narrative.

Ironically the same people as were last year telling us that Russia's military was weak, badly trained, poorly armed and starving, that Putin was at death's door if not already dead, Russian tanks did not work, Russian aircradft were not airworthy and the Russian economy was in a state of collapse are now  claiming that unless all Zelenskyyyyy's demands are met Russia will emboldened to invade and conquer the whole of Europe and most of Africa.

As the war in Ukraine grinds on and Russia steps up its economic war against the west and in particular The European Union, claims made recently by the idiotically 'woke' leaders of Europe's main economic and military powers that the West has a once-in-a–generation chance to severely weaken Russia’s capabilities, both militarily and geopolitically, look increasingly hollow. Putin's critics have cited 'Western unity' as one of the main reasons why Russia will be economically destroyed and politically humiliated when the Ukraine's military finally claim victory.

The demise of US superpower: 'It's not just China, Russia and Iran'

 

Indications that the war in Ukraine may be about to end and that there will not be a favourable outcome for those nations that have invested their $£€, their weapons and their reputations in supporting the delusional crackpots in Kiev who believed they could win a war with their military superpower neighbour, and Russia is and always was a military superpower in spite of what the Zekenskyyyy fan club would have had us believe.

But it is not just military meltdown Ukraine is facing as the much hyped summer counter offensive, now universally acknowledged to have failed, but politically too.

Since Russian troops crossed the border into Ukrainian territory in february 2022 the Western public has been fed a narrative of an imminent Ukrainian victory, and a small, weak nation claiming victory after victory against a more powerful foe because it was, government, armed services and people, united in its unwavering commitment to a total military victory over Russia. This narrative was always a lie, held together by the government propahanda, a subservient media, and the delusional ranting of Ukraine's president, Vobblyvoddymyr Zenenskyy,  cocaine snorting former gay dancer and comedian whose main claim to fame was that his penis can play the piano. When put like that the man who was hailed by western leaders as a great statesman and a Chruchillian figure does not look quite so inspiraing, and as Zselensky's mistakes became too costly to ignore or conceal the myth spun around him started to crumble.

Yet in spite of the failure of Ukraine’s Nato-backed counteroffensive, which is now universally accepted, Zelenskyy continues to stick to the maximalist victory-at-all-costs narrative, insisting that Ukraine will go on fighting until every inch of lost territory, including Crimea, is regained, Russia is humiliated and there will be no peace deal with Putin unless Russia surrenders and accepts all Kiev's demands. 

Zelenskyyyyyyyy's and Ukraine's reluctance to negotiate is to some extent understandable: The Kiev regime have staked everything on achieving that objective, to back of now would probably mean the end of Ukraine as a nation. But a wiser or saner man would understand that to fight on will only have the same outcome in the long term, but with much greater loss of life.

But politically Zelensky is looking ever more vulnerable, Simon Shuster wrote in Time magazine recently, “Zelenskyy’s associates themselves are extremely skeptical about the [current] policy”, describing the president’s belief in Ukraine’s ultimate victory over Russia as “immovable, verging on the messianic”.

In November Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, General Valery Zaluzhny, told The Economist that the war with Russia had reached a stalemate and was evolving into a long war of attrition — one in which Russia has the advantage. Many took this to mean that the general believes that the time had come to negotiate a deal with Russia. Since then, the rivalry between the C-in-C and the president has escalated into an all-out power struggle. According to the Ukrainian news site Ukrainska Pravda, Zelenskyy views Zaluzhny’s popularity as a political threat and it is reported, the Army divided between those who are subordinate to Zaluzhny and those who are loyal to Ground Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi, an ally of Zelenskyy.

According to his critics, Zelenskyy’s increasingly authoritarian grip on the country is not being received well by the population. “At some point, we will no longer be any different from Russia, where everything depends on the whim of one man,”  former boxer  VitalyKlitschko, now mayor of Kiev, told Germany's Der Spiegel. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Poroshenko’s former vice-prime minister, also spoke of “an authoritarian regression” which is also a probable factor in the way NATO leader's enthusiasm for supporting Ukraine has cooled in the past few weeks.

Failure to defeat Russia or even prevent Ukraine being crushed by Russian military might will be a damaging setback for the west at a time when geopolitical  and economic power seems to be shifting to the east, but the biggest loser, economically and politically, will be the USA which is already being torn apart by its political divisions.

Though its power and influence have diminished in recent decades, the USA is still the main pillar around which the international order is based. While Washington is no longer the world’s only superpower, its influence is still vital to contain regional powers that attempt to challenge international order.

In recent years, intergovernmental organisations like BRICS have made efforts to circumvent the G7 “global elite”, while countries such as China, Russia and Iran have shown they are unafraid to test the international waters.

While their actions might not collapse the post-Second World War institutions in the short term, their efforts to challenge US global leadership could alter our accepted norms in the long-term and the failure of America's proxy war (for that is what the Ukraine conflict was as this blog has written HERE, HERE, and HERE. 

 It has taken a long time for mainstream media and political talking heads to wake up. It seemed to believe the global political balance was still in 2022 as it was in 1991 when the US was talked of as a hyper power. American decline obviously impacts the UK, which has virtually outsourced its defence to the US and repeatedly involved itself in America's police actions overseas, to our political and economic disadvantage. Britain needs to get back into the great game in order to defend the UK.

We should learn from Ukraine and the rush from Kabul. After a series of weak and wonky presidents and decades of prioritising minority rights over real problems and issues, the US cannot be relied on and Europe should come up with its own defence alliance as a top priority. Defence expenditure should be 3% of GDP, absolute minimum, and Civil Defence should be reinstated. If Trump is elected, it'll be the end of NATO and the US will be on the path to isolationism.

The weakness of the US was sensed years ago by terrorist nations and terrorist organisations which went on to exploit the weakness. The reluctance to take casualties hamstrings US military operations as it does not hamstring enemy nations. The Russians in Ukraine throw infantry into battle in 'meat waves' redolent of the Somme, and casualties are horrendous. The US would never do that. Acute sensitivity to civilian casualties also hamstrings American military operations. Russia doesn't care and neither, obviously, do the terrorist cells.

Russia understands that the US will do nothing to oppose its military expansionism in the West. Non-escalation is the new foreign policy reference frame of the US vis-a-vis Russian and Chinese expansionism. Faced with terrorist expansionism the Clinton administration didn't want to know, and the habit has survived. The clueless Biden is as weak as can be imagined. The free world, what's left of it, needs to start worrying, worrying a lot.

Unfortunately, Western governments have (i) squandered wealth in seeking to control the uncontrollable, as with Afghanistan, SARS-CoV2 and the climate; (ii) have distorted our economies through the over-extension of emergency QE (iii) have admitted large immigrant populations who share neither our history nor our historic values and (iv) have alienated swathes of their population by inane wokery and micromanagement.

This doesn't leave us at a good starting point for the challenges ahead. Nor does a government whose legislative priorities include making it illegal for a 30 year old to buy cigarettes whilst a 31 year old can do so.... and the licensing of pedicabs.

There is a growing coalition of countries who don’t want a US/ Western dominated world order lead by China and Russia but being quickly joined by India, Saudi Arabia, Iran at the head table.

China has effectively formed partnerships with half of Africa, Brazil and South Africa are partners in BRICS.

China does diplomacy and trade, Russia, North Korea and Iran do destabilisation of Western democracy. Russia, Brazil and Africa provide raw materials for growth, India provides demographics.

It is a stated aim of China to be the world superpower by 2050. This coalition is open and obvious in its intentions and covert and manipulative in its actions (Iran supporting Hamas, election manipulation, culture wars for example)

Basically this is happening. I don’t like Donald Trump but he called this. We are moving from a liberal rules based order into potentially more of an authoritarian big state system of oversight. The west took its eye off the ball, got greedy, took partnerships for granted and treated potential allies poorly.

There needs to be a diplomatic effort by the west to reestablish more equitable relationships with some of the countries being wooed by China - like India, African Countries, South American Countries, Saudi Arabia.

If a BRICS coin gets launched to challenge the dollar as is being mooted and there are enough takers from this coalition it will be game over for US as a superpower. The debt levels will cause an implosion if they are no longer in control of the main reserve currency and that will potentially open the door for a completely different type of world run in a much more authoritarian manner. 

All in all, the ill advised adventure in Ukraine, having not only failed to achieve its true objective of prompting regime change in Moscow has not only left us further up shit creek than ever before and not ony do we lack a paddle but it also loks as if our canoe is close to sinking.
