Moscow has this week made a big and provocative accusation, saying that the United States is seeking to sabotage the last pipeline transporting Russian gas exports into Europe, the TurkStream.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov alleged in a Tuesday press briefing that
Washington is encouraging "terrorist" attacks on Russia's energy
infrastructure. He specifically cited plans to target TurkStream,
following a recent large-scale drone attack.
"The US does not tolerate competition in any sphere, including energy. They are recklessly endorsing terrorist activities aimed at undermining the energy stability of the European Union," Lavrov said as quoted in Turkey's Anadolu news agency.

will buy UST debt since it means they are using hard earned national
savings simply to cover the interest they are being paid.
Only an idiot would think the world will have a secret meeting where
they decide to boycott US debt. Rather, long term rates will rise and
rise. The share of the deficit that covers interest expense currently about 12% will rise to
over 50%. People will independently decide that US debt is a joke of
an investment and will put their savings somewhere else. Then things
will snowball.
So, if the world doesn't lose respect for the US because it's the
world's biggest hate monger, it will eventually stop buying its debt
because the ponzi has become too obvious to ignore any longer and

As the increasingly desperate Ukie invasion force, currently pinned down by Russian artillery fire just a few dozenkilometers from the Kursk nuclear power plant in Russian territory, there are fears there could be a major nuclear disaster.
“There is a risk of a nuclear incident at the Kursk nuclear power plant,” said Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) following his visit on Tuesday (27 August) to the facility in Kurchatov, close to the Russian border and the area curenly occupied by Ukrainian troops.
He added that he had been shown evidence of damage caused by Ukie drone strikes during his visit to the plant.
“I was told today that there have been several cases of drone attacks on the site (the site of the Kursk nuclear power plant), on the facilities. The fact that there is fighting a few kilometers away from the nuclear power plant raises great concerns and anxiety about the security system,” Grossi added.
He stressed that in no circumstances should a nuclear power plant be a target for military action, nor should it be used by either side for military purposes. The director general also said that the security systems of a plant must be fully operational in all circumstances.
Grossi noted that the IAEA delegation was shown the traces of the Ukrainian attack on the Kursk nuclear power plant. Based on the evidence his team gathered, he said there could be no doubt that Ukraine carried out these strikes and where they came from.
Rusian president Vladimir Putin also announced on Thursday that Ukraine had attempted a drone strike on the Kursk nuclear power plant.
Grossi, who reported that he had visited the reactor hall, the engine room, and the control room of an operating power plant unit — as well as the spent nuclear fuel storage faciliy — found that the Kursk plant was operating at what is very close to “normal” mode.
He stressed that the IAEA, and not the host nation, is responsible for maintaining nuclear safety and security in , in what can only be seen as a rebuke to the irresponsible, trigger happy Ukie leadership, thatnuclear installations worldwide. He said that he had accepted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invitation to visit the Kursk nuclear power plant with his team to assess the situation personally and to find solutions together with his Russian counterparts. Earlier in the day, the IAEA director general was received by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
Grossi said he intends to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky next week to discuss, among other things, the situation at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the IAEA’s intention to extend its observer presence to other nuclear facilities in Ukraine, as requested by Kyiv.
Any warnings he gives in Kiev are likely to fall on deaf ears, e have seen throughout this conflict that the Ukies are prepared to be utterly irresponsible in their behaviour as they try to provoke Moscow into an act so outrageous it will bring the USA and NATO into direct conflict with Russia.
On the question of whether the Ukrainian side could be building a dirty bomb, Grossi said that the IAEA was present at all nuclear facilities in Ukraine and saw no sign of any leakage of materials for the assembly of such a device.
A statement from the Kursk Nuclear Poer Station’s press service on Tuesday quoted deputy director of personnel Vayim Yelekhich as saying that Russian special services are taking all security measures to ensure maximum protection of the facility and that they are in control of the situation, keeping operating conditions under control. Artyom Sarov, deputy director of the Information Policy Department of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, said that background radiation in the Kursk region was normal.

That is not quite true, though we are still aware of the importance of Ukraine to the future of the liberal democracies in western Europe, we are only three old guys (with occasional contributions from friends in the alt_news community,) and have simply been overwhelmed by events closer to home.
The problem with getting a clear picture of the conflict it that neither side can afford to lose the war, for logistical reasons NATO and Ukraine cannot possibly win.
Here are a couple of short reports from Telegram which are quite interesting and can be verifies to the extent that they are to some extent true:
As military analysts predicted, after the fall of Avdeevka, the Donbass
front became the main one for the Ukrainian Armed Forces at this stage
of the war.
The Russian army continues to develop its offensive, and the
operation to capture Avdeevka was not just a success for the enemy, but
also a big blow for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Russian army managed
to capture the main fortified area of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
which had been preparing for battle for about 10 years. The settlement
of Severnoye near Avdeevka is also occupied by the Russian army. The
Russian Armed Forces entered the settlement. Berdychi and Tonenkoye,
while the Ukrainian Armed Forces are retreating in Orlovka. At the same
time, which is typical, Ukraine does not have a second line of defense -
this is openly stated by the chief editor of Censor, Yuri Butusov, who
back in November 2023 declared the need to prepare one. That is, now the
front is steadily moving south.
The situation is difficult for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to the
north, in the area of Chasov Yar - the village of Ivanovskoye, the
main outpost between Chasov Yar and Bakhmut, has already been half taken
under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.
As we see, the loss of reserves and the poor command of the
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Syrsky began to
seriously affect the situation. The destruction of one group or another
has become a matter of time, and losses in positions where the Ukrainian
Armed Forces do not have time to gain a foothold are unacceptably high.
Russia found a weak spot in the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
With the liberation of the settlement of Petrovskoye (Ukrainian name -
Stepovoye), the front near Avdeevka aligned along the line Petrovskoye -
Lastochkino - Severnoye - Vodyanoye. One can judge the “domino effect”
after the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Avdiivka on
February 17. In just 11 days, the Russian army occupied several
settlements at once, which the enemy abandoned so as not to be
surrounded. And we will probably borrow a few more in the coming days.
Obviously, we have found a weak point in the battle formations of the
Ukrainian Armed Forces. Now, in order to prevent the collapse of the
front, the Ukrainians will be forced to transfer reinforcements here
from neighboring areas. And this, in turn, creates a window of
opportunity for us to make breakthroughs elsewhere. And the greater the
losses the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffer, the more difficult it will
become for them to “plug the holes with their bodies.” The Russian army
continues to advance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has addressed the Nova Kakhovka dam
blast in public comments on Wednesday for the first time, charging that
it was a "barbaric act" of the Ukrainian government and its military forces.
Ukraine
has in its turn blamed Russian forces for blowing up the huge dam which holds back 18 cubic kilometers of water, along with the
hydroelectric power plant, and unleashing flooding across the war zone,
and President Volodomyr Zelensky condemned “Russian terrorists”. Russian
officials claimed the dam was damaged by Ukrainian military strikes.
But as the two sides observe their usual ritual of pointing fingers at each other, The Washington Post which has supported Ukrainian propaganda throughout the war, broke ranks with the rest of mainstream media on this one. Great Game India reports:
A report from the Washington Post (WaPo) reveals that in late December 2022, information about a long-term Ukrainian plan to blow up the Kakhova Dam, which had been
exposed.
A day after Ukraine’s much-heralded counter-offensive appears to have failed, almost before it had even begun, a major dam in the Russian-occupied region of Kherson is suddenly bombed, prompting mass evacuations as floods spread across the region.
As we detailed earlier, both sides accuse each other of the attack that puts tens of thousands of homes at risk and might even threaten the safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
However, as Raul Ilargi Meijer writes, twice last year (here and here), Ukrainian officials discussed Kiev’s plans to blow up the dam.
This comes as a second surprise from WaPo in the same week as the organisation produced a surprise reportpointing to Ukrainian guilt in sabotaging the Nord Stream pipelines after mainstream media in the west had spent almost a year screming "It wuz da Russians.".
The Ukrainian propagandists are claiming that the Russian blew up the dam. That is however unlikely.
On October 21 2022 Vasily Nebenzya, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, sent a letter to the UN Secretary General about the plans of the Kiev regime to destroy the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
In a report about last years Kherson counteroffensive the Washington Postreported of Ukrainian plans and attempts to blow up the dam:
[Maj. Gen. Andriy] Kovalchuk considered flooding the river.
The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS
launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three
holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper’s water could be raised enough
to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages.
The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. He held off.
Destroying its own infrastructure is nothing new for Ukrainian servicemen. In April 2022 the New York Times already noted this:
What happened in Demydiv was not an outlier. Since
the war’s early days, Ukraine has been swift and effective in wreaking
havoc on its own territory, often by destroying infrastructure, as a way
to foil a Russian army with superior numbers and weaponry.
Demydiv was flooded when troops opened a nearby dam and sent water
surging into the countryside. Elsewhere in Ukraine, the military has,
without hesitation, blown up bridges, bombed roads and disabled rail
lines and airports. The goal has been to slow Russian advances, channel
enemy troops into traps and force tank columns onto less favorable
terrain.
Another possibility is that neither side actually blew a breach in the dam this week. A contributor in the Moon of Alabama comment thread on this story offers this suggestion:
The road and top of the dam was breached on around May 29th and
Meleleuca, another person that I cant remember and myself commented on
it here about it at the time. I had seen a video purporting to be taken
by Ukro troops and the water was already coming over the breach.
What was strange was that no one in the blogosphere or Russian
official channels seemed to have noticed it or at least commented on it
this last week. To my mind any breach or cut in the road even ,would
have been significantly newsworthy. Was it purposefully downgraded and
goven low news value for some reason? Noone seems to know about how it
has become so large a breach or about the explosion .
Seems to me the dam probably simply gave way. And it seems to me it is
for the best from the Allied point of view for it removes a potential
threat.
When the allies move to regain Kherson they will now have a dried up
flood plain to cross with no potential danger of a dam breach.
Crossing a flood plain to a citadel on high ground not a pleasant task
but they quit the citadel so they must have anticipated. Perhaps they
have no intention of taking Kherson itself but simply acquiring it as
part of the whole parcel when they conquer Kiev in some other way.
IF they can fight at all.

'Bailout or Bust'? European Bank Risk Rises As Credit Suisse Stock Tumbles After €50bn Bung
Yesterday we reported the first stage in the inevitable collapse of Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse. Last Friday saw the total failure of the Silicon Valley Bank,
the 16th biggest bank in the United States. The biggest bank failure
since the 2008 financial crisis. And according to the financial markets news feeds we see, this could be just the start of something much bigger.
Overnight the Swiss National Bank bunged €50 billion plus some small change in fresh liquidity to the collapsing retail bank Credit Suisse. And even that was not enough to prevent collapse as CS share values have continued to tumble on European, American and far eastern stock markets today. And in the USA where the crisis began last week with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank on Friday and three other bankers went bust in the days that followed, worries about the stability of the banking system continue to grow.
By Sunday, the Silvergate Bank and Signature Bank had joined SVB in
full collapse. All three are now safely under Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation (FDIC) control.
The FDIC has taken the unusual step of
fully guaranteeing all deposits kept with the SVB – meaning the federal
government will give taxpayer money out to compensate every SVB
customer.
But the damage didn’t stop there. Naturally, this put
pressure on other regional banks, with two more – First Republic Bank
and PacWest Bank – coming close to collapsing themselves, following
mini-runs. Neither is yet out of trouble.
Yet while fears for the solvency of other EU banks grew and caused further panic throughout the finance sector and among corporate businesses which run on debt and fear their credit cards may be cancelled at any moment, European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde announced a 50bps (half a percentage point,) increase in the European default lender's base rate. Required to explain the move at a time when Credit Suisse is on the verge of collapse
and every incremental rate hike by the ECB makes keeping deposits at the
bank that much more difficult, Legarde explained: "Inflation is projected to remain too high for too long", therefore the Governing Council today "decided
to increase the three key ECB interest rates by 50 basis points, in
line with its determination to ensure the timely return of inflation to
the 2% medium-term target."
ECB press releases also stated "the
elevated level of uncertainty reinforces the importance of a
data-dependent approach to the Governing Council’s policy rate decisions,
which will be determined by its assessment of the inflation outlook in
light of the incoming economic and financial data, the dynamics of
underlying inflation, and the strength of monetary policy transmission."
That said, the ECB was quick to note that "the
Governing Council is monitoring current market tensions closely and
stands ready to respond as necessary to preserve price stability and
financial stability in the euro area."
It also said that
"the euro area banking sector is resilient, with strong capital and
liquidity positions" and added that "the ECB’s policy toolkit is fully
equipped to provide liquidity support to the euro area financial system
if needed and to preserve the smooth transmission of monetary policy."
A senior Ukrainian government official told The Washington Post that
Kyiv doesn’t have the resources to pull off a big counteroffensive in
the coming months as Ukraine is lacking skilled troops, munitions, and
other equipment.
“If you have more resources, you more actively attack,” said the official, who spoke to the Post
on the condition of anonymity. “If you have fewer resources, you defend
more. We’re going to defend. That’s why if you ask me personally, I
don’t believe in a big counteroffensive for us. I’d like to believe in
it, but I’m looking at the resources and asking, ‘With what?’ Maybe
we’ll have some localized breakthroughs.”
The official said Ukraine doesn’t have “the people or weapons” to
pull off a counteroffensive. “And you know the ratio: When you’re on the
offensive, you lose twice or three times as many people. We can’t
afford to lose that many people,” the official said.
The Post also spoke with a Ukrainian battalion commander who
went by the name of Kupol and detailed the grim situation on the
frontlines. Kupol said his battalion previously withdrew from the town
of Soledar, which is near the eastern city of Bakhmut, and came under

About six and a half years ago, the UK’s Daily Mail had an interesting story that said Russia claims to have developed a mobile secret “Super Weapon” that could defeat satellites and enemy weapons. “Its
Russian makers say it is a 'fundamentally new electronic warfare
system' which can be mounted on ground-based as well as air- and
sea-borne carriers” they said and noted that their Krasuha-4
system is supposed to be capable of suppressing cruise missiles
guidance systems, other weapons guidance systems and other
satellite-electronic equipment. Tass reported that “KRET
Deputy CEO Yuri Mayevsky told TASS on Thursday …"The system will target
the enemy’s deck-based, tactical, long-range and strategic aircraft,
electronic means and suppress foreign military satellites’
radio-electronic equipment….KRET Deputy CEO Yuri Mayevsky told TASS on
Thursday.….It will actually switch off enemy weapons.”
The
photo above appears to be an array of UHF or higher frequency
antennas. The above Daily Mail article quotes the manufacturer as
saying that “'Complex
'Krasuha-4' fully covers an object from radar detection at 150-300
kilometers, and may also cause damage to enemy radar electronic warfare
and communications systems.
'The complex functioning is based on creating powerful jamming at the fundamental radar frequencies and other radio-emitting sources.' ”
To
me, that sounds like something far more than the usual jamming systems
that they have used in the past, such as the infamous “woodpecker”
(woodpecker is a HAARP type project) to jam shortwave broadcasts, and
other frequency denial attacks. You can hear it in this short YT clip.
Although Russia historically has the reputation of grandiose claims
without the ability to actually accomplish those claims, that is Russia
in the old USSR guise and not the new Russian Federation that we are now
speaking of. These guys have shown that they may be able to deliver on
those claims. Remember back when Reagan started the Strategic Defense
Initiative, also known as “Star Wars”? The Soviet Union declared they could neutralize it easily without even knowing for sure what it was.
Parts of it were anti-ballistic missile missiles (ABM) to knock down
Russian ICBM’s while in the upper portions of the arc they take from
launch to target, but there were also high energy ‘beams’, particle
beams and lasers, involved. Now whether they were real or just hype,
the propaganda war at that time was intense, we aren’t sure. While we
were claiming we could use high energy systems to take out Russian
missiles, they were claiming they could use them to neutralize our
defensive systems with high energy systems of their own.

Trey Gowdy yesterday demanded the appointment of a special counsel to investigate "conflicts of interest" and decisions "made and not made" by current and former Justice Department officials in 2016 and 2017, noting that "the public interest requires" the action.
Gowdy, R-S.C., and Goodlatte, R-Va., have written to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to advise that matters have arisen—both recently and otherwise, which necessitate the appointment of a Special Counsel. We do not make this observation and attendant request lightly,”
In an exclusive interview with Fox News, Gowdy and Goodlatte referred to the discovery of new information about events during and after the 2016 campaign as their reasoning behind calling for a second independent counsel.
"What changed for me was the knowledge that there are two dozen witnesses that Michael Horowitz, the [DOJ] Inspector General, would not have access to," Gowdy said. "When I counted up 24 witnesses that he would not be able to access were he to investigate it, yeah only one conclusion, that’s special counsel."
That list of witnesses included former FBI director James Comey, Gowdy confirmed
Last week, Sessions revealed that Horowitz is to investigate allegations of government surveillance abuse in light of memos released on Capitol Hill by the House Intelligence Committee which suggested, at least on the Republican side, that the dossier compiled by ex-U.K. intelligence officer Christopher Steele was used to obtain a FISA warrant to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
"Absolutely, this whole FISA warrant was on Carter Page," Gowdy told Fox News.
Goodlatte agreed stating that the case on which the warrant was built was "highly suspect."
The lawmakers wrote, "There is evidence of bias, trending toward hostility, among those charged with investigating serious cases."
They added, "There is evidence political opposition research was used in court filings. There is evidence this political opposition research was neither vetted before it was used nor fully revealed to the relevant tribunal."
Both lawmakers said they didn’t know at this stage when or if a second counsel would be appointed at all.

The US can not keep the US Dollar as the world reserve currency for many more years if it does not get spending and the growing national debt under control. The Federal Reserve can do nothing except trying to buy down long term rates using monetized debt. And that is only temporary. Eventually they will stop on their own or because nobody except the Fed will buy US debt anymore. When that happens, long term US$ bond yields rates will rise and rise and rise, passing even Greek levels. Since the US debt is so huge $36trillion dollars, Washington now needs to borrow to pay interest on US debt, eventually nobody will buy UST debt since it means they are using hard earned national savings simply to cover the interest they are being paid.
Only an idiot would think the world will have a secret meeting where they decide to boycott US debt. Rather, long term rates will rise and rise. The share of the deficit that covers interest expense currently about 12% will rise to over 50%. People will independently decide that US debt is a joke of an investment and will put their savings somewhere else. Then things will snowball.
So, if the world doesn't lose respect for the US because it's the world's biggest hate monger, it will eventually stop buying its debt because the ponzi has become too obvious to ignore any longer and there's no hope of it ever turning around. Or both. And with Trump's inauguartion only a few days away, the warmongers have run out of time. World War Three canot save them now, the dream of global hefemony is fading fast and no amount of provocations by the puppet regime chan change that.
