European Parliament Approves Controversial Migration Pact; Furious Nationalists Vow To Bring It Down After EU Elections

The European Parliament has approved the controversial EU Asylum and Migration Pact, which will see countries forced to accept their fair share of new arrivals into the bloc or pay a fine for every migrant they reject.

The new asylum and migration package was passed largely with votes from lawmakers affiliated with the European People’s Party, the Socialists and Democrats (S&D), and Renew Europe, with MEPs being urged to swallow their criticisms of the scheme and vote for the compromise legislation.

“History made,” tweeted European Parliament President Roberta Metsola as she praised what she described as a “robust legislative framework on how to deal with migration and asylum,” noting it had been “10 years in the making” but the EU had kept its word.

Some MEPs on both the left and the center-right revealed they voted through the pact despite its many flaws.

“The new legislation is not perfect but we can only make migration manageable and humane with one European solution,” said Hilde Vautmans, foreign affairs coordinator for Renew Europe.

Nationalist politicians across Europe expressed their anger at the passing of the pact, which they claim cedes sovereignty to an evermore-centralized European Union.

“The Migration Pact organizes the tutelage and control of nations, the legal impunity of NGOs complicit with smugglers,” tweeted Marine Le Pen of France’s National Rally.

She further vowed to “put an end to the accelerated pursuit of policies to encourage and organize mass immigration,” on June 9 at the EU elections in which her party is expected to win the most French seats. ... Continue reading >>>

Is The Internet Killing Democracy?

 What is happening to democracy in Europe? While we in England laugh at the contortions of the Scottish and Irish governments as they attempt to justify to an already alienated voter base their authoritarian policies, notably the 'hate speech' laws that are so loosely drafted anyone in either of those countries could fing him or herself in prison for saying anything about anything, we ourselves are watching a long established political party tear itself apart as it tries to appease noisy but numerically insignificant minorities by yielding to their 'woke demands while simultaneously attempting to convince ordinary voters that accepting unlimited numbers of unskilled, uneducated, unemployable illegal immigrants, tailoring economic and energy policies to the loonytoons ambitions of far - left ideologues and a person can change sex if they click their heels three times and wish.

Germany, until recently the economic powerhouse of the European Union is now 'The Sick Man Of Europe', overwhelmed with unskilled, uneducated, unemployable illegal immigrants, its manufacturing industry in a state of collapse and its political establishment in disarray to the extent that the ruling coalition of the left, loony left and centre right paries is seriously considering banning the most popular opposition party. Spain has a far left government led by the socialist party, which even in coalition with other left wing parties cannot command a majority in the national assembly and therefore cannot govern effectively.

Having held a general election last November in which Geert Wilders' Freedom Party became the largest bloc in the assembly and parties of the right gained a comfortable majority, the country still does not have a government as EU officials and members of the outgoing government do all they can to prevent a right of centre coalition forming.

In the political Grand Guignol of French politics and the Commedia del Arte of the Italian version chaos rules, in other words business as usual while in Poland, last of the large population European Union member states Europhile leader Donald Tusk is busy having political opponents arrested and jailed and criminalising criticism of himself and his government.

In Sweden a ruling coalition, led by the Moderates party is trying to push through a Left-leaning reform that some significant parts of the Left do not want, and over the stringent objections of many politicians in parties that are part of the government coalition, and also in blatant contempt of the majority opinion of Swedish voters. Confusion thus abounds: why would the Moderates spend all this energy on an issue that only promises to make their own voters feel dismayed?

Sweden today is governed by the Right, not the Left, and it is the centre - right Moderate party that is implicated in pushing this law through. The prime minister of Sweden — Ulf Kristersson — is thus leading the effort to lower the age at which one can change one’s legal gender from 18 to 16, even as a massive majority of his own voting base are against this change. To further inflame things, his parliamentary group is also opposed to it, although it is being whipped to vote in favour. And to top it all off, some of the strongest objections to the law are coming from the Left, where there are deep concerns about its promises to make it easier to access irreversible surgery.

Viewed in perspective it becomes obvious that this sort of political clown show fits into a wider, pan-European pattern. The ruling elites are totally out of touch, not just with the voters, but out of touch with reality, they are living in a different dimension. As a politician, it’s easy to think that your job is first and foremost to be seen doing something, almost regardless of whatever that “something” ends up being, but the general public are no so easily fooled.

 It really feels like the whole show is now grinding to a halt or is just about to collapse in a mess of its own contradictions.

I’m sure the politicians feel just as moribund as we do and can barely muster enough energy to lie to us all again.

Meanwhile a bunch of unelected old farts known as the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights,) who have form for judicial meddling in political matters, has told some old biddies in Switzerland that they can hold their government responsible for ‘not doing enough to combat climate change’ and sue for compensation (‘enough’ being just how much exactly?).

And if you think things are bad in Europe, take a good long look at America.

But what has got us into this mess? What is killing democracy in so many ways throughout the developed world? The Elephant in the room is The Internet and more specifically Social Media, along with the ability to surveil and censor us that these technologies give officials who have control freak tendencies.

It was commonly believed in the early days, when the cult of the amateur ruled in cyberspace, that universal access to the net might enhance democracy by giving ordinary punters access to information they would not normally see, but instead it appears to have become a source of contagion; with political ideas framed to support certain agendas being spread as if factual information (misinformation) that have weakened our defences to fake news and manipulation of the truth, with the consequences now becoming more clear.

However were we to focus on one cause it would be the growth of the regulatory / legal complex: the endless increase in the number of rules, regulators, lawyers and compliance officers supported by the entrenchment of ever more rights and ever more intrusive courts that the new media with its promise of free access to information and the freedom to publish our own thoughts, opinions and ideas has spawned. 

All this has raised process above substance and increased the number of people who can prevent or slow any action. Not only politicians have been disempowered and encouraged to focus instead on purely symbolic or identity politics. The paralysis is creeping into many organisations. During the early days of the Covid crisis, hospitals were amazed by how much they could achieve in days once they had suspended the usual rules and started to operate on common sense.

It has been argued that the great achievement of the French Revolution was that it enabled the destruction of the paralysing mishmash of privileges and laws that made France ungovernable and decisive reform impossible. It was replaced by the simplicity of the Code Napoleon and the decisiveness of his government.

So it is possible. Let us hope we can work out how to dismantle the administrative state without needing the accompaniment of such liberal use of the guillotine

Hate-crime Laws Are An Attack On Free Speech And A Violation Of Human Rights

 Hate crime (whatever that is,) seems to be the only crime the police, the judiciary and the political establishment are interested in these days. But when some act or statement, either spoken or written, can be defined as a criminal act of 'hate speech' by anyone who decides they have been offended by it, is the means pf prosecuting the alleged offender anything to do with justice, or is it the weaponisation of law against freedom and human rights?

The vague nature of the term "hatred" means it is open to interpretation, probably based on perceived insults rather than objective crimes. This means it can be used arbitrarily by the police and the courts for political purposes and will be used by supporters of the 'woke' left, an extremist ideology supposedly supportive of minorities but which in reality works by oppressing the majority.

However, this should not be our main concern about the terrible new laws now in use against free speech and personal liberty in Scotland, Canada, Germany and soon to be passed into law in several other nations. 

It is likely the number of people going to jail because of such criminal laws will be small, especially given that prisons are already full to overflowing with real criminals, terrorists and people who have said climate change is not man made. The main problem is that anybody can log a "hate" incident online, anonymously if preferred, that will create a permanent record against someone's name, whether or not they are charged, a record which can be made known to a prospective employer, who will likely refuse such a person employment. 

This is a snitches charter, one of the methods used by tyrants since tyranny was invented. There is huge scope for malevolent and vexatious reporting of "hate" incidents, and the accused person may not even be aware of such a report. This is the truly evil aspect of this law, as it bypasses the normal legal processes of redress and denies a person the opportunity to defend themselves.

If somebody is found guilty of this particular offence, they might well be sentenced to life imprisonment.

It Seems World War Three Is Now Inevitable Because The Globalist Agenda Needs It

As the war in Ukraine drags on, although Ukraine has effectively lost, but like a punch drunk old boxer urged on by his irresponsible secons, simply cannot understand that it's time to thow inthe towel, the regime in Kieve in encouraged by NATO (chiefly The USA,) to keep on fighting because victory is still achievable, there is suddenly a lot of talk from out leaders about European Union members and other western nations preparing for war. Quite what planet this asdinine arses are living on is uncertain, because the west was hopelessly unprepared for war even before we started giving all our reserves of weapons, ammunition and equipment to Ukraine. But as our preparedness for any kind of military action, so the war talk increases in frequency and volume as conspiracy theorists high up in government and the World Economic Forum babble rabidly about \russia's plans to conquer Ukraine and march through Poland, Hungary, The Balkans and all the way to The Atlantic coastline in spite of there being no evidence that the Russians have ever thought about this. James Heappey, a former UK Armed Forces minister, has revealed that only Whitehall officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) bothered to take part in an exercise to find out how the country would be governed from the UK’s wartime bunker in the event of World War Three breaking out. Two weeks after quitting his government post, the Conservative MP and former Army officer urged ministers to prepare for conflict. He called on them to plan for commandeering land for cultivation to feed the nation and requisitioning consumer electronics for weapons. These comments were backed by Ben Wallace, the former defence secretary, who said there were “too many people” in the Government “relying on hoping” that the current instability would “go away”. Mr Wallace, who led the MoD until August last year, said it was time to “blow the dust off” plans drawn up during the Cold War on how Britain would be run during wartime. The criticism comes as the Government is reviewing its contingency plans for an all-out resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and conflict in the Middle East. It is easy to place all the blame for the rundown state of our armed forces on the current government, but depletion of the military serivces and 'hollowing-out' of its capabilities goes back much further. I can't remember the details, or under which government it was, but, some time ago, the government decided that individual ministries would be 'taxed' by the Treasury for any assets they held in excess of those directly in use. For most ministries this was unimportant and merely encouraged good housekeeping. For the MoD, however, it was disastrous. First to go was any redundancy in the estate - so the spare barracks and accomodation went - some of which was then badly missed when withdrawal from BAOR took place. But, more damaging was the resultant disposal of 'war stocks'. Previously, all kinds of military equipment, arms and ammunition were kept 'just in case'. It all had to go, to be replaced with the principle of 'just in time' whereby, should conflict break out, new equipment, arms and ammunition would be provided direct from the manufacturers. The reason for this was to save money (of course) but, strategically, it meant that the armed forces had no ''depth' when it came to materiel and losses would not easily be replaced - at least until the last minute - assuming then that they were available and that we were first in the queue. It may be there is someone on here with a better memory (and more knowledge of the issue) than me who can write more on the subject with greater clarity. The point, however, is that this occurred probably about a generation ago - not during the lifetime of the current 'government'. Our unpreparedness is wider that just weaponry and manpower. The most important thing Britain could do to prepare for war, and to improve national securityty generally, would be to ensure that domestic sources of reliable and inexpensive energy are fully exploited. If the world is at war we will need all the energy we can produce to keep the nation and the war effor running. And as of now we are relying on importing about 20% of our ebegy via undersea cables from France, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Norway. And guess what target would be high up on Russia's list of targets. Fighting a war uses a lot of energy.., and chews through a lot of manufactured items.., which themselves require energy to build and maintain. There is no point in having an army without also having the weapons and ammunition for them to fight with. ]Successive governments over the past four decades have failed us in virtually every area of policy, claiming that they will take one course of action before usually taking the opposite route. They have done this time after time, betraying voters faith in, and turning our country it into a second-rate power! Sunak should resign, hold a leadership contest and then call an election to allow his party to face the nation under a new leader, possibly one who put Britain first rather than prioritising the interests of the World Economic Forum, the LGBTQ lobby and the Billionaire psychopaths of Silicon Valley. People in government, not just in UK but in The USA, Germany, France, and in EU headquarters in brussels really do not seem to recognise the strength of feeling against the ruling elites that is out here in the real world.
