Fascism Is Coming To Britain And Europe - But Not From Where You Expect

 

Anti immigration protests in UK seaports of Dover and Portsmouth last week have sent shockwaves through some parts of UK society as snowflakes claim to have been intimidated by the fact that many of the protestors wore black shirts and trousers and concealed their identity from facial recognition technology with face coverings.

Critics of the protests, proponents of 'open borders' policy and far left groups have been quick to throw around terms like Nazi and Fascist to describe the protestors, while screaming for authoritarian measures like curtailment of free speech, banning certain groups from holding organised gatherings and attacking the freedoms that have defined the UK's liberal democracy. 

For those of us in the online news and commentary community who have followed developments in society objectively over the past ten to fifteen years, far from being a surprise these protests were inevitable as successive governments, while promising to tackle the problems caused by mass immigration in our industrial cities and towns, have done little to slow the flow of unskilled, uneducated, illiterate and unemployable migrants lured to the UK by our over - generous welfare system and lax enforcement of rules on who is eligible to claim certain benefits. 

As a consequence of this civil unrest has been growing and Britain’s liberal consensus is being hollowed out by the very people who claim to be protecting it. The immediate threat is not a fascist movement massing on the Right, identifiable by their black shirts and pursuing a racist nd authoritarian agenda. It is progressive authoritarianism embraced by our three main political parties and already embedded within our institutions and its increasingly brazen accommodation of Islamism alongside the suppression of groups and parties seeking to reform certain institutions that worked well in the 1960s but are hopelessly outdated now.

Fascism destroyed democracy in Europe during the 1930s. History is unlikely to return wearing the same uniform. In Britain today, the assault on individual liberty, universal citizenship and our Judeo-Christian inheritance comes principally from the people who identify themselves as The Left.

Germany has just provided an insight into where this disconnect between the tax - paying majority and the law making elite leads. This week in Saxony-Anhalt, the AfD, routinely branded a far right party, won nearly 44% of the vote while the governing CDU collapsed to just 17%. Predictably, the Establishment reached for the word ‘fascist’. But that evades the more important question: why did almost half the electorate abandon the centre?

They did not suddenly develop a longing for jackboots. Many simply noticed that their rulers no longer defended their borders, prosperity or culture, the centre was no longer the political centre in a liberal socuety, it had become the central authority of a bureaucratic dictatorship. Worse, the metropolitan lanyard class considered the people who voted AfD in protest at the direction of the old ruling duopoly morally defective for having the temerity to notice this shift from liberalism to authoritarianism.

When mainstream politicians decline the task of defending a country’s Germanic - Roman inheritance, indulge imported ideologies that resist assimilation and silence objections to this cultural vandalism as extremism, voters eventually find someone less polite who will listen. This pushback has now reached Spain where earlier this year the socialist government's grant of citizenship to almost a million illegal immigrants triggered widespread rioting.

The AfD victory in a sparsely populated German province does not prove that fascism has returned to Europe. It proves that calling every objection to mass immigration and cultural disintegration fascist no longer frightens voters back into line. Progressive authoritarianism does not suppress the nationalist backlash. It manufactures it as has happened in the UK, France and Italy as well. Only Sweden,with its 'smash the gangs' policy, has so far succeeded in turning back the tide of uncontrolled immigration. 

For years, the consensus of the UK legacy parties insisted that any threat to British democracy must come from the Right. The familiar pantomime villain was a tattooed skinhead marching down Whitehall in a black shirt and bovver boots. Meanwhile, authoritarianism was quietly establishing itself inside the institutions supposedly defending us from it. A slow, decades-long march by Left-wing activists through our cultural, educational, media and political institutions was eroding the values that defined Britain.

Here lies the central thesis of the modern crisis. The grand illusion that keeps the British Establishment blind to its own undoing. The ultimate red herring is the Left’s constant, obsessive smearing of the Right as ‘fascist’ or ‘pre-fascist’: a brilliant, subversive smokescreen designed to conceal its own descent into statit authoritarianism.

Socialism, Fascism, National Socialism share the same roots: elevation of the State above the individual; central economic planning and control. (Aka any British and European Government.)

Both National Socialism and Fascism used Socialist ideology in the cause of the Nation State – the struggle between Nations instead of a class-struggle.

The latter two only differed from Socialism because whereas the former took ownership of the “means of production” and directed it from the centre, they left the “means of production” in private hands but directed it from the centre – tomayto/tomahto.

Saying Fascism is not Socialism, is like saying Anglicanism is not Christianity because unlike Catholicism it does not accept transubstantiation.

And: National Socialism with its emphasis on racial purity and Aryan superiority is NOT Fascism. Yet the two are conflated.

As you say, a brilliant trick posing the antithesis of Socialism and its opponents as “fascism” and “fascists” and therefore evil, and then the Left are good and pure.

Worse: it’s not just the Left, it’s the supposed Right or Centre-Right (whatever that is) who propagate the lie. Democracy fractures when institutions stop defending free speech, freedom of religion and equality before the law, leaving citizens politically homeless, and this is what has happened and is happening across Europe.

“Europe never had democracy” a defence of the onslaught against democracy often used by the authoritarian statists, is too sweeping. Britain, France and Weimar Germany plainly did. Nor can Fascism be separated entirely from race. Italian Fascism initially emphasised nationhood, but Mussolini’s regime later imposed colonial segregation and the racial laws of 1938.

Britain has spent years searching the horizon for imaginary blackshirts while progressive Marxism and political Islam have steadily weakened the liberal order from within. Fascism destroyed Weimar in the 1930s. The totalitarian impulse has not disappeared. It has changed its language, its costume and its preferred entrance. It represents government increasingly insulated from the people it governs.

Minneapolis Protester Shot By Immigration Officer - A Balanced View

 

 

US Vice - President JD Vance claimed the woman shot and killed by an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis was responsible for her own death.

The VP suggested Renee Nicole Good, 37, was at fault for the shooting. She was killed on Wednesday during a confrontation with a federal agent taking part in an immigration raid, who fired his weapon through the windscreen of her SUV. The death has sparked the usual outrage in the US and as usual in the culture war as in any other war, truth has been the main casualty. 

In a post on X, Vice President Vance said the death was a “tragedy” but one “that falls on this woman and all of the radicals who teach people that immigration is the one type of law that rioters are allowed to interfere with”. He might have added that radicals and leftists need to understand that immigrants are not above the law. As Marcus Tullius Cicero wrote around 2000 years ago, 'In a civilised society there can only be one law and it must be applied equally to all.'

On Thursday, protesters clashed with immigration officers after the killing of Ms. Good as she and other protestors tried to prevent officers from carrying out their duty. Federal agents fired pepper balls to try to push back crowds and deployed a gas-like substance, according to CNN.

Let’s take the ideology and emotion out of this. This woman did help escalate a situation by blocking the street with her car, reportedly as part of a protest aimed at preventing Immigration officers from raiding a property believed to be occupied by illegal immigrants. She should clearly not have tried to drive away, but the officers had approached her car in an agressive manner. However she is clearly heard refusing to comply with an order to get out of her car and then as one officer tried to grab the ignion key she decides to use her car as a weapon and drives forward, towards another officer who is standing in front of her car.

As the car was moving slowly we cannot say if the officer who fired had time to move out of the way or not, but there was no reason to shoot to kill. What is apparent is a distinct lck of common sense on the part of both the deceased and the officers. This is the United States of America where law enforcement officers are known to be trigger happy. Refusing to comply with an order given by an armed cop or Federal Agent is sheer insanity as well as unlawful. On the other hand the police approach was never likely to lead to a peaceful resolution. 

Police could have let her drive away, blocked to road ahead and surrrounded the driver.

The reality is her actions were unlawful, unjustified and so were ICE's. She did not deserve to die but the ICE officers didn't deserved to be hit by her car either, even though the contact was minimal.

But as usual in these situations, the incident is being politicised. Less usual is that the media focus on the killing is deflecting attention from the bigger picture of immigrant crime in the Minneapolis area.

When an unarmed protester was shot dead for interfering with the law a few years ago, Democrats and progressives celebrated, justified it and believed it to be the right course of action so they clearly do tolerate unarmed activists being shot dead when they are Republican o supporting right wing causes. Thus this clearly isn't about a protestor against some government policy being needlessly killed  but instead  the outrage is because a Democrat or progressive rather than a Republican or conservative is dead.

We are clearly failing as a society when we decide whether a death is justified or not just because of someone's politics. So I find it hypocritical that the left in the USA are outraged when recently they have enthusiasitically celebrated the deaths of multiple people, including the murder of Charlie Kirk. It's also hypocritical of  the political right to claim shooting someone unarmed is justified when they were outraged about the republican protestor being shot dead.

The reality is this woman broke the law, she used her car to obstruct, then when she hit the officer with it, which she did in the full videos not the selectivly edited ones in which the officr in question is not clearly visible, she then was doing a hit and run. If she had just stopped her vehicle and got out when requested none of this would have happened and if she didn't use her car to unlawfully block ice agents she'd be alive. She chose her actions, she should not have been there and she was shot dead whilst breaking multiple laws and exacerbating that by refsing to comply with an order to leave her car..

Was the shooting justified? No absolutely not, however when there are tutorial videos online teaching activists to not only block but to purposely hurt agents with those cars, you can understand why police and federal agents are quick to shoot: they fear for their lives.

In The Brutal Murder of Iryna Zarutska Liberal Virtue Signallers Are As Guilty As The Man Who Held The Knife

 

 

By now most people will know the story although it took almost three weeks for mainstream media to report that on August 22, 2025, 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed on a Charlotte, North Carolina light rail train, murdered in cold blood by 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr., a homeless man with history of mental illness and violence, including a long criminal record and more than 10 arrests.  Iryna died at the scene, and the grotesque act was caught on surveillance video so that the whole world may winess the decay of civilisation, a process which has ben led by the USA.

After a decade of lecturing the American public about injustice, an innocent woman dies as a direct result of progressive ('woke') policy and suddenly the  screeching of liberal and democrat “activists” in the media is silenced. All those regular whingers about racism for some reason don’t have a single word to say about this outrage. Why? Probably because the victim was white and the perp. a person of colour. Can you imagine the screeching from the left had the race element in this crime been reversed?

Today as the story has gone worldwide, it is is more becoming about the media’s lack of coverage of the incident than the crime itself. No major mainstream media outlet reported on the horrific incident until it went viral on alt_news sites and social media. Even then the response from leftists,liberals and 'woke' progressives was despicable. Activists tried to set up a Go Fund Me page to pay the killers legal fees.

Then again, much of polite society (the chattering classes,) across the West has dedicated itself to not noticing the patterns that keep unfolding across these horror stories that repeat so often in North America and Europe, with names and details changed but a consistent theme. The “compassionate” thing to do is turn a blind eye, look elsewhere until the news cycle moves on, then continue to make the same mistakes until the next slaughter. The chattering classes may be adept at accusing working class people of racism, transphobia, bigotry and hate crime but are totally useless when asked to face the realities of working class life.

In a sane world, the suspect in the killing, Decarlos Brown Jr, would not have been free to walk the streets or ride on public transport. Reports claim  Brown was homeless, had a long criminal record, including a prison time for armed robbery, and a history of schizophrenia that had seen his own mother seek to have him commitment to a mental hospotal earlier this year. He had been arrested in January after calling 911 to tell the operator that people were trying to control him.

Regrettably, at this point, the “compassion” of the legal system (or a 'woke' desire to avoid violating his human right by locking him up as a danger to the public,) raised its head. Confronted with a man whose criminal behaviour and evident mental illness made him a clear threat to those around him, who, according to police records, believed “man made” substances within his body were controlling his actions, a judge released him with only a “written promise to appear” at his next hearing.

 

"Woke, (Faux), Compassion" of the predominantly liberal politicised judiciary includes subjecting citizens,  society and civilisation, to the most disturbed and disturbing people, perpetrators, and behaviours, causing maximise individual and crowd anxiety and discomfort, with the intention of rendering our civil and national communities dysfunctional to pave the way for a global government.

Let the prisoners out of prison, let the insane out of asylum, both unleashed on family, community, nation, place the abnormal with the normal, turn alpha omega and omega alpha, invert family, blame the victim - protect the perpetrator, destroy community, nation, world order by policing private thoughts while abandoning the streets to lawlessness, venerate perverted, deformed, defective, even to the point ordinary healthy folk, particularly children do not any longer know what constitutes normal behaviour.

Wokery, (of which what described above is but one part), a front in Wicked Worldwide Woke War, now raging, seeking downfall of Western World Civilisation.

The murder of Iryna Zarutska could just as easily have hapened in Britain, France or Germany on a bad day - it seems that Liberals really don't mind their children ( or probably more specifically for the childless cat ladies , other people's children) being sacrificed on the altar to the gods and mantras of Socialist/Communist philosophy that teach "...all criminals are victims of society' and '... international borders are a Capitalist construct...', and '... multiculturalism makes our society richer...".

Trump's Latest Actions Trigger 'Threat To Democracy' Warnings From His Undemocratic Opponents.

 Since Donald Trump 'triggered' hypersensitive liberals and progressives (aka communist seditionists,) by activating the California National Guard against the protest of the governor, and then bringing in US Marines – both of which his critics argue are unconstitutional – is certainly provocative and possibly, in part at least, a theatrical stunt by the president to show who is in charge fotr the benefit of Governors in Democrat run states who think they can derail the Trump presidency. The street protests in Los Angeles were the result of his ordering a crackdown on illegal immigrants to the state, where for decades a far left state government has been actively encouraging illegal immigration.. You could be forgiven for thinking he deliberately provoked the alleged “rebellion” in order to humiliate California leaders.

It is worth noting that The Appeals Court ruled today that Trumps use of the California National Guard was legal, which is a bit inconvenient for those who would brand him a tyrannical dictator. In fact his action against illegal immigrats in California was a response to the state government's refusing to enforce federal law, and encouraging lawless among minority communities. 

Added to that, from the moment Trump announced his intention to run again for president, the Democrat Nomination Committee mobilised prosecutors, judges, the left media et al in a lawfare campaign against him. That is where the real threat to democracy  in the USA resides. Fortunately the American public saw through it.  

Trump is currently attacking California Democrat controlled state legislature on several fronts, shrewdly judging that the extremist Governor Gavin Newsom among all Democrat politocians was most likely to react unreasonably. Newsom duly obliged by orchestrating the pro - immigration riots that disrupted Los Angeles and other cities a couple of weeks ago. He is stripping the state of its powers under the Clean Power Act to impose tougher pollution rules than federal levels. He has signed an order blocking California’s plan to phase out petrol cars by 2035, and another stopping it capping nitrogen oxide emissions. He now is threatening to withhold federal disaster aid for wildfires.

Trump, in typical style called Newsom  “Governor Newscum” and added : “You know, hatred is never a good thing in politics. When you don’t like somebody, you don’t respect somebody, it’s harder for that person to get money if you’re on top.”

The end of American democracy comes not when we allow a Donald Trump to get away with process violations, but when we allow anyone to do so.

But the elites have been more than happy to live with that sort of thing, as long as it was Democrats doing it. As long as the ship was going to the way they wanted it to go.

Donald Trump has done some things that are not acceptable. The California Guard thing is not one of them, but others are. But if you call him out on those things, and ignore Democrats when they do so, then you are not aprincipled son of liberty, you are a partisan and a hack.

Woke Is Authoritarian, The Left Is Now The Right

 

I'm old enough to remember the dawn of the hippe movement and shortly before that, though I was at the beginning of my teens at the time, the growth of the civil rights movement. These two things were connected by a collective desire of the part of their followers to create a society free from injustice and inequality, in which traditional prejudices did not define people.  Those laudable aims have, in a few decades, morphed into the excesses of progressive thinking and the screeching authoritarianism of the 'woke' movement and its ideology. The fact that politicians ranging from Ron DeSantis to Rishi Sunak deploy “woke” as a battle cry against pressure groups who hold that on any issue there is only one acceptable opinion and only one correct way of thinking. Not only conservatives and classical liberals (like myself,) but many socialists are increasingly uneasy with the form it has taken.

The woke discourse today is confusing because while it appeals to traditional left wing values: empathy for the marginalised, indignation at the plight of the oppressed, determination that historical wrongs can be righted, it adopts many of the tactics favoured by tyrants and totalitarian regimes in trying to win its arguments.  Thus the high minded principles are undermined by a range of theoretical assumptions — usually expressed as self-evident truths — that ultimately undermine them.

The concept of unity or universalism once defined the Left; solidarity was its watchword and the idea that the common bond of our shared humanity overrode considerations of nationality, race and religious affiliations distinguished it from the Right, which recognised no universal connections, and few real obligations, to anyone outside its own circle. 

The Left claimed there was only one race, the human race. Being a socialist or a liberal meant: caring about striking coal miners in Wales, or Republican volunteers in Spain, or freedom fighters in Africa, the ruination of good land by strip mining, the pollution of seas and rivers therough unregulated dumping of waste, and the exploitation of the many by the few. What united the left was the conviction that behind all the differences of time and space which separate us, human beings are deeply connected in a wealth of ways. To say that histories and geographies affect us is trivial. To say they determine us is false.

Going all in on racially and socially divisive identity politics, making everything political, and making politics itself a zero sum game had to end badly  Followers of the 'woke' ideology loudly and aggrssively declared everyone not aligned with their way of thinking as enemies to be marginalised and 'cancelled' (excluded from social activity,) they shouted down anyone who tried to warn that the path they are on is dangerously authoritarian. Even now, with pushbacks growing stronger every day, they  still seem incapable of truly understanding the Law of Unintended Consequences or the corruption of power. “Authoritarian tendencies?” “Undermining democracy?” That is what the progressive movement with its 'woke' ideology, have been doing! 

Much of the Classical Liberal Left has already abandoned them. They are called “far-right” now by the modern left even though they were not the ones who decided they love corporate power, political establishments, authoritarianism, hating on the rural and global poor and their innate conservatism. 

Progressives have abandoned the philosophical ideas that are central to any liberal or Left-wing standpoint: a commitment to universalism over tribalism.

As a liberal I was always cautious about such principles as unregulated immigration and the abolition of principles, simply because sometimes pragmatism must outweigh idealism, but even so many like me felt the progressive cause was a necessary and sometimes even admirable part of our politics. But now?

Now, progressivism has become more associated with the behaviour of Atilla the Hun. The only way to stop this new fascism, (an accurate description of what it is) is forcefully – just as force historically has always had to be deployed against fascism in all its many forms – both Left and Right

I don’t think the distinction we should pay attention to is between tribalism and universalism, but between authoritarianism and genuine liberalism. There are and always have been authoritarians out there in society, and what sham philosophies they parrot are always just the tools they’re trying to use at any given time to get and keep power. Presently, they’re pretending to be Progressives, but the censorship, government control – including violence – and infliction of their mandates by way of public shaming just shows them to be the same old wolves in lambs’ clothing. Commenting on the surprisingly unsurprising outcome of the USA's mid term elections in Unherd, Prof Joel Kotin writes:

 "what has to be considered a lost Republican opportunity — gaining little in a country where lifespans are now dropping — also means that the Democrats will be slower to address their weaknesses, and may be forced to accept the unpopular Joe Biden as their leader in 2024.

"With no sign of a Republican resurgence, the Democrats will likely be lulled into thinking that Biden’s polarising agenda is a vote-winner, in the same way the conspiracy-minded MAGA wing of the GOP refuses to move on from 2020. Until it’s resoundingly disproved in the ballot box, stridency tends to whip up your base: Trump’s supporters have become, as the President suggested, “semi-fascist”, while his political mentor, South Carolina’s James Clyburn, goes further, decrying the GOP as the architects of a Nazi state."

That’s rich coming from two of the architects of a neo – Stalinist state.
Both Britain and America have the same problem in politics, the paries of the traditional duopoly have been bought and corrupted by corporate money. We need to find some new parties to vote for, ones that understand the concept of public service as opposed to serving the interests of the biggest donors.

Part of the explanation for the unexpectedly good showing of Democrats and the Republicans' underperformance against predictions (which were foolishly hyperbolic given recent experience,) of a 'Red Wave' submerging the Democrats  the was suggested by ‘TheLast Refuge” on twitter:

Unless there is voting reform in the US (and UK,) elections, Democratic nominees will continue to be elected and will control the Government. I suspect that this is what happened when Biden beat Trump. Former was nowhere to be seen during the campaign yet managed to garner 10m more votes than Obama. People who try to initiate discussion of voting irregularities in the US 2020 Presidential Election are instantly dismissed as 'conspiracy theorists,' but though the numbers speak for themselves in telling a story of a broken electoral system. Not only did a demented old goofball with a long track record of unsavoury behaviour around pubescent girls win a record number of votes, his rival also gained more votes that any presidential candidate in any previous election. And yet neither of these candidates was particularly popular even among their own party's  voters.

All sorts of tales of suspicious voting patterns among voters using the mail in voting systems, of drop boxes being stuffed with ballots for one candidate and none for the other, and of blank ballot harvesting by representatives of religious and ethnic groups. All these stories were echoes of allegations made after the UK's 2019 election.

The case is that progressives (self righteous authoritarians,) have run the The USA's Democrat and Republican and UK's Conservative and Labour parties since around 1970ish. They have had temporary setbacks, particularly those inflicted by  Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan but an overall trend of election results that do not relect the punlic mood but lead in the opposite direction has emeriged. This can be best observed in policies like imigraation, climate change and minority rights.

Bill Clinton was far more progressive than is usually thought and George W Bush was a neoliberal globalist. It was during Clinton's presidency that progressives took control of the national police and surveillance agencies and that surveillance regime has grown under every subsequent president. Conservative Prime Minister Ted Heath (1970 - 74) was a liberal, something he had in common with the majority of gay men, John Major and Tony Blair were globalists

 Since 2000, the Republicans won the popular vote in a presidential election only once: George W. Bush in 2004, when he painted opponents to his invasion of Iraq as traitors and his party managed to get gay marriage on the ballot in several key states (Gay marriage was very unpopular then and stimulated opponents to turn out.)

 In the meantime demographics have moved towards progressives too, as the immigration policies adopted by Kennedy in the USA and Wilson in UK bore fruit. Some media outlets have even debated abandoning pursuit of the working class in favor of the emerging diverse majority.

Progressives, or Cultural Marxists, to give them the more truthful label invented by The Frankfurt School of social philosophy in the 1920s or 30s, believe that western civilisation must be destroyed in order that a new, Statist model, a technocracy or managed society can replace it. Both George Orwell in his novel '1984' and Aldous Huxley in 'brave New World' predicted this and both, politically, were social democrats. Progressives are not democratic in any sense, their model society is based on governance by an unelected elite of financiers, scientists and academics and media moguls. Free Speech is banned, propaganda replaces news and information is strictly controlled by the state. Dissent is a crime.

Progressives will never lack money. Much of it is tax money sifted through public employee unions, NGO’s, or direct expenditures. These sources are inexhaustible, available on demand. It is judiciously supplemented by Wall St. wheeler/dealers, Hollywood moguls, and tech IPO billionaires.
Neither are progressives distracted by transient issues like climate, abortion, or gender identity all of which are bent to fit 'The Agenda.'. If this were 1950, Jeremy Corbyn or Bernie Sanders would be a Stalinist. The only reason they talks about pensions, health care, equal rights is because Stalin has not yet been rehabilitated.

Five Lingering Questions About The Bizarre Paul Pelosi Attack

There's a good chance the attack happened exactly as the media and left-wing politicians are reporting it. But I've also identified five questions everyone should be anxiously awaiting the answers to.

Everybody was stunned on Friday morning when news broke that the 82 year old husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had been assaulted inside of his home early in the morning with a hammer.

The shock and awe grew after it seemed to become clear that the assailant was looking for the Speaker of the House herself - the third in line to the Presidency.

An assailant broke into the home and asked "Where's Nancy? Where's Nancy?”, according to NBC in the Bay Area.

San Francisco police Chief Bill Scott called it an “intentional” attack:

"This was not a random attack. This was intentional. And it's wrong. Our elected officials are here to do the business of their cities, their counties, and their states, and this nation. Their families don't sign up for this -- to be harmed. And it's wrong."

As such, DePape is now facing charges of attempted murder and other felonies.

I wholly condemn the attack, as I do all violence (especially political violence).

“This is an outrage and our hearts are with the entire Pelosi family. ⁦We pray Paul will make a full recovery,” former VP Mike Pence Tweeted this weekend.

And though I am hardly a fan of Ted Cruz, I think he said it best when he wrote on Twitter this weekend:

“We can have our political differences, but violence is always wrong & unacceptable.”

It is not in any way in dispute that Pelosi was attacked violently and wound up in the hospital as a result of his injuries.

It is also not in dispute that 911 was called and dispatcher Heather Grimes had the intuition to order a wellness check at the household based on what she heard. Her intuition may very well have saved Pelosi’s life, and she should be commended for it.

Politicians on the left wasted absolutely no time attributing the Pelosi attack to “The Republican Party” and “far right white nationalists”.

And, as Glenn Greenwald writes on Sunday morning, it’s “very possible that the instantly formed media narrative…will be proven true”.

For example, Hillary Clinton said on Saturday:

“The Republican Party and its mouthpieces now regularly spread hate and deranged conspiracy theories. It is shocking, but not surprising, that violence is the result. As citizens, we must hold them accountable for their words and the actions that follow.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar Tweeted out on Saturday that the attacker, DePape, was a “far right white nationalist”:

“A far right white nationalist tried to assassinate the Speaker of the House and almost killed her husband a year after violent insurrectionists tried to find her and kill her in the Capitol, and the Republican Party’s response is to either ignore it or belittle it.”

President Joe Biden, with seemingly little to no evidence, attributed the attack to 2020 election deniers

“You can’t just say, feel badly about the violence, we condemn it. Condemn what produces the violence.

This talk produces the violence. The generic point I want to make is it’s one thing to condemn the violence but you can’t condemn the violence unless you condemn those people who continue to argue the election was not real, that it’s being stolen.”

While these politicians may ultimately prove to be right, it’s worth noting that there are some basic journalistic gaps in the story that need to be answered.

The first question we are left to wonder is the obvious: what was DePape’s true motivation?

Both sides in the media have painted the assailant in different lights. For example, Politico wrote that “he subscribed to the discredited narrative that the 2020 presidential election was illegitimate and espoused a range of bigoted and radical beliefs. He expressed anti-Semitic views and appeared to embrace the QAnon movement, which posits a secret cabal of pedophiles has been protected by people in power.”

But then there was this NY Post opinion piece (and Substack post) by Michael Shellenberger, which noted that “DePape lived with a notorious local nudist in a Berkeley home, complete with a Black Lives Matter sign in the window and an LGBT rainbow flag, emblazoned with a marijuana symbol, hanging from a tree”.

DePape’s neighbors said of him:

“What I know about the family is that they’re very radical activists. They seem very left. They are all about the Black Lives Matter movement. Gay pride. But they’re very detached from reality. They have called the cops on several of the neighbors, including us, claiming that we are plotting against them. It’s really weird to see that they are willing to be so aggressive toward somebody else who is also a lefty.”

Finally, on Sunday it was reported that DePape’s ex and purported former life partner Oxane Taub, told Fox News that he used to be left-leaning:

"When I met him, he was only 20 years old , and he didn't have any experience in politics, and he was very much in alignment with my views, and I've always been very progressive. I absolutely admire Nancy Pelosi."

Possible explanation: It is possible that these leaders on the left are correct. There is also the possibility that DePape’s mental faculties were lacking - or that something entirely different was taking place. We should know when DePape enters his defense what his side of the story is.

The second question is: who is the unidentified person that let law enforcement into the home the morning of the break-in?

Politico reported early this weekend that there was apparently a third person in the home at the time of the incident:

David DePape forced his way into the home through a back entrance, Scott said. Officers arrived at the house, knocked on the front door and were let inside by an unknown person. They discovered DePape and Pelosi struggling for a hammer, and after they instructed them to drop the weapon, Scott said, DePape took the hammer and “violently attacked” Pelosi.

Possible explanation: Was it a housekeeper? Live-in staff? Body cam footage should make this clear.

A third question relates to whether or not it is normal for glass to be on the outside of the home due to a forced entry into the home.

It was reported that the suspect, not law enforcement, entered through the sliding glass door. ABC News wrote:

“The break in at Nancy Pelosi’s house is suspected to be targeted, law enforcement sources tell ABC News. The suspect allegedly entered the house through a sliding glass door, carrying a hammer, and was apparently looking for the House Speaker herself.”

Putting aside that these appear to be french doors, and not sliding glass doors, one must then ask if this is the point of entry in question.

The opinion of D. W. Wilber, who has “over thirty years of experience in Security and Counterterrorism as a former Intelligence Officer serving with the Central Intelligence Agency and the Department of Defense in Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, and law enforcement,” was that the glass on the outside of the door was an anomaly.

Possible explanation: Perhaps these weren’t the doors in question during the attack, or perhaps the door was broken from the inside out during the struggle and was not the point of entry.

Which brings us to the fourth unanswered question, which was whether or not there was security in, or around, the house the night of the incident.

Lawyer Harmeet K. Dhillion wrote on Twitter this weekend that there were “multiple law enforcement officers” on the perimeter of Pelosi’s home when they tried to serve a lawsuit there.

“My firm served a lawsuit against Paul Pelosi one time in SF after attempting to serve at other residences—Napa, Georgetown. They weren’t home, but staff were, & multiple law enforcement officers were on the perimeter. Break-in is odd given this level of security."

And as Glenn Greenwald pointed out this weekend, there’s also the fifth question of how Paul Pelosi was able to take a bathroom break in the midst of an attack.

Greenwald is right when he says it “requires more scrutiny” after Politico reported that Pelosi told the intruder “he had to go use the bathroom” in the midst of the break-in. From there, Pelosi was apparently able to dial 911 from a phone that he had left charging…in the bathroom.

The very same Politico article that pointed out the bathroom break also noted that the 911 dispatcher thought there was “something more to [the 911 call]”.

You can listen to the call here and decide for yourself. Was Pelosi speaking in code to try and get a message to the operator - and not DePape - that he was in distress?

Or, when the operator said there was “something more” to the call, was she referring to something else?

There’s a good chance the media and politicians are right and this attack was an abhorrent, politically motivated violent act and, again, I strongly condemn violence of all types, especially political violence.

But there are also several gaping holes in the story that I think good ole’ fashioned journalism - and probably some police body camera footage - will shed some much needed light on.

I’ll leave you with a quote from Elon Musk, who noted on Sunday morning in response to Hillary Clinton that there’s “a tiny possibility there might be more to this story than meets the eye”.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
