Mad Miliband and Labour Loonies Wants To Turn Thousands Of Square Miles Of Productive Agricultural Land Into Wind and Solar Farms

Earlier this weekthe UK's Energy Secretary, swivel eyed Net Zero fanatic and bacon sandwich regurgitator extraordinaire Ed Miliband unveiled the Government’s new Clean Power Action Plan. Despite Minibrained claiming the plan would attract “£40 billion per year” of private investment, Mad Ed's hyperactive and arrogant performances on social and news media were made to look even more ridiculous because thy arrived in tandem with a dollop of bad news which his plan (and mainsteam media, has completely ignored. 

This intransigence – the characteristic of all those claiming to be “climate champions” – combined with the very clear messages from physical and economic reality, amounts to a perfect storm. If the weather doesn’t kill us, Ed Miliband will.

The month began with Storm Darragh, showing us once more that the weather is neither our friend cannot be tamed, regardless of  what climate scientists' mathematical models say or whether global warming is influencing it or not. In the aftermath, millions of UK households were left without power after winds of up to 90mph tore down transmission lines. And as we all know (or ought to by now,) in winds of such strength wind turbines have to be turned off to prevent the nacelles overheating and catching fire and the hugely expensive and non - recycleable vanes being damaged.

Most symbolic of all when discussing theglobalist response to the alleged threat of climate change, the bad weather (for that is all it was) destroyed a new 50MW solar farm in Anglesey, North Wales. Yet Miliband’s plan involves intalling more solar panels and wind turbines and more pylons to ferry expensive, weather-dependent and weather-sensitive power around the country. 

However last week was a very bad week for the Minister with the task of guaranteeling “Energy Security” for British business and domestic consumers.

Yesterday The Guardian reported that Ed Miliband has pledged to bring in “the most ambitious reforms to the country’s energy system in generations” as he presses ahead with plans to accelerate the development of onshore windfarms in England.

As Watts Up With That noted, even The Guardian is concerned about Miliband’s “renewable” energy plans.  The Guardian said, “The plans come as low wind and solar power generation forced Britain to rely heavily on burning gas and wood pellets. As of Thursday, about 65% of Britain’s electricity was being generated from gas and biomass, with only 5.3% coming from wind.”

True and that wasn't even the worst of last week's windless days for the sustainable energy gang. As this screenshot from gridwatch.co.uk shows (if you enlarge it) on December 12 wind speeds were so low that at times we were only getting 2% of our energy from wind (the light blue bar) and a similar amount from solar (the yellow band just below wind.)

Now there is no argument that in suitable weather conditions wind can generate over 50% of our electricity use, but what happens on days like December 12 when Mad Milliband has closed all the gas fired power stations (the darker yellow bar representing the source of over 60% of our electricity as he has pledged to do by 2030. The greay bar at the top, BTW, is nuclear (10%), and Bonkers-in-the-Ed plans to close our remaining nukes too.

Earlier today, The Telegraph reported that Miliband is plotting a massive expansion of solar voltaics.  Data suggests up to a billion solar panels will be fitted across Britain by 2035 under Miliband’s plan to hit his net zero target. FFS does the idiot not know this in Britain, a land not famous for endless sunshine.

“The Energy Secretary’s proposals will carpet the country with panels covering an estimated 750 sq miles, a bigger area than Greater London. Assuming the average solar panel is two square metres, this would mean as many as a billion are needed. Up to 5,000 wind turbines will also be built,” The Telegraph said.

Figures released by the Government on Friday showed that Middle England will be hit hardest by the solar blitz, with the most panels to be installed in an area stretching from Lincolnshire to South Wales plus the West Country, where Mr. Miliband’s plan envisages 200-300 square miles of solar panels.

For East Anglia and the South East, around London, up to 150 sq miles of panels would be needed.

Much of the expansion will be in the form of solar farms on English and Welsh farmland.

Britain sites between 51° to 60° North. In winter, when people really need home heating, Britain receives around 7 hours (or less) of sunlight. Much of the time in winter the sky is overcast, sometimes whole months can go by when you barely see the Sun. The wind is also unreliable in winter – some of the coldest winter nights have no wind at all.

All of this should be obvious to anyone who has lived in Britain. If even places like sunny Australia can’t get solar and wind energy to work well enough to replace coal and gas, a nation as far North as Britain has no hope.

It must be obvious to anybody with more brain cells testicles or tits (as the case may be,) that trying to engage with Miliband and the rest of the green loons using science and reasoned argument to point out that the climate alarmism has no basis in fact is a complete waste of time , and the attempt to 'transition' our world to clean, green power has already failed because the chosen technologies, wind and solar, are just not up to the task. This isn’t because Minibrained and his cronies are thick, cretinous or mad as many of us have observed – it is because they are quasi - religious zealots carrying out orders received from a cabal of billionaire psychopaths with almost unlimited funds to spend in order to extract even more billions from British taxpayers as they work to implement their globalist, authoritarian agenda; doubtless his reward will far exceed the traditional thirty pieces of silver.

 His determined indifference to the suffering and anxiety his policies are causing points to his being a sociopath, certainly, and the sooner he is removed from post – along with anyone similarly afflicted, which probably covers most of the government – the better.

World's Biggest Floating Solar Farm Smashed By Storm

 While on one of our regular long lunch breaks earlier this week we Boggart Bloggers got to thinking about the history of this blog. Although it did not do much  its first few years because we used it to give inward links to our main Boggart Blog on the now defunct blog.co.uk platform, even in those early days we dedicated out content to questioning narratives, challenging politicised science, polititicised justice and polititicised public services.

And we tried to warn about the various scams and psyops being used by governments to keep the people in a state of fear and so avoid a series of popular uprisings against the apparent mismanagement of government policy (the chaos in global politics, the economy, health, foreign policy and energy security is not down to incompetence, it has been created deliberately,) while globalist supra national bureaucracies gather more power and further erode the freedoms and prosperity previous generations worked and fought so hard to gain.

One of the scams we have consistently warned of  is the 'sustainable cheap energy' scam which involves the developed nations abandoning secure, reliable sources of energy such as coal, gas and nuclear ans instead generating all of the huge amounts of electricity needed to keep a modern nation running from wind turbines and solar panels which are intermitterent sources dependent on the vagaries of weather and vulnerable to hostile weather events.

Madhya Pradesh: Summer Storm Damages World’s Largest Floating Solar Plant at Omkareshwar Dam (Watch Video)

Indore: A summer storm on Tuesday damaged a floating solar plant at Madhya Pradesh’s Omkareshwar dam. The floating solar plant, situated in the backwater of the dam, is the biggest of its kind in the world. A joint venture between  Madhya Pradesh Govt and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), the project was nearly completed and ready for its launch. A part of the project became operational last week.

The project near the village of Kelwa Khurd, aimed at generating 100 MW of electricity, with additional capacities of 88MW at Indawadi and 90 MW at Ekhand village. However, on Tuesday, summer storms with the speed of 50kmph hit the project and threw the solar panels all around the place. No employee was fortunately injured.

The technical issues with using an intermittent energy source to meet a constant need have been dealt with so many times it has become boring but an issue covered less often is the fragility of these strange gadgets. But it seems mainstream media are waking up to it at last, as a story reported by The Daily Mail demonstrates:

Loud crashes are heard as the debris lands on the ground, while bare trees surrounding the lone turbine are blown back and forth.

Just for good measure, the decapitated wind turbine then burst into flames:

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted to reports of a fire within a wind turbine at 10.28am on Wednesday, 27 December near Newhouse Farm, Sorn.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene, the fire was extinguished prior to the arrival of firefighters.

“The crew left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

The Crippling Cost of Green Energy Subsidies

The green energy subsidies in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) have been justified by the Biden Administration as a booster of U.S. economic growth and jobs.  But when the subsidies are tallied and the overall impacts evaluated, the IRA is a job and economic growth killer. 

Under the IRA, the lion’s share of subsidies will be paid to wind and solar developers.  The subsidies will not expire until electric industry carbon emissions fall by at least 75% below 2005 levels, after which they will gradually decrease.  Even the most optimistic forecasts prepared by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) show that this will not occur until at least 2046.  Thus, the subsidies for wind and solar will continue unabated for decades.  In total, the subsidies will far exceed what the U.S. government spent in today’s dollars to combat the Great Depression.

The single largest subsidy is the federal investment tax credit (ITC).  Most wind and solar projects will be able to claim a minimum 30% ITC, plus be eligible for an additional 10% credit if the projects rely on domestic manufacturing for components.  

The EIA’s optimistic forecast projects about 900,000 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaics, 350,000 MW of onshore wind turbines, and 24,000 MW of offshore wind by 2046.  If all of this generation is built, it will result in direct ITC subsidies totaling between $500 billion and $1 trillion, depending on construction costs.  The greater the costs, the larger the subsidies.  Although wind and solar proponents still claim costs are falling, the reality is the opposite. ... Destroying The Planet To Save It

In the unthinking stampede of politicians and 'scientists' towards achieving 'Net Zero' and thus 'saving the planet’ from death by human civilisation, perhaps a reality check is long overdue for the delusional Green Blob and the virtue signalling politicians. In order to save the planet from a largely imaginary threat based on an ideology behind which there is very little scientific and absolutely zero empirical evidence.

And as if that was not enough to make any sane person stop and think, the solutions proposed by the Green Blob, apart from being so expensive they would destroy every functioning national economy on the planet, are going to be more damaging to the planet than continuing to burn coal and gas as our main source of energy and fuel out vehicles with oil.  The Blob propose abandoning this reliable, consistent source in favour of intermittent, unreliable sources, primarily wind and solar powered generators. The Boggart Bloggers have written on the shortcomings of these technologies many times.

A small, clean, green, and utterly reliant on the vagaries of the weather, 100-megawatt wind farm needs 30,000 tons of iron ore; 50,000 tons of concrete and 900 tons of non-recyclable plastic.

For the same power from an ever-so-green solar farm you need to increase those figures by 150 per cent.

An battery pack for a small electric car weighs half a ton, to make just one requires the mining of 250 tons of bedrock somewhere on the planet, and the smelting and refining processes consume vast amounts of energy mostly derived from oil, natural gas and coal.

All these 'clean, green, renewable' methods of generation require what are called ‘rare earth metals,' which are actually quite plentiful but occur in such low concentrations that separating them from the ores in which they are found makes them phenomenally expensive, as well as resulting in vast quantities of toxic shite (including cyanide, arsenic, nitric and hydrochloric acid,) so a phenomenal 2000 tons of toxic waste is produced and most of it is dumped in the environment, just to produce one ton of the any of the rare earth metals needed to make wind turbines, solar panels or lithium ion batteries. On top of all this, processing and shipping is required to the developed nations, and this is usually provided from companies based in from unregulated regimes (e.g. Liberia,) with very lax environmental standards.

As mentioned above Solar and wind generation is limited by its dependence on weather conditions, another issue we have commented on many times, but we need energy ALL the time, so we have to have permanent back-up of a type that can kick in instantly because both cloud cover and wind speeds can change very quickly and it is not possible to turn a key or press a button and start a combined cycle gas generator they way we start our car or switch on the vacuum cleaner.

And then there is the land requirement because the amount of productive land lost to production of food due to the spread of 'renewables' is astounding.

To accommodate 2,000 MW of gas or nuclear power generation requires the same area of two 18-hole golf courses. Whereas, accommodating 2,000 MW of wind power requires an area the size of Belgium!

Then, of course, you still need 2,000 MW of gas or nuclear power to accommodate those hundreds of occasions each year when wind and solar power is producing absolutely nothing.

One of the proposed solutions is to build vast battery farms to store surplus energy when wind and sunshine give us a surplus, but apart from their not being enough known lithium reserves in the world to provide adequate backup for just on developed nation, a statistic I read recently claims the giant Tesla factory in Nevada would take 500 years to make enough batteries to supply the USA with electricity for 1 day!

After 30 years of development and countless billions of £$€ in grants, subsidies and incentive payments, wind and solar still supply less than 5 per cent of the world’s energy. You may have seen screaming headlines in mainstream media proclaiming that on a particular day 'renewables' generated over 50% of the UK's consumed electricity, b.ut contrast that with the deafening silence when on cold, windless winter days when solar and wind between then provide less than 5%.

On top of that, in common with all technology, wind turbines and solar panels  are built from non-renewable materials, and they break down, parts wear out or break and have to be replaced time and time again, so installation is definitely not a one-off cost.

Instead of ‘saving the planet’ the Green Blob and their rampaging renewables are actually devouring it!
