A Dutch journalist has claimed that Germany is now a “total dictatorship”. This may seem like a case of the pot calling the kettle black given the Dutch government's plan to evict up to 3000 farmer from their land and return those acreages 'to nature' in a bid to lead the way among EU member states, to enforce total compliance with the latest loonytoons EU climate policy which requires EU members to reduce that dangerous pollutant nitrogen, which accounts for 78% of the air we breathe

The sad truth is that anyone living under the governments of the risibly misnamed 'liberal democracies' is currently living under and experiencing a “total dictatorship.” The ruling elites have declared war on the populations they govern and (theoretically) serve. Both the Carbon Dioxide scare and this latest campaign of fear about nitrogen are part of the war on food. The current energy crisis, which has been engineered deliberately is a war on healthy, comfortable living and on industry, the rapibly escalationg cost - of - living and accompanying food shortages, again deliberately engineered are an attack on prosperity and the war in Ukrain which could easily have been avoided is a deadly distraction from the mess we are really in.

Sonja van den Ende, a Dutch journalist said as much when she commented that Western nations have used talways believed were included in our inalienable human rights (Geneva Convention of 1948)

The Biggest Obstacle To Real Freedom Is The Belief That We Already Have It

The European Union is reportedly planning to target Russian media channels with the upcoming ninth sanctions package, freezing the assets of ANO TV-Novosti, RT’s parent company, and revoking licenses from those few outlets which still hold them within the bloc. The online news content published and broadcast by these channels has already been censored through government collaboration with Big Tech.

Press freedom and free speech are now both virtually non-existent on this planet, indeed Klaus Schwab, leader of the neo - Nazi World Economic Forum recently said that his follower have inflitrated all media organisations and the institutions of state. How true this is we may never know but the evidence that his claim has some substance is vidsible and audible every day in the propaganda we see, hear and read.

Just When We Need It Most, Renewable Energy Disappears

In an encouraging sign of a great awakening, million of people in the UK are now, after a week of brutally cold, absolutely windless weather asking "Why have we wasted so much money on wind turbines and harvesting solar energy." 

Yet when politicians are asked directly: "How do we keep the lights on and our homes warm when the wind does not blow and the sun is too low in the sky to make much impression on photovoltaic cells that do the business in solar panels? They start to waffle about the impending climate catastrophe, the importance of achieving net zero and the urgency of reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions. There has been an  almost universal enthusiasm in business, finance and politics to finance more wind farms. We were told we would get more than half our power from renewables. On a warn,breezy day in high summer when demand is at its lowest this is sort of true. I say sort of because it really depends on how on defines 'renewables'. However on the coldest day of 2022, in mid December only two weeks from the end of the year, a windless day on which in all but a few small areas of Britain the temperature did not rise above freezing point at any time and wind turbines contributed only 3% of our electricity supply.

The electricity companies made up the shortfall by importing enery from France's nuclear power stations and  bringing online coal and gas fired stations, ostensibly shut down in pursuit of impossible 'net zero'  targets, set by one of the recent COP climate conferences when thirty thousand or so delegates from the worlds of politics, business and academia fly, many by private jet, to some exclusive resort and amply supplies with gourmet food, fine wines and high class prostitutes to keep their minds sharp and focused,  decide what sacrifices the rest of us must make in the cause of 'saving the planet.'

The stated capacity of UK wind turbines is over 25 GW, which compares to demand on a cold day of a little over 45 GW. However that 25GW is a notional figure, dependent on ideal wind conditions prevailing over the whole of Britain. In reality all the wind turbines in Britain rarely supply as much as 25% of our electricity and much more often they do not even provide 10%.

This autumn and winter we have lived through periods of little wind, when the wind electricity output can be as low as 1 per cent of our total needs despite having theoretical capacity for many times that. Whenlack of wind coincides with cold, dark evenings and mornings when there is no solar power either, the power companies have to turn up output from gas and our few remaining coal generators which are designated as standby systems because amid all the hype for wind and renewables and the worship of St Greta of Thunberg somebody had the foresight to anticipate such situations.

Ever since 2005 when this blog and its stablemates Boggart Blog and The Daily Stirrer were born I and my colleagues, three old gits who have vast experience in busines, finance and engineering and still have all our marbles (well as many of them as we ever had,) have been warning of the technical and practical shortcomings of 'green energy generation' and anticipating such situations as have been experiences in the past few days. What we did not anticipate was the war in Ukraine and the diastrous sanctions imposed on Russian oil and gas by NATO member states. Unfortunately the response of of Russia this year to the genocide of ethnic Russians in Ukraine by the neo - nazi nutters in Kiev has led to an ban on the gas imports that sustained Germany and Italy, leaving the EU trying to cut energy use to match the shortfall in supply so having shut down our North Sea gas wells and the massive Rough storage facility in pursuit of 'Net Zero' we have nowhere to turn

There have always been problems with adding too much wind power to our system. Much of the wind power is best generated offshore in Scotland where there is availability and on good days  more wind. This needs an enlarged high voltage network to bring it south to where it can be consumed, with losses of up to 30% along the way. Too much intermittent renewable power fed into the system makes the necessary balancing of the grid more difficult, with more need for back up generation that can be available almost instantly if the wind drops. Relying on European imports does not work when the EU is also experiencing a cold period with little wind, especially if enough of the ageing French fleet of nuclear power stations continue to struggle to stay open. 

Import dependence is also bad in other ways. It means exporting well paid jobs. It means paying large taxes on energy away to a foreign treasury instead of keeping them at home to pay some of the NHS bills. It gives the UK less control over energy when there are supply constraints that need managing. 

The first aim of energy policy should be to ensure the security of supply, with the industry and regulators ensuring a useful surplus over normal maximum demand from domestic stations. The second should be to keep electricity and domestic heating fuel affordable for consumers by developing a system which always used the cheapest power available. The distant third was  concern for the environmental because while mathematical models predict doom and gloom (don't they always?,) there is little real world evidence that Carbon Dioxide emissions from human activity have a significant effect on the climate. 

In the first decade after privatisation, a time when I worked as an Information Technology consultant in the industry, the power companies made huge advances, replacing old coal stations where only around a third of the underlying energy emerged as electrical current with clean coal technologies that were more efficient and also removed the really nasty pollutants such as Sulphur Dioxide, and building gas-fuelled combined cycle stations that improved energy efficiency by more than half, allowing cheaper prices and a much cleaner output. There was plenty of margin for cold days when something went wrong with a power station or two. 

The current Government has wisely said it is going to make national security of supply a main aim again but will they stick to this pledge when the ecoloons and baxk to nature brigade start screaming. If they intend to do so it will require plenty of stand-by power for when the wind does not blow and as power stations cannot be started as quickly as a car having wind as a primary source which gas or coal as back up means keeping those fossil fuel stations running with their output going down to earth. This is an absolutely insane business model, the money spent on ensuring the security of our electricity supply would be wasted because the politicians are too vain and the scientists to arrogant and stupid to admit that for the past thirty years they have been wrong.

'Scientists' (always wrong about everything,) tell us that investment in battery storage on a huge scale  will allow us to keep wind turbine electricity from windy days to manage windless ones, however stored power tends to dissipiate quickly, batteries are hideously expensive and lithium (currently the raw material for the most energy efficient batteries,) is highly volatile and tends to spontaneously combust, triggering unquenchable fire that can burn without oxygen and cannot be quenched with water. 

Greta Thunberg can go to hell, gas and oil will still be around when she gets there.

An almost complete news blackout from Brazil has been in operation since early October after evidence of serious election fraud by supporters of Pressident elect Luiz Ignation Lula da Silva had swayed the vote in favoutr of the communist candidate and former jailbird. The Madness Goes On - USA Considers Sending Patriot Missiles To Ukraine Risking Major Escalation Of Conflict

 

We're hearing from across the pond that a number of US Department of Defense officials including at least one member of the Biden administration, that the White House is currently finalizing plans to supply the sophisticated Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine.

"The Biden administration is finalizing plans to send the Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine that could be announced as soon as this week, according to two US officials and a senior administration official," CNN reported.

If this latest insanity goes ahead it couple be the tipping point that escalates the so far local conflict into a confrontation between military superpowers. Installing Patriots in Ukrain would give the neo - Nazi nutters in Kiev unprecedented ability to launch attacks on targets deep inside Russia. The missiles, intended for use against airborne targets, would be the longest-range missiles sent to Ukraine thus far and could easily be adapted to strike terrestrial targets.

Washington has so far been reluctant to supply long range missiles, despite Kiev officials since nearly the start of the invasion making almost daily pleas pleas for the US to help "close the sky" - as President Zelensky many months ago urged Congress by providing long range ground to air missiles, and piloted, nuclear capable aircraft .

Patriots are deployed in neighboring Poland, but Ukrainian leaders have been clamouring to have the missile systems them on their own soil amid a major escalation in recent Russian aerial attacks targeting electricity, water and telecommunications infrastructure. Former UK prime minister Boris Johnson,, one of the top salesmen for World War Three this week urged in a Wall Street Journal article that the West supply Patriots and other anti-air systems even including military aircraft. Supplying them would help "bring the war to an end as soon as possible", Johnson claimed.

 Moscow is unlikely to react positively to the this latest provocation, which could result in more intense and escalatory airstrikes on Ukrainian cities, and command and control bases. Washington, for its part will likely emphasize the purely "defensive" nature of the Patriot systems, although as Russia has not made use of its air superiority and is using Kamikaze drones which fly below the radar is is difficult to see what Ukrainian forced could defend with them.

The Club Of Rome At 50 Years Old

I used to believe the following tenets of the Club of Rome. I did so for about four years (from the age of 22 to 26) until I woke up from ecodoomism. It is apparent that millions have been sucked into this cult and have never found a way out. Yet. Indeed, eco-doomism is the world’s leading cause of depression, suicide, sexual ambiguity,  non-replacement and cultural anomie. It is immediately the cause of policies designed to immiserate the population (viz. Dutch government putting farms out of business to control world atmospheric nitrogen levels).

Here are the doctrines of the Club of Rome, circa 1972. Look familiar?

“The Limits to Growth” contains six main messages:

1. Firstly, that the environmental impact of human society had become heavier between 1900 and 1972 due to both an increase in the number of humans and the amount of resources consumed and pollution generated per person per year.

2. That our planet is physically limited, and that humanity cannot continue to use more physical resources and generate more emissions than nature is capable of supplying in a sustainable manner. In addition, it will not be possible to rely on technology alone to solve the problem as this would only delay reaching the carrying capacity of the planet by a few years.

Pentagon Gives Tacit Support For Ukraine Drone Strikes Deep Inside Russia

The Pentagon has given its tacit endorsement of Ukrainian attacks inside Russian territory and no longer fears such operations could lead to a "dramatic" Russian escalation, The Times reported on Friday, citing unnamed US defense officials. The US position appears to only be based on the fact that up to this point, Russia hasn’t responded to attacks on its territory with nuclear weapons or by attacking NATO countries.

The Times report reads: "Moscow’s revenge attacks have to date all involved conventional missile strikes against civilian targets. Previously, the Pentagon was warier of Ukraine attacking Russia because it feared the Kremlin would retaliate either with tactical nuclear weapons or by targeting neighboring NATO nations."

Large fires at the Transneft Bryansk-Druzhba facility in Bryansk, about 70 miles from the Ukrainian border, believed have resulted from a Ukrainian cross-border operation, via The Telegraph.

The report came after Ukrainian drone attacks hit Russian air bases deep inside Russian territory, including one that killed three Russian soldiers and damaged two Russian bombers. Following the attacks, Russian missiles pounded Ukrainian energy infrastructure, worsening the already dire situation for millions of Ukrainian civilians who are without power and heat in freezing temperatures.

Russia didn’t start launching large-scale attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure until October, after the truck bombing of the Kerch Bridge, which connects Crimea to the Russian mainland. US officials previously said that they support Ukrainian attacks on Crimea.

US scientists achieve ‘holy grail’ net gain nuclear fusion reaction

US scientists have reportedly carried out the first nuclear fusion experiment to achieve a net energy gain, a major breakthrough in a field that has been pursuing such a result since the 1950s, and a potential milestone in the search for a climate-friendly, renewable energy source to replace fossil fuels.

The experiment took place in recent weeks at the government-funded Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, where researchers used a process known as inertial confinement fusion, the Financial Times reports, citing three people with knowledge of the experiment’s preliminary results.

The test involved bombarding a pellet of hydrogen plasma with the world’s largest laser to trigger a nuclear fusion reaction, the same process which takes place in the sun.

Researchers were able to produce 2.5 megajoules of energy, 120 per cent of the 2.1 megajoules used to power the experiment. ... Continue reading >>>

Europe's Cold Spell Exposes Green Energy Policy Failure

As the sanction on imports of oil and gas from Russia, imposed in March 2022 with the aim of 'bringing the Russian economy to its knees' in retribution for the invasion of Ukraine,  have in fact achieved the opposite of what was intended with the Russian economy sustained by sales of its hydrocarbons to China, India, South East Asia, Africa and South America, while Europe struggles with rocketing energy prices and fuel shortages, the combined effect of those ill - considered sanctions and the loonytoons 'net zero' energy policies are  about to bite even harder.

So far the autumn of 2022 has been unusually mild which has had the eco-warriors and CO2phobes geting very worked up and gluing their arses to motorways and airport runways in support of their demand that we stop using oil immediately. However winter temperatures across Europe predictably dropped sharply in late November and through most of December to date have been positively arctic.

Scientists have offered the utterly amazing opinion that in view of this cold weather spell the ongoing European gas crisis is now “likely” to worsen significantly as a winter progresses and more usual seasonal weather spreads across the northern half of the continent, bringing with it an increased need for domestic heating.

Polictians and the media are placing all the blame for shortages and soaring rices on Russia, but a large part of the blame lies with our spineless politicians who for the sake of 'green' virtue signalling  made Europe almost entirely reliant on extremely reliant on Russian gas and oil exports while they pursued the idiotic policies like 'net zero' and a complete transition to sustainable sources of energy for electricity generation. While leaders have been appeasing the noisy but unrepresentative green lobby, Europe has been struggling with serious energy shortfalls issues since the start of the Ukraine war earlier this year. It seems neither the politicians, the ecoloons, not the climate scientists can get their extremely thick skulls around the fact that wind turbines do not generate a single watt of power when the wind blows as less than 16Kmph or above 45 Kmph. And solar panels are useless on average 12 hours per day throughout the year. 

  has put together a nice graphic showing the problem with relying on wind power. While supporters of wind power like to claim that wind turbines now generate over 50% of our electricity, by cherry picking the days with the best wind conditions and highlighting them, this graph shows that while UK energy demand is a steady 40 Gw, in the first full week of December 2022, when the days were almost windless and temperatures stayed below freezing night and day, wind turbines generated a mere 2% of that 40 Gw.

Apart from the fact that winds contribution to our electricity supply is a lot lower than the green loons in parliament and media would have us believe, the two things to note are the alarming troughs in output during periods of low wind and the way output drops just as the weather turns significantly colder towards the end of the month.

The unseasonably warm weather in Autumn 2022  up until recently  has so far helped reduce the need to burn ever-costlier gas to heat homes, temperatures across northern Europe have now dropped significantly as a result of an arctic air blast.

According to a report in The Guardian, the UK has seen temperatures plunger to below zero, with freezing fog, ice and snow causing problems throughout the country, while similar warnings have also been issued in neighbouring Ireland. This not unusual December weather pattern is likely to drive energy usage up significantly across the north of the continent over the coming days. We can only hope the government and energy companies have a few North Sea gas platforms ready to bring back into production, to hell with Extinction Rebellion, Greta Thunberg & Co.

As of Friday 9 December, EU gas storage was about 85% full, and being drawn down at 0.5% a day. That will almost certainly increase during the week on a combination of more use for heating and more use for power generation as the wind stays still in a period of cold Dunkelflaute affecting most of the Continent. The European Union still hopes to reach its goal of having at least 90% of its gas storage capacity filled by the end of the year. However, even at those storage levels, that’s only around 22.5% of its annual consumption.

With gas supplies so uncertain the immediate problem becomes electricity supply. The UK, which gets around 50% of its electricity fron gas powered turbines is forecasting a shortfall of over 1.5GW for the coming week at the moment. Reducing that will depend on being able to secure imports from the Continent. It starts to become an interesting question as to how much will be available. Meanwhile in Sweden, the unexpected shutdown of a big nuclear plant is leading to threats of shortage that may be difficult to cover by imports. In slightly better news, some French nuclear plants have returned to operation following maintenance. But they are still a long way down on normal.

The arrival of winter is also extremely bad news for Germany, where gas rationing has been in force in some areas for several months. The government has already been warned that it could completely run out of gas by the end of next February should extremely cold temperatures interfere with its aim to cut gas consumption by one-fifth compared to last year

It is acknowledged that the country is unlikely to get through this winter without more rationing measures and rolling blackouts, and German business groups say the impact of the energy crisis is likely to last years, and could possibly result in the destruction of German manufacturing.

While some of Europe’s wealthier people may be able to jet off to the ski slopes to enjoy the cold weather, the sudden shift towards below-freezing temperatures will likely result in serious hardship for many less well off people. With huge numbers across the continent already struggling under increased heating, electricity and food costs, the decrease in temperature is likely to require them to either turn up their thermostats at the expense of their wallets or risk freezing in order to stay fed. Over half of households in the United Kingdom reported to have already cut back on the number of meals they eat per day.
