The Truth Of What Is Going On In Syria

The public in those nations involved directly or peripherally in the Syrian war are not being told the truth of what is going on in that country, and have not been told the truth since hostilities began in 1011. We have tried to report this many times on our main news site The Daily Stirrer, which gets a respectable but unspectacular 10 - 15 thousand views per day (this blog is insignificant, after neglecting it for years we are trying to build it as a replacement for a platform that was very good for us but closed in December 2015 due to economic conditions).

Other blogger and new media news sites are doing great work in trying to get the truth out to the punters, but mainstream media, controlled by corporate investors whose interests are best served by collaborating with governments, have nothing to gain by telling the truth.

There is no great, universal truth on Syria of course, but many points of view representing different parties. Here's an interesting take on why the major print and broadcast news organisations are not reporting the facts of Syria's catastrophe.

The Deeper Truths Journalists Are Blind To

" - As I have found out myself, there is nothing media outlets like less than criticising other media publications or the “profession” of journalism. It’s not really surprising. The credibility of a corporate media depends precisely on their not breaking ranks and not highlighting the structural constraints a “free press” operates under.

So one has to commend the Boston Globe for publishing this piece by Stephen Kinzer, a former foreign correspondent, warning that the media is not telling us the truth about what is going on in Syria.

But those constraints are also why Kinzer glosses over deeper problems with the coverage of Syria.

This [most western reporting of Syria] is convoluted nonsense, but Americans cannot be blamed for believing it. We have almost no real information about the combatants, their goals, or their tactics. Much blame for this lies with our media.

Under intense financial pressure, most American newspapers, magazines, and broadcast networks have drastically reduced their corps of foreign correspondents. Much important news about the world now comes from reporters based in Washington. In that environment, access and credibility depend on acceptance of official paradigms. Reporters who cover Syria check with the Pentagon, the State Department, the White House, and think tank ‘experts.’ After a spin on that soiled carousel, they feel they have covered all sides of the story. This form of stenography produces the pabulum that passes for news about Syria.

This is more of the “cock-up, not conspiracy” justification for skewed reporting. If only there was more money, more space, more time, more reporters, the media would not simply spew the government’s official line. Guardian journalist Nick Davies wrote a whole book, Flat Earth News, making much the same claim – what he called “churnalism”. I reviewed it at length here. Journalists like this kind of argument because it shifts responsibility for their failure to report honestly on to faceless penny-pinchers in the accounting department.

And yet, there are journalists reporting from the ground in Syria – for example, Martin Chulov of the Guardian – who have been just as unreliable as those based in Washington. In fact, many of the points Kinzer raises about the reality in Syria echo recent articles by Seymour Hersh, who is writing from the US, not Damascus. But he, of course, has been shunted to the outer margins of media discourse, publishing in the London Review of Books.

Germans Cheer As Refugee Center Burns

Over the past few months, Europeans have become increasingly angered by the wave of mainly Muslim 'refugees' streaming into the European Union from the Mid-East and north Africa, and at the apparent inability of European leaders and bureaucrats to deal with it is any practical way.

After a remarkable degree of restraint and tolerance was demonstrated by residents of EU cities where the refugees are being dumped in hostels, fed, clothed and given spending money, all funded by European taxes,  the attacks that left 130 people dead in Paris in November and the string of sexual assaults that swept Cologne, Germany on New Year’s Eve have been the straw that has broken the camels back. A political stitch up in France saw the anti immigration party Front Nationale kept out of power in regional assemblies despite winning the popular vote, which resulted in FN becoming even more popular in public opinion polls. The German populace had, until this year, remained supportive of Angela Merkel’s “yes we can” approach to settling the 1.1 million asylum seekers that the country took in last year.

In spite of this,  large sections of the German population do not support the migrant cause. The general consensus is no longer to offer teddy bears, water bottles, sandwiches and hugs (possibly due to the graceless way the immigrants threw away the gifts and demanded money and sex.).

Discontent with the Iron Chancellor’s approach is growing and the atmosphere in the streets is very unpleasant. Renewed support for anti - immigration group PEGIDA is emblematic of the direction in which the country is headed and the surging support for AfD, a new political party opposed to mass immigration and further integration of Germany into a federal European Superstate is an indicator of how much trouble Merkel's fragile ruling coalition is in. Last weekend we got the latest evidence that Germany’s patience with the migrants' anti - social behaviour is wearing increasingly thin.

Residents of Bautzen (in Saxony) cheered on Saturday night as a planned migrant center burned in what very well may have been a premeditated arson attack. “Some people reacted to the blaze with derogatory comments and undisguised joy,” Deutsche Welle reports, adding that “the incident in Bautzen comes shortly after a mob shouting anti-migrant slogans blocked a bus full of refugees in Clausnitz, also in Saxony.” Here's the video of the Clausnitz incident:

Saxony's chief minister, Stanislaw Tillich, called both incidents "disgusting and hateful." (We wonder if he thinks the same of the rapes, male rapes, assaults and beatings inflicted on Germans by the migrants, crimes which Hausfrau Volksfuhrer Merkel's office has ordered police to ignore?)

Yes, "disgusting and hateful," which is precisely what the German people are saying about the string of sexual assaults, the urination and defecation in public areas, hassling little girls for sex and pulling womens' clothes off as they walk alone, as well as the threat of Islamic terrorism.

Needless to say, when German citizens are actively attempting to keep firefighters from putting out a blaze, it says something profound about public opinion. Then again, we suppose this isn't anything new. As Deutsche Welle goes on to report, "there were more than 1,000 arson attacks on planned and completed refugee shelters across Germany in 2015."

Perhaps support for Merkel's open-door approach was never that strong in the first place. Germans knew that under the EU bureaucratic dictatorship, as European Parliament President Martin Schulz has said, "Public opinion is irrelevant."

Democrats About To Disintegrate Over Sanders Success.

So Bernie Sanders did not win the Democratic Party Caucus In Nevada. No surprise given Hillary Clinton's supposed popularity among black and 'Hispanic'* voters, what is surprising according to many US political pundits and statistics geeks was that given the huge lead Hillary was given in opinion polls just a few weeks ago, that Bernie came so close to scoring an upset.

More interesting though is that the Democratic Party, the party of race hustlers, identity politics players, sexual minorities, the snip and tuck community and other synthetic demographics, and hand winging, breast beating, attention seeking emotional retards, is about to tear itself apart over the emergence of a feasible candidate who tends to say what he means while the standard for Democrat politicians speaking on controversial issues in recent years has been mealy mouthed equivocation.

Some say the Republican establishment is having daily panic attacks over its frontrunner, a candidate who should be no more than a sideshow, when it comes to Bernie Sanders' surprisingly strong performance to date, the Democrat party is in a similar sort of tizzy. Hillary Clinton's primary campaign, which was supposed to be a procession leading up to the coronation of the anointed one, has been anything but. Sanders stormed New Hampshire, lost Iowa on the toss of six coins (all of which landed heads up - hmmmmmmm), and now has run Hillary close in a state she was expected to win in a canter.

Time for the Democratic Nomination Committee to stick the boot in Sanders you might think. Well they seem to think so to, but they are doing it with all the ham fisted incompetence that has typifies the Obama administrations efforts.

As the Hill reports, a former deputy executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) on Friday lashed out at presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders in a post on Medium titled "Go fuck yourself, Bernie."

The post, by Brandon English, was in response to Sanders implying that rival Hillary Clinton, in praising President Obama, was playing the race card in order to "win support from the African American community where the President is enormously popular."

English, a black American who was profiled two years ago by Politico, emerging as one of the most race obsessed people in US politics, the stereotypical angry black man with not just a chip but a server farm's worth of Intel 4 core, 64 bit processors on his shoulder. English was not happy that anyone at all, let alone a Democratic Party candidate would be criticising the USA's first black president: "It’s not just Black people that love Obama. The President is 'enormously popular' among all Democrats. Welcome to the Party," former DCCC official Brandon English wrote in his post.

"Do you have any idea how belittling it is to reduce Obama to the President that the Blacks like?" English noted that both Sanders and Clinton have been attempting to curry favor among black voters.

If, as English says, it is belittling to reduce Obama to 'The President only blacks like', then why does Obama himself start channeling Richard Pryor when he is addressing an audience of 'black folks'? When I hear him go into that faux ghetto patois I half expect him to start singing "Way down upon de Swannee Ribber".

As an impartial observer, albeit on who in 2008 warned that Obama was backed by neocons, hedge fund controllers and certain foreign governments, (yes I do use the dark web and no, it's not all goat porn, snuff movies and terrorist sites,) all I can say is if English thinks Obama is enormously popular with black voters, my recent reading on US social problems suggests this aparatchik is as deluded as President Obama himself.

Ignorance Is Strength: European Parliament Ready To clamp Down On Free Speech

freedom is slavery,
ignorance is strength"

So wrote George Orwell in his dystopian (but eerily prophetic) novel '1984'. Intelegtuals have puzzled over the meaning of these slogans of 'The English Socialist Party' (INGSOC) for decades (find an answer but not THE ANSWER here).

Needless to say the actual meaning is multi layered, but when we recall that under the Big Brother regime of the novel, social control is maintained through technological surveillance and through the powers granted to The Thought Police, then the latest news to leak out of the European Parliament takes on a far more sinister aspect that one would immediately assume.

We have reported the President of the European Parliament (Gauleiter Martin Schulz) has often publicly expressed his contempt for democracy and said public opinion is irrelevant and voters are too ignorant to understand the issues they are voting on the fact that the EU has three Presidents, Schulz, Jean - Claude Drunkard, President of the EU Commission (the executive branch) and Donald Tusk, President of the EU Council, the committee of national leaders and senior bureaucrats, should tell you everything you need to know about the nature of this bureaucratic dictatorship.

The EU is blatantly pro American, supportive of moves towards global totalitatrian government and opposed to democracy, except for the kind of democratic assembly that merely rubber stamps bureaucrats decisions. Moreover, the EU has well documented designs towards extending 'Europe' into the middle east and north Africa, which makes an insane kind of sense of Hausfrau - Volksfuhrer Merkel's determination to flood Europe with illegal immigrants from those regions.

So what of the EU's latest threat to the right of free speech and free expression?

The European Parliament Subcommittee on Security and Defense is openly Russophobic in accusing Russia of waging an information war, MEP Javier Couso warns.

According to Couso, a recent subcommittee discussion on 'Russian propaganda' and the 'threat posed by Russia' was attended by two NATO officials, one of them being an employee of United States dominated Stratcom – the alliance's Strategic Communications Center.

"We were presented with a report which claimed that Russia and Russian media are lying to the Europeans and seeking to mislead them," Couso told the media. "I disagreed because we, the European citizens, were being told what we should or shouldn't watch." This of course accords with what Boggart Abroad has reported previously about western propaganda demonising Russia to swing public opinion in support of a war President Obama desperately needs.

Cuoso also leaked information that there’s already at least one team tasked with opposing 'Russian propaganda' by using a website and freelance employees to debunk ‘disinformation.’

"They intend to create Russian-language media outlets in order to oppose this 'propaganda', along with European media which would openly denounce journalists working for certain media agencies – for example, RT and Sputnik were mentioned by name – and accuse them of spreading disinformation," the MEP added.

Couso surmised that the goal of Washington and NATO’s appears to be preventing the EU from maintaining friendly relations with Russia.

"The thing is, NATO has made a strategic decision not only to encircle Russia, but to exclude it from Europe’s collective security system. Therefore, all of NATO’s actions – and, unfortunately, those of the EU countries which support the alliance – are aimed at preventing us from enjoying good relations with Russia, all for the US’ benefit," Couso concluded.

Earlier this month, the European External Action Service (EEAS) announced the creation of its Russian-language news website. According to the EEAS, the site will present visitors with a wide assortment of publications on the anti-Russian sanctions, life in Ukraine, and EU efforts in the Middle East, along with the so called 'Disinformation Reviews' compiled by a "mythbusting network" comprised of "over 300 experts, journalists, officials, NGOs and Think Tanks in over 30 countries." As we said, pure propaganda presenting the European and American point of view. Russia of course uses Russia Today and Sputnik to present its point of view. Btween the two we have to use our common sense filters to decide for ourselves what is somewhere near the truth.

Is Bernie Sanders Pulling Clear Of Democrats 'Anointed One' Hillary?

No news of how the Republican primary is shaping up in South Carolina yet, but of course it is quite early in the day over there. Late polls predict another Trump win but by a smaller maging that pollibg has suggested in the week and a half following the New Hampshire Primary.

The only surprise then (if it can be called that, I think most peoples' reaction wil be "So what," is that Jeb bush, eclipsed by other candidates once again is likely to quite the race. Ah well, at least he can say to his Dad and brother, "If the GOP hadn't let that loudmouth Trump run I cudda been a contender."

The really interesting news from an impartial onlookers point of view however is a story from the Democrat camp even though they don't have much going on today.

Offering further proof that it’s “Sanders’ moment,” Bernie Sanders makes enormous gains and poses a real threat to Hillary Clinton’s once-wide lead among Democrats, according to two polls released Friday.

Fox News‘ latest national poll finds that more Democratic primary voters now back Sanders at 47 percent, up from 37 percent in January. Clinton’s support, on the other hand, is at 44 percent, a 5-point drop from the previous poll. The new poll comes just a day after Sanders was shown to outperform Clinton in hypothetical match-ups against Republican candidates.
Fox News National Poll of Democratic Voters finds Sanders scoring 47% to Hillary's 44% and that Clinton’s drop-off has been most dramatic among female, white, and blue-collar voters.

Furthermore, notes Fox, “Three in 10 voters nationally would feel either extremely or very satisfied if Sanders wins the presidency (30 percent). That’s more than say the same about Clinton (24 percent satisfied), Trump (21 percent satisfied), and Jeb Bush (15 percent satisfied).” In addition, the poll found that among voters of all parties, “Clinton’s Achilles’ heel may be trustworthiness. While Democrats think by 75-22 percent that Clinton ‘has the integrity’ to serve effectively as president, a 55-percent majority of voters overall say she doesn’t. That includes 64 percent of independents.”

Sanders has also made extraordinary gains among Democrats in terms of electability. An Associated Press-GfK poll released Friday shows that Democratic voters’ belief in Sanders’ viability as a presidential nominee has gone up by a remarkable 21 percent. Clinton boasted a 41-point lead over Sanders on this question as recently as December, but Friday Sanders trails Clinton by a mere nine points.

Bearing in mind that I do not have a vote to cast and so only look at the candidates entertainment value, and that ever since I can remember I have been anti - establishment, throughout the past few months as the campaigns stated to take shape I have been drawn to Sanders and Trump. OK, I know, I know, one is a communist the other is a custard, but they are outsiders and neither could possibly be worse than any of the past few presidents.

The case is that one of the few things Britain and The USA still have in common is that neither is a democracy, in the end it does not matter who gets the most votes, the deep state and the shadow government will still rule and will preserve the status quo with just a little change of style in the window dressing.

Still, I'm glad Hillary is fading away, the woman is an unconscionable hypocrite.

Nevada Democratic Party Caucus Result: Not the shock Bernie Sanders supporters were hoping for but close enough to further undermine the myth of invincibility the Democrats propaganda machine tried to build around Hillary.

Paranoia over a supposed “Russian threat” and the fear of terrorism following the Paris attacks are causing panic among NATO and EU nations, causing governments to vastly increase their defense budgets: 31 European countries have raised their planned defense spending for 2016 by an estimated average of 8.3 percent, compared to 2015, according to a survey of European think tanks.

European Think Tanks versus Russian Armoured Tanks? Current Russian and Chiese military technology is more than a match for anything the USA and NATO have (although thank's to Obamas enlightened defence policy the USA has far more Gay, Bi, Lesbian and Transgender soldiers)

The constantly hyped threat of Russian aggression and the high risk of terror attacks in Europe have pushed member states to spend more on their defense budgets, reversing a trend of defence cuts the decline that weakened European military strength for over twenty years, says a joint study of European think tanks on the defense spending in Europe.

The rush to rearm has been most urgent in central and Eastern Europe, an area covering the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia, the survey, entitled "Defence Budgets and Cooperation in Europe: Developments, Trends and Drivers," states.

Those seven countries will raise spending by 19.9 percent this year, the report said, with Hungary pushing up spending by 22 percent to nearly €1 billion.

In southeastern Europe, an area covering Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia, the rise will be 9.2 percent, while Western Europe will see a rise of 2.7 percent.

Among the key reasons for the defense spending increase, none of which stand up to scrutiny, are: "Russia’s aggressive posture", "non-conventional threats such as Islamic terrorism", especially after the Paris attacks, and "NATO’s renewed focus on collective defense, and the institutional influence it exerts on Allies."

The last factor apparently refers to NATO’s calls to spend two percent of each member’s GDP on defense.

In fact the Russian government has proved it has no intention of attacking the west by its reacting to repeated provocations and peace treaty violation by the US Government, the EU, and the madman who is Turkey's President, Recep Erdogan, with only verbal rebukes and reminders that certain lines cannot be crossed. Constrast this with the screaming and shouting, posing and posturing of the girlie man who has occupied The White House for the past seven years and the USA's collaboration with human rights abusing regimes in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Uzbekistan, and Israel to promote insurrection in nations whose dictators would not play the west's game of trying to undermine Russian interests.

As Putin has said, there are lines which cannot be crossed, and through the west's use of Turkey and its president Recep 'Mad Dog' Erdogan as their agent provocateur, our leaders have come dangerously close to crossing it

Has Obama Admitted Defeat In Syria?

On Wednesday 17 February (unremarked by mainstream media in Europe and the USA), President Obama appeared to admit there is no chance of victory for the 'Syrian opposition' (i.e. Obama's beloved 'moderate rebels', the same people who earlier in the conflict were ripping vital organs from the still warm corpses of Assad supporters and Syrian Christians and noshing them, posting videos of the feast on YouTube) according to White House and Pentagin sources Obama thinks the aformentioned human organ noshers Free Syrian army is outclassed by the Russian military, "the second-most powerful in the world." Russian analysts wonder what to make of the president's words, who exactly he thinks is the most powerful military nation on earth, the Chinese maybe? and whether the comments indicate that the war in Syria is nearing its end.

Speaking at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) conference in California on Wednesday, the US president was asked by Bloomberg reporter Toluse Olorunnipa whether he had been "outfoxed" by Russia's President Putin in Syria (to which the only honest answer would be, "Yes, totally.". Russia had managed not only to avoid getting caught in a quagmire (contrary to US expectations), but had succeeded in bolstering the Syrian government, whose army has been making major advances around Aleppo, while US-backed rebels have been on the retreat, Olorunnipa continued.

Put on the back foot, Obama blustered, insisting that actually, Russia would "absolutely" get involved in a quagmire, and that "about three-quarters of [Syria]…still under control of folks other than Assad." The President failed to mention or more likely just does not know that most of the rebel controlled territory is sparsely populated, and that about 80% of Syria's population is in areas controlled by the Assad regime.

More importantly, the president conceded that "yes, Russia has a major military. Obviously, a bunch of rebels are not going to be able to compete with the hardware of the second-most powerful military in the world."

WHAT! Not even with all the hardware and money the USA has thrown at them in a bid to depose Assad without and American bodies showing up on YouTube?

As a result of this, Obama suggested, "the only way to do that is to bring some sort of political transition."

Analyzing the president's words, Svobodnaya Pressa columnist Andrei Ivanov remarked that Moscow, for its part, has always been in favor of a peaceful settlement and that in fact, "it is the opposition which has disrupted the peace talks, by setting impossible demands, including that Bashar Assad step down."

"However," the journalist added, "Obama's words do mark an interesting change of rhetoric. Earlier, Washington had insisted that the opposition fighters they were preparing would simultaneously fight both the terrorists and overthrow Assad.

It is surprising that after his track record of failure, fuck up and total embarrassment (remember that time he tried to suck the King of Saudi Arabia's cock?) there are still a few people out there who think he's The Obamessiah. EU Refuses to Block Eurozone Integration to Reach Agreement With UK

Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann said at the E?U summit on British membership terms that the European Union wants to reach an agreement with the United Kingdom, but it is not prepared to compromise the banking union (financial integration) or the further integration of monetary union (UK being forced to abandon the pound join the Euro?) to achieve this goal.


The European Union will not agree to the further integration of the euro zone towards the formation of a federal European superstate being jeopardized in order to retain the United Kingdom as a member of the bloc the Austrian Reichsfuhrer Faymann said Friday.

On February 18-19, EU leaders meeting in Brussels to discuss the issue of the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union, found so many differences between the British vision for Europe and that of the German fourth reich other member states. UK Prime Minister David Cameron put forward four key proposals that if agreed would enable him to sell a European future to British citizens. These included the removal of the Euro's single official EU currency status, which would render the integration of all EU countries into the eurozone formally impossible.

Faymann told reporters that the bloc wants to reach an agreement with the United Kingdom, but it is not prepared to compromise the banking union or the further integration of monetary union to achieve this goal.

Last year, while campaigning in the General Election Mr. Cameron promised voters a referendum on the United Kingdom's future within the European Union by the end of 2017, following a renegotiation of the terms of Britain's membership to make the progressive loss of sovereignty and transfer of lawmaking powers from the elected Parliament in London to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels.

Apart from the European multi-currency status, Cameron has proposed halting the shift of power away from Parliament to the EU and returning sovereignty over employment law, human rights, trade and commercial law and immigration, finance and foreign policy and consumer protection law to the peoples' elected representatives. This would leave Britain as an 'associate member', a trading partner but outside the single EU "superstate" principle, and protect the British economy by keeping eurozone bureaucrats away from our traade and diplomatic relations with non-eurozone countries.

Sneaking a transatlantic trade deal through with Obama, by - passing the elected parliament and British law is just about David Cameron's style. But this latest exercise in dismantling democracy could have far reaching consequences for all of us, for example it will give global corporations the power to change British law.

These conditions are capitulation by three vulnerable states on core policies, and partial loss of sovereignty for the rest of the eurozone. The move represents a giant leap towards the establishment of a federal Europe or the dreaded single nation solution.

As we and almost everybody else predicted, David Cameron's deal to improve Britain's relationship with the EU is worthless. It changes nmothing, and can be vetoed once we have voted to stay in.

Cameron Plays Deal Or No Deal In Europe

Prime Minister's EU negotiations go on all night and into the morning. Cameron tells Daily Stirrer, "I wish these buggers would stop talking, I desperately need a shit."

That’s from British PM David Cameron, who was apparently up all night trying to make other European leaders understand why his country needs a better deal in order to poersuade the prople it is a good idea stay in the EU. Unless Cameron gets what he wants, what will enable him to sell the idea of surrendering national sovereignty to become a province of a Federal European Superstate ruled by a committee of unelected bureaucrats in to the British public he will not campaign for the UK to remain in the bloc ahead of an expected referendum on membership in June.

"Britain has always had an ambiguous relationship with the bloc, staying out of two of its most ambitious projects, the Schengen border free zone and the euro common currency,” Reuters reminds us. “Its exit would end the vision of the EU as the natural home for European democracies and reverse the continent's post-World War Two march toward ‘ever closer union.’"

Anyone familiar with the history of the European Union and how it operates will know and talk of democracy can be dismissed. The idea, from its conception in the 1950s was to merge the independent nations of europe into a single state, a bureaucratic dictatorship.

Cameron is mainly seeking changes that will reduce the UK's financial burden* as the second (of two) net contributors to the 28 member European Union it relates to refugees and other EU nations. "As I have said, I would only do a deal if we get what Britain needs, so we are going to get back in there," he said, after marathon talks.

*(Many widely varying figures are available, one even shows the economic basket case Italy as the EU's biggest net contributor when the Italian government has to borrow money every month from the EU simply to meet its obligations on public sector wages, unemployment and welfare benefits and old age pensions.)

"Paris has pushed for amendments to ensure Britain cannot veto actions by the euro zone countries or give City of London banks competitive advantage through regulation," Reuters goes on to note. "A group of east European states chaired by the Czechs is trying to hold back how far their citizens can be denied welfare benefits in Britain or have family allowances reduced."

Meanwhile, the Conservative Party and the UK press are pushing for reforms. "Britain's place in Europe has been allowed to fester for too long" Cameron says, but there's "now a chance to settle this issue for a generation".

"For now I can only say that we have made some progress but a lot needs to be done," EU president Donald Tusk said.

What is at stake on handing control of London's financial services sector to Brussels? Financial services account for 180 billion pounds ($258 billion) a year — about 12 percent — of U.K. economic output and contribute 66 billion pounds in taxes. In some areas, like foreign exchange trading (41 percent of the world total) and over-the counter derivatives (49 percent), London is the undisputed global leader. Opponents of a Brexit fear a departure would precipitate years of uncertainty and steady waning of influence and market share. Supporters of the leave campaign point to how hamstrung by idiotic EU bureaucracy the financial centres of Paris, Milan and Frankfurt and other major EU nation are as evidence that if we surrender more national sovereignty to the EU, bureaucratic control freakery will destroy our financial services industry.

One of the points at issue is 'passporting'. What is passporting and why does it matter? Under the current regime, any firm authorized in the U.K. firm is free to do business in any other European Economic Area state by applying for a "passport" from British regulators. For non-EU banks like JPMorgan Chase & Co., Credit Suisse Group AG or Nomura Holdings Inc., the ability to access the region’s 500 million customers from a base in London has been an important draw. Without it the globalists warn, many firms may seriously consider upping sticks. It has been shown however that because over - regulation and bureaucratic obstructionism are likely to harm financial trade more that being based in a non EU country, the big players will not leave. They simply fear that without Britain in the EU to veto further encroachment on business freedom by bureaucrats, European economies (except Norway, Switzerland and Britain) would contract.

In plain numbers what would Brexit mean for the banks? Every day more than a trillion dollars worth of euros change hands in London, close to half the global total, according to the Bank for International Settlements. The City’s global dominance of the foreign-exchange market would be threatened by any Brexit package that fails to guarantee a continuation of access to the single market, but like the ill considered economic sanctions on Russia, that would hurt E U nations more than Britain. Over-the-counter derivatives are another area being used by pro - E U scaremongers. About three-quarters of all trading in such instruments in Europe currently takes place in the British capital. Same rules apply however, it would be less of a disadvantage to investment banks than being hogtied by bureaucratic regulations in a more closely integrated EU economy.

But numbers aren't likely to sway the British people who are prepared to opt out of the ill-fated union, because many see the commitment to a more closely integrated group of nations as a stepping stone to the nightmarish prospect of a global government based on Marxist principles.

Cameron says he's "battling for Britain", but in reality he's "battling for the EU." With the future of the union already in question thanks to the festering migrant crisis, Britain may well be better off abandoning this sinking ship. "It's the EU in question, not just one country in the EU," French President Francois Hollande said on Friday.

A timely admission from the beleaguered French President, the EU needs Britain more than Britain needs the EU. Now British voters must decide whether they want their nation to go down with the sinking ship prepared to go down with the ship, or risk being called rats for leaving. We should remember when deciding which way to vote, rats are very good survivors.
