Green Energy & Net Zero: A Herd Of Elephants In The Room

 6 March 2023

“The more power we generate within our own borders, the better protected we will be from volatile gas prices that are pushing up bills,” Kwasi Kwarteng, then business secretary, said this week.

The Cuadrilla Lancashire gas exploration wells yielded very high-quality natural gas to the surface from just a few fractures completed in the underlying shale rock. The limited number of fractures was due to the UK's regulatory requirement to halt operations any time micro-seismicity induced by fracturing exceeded just 0.5 on the Richter scale. Liverpool University's seismology dept. has equated the impact of 0.5 micro-seismic event to sitting down on an office chair.

Claims that less than 1\100th of the huge in place gas resource of 37.6 trillion m3 could be extracted has  been shown to be biased towards green  / extremist left political views, no actual UK data on gas recovery is available the claim was based on pre-2010 US data, before hydraulic fracturing techniques were advanced to improve gas recoveries to as high as 30% of in-place volumes. Just 10% gas recovery from Bowland shale could supply 50 years’ worth of current UK gas demand.

To produce the same amount of energy as one 4 hectare shale site of 40 wells would require a wind farm some 1500 times that size or a solar park nearly 1000 times the size. At current UK gas prices, the value of just 10% of the in-place UK gas would be approx £3.3 trillion. Potential tax take from this could be close to £200 billion. Imported gas produces no tax, no jobs & higher CO2 emissions. Gas prices can of course go down but we don't share doubts that UK could ever be commercially viable. Gas from the existing Cuadrilla wells could & should be flowing to local domestic consumers within a year of equipment re-mobilising to site. 6 other such sites located across Northern England could be producing gas & making a material contribution to energy security & tax revenue within 4\5years. The case for shale gas is strong & logical. HMG needs to lift the moratorium urgently.

It’s all a huge con. Lining companies’ pockets whilst deluding the public into thinking they’re doing something ‘good’. Energy independence at an affordable cost is the only way for populous prosperity. Anything else will accelerate decline and leave the UK poorer than Poland sooner rather than later.

No more subsidies for foreigners investing in  inefficieny and expensive wind power - if it’s not economic at the market rate (which we all know is distorted to pay these green robber barons their subsidies) it should not happen - the consumer is being mugged over and over by this net zero nonsense .

Just take a look at the graph below, showing what sources, on a cold, sunny, almost windless winter day, our electricity needs are serviced by. Some smartarse may try to accuse The Boggart of cherry picking. Not so, there is no argument about the fact that on a day with ideal weather conditions for wind turbines to generate then around 50% of our electricity comes from wind. The question is were to to cease using 'fossil fuels' as groups like the Exstinktion Rebellion crusties and the Just Stop Oil motorway obstructers demand, where would we get the 75% of our electricity not supplied by wind, solar, hydro or imports from France, Netherlands and Norway?

Orange line is gas, light blue is wind, the pink and everything below is imports. Picture source: https://gridwatch.co.uk

In our headlong rush to ‘save the planet’ perhaps a sobering reality check for the deluded Greens is long overdue?

A small, ever-so-green, 100-megawatt wind farm needs 30,000 tons of iron ore; 50,000 tons of concrete and 900 tons of non-recyclable plastic.

For the same power from an ever-so-green solar farm you need to increase that by 150 per cent.

An electric car battery weighs half a ton, making just one requires shifting 250 tons of earth somewhere else on the planet.

All require what are called ‘rare earths’, so a phenomenal 200 to 2,000 per cent increase in toxic mining, processing and shipping is required somewhere else on the planet, usually from unregulated regimes with very lax environmental standards.

Solar and wind have weather-dependant limits, but we need energy ALL the time, so we have to have permanent back-up. The giant Tesla factory in Nevada would take 500 years to make enough batteries to supply the USA with electricity for 1 day!

After 30 years and countless billions in subsidies wind and solar supply less than 3 per cent of the world’s energy. On top of that, like all machines ‘renewables’ are built from non-renewable materials – and have to be replaced time and time again, so definitely NOT a one-off cost.

To accommodate 2,000 MW of gas or nuclear power generation requires the same area of two 18-hole golf courses. Whereas, accommodating 2,000 MW of wind power requires an area the size of Belgium!

Then, of course, you still need 2,000 MW of gas or nuclear power to accommodate those hundreds of occasions each year when wind and solar power is producing absolutely nothing.

Ay there's the rub:

The true elephant in the room where crusties, tree huggers and motorway arse gluers spout the virtues of medieval windmill technology is of course is you have to invest in two energy supply systems along with additional transmission and additional infrastructure for ancillary services - if you go for variable renewable wind and solar as the so-called backbone of the grid system. Gas turbines with or without carbon capture and storage and nuclear require no backup. The backup for variable wind and solar needs to be at least this much as the installed capacity and the wind solar installation. It is totally meaningless to say Windows the cheapest energy source. You have to look at the value of system and all the associated Investments required.

Wind turbines are a also a delusional, expensive con trick. Because:

1. Wind turbines operational life span is much shorter than anticipated[1], at 12-15 years. This means the vast majority will not generate enough electricity to break even. Furthermore around half of the UK's wind turbines are reaching their maximum operating life so will start to need replacing.

2. Wind turbines are proving to be less reliable than expected with Siemens reporting almost a 1 billion US Dollar loss for Oct-Dec 2022 due to much higher warranty claims [2]

3. Wind turbines require a lot of oil for both production, transportation, installation and maintenance. A large wind turbine requires around 80 gallons of oil each year.

"For a long time to come—until all energies used to produce wind turbines and photovoltaic cells come from renewable energy sources—modern civilization will remain fundamentally dependent on fossil fuels."[3]

4. The turbine vanes cannot be recycles, have a short working life and are just being buried in land fill.[4]

Claims that onshore wind is cheap come thick and fast from politicians in thrall to the most well oiled of crony-capitalist industries, the wind merchants. The claims are not supported by the accounts of onshore wind farms, which indicate a breakeven cost of around £80/MWh for the very cheapest farms. And this, note, is for the efficient wind farms with 200-metre turbines (twice the typical height), located in the windiest sites and spaced at least 1,200 metres apart so they don’t they steal each other’s wind. The cost estimate doesn’t even count the need to carefully manage backup power generation for those times and places where the wind is not blowing hard enough, or blowing too hard. Nor does it count the cost of building and running transmission lines from remote wind farms to places where people actually live.

The total UK install base of wind turbine electricity at the time the data for the above graph was gathereed was generating 2.33GW out of a demand of 36.3GW i.e. 6.4 %

Net Zero, as it is currently being currently implemented, is economic lunacy on a massive scale.

Our execution of the policy has produced a loss maximisation result - we are all poorer and exposed to continuing short squeezes in the price of gas.

To reduce these losses, I suggest:

1. Stop market rigging by making all suppliers contractually liable for dispatchable energy. IF the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine it is up to the producer to supply their shortfall, not the grid.

2. Spend the levy/ subsidy money on storage - i.e. pumped hydro!

3. Spend the subsidy money on developing new storage methods.

4. Gear the grid to coping with the variability of green supplies BEFORE installing that supply.

5. Per the Local Authorities ruling in the eighties/ early nineties ban the public sector from entering supply contracts based on CfDs - the currents CfDs appearing to be the wrong way round! Where are the ISDA agreements?

In the interim, rejig the N Sea taxation and development regime and allowing fracking/ on-shore wind, subject to market related payments to affected locals.

Wind farm accounts also show that this cost is rising, not falling, presumably due to such grid constraints, the fact that the best sites have gone, and the rising costs of steel, concrete, copper and neodymium making new machines pricier. Yet even £80/MWh is nearly double the cost of gas-fired power at the long-term average price of gas....... The best thing about wind farms, as far as city spivs are concerned, is that they transfer money from poor to rich. The costs are borne by electricity bill payers – and power absorbs twice as much of the monthly budget of a poor person than a rich person. The rewards are trousered by the wealthy: landowners, private equity investors, lobbyists for Chinese coal mine owners.

The constant issue that I have with charts like "WIND IS NOW BRITAIN'S SECOND BIGGEST POWER SOURCE" is that I suspect they are lying. I don't know the details but a certain political movement has such an exhaustive history of lying that I would be surprised if was not yet more lying buried in this chart.

And what form might the lying taking in this instance?

Well I would be immediately suspicious about two issues:

(a) Are they talking about capacity to make energy or are they talking about energy actually delivered and usefully used?

There's a difference between the two because people need energy at some times of the day far more than others. If a large portion of the energy is being produced late at night for instance it may serve no useful purpose.

(b) Are we talking about useful energy extracted from the grid or are we talking about energy put into the grid?

This is a less important issue than (a) but nonetheless wind mills usually have a much longer path through the grid than some other power sources, and thus have greater transmission losses.

And finally just because I'm not able to immediately think of a way that we might be being deceived doesn't mean it is not occurring. Based on past actions, there is no reason to trust anybody involved either at government, academic or commercial level.

Today which is a relatively windless day across most of Britain, wind is generating just over 5% of our current electricity usage (https://gridwatch.co.uk  -  GBfuel type power generation graph 23-03-05, 16:10 ) behind gas 57% nuclear 13%, Biomass 6%, Imports from Norway 7%, Imports from France 6% and Imports from Netherlands 6%.
What should concern us as the people who pay for this product is why, with all those wind and solar farms we subsidise so generously, we still have to import almost 20% of or electricity from abroad.

Wind fans may say I'm cherry picking. OK, on days when conditions are ideal for wind generation wind farms produce over 50% of our electricity, no argument against that.
But on days like today we need just the same amount of power as when the wind blows steadily at 18mph (the optimum speed for generation according to wind watch.)

Germany Forcing Farmers To Use LESS Fertilizer To Satisfy EU’s Green Agenda
The German government, already reeling from the public backlash against rising fuel prices, the shortage of gas since supplies from Russia were cut off, and the biggest economic crisis in the EU, has now jumped on another 'woke' bandwagon. The Truth About Coal And The Lies Of The Elite
So much for all the COP 26 banter late last year. Let me remind you. The elites all flew in on their private jets and promptly told us we’re all (royal we) getting off fossil fuels and killing coal.So how’s that turning out? The usage of coal is now at record highs:

Net Zero Will Lead To The End Of Modern Civilisation, Says Top Scientist
In a recently published science paper, Dr. Wallace Manheimer said Net Zero would be the end of modern civilisation. Britain is Breaking Down; The Economy Is Struggling, Living Standards Are Falling, Institutions Are Failing
Successive governments have brought Britain to its knees. This article will focus on Britain as representative of the general malaise that is afflicting almost all the developed world. Our current crop of politicians have discarded the resources that brought the country out of the post war decline ... In spite of being rich in energy resources Britain is now in an energy crisis, our leaders have sacrificed prosperity on the altar of Net Zero, committing the nation to our reducing our 1% contribution to harmful emissions still further ...

Climate Scientists' Mathematical Models Of Reality Wrong Again…New Study Shows Jet Stream Strengthening, Not Weakening
recent research  by Samantha Hallam et al published in the journal Climate Dynamics looks at the seasonal variations over decades in Northern Hemisphere jet stream latitude and speed over land for the period 1871–2011. The authors report that they found no evidence of weakening of the sort climate alarmists have been warning about for the past three decades.

Official Advice - Prepare For Blackouts This Winter
The UK government is putting plans together for days of organised blackouts this winter, in what they call a "reasonable worst-case scenario" for energy shortages, according to reports in manstream media. Naturally they are blaming this on the embargo on importing gas from Russia but in reality Britain has never imported any more than a small amout of its gas from Russia. The real reason politicians and energy company CEOs are panicking is entirely due to their obession with obtaining all our energy from intermittent sources like wind and sunshine ...

UK Households Are Paying Wind Turbine Owners To Not Generate Electricity
On another near windless day here in the United Kingdom, Boggart Blog came across a very interesting piece if news. According to figures published by the business and management consultancy LCP, british taxpayers have been paying operators of wind turbines farms for the time their windmills were NOT generating electricity increased to record levels last year ...

Net Zero Is A Dangerous Fantasy, But Scientists Believe In Fairies It Seems
With oil and gas prices rocketing and the highly propted sustainable energy sources performing way befow expectations the energy crisis currently gripping Europe (with worse to come as food shortages start to bite, polticians still seem more intent on pandering to the green lobby and chasing the dream of a fossil fuel free world rather securing the energy and food supplies needed by the people they serve.

New UN Report on Climate Change – Nothing New, Nothing True
The latest United Nations (“UN”) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (“IPCC”) report, published this week, once again, in scaremongering tone and the language of the panic stricken, claims that the planet is in peril (we are facing climate disaster, the clock is at one minute to midnight, we must take urgent action to destroy civilisation if we are to save the planet, the usual over - dramatised guff designed to spread fear and panic,) basically the same claim as they have been making at least twice a month for the past 20 years.

News Summary - 22 September 2022

At the precipice of World War

Clash of the two systems of governance, as George Soros formulated it in his remarks to the World Economic Forum conference in May, seems to have reached a phase transition. Russian President Vladimir Putin has returned from last week’s summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference in Samarkand with a palpable sense of confidence and determination, and it does appear that he has obtained reassurances of support from all the key leaders during the event, including China’s Xi Jinping, India’s Narendra Modi, Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran’s Ebrahim Raisi, and even the new PM of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.

Now, the leadership of Russia is prepared to shift gears in Ukraine. While annexation of the Donbas region wasn’t part of the objectives set out at the outset of the “Special Military Operation” in February, this could be about to change.

Russia will mobilize about 1.2% of her mobilizational potential

by Vinyard of The Saker,

So, after lots of speculation, we now know that the Kremlin has decided to mobilize about 300’000 soldiers from a total mobilizational potential of 25’000’000 soldiers.  That’s just a little over 1% of Russia’s mobilizational potential.  We are talking only about those soldiers who have an official status of “reserves” and all of them will have to undergo a special training before being sent to the Ukraine.

A few comments about this decision:

  • It will take Russia a few months to gather and retrain (refresher courses) these forces and they will not be immediately available to protect the Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhie and Kherson regions during the upcoming referendum on to whether to join Russia or not.  The 3rd volunteer army corps is already deployed in the south and could greatly assist in this.
  • Putin and Shoigu gave several reasons for this decision, including the very long line of contact, the direct involvement of NATO personnel who are now running the Ukronazi regime in Kiev and the threats by the West to dismantle Russia.
  • Shoigu indicated that the UAF lost about 50% of its personnel (over 100’000 soldiers out of a total potential of about 200’000).  He also added that most of the Ukrainian weapons systems, which were of Soviet origin, was mostly destroyed.  Russian KIAs are just under 6000 soldiers.
  • Shoigu also clearly spelled out that “we are not so much fighting against the Ukraine but against NATO plus the united (collective) West“.
  • Shoigu also mentioned that all of the NATO satellite capabilities (70 military and 200+ civilian satellites) are used against Russia right now.
  • Finally, Shoigu added that NATO high precision weapons are deliberately used by NATO commanders to terrorize civilians.

In other words, Russia is preparing for an escalation of this war in the coming months.  She is basically augmenting her forces to a level which could deal with a major NATO escalation in the Ukraine (and elsewhere as not all mobilized forces would have to be combat units; deploying more C4ISR capabilities, logistics/supply forces or civil affairs and counter-terrorism units would also make sense).

UK Government Lifts the Fracking Ban

has more.
The Business Secretary said “much has changed” since the Conservatives introduced the moratorium on fracking in 2019, including the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

He said the country needed to “explore all avenues available to us” as he also confirmed plans to issue a wave of new oil and gas licences in the North Sea.

Mr. Rees-Mogg said: “While the Government will always try to limit disturbance to those living and working near to sites, tolerating a higher degree of risk and disturbance appears to us to be in the national interest given the circumstances described.

“With this in mind, it is important that the policy relating to shale gas extraction reflects this.”

The fracking ban was prompted in part by a 2.9 magnitude tremor at a site in Lancashire, and a subsequent investigation that found it was not possible to accurately predict the probability or magnitude of earthquakes.

But Mr. Rees-Mogg said more data could be collected by allowing shale gas drilling and using the wells to better understand the risk of earthquakes.

The decision to allow fracking is likely to be unpopular with many Tory MPs, including those representing constituencies where it took place prior to 2019.

LITHIUM mining for electric vehicles is incredibly destructive to the environment and about as far from “green” as you can imagine

by Lance D Johnson, Natural News

Image: LITHIUM mining for electric vehicles is incredibly destructive to the environment and about as far from “green” as you can imagine

(Natural News) Electric vehicles are promoted as the solution for combating “climate change.” Governments are currently incentivizing the production of electric vehicles, while punishing the fossil fuel industry. However, lithium mining for electric vehicles is incredibly destructive to the environment, and is about as far from “green” as one could imagine. Not to mention, most of the lithium-ion batteries produced today come from China and require water-intensive mining operations that ravage natural environments throughout Australia, Argentina and Chile. The process depletes ground water, and leaves behind toxic wastewater that contaminates fields and harms wildlife. The mining process is not carbon dioxide free, either. The mining process releases 15,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions for every ton of lithium that is extracted.

When lithium is extracted from salt mines, the miners must drill into the salt flats and pump out a salty, mineral-rich brine. The brine is placed in large pools, so the water can evaporate out. When the brine evaporates, it leaves behind a sludge of potassium, manganese, borax and lithium salts that must be filtered out further. The process pollutes nearby aquifers and lowers the water table, interfering with water sources in the local environment.

The lithium extraction process takes several months, displaces valuable water resources, and leaves behind a toxic trail of wastewater in the local environment. It takes approximately 500,000 gallons of water to produce one ton of lithium. When mining companies head into countries like Chile, they use up a majority of the region’s water, unjustly affecting small communities.

At UN, Biden Has The Audacity To Say Russia Can't Take A Country's Territory By Force

Authored by Dave DeCamp via AntiWar.com,

At the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, President Biden focused most of his speech on Ukraine and accused Russia of violating the UN Charter by launching the war.

"Russia has shamelessly violated the core tenets of the United Nations Charter — no more important than the clear prohibition against countries taking the territory of their neighbor by force," he said.

US Bradley Fighting Vehicle patrols near oil production facilities in Syria's northeastern Hasakah province, file image.

Biden’s comments highlight US hypocrisy on the issue as Washington currently occupies a major portion of eastern Syria despite the Syrian government’s opposition. The US also supports Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and its blockade of Gaza, and Saudi Arabia’s war and blockade on its neighbor Yemen.

Biden said that the US will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia based on the principle that "you cannot seize a nation’s territory by force."

Obama's Posturing As Leader Of The Battle Against Climate Change Exposed.

The fact that US President Barack Hussein Obama is of mixed race continues to inspire those most illiberal of political activists, US 'progressive liberals' to idiocy as it has throughout the seven years of his Presidency. The US liberals, ignoring the wish of one of their heroes, that his children and grandchildren would live 'in a country where a man is judged not by the colour of his skin but the quality of his character' voted for Obama solely because of the colour of his skin, dismissing warnings that his meagre experience and abysmal record as an Illinois State Senator and then a first term US Senator marked him as a weak, vacillating man, more likely to abstain in votes on any difficult issue rather than commit to one side of the other.

Seven years in office have not changed him.

Although the Paris climate conference has been rendered irrelevant by the terror attacks (if it goes ahead at all many delegates will not attend because of security fears) China and India have already announced they will go on opening new coal fired power stations at an even faster rate than they have previously which renders any agreement about cutting Carbon Dioxide emissions meaningless. So Obama's posturing as self styled 'World Leader on Climate Change' look even more than his previous attempts to liver up to expectations.

At home in the USA, where his word does still carry some weight, if only by virtue of the fact that he is still their elected leader, after seven years of waffling (and somewhat under the radar but that is coincidence), Obama at long last rejected the proposed Keystone XL pipeline which would have transported over 800,000 barrels a day of low grade (dirty) oil extracted very expensively and energy - intensively from the Canadian tar sands through the US mid west states to refineries on the Gulf Coast.

Obama and The Keystone Pipeline (Image source)

If he had rejected the pipeline during his first term,as supporters called on him to do, his claims to be world leader on climate change might have stood up to scrutiny. But the vacillating Obama only vetoed the project once changing market conditions made it financially unviable. Low oil prices in world markets, and the geopolitical moves of Russia and the Arab oil producers, combined with falling demand due to the ongoing economic depression, resulted in a glut of crude oil on world markets. Making a show of cancelling Keystone now, ahead of the scheduled global climate talks in Paris, was pure theatre.

As alway, with politicians in general and the egomaniac Obama in particular, the White House propaganda machine made a bigger deal of this action than it ever could have been in reality.

"America is now a global leader when it comes to taking serious action to fight climate change," Obama speechified as he signed the executive order. "And frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership."

What leadership? While European leaders have been hamstringing their national economies to meet unrealistic targets for reducing CO2 emissions, the USA has been planning to re-establish itself as the world's biggest exporter of oil and gas. While the Obama administration has been blowing hot air about reducing the nation's reliance on oil, gas, and coal the White House has distributed mining rights on huge areas of federal land to coal-mining companies, and triggered the collapse of the oil market by encouraging shale fracking which has resulted in a huge increase in oil and natural gas production. Obama's inherently contradictory "all-of-the-above" energy policy supports the environmentally damaging (and some say dangeroust) practice of hydraulic fracturing, pumping vast amounts of toxic chemicals suspended in water into the bedrock where it can pollute water resources from which drinking water is supplied.

Fracking isn't just dangerous for the people who live near the tapped oil and gas deposits: The heat-trapping pollution tied to natural gas isn't limited to what happens in smokestacks. Extracting the stuff releases methane, which traps 34 times more heat than carbon dioxide over a century.

Obama seems blind to this conundrum.

"The natural gas boom has led to cleaner power and greater energy independence," he averred in his 2013 State of the Union address. "We need to encourage that."

For several years the government has supported the export of natural gas in order to mainatin the illusion of economic recovery. Exporting gas increases demand (and has proved scientists vastly overestimated the likely yield from fracking wells) but lifts domestic consumer prices. And while 'Obama the climate activist' was posing as saviour of mother Earth by ditching the Keystone pipeline projects, political and economic analysts were finally allowed to read the official text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership 'free trade' treaty. If enacted this deal would bind US authorities to approve all gas exports, and of course, it has the full support of Barack Hussein Obama, the man with more faces than the Koh - I - Noor Diamond.

Shale Gas Salvation? Frack Off ....

The US Shale Oil Industry Will Simply Vanish says Energy Information Administration (EIA)

by Phil T Looker, Financial Editor

A few months ago, before the June oil prices crash, the US oil industry was ebullient. "It is too late for OPEC to stop the shale revolution", industry pundits squawked, "OPEC can’t stop the shale industry" – screamed banner headlines in the usually restrained financial press.

In July, the projected the expansion of US shale oil and gas supply in 2016 had to be adjusted to take into account new conditions. Compared to the first-half of 2014, US crude oil prices had declined by 47%. Fracking, the process of getting oil and gas to the surface from oil shale deposits is expensive. And messy. And making the oil and gas useable asfter it has been got out of the ground is another expensive process. With EIA forecasts predicting the Brent crude oil (the highest quality crude oil) average price will rise in 2016 scarcely to 59$ from average 54$ in 2015, it simply is not worth the expense of getting oil and gas out of the ground.

This is not only because of poor product quality; shale oil wells only have a very short life in which to pay back investment. Production start to collapse exponentially the moment a new well is in operation. Within 3 to 5 years these wells produce less than 20% of their initial production capacity.

My research indicates the running costs for one well is about $20 dollars per barrel, at current prices hardly enough to keep the well running. To create commercial products from shale oil, costs average around $35 to $40 dollars a barrel including transport, storage etc.. US shale companies need 57 dollar a barrel to break even. Most shale producers get paid less than spot market prices because of quality related problems.

The financial mainstream-media try to reassure investors that the rig production is going up, but forget to mention that the production per well is going down. This is because producers are now drilling more than one hole per rig. Producing oil has become a little cheaper but that is not enough to compensate for the low oil prices. With West Texas Intermediate selling at $46.50 producers are still losing dollars on every barrel produced.

The main oil price factor in the markets used to be the state of the US economy. Now it is the economic condition of China and expectations of demand growth in emerging markets. The oil price seems to be linked to China’s Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), which declined in August to 47,3, the lowest level in last six years. Also increased uncertainty of developing Asian countries affected the price, the latest stage in a slowdown that looks set to continue as demand from western economies for manufactured goods continues to slump.

At the same time, due to US fracking mania, supply is still going up. Then there is Iran; with a looming global crude oil supply glut the agreement to ease sanctions that will let the Islamic State back into the global market next year while te outlook for car owners is good, for business it is bleak. Added supply could be almost twice as big as the production cuts by US shale frackers who are shutting up shop.
