EU Technocrats Plan To Shut Down European Agricultural Industry

Their aim is to shift food production to Ukraine and Third World Economies

Picture: www.rmx.news

European farmers will be protesting again this week, according to reports they will gather in Brussels on Tuesday to demand guarantees from the EU Commission that changes to policy will be made to ensure the European agricultural sector remains viable. They will also demand a relaxation of the reporting and regulatory regime, and for Brussels to abandon free trade agreements with countries outside the EU, which are now being used to bring cheap imports from Ukraine, Morocco and South America into European markets to undercut local produce.

Because of the EU's committment to 'Net zero' and the ridiculously complex and expensive regulatory regime imposed by the EU, farmers in member states are finding imports from not EU sources are being sold more cheaply than equivalent goods can be produced locally.

One person was arrested and two police officers were injured in Brussels' European  last week during a farmers' protest which turned violent as demonstrators started throwing firebombs and debris at the cops.

About 250 tractors from Poland, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, France and The Netherlands had arrived in Brussels in the early hours of Tuesday morning, in a new demonstration against policies which they say are driving them to bankruptcy. A ring of tractors circled Place du Luxembourg outside the European Parliament, where farmers milled around a blazing fire while "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees blared from loudspeakers.

Other tractors were used to create road blocks on several access roads around the European institutions, halting traffic along Rue de la Loi — one of the busiest thoroughfares in Brussels, which was shrouded in black smoke.

Farmers across Europe have been protesting for months against EU red tape, global trade deals and new green requirements under the bloc’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

It was a smaller demonstration than those organised earlier this year which blockaded Paris for three days, brought business to a standstill in Berlin and closed major seaports in Spain, but  as farmers threw objects including petrol bombs at police officers, set piles of hay and tires ablaze, dumped manure outside EU buildings, honked their tractors’ horns and set off firecrackers.

According to conservative Polish MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, who was one of the most vociferous supporters of that country's protests which closed the border with Ukraine for several days, the EU establishment is using moral blackmail by saying that in order to help Ukraine, the EU must open its borders to duty-free trade in agricultural goods. In reality, Ukraine needs more ammunition and money, and those are goods the EU cannot or will not deliver.

Saryusz-Wolski added that the EU establishment is not trying to protecting its farmers, especially those on its eastern flank of NATO. The money derived from Ukrainian agricultural exports does not support Ukraine’s budget or war effort, but instead ends up in the pockets of its oligarchs or Western multinational companies, often registered in tax havens. It is difficult to argue against these points as EU Net Zero policy requires member states to cease farming activity and let agricultural land return to its wild state.

The Polish MEP believes that what is really at stake is the dismantling of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The main objective of the CAP was always to ensure food security for the whole of Europe by ensuring Europe is self-sufficient in food.

Today however, “the EU’s mainstream and the industrial and financial lobbies, especially that of Germany, want to move away from the original paradigm to be free of the need to finance the CAP,” said Saryusz-Wolski, adding "The EU wants, instead, to concentrate on new objectives such as net-zero."

Saryusz-Wolski is convinced that imports of agricultural produce from Ukraine and South America are to replace food production in Western and Central Europe, and that the issue of aid for Ukraine is a convenient smoke screen towards the goal of getting rid of the CAP.

Tractors Are Heading For Central London As UK Farmers Protest

25 March 2024

Scores of farm tractors from all over Britain were reported to be converging on London's government district Westminster as British farmers finally ran out of patience and pushed back against what they say is a lack of government support for British food production.

Flying Union flags and displaying signs with slogan such as 'Save British farming' and 'No farming, no food, no future' they were gathering in London, about 20 minutes' drive from Westminster and plan to arrive in central London by early evening. Convoys with horns blaring were reported in various parts of London causing traffic to become gridlocked. The groups that Organised the protest, Save British Farming and Fairness for Farmers of Kent say cheap food imports and unsupportive policies put UK food security at risk.

The government, without a hint of irony, responded by claiming it put farming "at the heart of British trade". With policies like 'net zero' and 'rewilding' impacting farmers' ability to produce food economically it is difficult to see how anybody could find this credible.

"I'm a third generation farmer. I'm here for my future," Ben Stickland, 21, from West Sussex, told a BBC News reporter, "There are multiple nails being put into this coffin built around us."

The British entry into the Europe - wide farmers' rebellion comes after months of heated demonstrations in Europe, including blockades, shitfests, (French protestors dumped manure in city centres,) and government buildings being pelted with rotten fruit and vegetables. Angry farmers in Greece, Germany, Portugal, Poland, Spain and France are still demonstrating against European Union regulations and cheap imports. In Poland a couple of weeks ago a tractor protests that was joined by truck drivers closed the border with Ukraine.

Thousands of farmers also recently joined forces in Wales to fight new farm subsidy plans launched by its government.

There have been a handful of demonstrations in England, including in Kent and Cornwall, but today's tractor rally is expected to be the largest so far.

Colin Rayner next to tractorImage source, BBC/Lucy Vladev: Farmer Colin Rayner fears this year could see his farm's last harvest because of pressures on his business

Another farmer taking part in the rally, Colin Rayner, who has 2,000 acres of arable land across east Berkshire and south Buckinghamshire told the BBC that he had "no choice" but to protest, saying that business was so bad that "this could be our last harvest".

"We have been, as most farmers have been, living in our overdraft now for the last five years.

"We can't see it getting any better - yields have plateaued, prices are dismal, our costs for raw materials are horrendous and the regulations that we have everyday are mindboggling," he explained.

Mr Rayner said the environmentalist focus of the government's farm payments scheme, a policy promoted by The Green Blob as part of the anti - civilisation agenda, and which replaced EU subsidies, comes at the expense of domestic food production while cheap imports were being introduced to our supply chain to lower standards.

"We have been farming for 500 years and the government now has a scheme where they will pay us more money to grow wildflowers than to grow food. It is insanity, they want us to rewild the countryside. I just ask how are they going to feed the people living in the towns?" he said, adding "We have got to have food from our own resources. We have got to produce healthy good food - which we can do."

In England, campaigners say government agricultural policy and its Environmental Land Management farm payments scheme, together with weak trade deals, "non-existent" import controls and misleading labelling, have all served to undermine farming businesses.

They point out that these 'green' policies threaten the country's ability to produce enough food to feed its own population, "leaving our food security in peril".

British Farmers Rebellion Revs Up

from Yahoo News, 4 March 2024

The tractor protest in Canterbury on Sunday

Britain is traditionally slow off the mark and true to form after agricultural communities from France to Romania, from Poland to Spain have since November last year been engaging in hugely disruptive protests against rising prices and EU ' net zero' policies that make it difficult for farms to operate economically, Brish farmers at last seem to be joinging in. Farmers brought in Canterbury, Kent to a standstill this weekend when, in protest over food imports, convoys of slow moving tractors stopped traffic moving through the town centre and on the ring road.

The rally caused traffic gridlock across the city which culminated as more than 200 tractors, many bearing placards warning of the dangers of making food production unviable, joined the protest.

Police struggled manage the disruption as some drivers honked their horns in support.

The spectacle was organised by a new organisation, Fairness for Farmers, because of the effect of cheaper food, imported from Ukraine and from the elite's beloved third world countries where labour costs are low and regulations range from lax to non existent, enabl,e food imports to be sold more cheaply than UK farmers can produce it.

The high cost of UK food production is largely due to 'net zero' policies including taxes and levies on enery consumption, restrictions on use of fuel, fertiliser and pesticides, and high labour cost in a high tax society.

Farmers in Cardiff organised a tractor protest against the Welsh government’s new farm subsidy plans last week, which require farmers to allow 10 per cent of their land to be used for trees and 10 per cent for wildlife habitat, thus reducing land available for food production by one fifth.

According to South Wales Police about 3,000 people arrived at the Senedd, the Welsh parliament, while others attached placards to their tractors in  towns and villages across the country.

Tractor convoy was organised by Fairness for Farmers

The Welsh scheme, which is purportedly designed to fight climate change although it is difficult to see how that would work when China is increasing emissioned by more each year than the UK produces in a whole year. However the Welsh government is socialist and common sense was never a strong point of socialism. Farmers' leaders warn it could lead to a 10.8 per cent reduction in livestock numbers and an 11 per cent loss in labour on farms, according to the Welsh government’s own projections.

The protests in Canterbury and Cardiff follow on from action in Kent at the end of last month which saw 20 tractors blockade a Supermarket car park in Ashford and farm vehicles block roads in and out of the Port of Dover.

Major escalation: Polish farmers block Germany’s vital A2 Autobahn As EU Agricultural Rebellion Spreads

26 February 2024 source: PAP (Polish Press Agency, English Language channel)

Polish Farmers protests, which up to now had only affected border crossings with Ukraine and Czechia, (formerly knows as The Czech Republic) have now spread to affect traffic at German border crossings.

In line with their German, French, Belgian, Dutch and Spanish counterparts, farmers in Poland are staging a 24-hour blockade of the A2 Autobahn at the Świecko border crossing into Germany. Although the protest may be a short term measure aimed at focusing the attention of the newly instaled Tusk regime for the moment, any longer protest interfering with cross border traffic between Poland and Germany is potentially a major economic risk for both.

The blockade, which began at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, and was due to end at 1.00 p.m. today,is a major escalation of the ongoing campaign of civil disobedience by Polish farmers aimed at the EU’s Green Deal and net zero policies and the lifting of tariffs on the importation of agricultural goods from Ukraine.

Initially, the protest was planned to last nearly a month, but after negotiations, the organizers agreed to a one-day action. Approximately 1,500 individuals and hundreds of agricultural machines blocked traffic on this interstate transport artery, which links major cities in Poland, such as Warsaw, all the way to Berlin in Germany and beyond.

****

The decision to shorten the blockade came after appeals from various stakeholders, including the Employers Association Transport and Logistics Poland, which highlighted the potential risks to the national economy and the livelihoods of other Polish entrepreneurs.

Polish police advised motorists to plan alternative routes. Heavy vehicles were redirected to the S3 expressway in the direction of Zielona Góra to cross the border at Gubinek, while passenger vehicles on the A2 heading to Germany used the Rzepin junction. However, the busy Świecko junction was closed, with traffic diverted to other roads.

German farmers were also reported to be planning a blockade on the bridge at the Słubice border crossing, further complicating the situation.

Protesters from many EU member states join Polish farmers on Ukraine border

German, Belgian, Dutch, and French farmers have travelled across Europe (some on their tractors) to support the Polish farmers blockade of border crossings with Ukraine

In spite of having lost money and production while protesting against their own governments globalist and loonytoon environmental policies, farmers from across the European Union are travelling to join their Polish counterparts in staging a total blockade of the Ukrainian border in protest against cheap imports from the war-torn country.

Poland was until recently the strongest supporter of Ukraine in its war with Russia, but the policy of the EU Commission and the newly installed Tusk government's allowing Ukraine's bankrupt government to dump agricultural produce in European markets as prices with which EU farmers cannot compete is depriving EU agricultural workers and businessmen of their living.

The mass action in Poland is planned to conclude with a tractor march on Warsaw next week, but as we have witnessed elsewhere, when governments have failed to honour pledges made to defuse tensions with the food producers, civil unrest can quickly flare up again.

The current demonstrations are reportedly testing Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s steadfast support for Kyiv, although we doubt this as Tusk, a fanatical Eurofederalist, has shown in his first months in office he does not give a tuppeny fart about the welfare of Polish people.

The farmers’ protests now under way in Poland follow a two-month blockade by Polish truckers at major crossings points on the border with Ukraine, as they attempt to address local issues by disrupting imports and exports to and from Ukraine. However, the demonstrations are also the result of anger over economic, regulatory, and the EU’s green policies which though the lesser concern in Poland are the main complaints of farmers in other EU nations.

Farmers across the bloc argue that the costs of energy, fertilizer, and transport have risen, particularly in light of Russia’s war in Ukraine while their governments, in throwing money in the form of cash donations and deliveries of weapons, ammunition, and humanitarian aid at the Ukrainian side are impoverishing the people they are elected to serve.

On Feb. 18, truck traffic at the Dorohusk-Yahodyn border checkpoint was completely blocked by agricultural vehicles. According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the Polish farmers who have been blocking the checkpoint since Feb. 9 have been joined by farmers from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.

"Like A Warzone": Farmers Surround EU Headquarters Building

Despite attempts by the EU Commission and European governments to buy time in their efforts to defuse the incendiary farmers rebellion which has spread all over western Europe, the protests are escalating again as anger in the agricultural sector flares up again because the farmer feel politicians and bureaucrats are stalling the implementation of certain pledges on tax relief and easing of net zero restrictions.

Yesterday we reported that French farmers had disrupted an agricultural show in Paris. Today the main action moves across the border.

Hundreds of Belgian farmers on tractors clogged roadways around the European Council building. The stink of manure, burning tyres and teargas assaulted the olfactory organs of commuters on their was to work in Belgium's capital city Brussels this morning (26 February) as angry farmers surrounded the European Union headquarters in the city.

This protest was called to coincide with a meeting of the  EU bloc's agriculture ministers. Farmers, who have been protesting since November 2022 over the EU's disastrous green policies, rising energy prices and the importation of cheap food from third world countries which undercuts local produce due to the low wage costs, lax regulatory jurisdictions and huge subsidies paid by governments desperate to attract inflows of traded currencies.  Videos posted on X show the chaotic scenes in the streets and outside the EU headquarters building where fires were lit and protesters stopped people getting in and out of some access points.

Bloomberg reports that farmers are still angry about the bureaucratic complexities of doing business, trade deals with non - EU food producers, climate-related rules, rising costs of uel and energy and efforts to help Ukraine dump cheap grain onto European markets.

"There is a clear problem with the reduction of the import tariffs for Ukraine and massive imports of grain and poultry which depresses the prices," said Guillaume Van Binst, secretary general of the Federation of Young Farmers, adding: "The measures proposed by the commission are very weak and it is more passing the hot potato to member states."

Today's protest is the latest in a series of demonstrations by farmers across several EU countries, including France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Spain. Blue-collar workers are also furious about static or falling incomes in the face of inflation and problems in labour markets caused by uncontrolled mass immigration.

EU leaders are panicking as none of their efforts to blindside farmers organisations with distractions, empty promises and glad handing have succeeded in curbing the wave of social unrest spreading across the bloc.   While the farmers complain that promised changes have not materialised, the politicians and buraucrats are stil wriggling like maggots trying to escape from an anglers hook.
"It [the reforms] can always go more quickly, But we're already working faster than usually." David Clarinval, Belgium's agriculture minister, told reporters Monday. In other words, like all governments everywhere they are doing nothing slowly.

Clarinval said, "One can understand the anger of the farmers. One can also understand that some are in a difficult situation. But aggression has never been a source of solutions."

Obviously the farmers disagree and they are correct, when people are determined to ignore complaints nothing gets their attention better than a good hard kick up the arse.

What a mess Europe has become.
