The Green Revolution's Dirty Secret

Much of the chatter in mainstream media these days revolves around achieving 'net zero', completing the transition to a clean, green, prosperity free world in order to 'save the planet.' Whether the planet needs saving or not is moot, the powers that be have decided there is big money to be made from 'net zero' and the switch to 'sustainable' energy and also that granting themselves powers to ban freedom to travel, the right to refuse untested and potentially dangerous medication, and the right to speak our minds, criticise the government's policies, call out the pseudo - scientific bollocks cited by certain minorities in support of  ideologies that deny basic scientific truths offers a path to establishing the authoritarian, technocratic world government they have craved for almost a century.

All around the world politicians, banks, global corporations, electricity producers and healthcare providers have merged into a unified machine around the idea that the new, clean, green economy can be achieved via a just transition to a global energy system free of carbon emissions.

Unfortunately there can be no energy transition without critical minerals: no batteries, no electric cars, no wind turbines and no solar panels. The sun provides raw energy, but electricity flows most economically through copper. Wind turbines need manganese, platinum and rare earth magnets. Nuclear power requires uranium. Electric vehicles require batteries made with lithium, cobalt and nickel and magnets. Indium and tellurium are integral to solar panel manufacturing.” And the mining and refining of these minerals is a series of environmentally disastrous processes involving the release of vast amounts of substances among the most toxic known to science being released into the environment. And the manufacturing processes involved in making the products these materials are needed for are even more damaging.

But hey, we're not talking about measures to eliminate nasty toxic shite from the environment, the real enemy, according to academics, politicians and all manner of experts is Carbon Dioxide. OK, it may be a trace gas in the atmosphere, the presence of which is essential to the continuance of life on earth. The Science has declared CO2 the enemy and so we must strive to eliminate CO2 emissions from all human activity to create a clean, green, brave new world and never again dare to be so arrogant as to question The Science.

But exactly how clean and green is the net-zero economic strategy?  A commentary by veteran Canadian environmental journalist Andrew Nikiforuk. Writing in The Tyee, a Vancouver-based online publication, Nikiforuk reviews the work of academics and a “rising chorus of renewable energy sceptics” who believe that the great transition to a renewable energy future is a green pipe-dream that is “vastly destructive.”

He is not the only one thinking along these lines. The International Energy Agency (IEA) published a special report recently, setting out its proposals for achieving ‘Net Zero’ carbon emissions. One of its headline demands is that gas-fired domestic boilers should no longer be sold after 2025. This echoes one of the main policies in the UK government’s Net Zero plan. This is no coincidence. National governments, including the UK, draw all of their climate policies from faceless global agencies like the IEA (as well as domestic quangos like the Climate Change Committee). This process leaves out one important constituency: the public.

A ban on gas boilers will impose serious costs on ordinary people. A backlash is highly likely. You might think the practicalities of the policy would be of interest to journalists and the media. But journalists have taken the IEA’s proposals at face value, and have mainly reported them without scrutiny.

Nikiforuk is not writing for NetZeroWatch. Nor is he in the same camp as anti-renewable author Alex Epstein, whose book, Fossil Future, rips the renewable alternatives and champions oil and gas. At The Tyee, Nikiforuk continues his work as an anti-fossil-fuel environmental writer whose books include Tar Sands: Dirty Oil and the Future of a Continent, and The Energy of Slaves: Oil and the New Servitude.

In his new commentary, which has received far too little attention in the media and among policy-makers, Nikiforuk spares no one and pulls no punches. “For largely ideological reasons,” he writes, “many greens and ‘transitionists’ have presented the transition to renewables as a smooth road with no potholes.” Drawing on the work of an array of analysts and scientists, Nikiforuk describes the destructive forces that will be unleashed by the global push to replace fossil fuels.

Even If The Climate Threat Was Real And Not Grossly Overstated, Net Zero Is Unaffordable

Trillions of dollars need to be spent every year for almost three decades to hit net zero targets, according to consultancy McKinsey. On top of current spending, the equivalent of half of all corporate profits will have to be invested to tackle global warming, it says. McKinsey highlights that gaining acceptance will be tough, especially from those paying energy bills.

But the alternative is more extreme weather, scarmongering experts warn. Such warnings have been debunked many times of course, statistics show there are no more extreme weather events now than the annual average going back to the beginning of reliable records. The difference is that run of the mill local disasters are sensationalised by media to make them seem like global crises.

The McKinsey report estimated that the annual cost of getting to net zero - when carbon dioxide emissions are completely reduced or offset - will be $9.2tn (£6.8tn).

The world is already spending $5.7tn a year to lower the impact of fossil fuels and use alternatives.

However, an extra $3.5tn, every year from 2021 to 2050, will need to be put towards alternative energy sources and land use including agriculture to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, it said.

Much of the impact of the renewable crusade should be obvious. Solar panels, windmills or electric cars cannot be built without mining more copper, lithium, iron and aluminium. “That means vastly more destructive scraping and digging of ocean floors, rainforests and tundras on a scale inconceivable to most environmentalists.”

Nikiforuk then highlights the inconceivable scale of the taskes involved in replacing current infrasructure with 'net zero' compatible systems, citing various sources, including Simon Michaux at Finland’s Geological Society. Michaux calculates that to replace 46,423 power stations run by oil, coal, gas and nuclear energy would require the construction of 586,000 power stations run by wind, solar and hydrogen.

Another example: “Every electric vehicle contains about 75 kilograms of copper or three times more than a conventional vehicle. A single wind turbine generally contains 500 kilograms of nickel. That nickel requires 100 tonnes of steelmaking coal to be refined. And every crystalline silicon solar panel contains 20 grams of silver paste. It takes 80 metric tons of silver to generate approximately a gigawatt of solar power.”

On copper, Michaux states that current copper reserves at 880 million tonnes are equal to approximately 30 years of production. “But industry will need 4.5 billion tonnes of copper to manufacture just one generation of renewable technologies,” he estimates. “That’s six times the volume of copper mined throughout history.”

When the cost of keeping supply chains stable during the energy transition, as well as broad energy investment is accounted for, calculation of how much the transition to a CO2 neutral energy system is much higher than estimates quoted by economists working for governments.

In spite of these realities more than 130 countries have pledged net zero emissions by 2050. However most of these are socially developed nations that have de-industrialised over the past 30 years because it is cheaper to manufacture in low labour cost nations and ship goods half way round the world (on ships that emit Carbon Dioxide every inch of the way.) Others are small, economically undeveloped nations with small economies. Large carbon dioxide emitters such as China and India aren't part of the group.

There are also concerns thatof developed countries may shut down even more  their energy-intensive industries, and import these goods from other countries.

That means even if they get to net-zero, the world's emissions will not be reduced in the process. The whole farrago is so ridiculous it could be the script for a surreal comedy.

Eminent Oxford Scientist Says Wind Power "Fails On Every Count"
It could be argued that the basic arithmetic showing wind power is an economic and societal disaster in the making should be clear to a bright primary school child. Now the Oxford University mathematician and physicist, Professor Wade Allison has done the sums. “Wind power fails on every count,” he says, adding that governments are ignoring “overwhelming evidence and resorting to bluster rather than reasoned analysis”.

Hundreds of farmers have descended in their tractors on a small German coastal town to protest measures imposed by the European Union as part of the bid to 'save the planet' by reducing CO2 emissions from cow farts. 400 tractors reportedly gathered in Büsum on Wednesday to protest what is probably the most insane environmentalist policy dreamed up by the EU idealogues to date ...

Germany haemorrhaging cash to keep country running on as ‘net zero’ becomes zeroeconomic activity
Germany was so desperate to achieve 'net zero' CO2 emissions that for years the country's government closed its fossil fuel-fired and nuclear power plants, replacing those plants with wind and solar power — as well as impoorting huge volumes of natural gas and oil from Russia. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, when NATO (aka the U.S.A.) mandated that the West impose retaliatory sanctions on Russia, including a ban on importation of Russian gas and oil, Germany found itself in a hole:

Europe's Cold Spell Exposes Green Energy Policy Failure
So far the autumn of 2022 has been unusually mild which has had eco-warriors getting worked up and gluing their arses to motorways and airport runways to demand that we stop using oil. However winter temperatures across Europe predictably dropped sharply in late November and through most of December to date have been positively arctic. Scientists have offered the opinion that the cold weather spell the ongoing European gas crisis is now “likely” to worsen significantly as usual seasonal weather spreads across the northern half of the continent, bringing with it an increased need for domestic heating.

Minister's Claim That 40% UK Energy Comes From Renewables Is Technically Illiterate
Britain's newly installed Secretary of State for Energy, Grant Shapps, is still learning the job so perhaps we should cut him some slack, but even so a statement he made on our energy supply today shows astounding ignorance of technical details relating to his portfolio.
Answering a question in Parliament this morning about Britain's ability to reach its target of getting 40% of our energy needs from sustainable sources, Shapps sneered that it was not possible for us to reach 40% now as we already get 43% from wind. Unfortunately the sneering sarcasm was misplaced but served to reveal the man in charge of energy policy does not know the difference between energy and electricity.

Just When We Need It Most, Renewable Energy Disappears
In an encouraging sign of a great awakening, million of people in the UK are now, after a week of brutally cold, absolutely windless weather asking "Why have we wasted so much money on wind turbines and harvesting solar energy."

American Financial Meltdown? Troubled California Bank PacWest Craters 60% On Report It Is Seeking Buyers - Crisis Affects Other Banks

This morning  U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell openly lied to financial reporters during a  press conference stating without a hint of irony that the US banking system is "sound and resilient."

Ironically even as Powell was speaking the news broke that  another  bank collapse was on its say.

Shortly after the conference closed, Bloomberg reported that California-based bank, PacWest Bancorp., was weighing a range of strategic options, including a sale.

The Beverly Hills-based bank - whose financial conditions it appears has been far worse than the Fed, which had just hiked interest rates another 25bps (a quarter of one per cent,) calculated for - has been working with consultants and also been considering selling a huge slice of its business to raise capital according to Bloomberg. While it is open to an outright if the right offer (i.e. any offer,) comes along, , the company hasn’t yet started a formal auction process.

According to the report,  and similar to other recent bank collapses SVB and FRC, "a potential buyer would also have to potentially book a big loss marking down some of its loans, a spokesperson said."

the next regional bank collapse was on its say.

Shortly after the close, Bloomberg reported that another regional, California-based bank (of course), PacWest Bancorp., was weighing a range of strategic options, including a sale.

The Beverly Hills-based bank - whose financial conditions it appears has been far worse than the Fed, which just hiked another 25bps, thought - has been working with a financial adviser and has also been considering a breakup or a capital raise, according to Bloomberg sources. While it is open to a sale, the company hasn’t started a formal auction process.

According to the report,  and in a similar way to ,other recent bank collapses SVB and FRC, "a potential buyer would also have to potentially book a big loss marking down some of its loans, a spokesperson said."

Following publication of the Bloomberg report, PacWest - which had $28 billion in deposits at last check (far less as of this moment) and $44 billion in assets, saw its stock plunge more than 60% in the space of a few hours.

Earlier we reported that First Horizon tumbled as much as 40% after saying it and Toronto-Dominion Bank mutually agreed to terminate their merger agreement amid uncertainty around regulatory approvals.

Meanwhile, with the Fed still burying its head in the sand as an epic bank crisis hurtles towards the USA, Powell may be  hopeing that a avalanche of bank failures will make the Fed's job of sparking a recession, credit crisis and deflationary bust easier.

E U Leadership Endorses Dutch Government's Compulsory Buyoutand Closure Of Small Farms To Cut Nitrogen Emissions

EU backs Dutch government’s farm buyout plan to cut nitrogen pollution
Dutch Farmers have been protesting against farm closure plans for almost a year (Picture: Peter Dejong/AP)

Dutch government plans, fully reported by this blog towards the end of 2022, which would force farmers to cut nitrogen emissions from activity on their land, have been bulldozed through one of the remaining obsdtacles to their implementation when the unelected bureaucrats that make up the European Commission,  (European Union’s executive arm,) approved farm buyout schemes worth nearly 1.5 billion euros (£1.32bn).

The plans to reduce nitrogen emissions from agricultural activiy, mainly livestock farms,  on EU-designated areas of vulnerable nature (which seem always to be the areas most productive in supplying us with food for our tables, have sparked heated debate and widespread protests by angry farmers in a nation that is a major producer and exporter of farm products.

Dutch agricultural exports were worth 122.3 billion euros (£107bn) last year, according to the national statistics office. The Dutch ruling coalition wants to cut emissions of pollutants, predominantly nitrogen oxide and ammonia, by 50% nationwide by 2030.

The compulsory buyout schemes will improve the environment conditions in those areas and will promote a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production in the livestock sector, without unduly distorting competition

Nitrogen pollution makes climate change worse and can harm biodiversity, according to the UN Environment Programme, another supra - national agency staffed by corrupt scientists who will say anything they are paid to say and claim their diktat cannot be challenged because "we are scientists". Before we assign any credibility to these crooks and liars however, we should remind ourselves that nitrogen makes up 78% of the atmosphere - the air that we breathe. It is everywhere, you just can't get away from the stuff. Science my arse.

A key part of the Dutch strategy, which has little to do with science or climate change and a lot to do with the ruling elites' desire to destroy western civilisation in order to grab more power and exercise greater control, involves buying up and halting work at farms allegedly responsible for large-scale emissions of nitrogen. However, that required confirmation from the European Commission that the buyouts do not amount to state aid that is banned under EU rules.

Margrethe Vestager, executive vice-president in charge of competition policy, said in a statement that the two schemes approved would clear the way for the “voluntary closure” of farms responsible for major nitrogen emissions.

“The schemes will improve the environment conditions in those areas and will promote a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production in the livestock sector, without unduly distorting competition,” she said.

Clearly the powers that be are simply playing with words here. Telling farmers, "You will sell to the government at a price the government dictates, or the government will simply confiscate and close your business and you will get nothing," is not by any stretch of the warped, bureaucratic thinking that governs so much of our lives now, "voluantary".

A pro-agriculture political party formed only three years ago won Dutch provincial elections in March, underscoring the depth of discontent among farmers and other sections of society that has been fuelled by the nitrogen reduction plans.

The neo - fascist Dutch central government has tasked provincial legislatures with formulating and implementing exact proposals to reduce nitrogen emissions, ignoring the will of the people in the best tradition of fascism.

Farmers have held several large demonstrations, blocking highways and supermarket warehouses last year to protest against the reforms that they cast as a threat to their way of life. The demonstrations have also spread to neighbouring Belgium, where hundreds of farmers drove their tractors into central Brussels last month to protest against plans to cut nitrogen pollution and there have also been protests in Poland, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

On the upside there are signs this piece of eco-idiocy could be the torpedo that finally sinks the floundering EU.

This may seem like a case of the pot calling the kettle black given the Dutch government's plan to evict up to 3000 farmer from their land and return those acreages 'to nature' in a bid to lead the way among EU member states, to enforce total compliance with the latest loonytoons EU climate policy which requires EU members to reduce that dangerous pollutant nitrogen, which accounts for 78% of the air we breathe ...

Just When We Need It Most, Renewable Energy Disappears
In an encouraging sign of a great awakening, million of people in the UK are now, after a week of brutally cold, absolutely windless weather asking "Why have we wasted so much money on wind turbines and harvesting solar energy."
Yet when politicians are asked directly: "How do we keep the lights on and our homes warm when the wind does not blow and the sun is too low in the sky to make much impression on photovoltaic cells that do the business in solar panels?

Status Report On That War Thing In Ukraine: Nordstream to Bakhmut, electricity and water - December 2022

In the wake of attacks on the on the Stream pipelines, that effectively halted the flow of natural gas which German industry, commerce, agriculture and society relies on, and the terrorist attack on the Kerch Bridge, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken gloated that the attacks were a “tremendous opportunity” to weaken Moscow [...] And shortly after news of the Nord Stream sabotage broke on mainstream media, gas supply companies in the USA were offering to supply Europe with shipments of Liquid Natural Gas carried by supertanker to be sold to European nations at vastly inflated prices.

Dutch farmers block roads with tractors in protest of government plan to seize thousands of farms over “climate change”
With the cost of energy and food prices already sky high and set to go higher, the , billionaire psychopaths have declared war on the food that sustains us. The European Union having failed to completely remove the gas essential to all lifeforms, Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere, is now setting itself up to remove another esstential gas, nitrogen - which accounts for 70% of the air we breathe.

Who Is Winning In The New Scramble For Africa

As the internecine conflict in Sudan morphs into Africa's latest humanitarian crisis people in the compassion fatigued west heave a weary sigh and get ready to reach into their pockets, wall;ets and bank accounts once more as heart rending stories images of suffering and deprivation flood our media.

Reports of violence breaking out in Africa rarely raise eyebrows in the West these days. chances are the conflics seem far away both geographically and culturally to us and so we feel it has little to do with us, whatever 'progressives' and the woke brigade may deem the West’s historical responsibilities for the continent’s problems may be. But as the recent events in Sudan demonstrate, this is no longer the case. The turmoil unfolding there is of far more importance to us in a geopolitical sense than most previous ones.

While the fighting in Sudan is, on the face of it, little more than a power struggle between the two rival factions for control of the country, there is also an important international economic dimension to this conflict. At its heart is competition between the great powers for influence over the continent — what has been elsewhere been called the “new scramble for Africa”.

In view of Africa's its vast natural resources, including gold, its agricultural potential and its geopolitically strategic location, Sudan has long attracted regional and international power plays. In recent years, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Israel have all been cultivating economic and political ties with the country’s leadership  an,d its two warlords in particular.

Russia, however, stands out for its “special relationship” with Sudan. Putin made sure to cultivate an alliance with the country’s former leader, Omar al-Bashir, deploying the infamous Wagner Group in 2017 to provide him with political and military support. More importantly, that same year, al-Bashir signed a military cooperation agreement with Russia which included allowing the Russians to establish a military base along the Red Sea, ensuring a permanent presence for the Russian Navy in a crucial region and easy access to the Indian Ocean.

Al Bashir was overthrown in 2019 but Putin shrewdly switched his support to Sudan's new military leaders and continue to advance Russia's economic and political interests in the region. When considered in the context of China's expansion of commercial and political influence in Africa and other parts of the developing world, and the efforts of Saudi Arabia and Iran to promote their different brands of Islamism, the current conflict in Ukraine can be seen from a different angle, not so much a local conflict as part of a bigger face off between proponents of a monopolar world led by the USA and a multipolar world with economic and military power centred in the east rather than the west.

Africa, South America and parts of Asia have been the scene of Western (more recently US) political and economic meddling and manipulation for generations and the results haven’t always been pretty for the locals as Washington has systematically used the status of the US$ to crush other economic powers. Awkward questions have often been fobbed off with “He may be a tin-pot dictator but he’s our tin-pot dictator”

Is it surprising or disappointing to see that Russia and China can and do play the same game and have been doing it for years. While westrern governments have been pandering to the wimpish bleatings of extremist left wing minorities and pumping aid into African and other impoverished regions the Russians and Chinese have been making deals that benefitted their own interests as much as the places their investments helped develop.

Does anyone still think that nothing happens in Africa unless the US signs off on it? The West is fully engaged in using the cult of climate hysteria to solidify central planning political power. Much of the “science” has been either questioned or de-bunked entirely yet the propaganda and witch-hunts continue apace. It is China and Russia that are securing the supplies of natural resources essential to implement Western eco-diktats like Net-Zero. Are those deals fair and equitable? Probably not. Are they debt traps? Probably. But these deals are getting done and the Belts and Roads are actually being built.

Conversely, I invite you to behold Canada’s narcissistic sock model Trudeau. Canada just guaranteed Volkswagen $13B in subsidies for an EV battery plant. That announcement follows the uncharacteristically frank statement by Trudeau that Canada will probably never meet its NATO spending commitment (he’s somewhat less frank about admitting Canada hasn’t met any emissions targets). He was recently in New York crowing about this deal. The deal is secret (of course) but Trudeau claims Canada is such a wonderful place to do business that VW actually turned down more money from the US (Translation: Canada has made concessions that even the US wouldn’t consider). Meanwhile Canada has large lithium deposits that will endure years of regulatory reviews and court challenges before they ever see the light of day.

Clearly, Canada is not a global player but IMO this sort of reality-defying pretzel logic is indicative of Western leadership right now and clearly the BRICS + countries are taking advantage of it.

Russia's Surprise Withdrawal From Syria? "If We Don't Go Away, We Can't Come back Again.
There is no doubt that the withdrawal is not quite what it seems to be, but more likely a tactical move by the Russians. The Kremlin feels it has done enough to secure the regime of President Assad, the remnants of the Sunni Muslim Free Syrian Army are no longer capable of mounting a challenge and the Syrians, along with Shi'ite militias in Iraq and Kurdish irregulars, backed by Iranian Republic an Guard troops ought to be capable of dealing with ISIS

So why we wonder is the USA taking its drone war against the third world into deepest, sub Sahran Africa? Heat pumps epitomise the economic folly of net zero

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/04/13/heat-pumps-epitomise-the-economic-folly-of-net-zero/

Amid the ballyhoo from scaremongers, sciencevangelists, mathematical model merchants and research grant phishing experts about the need to achieve Net Zero if we are to 'save the planet,' there is little concrete evidence that the climate chaos we are seeing is solely the result of a slight increase in levels of Carbon Doioxide (CO) in the atmospehere (240 parts per million to 405 parts per million,) since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Despite this being a very marginal change a constant barrage of propaganda and the 'cancelling' of any scientist or medua commentator who challenged this 'existential threat from human made climate change narrative has made it almost impossible to have a civilised debate on the topic or to present a dissenting case. It has also rendered impossible  a logical analysis of the wider impact on economic and social activities.

For all the magical thinking and grandiose pledges about green jobs and technologies, the true benefits of reducing CO2 emissions from human activity appear trivial when compared with the massive scale of costs incurred in replacing electricity distribution  grids in developed nations and increasing generating capacity while simultaneously shutting down all industrial activities involving oil, natural gas and coal. The huge destruction of our existing capital stock, from cars to industrial machinery would impose so great a cost as to make 'net zero' unchhievable without destroying industrial civilisation totally.

A good example of the follies spawned by the 'net zero'v policy is the UK government's plan to force households to replace their efficient and relatively cheap to run gas fired heating systems with expensive, inefficient and unreliable heat pumps. Now heat pumps are not a new technology, they have been around for roughly a hundred years, think of a fridge, freezer or air conditioning system in reverse.

OK, now think of a three-bedroom house currently heated by gas. Official figures suggest that installing an air source heat pump, upgrading radiators and improving insulation could cost £15,000 or more. Even after spending that money, many will find the system inadequate and require a gas or mains electricity system as backup.

But this is only the tip of the iceberg. That heat pump will require green electricity if it’s to help meet net zero. So we must also allow for building and operating the wind farms, backup storage and grid network needed to replace gas heating with electricity. All those costs must be recovered through higher electricity prices, or direct government subsidies. Even if energy costs revert to “normal” pre-2021 levels, my calculations suggest that electricity prices could well double.

Along with the higher demand, and allowing for a reduction in gas use, this could be equivalent to a net increase in bills of £1,000-£1,200 per year for our hypothetical 3-bedroom house. Moreover, we must allow for the higher costs of servicing and eventually replacing heat pumps.

And the heat pump policy is only the start of our Net Zero capital losses. Schools, hospitals, offices, shops and factories will have to be extensively refurbished or replaced to accommodate electric heating, and will then incur higher operating costs. A significant fraction of buildings and other assets could be abandoned as no longer economic because many older houses, apartment blocks and commercial buildings are totally unsuitabe for installation of heat pump technology. That could have the knock on effect of driving up both residential and commercial rents paid by housing tenants and businesses.

Then, there is transport and the hasty replacement of petrol or diesel vehicles by electric vehicles to consider, not that people would be able to travel far when all the roads are being dug up to facilitate the installation of higher capacity electricity cables. Less obviously we must allow for the reorganisation of urban and suburban areas in the name of Net Zero and “15-minute neighbourhoods”. Our whole social infrastructure – shopping, schools, community facilities – has been built over many decades on the assumption of cheap private and public transport. A large part of this may have to be replaced, at as yet unknown, but certainly prohibitive cost.

Detailed calculations by the Cambridge engineer Professor Michael Kelly suggest that the investment required for the current Net Zero timetable will exceed £3 trillion, or 1.2 times UK GDP. Either other investment must decline or the burden will fall on household spending. You will not find Prof Kelly's research reported anywhere in mainstream media of course.

In summary, in pursuit of Net Zero by 2050, around a quarter of all UK investment will be devoted to replacing existing assets. The knock-on effect means that what’s left of the UK’s original asset base could well get older and more expensive to operate. Prospects for future improvements in productivity or healthcare or education are at risk of shrivelling in the face of endless demands to fund the energy transition.

So far we have only looked at the green dreams of research grant phishing scientists and environmentalist crusties. Let's now turn our attention to more prosaic matters.

If you look at a weather forecast for five hours hence it makes its predictions in the form of statistical probabilities but often even those turn out to be substantially wrong. So how can there possibly be a 'climate crisis' based on forecasts of what will be happening decades hence?

The whole carbon story treats the world as a simple system where you take a couple of data points and join them up with a straight line. Already it is clear to any sane observer that it doesn't behave like that at all. Based on the predictions of a couple of decades ago the academics who started this bandwaggon were assuring us that Britain would be a flaming desert by now. How can they keep taking their fat grants and live with themselves?

Any forecasts based on existing facts (and presumably they do and are not pure fiction) exhibit something called variance and this increases the further ahead in time you push your prediction. By the time you get to 20 years hence the range of possible outcomes covers a huge range. So precise predictions are nonsense, however big the computer is which churns them out. The grounds therefore for economically damaging the country are based on the flimsiest basis. The science is not remotely 'settled' although certain charlatans claim that it is. No-one thinks 'pollution' to be a good thing but impoverishing the nation for one relatively unimportant component of it is rank folly.

Those in power, those in technocratic positions, think tanks and advisory panels are as knowledgeable on climate science, electrical power systems, or large scale industrial engineering and economics as a people of an amazonian rain forest trible  would be on developing computer systems. The sooner there is a great purge of eco zealots and Cultural Marxists from government and senior positions in businesses and media the better.

The most disappointing thing about this allegely Conservative government is the way they have abandoned  all conservative priniciples which are all about spending wisely and conserving things which work and are effective rather that throwing money at that which is novel, fashionable and unproven. Instead they have jumped on the globalist bandwagon and embraced a system most appropriately named by george Orwell in his novel '1984', Oligarchic Collectivism. Gas boilers ,air travel , old houses and petrol cars have to go because they are old. Never mind that they work, and never mind the evidence stacking up that the proposed alternatives don't. Despite the cost and oddly the ultimate lack of benefit to the climate or indeed our homes we must move with the times, change is saxred, science is God..

At the risk of stating the absolutely effing obvious stating the bleeding obvious  Net zero is all cost and near zero benefit .

Official Advice - Prepare For Blackouts This Winter
The UK government is putting plans together for days of organised blackouts this winter, in what they call a "reasonable worst-case scenario" for energy shortages, according to reports in manstream media. We need energy security – not Net Zero
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted a major rethink in the West. We have suddenly found ourselves vulnerable not just to rising prices in oil and gas, but also to inflation in other commodities – such as food and fertiliser. Of all these problems, the security of our energy supply has most exercised minds.
