It's Worse Than 2008": CEO Of World's Leading Shipping Company Delivers Downbeat Assessment Of Global Economy

While governments and mainstream media news continue to peddle a rosy picture of economic prospects, achieved by statistical jiggery pokery, money printing and they good old fashioned political ploy of telling blatant lies, the real economic indicators tell us this economic view is an illusion. Every month governments tell us the unemployment figure is down but do not tell us how many people have been eliminated from the figure because they have been jobless so long they are no longer classed as being in the labour market.

And every quarter we are told the economy has grown but are not told this growth is achieved by governments printing money, handing it out in grants and benefits and then counting it as growth when the recipients spend it.

Real economic indicators tell a different story however.  

Earlier this week we highlighted the abysmal results reported by marine transport giant Maersk, a company that moves more containerised freight that its major rivals put together.

To the extent that it is the largest player in The Baltic Dry Index, probably the most reliable measure of economic activity, the conglomerate is a bellwether for global growth and trade and the economic health of developed nations, thus things are looking pretty grim. Maersk Line - the company's golden goose and the world's largest container operator, racked up losses of $182 million in the last quarter of 2015 and the outlook for 2016 isn't pretty either. The company now sees demand for seaborne container transportation rising a meager 1-2% for the year.


“The demand for transportation of goods was significantly lower than expected, especially in the emerging markets as well as the Group’s key Europe trades, where the impact was further accelerated by de-stocking of the high inventory levels,” the company said, in its annual report.

Just how bad have things become in this time of contracting global trade, you might well ask?

Worse than 2008 according to Maersk CEO Nils Andersen who warned back in November 2015 that “the world’s economy is growing at a slower pace than the International Monetary Fund and other large forecasters are predicting.” Here’s what Andersen told the Financial Times:

    “It is worse than in 2008. The oil price is as low as its lowest point in 2008-09 and has stayed there for a long time and doesn’t look like going up soon. Freight rates are lower. The external conditions are much worse but we are better prepared.”

As the FT goes on to note, "capacity in the container shipping industry increased 8 per cent in 2015 despite the fact that Maersk only sees global trade and therefore demand growing at between 1% and 3% in 2016". 

Imports to Brazil, Europe, Russia, and Africa are all falling, Andersen warned. The company's business, Andersen says, is suffering from a "massive deterioration." That, you can bet, will likely lead to a "massive deterioration" in Maersk's shares, which took a substantial hit on Wednesday in the wake of the quarterly and annual results.

Through it all, Andersen is attempting to strike an upbeat tone: "We are very strongly placed not only to get through this period but benefit from it. We are quite enthusiastic about it," he said.

Check back in six months to see how "enthusiastic" Andersen is once he realizes the slump in global growth and trade is no longer cyclical but has in fact become structural and endemic.

Clooney, Streep Open Berlin Islamophiliac Film Festival

Hollywood will be out in force to kick off the Berlin film festival Thursday, with Meryl Streep joining George Clooney and the Coen brothers for the event where Europe’s refugee crisis will also play a starring role.

The 11-day Berlinale which, like most film festivals in Europe except for Cannes and Venice, is usually ignored by Hollywood is this year attracting the 'liberal' airheads of Hollywood as they see a chance to indulge in the favourite pastime of rich, talentless American media luvvies by meddling in things they don't understand.

Clooney, a pretty, simpering dimwit actor who, in one of the festival's main attractions, Hail Caesar, plays pretty, simpering dimwit actor (the role he is cast in whatever his vehicle), is expected on the red carpet with his wife Amal and co-stars Channing Tatum and Tilda Swinton.

“Hail, Caesar!” made by ultra 'liberal' brothers Joel and Ethan Coen who used to make decent films until they decided their job was not to entertain us but to brainwash us with politically correct propaganda, opened in the United States last week to the predictable rave reviews from presstitutes but modest (less be honest, effing disastrous,) box office returns, is screening at the festival.

Streep is serving as this year’s jury president, judging 18 contenders from around the world.

The three-time Oscar winner and her team including British actor Clive Owen will on February 20 hand out the Golden Bear top prize, which last year went to Iranian dissident filmmaker Jafar Panahi for “Taxi”, which he made in secret.

Among the world premieres generating buzz ahead of the start was a new adaptation of the international bestseller “Alone in Berlin”, Hans Fallada’s 1947 novel based on a true story.

The Nazi-era thriller sees Emma Thompson and Brendan Gleeson play a German couple who risk their lives to mount a resistance campaign against Hitler after losing their only son in the war.

As Europe endures the largest refugee influx since World War II, with 1.1 million asylum seekers arriving in Germany last year, the theme of migration will be front and centre at the event. In other words it is just a propaganda festival. Ignore everything to do with it.

Slowly but surely our language is being stolen from us by the most sinister and menacing manifestation of Marxist authoritarianism ever, the  Politically Correct Though Police. Their strictures, imposed in the name of equality and multicultiralism become more ridiculouis day by day. Pretty soon we aren’t going to be able to use very many words anymore or do anything because we might (GASP!) offend someone.

We live in a world where cocaine addicted ex rent-boys can rise to high office and then lecture the general population on equality and gay rights while signing executive orders for the killing by drone attack of innocent third world peasants, blowing up children, women and old people with drones and calling them collateral damage in  wars started for the purpose of securing power for the elite while making profit for the military - industrial complex.

Social engineering has turned average people into walking arguments that the film Idiocracy was actually a documentary, busily wasting their time fretting over how potentially offensive otherwise innocuous words are.

Human beings are mammals. A female mammal who has children has traditionally been called a “mother” or “mom,” to separate this mammal linguistically from the male version, who has traditionally been called a “dad” or “father”.

Well, not anymore in one Florida college classroom where a professor has decided that language is offensive because it isn’t “inclusive” enough.

The syllabus explains that this means replacing the words “boyfriend”/”girlfriend” with the more inclusive “partner” or “significant other.” The rule applies to conversations about married couples too: saying “husband” or “wife” is forbidden. Even the words “mom” and “dad” have a more “inclusive” alternative — students are told to use the word ‘family” instead.

So there is no such thing as a “mom” or a “dad” or a “husband” or a “wife” in that
PC brainwashing labclassroom. Sounds like a good place for a mime to hang out…

By using the new words, the college explains, students will be using speech that “is inclusive of alternative orientations and family structures, and free of stereotypes.”

Find one person walking around on this planet who didn’t have a mother and a father, if even only at the moment they were born? They got here somehow.

Pretty soon the only way to be “free of stereotypes” will be to not speak at all.

Surging Support for Germany’s Anti Immigration AfD Party Shows Contempt For Merkel's Open Doors Policy

Germany's Eurosceptic start - up political party, Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) which has founded its manifesto on the failure and unpopularity of Hausfrau Volksfuhrer Merkel's immigration policy that opened Germany's doors and offered the generous benefits paid by the German welfare system to all comers has seen a surge in support nationwide polling at 13 percent, following an upsurge in immigrant violence and lawlessness, according to a recent Insa poll, published by German newspaper Bild.

The Euroskeptic right-wing party has moved ahead of some mainstream parties because its anti-refugee rhetoric chimes with the anti-immigration sentiments felt by people angry that some refugees sexually harassed hundreds of women in Cologne on New Year's Eve, 2015. Chancellor Angela Merkel opened Germany's door to a million asylum seekers in 2015 and continues to insist Germany accepts all who turn up at its borders without passports or any kind of identification.

Germany's "We can do it" policy backfired on the politically correct politicians of the governing coalition following the prospect of another million or more 'refugees' (mostly economic migrants but including terrorists and criminals fleeing justice) arriving in 2016. A recent survey by German television news channel ARD, suggests that 51 percent of people are against the policy.

Following the sexual assaults of women in Cologne vigilante groups began to take the law into their own hands, marching through the streets carrying "rapefugees not welcome" signs and placards. Neo-nazi group Pegida meet each week in Dresden. A recent rally attracted 40,000 supporters, suggesting the anti-immigrant right-wing movement is gaining support in Germany.

With the AfD party reaching 13 percent in recent opinion polls, the movement is no longer confined to the political fringes, as government politicians insist, but threaens the stability of Merkel's fragile ruling coalition and her partners shift policy to align thenselves with public feeling.

Deputy leader of the AfD Alexander Gauland described Merkel's refugees policies as a "gift" to his party, and the opinion polls appear to prove that. A recent survey by ARD-Deutschlandtrend suggests support for the nationalists had risen to 13 percent, making it the third strongest political party in Germany.

Christians, Gays, Women Fleeing European Asylum Centres After Persecution By Muslim Men

The United Screechers of Cultural Marxism are always quick to blame any criticism of the mass immigration policies forced on the people by authoritarian, left wing politicians and power drunk bureaucrats as bigoted, racist and xenophobic. Unfortunately the commies and Trotsykites are not literate enough to understand what these words really mean. And when a properly educated (rather that university brainwashed) person points out that bigoted mean being totally unwilling to consider differing points of view, which is more in line with the attitudes displayed by the commies and Trotskyites, xenophobia means an irrational fear of any and all foreigners and racist means believing people of certain races are inferior beings, it just sets them off calling literate people fascists (which again they don't know the meaning of).

In the case of Europe's immigration crisis, much of the fear and loathing is being caused by Muslim males. Most Europeans do not have a problem with foreigners or dark skinned people who are willing, if not to integrate fully into the host society, at least to obey its laws and accept local customs and traditions. And one tradition we in the nations that emerged from, what shall we say to avoid controversy, the Graeco - Roman, Celtic - Scandinavian and Germanic cultures is the common understanding that if a woman goes out alone, with arms and legs showing and face and hair uncovered, it does not mean she is up for having rough sex (or any kind of sex for that matter) with you.

Some people tell us we have misunderstood Islam and that all Muslims are lovely people and if a Muslim man rapes a woman it is her fault. If that is true, why do we keep reading stories like this?

German newspaper Die Welt, the violence toward ethnic minorities, religious minorities and women continues to skyrocket across German asylum centres. Here's an extract of Die Welt's article translated for us by Fatsally:

Women and Christians fleeing from lodgings

In Germany's refugee centres, there are often serious conflicts between different [ ethnic and religious ] groups. Women, Christians and homosexuals are particularly often subjected to harassment, violence and sexual abuse by Muslim men and are now being housed separately.

Torn Bibles and insults, desicrated crosses and even physical violence are common: The complaints about violence in refugee camps are not decreasing. Particularly affected by the tense mood in many crowded mass lodgings are women, homosexuals and religious minorities.

Christian refugees in Stuttgart complained of abuse and harassment by Muslim roommates, and the town now has to offer segregated accommodation claims to some migrants in a different hotel in Neugereut district.

A district centre, which mainly takes care of Assyrian Christians from Syria and Iraq, called for this drastic and controversial measure, also the Central Oriental Christians appealed in an online petition to the city signed by almost 17,000 people: "Please allow the joint accommodate displaced Christians in Stuttgart-Neugereut and keep these characterized from further distress and persecution to which they are exposed in a decentralized accommodation again. "


Further reports complain that Muslim men tear up Bibles and assault Christians, sexually abuse women and children, and beat up homosexuals. The news has led to calls from human rights campaigners to say enough is enough.

The Stuttgart case (above) centred on abuse of Assyrian Christians by Muslim roommates insensitively assigned by do - gooders in the local bureaucracy who obviously are so stupid they though they were striking a blow for multiculturalism'. The petition, organised by the Central Oriental Christians, asked the City of Stuttgart to, "please accommodate the displaced Christians in Stuttgart-Neugereut and keep them from further distress and persecution to which they are exposed in a decentralised accommodation."

One would think that even the kind of idiots who work in the public sector would understand that after two thousand years of trying to exterminate Syriac Christians, fundamentalist Muslims are not going to be the best choice of roomate for them.

A separate asylum centre for 30 Christians from Syria has now been approved by the council. City official Sven Matis told Die Welt that after speaking to the district assistant they would be able to approve accommodation for the 30 Christians in Neugereut by the end of April.

Martin Lessenthin, CEO of the International Society for Human Rights also commented on the systematic persecutions of Christians all across German asylum homes. He said it was common to see both Christians and Yazidis subject to torment and beatings and while it is not desirable to accommodate migrants separately, it may be inevitable for the safety of the minorities.

So you see, it is not 'Muslims' that are causing problems in Europe although the sheer numbers and the burden on national infrastructure that many new arrivals causes are a concern. The anger is at young, mostly unattached Muslim males. The hand wringing, self righteous, liberals, socialists and Trotskyites may try to make poltical capital out of misrepresenting the situation, but all that is proved is the screeching and breast beating about minority rights, gay rights and women's rights is pure hypocrisy because all are trumped by this week's fashionable cause, Muslims rights (including the right to rape, beat up and terrorise.

New Hampshire Primary:Sanders and Trump Victory For Vox Populi

There was an almost audible sigh of relief from the political establishment when Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and posh lady Hillary Clinton (D-Blomingdales) won the US Republican and Democratic Party nomination contests in Iowa, the first contest of the 2016 Presidential Election pageant. The mavericks Donald Trump (Republican, sort of) and Bernie Sanders (Democrat, sort of) who had led in opinion polls were beaten (in very dubious circumstances in the case of Sanders defeat by Hillary Clinton, who won the nomination because her campaign manager won 6 precincts on a coin toss by calling, correctly, HEADS each time. What are the odds against that?)

The British media, for the main part Obama fans since 2007 and therefore eager to acclaim his chosen successor, almost collectively orgasmed: "OMG Trump lost!" one headline read while others proclaimed that Sanders (only beaten on the six tossed of a double headed coin you must remember) was finished, his campaign was over and that in November President Hillary would be crowned according to plan.

A week later in New Hampshire where both parties have a proper 'primary' election as opposed to a caucus a system that apparently chooses candidates by tossing coins, drawing lots, cutting cards or maybe in extreme cases, making the candidates have a fight, it was a different. UK media today focused on the idea that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Donald Trump have “shaken up” the Presidential race.

That ought to be good headline, but it is too late. Sanders and Trump and the American public shook up the Presidential race when they announced their candidacies months ago, and the public, bored with machine politics and boring banality spouting half wits like Barack Obama and sickened by the self interest of Washington politicians, as Robert Burns might have put it, 'bought and paid for with corporate gold'*.

This morning as Sanders' and Trumps' supporters celebrate their victories, nobody in the political establishment or the mainstream media can understand how this has happened.

The case is no one in the establishment media could predict this departure from the script because increasingly over the past forty or maybe fifty years Washington insiders and political journalists have lived in a bubble, isolating themselves more and more from what the ordinary punters think.

“Surely America will come to its senses?” has been the refrain throughout the run up to this Presidential election campaign. They cannot see that American voters have come to their senses, they have rejected the politically correct consensus that has made the two parties indistinguishable, they have rejected the back room deal making and the short term self interest of machine politics. They have voted for the outsiders.

Mainstream commentators cannot fathom why the “anointed ones,” candidates Jeb Bush (son and bother of former Presidents) and Hillary Clinton (wife of a former President), aren’t being propelled to victory by their politically correct, controversy avoiding banality and cynical attempt to appeal to minorities, disregarding the interests of those groups whose votes they take for granted.

Today, television and print news across the USA and around the world country have been forced to wake up to the idea that the tsunami of anti-establishment feeling surging through Europe as evidence by the rise of national interest parties such as France's Front National, UKIP in Britain, AFD in Germany and the Sweden Democrats, all opposed to mass immigration and the further transfer of national sovereignty to unelected Bureaucrats, has reached the USA. There people have seen President Obama support terorists sworn to harm US interests, show contempt for the constitution, divide the nation racially and try to surrender sovereignty to the United Nations. Here's how the UK media see it:

The BBC leads with: “Both candidates are riding on a wave of discontent with mainstream politics”.

The Independent says: “Outsiders Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders were handsomely rewarded by the voters of New Hampshire on Tuesday night – with predictions handing them huge wins over their establishment rivals”.

The Guardian reports: “Donald Trump, once an object of mockery and scorn by many in the political establishment, has won the New Hampshire Republican primary.”

The Daily Mail notes: “About half [of Republican voters] also said they want the next U.S. president to be someone who comes from outside America’s political ‘establishment.'”

From the Telegraph: “Maverick candidates Trump and Sanders rock US political establishment”.

The Huffington Post UK states: “Both winners peddle a strong ideological message at odds with the country’s political mainstream”.

Westminster’s most establishment magazine, the Spectator said in its online edition: “Populism won tonight in New Hampshire. Rage against the elite won tonight in New Hampshire”.

But the Murdoch press wasn’t quite as conciliatory, after Mr. Trump declared war against his Fox News Channel by refusing to attend the debate in Iowa.

The Times front page proclaimed: “Donald Trump won the New Hampshire primary last night – the surest sign yet that voters are ready to put a billionaire former reality TV star with no political experience into the world’s most powerful executive position.”

Now The Circus Rolls On To South Carolina

South Carolina is a very different proposition to New Hampshire,  a poor state with a large black population it tends to vote along racial lines, white voters for Republicans, black voters solidly Democrat.  US mainstream commentators claim the state's  economic environment has improved dramatically from 2012, when the state's unemployment rate was approaching 10 percent at the time of the primary. The official rate was down to 5.5 percent in December, largely because of Obama's waitresses and bartenders recovery, and while statistical jiggery pokery masks the blight of of underemployment (part time working) wage levels are static and poverty is a problem even for many of those in work. (American readers may think I'm tearing your country apart, not so, on my UK blog I am far more scathing about British politicians failure to deal with long running problems)

South Carolina has a reputation for picking winners. so the Republican race is one to watch. For the Democrats, Hillary looks to have a comfortable lead in polls at the moment and is popular with black voters  and even though bernie Sanders is gaining ground he has a lot to make up, so the biggest chance of a surprise is whether hilly will still be in the race or in jail because of the 'Servergate' scandal by then.

The Republican race is the one to watch however. When the candidates debate in Greenville on 13 February, if Donald Trump performs well he should consolidate his lead in the opinion polls, Marco Rubio looks to have blown his chance through stage fright and failure to engage with voters. Can Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz or one of the others stage a comeback?

Sanders vs Trump for the Presidential Election still looks a good bet though.

President Eisenhower was the World War 2 allied commander who led the Normandy Invasion and a popular two-term President of the United States from 1953 to 1960. In the current political atmosphere he would be dismissed as a “conspiracy theorist.”

Were Ike running for the Republican nomination in 2016, Republicans like Senators Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio would be screaming at Ike for criticizing “the patriotic industry that protects our freedom,” while supporters of Barack Obama would be yelling about the need for military intervention to overthrow human rights abuing dictators like Basar Al Assad, and the already disposed of (at great human and material cost to their nations) Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi.

Worse, the Democrat / Republican political puppets in the USA would be supported by European leaders including Prime Minister David Cameron in the UK, France's Francois Hollande and Germany's Angela Merkel who, even as I type, are preparing massive interventions in Libya and Iraq, both turned into chaotic and lawless failed states by previous US / European interventions that deposed nasty and undemocratic dictators who at least gave most of the people (those who did not oppose them) stability and a degree of prosperity.

Today's 'Neocons' would be demanding to know why the RINO Eisenhower was speaking against US interests rather than warning against Soviet imperialism and left wing media would be hinting darkly that Ike was suffering from dementia (as they did when physicist Freeman Dyson rubbished the junk science of global warming.)

Cold Warriors kept the west on high alert against the communist threat and kept their claws in the flesh of western taxpayer from the end of WW II to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990 and the liberalisation of China around the same time.

The military-industrial complex had learned how to play the government systems, research and development projects were awarded on a 'cost plus' basis, guaranteeing profit no matter by how much budgets were exceeded. Armaments industries and military bases were spread over nations, distribution based more on how much the incumbent political party wanted to hold the constituency than any strategic consideration.

No matter how pressing the economic and social problems facing nations, military spending always took priority. If it's any comfort the Russians were equally obsessed with defence projects, though their government was driven more by collective paranoia than corporate greed.

The Cold War created a lot of millionaires.

There no danger at any time of the Red Army invading Europe. Uncle Joe Stalin (a madman whose appetite for slaughter made Hitler look like an amateur) declared “socialism in one country” and purged the Russian Communist Party of Trotskyists who preached world revolution.

Now people are waking up to the fact that the real threat to freedom and democratic rule was posed by the shadow governments, the corporate investors, bankers and political backroom deal - makers, who meet in closeted cabals to plan a society in which governments control our finances and thus our actions.

 

This is why we must resist all attempts to extend government secrecy (negotiation of TTIP treaty in secret for example) and interventions into our lives and to curtail free speech.

Sex Pistols front man Johnny Rotten once said, never trust a fahkin hippy, they're all just capitalists. (I trust you understand the phonetic spelling, just trying to capture the essence of the man). Looking at news coming out of California, birthplace of the hippy movement, I understand exactly what he meant. Take this extract of an article posted on Natural News.

The state’s schools are now being penalized financially for not enforcing mandatory vaccinations; meanwhile children are being expelled for having a genetic predisposition to certain diseases – even when they don’t actually have the diseases in question.

Despite much controversy and outrage over California’s vaccination laws, it seems that now health officials are emboldened to push even more authoritarian measures regarding the ‘health’ of the state’s citizens.

California has some of the strictest mandatory vaccination laws in the country. Natural News founder Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, has written extensively about the bullying and poisoning of the populace at the behest of Big Pharma – in California, particularly.

So that sums it up, all the 'love and peace, maaaan' or 'live like you wanna live' was bullshit all along, the birthplace of the hippy culture is now a fascist regime which really says 'live like you wanna live, so long as you wanna live like the authorities tell you to.

Or maybe way back in the sixties when they said we should forget selfishness and live for each other, they realy meant we should live for the state and its ruling elite. As long ago as 1870 the Russian anarchist Mickhail Bakunin told Karl Marx a communist government would quickly become more oppressive than Russia's Cazrist monarchy (though not in such succinct terms, brevity is not natural to intellectuals). How right was he?

Unfortunately for fans of Bakunin, the anarchic hippys have proved that an anarchist regime would end up being more authoritarian than fascists.

Facebook Hamstrung In France; India Outlaws Its Free-Net Service

France's privacy authority has ordered that internet social media monster Facebook must stop collecting French users' information without their consent, and transferring data to the US.

A decision published by the CNIL (French commission for information protection) underlined how Facebook's practice of tracking non-users' Internet activities without their consent failed to comply with EU privacy regulation.

The CNIL also stated that Facebook's collection of data "concerning the sexual orientation, religious views and political opinions" of its users and the subsequent transfer to the US was in violation of the law. It added that the social network's password policy did not ensure maximum security to users.

The decision builds on a landmark EU ruling that last year struck down the Safe Harbor Pact, a transatlantic agreement that allowed American companies operating in Europe to send some information offshore. The verdict is thought to have been heavily influenced by Edward Snowden's revelation about US surveillance activities in Europe.

A new agreement, Privacy Shield, has been negotiated to replace the defunct Safe Harbor, but it is not in force yet and has been dismissed as the EU regulator as 'just words'. EU data protection authorities are still assessing its impact on transatlantic data transfer but Facebook has a track record of signing privacy protection agreements and then simply ignoring them.

Ahead of France's decision, Facebook had declared that it was in compliance with the EU regulation, and that it did not rely on Safe Harbor as the legal basis for moving data offshore.

Now, France's ruling, which sets a precedent other EU nations are likely to follow, will force Facebook to review its policies within three months.

Opposition From EU Members Sinks Brussels' Refugee Quotas Plan

European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker (aka Jean Claude Drunkard on account of his penchant for drinking brandy at breakfast, lunch and dinner and with his between means snacks) in not happy that his flagship plan to stem Europe’s migration crisis by redistributing refugees, asylum seekers and illegal immigrants around the bloc to make them less visible is falling apart as EU states refuse to share the burden that the Brussels bureaucrats and Hausfrau - Volksfuhrer Merkel have inflicted on the European Union through politically correct but logically idiotic policies.

Diplomats, E U officials and aid workers have told Agence Presse France (AFP) that
since the the scheme was forced on EU member states by the bureaucratic dictatorship without consultation last September, the goal of to relocating 160,000 asylum seekers from frontline states Greece and Italy, to other European Union countries have moved at a snail’s pace, taking in just 500 people as nation after nation refused to cooperate.

Having rammed through his pet project for easing a crisis that saw more than one million people flood Europe’s shores last year, former Luxembourg premier Juncker last month vowed “not to give up” on the scheme.

But two EU diplomats, an official from an EU country, a sociologist, and an aid worker working with migrants spoke of growing doubts the plan will succeed in the face of determined opposition from many governments in the 28-nation bloc.
