Tear Gas, Water Cannons Use By Police In Germany As Leftist Neo-Nazis, Riot

Protests by left wing trouble makers trying to halt a PEGIDA anti - immigrant march turned nasty when PEGIDA members continued their peaceful march after the demonstrators (who have no legal authority but only the authoritarian left's self righteousness to back them up) demanded that they disperse. For left wing nutters it is only ever a short step from screaming, with faces contorted with anger, vile and hate filled insults to throwing bricks and petrol bombs.

One thing you might have noticed if you’ve followed the short history of Germany’s migrant “miracle” is that citizens’ celebratory mood (characterized initially by the “sweets, toys, and hugs” refugees from Syria received upon arriving in Germany after completing the increasingly arduous Balkan route) has gradually been replaced by a creeping skepticism towards the asylum seekers and towards the “iron chancellor’s” open-door policy for refugees.

Even before the Paris attacks that rocked the EU nations and awoke people to the fact that jihadists are arriving in europe and being welcomed as refugees or asylum seekers, the subsequent bomb scare in Hanover and the shootings in San Bernadion, USA, the tide of public opinion was turning against the hand wringing sentimentality of the leftist 'YTooman rights' brigade.

In Germany people had simply not understood what the sheer numbers of arrivals meant or how such low quality migrants would affect Germany's orderly society until they came face to face with the influx and started to read of rapes and violence committed by newly arrives 'refugees' who though they were coming to bring Europeans Sharia Law, forced marriage, ritual vagina mulitation and the civilized notion that it is OK to rape girls and women who go out without an accompanying male.

There are still large parts of the German electorate, the affluent professional and managerial class emotional cripples who only ever do anything in order to be seen doing it, that support Merkel’s 'open doors' approach, it’s simply to say that reality is beginning to sink in regarding what it means to take in one million people in the space of just six months even when you are a country whose entire population is 81 million. Think then how little Macedonia is faring as a tide of migrants lands on their shores, demanding shelter, food, warmth, free iPads and virgins (yes these cupid stunts are from such backward places they think any post pubescent girl who has not been sold into marriage is fair game.)

Some political groups in Germany have been against the open-door approach from the start. PEGIDA (which stands for Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West), has regained much if not all of the momentum the movement lost earlier this year when it's founder Lutz Bachmann posted a picture of himself dressed as Hitler on Facebook with the caption “He’s Back” (read more about recent PEGIDA rallies here).

On Saturday, we got the latest example of social and political unrest in Germany when an attempt by leftists to disrupt right wing demonstrations turned violent. As RT reports, “about 150 members of different far-right organizations marched through the southern part of Leipzig. They included the neo-Nazi party Die Rechte (the Right), xenophobic organization Offensive für Deutschland (OfD) (Offensive for Germany), and a division of the PEGIDA movement called Thugida.”

Things apparently turned ugly when rabid leftist protestant pastor and youth worker Lothar Konig, 61, showed up with his "loudspeaker van" and began to incite the brainwashed Marxist sheeple to violently break up the PEGIDA protest.

So, as is usually (invariably) the case in the UK it was not 'neo-Nazis' and 'right wing extremists' that started the violence but the loony left who have no logical argument to back up their Leninist dogma and so fall back on the politics of hate. The leftists would argue that any time neo-Nazis stage a march they're bound to cause trouble due simply to the fact that they identify which a movement that's had... how should we put this... a rather checkered history in Germany. This is bollocks of course, when the left's rent a mob start breaking up the peacful protests of organisations like PEGIDA, extremist groups are bound to oppose the left's traditional anti - democracy brutality.

It has now emerged that the majority of people arrested during the 'neo-Nazi' march in Leipzig, Germany on Saturday were left wing counter-demonstrators, who threw rocks and fireworks at police and lit fires in the street.

Around 150 PEGIDA supporters were met by many times more left wing and ‘anti-fascist’ protesters, possibly as many as 1000 who were screaming hate messages at the peaceful protestors. Police deployed around 800 officers to keep the mob away from the peaceful marchers.

An official statement said 69 police and several demonstrators were hurt during the weekend’s disturbances. About 50 police vehicles were also damaged and 23 arrests were made.

Left wing protestors set bins alight in the street in an attempt to blockade the route and stop the right wing march, and the majority of those throwing missiles at police were from the counter-demonstration.

"There are also other violations, but mainly it comes down to this charge,” police spokesperson Ricardo Schulz told Die Welt. “There are a number of proceedings against masked people who were throwing stones. This was an excess of violence."

As usual we see that while those called right-wing extremists, fascists and Nazis behave as civilized human beings should, the infantile thugs and bullies who style themselves 'liberal' or 'the left' behave in ways we associate with Hitler's Brownshirts or Sturmabteilung.

Russian Navy clashes with Turkish vessel impeding drill platform convoy in Black Sea

Russian coast guard ship involved in incident with Turkish vessel

Tensions increase again today in the middle east as once again, a Turkish vessel manoeuvres in a provocative way by obstructing the free movement of Russian ships in the Black Sea. It is now not just reasonable to conclude Turkey's President Erdogan is acting as Obama's proxy in trying to provoke an act of aggression by the Kremlin that would give Washington they excuse they want to start a shooting war with Russia in a final bid to remove the Assad regime in Syria which has stayed in power due to Vladimir Putin propping it up against the attacks of US sponsored Islamic State rebels.

In the second naval incident involving Russian and Turkish vessels in two days, we have received reports that a Russian missile cruiser and coast guard powerboat were ordered to intervene after a merchant vessel flying the Turkish flag blocked a convoy transporting two drill platforms to a new location in Moscow's territorial waters. The decision to relocate the rigs closer to Crimea was caused by the complicated international situation , according to a press release from the Russian Chernomorneftegaz state company which owns the platforms. The current escalation in Turkish belligerence has been caused by Turkey's shooting down of a Russian military aircraft ir retalitation for Russia's outing of President Recep Erdogan and his son Bilal as war criminals profiting hugely from illegal oil trades with the Islamic State terrorists.

While the two rigs were being moved to their new location, a vessel flying the Turkish flag crossed the convoy’s path.

“Acting in violation of regulations for preventing collisions and against the generally-accepted conventions of navigation, the Turkish vessel failed to get out of the way of the convoy. It approached crossways and attempted to stop its course, thus creating potential for a collision,” Chernomorneftegaz said in a statement, stressing that the captain of the Turkish vessel operated radio silence despite requests to respond.

The outbreak of of the incidents involving Russian and Turkish ships is "an overture to the Turkish intention to raise the issue of renegotiating the Montreux Convention [regulating passage of the foreign ships through the Turkish straits of Bosporus and Dardanelles]," Professor Srdja Trifkovich, foreign affairs editor of the Chronicles Magazine, told RT.

Trifkovich explained that the Montreux Convention (signed in 1936) must be renewed every 20 years, so in 2016 the convention will have to be re-signed.

"Obviously, this would be a handy time for the Turks to start raising tension and to start claiming that the number of incidents – for which they, of course, would blame the Russian side – indicates the need to impose some as yet unknown restrictions on the passage of the Russian warships through the straits," Trifkovich said, stressing that in the past similar incidents had occurred but were quite rare.

Trifkovich noted that an escalation in tensions between Russia-Turkey over the straits would be a serious issue major one, given the fact that having right of way through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits from The Black Sea to The Mediterranean has been an imperative of Russian foreign policy since the 18th century.

The strait issue is particularly sensitive now as Russia is conducting a counter-terrorist operation in Syria. The shortest sea route to Syria passes through the Bosporus and Dardanelles.

France: Left and Right Unite In Desperation To Keep Power

France’s Front National (FN), disappointingly but unsurprisingly failed to win a single regional government in French regional elections on Sunday (13 December, 2015) despite being comfortably ahead in the popular vote after last week's first round. Following a smear campaign that branded Front National as right wing extremists and neo - Nazi, and some pretty unsavoury political chicanery between the socialists and conservatives, which made a mockery of french democracy, voters were scared back to traditional parties. The Socialists led by President Francois Hollande (Le petit crapaud) and former President Nociolas Sarkozy (Le petit ver) had ordered their candidates to withdraw from the run off votes and advise supporters to vote for their traditional rivals in orderr to keep FN out of power.

Similar ploys were used by Consrvatives and Labour in the British election to prevent UKIP winning seats where the anti - EU party was doing well, and by Swedens Social Democrats, Christian Democrats and Marxists to stave off an early election that would probably have seen the anti EU Sweden Democrats become the second largest, if not the largest party in Sweden's national assembly.

The leader of the anti-immigration FN, Marine Le Pen, lost out to the centre-right opposition in the northern Nord-Pas-de-Calais Picardie region after the ruling Socialists pulled out of the race before the second round. Her 26-year-old niece Marion Marechal-Le Pen was also defeated by the centre-right grouping after socialist candidates had withdrawn in the southern region that includes the glitzy resorts of the Cote d’Azur, despite dominating the first round last week.

The FN had topped the vote in six of 13 regions on December 6, but once again suffered in the second round of an election as the establishment parties used bullying and scare tactics to win support from many dissastisfied voters who had declined to cast a vote in the first round. With turnout high on Sunday at around 59 percent, the centre-right grouping appeared to have won at least five of the regions.

It is astonishing how widespread this interchangeable political label thing really is. It has worked since 1992 for Labour and Conservative Parties in Britain, though they make different noises when campaigning the policies in government are as different as bean curd and tofu (It is the same in the USA and Australia and I suspect in Germany, Spain, Italy etc.) Everywhere in the developed world the politically correct consensus seems to hold sway in politics, education, public service and the media. And while the elites have not started burning heretics as the medieval church did, people who challenge the dogma can end up in a lot of trouble.

The loss of national sovereignty since joining the EU and handing over power after power to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels through treaties must have contributed to this melting pot between different factions we call politics these days.

It seems as if the sovereign nations of western Europe are being groomed to become nothing but centrally controlled province of the United States Of Europe. It has seemed so for a long time, as if, eventually, the bankers and corporate money only want to deal with 28 oligarchs, a similar to Putin's Russia - the nation EU leaders spend so much time demonizing.

In the end however, French voters may regret their craven desire to cling to the status quo, the politics of failure. The choice between le petit ver (the little worm), Sarkozy and le petit crapaud (the little toad) Hollande is not really any choice at all.

Russian Navy Destroyer "Fires Warning Shots" To Avoid Collision With Turkish Ship

One day dear readers, and we feel that day cannot now be far off, you will log in to learn that it has all kicked off between the real NATO military powers and the Russia / China / Iran bloc in the middle east. This latest skirmush, reported below represents another inch moved towards full scale conflict.

The incident took place in the Aegean Sea, a branch of the Mediterranean between Turkey and The Balkans

A statement from Russia's Defense Ministry read that "the crew of the Russian Navy patrol ship Smetlivy which was located 22 kilometres from the Greek island of Lemnos in the northern part of the Aegean Sea avoided collision with a Turkish purse seine fishing boat. The text of the Russian Defense Ministry's statement read: the crew of the Russian "Smetlivy" destroyer was forced to use firearms on Sunday to prevent a collision with a Turkish purse-seine fishing vessel. Turkey's version of events corresponds with the Russian statement, with Hurriyet reporting that "a Russian warship had to fire warning shots at a Turkish vessel in the Aegean Sea to avoid collision.

The crew of the Kashin-class destroyer Smetlivy sighted a Turkish fishing boat some 1,000 meters from the Russian warship early on Sunday morning, the ministry said. The ship was sailing towards the destroyer and ignored calls for radio contact and other attempts to communicate.

The fishing boat did not get on the air for radio contact with the Russian ship and did not respond to signal lamps or flairs. This in itself is strange, normally a small commercial boat would want to get out of the way of a bigger ship or at least respond to radio alarm calls. Right of way does not count for much when you are in a 400 ton fishing boat (about the average size for this kind of boat area in the) and sailing into the path of a five thousand ton warship.

Upon the Turkish boat's dangerously close approach to "Smetlivy" at a distance of 600 meters, the Russian patrol ship fired a warning shot beyond the effective range of the weapon, to ensure the fisherman avoided collision.

The ministry statement said the Turkish fishing ship changed course after that and shadowed the destroyer at about 550 meters distance, but didn’t contact the Russian warship. Very suspicious behaviour for a commercial fishing vessel.

“Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov has summoned the military attaché of the Turkish embassy in Russia in connection with the incident in the Aegean Sea,” the statement said.

For now there is no official (or unofficial) closure of the Bosphorus to Russian shipping, however as we have reported previously, closing the only route out of The Black Sea to Russian ships is Turkey's trump card, one which however Putin would promptly read as an declaration of war by Erdogan, and as a further reminder, the bloody Russo-Turkish was of 1828 was sparked by nothing less than the closure of the Dardanelles Strait to Russian shipping.

President Trump And Prime Minister Corbyn: Can Voters Stop Them?

Left wing rebel Jeremy Corbyn and right wing buffoon Donald Trump - but do they represent the future of politics or just a morsel of zeitgeist?

Headlines in this morning's newspapers show maverick businessman Donald Trump, thanks to his bombastic style and trade make politically incorrect comments on major issues surging even further ahead in the contest to be Republican nominee in next year's Presidential election. Looking ahead, one foresees Trump's rivals sitting in the back of a car with their campaign managers whining, "If you'd let me talk about how immigration is killing jobs and how Islamic terrorists have sneaked in the country posing as refugees I coulda been a contender."

At the moment Trump seems unstoppable and his success is causing as much panic in the Washington political establishment as the victory of ultra - left wing maverick Jeremy Corbyn in the contest to elect a leader for the Labour Party, currently the main opposition here in Britain.

On the other side of the political fences, the Conservative government are in as much disarray as their opponents, as Prime Minister Cameron vacillates over his promised renegotiation of the therms of Britain's European Union membership but faces a rebellion within his own party if he reneges on certain promises he made to grassroots members. With anti - EU, anti - immigration party UKIP still making headway the Convervatives dilemma, rank and file membership (reflecting public opinion) versus loyalty to the party's corporate sponsors and political allies in Europe.

Meanwhile in the Democrat camp, Washington outsider and ultra - left (by American standards) candidate for the nomination Bernie Sanders continues to poll well and could yet pose a threat to the anointed one Hillary Clinton, a person who claims being married to a former President qualifies her for the job despite having little political experience and an abysmal and scandal stained track record as Secretary Of State in the Obama Administration.

Some commentators are starting to move public opinion by saying only voters can stop Trump or Corbyn. but can we and do we want to. What we are seeing is not a swing to the right or left in traditional politics, but a rejection of mainstream politics. Voters are abandoning the traditional parties in the way traditional politics has abandoned the voters.

It is possible we will see the fix go in, to prevent any upsets. The establishment parties are jealous of the hegemony they have built up over they ears and the 'my turn, your turn' was power id passed back and forth to maintain the illusion of democracy. A good indicator of that will be the French regional elections, the second round of which take place today. The anti - EU, anti - Immigration Front National (FN) won the popular vote in six of France's thirteen regions last week, but as the traditional enemies in French Politics, the Gaullists (conservative) and Socialists are uniting tho block an FN victory, don't be surprised if the outsiders do not go on to govern in any of the regional assemblies.

Democracy is not quite dead, but it is critically ill and on the danger list. Are figures like Trump and Corbyn a symptom of its illness or the cure?

Dishonesty Of Mainstream Media Revealed

 Since Donald Trump, frontrunner in the race to be nominated Rebpublican candidate in the 2016 US Presidental election made some unpolitically-correct comments about stropping followers of Islam entering the USA until a way can be found of identifying the ones who have been radicalised and trained to perpetrate acts of terrorism in the USA, they media have been getting their knickers in a right old twist.

While Trump's polling figures surged mainstream media, carried pushing the idiotic message that only a lunatic fringe of right wing extremists agreed with Trump and everybody else loves foreigners, especially those who intend to kill non - Muslims. Even here in Britain the story most widely promoted was that a comfortable majority of American's not only disagreed with the world combover champion but deplored what he said.

Now however the truth is starting to emerge. The poll by You Gov (not a polling organisation noted for its right wing sympathies as it is run by a supporter of the UK's Labour Party) that spawned the fifty eight per cent story actually showed that fifty eight per cent of Americans agree with Trump and a significant number did not have an opinion.

Quite a majority then are not the Islam loving liberals they lying media have said the majority of Americans are.

Another reason then to turn to alternative media to find out what is really going on. You just can't believe anything politicians say or that you hear on TV and Radio or  read in newspapers.

As YouGov reports, a majority of Americans say that they view Islam unfavorably, and even Democrats are almost twice as likely to view Islam negatively than positively.


"One week ago the United States saw the deadliest terrorist attack it has seen since 9/11, after 14 people were killed in San Bernadino by Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik. In the wake of the attack Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took his most aggressively anti-Muslim stance so far by calling for Muslims to be barred from entry into the United States. Though the United States has millions of Muslims, anti-Muslim sentiment has become increasingly common in public discourse.

YouGov/HuffPost's latest research shows that most Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam. 58% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam, and just over a third (35%) say that they have a 'very unfavorable' opinion of the religion. Only 17% of Americans view it positively. Democrats (27%) are the most likely to have a favorable opinion of Islam, but even they tend to say that they view Islam negatively. Among independents (58%) and Republicans (75%) most people have a negative view of Islam."

Tyler Durden at Zero Hedge suggests Trump's remarks which caused so much consternation in the media and the political estabishment  were part of a cunning plan (Donald Trump as Blackadder? Maybe not.): to get elected president, he will become the only  to talk about the elephant in the room: that Islamic terrorism comes from Islam immigrants.

And Now For Something Completely Different

Blogging here for the past couple of months has been pretty bleak as events in Syria, Turkey andthe middle east have dominated the news. But the season to be jolly is almost upon us and it's time we all had a laugh, well all of us except the guy in this story:

Alligator Eats Florida Burglary Suspect Hiding From Cops

Down in Florida, ABC 13 news reports, police have concluded that a man suspected of burglary and on the run from officers escaped justice in a rather novel way.

Matthew Riggins, 22, alleged to have been responsible for a string of burglaries in Brevard County in November 2015 was spotted with a likely accomplice by police officers on the morning of 13 November, but the crooks escaped on foot and hid in a swamp. Officers who set off in pursuit failed to find them

Police searching the area later reported hearing yelling but were unable to determine the source as night had fallen. Ten days later, human remain, identified by DNA tests as having once been attached to Riggins were found floating in Barefoot Bay lake.

Divers sent to recover the remains encountered an 11-foot alligator which had shreds of human flesh (later proved to be a DNA match with the bits of Riggins the 'gator had not swallowed) behaved aggressively towards them (or perhaps mistook them for the next meal). Florida authorities called sent an Alligator to capture the creature. Official reports say it was shot. Sources with the state police department say it was recruited and given the rank 'Termigator'.

A coroners report concluded Riggins was attacked by the 11-foot gator while hiding from authorities in the 'gator infested lake and recorded a verdict of death by stupidity.

Iran-backed Shi'ite militias threaten Turkey over incursion into Iraq

We reported last week, during our series of posts exposing the involvement of Turkish President Recep Erdogan and other members of his family in illegal oil trades with terror group ISIS and of facilitating the supply of arms and ammunition from the USA, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to ISIS guerilla forces using Turkey as a conduit, that Turkish troops had invaded northern Iraq.

It is not news of course that the Turkey, under the Sunni Muslim Erdogan regime, has been conducting a genocide against Kurdish ethnicity for many years. That the Kurds, up until the recent intervention of Russia, were the most effective force opposing Islamic State. In addition to violating international law by helping fund and arm terrorists, Turkey is then guilty of an incursion into another state's sovereign territory in violation of international law and United Nations treaty and of committing an act of war in shooting down a Russian aircraft that had not violated Turkish air space.

In spite of all that, backed by NATO which seems to intensify its push for war every week, Turkey has kept its troops in Iraqi Kurds territory.

Fed up of Turkey's war crimes and the approval of its NATO allies for these constant violations of international law, Iraqi Shi'ite paramilitary groups with ties to Iran have threatened to use force against Turkey we learned via REUTERS on Wednesday, unless Turkish troops are withdrawn from Iraqi territory. The Turks had previously been given a 48-hour deadline by the government, but that expired without any movement.

Citing kurdish violations of its borders Turkey deployed a contingent of troops to a camp near the frontline in northern Iraq, provoking an outcry in Baghdad, which condemned it as a violation of sovereignty and asked NATO to intervene. Turkey of course is the current leading player in NATO's proxy war against Russia through Russian ally Assdad in Syria.

The area north of Mosul where the Turkish troops are stationed is under the control of Kurdish forces and Shi'ite militias currently have no presence there, which would make it difficult for them to follow through on the threats. However sources close to the Turkish government have leaked information about Erdogan planning to annex a slice of Iraqi territory including the oil region around Mosul.

The situation puts additional pressure on Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, who is already under fire from the same Shi'ite factions over an announcement that the United States will send a new special operations force to conduct raids in Iraq.

Badr Brigade spokesman Karim al-Nuri compared the Turkish incursion to the occupation of Iraq by Islamic State militants and said "all options" were available.

"We have the right to respond and we do not exclude any type of response until the Turks have learned their lesson," Nuri said. "Do they have a dream of restoring Ottoman greatness? This is a great delusion and they will pay dearly because of Turkish arrogance."

Ankara says the troops are there as part of an international mission to train and equip Iraqi forces to fight Islamic State and will not withdraw them, although it said on Tuesday it would send no more. Baghdad says it never invited such a force.

Russia Sends Growler Missile System To Syria and China Unveils Hypersonic Strike Aircraft

In my wanderings around the web today I came across a post questioning why the US military for all its technical superiority did not simply wipe our ISIS and the Russian and Iranian forces in Syria, disposing of Assad in the process.
The website attracts a predominantly conservative audience so responses in the comment thread were full of Gung ho claims about American exceptionalism and the superiority of American trained soldiers(I wonder what the Vietnamese or Afghanistan's Taliban guerillas might have to say about that?). Most however reached the right conclusion for the wrong reasons. The USA does not want to defeat ISIS (correct) The USA could obliterate Russian and Chinese forces supporting Assad. (WRONG!)

As tensions increased in the region after warplanes of NATO member Turkey shot down a Russian SU24 bomber and then anti - Assad rebels supported by the USA destroyed a rescue helicopter sent to find the pilots (one of whom had been machine gunned by rebels while parachuting to safety) The Kremlin ordered its S400 (Growler) Surface to Air missile system, far more advanced that anything the US Army has, to be deployed in areas where US and Russian operations are likely to overlap.

It is already known that Pentagon officials have been shocked by the capabilities of Russia's most advanced aircraft, the SU34 and by the advanced technology used in weaponry of Russian naval vessels now guarding the approaches to Syria's coast. Warnings from US Generals that Russia would obliterate America's forces in any large scale conflict may have been overstated but they were perhaps intended to deflate overconfidence with is typical of the Washington wusses for whom it is easy to be brave as they sit in offices thousands of miles from the combat zones.

Any shooting war would not be as one sided as many American gun nuts think. And that was before China, an ally of Moscow that has promised military support should conflict break out, revealed THIS:

A [Chinsese] advanced aircraft, known as the Wu-14 travels between Mach 5 and Mach 10 which is somewhere in the vicinity of 3500 and 7400 Mph. Sources say the hypersonic vehicle can travel up to 9,000 Mph! This means circling the Earth in 2.5 hours. At this speed, the vehicle can out maneuver any missile system currently active.

If the vehicle was launched from a sub or aircraft carrier in one of the oceans, then a strike to nearly any country would happen in just a couple of minutes.

The WU-14 “threatens to neutralize US strategic missile defenses with the unique capability of flying at ultra-high speeds and maneuvering to avoid detection and tracking by radar and missile defense interceptors.”

Putin Orders Military To "Boost Strategic Nuclear Forces" As Syria Situation Worsens

Earlier it was reported in the news feeds that in response to the escalation in the Syria proxy war, where German warplanes have now arrived to join the bombing campaign against ISIS, thus adding to the list of European nations already infilitrated by Muslim extremists among the millions of illegal immigrants that have flooded into Europe with the tacit approval of EU and national leaders and thus likely to be hit by terrorist attacks similar to those that shocked Paris in November 2015.

We reported yesterday that the US led coalition is planning to put troops from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Muslim nations into Syria in pursuit of Obama's main goal, which is the removal of Assad rather than the eradication of the ISIS terrorist threat. In response Putin issued one simple command: "I order to act extremely tough. Any targets that threaten Russian forces or our infrastructure on the ground should be immediately destroyed."

However, Syria was a secondary topic in Kremlin discussions yesterday when Putin told his his defense chiefs "to strengthen Russia’s strategic nuclear forces amid rising tensions with the U.S. over the global balance of power."

Bloomberg reported that Putin told the assembled military chiefs "new weapons should go to all parts of the nuclear triad of air, sea, and land forces. Action must also be taken to improve the effectiveness of missile-attack warning systems and aerospace defense."

According to Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s military will have five new nuclear regiments equipped with advanced missile complexes next year, adding that more than 95% of the country’s nuclear forces are at a permanent state of readiness".

It is known that around 56 percent of Russian nuclear weapons are new. These include modern missiles, upgraded aircraft and a strengthened submarine capacity, according to Shoigu. Russia has also increased the military’s combat capabilities by reinforcing its western and south-western army groups and building four bases in the Arctic region, he said.

Just in case there was any doubt before, it is now clear that the nuclear arms race and the cold war are not only back, but in this era of "hackers" the probability of an unauthorised launch, is so much higher that last time.

That Putin has chosen to highlight Russia's nuclear strength just days after NATO's most recent European expansion is hardly surprising. However the sabre rattling is not all on the Russian side. Bloomberg noted in the report linked above, "Putin’s moves to reinforce Russian nuclear capabilities are reviving Cold War tensions with the U.S. and its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization".
It is also worth reminding people that as has been widely reported here ans elsewhere, US efforts against ISIS have been less than wholehearted (and another view on this aspect of the bigger story here ), because the terror group has been funded, armed and trained by US allies Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar and is also supported by the USA itself as ISIS offers the best hope of defeating Assad that does not involve US forces in direct confrontation with the Russian military.


The U.S. warned in June that the Kremlin’s "nuclear saber-rattling" is undermining stability in an attempt to intimidate European neighbors." Against that, we have reported here as have many blogs and news websites, and even some mainstream media news publisher, that moves by NATO and the EU, in violation of a 1991 treaty, to suck former Soviet Republics such as Georgia, Lithuania and Ukraine into their western blog organisations were never going to be meekly tolerated by Russia.

And when we get down to that level we have greater understanding of at least some of the reasons why the proxy war in Syria has become a real and present danger to the entire world. And yet some people are still afraid that a little extra Carbon Dioxide in the air is the greatest threat.
